Long-distance move from Roanoke, VA to Dallas, TX

Worst moving experience.

I have moved nearly every year for the past 10 years of my life. Without a doubt, Long Distance Movers has caused this move to be the worst moving experience of my life. I had arranged the service nearly a month in advance and gave a delivery date window. The movers did not show up to my place in Virginia until 3 days before they were supposed to be in Dallas, nearly 1200 miles away. The delivery window given to me was 11am-1pm and I took a half day off work. The movers did not show up until 830pm and did not finish the move until nearly 11pm. As for delivery, it has been 6 days since the agreed upon delivery and I still do not have my things. I have called 5 times with someone saying they'll get back to me and I have not heard anything regarding the status of my belongings. I have been at my new place without a bed to sleep in for over a week. Stay away from this service. They are contractors that just take your money and don't care about the customer at all afterwards. There were changes in fees and various extra charges. STAY AWAY!

Long-distance move from North Carolina to California

They don't tell you they are a broker.

They are not the actual movers. I contacted them when I thought the estimate I got from Mayflower was too high. They were very accommodating on the phone and I felt reassured that I would get a better deal for a cross-country move. There was a lot of communication at the beginning, and the price kept inching up. Still I stuck with them. We set the date and I spoke with a person who then put me in touch with the actual movers. I was very surprised and disappointed. The actual movers showed up on a Mon for what was supposed to be a Thurs/Fri pickup from the week before. The excuse was a truck broke down in TX. Then, they didn't have any of the packing materials I had contracted for and a friend if mine had to drive them to a U-Haul place to pick up boxes, etc. They said it was because they weren't the original guys who were supposed to pack me up. Remember the truck that broke down in TX! I did have a lot of stuff and the guys worked very hard and kept a great attitude, too. I signed off on pages and pages of paperwork and didn't realize until the delivery that they had charged me full price for the packing materials they didn't have and which they improvised a lot of. And then they were a week late delivering, although I was assured they did tell me 3 weeks and not the 10-14 days I heard. My stuff rattled around on a hot truck for three weeks and thousands of miles! Long, long story short, the guys who showed up were great, but the overall service rendered by Long Distance Movers and the van line they contracted to were terrible. I ended up paying what Mayflower estimated, for very poor service. JUST DON'T!!

Long-distance move from Madison, WI to Sausalito, CA

Long Distance Movers, Inc.

This outfit is not professional. They told me that they would do the moving themselves, reneged on their binding estimate, and changed the terms of the contract whenever they felt like it. They subcontracted with Best Price Moving and Storage, and they subcontracted with Hamsa Transport, who hired people off the street on both ends. The Best Price dispatcher told me that Long Distance Movers, Inc regularly lies to their customers. The people disassembling and packing your personal belongings are not the same people who unload the truck and feign to reassemble things on the other end. The hired street people and the subcontractors don't care what they break and they are not bonded. Long Distance Movers, Inc does not intend to reassemble your things or finish the job on the other end. Again, the subcontracted subcontractor hires homeless on the other end to unload your belongings and they are forced to abandon the job because Long Distance Movers Inc subcontracts to New Jersey thugs, Hamsa Transport, who take your cash and run. Oh! Did Long Distance Movers, Inc tell you that you can use a credit card on the other end? They lied again. In addition, I asked for a re-weigh which they were legally bound to give, but the driver refused. I also paid an additional $300 to have my motorcycle transported door to door. Hamsa Transport did not rent a big enough U-Haul on this end to handle my bike, so I rode it from San Francisco to Sausalito.

Long-distance move from Buffalo, NY to Richmond, VA

Bad service.

I found this company online and then received a call from Jeff. The initial quote he gave to me is $5800 ( in case for any items missed, l added 1000lb more). Four days prior to moving day, a guy name Eric called me and asked me to revisit the inventory and he increased the price to $8900. I refused to accept the deal but If I do so, they won't refund my deposit. I was cornered and accepted the deal. The mover came to my house yesterday with 2hrs delay. After they loaded all my stuff to his truck, he asked for $11200! I was totally shocked! I asked him to go through the inventory, checking which items are not on the list. Indeed, the final items we loaded on his truck are less than the ones on the quote, e.g., 5 extra large boxes (see attached photos). In addition, I ordered door to door service but I packed many stuff by myself. I refused to sign the bill and called the customer service. A lady told me someone will call me in minutes but nobody has called me back. And then, the driver asked me to talk to his boss from the company. The guy was screaming to me on the phone. Later I called the customer service again and she couldn't find either his name or phone number. Now the driver began to dump my packages on ground. It was almost middle night and there are 4 guys in my house. I was scared and agreed to pay $9500. Then the driver asked me to pay the half balance in cash or the full amount in check. I refused to do so, and then the guy began to scream to me, spilling dirty words out of his mouth. I am almost ready to dial 911. My neighbor heard the noise and came over to my house. Finally the driver agreed to accept check. Instead of paying his company, he asked me to write a check to a person ( an Arabic name). Once again, I refused and he began to scream again. Finally, he asked me to write a $1000 check to his company and pay the rest balance on delivery. It was a nightmare! My neighbor witnessed what happened last night. I am thinking to hire a lawyer to sue your company and the mover in case more customers will be cheated and hurt.

Long-distance move from Pittsburgh, PA to Chicago, IL

Serious lack of communication-would NOT recommend.

This company is simply a middle-man. I stood not recommend them unless you want to cry yourself to sleep from the stress they put you under.
This is my first time hiring a moving company. I originally spoke to one man (Scott) in the beginning of June and explained to him that I'm moving from what is technically the third floor of an apartment building. He never provided any information about charges for stairs, and he says he'll be with me through every stage of the move. Fast forward to the week before my move (Tuesday, 7 days before) and I call Scott again, only to be told he'd call me back. Four days pass and eventually I get a phone call from Heidi (on Saturday), someone I'd never spoken to. She updates my estimate and inventory list, as there had been some changes. Within 2 hours of our phone call, I sent an email with an additional item and the dimensions for that item. I sent that email as a direct reply to the email address that had sent me my estimate. No reply. Two days later (at this point it's Monday), I got a phone call from Annie (who I'd never heard from before) telling me what day to expect the movers and that she'd call me back the following day to confirm the time. Annie did not go over the email that she sent me because I didn't have access to my email at the time that she called me. When I spoke to Nancy on Thursday, she told me I was supposed to have been informed about charges pertaining to stairs, etc. when Annie called.
When my movers actually arrived, they had an incorrect inventory list. They had the list that Scott had made in the beginning of June! I called Long Distance Movers 3 times because I wanted to show the movers my copy of the inventory but I couldn't access it, and each time I was told someone would call me back (they didn't, thus the repeat calls). Eventually someone emailed me a copy of it and sent me a text message with no identification of who they were.
When my movers arrived (Wednesday), I had no idea that they weren't actually from Long Distance Movers. They were from another company that had been hired before. They packed everything and charged me for the "extra" cubic feet that included the item that I had emailed Heidi about on Saturday. On Thursday, I called the phone number for Eric, which was listed on my estimate. He said he didn't know how I got his phone number because he'd never spoken to me before. I said it was what was provided on my estimate. He said he didn't know why and proceeded to transfer me to customer service, where I spoke to Nancy. Apparently no one had even bothered to look at my emails, despite them being sent 1. Within 2 hours of a phone call and 2. To the email address provided on my actual estimate.
I explained to Nancy what happened. She said Scott should have incorporated three stairs charges if I'd told him about them, and she didn't really have anything to say about the emails that had gone unanswered. I also told her that I should have been provided with the information (fees, prices, etc) about the company that they selected as my servicer beforehand. I didn't even know who they were contacting me out to (let alone that they were doing that) until the driver showed up and told me to sign paperwork and I saw the header on his papers.
She flat out asked what I expect her to do about this. I told her what I wanted and she said she'd write it up and take it to her manager. I said I expected to hear from someone later that day (Thursday, it was 9:30am at the time of our call). She said okay, someone will call me back. It's Saturday. No one has contacted me yet.
Because of their lack of communication, the cost of my move has gone up almost $600. I had to ask my parents for money because of that increase. I've shortened my story, but there's more involving extra fees they added because they couldn't find a driver (and a fight over who's paying for that). Please contact me for more information.

Long-distance move from New York to Alabama

Horrible service and quality.

Today, our movers were supposed to be here to move our stuff. When my husband went to sign them onto the military installation they had no insurance, fake plates and DOT #, and one had a felony for insurance fraud. Needless to say, we didn't get our stuff moved the day we were scheduled and have to wait and see who we get tomorrow without a given time. Therefore, if the same instance happens tomorrow, we are not likely to have a mover in time to move our HHG during PCS season because everyone is booked. The same thing happened a few weeks ago to another couple on the military installation. Their driver couldn't get onto our military installation because of a felony and we called before hand about this to let them know about the situation so it didn't happen to us. Needless to say, it happened any way. I will never recommend this company to ANYONE!

Long-distance move from Michigan to Georgia

Once they get your money, don't expect any service.

DONT USE!! CAUTION!! WARNING!! WARNING!! the person who said that they are indifferent and uncaring to customers was completely correct. Get ready to pay way more than what you thought or were quoted. They won't tell you up front but they refuse to take items unless you pack them the way they want you to. I've never experienced a moving company like that. As long as stuff is packed, then take it. But no, you have to buy specific boxes, they won't take TV's or computers without being boxed. No bags for clothes, only boxes. Ended up costing me $1000 more than what they originally quoted. Also the communication is terrible!! The only time they will contact you is to get your money. Any issues after that, good luck. They are constantly saying we'll call you back and it never happens. No one called me even the day I was getting stuff picked up. Then they told me they were dropping off on a certain day. By afternoon, I hadn't heard from them so I called and they say they don't know where my stuff is or when it will be delivered. Horrible!! Do not use!! Use two men and a truck. Better value, better service.

Long-distance move from California to Colorado

Worst experience ever!!

They gave us a quote, and then when push came to shove to move us they kept on raising and raising the price they were rude, drinking on the job, they were disrespectful. They weren't upfront about what they wouldn't move for us.. but still kept raising the cost. They tracked food all through my carpets. All they did was argue when it came down to explaining why the price went up. Worst experience ever!!

Long-distance move from California to Washington

Bad Experience.

Leadership Logistics was the local company they hired to do my packing and moving job. However, I was overcharged on the name of special boxes, like wardrobe boxes which were just used as normal boxes! Clothes were dumped in them rather than hung! Pantry items were kept in it!Same for dishpack boxes.
Even moving was horrible because they they damaged most of our furniture and lost our dresser (we got it back after a day)
It was a bad experience.
However, after I wrote a review on Yelp I was contacted by their Senior Contractor who offered me a compensation as well as told me that they plan to cut off Leadership Logistics from their network. Im glad a step was taken. On the plus side, they were quite punctual.I used them for my car move too and that went completely fine.

Long-distance move from Batavia, IL to Austin, TX

Poor Experience.

This company has wasted enough of my time so I will be brief and concise. I was quoted a price by Thomas that I was told would not change, since it was based on weight and not the amount of boxes. Since I only had a bed and dresser as larger pieces, he said I was under their 2,000 pound minimum and even if I added boxes, the price would not change. He also told me it would be around 5 days from the pickup to the delivery and the longest it would be is 8 days. This is the first time I've used a moving company and it sounded like he knew what he was talking about. I put down the deposit that day, the next day, got a call saying the price was changed because I had more boxes than quoted. Thomas didn't even ask how many boxes I had when I talked to him. I started explaining this to the man on the phone, but he put me on hold while I was still talking. When he came back, I told him that that was very rude and he continued to tell me that he knew Tom, and it sounded like he had a bad day, that why I was misquoted. Wow. We then had the movers come a few days later, that's what the extra star is for or else I would put them at 1. The movers that loaded our things and the movers that unloaded are things were very nice, gentle with out things and were quick and efficient. Funny thing is, this company doesn't directly employee these guys, they were both from different moving companies since they contract out. The WORST part of this whole experience is out of the EIGHT times I called this company to see where our things were, all EIGHT times they couldn't tell me where our things were. Couldn't tell me if they were still at the warehouse, couldn't tell me if they were on the road, nothing. How do you not have a system where you can tell the people that the trusted you with their possessions, where they are?! How insane!! Every time I called, the lady on the phone was nice but it was extremely frustrating. I even called Tom at his extension, told him what the situation was and he put me on hold without any conversation and transferred me to the same lady I had talked to. We waited 13 days for our possession, that was 13 days of sleeping on a blow up mattress, 13 days of eating out since we had no kitchen equipment, 13 days without anything. If we would of known it was going to take this long, we would of better prepared but when someone tells you most likely 5 days and it takes 3 days to drive to our new home, that's only a few days without your things. After all of this, I never received a phone call, email or any follow up from them like normal companies do. They want their money and don't care about customer service when that is what your buisness is really all about, people and their livehood. Please don't use this company, spring for the extra customer service, tracking system and all around better morals.
