Long-distance move from San Francisco, CA to West Palm Beach, FL

CON JOB

This is a con. I paid them up front and have been stuck in my apartment waiting for them for a pick to pick up my things. Every day I call and they lie and give me a fake pick up date. Also, they refuse to provide a Certificate of Insurance because they obviously don't have one. At this point I'm going to have to rent a U-Haul and move myself. They refuse to refund my money. NIGHTMARE.

Complete Scam

American long distance moving and storage is a scam operation. The five star reviews you see here and on other review sites are laughably fake - all customers of this company leave with emptier pockets and no services rendered. The only communication the company is on top of is collecting your $1000 non refundable deposit. Our move was scheduled for a period of two days with a hard deadline. Over the two days we made more than five calls to get an update on status, but NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT OR EMPLOYEE COULD COMMENT ON A DATE OR TIME FOR WHEN MOVERS WOULD ARRIVE. When we requested our deposit back, they quickly referred to the fact that our contract says they can’t guarantee the move dates they promise. In summary - American Long Distance Moving and Storage takes 1000 dollars to force you to use their moving services which they will render when/if it is convenient for them. This company is an absolute disappointment and conduct themselves in a way that is completely embarrassing and immoral. No customer deserves this.

I chose American long distance moving for two reasons

I chose American long distance moving for two reasons. I was referred to them by friends but that was after I researched them online and made some phone calls and I liked the person at the other end of the phone, Hope. She was very helpful. I had two people come to my house. I liked her and the gentleman that came and then I found out that two people I knew used them and that was it.

Long-distance move from Prospect, KY to El Paso, TX

Poor communication and logistics

My current acct is Reference No: A4357922,

I am nothing short of very dissatisfied with my overall experience with your move. Since 1980 between my 21 years in the Navy and 20 years with my current employer I’ve either relocated or moved long distance over 30 times. While that is no exaggeration the point that I am making is that this company communicates very poorly with its clients, especially when are not able to even come close to meeting their expected deadlines for pickup. I was supposed to have been picked up between the 18th & 19th of this month, not only did the dispatch office fail to initially contact me until late on the 17th I had to make several calls on the 18th to be told that my pickup was going to occur on the 19th. Then after settling into my secondary date schedule I was told at 1 pm on the 18th that my mover was going to contact me. Not les than 2 hours later I get a call from a mover in GA who says now that it’s going to be sometime around the 20th. I called your company to only find out that I’m the one informing you of the alteration in my schedule and that despite there be no reason given you cannot do anything to even compensate or late alone advocate for me. This is a part of two moves and I discussed with your rep Nic how important my timeline was and accepted a two day window, but now with a72 hour window my schedule has been significantly complicated. I am going to have to expect that I’m on my own and it’s my fault for using your company.

Long-distance move from Oak Harbor, WA to Richmond, VA

“OH SHUCKS”

This company doesn’t keep their “promises”. I first contacted this company for a quote for a move from oak harbor WA to VA as we are a military family. Happy go lucky Robert said, hey we will be in the city around the time of your moving date I can provide you a discount since we will be going from oak harbor WA to Richmond VA. Which was great! I was concerned a bit as it seemed to good to be true. He assured me they would take “good care of us” and that this was a good deal he was providing us. He kept me on the phone for the whole processes as he said if we disconnect the discount will not be valid or date cannot be saved which I get. So I provided them with my bank information and signed the contract. I signed the contract !!! Only for me to call back 7 days wondering why the down payment funds were not taken out. First the lady on the phone was beyond rude when she notified me they will not be moving my family because they do not come out to this area. Which is hilarious because I see there trucks here all the time and again Robert said “we will be in your area”. Second, she changed it up and said well the dispatcher said he can’t do your move. I contacted the dispatcher and his response...”oh shucks”. I got NO notification that they couldn’t do this move...NOONE called me. Cowards. Unprofessional!!!! I had a feeling this was a scam and sure enough I was right. Trust your gut ! ✌️ glad I was able to find another reliable moving company for cheaper than what they offered me. Oh shucks American long distance maybe you will DO BETTER next time!

Poor customer service and communication

Zero stars.

Long-distance move from Oak Park, IL to Benicia, CA

Move from IL to CA

DO NOT use this company! I'm not sure why others have given them such high ratings! I did not have a lot of things to move and thought sharing a truck would be a quick, economical way to move my things. Boy, was I wrong! DON'T trust this company! These are the lies they told me: 1) We will move your stuff; we will not contract it out to anothercompany. 2) We will call 48hrs in advance for pick up (I got 45 minutes), 3) 1 flight of stairs is included in price (more than 7 stairs = $75), 4) Your move will cost this much for a certain amt of boxes & furniture (I used less boxes & furniture & less square feet, but had to pay more because "it's not just square feet, but the shape of the items". I only had boxes & my mattresses!), 5) We accept this type of payment. This changed depending on the person to whom I was speaking. 6) We will deliver your things in 5-7 days. The contract says up to 21 business days, but that is only for inclement weather. You'll have your things well before that time. I was told this on the phone & in person.

I only saved about $100 with this company. It is nearly impossible to get in touch with them or the actual moving company who has my things. It was not worth the hassle!

If you use this company, only have them move things you won't need for at least a month. Also, expect poor communication and a lot of lies.

Long-distance move from Denver, CO to Augusta, GA

Read this before booking. Mover Beware.

This company is truly horrific and I strongly suggest anyone looking to use them, don't.

This is a transactional company. They don't move your stuff for you, they hire a carrier to do it. If you go look for carriers yourself, you'll save money and get better service along the way.

AmericanLongDistancemoving WILL give you a purposely low false estimate to begin with. I was told my move would cost about $3500. This includes a large binding estimate fee, then they have a QA individual call you later, and adjust it to a higher cost, claiming the original estimate was off based on your stuff. At this point, the binding estimate fee climbs for having to 're-estimate.' I informed the Quality Assurance individual (Tyler) that I knew he was still way too low concerning the amount of space our stuff would take up. The original estimate had us at 500 cuft. He put us at 612 cuft.

I told him I had a 10x20 storage I thought was nearly 50-60% full (1000-1200 cuft). He assured me I was overestimating and that he gave me extra space and we would be fine. The new coat was $4600. An increase of $1100, 33% cost increase for 20% increase in space. I bumped it to 750. The cost changed to $4900, Making it a 50% space increase for a 40% coat increase. The major change in cost came from the binding estimate change, or, a fee for speaking with QA. I was still skeptical about the space being taken. At this point, I had to put an additional $600 down on top of the $1200 I put down on the initial estimate.

The carriers couldn't move my stuff prior to my move date, despite me calling and informing Long Distance multiple times that I would be out of state after a specific date. I had to cancel my trip and change my entire itinerary to make it work.

The second the movers showed up they went, "it's like 1400 cuft of stuff." My bill went to $8,879. I had to now put down $4500, with the rest to be payed at delivery. There was also a 5% credit card transaction fee that I was never made aware of, for a fee I NEVER could have prepared for in advance.

Estimated at $3,500.

Delivered at $8,878.

Terrible customer service, hidden fees, unable to handle dates, no preparation, pushed around and tossed back and forth, and spent numerous hours on hold.

Save yourself the hassle, book direct with a carrier.

Long-distance move from Pittsburgh, PA to Chestnut Hill, MA

Mover's Nightmare

Total scam business-never came-almost 3 weeks later and still no word-actually removed our contract from their files so no longer retrievable; It's like they just erased our presence; please save yourself the grief

Look them up on Facebook, mymovingreviews.com, Trust pilot- many bad reviews -why take the chance-they are a complete fraud

Look at all of their reviews on google -almost all have only 1 review and over 30 within last 3 weeks-very suspicious -since we placed our first bad review the "good reviews" jumped from 50 total to 80+ in 2 weeks. Our review is totally legit-email me if you like.

First Nick promised pickup would be on time then we were unable to contact him again. Then Tyler Hanson contacted us to tell us we owed them another $471.17 on top of initial deposit of $876.00 because it appeared that my son had more than originally calculated -since they already had my deposit I had no choice -actually they estimated 20 boxes but he had 4. He'd didn't have that much stuff.

We contacted them multiple times a day-were constantly told that they were about to contact the dispatcher but nothing ever materialized.

They knew from first conversation that my son was pressed for time and assured us no problem.

5/15/21-day of move-told repeatedly they would call us shortly-no show

5/16/21-told they were coming-no show despite assurances

for each of the following "pickup dates" we had to pay someone to wait for them as my son had to leave for his new job.

5/17/21-definitely coming today-no show

5/19/21-Joe told us arriving between 6pm- 8pm- no show

5/20/21-Told again arriving between 6pm-8pm-no show

5/21/21-Joe again promised arrival between 5pm-8pm- no show

5/22/21-told movers backed out of job-only informed us after we called multiple times; after more calls told us that they can not contact dispatcher as they are not available over the weekends

we stopped calling as we got nowhere with them-told-they repeated the same old lines as if rehearsed just to get us off the phone-don't give them any money- they insisted on bank wire transfers -very suspicious- we should have known that something was not right

As of June 2 we have never heard from this company again- It's been over 10 days with no word from them

they never did the job-but they kept the money

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. SCAM....

Quoted me at one price and when the movers showed up it was more than double(almost triple) by the actual moving company. Had no choice since I was flying out and starting a new job. Called customer service the next day and their answer was "There is nothing we can do because you signed the bill of lading". If you are going to do a long distance move do yourself a favor and steer clear of this company.

I would recommend American long distance moving.

The rep from American long distance moving who assisted me was very helpful. She called back and checked on me ‘because we were building a house, so the date was kind of like up in the air. And she was more than willing to check back in it with me to make sure that I didn’t forget and that I knew that she was available. She sent me everything I needed to know about the pricing too. The moving crew was great as well. It was hot and they were more than willing during the move. I felt bad. I was like, “Oh, I’m sorry. That goes upstairs.” They were like, “Okay.” They were really helpful. Everything was great. I would recommend American long distance moving.

Never never use this company

We have had a contract for a long time. The moving date has come and go multiple times. They actually even asked us to push back personally moving which is not possible. We have called to get it handled and we’re told someone would be there tomorrow only to again have no one show up and no communication. Then because it was now June they charged us more for the summer rate even though it was there fault it is taking so long. A women from customer service bragged how they are a multi million dollar company so they would be okay if we sued them but would not give us a refund. At this point they will be getting a large lawsuit including the other costs I have incurred like storage. I am at the point of flying to the office.

My realtor knows the owner of American long distance moving in Florida. This company only had to move me for a mile as I live around the corner. They wrapped everything well and took care of everything extremely well. Nobody can do better. The service was great and I'm going to call them again when I'm ready to move out of the house. Overall, we were pleased

The biggest positive thing was that they guarantee about three men but they sent four so that made the move a lot faster. It took a total of four hours to do the transfer which was admirable. It included time on the parkway but not the unpacking of the contents. There was one thing that was cracked but it was not a big deal. Overall, we were pleased

It was a very positive experience.

We planned for them to take the whole day to take care of stuff, but they had it done easily in half a day. They had it all unpacked and put away in our storage bins in about two and a half hours. We then hired them to move our stuff from our storage area into our new house about five months later. Everything was handled and I never had any problems. It was a very positive experience.

I signed my contract over a month ago. I have spoken with them a lot and even yesterday. Today they told me that they need to push my move. I have zero place to go. I cannot stay in my current state. I have to now hire new movers in two days and not get my deposit back. I am leaving a very abusive situation and have no way to just push my move. The lady was so rude and pretty much told me good luck. So thanks for taking food from my children and having us have two days to find a way to move across the country. They will try and say this is a Paid review and I promise you that it is not. This place is just screwing over people and no remorse.

Long-distance move from Closter, NJ to Covina, CA

Bait and SWITCH method

Bill of Lading Number (Job #): A4362401 Pickup Date: 6/27/2021 Delivery Date:

Incident Description

This customer was scheduled to move 6/27/2021. This customer also has reviewed all packages and items on the itinerary and there were no changes since talking to the representative. The representative had informed this customer that she can increase amount of boxes to 45 boxes as this customer had decided to NOT to take the bed bunk, one computer desk, dining table and vanity. On 6/27/2021 the movers did not show up and promised to show up the next day, then it was again re-scheduled for the following day, then the following day. The movers showed up 6/30/2021 in the late afternoon and immediately demanded to sign a "new" contract. This customer informed them that the belongings were exactly as in the itinerary and estimate and informed the driver that four furnitures were also removed from the estimate. This customer stated that per contract, this customer needs to contact American Long Distance moving and storage prior to any changes to the contract. The movers got upset and left the property. This customer contacted them immediately and pleaded not to leave as this customer had to vacate the home by next day. The movers were aware of this dire need of this customer. Despite calling the movers, the movers refused to return and did not answer phone. This customer immediately contacting American Long Distance and moving and informed them that the movers just left. The broker at American Disctance and moving claimed that this customer refused services and therefore customer is not entitled to any refund of deposit. This customer explained that she did not refuse services as she had to move out the next day. This customer determined that the brokers and movers are using bait and switch method to wait until last minute to change the contract and increase the estimated price by three times despite the customer not changing any amount of the itinerary, even removing some items in the itineary. This customer requested another moving company to come but the broker stated that it may take "days" or "weeks". The brokers refused to provide any refund to the deposit despite the movers breaching contract and leaving property. The brokers claim that customer refused services, but this is not true as this customer had no options but to move next day as new tenants were moving in. The brokers and movers left this customer with all her belongings and this customer had no options but to contact another moving company. This customer is requesting the deposit of $1126.67 back as the movers breached contract by leaving property without giving a change of customer to contact American Long Distance to consult about the "new contract" the movers asked this customer to sign. This customer is complaining about the bait and switch method this company is using to lure customers to an "estimate" which is much less than what the actual movers are quoting. This is an unethical practice. I am kindly asking NCCDB to address this complaint as this company is taking advantage of individuals who are at already high stress due to the move. Please note that this same scenario has happened to numerous people and complaints were filed via BBB and trustpilot. This type of unethical practice needs to STOP. Thank you.

Long-distance move from Columbus, OH to Stamford, CT

DO NOT USE - TOTAL SCAM

This was hands down the worst experience I've ever had with a mover, and I have moved 10 times in the past 15 years. Rob K. was my sales rep. He was a fast-talking, "all the right answers" kind of sales guy. I was calling in early Jun '21 for a mid-Aug '21 move from OH to CT. Upon calling ALD and speaking with Rob, he gave me his "unbelievable opportunity pitch," which was that they just somehow happened to have an empty truck that was scheduled to come back from OH to CT. Since it was going to be empty, he could do the job for $7900 (4 BR house). Keep in mind the only other quote I'd received up until then was $17k. His pick-up & drop-off windows were both +/-3 days, but he assured me that this was how the entire industry worked. Upon signing I had to make a 50% down payment.

About 2 weeks later we were interested in adding packing services. I called ALD to request a quote and see if this could be added. The first person literally couldn't answer any of my questions. She said, "The carrier will contact you 4-7 days prior to the move and you can schedule then." I asked how I was supposed to plan for a 4BR, OH>CT move 4 days in advance without knowing for certain if I or the movers would be packing? I then called back and got a few more, yet still vague, details, but was again ultimately told she couldn't be sure of the price and/or availability, as that was "up to the carrier." I then texted "Rob the sales guy" (we had texted a few times and he was very responsive during the sale process). After 3 days and 2 texts from me, without any response, I found his direct phone ext. and called him. I explained what we were looking for and he again had "all the right answers." He explained, "You have nothing to worry about. Your move is over a month away. The carrier will call you 4-7 days prior to your move." To which, I replied the same as before, "How can I make plans, with 4 children, etc., for a 4BR cross-country move, 4-7 days pre-move?" Rob then quickly, without missing a beat, switched the conversation by again reiterating the theme that, "The entire industry is having trouble finding trucks. There are more people moving than there are trucks..." I interrupted his speech by saying, "This has nothing to do with any truck logistics. I'm just looking for a price quote, and to confirm the availability of packing services for our move." Finally, Rob said, "I'll check into this and get back to you before the end of the day...I promise." He never called back.

After all of this hassle, and still no answers, I began to get nervous. I called ALD and informed them I wished to cancel my move. Keep in mind this was still 6 weeks before our scheduled move date. The operator informed me that the 50% down payment was nonrefundable. I went back and forth with this person for 10 minutes, but no progress. I asked to speak with a manager and was put on hold for 25mins. Finally, the manager came on the phone. He was the worst of the bunch. He was short, rude and unapologetic throughout the entire conversation. He was very condescending and would continue his pitch, "Oh, so you aren't looking to move now? Ok, we can give you a credit on your account that can be used any time over the next 12 months." I said, "I'm not going to be moving with you any time over the next 12 months." This circle went on for several minutes and he continued to keep the company line. I finally said, "Rob the sales guy continually talked about how booked up the entire moving industry is, and my move isn't for another 6 weeks. You'll likely have no problem finding another move to "replace" mine in your schedule. So, you're not going to be "out" anything, yet I'm out $3k...for services you didn't provide." Again, he kept with the company line of, "The down payment is nonrefundable, but I can give you a 12-month credit on your account." Finally, after exasperation (which was clearly his plan), I gave up and ended the conversation. I’ve since called several other van lines, all of which were able to at least guarantee a 1-day pick-up date, rather than ALD's 3-day window, and none had ANY down payment requirements (compared to ALD’s 50% nonrefundable). Also, they were much more professional in that they actually sent someone to our home to take an inventory and give us several quotes with various options. Given my experiences, and hearing some others’, I have little doubt the move, had we continued on with ALD, would have been a nightmare. The entire experience with them was slimy, unprofessional, high pressure, zero customer service and just plain poor.

AVOID AT ALL COST

This has been the worst experience that I have ever had with movers. I called to set up my move a move nearly a month in advance. First person that I spoke to Robert R. told me that my exact date June 29th would be okay for pickup. They gave me a window to July 4th. I have yet to get any information about my move. I literally had to call everyday and still never have received information. They are rude on top of that. Everyone claims to be a supervisor, yet none of them can tell you anything. It is now past the time I’m which they claimed that my items would be picked up for my move and their response is to wait everyday until the movers decide to show up. I truly believe that they are a scam that only wants deposits that they refuse to give back. They don’t care about your move every happening. DO NOT choose this “company” and don’t believe their responses to negative reviews and being fake. If they truly cared they would reach out, but instead they want to scam people into thinking that all negative reviews are fake. This one definitely isn’t, I have the first and last names of all those that I have spoken with as well as all paperwork. I keep a record of everything. Angela also likes to hang up on people. They are an absolute scam!!!!

Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to Sarasota, FL

Sales Rep: Scam Artist

The absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with a moving company, and I’ve moved 13 times. Chris K. was my sales representative and he’s a lying scam artist. He insisted that the company was a carrier, not a broker, which is a BIG lie. I provided an exact inventory of the items I needed shipped and he refused to put all items on the list for the estimate because “a few extra boxes wouldn’t make a difference”, but it made a huge difference when the carrier showed up and charged a lot of additional money. He promised the movers would not show up until a specific date, but they showed up 30 minutes after we booked and we were not ready and also have a newborn baby and had no time to prepare.. then we were charged extra for not being ready. He told us not to pack our TVs or else their insurance wouldn’t cover it and they’d pack for free, but when movers showed up we were charged $250 per TV!! We originally had 2 stops, so we paid $200 extra, but when we changed to 1 stop he refused to give a refund. I was told I wouldn’t be nickeled and dimes anymore because he had quoted me the highest rate possible.. but that was a lie. Of course every time I tried to call after the sale was made, Chris would never answer the phone. He finally answered a week later when I called from a new number!! When I told him what was happening he cussed me out and said I’m a waste of his time and I got a “deal of a lifetime”. I shipped 28 boxes (mostly small), 1 bed, 2 dressers, and a few very small misc items and paid $9000!!!! Deal of a lifetime!? SCAM!!! I would give 0 stars if I could. He’s a true scam artist who will do or say anything to get some money.

Long-distance move from Londonderry, NH to McKinney, TX

Do not do business with this company

I am a real customer. My wife and I signed up with this company to do our move from NH to TX recently. There was a lot of pressure up front to sign the contract and to put a deposit down. The person that signed us up was Jordan M. The total contract amount we signed for was $11,450. The first deposit that we had to do right away to secure the contract was $2773.78. Then we were contacted by the quality check team to go over all of our belongings that were going to be moved. Michael from the quality team was very good to talk with. My wife was very meticulous with our belongings and made sure that everything was on the packing list. We then had to make another deposit of $1205 to schedule a moving truck to come to our house. Our moving truck was scheduled for 6/25/21 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.. The driver was supposed to call us on 6/24/21 but they never called. So we called the driver on 6/25/21 in the morning time to confirm their arrival. The driver told us that they were on the way to our house from New Jersey and that they would arrive by 130 p.m. which was already 1.5 hours behind schedule. At 130 p.m. they were not at our house, we called the driver again and they said that they were 30 minutes away. Nobody showed up 30 minutes later. At 230 p.m. we called the driver again and our call was not answered. We called every 15 minutes and nobody answered. Finally they arrived at 530 p.m. 9 hours late. They started to move our belongings into our driveway. Then after looking at our belongings they showed us a contract where it stated that it would cost $30,000 dollars to move our belongings. At this point it was after customer service hours and we had to be out of our house that night which the movers knew. They tried to do a bait and switch on us. This is fraud. The movers tried to tell us that our belongings were much more than originally quoted. Not true, we had everything on our packing slip. The movers also tried to tell us that our space would take up 3000 cubic feet, which also wasn't true. We had 2000 cubic feet.. At this point we did not want to pay $30,000, which the movers tried to make us pay with a credit card right away, even though we were told we would pay by check. The original contract was for $11,450, we had given a $4000 deposit already, then the movers wanted another $30,000 making the total $34,000. Absolute bait and switch, fraudulent scheme this company did on us. We did not want to pay that much money, so the movers threw our stuff back in my garage and took off. We then had to find a storage facility nearby, move all of our belongings on our own because we had to be out of the house that day. We ended up finding a better moving company that was much nicer, did not need a deposit up front, and much cheaper. Do not do business with this company. They refuse to give back our deposit of $4,000 because I refused service with their movers. What I really refused was getting ripped off from a bait and switch fraudulent scheme. This company did not provide services rendered, they are set up to steal from you.

BAD BUSINESS -- Double Price at Pick-up

Scammers and Liars just trying to make sales!!!

Matt, an American representative quoted me $2,114 to move a small one-bedroom apartment and a Kayak. That price did not cover all of the items that I discussed with him in my initial conversation. The price he quoted wouldn't even cover a studio apartment according to the actual movers that arrived yesterday (July 2, 2021). The price I ended up paying without the movers taking my bed, bedframe, the Kayak, and other items ended up being $3,591. If everything was actually moved the total price would have been $4,663. How was Matt so off? I will tell you why he was off, he was trying to make a sale. I literally went in each room while on the phone with him and told him the box sizes and numbers. Total scam!

Matt and I discussed his pricing based on weight. Guess What? Movers DO NOT work off weight. Matt's quote was equivalent to 300 cubic ft. which doesn't even cover a studio apartment. Additionally, as I stated above, I wanted to move a Kayak, which I discussed with Matt. Guess What? There is an extra $200 fee to move that type of item. To add to the inaccurate cost estimate, there is also some sort of truck sizing fee or whatever they call it, which is an additional $300 just for the type of truck that they arrived in. This is absolute BAD BUSINESS. American totally scammed me.

Long-distance move from Tucson, AZ to Columbus, OH

Do Not Do Business

I have been in contact with them for 3 weeks about a matter that has taken place months ago. The mover was supposed to be picking up my move but never showed. I called, texted, and had a friend do the same. No response to either attempts made from both of us. Now during those three weeks, I’m getting “we will look into this” still nothing is going on. I keep getting placed on hold for extended periods of time while they are “making phone calls” and just waiting.

I would highly recommend using someone else for this.
