Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to Sarasota, FL

Sales Rep: Scam Artist

The absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with a moving company, and I’ve moved 13 times. Chris K. was my sales representative and he’s a lying scam artist. He insisted that the company was a carrier, not a broker, which is a BIG lie. I provided an exact inventory of the items I needed shipped and he refused to put all items on the list for the estimate because “a few extra boxes wouldn’t make a difference”, but it made a huge difference when the carrier showed up and charged a lot of additional money. He promised the movers would not show up until a specific date, but they showed up 30 minutes after we booked and we were not ready and also have a newborn baby and had no time to prepare.. then we were charged extra for not being ready. He told us not to pack our TVs or else their insurance wouldn’t cover it and they’d pack for free, but when movers showed up we were charged $250 per TV!! We originally had 2 stops, so we paid $200 extra, but when we changed to 1 stop he refused to give a refund. I was told I wouldn’t be nickeled and dimes anymore because he had quoted me the highest rate possible.. but that was a lie. Of course every time I tried to call after the sale was made, Chris would never answer the phone. He finally answered a week later when I called from a new number!! When I told him what was happening he cussed me out and said I’m a waste of his time and I got a “deal of a lifetime”. I shipped 28 boxes (mostly small), 1 bed, 2 dressers, and a few very small misc items and paid $9000!!!! Deal of a lifetime!? SCAM!!! I would give 0 stars if I could. He’s a true scam artist who will do or say anything to get some money.

Long-distance move from Londonderry, NH to McKinney, TX

Do not do business with this company

I am a real customer. My wife and I signed up with this company to do our move from NH to TX recently. There was a lot of pressure up front to sign the contract and to put a deposit down. The person that signed us up was Jordan M. The total contract amount we signed for was $11,450. The first deposit that we had to do right away to secure the contract was $2773.78. Then we were contacted by the quality check team to go over all of our belongings that were going to be moved. Michael from the quality team was very good to talk with. My wife was very meticulous with our belongings and made sure that everything was on the packing list. We then had to make another deposit of $1205 to schedule a moving truck to come to our house. Our moving truck was scheduled for 6/25/21 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.. The driver was supposed to call us on 6/24/21 but they never called. So we called the driver on 6/25/21 in the morning time to confirm their arrival. The driver told us that they were on the way to our house from New Jersey and that they would arrive by 130 p.m. which was already 1.5 hours behind schedule. At 130 p.m. they were not at our house, we called the driver again and they said that they were 30 minutes away. Nobody showed up 30 minutes later. At 230 p.m. we called the driver again and our call was not answered. We called every 15 minutes and nobody answered. Finally they arrived at 530 p.m. 9 hours late. They started to move our belongings into our driveway. Then after looking at our belongings they showed us a contract where it stated that it would cost $30,000 dollars to move our belongings. At this point it was after customer service hours and we had to be out of our house that night which the movers knew. They tried to do a bait and switch on us. This is fraud. The movers tried to tell us that our belongings were much more than originally quoted. Not true, we had everything on our packing slip. The movers also tried to tell us that our space would take up 3000 cubic feet, which also wasn't true. We had 2000 cubic feet.. At this point we did not want to pay $30,000, which the movers tried to make us pay with a credit card right away, even though we were told we would pay by check. The original contract was for $11,450, we had given a $4000 deposit already, then the movers wanted another $30,000 making the total $34,000. Absolute bait and switch, fraudulent scheme this company did on us. We did not want to pay that much money, so the movers threw our stuff back in my garage and took off. We then had to find a storage facility nearby, move all of our belongings on our own because we had to be out of the house that day. We ended up finding a better moving company that was much nicer, did not need a deposit up front, and much cheaper. Do not do business with this company. They refuse to give back our deposit of $4,000 because I refused service with their movers. What I really refused was getting ripped off from a bait and switch fraudulent scheme. This company did not provide services rendered, they are set up to steal from you.

BAD BUSINESS -- Double Price at Pick-up

Scammers and Liars just trying to make sales!!!

Matt, an American representative quoted me $2,114 to move a small one-bedroom apartment and a Kayak. That price did not cover all of the items that I discussed with him in my initial conversation. The price he quoted wouldn't even cover a studio apartment according to the actual movers that arrived yesterday (July 2, 2021). The price I ended up paying without the movers taking my bed, bedframe, the Kayak, and other items ended up being $3,591. If everything was actually moved the total price would have been $4,663. How was Matt so off? I will tell you why he was off, he was trying to make a sale. I literally went in each room while on the phone with him and told him the box sizes and numbers. Total scam!

Matt and I discussed his pricing based on weight. Guess What? Movers DO NOT work off weight. Matt's quote was equivalent to 300 cubic ft. which doesn't even cover a studio apartment. Additionally, as I stated above, I wanted to move a Kayak, which I discussed with Matt. Guess What? There is an extra $200 fee to move that type of item. To add to the inaccurate cost estimate, there is also some sort of truck sizing fee or whatever they call it, which is an additional $300 just for the type of truck that they arrived in. This is absolute BAD BUSINESS. American totally scammed me.

Long-distance move from Tucson, AZ to Columbus, OH

Do Not Do Business

I have been in contact with them for 3 weeks about a matter that has taken place months ago. The mover was supposed to be picking up my move but never showed. I called, texted, and had a friend do the same. No response to either attempts made from both of us. Now during those three weeks, I’m getting “we will look into this” still nothing is going on. I keep getting placed on hold for extended periods of time while they are “making phone calls” and just waiting.

I would highly recommend using someone else for this.

Stop! Do not believe anything they tell you.

First they never tell you that they are a moving broker, not an actual moving company. They require a deposit that doubles after a second review by their “QA”department after you have signed a “ contract”. They don’t return calls. They don’t confirm with moving company for dates leaving you hanging with no idea of what date you can expect to move. I was told my initial quote was so low because they had a truck delivering to my area and they needed to fill the truck to go to their home state. Thenestimate doubled! When I asked about the truck needing to be filled, the current agent almost laughed about such statement. If you have questions, you are hung up on or given a call back number that goes directly to voice mail. It is a scam! When several dates for moving came and went with no shows or calls, my kids rescued me and we hired a truck and moved ourselves. At no time did I cancel a date, yet no return of deposit because of “No cancellation” policy.

Long-distance move from West Jordan, UT to Myrtle Beach, SC

A $4200.00 mistake

Was pressured to sign a contract that day for $7700.00 on July 11, 2021. They called me about a week before my pick up date of 7/27 and told me I would have to pay again since they did not consider 2 beds a headboard footboard and only considered it to be a frame so my price was jacked up for the first time to $8800.00. The moving company did not show or call for the first pick up date and they rescheduled for a second pick up date and called me to tell me I need to pay another $750.00 which now increased my price to $9400.00 for the third time due to the time of year the move was, like they did not know this when I signed the contract on 7/11 and they told me it was their busy season. My move was sched for the third time for and when the installer arrived to pick up he called me and advised me that he wanted $16.000.00 to do the move. When I asked why and tried to get an answer, he advised me it was because of a curio cabinet and I advised the mover that was included in the contents on the original order dated 7/11. When I expressed my concern over the price doubling and the broker did not advise me of this the truck driver of the company hung up and left the home where my contents are without saying anything to my daughter that lives there. After contacting American Moving and storage for 2 days (they kept putting me off saying I would be called back with a pick up date, I finally got to spk with a manager Jordan who told me he can’t talk to me he has a meeting with his daughters university and put me on the phone with Melanie who adv me that if I can’t pay the $16,000. They can’t do the move.

American Long Distance Moving and Storage, a Broker

USA Logistics, Movers

Broker provided a reasonable quote, only accepted bank account for payment, no credit cards; upon providing detailed inventory, price went up $3900. Pickup Movers arrived (5 people), reviewed paperwork, and obtained signatures. They could not guarantee a delivery date. Movers used additional packing materials and labor that added to the cost. Movers placed all property in the street without loading anything into the truck. Notified us that we now owed additional $4600. Choice of leaving, with property in the street, or cutting the load down and leaving the rest in the street. After several calls to dispatch and 20 days later, the truck arrived. Delivery Movers, one driver and one mover arrived, and they could not get additional help, except 1 additional person at the end. We learned our property had been moved from truck-to-truck en route and was now poorly packed in the delivery truck. We had some damage visible and missing items, but no time to report the issue since the driver had to leave to get another load off the truck by 6 pm that day.

Overall Experience was uncertainty, loss of sleep believing we were scammed, not sure if we would ever see our property after reviewing horror stories of property never arriving, additional charges, etc. Final delivery movers understaffed. Recommend getting multiple estimates, avoid going through a broker. Read the fine print and ask questions and clarify every cost in advance. Beware: all parties were personable and friendly.

Long-distance move from Ramah, CO to Dale, IN

I would hire them again in a heartbeat!

When I look back on every move I've done compared to this one, I think, "where has this company been all my life." The made a full house (and then truck) move the easiest experience. They were efficient but careful with all our belongings. Plus they were a fun group to spend the morning with which is nice during a move. I can't say enough good things. I would hire them again in a heartbeat!

Avoid this company at all cost! Hidden Costs!!!

Movers were a day late, asked for another $4800 and left us stranded on the day we had flight booked! Our move was scheduled for today. The contractors flat out asked for another $4800 in addition to total of $3600 that American Long Distance Moving told us. Emails goes unanswered. Calls have a very long wait. Online chat teams close the chat in middle because they have no answers. Contractors could not get hold of their counterpart at this company. We have flights booked for later today and have left with no options. Still no help and waiting to hear back from them!
