Long-distance move from Ohio to Massachusetts

The best part of a stressful situation.

My company offered me a job out of state in MA. Although the change was a welcome one, with a family, and short notice, I had no idea how I would pull it off. I had less than a month to find a place to live in my new state, register my kids for school, pack up the house, and go. I had only moved locally in the past, and did it myself. That was stressful enough since I HATE driving a moving truck and I had not moved since having kids. The company I work for suggested I use Great American Van Lines. I am so thankful!! They were able to pack up my home while I took care of the more important things. I had my life taken care of while not worrying about wrapping the dishes and labeling boxes. We were able to drive our own cars to our new home and start living. We brought what we needed and they brought everything else. I expected there to be delays and broken or scratched furniture. They got to our new home on time with no issues. They unpacked the truck as though the stuff inside was theirs. They were fast but not careless. Believe me, I watched their every move!! There were no damages to the boxes or furniture and as we unpacked, everything was as it was when it was packed. Absolutely satisfied with the service. They were well above our expectations. I hope to not have to move again anytime soon, but if I do I am calling Great American Van Lines again. .

Long-distance move from Connecticut to Georgia

Trustworthy Service.

Great American Van Lines handled my entire move from CT to GA without hassle.  Everything arrived on time, in perfect condition, and packaged correctly.  A friend of the family previously sent me to this company after they used them for a move from North Carolina to Florida.  I was nervous using a new company to completely move all of my things.  But I am so glad I trusted this company.  They loaded, delivered, and unloaded everything in a timely fashion and all for $3468.   Not only were they affordable for everything they did, They made the whole process stress free.  Very professional and responsible company to entrust your items to be moved safely.  I highly recommend this company.   .

Long-distance move from Massachusetts to Texas

Not trustworthy at all.

I recently moved from MA to TX and had a very bad exp with this movers.
This was not my first move but this is my worst exp with movers & packers.
While giving you  the quotation they will talk a lot and tell you so many things but in   actual when people come for the pickup they will tell you the entirely new story.

I took the full Service (Packing material etc) and because of that didn't packed any thing by myself. Person who came for pickup was not ready to pack all the stuff. He was very very rude and during the packing only he broke my lights and some other stuff.
They asked me for more money (saying that cu ft area is more compare to the mentioned) when I asked them to see the truck (just to check the area) initially they hesitated and was trying to stop me. They talked very badly with my wife as well.
Finally after some argument we settled down but paid more money to them.

They promised me to deliver the stuff (whenever I call them and give the new address, after that they can deliver within 5 days)..

When I called them and gave the address after 15 days they delivered the stuff (that too not in good condition)..

Whenever I asked soemthing they diverted the call to dispatch department and the person was always in meeting . They didn't reverted my call .

we will never go  with them again..My recommondation for them is "Strongly NO".

Long-distance move from New York to Illinois

Great Move NYC to IL.

I just completed my move from NYC to IL. I am happy to report that it was incredibly successful thanks to Great American! Our agent was in contact with us during the entire process. He was easily reachable and always helpful. The movers that packed us up were great as were the guys who helped us on the other leg of the trip! We had multiple stops both in NY and IL and they were great!! Our stuff arrived safe and sound. EXCELLENT moving company! Moving is a pain in the neck, but this company made our experience less painful. THANK YOU!

Long-distance move from Connecticut to Virginia

Great moving experience.

When my wife and I moved to VA, we did a lot of research for a moving company and found Great American Van Lines through a friend. They assured us the move would be smooth, fast, and a friendly experience. Guess what? It was exactly that and more. All of our belongings arrived in the condition as before, with nothing damaged which was great. The movers also helped us move around some big furniture since my wife couldn't help much. Overall it was a great experience and the workers were friendly. If I ever have to move again or need to recommend someone a company, this would be it for sure. Well worth the money and investment. Thank you!

Long-distance move from Connecticut to Michigan

Mixed Bag.

Hello, I felt as though I should relay my experiences with Great American Van Lines to better assist those currently searching for a moving company.
The bottom line is that I feel Great American Van lines has too many customers to please at once, and does not do a great job at any one part of the moving process. Their drivers are contracted so it's a mixed bag whether you get a reliable crew or not.
Anyway, onto the review.
I was moving from CT to MI and gave the company my exact item list in an email. The quote I received was for 500 cf, $1590, and was reasonable with the other quotes I was getting in terms of price and size.
When the crew got to my house, one of the first things out of the crew leader's mouth was that the belongings were actually 800 cf, and the price would need to be adjusted. I understand how lowballing quotes works, I understand that the quote I received could not have been 100% accurate, and I also understand that this is not specific to this company. However, since my final price was $2754, and this was deduced without any measuring, calculating, or listing of the actual item by item cubic feet, I feel as though this gentleman could have at least faked it a little better if he was trying to screw me for his own gain.
The actual crew was very prompt, very professional, and very in sync. However, they had a tendancy to use excessive amounts of tape on items that were already shrink wrapped. I think they used upwards of 20 rolls for my entire move, and of course charged me in the end for it.
Throughout the move, I got a very bad feeling from the crew leader as if he was a businessman first and foremost, and cared about getting every last cent from me. He told me that if I used a credit card, they may charge me an $80 fee to use it, but if I tipped his crew $200, they could "tell them not to charge me." Comments like this were very common during the pickup process.
Over the past couple months, I have noticed more and more items that I know I packed but are somehow missing from my belongings. I do not want to point fingers, but I do feel as if the crew leader was bitter about the lack of a big tip coming his way, and I would not put it past him to take items from me. I have contacted the company but I am not satisfied with the level of attentiveness that I received, so I rather just let it go so I don't have to deal with them anymore.
Delivery took the entire 10 day length, and the company informed me half way in that it was scheduled to take around 12 days. Then, around 4PM on the 9th day, I was informed that they could fit my stuff on a truck and would be delivering it the next morning. Luckily, the drivers were flexible and I could move my belongings in at 9PM on the 10th day. This was not a professional way of communicating my move status to me, and I can only hope that this is not standard procedure.
With that being said, I must say that the crew who delivered my belongings was great and I have only nice things to say about them. Unfortunately, at that point, pricing had already been determined, and a bad taste had already been left in my mouth.
I am hoping that other moves with Great American are more professional, but since it appears the drivers have incentive to screw you over, it is more likely than not that they will.

Long-distance move from New York to Texas

Worst worst Experience Ever in my Life.

I contacted this company to move my items from New York to Texas.. I agreed to go with them because of all the other companies, they gave me the cheapest quote ( I now agree with the saying that cheapness is really worriness). They were late for the pick up. On the day of the pickup, the guy walked in my apt and immediately said I definitely have to pay more, which I expected because I know how these companies operate, they give you a quote according to your list of items and on the actual day the price increases.. I never expected it to increase by double the estimated quote since I only had about 8 extra boxes. On the day of delivery which was yesterday or I should say late late last night.. it was a mere disaster. The contract said they would upload the truck..these men just laid all my belongings by the side of the road after 11pm because they claim that their truck wasn't able to go to the storage unit but if I pay an extra $300 they can bring my items to the storage unit. This was just unacceptable.. These drivers are cheaters. Some of my boxes were damaged and opened.  They mishandled my furnitures so badly, they were dirty. I wish there was somewhere I could report these companies. You don't treat people like that at all.  I would NEVER NEVER EVER recommend this company to my worst enemy.

Long-distance move from Texas to Maryland

Nathan is awesome at Great American Van Lines!

I worked with Nathan Gold as I was looking for my move from TX To MD.  In my experience, booking a mover can be a horrendous experience. Each guy will tell you that the other company is not legit or will fraud you. I even got screwed by Low Cost Moving as they cancelled my shipping at the last minute. I then approached Nathan at Great American Van Lines. Although I was not able to get the services of the company due to my personal issues, I found Nathan Gold as one of the few nicest and polite guy working in this industry. He will always return your call or reply to your email; will not try to low ball you; and will tell you things as they are. In future I would definitely try using Great American Van Lines service just because of Nathan Gold.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to California

Best movers around.

When I took a Job in California I had to find movers I could trust. I called Great American Van Lines. The salesman on the phone was extremely Helpful and patient with me. I know I can be hard to deal with Lol. He was completely reassuring on the phone. They gave me a fair quote and I hired them. The Driver showed up on time. They took care when loading the truck and securing to make sure nothing moved during transport. Once in California again the driver was on time with the Delivery. Again in unloading they took care to make sure nothing fell or broke. There was not even a scratch on anything. If I have to ever move again I will be calling Great American Van Lines.
