Long-distance move from Bloomingdale, NJ to Cleveland, OH

Smooth move thanks to this crew.

We had to move my elderly aunt from Jersey to Ohio. I was super worried about this as she has a bunch of prized possessions that are highly breakable. The team at Superior Moving Systems was super attentive. They made sure everything was packaged well. All her breakable personal effects made it to Ohio all in one piece. The team was punctual. I didn't have to wait for them to show up. They were kind and efficient. They introduced themselves to my aunt and made her feel comfortable with them taking her belongings to her new home. I was also impressed they didn't try to upsell us on anything we did not need. The process was super speedy and could not have gone better. Kudos to the Superior Moving Systems team.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Florida

Delayed, Damaged, Destroyed goods.

It took seven weeks to finally get our things from this horrible company. Please read the one star reviews on this website and beware.

My experience started out on May 30th, when I talked to Jake, who told me everything I wanted to hear. Unfortunately none of it was true. He told me that they would pack my things. When my contract came through, this service was not included, so I called him back. He said yes, it was in the notes that they would be packing my things. He said there would be four guys who would pack it all up very quickly. He also told me that they would pick up on Monday, June 19th and deliver to my home in Florida by that Thursday or Friday, the 23rd at the latest. I booked a flight to Florida for June 20th. If you get Jake, beware..he will be at your service until he gets your deposit. After that you are on your own, even though he will give you his cell number. Jake also told me that they don't use subcontractors. The company owner just bought additional trucks to add to the fleet. Not true. Both the pickup and delivery were by subcontractors.

June 19th came and I had no idea when they would be picking up my things. I started calling at 9am. No answer in customer service. And believe me when I say that you can leave all of the messages and emails you want, none will ever be returned or replied to. I finally was able to talk to someone in customer service, who told me my truck was currently in Indiana (I was in Ohio) and it was taking longer than they had scheduled to pack up a home that had more things than they stated. They were trying to find another driver to pick up my load. I was told it would be afternoon between 3 and 5:00. I told numerous people that I had a flight the next day and was assured if the driver didn't get there that evening it would be the next morning. Of course the driver didn't get there in the evening. I did receive a call from a lady saying that he would be there between 8 and 10am the next morning. He was in Cleveland and was going to call me really early in the morning, so I was told to have my cell phone with me so I didn't miss his call. Of course there was no call or pick up. I had to spend $200 to change my flight when nobody had shown up by noon. This ridiculous scenario went on for three days. Finally, at 9:30pm on Wednesday night, 2 1/2 hours before my contracted time was up, the driver showed up. He went over my things very quickly and upcharged me $750. My husband had added some things, so I figured it would be more, but not that much more. Thankfully I had ended up packing things myself, because there was nothing in anyone's notes from Jake saying the movers were packing my things. They were also contracted to move my husband's gun safe, which I reminded several people during my numerous calls. One lady told me that would be no problem because there would be three or four movers. Well, there were two movers who looked at the safe and said there was no way they could do it alone. So, we had to pay $600 to buy a new safe in Florida.

The movers themselves were the only bright spot in this disaster. They asked if they could come back the next morning to pack the truck and I was half afraid they wouldn't come back, but they did. They got things loaded in a couple of hours, but it was downhill from that moment.

They closed up the truck, and I asked when I could expect delivery. It was obvious since they were three days late picking my things up that they wouldn't be there the next day, but I still believed what Jake told me, which is that it would take four days. When the driver told me it could take up to 14 days I couldn't believe it. This was not what I was told. I was leaving for the airport right after they left and was only going to be in Florida for a week. He said they would try to get my things to me before the following Wednesday.

My availability for receiving my goods was the same day they picked them up, June 22nd. My contract said that it could take up to 14 calendar days from the day I was available to receive my things, but I was still naively thinking I would get them quickly. Another surprise..the bill of lading was from Tweety Moving, dba Supreme Movers, out of Hialea Florida. So much for not subcontracting.

One week went by with no word about a delivery. I got a call on Friday, June 30 from someone named Jenny, who left a message to call her because she had an exact delivery date for me. I have the voicemail and a transcript. She gave me an extension too. I called her back almost immediately. The extension was not hers, and whoever it belonged to was really rude. I spent the whole afternoon trying to contact Jenny..nobody could find her, even though her "stuff" was still there. Nobody could find the dispatcher either, to verify a shipment. And nothing was in the computer. I ended the afternoon finally hanging up after waiting on hold for 40 minutes. Needless to say, there was no delivery date for me. I had to once again change my flight, another couple hundred dollars spent. I rescheduled it for the day after the contracted 14 days was up, because of course I thought they would at least stick to the contract.

At day 13, my husband called, to be told that our household goods were in a warehouse in Chicago, with no scheduled pick up on the horizon. Nowhere in my contract did it say that they were going to pick up our things, dump them in a warehouse that is not even close to the route from Columbus to Florida, and leave then there indefinitely. He spoke to someone who said "you don't understand this business, do you?" Apparently our load wasn't big enough and they were waiting for other loads to add to it. Jake certainly had no problem with the size of our load when he took my money and promised delivery in four days. This guy my husband talked to actually was indignant that we should be upset. I had again changed plane flights and finally gave up after 17 days and flew back to Ohio. Lots of money spent on flights. We arranged for friends to meet the truck if it came.

On Thursday, July 13th, I got a call from a driver named Mike, who said he was an independent contractor and had my things. He would deliver them on Saturday. On Friday, I got a call from Alex at Superior, saying my things had left the warehouse that morning. I was a little confused because I thought they had left the night before but didn't argue. Saturday morning, I called Mike, who said that I had to call the company because another carrier had my things. What? Was anybody going to let me know that if I hadn't called? I had people waiting at my house to receive my things. We called the company, to be told that our things were somewhere in Florida. Three days went by and no sign of a delivery. I called and got Alex, who thought our things had been delivered already. He said he would call me back, which has NEVER happened. My husband called them back and was told our things were on a truck in Georgia. So we went from Florida to Georgia? Three more days went by and on July 21st my husband called Alex, to be told that our things were still in Chicago. They had never left. Supposedly they pulled the wrong number to ship. How can anyone be that incompetent?

On Monday, July 24th, my husband talked to both Walter and Alex, who both said that our things would be shipped that week and we would have them by Sunday or Monday. They even had the nerve to say we were a priority and they would expedite our delivery. I really think the expediting ship sailed weeks ago. They said they would get back to us to confirm, which we knew would not happen. Well guess what? No return of calls, and no shipment.

Finally, on August 6th, I got a text from Mike the subcontractor. He said he would be at my house the next day, Sunday, between 10 and 11am. He told me my balance had to be in cash only. My contract stated I could could pay with a postal money order but he said cash only. On Sunday morning we were ready and waiting. By 2:00, when he hadn't shown up, I texted him, no reply. I texted again later, also no reply. He never showed up or contacted me. I texted him the next morning and he did reply that he had a flat tire and would be here on Tuesday, 100%, at noon or before. Why did we have to wait until Tuesday if he was supposed to he here on Sunday? On Tuesday morning at 11:30 am he texted to see if he could get into the gate at night. I asked why and he said they were 9 hours away in Augusta Georgia. Are you kidding me? I got special permission to get them in after hours, but knew they would not come, and they didn't. Mike didn't text to tell me either. I texted him at 9:30pm to see if he would reply. He did..he said they got a room in Fort Myers and would be here first thing in the morning. He also reminded me that I had to pay $800 cash. I wish they cared as much about our goods as they do about that money. So we were ready, first thing in the morning, and I got a text at 7:30 am saying that they had one job ahead of us and would be there at 1:00. Did he have that job last night when he told me they would be here first thing in the morning? So, 1:00 came and went and no movers. I got a text at 2:30 saying they were 40 minutes away. They finally got here at 3:30..three and a half days after Mike texted me. These were subcontractors from Supreme Moving. They came in a Budget Rental truck. Before I paid them I made them show me the load to make sure it was ours. These two had horrible attitudes, as if I were asking for something unreasonable. When I looked in the back of the truck, I was appalled. Our stuff was the biggest jumble of haphazardly piled up mess I have ever seen. They actually admitted to my husband that they had moved it five times since it had been on the truck. And who knows how many times it was handled while sitting in a warehouse for over six weeks. As these boxes came off the truck, with my husband helping, I just couldn't believe it. Some were smashed, with stuff hanging out of them. Heavy plastic bins were broken. Boxes marked fragile were dented in, and the things inside them broken. These boxes were very well packed, by me. There were things far more fragile than the broken ones that made it unbroken, because the boxes weren't mutilated. I lost 10 original pieces of art..these things can't be replaced. We lost sentimental things our children made. I had a broken piece of china that is discontinued. There were damaged items that I was able to repair, but they are still damaged. The one little table I moved is missing a knob and has an irreparable chip out of it. Our clothes were damp and had a horrible smell, probably from sitting in a hot warehouse for six plus weeks, and a hot truck for another. I had things that were smashed packages of glass that I couldn't even unwrap to get a picture. Very well wrapped bundles too, in layers of bubble wrap and paper. We just threw them away like that.

No reputable moving company operates this way. This was a disaster from beginning to end, and we are so glad it is over, but I don't want anyone to go through what we went through. When you see one star reviews mixed in with five star reviews, pay attention to the reviews with one star. I could have written any of those reviews, and should have paid more attention to them when I booked with this company. And yes, I did check them out first, just chose to believe the majority. It amazes me that these people have had seamless moves across the country while I and other one star people have had horrible experiences. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Here are some other things to think about..their customer service is department sounds like a frat party. I even heard a dog barking once. The people sound like teenagers and if you have a problem they will put you on hold and leave you there for long periods of time. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't, sometimes they disconnect you. I can tell you that they will not call you back, no matter what they promise you. They do not reply to emails. About every other call goes to voicemail where you can leave a message. Don't bother. They have lied to us at every turn. I posted a review on their Facebook page that was gone very quickly. I'm guessing others have too. My attorney did some digging and found that they are owned by a company sharing the same address by the name of No Hassle Moving Corp. I posted a review on that page too, also gone.

The only reason they have one star from me is that it's the lowest I can give. I have often wondered if there is an owner who has any idea what is going on. I can't believe anyone would run a business this way. I had a Plan B if these people had not shown up back in June to get my goods..I just wish I had eaten the deposit and gone with the other mover.

Here are some things to look for in a reputable long distance mover: they come to your house and list everything you want to take, then give you a price. It only changes if you add things to it. They weigh your goods. They do not ask for deposits. They will take credit cards and not demand cash only at delivery. They will take inventory at both pick up and delivery. They have their own trucks and drivers and do not subcontract. They will honor their pickup and delivery dates unless there are extenuating circumstances, and if that happens, they will call you. If you don't get all of these things in a mover, find another mover! Good ones are out there. They might be a little more expensive, but keep in mind that this company gives you low estimates to get your deposit, and then charges you more later.

These people are borderline criminals who will lie to you to get your deposit, then proceed to do whatever they want. I was told by Jake that delivery would take four days, my contract stated that it could take up to 14 calendar days, and it actually took 46 calendar days. Total breach of contract. I spent hundreds to rebook plane tickets five times because of this breach of contract and $600 to replace the safe that they were contracted to move. So the reasonable price wasn't a reasonable at all. We trusted this company with our valuable possessions, and they gave us horrible service and destroyed goods.

For the people who monitor this site and try to say that I am not a customer, I can assure you that I am, even though I never actually saw one person who actually works for them. I have filed complaints with FMCSA and BBB, and will file with the attorney general of New Jersey soon. These people should not be allowed to do business this way. And for anyone who can't believe this story could be true, the pictures don't lie. I just wish I could have posted more of them.

Long-distance move from Eugene, OR to Los Angeles, CA

Great moving company!

I contacted Superior Moving Systems to help me move my family from Eugene, OR to Los Angeles. I was nervous to hire a moving company since I have always moved on my own, but over the years after adding to my family and belongings there was no way I could do this myself. Superior Moving Systems stepped in and made the process very smooth! The customer service I received during the call was great and they were able to provide me with a very reasonable quote for moving my three bedroom home. They let me choose an appointment time and arrived on time. They carefully wrapped my furniture and antiques making sure that nothing would be broken, while still moving quickly. My worries faded away after I met the professional friendly movers and I knew my belongings would be safe with them! When they unloaded my belongings they helped to put everything in the rooms they would belong and nothing was lost or broken! Highly recommended!

Long-distance move from South Orange, NJ to New York, NY

Superb Moving Experience.

My husband and I needed a moving company that we could rely on to move some furniture into our daughter's new condo. After thoroughly reviewing and checking other moving companies we decided to hire Superior Moving for the job and we are so happy we did.

First of all they were on time. This was so important to us because we were on a time crunch. They came and packed our items neatly into the truck and ensured all the items were packed securely. They delivered the items to the destination hassle and damage free. We couldn't ask for better service. My husband was so impressed with their professionalism. They exceeded our expectations.

Company lies and overcharges - Do NOT use this company!

Job #S7981209
DOT #2323030

I wrote to [NAME EDIT] and [NAME EDIT], the company CEO. Highlights from that letter outline my complaints:
*Breach of contract (by failing to deliver my belongings in the 14 business days stated in the contract) and for the many broken items I’ve found as I’ve been unpacking.
*Lies told by sales rep [NAME EDIT] and misleading statements and lies made by customer service reps that my 14 days was going to be my actual delivery date, 14 days from pick up, not from the delivery date.
*Delivery date was June 30th. The actual delivery was July 30th, 20 business days after the scheduled delivery, just one day short of the FMCSA requirement that a shipment must be received within 21 business days.
*No bill of lading provided
*No penalty or per diem listed in contract for delivery delay
*Unauthorized electronic check, in the amount of $1,271.23, was deducted from my checking account on June 12th. I did authorize the initial two electronic checks that were the downpayment for my initial “binding contract” for $5,000, electronic check 9999 for $1,750 and the deposit for packing help of $450, electronic check #9998. However, the $1271.23 I did not agree to or authorize
*During unpacking, which is still in process, I discovered numerous items that were broken. Large boxes were packed, half full with paper, so that a medium-sized box looks like it is a large size, increasing the cubic volume of the shipment. Many of the boxes were packed badly and stuffed with extra paper.
*Increasing the cubic volume of my household goods from 1200 cu.ft. to 1691 cu.ft. is a scam practice. After talking with the driver picking up my belongings, I found out that the truck was a 26 or 27 ft. truck. My property only took half of the truck. Half of 1700 cu.ft. is 890 cu.ft., so my load was not even 1200 cu.ft! Yet, on the day before I had to be out of my house, SMS increased the volume to 1691 cu.ft., effectively doubling the space my belongings were taking up!
*Never notified of a partial pack option. I had been packing for weeks, placing most of my belongings in plastic tubs. I told the customer service rep that I would really only need help with my lamps, television, some art. The unfortunate thing is that, in addition to a table with multiple gouges and two patio chairs damaged, 4 of my lamps were broken, and one large print had the glass broken. No bubble wrap was used, and nothing was done to protect the lamp shades.
*SMS increased packing services from $1200 to $1700. The contract states: “Full packing services are guaranteed for a flat rate”, not a percentage. Because cu. volume was increased, SMS increased the fuel surcharge by 15%.
*I was also charged $450 for a “professional piano mover.” I was told there would be 4 movers, one of whom was the professional piano mover. When the movers showed up, the two men didn’t know about a professional piano mover or the 4 movers I was told I would get. Eventually, Jeremy, a “dispatcher,” found two movers from another company in Columbus, Ohio who came and helped load the piano. When my piano was delivered, there were only the two movers, [NAME EDIT], a sweet 26-year old and his younger helper. The only way they were able to get my piano into the house was with the help of my 36-year old son and myself. My son has bruises from getting my piano in the house and set up. However, the $450 charge was a scam. Ozzy, the driver who picked up my piano, paid the two movers $200 to help load it onto the truck. $450 less the $200 paid to the two Columbus, Ohio movers comes to $250, the amount overcharged.
*The business practices that SMS seems to have embraced are shady at best and fraudulent at worst. Customer service is atrocious: I called 16 days between July 1st and the 27th to find out why my belongings hadn't been delivered. I called or attempted to call a total of 68 times. I’ve been put on hold, for as long as 40 minutes before hanging up, put on hold only to have the call “dropped” (numerous times), had the call transferred only to have the call “dropped,” and have been hung up on.On the 10th of July, I was told by [NAME EDIT] the “it’s getting tight” since the 14th “this Friday is the contract deadline.” [NAME EDIT], on July 12th, said that delivery would be by “mid next week.” On the 13th, [NAME EDIT] said that my belongings had moved from the storage unit and was scheduled for the move. On the 14th, [NAME EDIT] told me that they were “working on getting it (the move) coordinated.” On Wed. the 19th, [NAME EDIT] told me that the Department of Transportation was inspecting the warehouse, so now my belongings would not be loaded until “this Friday.” I was told that a semitruck driver was on the way, and the next phone call that they couldn’t get a driver. Somewhere during this time, I realized that I was getting the run-around, was being lied to, and that my belongings were either lost, stolen, or being held hostage so I would get charged for storage that I didn’t need or want!

The following is my complaint sent a few weeks ago to the Better Business Bureau.
Case #: 12280618
Sent to Business on: 07/21/2017
Consumer Info:

Nature of the Complaint: Delivery Issues
Consumer’s Original Complaint:
Superior Moving Systems has not delivered my household goods as agreed by the 14 business days stated in the contract. When I call customer service, I get a different explanation for why my belongings have not been loaded onto a semi from the storage unit. Additionally, when I call to ask about where my belongings are being stored, they can't tell me what city they are in, only that they are in Indiana. Depending on who I talk to, I have been told that they are trying to find a truck, that loading of the truck will happen in a few days, that a driver and truck have been located but loading has been delayed because the Department of Transportation is doing a surprise inspection, and that my belongings are no longer in the storage, but in a staging area. I no longer know what to believe. Everything I own is supposedly in storage at some "Executive Storage" warehouse, and for some reason, they can't get it to me. This, on top of surprising me with additional charges. The original "binding contract" was for a total charge of $5,000, and on moving day, the amount was doubled because, according to the company and the driver, I had 1691 cubic feet of goods, not 1200 cu. ft. But, the important part of this complaint is that my household goods, all my belongings, have not been delivered and are still in some executive storage facility somewhere in Indiana, and they can't tell me where. Also, they are not and have not given me a day and time that my belongings will arrive.
Consumer’s Desired Resolution:
I would like to have all of my belongings delivered, in good condition, as soon as possible. For the breach of contract, I would like to have financial compensation.. specifically, my property, clothes, medications, etc. returned at no additional cost to me. ASAP!

As stated earlier, I did get my belongings a full month late, but at great cost and a great deal of hassle and stress. I find it hard to believe that anyone is writing good reviews about this company.

Please be sure to go to smcsa.dot and read the protect your move information before you sign anything!! This company changes its name when it starts to get too many complaints.

Great and Friendly Service!

Superior moving was a real help to me when I was moving down to Florida for school! Their movers were professional and careful with my furniture and boxes. I have had a few bad experiences with moving companies so I was a bit worried about them breaking my stuff during the move, but everything came out unscathed, thankfully! I loved the fact I could call them and get an update as well. They arrived on time and moved everything into my house pretty efficiently. I would recommend their services to anyone.

Long-distance move from New Haven, CT to Rego Park, NY

Truly Superior Moving Service for Triboro Area.

These folks practically moved my entire home from Connecticut to Rego Park this morning. They were MARVELOUS! All furniture including upright piano and my wife's heavy sewing machine table got there without any damage. They arrived at destination shortly before we did and remained past our scheduled time to help us unload. I definitely would use them again - IF I had to move again (hopefully not - moving is such a pain) I would let these folks do all the work!

Long-distance move from Alabama to Florida

Great service.

Superior Moving Systems is such a great company. They were prompt at arriving on time to load my giant fish tank, couch, refrigerator, and other random items. When they arrived I received nothing, but premier customer service. They shook my hand and then got right down to business, they loaded everything securely, I offered to help, but they assured me that they had it all taken care of. Sure enough while waiting at my new house they arrived at the exact time they said that they would with all of my belongings. I was nervous (especially about my fish tank), but it had all been loaded in a respectable manner. They even unloaded it and put up with me changing my mind about where the items needed to be arranged. A++ rating from me. If any of my friends or family need anything moved from small stuff to vehicles, my #1 recommendation would be Superior moving systems!!
