Jake's Moving & Storage LLC

  I had a very bad experience with this company. We experienced, lateness ,unprofessionalism, no standard of care, lack of care in handling our furniture, damages to furniture and damages to the walls of our new house.  The problem was not as much with the low estimate (and indeed they gave me a low estimate although I had given them a comprehensive inventory)  as it was about the fact the movers were not real professional and damaged our goods. They did not put protective pads on furniture and banged them on the walls of the new house (which made holes and dents on walls) while transporting them. Their truck was a Uhaul truck that anyone can rent at the corner of the street, the truck broke, we stayed one entire hour waiting for the truck to be serviced by Uhaul. The furniture were damaged. My sofa ripped. The furniture were unproperly mounted, the sectional sofa, after they reassembled it, was wobbly,  and the bed not mounted properly, the mattress would not hold in place on wood slates and fell on floor.. My brand new wood floor was scratched.. etc the list of damages is long.  The 3 men were not professional movers. There was no real manager on duty, a man called Christian said he was the manager but he was inefficient and gave no clear directions to the crew. The sales woman ( lisa)  had told me they would protect my new floor in the new house by using pads, but the crew showed up with NO protective supplies at all. The manager was against taking apart furniture ( as obviously its a lot of work to dissasemble ) and instead they tried to get big furniture to go through the doors.. and of course it was not happening. Meanwhile they damaged the furniture when trying to do so.  Two shelves of library were lost, we never found them. I cannot describe everything it will be too long, but it was the worst move ever.  I wonder how those 5 stars were given in the past??  Clearly they had very unprofessional people who were at work that day, and NOT real movers . It seemed they had hired some random people who just went to pick a rental truck, and basically tried to get done as fast as possible but in the process damaged my belongings and my new house. We contacted them about those issues but they provided insufficient response, as they did not provide us with any sort of compensation for the damages caused to our furniture (although they clearly adverstised the furniture were covered by insurance)   Use at your own risks.. it may be cheaper than other companies,  but, believe me,  you may lose a lot more money than the price you were quoted for the move.

My husband and I had several large pieces of furniture to relocate in our own home and Jake's Moving & Storage came and did it all! They carefully taped and secured everything and made the process so much easier. It was really nice not to have to do it ourselves. Plus, we had a few pieces that we were giving to other family members and Jake's Moving & Storage delivered the items to our family members. We will definitely use them again in the future!

I hired Jake's Moving and Storage for my recent move.. and it was simply, one of the best choices I have ever made, in my adulthood life!! They came highly recommended by a good friend of my, so I was truly fortunate. Their price was fair, and reasonable. I was simply overwhelmed for the extra care, and attention to details demonstrate constantly throughout my entire move, by the wonderful and dedicated crew. Those guys..were the "Real Deal"! The movers were very pleasant to deal with, they came highly motivated, and got the Job done, within my estimated time frame..I have to admit, these guy are true professionals..they assembled my kids bunk-bed, and my Master Bedroom set at No Time!!Highly recommended, will definitely use them again on my next move!!

I had a move that there was a couple of weeks difference between my pickup and delivery days. They were able to would around my schedule and store my stuff till the delivery date. When they picked up my items, they were quick and made sure all of my items were packed properly. When I received my delivery, once again they were quick to unload the truck and reassemble my furniture. All of the boxes I received and the items inside were just like how they were packed. Excellent work from them all.

Service cost: $3000

John's moving team is simply superb! They worked to coordinate my schedule and the team arrived on time.  With their professionalism, they immediately start packing for me as soon as they arrived. It happened that I got so much stuff to move that they had to keep hard working for more than 10 hours to get the job done.  While myself was exhausted yet their team still kept the positive attitude and smiling face! Especially when a piece of my furniture was stuck in the elevator of my former residence, they secured it overnight there and made a separate trip to send it over to me! An excellent team with very impressive professional spirit. Five stars. Highly recommended!    .

This is our "3rd" time doing business with Jake's Moving.  They showed up on time, wear their company t-shirts. The crew: Shimon (owner), Manuel and Abelino are professoinal and efficient. Furniture were carefully packed,moved,unpacked and assembled in the assigned rooms.  Keeping good communications. Moving Truck is clean and well organized. Price is very reasonable.  Great follow up customer service. Result: satisfied customers, will hire them next time. Highly recommended to people. .

My husband and I are senior citizens and moved out of a 3rd floor, 2 bedroom condo to a 3 bedroom duplex (all one level).  So the guys had to take lots of furniture down almost 3 flights of stairs which had curves in it.  Also, they took everything apart, wrapped it really well and just did a great job.  They were very efficient and very careful with all items.  They were super nice and ask questions if they weren't certain where things were going.  When we got to the duplex - they unwrapped everything and put in the places that I designated.  It worked like clockwork. They were so very efficient and it only took from about 5-6 hours from start to total moved into the new place.  It was great for us.  We would definitely choose them again and recommend them. .

Movers arrived on time, took a look around then decided that they could not do the job because the truck was too small and it would take longer than discussed.  They changes the price from what was contracted and told me it was going to take two trucks and each truck would be 1000.00 dollars.  I was sad and hurt, knowing that I would not be able to pay that price.  I had given the update of the amount of items and number of bedrooms via phone to the company person, (L).  She changed the amount of time from 4 hours to 6 hours to accommodate the change in bedrooms, however this information was not relayed to the crew that came to do the move.  Movers took items back off truck and cancelled the job.  I had to beg them them to conduct my move because I had to be out of my place.  They put in the truck what they could take and left everything else for me to figure out how to get to my new home.  My daughter was crying thinking that we were not going to be able to move.  It was the most stressful situation I had ever been in ever with moving. My furniture was moved but I have been going back and forth for 5 more days trying to get the rest of the things out of the house in my car. They were professional at packing the furniture but I believe that everything did not need to be wrapped and taped.  It was a way to increase the time since I was charged per hour.  Some pieces were broken even with the wrapping and my couch no longer sits level which was never a problem after 17 years.  Also a handle was broken off a very expensive piece of furniture that is unable to be fixed. I would not use them again because the communication was bad, the price changed and the crew was very hurtful telling me that "we are not doing this for that price, take everything off the truck, we are leaving".

Several weeks after my move, I was contacted by someone who identified as the "supervising manager" at Jake's Moving & Storage - not the supervisor that I had worked with on the day of the move.    He indicated that he had seen my reviews and apologized that I had a bad experience. He also asked if I would be willing to remove the review. He indicated that the supervisor who was evasive and intimidating was having "the worst day of his life" and is usually highly rated in reviews. He also indicated that the foreman who was so inappropriate with me was a contractor and not a direct employee of the company and claimed they do not plan to work with that particular contractor again. He stated that the other two workers are permanent employees of the company and not picked up at a 7-11 that day. He provided reasons why the truck was 4 hours late, the foreman was incompetent, and the supervisor was unkind. He was very nice and the conversation was pleasant, but he did indicate more than once that they would like the review removed.   I gave it some careful consideration. I cannot say one way or another who is telling the truth in this situation as I do not know any of these people, and all of their accounts of the day and who is at fault are contradictory. I would have no way of knowing how often they are late, how often the truck breaks down, if the supervisor is usually more professional/less intimidating, or if the foreman is still working with the company. Either way, everything I stated in my original review really happened, and if the explanation I was provided is not true or contractors are generally just not well-vetted by this company - it could easily happen to someone else in the future. I apologize, but the review stands.

The three professionals that came to my home did a great job packing and caring for my items. This was my first time to hire movers on my own and was quite apprehensive having strangers coming to my home and touching my items. But after meeting the professionals, I was comfortable. The professionals arrived on time. After moving all of my items out of my apartment, they even cleaned up! I was not expecting that. There was no damage to my apartment after we moved things out. They really were careful with my things and took the time to ensure not to damage walls or doors of both of my apartments. The professionals started at 9:30 a.m. and finished packing, moving, and unpacking by 6 p.m. I was even more amazed that Shimone went out of his way to fix my dining table that I broke months ago. I cannot even express how great the professionals were. While there was misccommunication with someone in their office after the move, Jake's business manager personally called me up to clarify and thank me for my business. This made all the difference. Thank you Jake's for the wonderful and professional customer service.

We moved from a 2 BR apt to another 2 BR apt.  We received a phone call five minutes before the crew's arrival, asking us if they could come a half hour early.  Great!  They got there and got right to business.  We had 55 steps up the apartment we moved out of, and 55 more steps at the apartment we moved into to.  These guys never stopped the whole time.  I even bought them lunch and they did not take a bite until the move was complete.  They wrapped everything neatly and broke down our furniture without ruining any of it.  They even removed our light bulbs from our lamps and wrapped the bulbs!  Jeff was friendly and helped speak on behalf of the crew and owner, when the owner was preoccupied, which was very helpful.  They all had a great attitude even when you knew they were completely exhausted from all the steps.  The price ended up being twice the amount of what we were quoted, however the price was just an estimate.  It took the crew twice as long to complete the job and they worked non-stop.  Shimon allowed us to add 30-40 boxes as well as a patio set and never charged us extra for it.

DISCLAIMER: I have never written a review in my life. On anything. Any I'm in the customer service business. So the fact that I'm logged onto this site writing one means the service was beyond amazing.

I was moving from my apartment in DC while working with another moving company. I have a couple of large Restoration Hardware items (Sofa) that they were unable to get out of the building.

In a panic, I googled couch dissembly/reassembly in DC. I called John from Jake's movers Sunday at noon. I told him the issue. He said that if I was able to get the couch into the building he could get it out. He and his guy met me at my apartment with a truck and all the tools needed to re-wrap my couch. He was there within 2 hours.

I kid you not, he got the couch out in 10 minutes while being on the phone. He then moved it for me in his truck a mile down the road and had the tools and skill to take off the living room window of my new apartment to get this huge beast of a couch directly into the living room. Most movers would have looked at the hallway and just given up.. John and his team literally acted like moving consultants and came up with a solution that worked perfectly. They were handy enough to take apart a window and put it back together in minutes.

There is NO WAY any other moving company would have even thought to do any of this. This was literally some of the best service I've received. Like in general. Not just from movers. I will never call another moving company again and will forever be referring these guys to others in DC. John and his team are actual pro's. I've moved a bunch of times throughout the years and I've never seen someone actually make an art of doing the job.

Just to re-iterate. These guys got an 8ft monster of a Restoration Hardware couch out of an insanely skinny stairwell and improvised enough to get it into my next apartment. I literally had Craigslist up to get ready to sell this couch because everyone said I wouldn't be able to get it in my new place.

Thanks again, John. You saved me on my moving day. Too bad I didn't find your info sooner. I won't make that mistake again.

We are an event company and one of our events required us to move a clients irreplaceable antiques from their offices to the event space. Jakes did a great job at instructing all their staff on safe handling of these 1910 architect original furniture and we made the move to the event and back with no damage.
They came with all the padding and wrapping required moved up and downstairs in one location and with a balky freight elevator on another.
As a VP at Encore Decor I personally supervise the moving of these antiques and have for 3 moves. This year with Jakes is the only move where there was no damage.
There prices were right in line with what we have been paying other movers too.

Simon and his crew arrived at my apt in the time confirmed and went straight to work! Simon was very personable and ensured that my furniture was treated with care. I had a platform bed which Simon dismantled and put back together himself. As the crew leader he could've simply supervised but he jumped in and helped to make sure the move remained timely. Each and every fragile piece I owned was individually wrapped with care. Upon arriving to my new home they put pads down so as not to ruin my hardwood flooring. Again, as soon as the truck was parked the went straight to work never taking a break. My move took close to 5 hours and was tedious as I own an 82 in tv, a platform bed, and 2 65 in tvs all of which were wrapped in padding. At the end of the move the movers still has a smile and pleasant demeanor. They made a stressful time so much easier. I will readily recommend them. When you call I hope you get John on the phone, his expertise is astounding and he is a joy to speak with he makes you feel like family. Give them a try.
