Long-distance move from Indianapolis, IN to Madison, WI

Unethical scam.

This was my family's first move to another state (Indiana to Wisconsin). I have moved countless friends and family members myself and really thought that was how we'd do it. But it became evident that we needed assistance. Plus, I was to receive financial help from the company that hired me!

We got sold and scammed. LDM came on very strong in their sales pitch, but seemed like the best "deal." Additionally, the salesman was not so much aggressive as persistent, which I took to be a positive sign.

My wife and spent quite a while inventorying our items and going over everything with a fine toothed comb with the salesman. He gave us a guaranteed maximum price over the phone and then sent a contract by email. The contract, of course was an ESTIMATE. I prodded and questioned and was assured that unless there was some "piano hidden somewhere that we forgot to mention" we'd be within our estimate and may come in under.

About a week out from our move date we were contacted by another moving company who was (apparently) affiliated/subcontracted by LDM. This mover said that the window for the move was about a week and a half. I mentioned quickly that we'd agreed upon a pick-up and drop-off date specifically. This person was very brusque and said she didn't think it "worked like that." I spent first half of that day calling LDM folks, never getting hold of the original salesman trying to find out why we'd not be moved on the dates specified. Eventually the gruff person from the other company called back and said, "Well I guess we'll see you one the date you specified. You must have important friends."

Meanwhile my wife called to ask me if we'd like to change our moving date because a company called (the same subcontractor) and asked if we could move about a week ahead of schedule to better fit there workload.

When the movers arrived (on the originally agreed upon date, but about 2 hours late) they were from a different company entirely and had very little information including an incomplete packing list and no schedule. I found out that they were affiliated with the subcontractor mentioned above. The were huffy from the off. Complaining about everything from the distance to the house from the street (about 30 feet), to the stairs (listed as 2-story), to the amount of stuff (admittedly not in their incorrect manifest). On and on, they were quite vocal about how "bullshit" everything was.

They also wondered why we hadn't packed anything. Of course everything we owned was in boxes ready to be taken out the door. What we were not informed about was "packing" the furniture. Wrapping blankets around everything and packing foam or taping drawers shut etc. Not having had a company handle it before, I had no idea it wasn't something they'd do as they packed the truck. We were, of course, informed that this would all be itemized on our invoice. I thought to myself, "How much could a few rolls of packing foam and a bunch of packing tape cost? Plus, they are the professionals packing the truck. Surely, they'd do a far better job than I would anyway. Probably worth a small increase to have peace of mind. What a nerve wracking day, though.

Two days later, we met the movers at our new home. Except they weren't the same people at all. Novice, here. Didn't know that they weren't the same crew, but it makes sense.

The day started with me being handed a new invoice with a grossly inflated cost several thousand dollars more than the "guaranteed maximum price." I called the salesman first. He referred me to the secondary company who actually accomplished the moving. Same gruff woman who had softened at first only to double down. She yelled over the phone threatening to "sue" over my "lies." Not sure at all what she was on about, but the result was that if I didn't pay, I didn't get my belongings. They'd be stored until litigation completed. Never thought I'd lose my entire household's worth of belongings in one fell swoop. I caved and paid.

This group was extremely efficient and much more careful and conscientious. Instead of only two people as with the loading, there were six! However, many of the items were damaged beyond repair and many more damaged but reparable during transit. So much for professional packing. I was told that the damaged items were reported to the companies insurance and I would be compensated for repairs. A report was given me with all of the damaged items on the (now complete manifest) circled with notes. I bought this group lunch and tipped big as they were apologetic and thorough and drew such a sharp contrast to the rest.

When I followed up with LDM and the original salesman about the damaged items, I was told that no one new such a person. Eventually, I found a direct line and NEVER got a call back. I tried about half-a-dozen times over the course of a few weeks. I though this salesman's persistence was a positive thing. Now he was persistently unavailable.

Long-distance move from Nashville, TN to Los Angeles, CA

Just look at my pics. I PROMISE you have NEVER seen anything like it!

First of all, please contact me if you have any questions. Secondly, I am only spending my time here in order to save any potential customers from having a similar experience to mine.

My move was with Long Distance Movers was heartbreaking. All of my furniture was destroyed. If you don't get all the information you need from my pictures and video, I'm happy to spend a few minutes trying to talk you out of working with this company. They are genuinely that bad at their job. Spend a few minutes reading the other reviews as well and believe them.

Here's the BAIT & SWITCH.. These people are BROKERS, not movers. So they do not do the moves themselves. They handed my move off to a 19 year-old who DIDN'T HAVE A TRUCK and HAD NEVER DONE A CROSS COUNTRY MOVE. When I spoke with the 19 year-old afterward, he told me that he told Frank he was concerned that he wasn't ready for it. Frank told him "don't worry, you're insured. You'll be fine." You see the thing is, Long Distance Movers are off the hook the second they get your check. They will tell you that they don't even have insurance and they can't cover any damage and that the second contract you signed with the moving company (the actual one, not the broker) supersedes the broker's contract and they broker is no longer involved. Take it up with the 19 year old they said. See "Francis'" review. Identical story to mine. Independent reviews with same story? You be the judge.

FACTS from the pictures: They moved my stuff in a local 26-foot truck across the country after telling us it would be moved in a trailer. There was ONE moving pad used in the entire truck and it covered about half of a leather couch.. the rest was rubbing against the wood bottom for 2200 miles at freeway speeds. Everything you see in these pictures was destroyed -- including punctures, gashes, scratches, and fractures in the furniture.

I don't doubt that these guys have successfully moved people from place to place. Of course they have.. but should you be one of those whose contents are damaged you will not get anything for it. I can't stress enough to just look at my pictures and if you still think this is who you would like to hire.. oh man. Here to help if I can. My stuff will never come back, but hopefully I've been able to save yours.

Jaron.

Long-distance move from Florida to Michigan

Luck was on my part this time.

I hired a moving company for the move but their cost was so high that I could not provide the money required for the move. I was helpless and decided to look for a different moving company. In my search, I came about Long Distance Movers whose quote was a lot cheaper. I had no option than to go with them but I was ready to make do with inferior service. To my amazement, their service was more wonderful than I expected and on time. I will recommend you guys to others henceforth. Every staff and worker in this moving company is excellent. I came to realize this on talking with their manager and also with the way the movers worked. Even their customer service reflected the same uniqueness and this made me to believe that they are all trained and versed in their job.

Long-distance move from Falls Church, VA to Schaumburg, IL

Got cheated very badly.

This is my first move across state. I was moving from Washington DC to Chicago. The quote given to me was 1500 for door to door move with tax, labor fuel charges. But when they came for move they told they need extra 300 + 75 + 120 + 75 ( for moving to Chicago, as the truck will not fit , they told + 75 feet away from door + extra packaging). But the same truck which took our stuff came and delivered to our doorsteps. Not sure then why was the extra 300 taken. also a proper receipt was not provided.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2100

Official company response

Rukkunudeen, we are sorry to hear you did not understand charges provided by our movers to you. We will have someone from our customer service department call you,to help you understand all the charges you received, the basic charges are listed on your estimates front page where it says understanding your estimate which breaks down all these prices you have listed.

We would like to help you however understand some of these charges and see if we can offer you some type of discount for the misunderstanding.

Long-distance move from Portland, OR to San Diego, CA

False Promises.

I went with Long Distance Movers because I was directly told that they did not use distributors and delivered shipments directly to the relocation address. This is false. Also, I was told that it would be no more than 3-7 business days total for delivery, but most likely will get to the new location within 5 business days. This is false as well. I'm currently at business day number 5 and just got off of the phone with a rep from Long Distance. They called the dispatcher at the distributor and they stated they will not be leaving for another 3 business days. By the time the shipment leaves (if they do leave as stated) we will be sitting at 8 business days for a trip from Portland, OR to San Diego, CA. If I would have known that this was possible I would have went with another company. I'm currently sitting in San Diego waiting for my shipment because I decided to come down early and get situated in my new residence (internet, cable, etc.) assuming the information provided to me was accurate. Also, I had to call for 3 days straight to get an answer about my shipment. If I would have received an answer the first time I would have waited to drive down to San Diego and enjoyed Portland, OR a little longer. Overall, initial customer service and pickup was great, but since they left with my shipment it has not been great and very little communication on their part. I'd recommend doing a deep dive into moving companies before going with one especially this company.

Long-distance move from Woburn, MA to Alpharetta, GA

Trap !

BEWARE: THIS IS A "TRAP"

Long Distance Movers INC - The representatives will scam and lure you into a very sweet deal and then as soon as you sign the contract, you are on your own. My experience with them was like a nightmare. I couldn't believe someone could go to such low professionalism just to cheat you and charge you eternally. I was cheated at every step, beware guys so that YOU DON'T FALL INTO THEIR TRAP!!

Scam with Loading: The first trait appears once you will receive their email with the contract estimate, they will try to rush you in getting your digital signature and close the deal off. "DON'T DO THAT" - that's where the scam begins, read the contract carefully and you will know why. In my case, I did that blunder of trusting these guys who were calling me endlessly - but I am now paying the consequences with a broken 65-inch TV and cracked furniture. The bigger shock came when they were not able to fit my stuff in their truck which was already 70% full, they had to tie my dining table and my king size mattress outside the truck - YES OUTSIDE THE TRUCK (look at the pictures). I knew something was fishy and started taking pictures. In essence, he charged me for the extra volume which he didn't had in the first place, this is illegal. Now after the loading was done, this guy cools off and discloses what just happened, that's when I came to know that he is from a vendor company that "Long distance movers" hired for my move and everyone had to make a margin especially them as they are doing the actual move. He even said, "Long distance movers" haven't done anything on their own except scamming you off for more money and I could have avoided all this if I would have selected the movers smartly I.e. someone who would do the actual move. So, my first suggestion, NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM if they will outsource the work to someone else.

Scam with Packing/Assembly: Mrs. Heidi Lynn from Long distance movers, asked me for an added 500 $ (over the existing 2K) to get a professional packing of my fragile items. I paid that amount and when it was pickup time, I see that my 65 Inch Samsung TV getting rapped poorly in a piece of cloth, no bubble wrap and no cartons. I called Long distance movers over phone to complain, but they said, don't worry you are covered with our insurance if anything breaks. If this is the professional packing Mrs. Heidi charged me for, then you can imagine the quality of service they promise. Eventually I get my delivery with a Broken TV and scratched furniture. It's almost 3 months now and I am still running to get my claim for the damage - my claim seems to be stuck as they do not have an inventory list of my move which is the responsibility of the movers in the first place. Long distance movers don't even pick my call - they have refused to take any responsibility or accountability. It seems to be my fault that I did an agreement with a company who bears no responsibility or accountability on my move as they outsourced the work to someone else who was an equal fraud.

Hope this doesn't happen to happen to anyone else, one way to ensure this is by not doing business with this company. They take advantage of the limited knowledge that customers have regarding the moving business and then rip you off. If they don't do the actual move and we have no control over who the actual carrier will be - then why do business with them, because if we do- the results will be damaging.

Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to Seattle, WA

Over promised and under delivered.

My purpose in posting this is to prevent others from being over promised and under delivered. Our move from Los Angeles to Seattle was beyond atrocious.

Between the blood, comments about race & complete unprofessionalism I would expect a full refund even if our stuff arrived flawlessly, which I assure you it did not.

Issues with service:
-We paid for our $12,000 tv to put put in a protected tv box. In reality, it was put in a wardrobe box that was taped together.
-We paid for our computer monitors to be put in a protected box and in reality they unscrewed, and wrapped in a blanket.
-We paid for our mattress to be put in a mattress case. In reality it was shrink wrapped and wrapped in a blanket. The mover promised me that he would put it in a sealed bag once they got to the warehouse. In reality he did not. In reality the plastic ripped and who knows what kind of dust or debris infiltrated.
-We paid for all of our lamps to be "expertly" packed. In reality they were all broken.
-We paid for our planters to be packed by the movers. In reality they were broken.
-We paid for our furniture to be wrapped in moving blankets and protected. See below for damaged dressers etc.
-Tommy told us that there wouldn't be a shuttle fee and that they do drop offs in downtown Seattle all the time. Night before our stuff was supposed to arrive we were told that we needed to pay $650 + elevator fees. Tommy texted that we should only pay $300. We decided to just settle and pay $600 with no elevator fees. I am unsure if this is on the recording because sometimes we talked to him on his cell phone.
-When the movers showed up to deliver our stuff they appeared as if they came from Craigslist. Rhino re-contracted with a separate company. I forgot the name of the company they said they were from but they were a mix of guys that honestly some of them seemed like they were on drugs.
-We were told they would have runners or materials to protect the floor and walls. I ended up putting cardboard boxes down on the floor. We have scuffs on all of the walls and floors of our new apartment. I get that there is going to be some damage during a move but this is another example of being promised one thing and having something else be delivered.
-One of the movers commented on me and Josh being in an inter-racial relationship. Completely unprofessional. You just have to turn on the news to realize that this is unacceptable.
-The movers started taking pictures of our apartment and our view. Weird. Unprofessional.
-Movers brought in boxes that were upside down, labeled "fragile" yet on the bottom of dollies.
-We paid for our bed to be put back together. The driver who put it together BLED all over it. This is disgusting and unhygienic. I was the one who cleaned off the blood. His tools didn't work so the bed isn't put together correctly. Screws are sticking out potentially damaging our new mattress. I will have to pay Crate and Barrel (This is a $1600 bed) to fix the slats. I am unsure what to do about the blood as it is really gross and potentially harmful to our health.
-We paid for our furniture, tvs, monitors, coffee table, metal shelving etc. to be unwrapped and put back together. NONE of this happened. WE DID IT ALL.

Even though It was abominable service, we tipped every single mover on both ends of the move. $50 for each mover who packed and $40 for each mover that delivered. We have really nice things and are generous people. My upset in all of this is that there needs to be accountability for the discrepancy in what we thought we were paying for and what we received. We paid $6,000 which is way overpriced but we were fine with this because we were promised excellent service.

I would like a refund. It's really not about the money and more about the gesture to acknowledge the lack of service. Due to the inability to acknowledge this mistake I cannot in good conscience not share our experience with others.

Long-distance move from Sneads Ferry, NC to Portland, OR

This Broker Takes No Responsiblity.

Long distance movers took my money, but never took responsibility for the long distance trucking firm - ZMS Trucking out of Passaic, NJ ODOT 2815421(an INTRA state trucker who took my goods from NC to a warehouse in NJ) they brokered to who tried to extort an additional $1600 from me with falsified weight tickets (see pics) saying my load was 1400 pounds over my estimate. My stuff was picked up June 20 and I started asking for weight tickets a few days later..what is pictured is what they sent me July 27..and as you can see, there is no correlation between the ticket information on the first and second weight tickets, and the second ticket has been hand corrected and other info has been redacted by ZMS Trucking. Beware of false 5 star reviews!! Do not trust, nor place you faith or household goods with this company. You will be forever sorry and going out of your way to write negative reviews just like me. I eventually settled for paying $700+ extortion in order to get my stuff.
Filed a formal complaint with FMCSA.

Long-distance move from Colorado to Washington

Liars.

These guys are full of empty promises!! They gave us a quote of $1800 to start with then called a few days before the move when we were outside the window to get our deposit back to tell us it would be more than $4000! We spoke with the manager about it and he promised $2200. We ended up paying $3200. Shady business for sure. They haven't tried to call me since I left a message the day of our move trying to talk to someone. This is not to mention some of the many other lies they told us. What happened to honesty and integrity?! A lot of our things were damaged and broken during the move as well.

Long-distance move from Miami, FL to San Antonio, TX

Fraudulent Weight Tickets.

NO STARS!! We researched the company before-hand and did see that it was a broker, but we never imagined that a reputable company would endanger their reputation by subcontracting to the absolute garbage we ended up with. For starters, our quote for a 3 bedroom house was about $5K total for a move from Miami (Fl) to San Antonio (TX). It included taking apart two beds, packing and wrapping some items, and was detailed as "binding". We paid them a deposit of $1720.64 (which was Long Distance Movers' brokerage fee by the way) a month in advance. We removed items from the quote before the move date as we ended up selling our son's entire bedroom set, a 125 gallon fish tank, and various other pieces of furniture. A day before the move date, I tried contacting Long Distance Movers customer service to get a pickup time, advising them that I had a disabled 6yr old in a wheelchair that would be waiting with me. They gave me an estimated pickup time of 10AM. The movers did not show up until 2:30 in the afternoon, despite spending HOURS calling me multiple times to tell me they were in traffic less than 45 minutes away (there were no traffic incidents that day as we were constantly checking). When the moving company finally showed up, they had a rented Penske truck with no identifying lettering or numbers other than the Penske logo. They also already had other items on their truck. When the representative of the company they sent, Simplify Moving from Asheville, NC (which doesn't exist), looked at my items, our estimate soon became $9K. He refused to touch anything until I agreed to the new amount AND paid $3194.08 immediately, even hanging up the phone on my husband and stating to me, "I don't work for you; you didn't hire me; call the broker." The weight ticket they forced me to sign was not an original copy and had hand-written details like the weigh date and weight amounts, in addition to the digitally generated ones that are automatically issued upon weighing. When we called Long Distance Movers, they just kept passing us from agent to agent, ultimately giving us another number to call (National Moving Group), which no one ever answered. They listed every single item on the manifest as "scratched," even though they weren't and we have pictures to the effect. During the loading process, they asked me for food and drinks, and took multiple "breaks" in their truck's cabin to SMOKE MARIJUANA. At their first break, my 13 yr old son came to me to tell me that "something smelled weird," to which I discovered them doing their illegal drugs on my property. It took them 6 hours to load the truck. They did not take apart the beds, telling me that I had to do it if I wanted them on the truck. They did not wrap the items we had already paid them to wrap. Actually, they didn't take the items. They left both of our couches, the items that were supposed to be wrapped (a curio cabinet and its contents, multiple TVs), an armoire, our dining room table (although they took the chairs), multiple bookshelves, multiple tool cabinets, two chests, our dresser, our bikes, a desk, and a bean bag. All they took was a QN headboard/footboard (metal, not bulky, no box spring even though they listed it on their manifest), my daughters' headboard/footboard and trundle, one QN mattress, two twin mattresses, one armoire, three 2-drawer kids' filing cabinets from Ikea, my daughter's wheelchair, and 76 18 gallon bins. When we contacted Long Distance Movers, they washed their hands clean of the issue stating that we had overage that was not calculated and would have to send another company to pick that up (which cost us an additional $1350 to a THIRD company). The driver of the "Simplify Moving" truck gave me his cell phone to "call with any questions" and advised they would arrive in TX the following day, Friday. When we called them, they never answered. They didn't show up until Sunday! And of course they wouldn't remove my items without an additional $3194.08. The movers then asked for more food and drinks. They refused to take any items upstairs, despite our estimate stating that stairs within the home were included. Multiple items were damaged, including the walls of the rented home as they banged things in an out. To add insult to injury, they had the audacity to ask for a tip!! We were never given any documentation- not the weight tickets or anything that I had been forced to sign. We actually had to hound customer service at Long Distance Movers for the papers because we couldn't file a damage claim for all the damages without them. We tried finding Simplify Moving of Asheville, but no such company exists. There's a company called Moving Simplified, but I can't imagine a company in business for "over 23 years," as the driver stated, can't remember its name. It took Liz at Long Distance Movers almost a week to email the items to us. When we requested a copy of the original weight ticket before my signature- specifically noting that the ticket looked falsified, we never got a response. We're actually still waiting for her to send that. I ended up doing the legwork myself by calling the scale location listed on my weight ticket. Lo-and-behold, the scale owner verified that yes, it was their scale number listed on the document, but the ticket number does not correspond with the sequence of numbers for the weigh date listed on my ticket- it's not even close, and they do not write anything manually on their tickets other than the signature of the scale operator. She took it one step further and gave me the CAT Scale contact info, where I was advised in writing that the weight ticket I provided them with (emailed the copy) does not have the same information reflected in their records. CAT Scale is sent an electronic log of every ticket directly immediately upon weighing. When I contacted Long Distance Movers, I spoke with "Todd" who represented himself as a supervisor/manager. He washed his hands clean of the issue stating that they were simply a broker, not the actual mover, despite them being who we contacted, who gave is the "binding" estimate, and who took $1720.64 for their rendered services. There was no apology or offer of compensation/restitution, just Todd's snarky attitude and him hanging the phone up on me. Thankfully, I recorded EVERY call and can prove all this because I do intended to follow through with legal action. There's a special place in the H E L L for people who SCAM a disabled child, and H E L L is actually what you'll get if you choose Long Distance Movers. BUYER BEWARE doesn't even come close. Falsifying a weight ticket is criminal, and proof of intent to defraud.

Long-distance move from Boston, MA to New York, NY

Long But Valuable to All Movers Considering:.

Please NEVER use this company, they should be shut down. I am a 27 year old girl who was moving from Boston to NYC several months ago. I had a short move-in timespan (about 2 days) and I carefully researched what moving companies had resources available during that time. I stumbled upon Long Distance Movers (2385 Nw Executive Center Dr, Suite 100 Boca Raton FL 33431) when their representative called me immediately. I had a pleasant conversation with him as we planned out my move. On the call I gave him credit card details that I put a deposit down on. He asked “do you want the rest to be charged on this card”. I said “yes”. The movers were to come the next day. First, they show up an hour later than the window they provided me (which was the least of my worries) - mind you, this was a different company than Long Distance Movers, now it was Super Movers & Storage (87 Wilson St., 1st Floor, Little Ferry, NJ 07643, DOT: 2855215, MC: 955904). The second these two scumbags come in (before even a proper introduction), the guy “in charge” immediately started pointing at each of my boxes and furniture saying “that will be $50 extra, so will this” and so on. I fought right back and said “no, I was told one quote and that is what I am paying”. My friend was there and couldn’t believe how sketchy they were and them trying to suck the money out of me that she started secretly recording the entire conversation. After speaking with their boss several times, he forced them to not charge me extra for anything. Then, they tell me they are picking up today (a Saturday) and dropping of Monday. I said “no, I specifically asked that it be dropped off Sunday as I start my new job that Monday”. After more arguing, calling the manager again, they decided they can drop off on Sunday. They don’t have me sign anything while they are picking up. Already feeling anxious about them having all of my stuff and being such scummy, sketchy men, I headed to NYC to see them the next day.

Before they came, I get this sketchy text saying that they are coming a totally different time than they said they would the day prior AND that I needed to pay the rest of the payment $1000+ in cash or a bank check. Mind you, it’s a Sunday, therefore, any smart person would know banks are closed and I wouldn’t be able to get a bank check. Also, I was confused considering I told the original guy on the phone that I wanted the entire payment on the card I already provided. They get there, I don’t have the money as I was going to explain to them the situation with the card. He told me that if I didn’t go and get cash then they were going to take all of my belongings back with them. I tried to go to the bank but I had a limit on how much I could take out. When I told him this, he packed up all of my belongings and didn’t remotely care that I was screaming and crying, completely helpless. When I explained the card situation, he mentioned that he forgot to bring the card payment form at pickup so I cannot pay with that now. How I am being punished that HE DIDN’T DO HIS JOB PROPERLY is beyond me. They start packing up my stuff back into the truck. I am screaming and crying so hard trying to call Long Distance Movers management. As it was a Sunday no one was picking up. I finally got in contact with their manager and you could tell he felt for me because I was so scared. I’m a young girl moving to a new city, completely taken advantage of by this sketchy company and all my belongings are in the possession of two complete scumbags. The manager and I went back and forth until he told me how to increase the limit on my ATM card in order to get the cash out. THE FACT that I even had to do that is crazy. I ended up doing it because I was so desperate and upset. As I am getting the money, the movers are harassing me over text messages saying “we’re driving back, now we will have to come tomorrow and you will get another $500 slapped on extra” over and over. When I got the money, I gave it to them, recording everything without them knowing just so that I had evidence in case they ever tried to say I didn’t pay. When I gave them the money - I couldn’t even look them in the face. Tears were streaming down and I was sick to my stomach. I went to a restaurant down the street while they moved everything in because I couldn’t be around them. When they had left I came back to an apartment that had all my belongings scattered EVERYWHERE, nothing set up as promised and the one fragile box I had was flipped upside down. At this point I was so exhausted I didn’t even care. I was just so thankful all my stuff was back in my possession and that I never had to see those men ever again.

I work in business and I have never been treated so poorly by any company in my entire life. I don’t normally write reviews but I vowed to myself that I would for this one because it was so beyond terrible and I truly believe this company (or both Long Distance Movers from Boca Raton, FL and Super Movers from Little Ferry, NJ) should be shut down for good. NO one should ever have to go through the terrible experience that I did.

Long-distance move from Page, AZ to Grand Junction, CO

Worst experience ever!

Don't know how they get any good reviews at all. The original price was good so we went with them with out checking reviews. A big mistake!! We booked the move 2 months ahead. Was given a Binding Moving Est. By the time everything was loaded on the truck the price was tripled and would not unload truck on the other end until paid in full in cash! They wouldn't pick up or deliver on the days promised originally. We were originally told for a 3 bedroom house it should only be 60 boxes, they are the so called experts so the week before they came to load the truck we had a lot more than that so we sold off beds, couch, tables, freezer ect. to make room for the extra boxes, didn't matter, they knew they were going to jack up the price regardless. The local men that they hired to help them unload, told us that they were taking our boxes and just throwing them off the truck. When I showed them the damage they did to our floors, they only tried to brush away the chunks of wood from the threshold and didn't care about the scratched up paint. Also, damaged furniture. (The brokered moving company LDM used was Streamline moving and storage, Las Vegas) they showed up in 2 budget rental trucks 26 ft and 11 ft., so now we are paying for 2 trucks and 2 drivers! I have never experienced anyone so rude and unhelpful as LDM's so called customer service.. They told me that they didn't care what anyone say's in their reviews or comments. I also filed complaints with BBB, FMCSA and the Florida Attorney General, also bombarding social media about this company!! Do not use these people!! website can't upload more that 2 pics ;-(.

Long-distance move from Jamaica, NY to Murfreesboro, TN

Croaks, poor service, broken and missing pieces.

I soughted this company after googling a bunch of moving companies and there reviews which was mainly positive without checking the Better business bureau website. What a mistake because their ratings is 2 stars on BBB and not 4.5 on goggle and I didn't know they are a BROKERS.
It has been a nightmare since then. I was contacted by Larry a senior relocation specialist who claimed to be best friend with the owner of LDM and they owned there own company, professional movers and trucks so my stuff should get to TN in a short time and without any problems. I explained to him what I wanted move from a storage (containing a small 1 bedroom apartment in NYC) and my budget of $1600. He offer discounts to accommodate me and decided on $1795 cost. Once I paided him the deposit. He disappeared. Upon moving day I was greeted by Anthony and 2 movers who drove a budget rental truck and not a LDM company truck. Anthony was extremely aggressive and bossy and wanted me to pay up to $6000 for a move that was originally $1795. We went back and forth and I called Larry who was no help. I was forced to sign a contract for a new price of $2807. Since then I called the office constantly to ask the status of a moving date and was given the run around with no call back as promised. Two weeks I asked for the owner and was told he would called me back and hasn't (it's been almost 2 weeks later). Then last Thursday I called and told them I'm going to the local news channel to expose them. Since then, I not only gotten a date but some of my things the next day on Friday.
The driver called me repeatedly Thursday evening after 5 pm and wanted to make sure I had the balance of payment of $574. Upon arrival on Friday he demanded I sign the contract or I wouldn't get my things up front without seeing or examining my stuff and he wanted an additional $75 because of the length of the truck and $40 a piece for anything broken? I told him no. He said if I " I took care of him and his helper" who look extremely young about 15 years old kid he would waive the $75 fee" I said what do you mean ? He replied " tips" I told him no again. He took my previous contract papers and $574 ( I got from the ATM) and said " why I couldn't get $100 bill instead?" I look at him and reply that's what I got from the ATM and I'm beyond stressed from the experience with the company. He then opened the truck and started to bring my things into my apartment and was placing in everything. In addition the truck was unorganized, stuff was not labeled correctly and they were being in boxes of other people stuff which I identified and refused immediately. He then again started putting things everywhere and I stopped him and told him where I wanted which he did for a short time then went back to placing thing everywhere. I unwrapped my furniture pieces and showed him the missing legs for my couch, console and broken queens size adjustable mattress base ( which I'm still paying for at Ashley home store). I'm missing a large picture frame and couple of things. He claimed "there's another truck in the area about 15 miles away and he's going to look for the box and will return to finish the moving" . He went ghost and never returned or called me back. I'm sleeping on a blow up mattress on the floor. My dinner table legs which they took off is still unattached and sooo much more.
I called the company multiple times before someone answered and said she will give my concerns to a supervisor.
I still haven't gotten a call back and I will proceed further because the missing and broken pieces and I didn't get the service I was promised.
I would never recommend this company.

Long-distance move from Denver, CO to Portland, OR

Great idea - bad in reality.

Long Distance Movers actually impressed me by their customer service, communication, and helpfulness when coordinating my move across the country. However, they chose the most incompetent, disrespectful company to move our things.. Cobra Van Lines. Please see the below review for more details on my moving experience:

Unbelievably horrific experience.. it's honestly hard to fathom that this company can exist in the US and still have a license. I had a smaller move across the country, with a pregnant wife in her third trimester who desperately needed a smooth move.. well, I failed to deliver (no pun intended). Let me start from the top:
- Reassured numerous times from the beginning that "it would take 5-10 business days, tops" to ship our goods. This was from Long Distance Movers salesmen and the movers when they showed up. I asked about the "21 business days" caveat on the contract, and they said that would be extremely rare.. well as I found out, this is standard practice. There is actually a clause in their contract saying "there is no obligation to abide by oral promises" or something of the like.
- After signing a preliminary contract to use weight, instead of cubic feet, I was nearly talked into paying by cubic feet, which would have been disastrous if you had seen how these guys load your goods. I stuck with weight, and ended up paying a fair price (if it had gotten there in 5-10 business days).
- The moving guys who picked up my goods were professional, prompt, and actually treated my things with respect.. as soon as they have your things loaded up, this is a different story.
- One week in, I called, and a sociopath (Charlie) answers the phone and acts like I am out of my mind for wondering where our things are, "AS ITS ONLY BEEN 7 DAYS! DO YOU WANT SOME KIND OF DISCOUNT OR SOMETHING, COME ON! I told you we have up to 21 business days (not including weekends or holidays)."
- 14 days in - I called, same response. "WE HAVE 21 BUSINESS DAYS, WE DON'T HAVE A DRIVER YET!"
- 21 days in - same response. "Theres a shortage of trucks.. be patient, it'll get there on time".
- 28 days in - same response. We are sleeping on a blow up air mattress, and my wife now has excruciating back pain from being 8 months pregnant.. not to mention the emotional turmoil of not being able to get ready for baby given we don't have a single item in the house.
- Several more calls reveal that they "might be loading up your things soon".
- 32 days in - FINALLY get a call that there is a delivery time.. less than 24 hours before drop-off. A little more heads up would have been nice, given we both work full-time.
- Delivery day - what should/could have been a sigh of relief. Two guys, who look like they've been lost in the tundra on ice-road truckers roll out of the car, and literally hurl my things out of the truck on the ground. Had me sign a contract that had "Expedia Van Lines" crossed off the top with Cobra Van Lines written in. Nearly EVERY item they moved was damaged.. this is no exaggeration. Coffee table edges beat up, bookshelf completely destroyed (broken in multiple places and looks like Mike Tyson chewed on the sides of it), baby rocker (destroyed.. doesn't rock at all), TV stand scratched all over, brand new couch - huge rip on the back corner and the feet were severely scratched - looks like a saber tooth tiger had a snack, side tables - all broken or scratched, antique jewelry dresser - the guy walks in and says, "Do you have a drill or something? The leg must have broken off of this thing." I had a drill.. and I had to replace the leg, among other things. Bar stools - beat up with scratches literally on every corner. Nearly every box was smashed in with huge holes in one. Nice cooler for camping - arm broken off, nowhere to be found. And they left it laying on my neighbors doorstep when they left. Very nice trash cans that we got as a wedding gift - looks like it endured a hail storm.
- I have never seen someone treat another person's good with complete wreckless abandon - tossing boxes, things falling out and rolling on the ground, dropping dressers, chairs falling over onto concrete.. you get the picture.
- The only things that weren't broken/destroyed/scratched, were those that I put in my car.. and my toothbrush (bravo!). I was actually more impressed by there ability to damage every single item in the house.. this must take a lot of practice and skill.
- The delivery guy was also very pushy with adding a tip, which got annoying, consider I was told numerous times that "tip was included" in the price by Long Distance Movers salesmen. I guess I would act the same way if I was contracted out by the one and only, Charlie.

Conclusion - Long distance movers is an exorbitantly priced broker that has absolutely no control over the actual movers themselves. In essence, they extract from the moving process with little to no added value, and use cut-rate, bottom of the barrel carriers to move goods to maximize profits.

Long-distance move from Illinois to California

Disappointing.

If I could give them less stars I would. I have been fighting with a wall for almost 2 months now. NO ONE returns my emails or calls. My stuff came broken, late and missing! This company was organized with TRIPLE CROWN MOVING, TX. Both gave me the run around during the move and process. In the beginning, fantastic quick, friendly, and very helpful. HA HA once they got their money they DO NOT speak to you again. Beware! Be careful! Sad and disappointing world we live in. I was just trying to move back home after 9 yrs for a little bit! Being gone that long was great but life is not cheap. I was a civilian working for the military and I thought I could trust these companies to handle my treasures, my belongings, seriously just respect til the end but they got their money and ghosted. Gross!

Long-distance move from Arlington, VA to Houston, TX

Do Not Hire This Company.

I hired this company to move my things from Arlington, VA to Houston, TX following a career change. I had worked out the days that the items would be picked up and the days that the items would then be dropped off in Houston. I was flying there myself so I wanted to ensure that I would be there for the arrival of my belongings, and also make sure that I set my start date for work after I had my things. The day that my belongings were supposed to arrive I did not receive a phone call, so I contacted my driver with the number that I was given upon pick-up. When I called a man answered and responded with "hey baby". Regardless of if he had thought that I was someone else or not..this was an unknown number on his phone..and if you're a professional you may want to ensure that you know who you are talking to before saying things like this. He then proceeded to hand the phone to someone else who informed me that my belongings would not be arriving that day. So, I had asked when it was likely that I would receive these items. The response: "Not Sure. Maybe a week". Excuse me? They couldn't even tell me where the truck was. So here I am after moving halfway across the country by myself with none of my things and no idea when or if I may get them. FINALLY my items arrived..3 weeks after I had moved to Texas. The 1-year old Smart TV that I had paid to have them package was completely shattered..with no apologies, an entire box of my clothing had been soaking in what I really hope was water, old barn windows that I had were broken, one dresser has a 8 inch long scratch down the side, multiple pictures had their frames broken and one painting, done by my grandfather, had the frame broken and was so water saturated that it had to be thrown out. When I called them and also submitted claims regarding the damages I had received an offer of $35. $35!! This was by far the most unprofessional, unacceptable, and despicable moving company that I have ever heard of. PLEASE save yourself the trouble and hire seriously anyone else..or even better..move yourself and save yourself the frustration, damages, and money.

Long-distance move from Louisville, KY to Berkeley, CA

Negligent, Disrespectful Liars.

I wish I could give 0 stars.

Recently, I used the broker company Long Distance Movers to move my belongings from Louisville, KY to Berkeley, CA. For at least part of the shipping, they used Encore Moving and Storage. I have been in contact with them to let them know what a horrible mistake it is to ever do business with Encore, and to file claims for damages to my property. Not only did they charge me excessive fees that were not part of the original moving estimate, ($350 to shuttle my belongings to my apartment, another $100 because of a "walking fee") and not only did they deliver my stuff well after 9:00 PM on a weekday WELL after the 7-10 days they estimated, but they did so before even showing me the terrible condition of my belongings.

This is not the "normal" or "reasonable" damage one may encounter in a cross-country move. The damage to these boxes was, at the very least, totally negligent, and at most, intentionally criminal. I say this, because the deliverer who dropped these unacceptably damaged boxes off at my apartment actually attempted to buy one of my books from me; this, to me, is a clear indication that the deliverers were rummaging through my belongings. Obviously, this is a total invasion of my privacy and my property. At least one large item, a piano bench, is totally missing. I am absolutely disgusted. I am contemplating contacting a lawyer, and/or the police.

Long Distance Movers should never have associated with this moving company; I had no say in which companies they decided to use. Anyone with an internet connection can see the abysmal reviews on Yelp, on MyMovingReviews, and the Better Business Bureau.

Of the things damaged in my move:

1. Priceless family heirlooms, dishes that belonged to my grandmother's grandmother.
2. Art work and picture frames
3. over a hundred books
4. collectible comic books
5. kitchen appliances, including a food processor
6. a printer
7. a piano bench is totally missing
8. Business suits and dress clothes

The only response so far is a complete diversion of responsibility, other than saying I can file claims for damages ($0.60 per pound per dollar). Do not EVER use this moving company, unless you want your property completely destroyed and disrespected. Clearly, this moving company has no business handling anyone's property. They are negligent criminals, or at least do business with them.

Long-distance move from Macomb, MI to Cape Coral, FL

Bait and switch.

Long distance movers llc deserves 0 starts

I contacted them to move from Michigan to Florida for $1500. They said price would not move. 3 days before moving they increased the price to $2500. Also they told us we would only be able to take 1/2 the stuff we told them we planned to take. I couldn’t back out because they had my $1000 deposit. I dreadfully agreed because we were stuck. The day of their appointment they said it would be between 8am to noon. 5pm came and they finally answered our call to let us know they could be there at 9pm. We told them to forget it and were only able to recoup $400 of the $1000 we gave them.

Stay away and save your money.

Long-distance move from Marion, OH to Surprise, AZ

Shady Business.

This was the worst experience I’ve ever endured conducting business with any company. These people are here to take your money and destroy and lose your belongings. They say what you want to hear at the beginning and make it seem very personable but once you’ve invested your initial payment it goes down hill from there. They quoted me $2,000 less than what I had to pay to just get the stuff they didn’t destroy or lose back. They do not hold themselves responsible for lost or damaged goods so you are out of luck with the stuff you worked hard to pay for. I feel cheated and robbed by these people. Never again will I use them I wish I could give them zero stars.

Long-distance move from Cincinnati, OH to Denver, CO

AWFUL! Hard to work with, tiny payout for major damage.

This is a garbage company, do not use under any circumstances.

They contract your move out to multiple other companies, and then each company will find ways to nickle and dime you. During the initial quote, I read off all the things in my house, and they provided a quote. Since the list was 75+ items long, I didn't realize they had listed left off a few key things, that then elevated the price considerably.

On delivery, they showed up in a 13 foot tall, 75 foot truck (significantly bigger than the one for pickup) and then charged me for the long carry as a result of nothing being able to get close to the front door and the driver was mad about not having a dedicated space for the truck.
- They state the first 75 feet of carry is free, but since my stuff was in the front of the truck, the 75 free feet ran out *at the end of the truck*.
- Multiple pieces of furniture were missing, and more was damaged. My coffee tables were smashed from the weight of things put on top of them when they stacked them in the truck. Other things were scratched and cracked, but you won't get any settlement for those since they claim they are "still usable".
- The settlement took nearly 4 months to complete after the move, which means your broken furniture has to sit in a closet somewhere until they finish.
- Unless you purchase the very very expensive insurance, your stuff will be insured at only $0.60 per pound -- And then they'll reduce the claimed weight of everything that's broken, to reduce your settlement even further. I claimed over 700lbs of furniture damaged in my settlement, they claimed that only 215 of it counted and offered to pay me $129. The $129 doesn't even cover the TV stand they lost, much less the broken coffee tables, scratches and cracks on everything .

Would recommend against using under any circumstances! You can find someone better!

Long-distance move from Roanoke, VA to Dallas, TX

Worst moving experience.

I have moved nearly every year for the past 10 years of my life. Without a doubt, Long Distance Movers has caused this move to be the worst moving experience of my life. I had arranged the service nearly a month in advance and gave a delivery date window. The movers did not show up to my place in Virginia until 3 days before they were supposed to be in Dallas, nearly 1200 miles away. The delivery window given to me was 11am-1pm and I took a half day off work. The movers did not show up until 830pm and did not finish the move until nearly 11pm. As for delivery, it has been 6 days since the agreed upon delivery and I still do not have my things. I have called 5 times with someone saying they'll get back to me and I have not heard anything regarding the status of my belongings. I have been at my new place without a bed to sleep in for over a week. Stay away from this service. They are contractors that just take your money and don't care about the customer at all afterwards. There were changes in fees and various extra charges. STAY AWAY!

Long-distance move from North Carolina to California

They don't tell you they are a broker.

They are not the actual movers. I contacted them when I thought the estimate I got from Mayflower was too high. They were very accommodating on the phone and I felt reassured that I would get a better deal for a cross-country move. There was a lot of communication at the beginning, and the price kept inching up. Still I stuck with them. We set the date and I spoke with a person who then put me in touch with the actual movers. I was very surprised and disappointed. The actual movers showed up on a Mon for what was supposed to be a Thurs/Fri pickup from the week before. The excuse was a truck broke down in TX. Then, they didn't have any of the packing materials I had contracted for and a friend if mine had to drive them to a U-Haul place to pick up boxes, etc. They said it was because they weren't the original guys who were supposed to pack me up. Remember the truck that broke down in TX! I did have a lot of stuff and the guys worked very hard and kept a great attitude, too. I signed off on pages and pages of paperwork and didn't realize until the delivery that they had charged me full price for the packing materials they didn't have and which they improvised a lot of. And then they were a week late delivering, although I was assured they did tell me 3 weeks and not the 10-14 days I heard. My stuff rattled around on a hot truck for three weeks and thousands of miles! Long, long story short, the guys who showed up were great, but the overall service rendered by Long Distance Movers and the van line they contracted to were terrible. I ended up paying what Mayflower estimated, for very poor service. JUST DON'T!!

Long-distance move from Madison, WI to Sausalito, CA

Long Distance Movers, Inc.

This outfit is not professional. They told me that they would do the moving themselves, reneged on their binding estimate, and changed the terms of the contract whenever they felt like it. They subcontracted with Best Price Moving and Storage, and they subcontracted with Hamsa Transport, who hired people off the street on both ends. The Best Price dispatcher told me that Long Distance Movers, Inc regularly lies to their customers. The people disassembling and packing your personal belongings are not the same people who unload the truck and feign to reassemble things on the other end. The hired street people and the subcontractors don't care what they break and they are not bonded. Long Distance Movers, Inc does not intend to reassemble your things or finish the job on the other end. Again, the subcontracted subcontractor hires homeless on the other end to unload your belongings and they are forced to abandon the job because Long Distance Movers Inc subcontracts to New Jersey thugs, Hamsa Transport, who take your cash and run. Oh! Did Long Distance Movers, Inc tell you that you can use a credit card on the other end? They lied again. In addition, I asked for a re-weigh which they were legally bound to give, but the driver refused. I also paid an additional $300 to have my motorcycle transported door to door. Hamsa Transport did not rent a big enough U-Haul on this end to handle my bike, so I rode it from San Francisco to Sausalito.

Long-distance move from Buffalo, NY to Richmond, VA

Bad service.

I found this company online and then received a call from Jeff. The initial quote he gave to me is $5800 ( in case for any items missed, l added 1000lb more). Four days prior to moving day, a guy name Eric called me and asked me to revisit the inventory and he increased the price to $8900. I refused to accept the deal but If I do so, they won't refund my deposit. I was cornered and accepted the deal. The mover came to my house yesterday with 2hrs delay. After they loaded all my stuff to his truck, he asked for $11200! I was totally shocked! I asked him to go through the inventory, checking which items are not on the list. Indeed, the final items we loaded on his truck are less than the ones on the quote, e.g., 5 extra large boxes (see attached photos). In addition, I ordered door to door service but I packed many stuff by myself. I refused to sign the bill and called the customer service. A lady told me someone will call me in minutes but nobody has called me back. And then, the driver asked me to talk to his boss from the company. The guy was screaming to me on the phone. Later I called the customer service again and she couldn't find either his name or phone number. Now the driver began to dump my packages on ground. It was almost middle night and there are 4 guys in my house. I was scared and agreed to pay $9500. Then the driver asked me to pay the half balance in cash or the full amount in check. I refused to do so, and then the guy began to scream to me, spilling dirty words out of his mouth. I am almost ready to dial 911. My neighbor heard the noise and came over to my house. Finally the driver agreed to accept check. Instead of paying his company, he asked me to write a check to a person ( an Arabic name). Once again, I refused and he began to scream again. Finally, he asked me to write a $1000 check to his company and pay the rest balance on delivery. It was a nightmare! My neighbor witnessed what happened last night. I am thinking to hire a lawyer to sue your company and the mover in case more customers will be cheated and hurt.

Long-distance move from Pittsburgh, PA to Chicago, IL

Serious lack of communication-would NOT recommend.

This company is simply a middle-man. I stood not recommend them unless you want to cry yourself to sleep from the stress they put you under.
This is my first time hiring a moving company. I originally spoke to one man (Scott) in the beginning of June and explained to him that I'm moving from what is technically the third floor of an apartment building. He never provided any information about charges for stairs, and he says he'll be with me through every stage of the move. Fast forward to the week before my move (Tuesday, 7 days before) and I call Scott again, only to be told he'd call me back. Four days pass and eventually I get a phone call from Heidi (on Saturday), someone I'd never spoken to. She updates my estimate and inventory list, as there had been some changes. Within 2 hours of our phone call, I sent an email with an additional item and the dimensions for that item. I sent that email as a direct reply to the email address that had sent me my estimate. No reply. Two days later (at this point it's Monday), I got a phone call from Annie (who I'd never heard from before) telling me what day to expect the movers and that she'd call me back the following day to confirm the time. Annie did not go over the email that she sent me because I didn't have access to my email at the time that she called me. When I spoke to Nancy on Thursday, she told me I was supposed to have been informed about charges pertaining to stairs, etc. when Annie called.
When my movers actually arrived, they had an incorrect inventory list. They had the list that Scott had made in the beginning of June! I called Long Distance Movers 3 times because I wanted to show the movers my copy of the inventory but I couldn't access it, and each time I was told someone would call me back (they didn't, thus the repeat calls). Eventually someone emailed me a copy of it and sent me a text message with no identification of who they were.
When my movers arrived (Wednesday), I had no idea that they weren't actually from Long Distance Movers. They were from another company that had been hired before. They packed everything and charged me for the "extra" cubic feet that included the item that I had emailed Heidi about on Saturday. On Thursday, I called the phone number for Eric, which was listed on my estimate. He said he didn't know how I got his phone number because he'd never spoken to me before. I said it was what was provided on my estimate. He said he didn't know why and proceeded to transfer me to customer service, where I spoke to Nancy. Apparently no one had even bothered to look at my emails, despite them being sent 1. Within 2 hours of a phone call and 2. To the email address provided on my actual estimate.
I explained to Nancy what happened. She said Scott should have incorporated three stairs charges if I'd told him about them, and she didn't really have anything to say about the emails that had gone unanswered. I also told her that I should have been provided with the information (fees, prices, etc) about the company that they selected as my servicer beforehand. I didn't even know who they were contacting me out to (let alone that they were doing that) until the driver showed up and told me to sign paperwork and I saw the header on his papers.
She flat out asked what I expect her to do about this. I told her what I wanted and she said she'd write it up and take it to her manager. I said I expected to hear from someone later that day (Thursday, it was 9:30am at the time of our call). She said okay, someone will call me back. It's Saturday. No one has contacted me yet.
Because of their lack of communication, the cost of my move has gone up almost $600. I had to ask my parents for money because of that increase. I've shortened my story, but there's more involving extra fees they added because they couldn't find a driver (and a fight over who's paying for that). Please contact me for more information.
