My family and I were very impressed by the friendly, courteous, professional service provided for my downsizing transition and move. From the very first call, to the move itself ( in heavy rain,) excellent service was consistently provided. I had a targeted goal of 3 hours for the move, and Jake's crew carefully wrapped, moved, and placed the furniture within 3 hours to the minute. They were careful and professionally accommodating at all times; which both reduced my stress level, and kept me on budget. Thank you for everything, your service is exceptional!

I had found this company via Yelp where it had gotten excellent reviews. I contacted the company and then had to change the date. No problem. On the promised date the truck and three men arrived on time on the dot. They had estimated three hours for the move, but had everything packed and on the truck in just about two. They also graciously moved couches exactly to my mother's specifications and had the job completed again in record time. I was very impressed by the professionalism and care of this company and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They did an excellent job and thank you Jake's moving and storage for an excellent job.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $600

These folks came highly recommended by a family friend, they were exactly as he described them. They're priced favorably and deal honestly, -non of the common surprise hidden fees you often get from service companies. I dealt with John on the phone who was very pleasant and clear, most important he was accommodating to my particular moving requests.Their moving staff are hard working and protect your furniture well, yet they don't waste time overdoing it. I would certainly recommend them to anyone including close friends.

From my initial phone contact all the way through to paying the bill, this company was professional, committed to great service and provided an excellent customer experience. No surprises, no hidden costs, no last minute charges. Everything was exactly as explained on my initial phone call. The movers were professional, polite, and knowledgeable about their work. No slowing down to pad a bill. They were great. No damages to anything. Highly recommend Jake’s for your moving needs. You won’t be disappointed.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $915

We needed to have a granite table top weighing about 200 pounds moved from a basement apartment up two flights of stairs to our dining room. It was too heavy for us to move, especially up the step steps from the basement. Called Jake's on a Sunday morning; they returned my call Sunday afternoon and by Sunday evening had made arrangements for 2 men to come by Monday afternoon to do the job. They arrived promptly at the scheduled time and completed the work in about 15 minutes. They were very professional. While they weren't cheap, I felt it was well worth the cost. I didn't want to damage my back or the table top trying to move it myself. Would definitely recommend Jake's Moving and Storage for this kind of in-house moving job.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $450

Was not pleased with the price - $975 for a one-bedroom move that was less than 8 miles away (literally the same city, and no DC traffic). I've moved a one bedroom from Baltimore County to DC for $930, but due to work travel, lack of availability for my moving date and frankly time, I went with Jake's. They do not provide an itemized list (I asked), and initially John was not clear about where the price was coming from (there was no price list on the website or breakdown in the quote). He made sure to mention the overage fee several times ($200 plus for every half hour over the allotted 4-hr move time) and eventually indicated the price was $200/hr per mover (3), plus labor, only after my fiance called. Overall - John felt very salesman-like and kept emphasizing these were "professional movers"..is there some sort of certification I am unaware of?

My stated window was 9-10AM, the "professional" movers showed up at 11, and one smelled atrocious and didn't have on the uniform/t-shirt. Based on this and the three names crossed off my bill of lading, it appeared several people didn't show up to work and a friend or family member was called in at the last minute to substitute.

Once they arrived, the head mover was friendly, answered any questions I had and they worked efficiently. They took care wrapping my larger furniture and did a great job unpacking.

PLEASE BEWARE* There is a 5% fee to pay for the bill with the credit card on file - there is a $100 deposit required. While this was on the bottom of the quote, I overlooked it and was charged an additional $48. Yes, this was my fault, however I had multiple conversations with John regarding the price and somehow this additional fee never came up. Had I have known this in advance, I definitely would've gotten a cashier's check or money order.

Overall the move was fine and completed within the allotted time. My issue was more with John than the actual movers - who did a good job; therefore, I personally wouldn't use them again and would only refer them with the aforementioned caveats.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1024

We'd had stuff loaded into a truck and drove it ourselves up to a storage facility and then unloaded for a month during an out of state move where we had some lag time prior to moving into our house. Decided to go with full service movers for the end of the craziness and found Jake's. They were able to book me five days out when the previous owners decided to rent back for a few days less and they did a great and careful job moving our items.

They did show up a little later than initially hoped, but they had to drive right through DC rush hour traffic so I think it was more because of that. They were able to get the job done in the estimated amount of time, however, I definitely did have them leave some of the boxes at the end in the garage to avoid overages. Our situation was a little unique though since loading the truck took longer than anyone would have thought with the storage units being on the other side of the loading dock and the uncooperative storage facility not allowing us to use a convenient door.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1200

This experience was horrible, resulting in 2 additional days of unauthorized charges, verbally abusive language from the manager, and scam behavior from company. Contracted for 6 hours/1 day (1-bed apartment of items, some bulk furniture to trash on-site). Loading dock scheduled 2pm, destination 5pm. Moving day=driver called apprx 1230 to request earlier destination load time due to being finished first job early, and not needing full time. Movers showed up around 2, continuously stated on-time throughout day. Approx. 5pm received destination notice loading dock closed at 7, movers could take additional time once in. Driver confirmed adequate time to arrive by 7 with all items, was told to prioritize moving stuff, not bulk trash, if necessary. Movers began moving slow, shuffling items around, moving different piles (I had back injury, but began moving items quickly down to elevator and truck, leaving items). Driver finished ¾ loading, barely made 7pm dock, stated would finish job (needing additional hour) that week. Writer confirmed second move date with driver (scheduled for 2pm on second day, NOT TOLD WOULD BE CHARGED), driver clearly notified destination dock closed at 7, and received assurance there was ample time, was only additional hour of work.
Day 2-HORRIBLE. Received text from driver that move was scheduled, but additional paperwork required from main office (no contract, just confirmation of what they were finishing). Unable to reach manager throughout the day, getting panicked (received continuous texts from driver scheduled for 2). Took day off, moved items/trash with back injury, waited all day. Finally reached manager at 2pm, who was hostile and condescending. HOSTILE OR UNPROFFESSIONAL REMARKS= minimum charge of 4 hours per day, even if drivers only needed 1, Second date to finish a move was not guaranteed, manager does not have to do business if he doesn’t feel like it, and that no coordination between driver and this writer should have taken place without deferring to the manager for approval. Manager emphasized multiple times that he was in charge, didn’t appreciate being disrespected by having the movers coordinate without him, that he would require double the fee for the second move date (DISPUTED, DID NOT AGREE, CONTINUED TO STATE THEY WERE FINISHING ORIGINAL JOB WITH 1 ADDITIONAL HOUR). Emphasized he was clearly delaying and dragging out job, concerned items wouldn’t be moved. Manager stated he would send email confirming move, then comments like “you don’t have an iphone to check your email?” “You can’t figure out how to check email?”. Call was closed after manager stating he would send email and confirm with drivers.
At 430pm, still no movers, unable to reach manager, very panicked. Manager finally answered while in store, yelling so loudly through phone I had to leave. COMMENTS FROM MANAGER= “don’t have to do business when being disrespected” “don’t have to do business with a woman who couldn’t even coordinate a loading dock time” “not required to do business with a woman who spoke in a disrespectful tone to him”. Manager hung up several times after stating he was in charge, did not have to do business with anyone being disrespectful to him, and that he wouldn’t be “talked over by a woman who couldn’t even set up a loading dock time”. Manager finally agreed to send drivers after multiple distressed calls, again…NO CONTRACT SIGNED OR VERBAL AGREEMENT OF MINIMUM CHARGE. Driver continuously texting they were arriving soon, ample time to finish. Texted driver, who indicated they were running late, but would be able to fully finish the job.
Relayed interaction with manager to drivers, who stated he had multiple issues in past, doesn’t like being “disrespect” by people going over his head, and to ignore his yelling, they would get items out. They began moving in such inefficient and slow manner (despite constant prompts and my assistance (such as hauling small items one by one instead of loading carts of items). Mover stated they were running behind because manager hadn’t had paperwork prepared and they got late start. Contacted manager over concerns that truck STILL WASN’T LOADED at 6pm. Manager stated again “movers aren’t robots, they are tired, no guarantee of how fast they will move”, that the only way to ensure finishing in one day was to be the first move on the books, and that could also take two days if they were tired, and stated that given the 7pm loading dock time, a clear 3rd day with a minimum 4 hour charge would be required. Manager stated again he did not have to do business with anyone disrespecting him, they would keep items overnight for hourly charge. Finally agreeing this was ridiculous, and to delivery. 3rd day-equally insane. Attempted shuffling items to drag out time, I refused to sign contract or agree to additional work. Was charged for 3 days (1,440 over), additional lease dates at first location, and 3 days off work. HORRIBLE.
