Long-distance move from Chicago, IL to Oak Harbor, WA

Beware: Dishonest Broker.

I didn't bother to dig deep enough into the reviews of First Call Relocations before hiring them. First Call Relocations appears to have a glowing 5-star rating on several review websites, but some websites have traced back the origins of reviews to a single IP address. The posting dates of 5-star reviews also tend to be within a few days' time of each other, all from India, and have odd wording and sentence structure. My conclusion is that most if not all 5-star reviews should be seen as highly suspicious or even false. For real reviews, none of them over 1-star, read about them on Yelp (https://goo.gl/u2shRo) and Google (https://goo.gl/Bmmq2f) and the Better Business Bureau (https://goo.gl/St3ydY).

I wish I had taken the time to do this research before hiring them. Please don't think they'll treat you any different or that these poor reviews are the exceptions or that all these 1-star reviews are just cantankerous people with nothing better to do than complain. First Call really is a zero-star company with no shame and no morals.

I’m a veteran who had to move back home to take care of my elderly mother. I contacted First Call Relocations in August planning for a move of my studio apartment from Chicago to Seattle planned for early Oct. Before I paid the 33% ACH (direct from my checking account) deposit, Mark was my best friend, texting and calling me about 3 times a day. Once I'd paid my $1229.55 deposit and had questions about my estimate, Mark didn't respond to any of my texts or calls.

In fact, I heard nothing from First Call Relocations until a week before my move. I received an email that explained the timeline and what to expect. It was a decent email with a lot of information and several numbers to call if I had questions, which I did. I had difficulty getting a hold of anyone at any of the numbers however.

I had to do all the calling to communicate with First Call. At each opportunity, they failed to call as the email said they would.

The issue in short is that I communicated the challenges my high-rise building posed: a two-hour window to use the freight elevator and loading dock. Tyler the dispatcher twice agreed that my move could occur within the time-frame we discussed.

The day and time of my planned move, the movers were in another state just beginning to head my way. They eventually made it close to my apartment by the deadline Tyler and I had discussed. Tyler tried passing blame for missing my move date and time by claiming he couldn't possibly know where his trucks were or what kind of traffic to expect or how long it would take for his truck to drive from Gary, Indiana to downtown Chicago. When I asked if he'd ever heard of or used the free Google Maps app in his work, he promptly changed his complaint, accusing me of an unreasonable window of time. I reminded him that we'd discussed it at length the night before and that he'd insisted his movers could get my move completed by the deadline we discussed.

I was forced to make new arrangements with my apartment management to stay in my unit at my expense longer than planned, then I found a new moving company with a better service record. I immediately emailed First Call (CCing my state's Attorney General thankfully: my lawyer’s said this was a great move) to arrange a full refund of my $1229.55 deposit for services not rendered. The same day, Delilah called and left me a voicemail explaining that refunds took 7 - 10 business days to process, then checks were only issued twice a month.

It is now Dec 10. Despite frequent calls to Delilah at First Call over the past two months, I still don't have a refund. I have been strung along being told that the Accounting department (apparently one guy named Steve) is on permanent vacation. I’ve had to get litigious. It’s my obligation to post these reviews to warn any potential customers that YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH FIRST CALL. As others have suggested, the complete lack of customer service, the unnecessary stress, and all the time you'll spend trying to see justice is just not worth it.

Horrible Company RUN AWAY.

This company is the biget nightmare ever. Whatever you do don't use them. I was contacted by someone who called himself Ma. On the initial phone call he came up with a $4300 price. I gave them a pretty accurate list. I gave him a deposit of 35% of the cost. Later I find out that he only quoted part of what I said. Then the Price went up to $6700 after I gave them the list again. I wanted to get a refund on the deposit because I was not feeling very secure about my decision to use them. They said that they had a no refund policy.
So I decided to stay with them. When the day of the move came they jacked up the price to over $12K because they said I underestimated my list. They also lost some of my items. Just stay away from this company. I used them because they had a 5 star rating. Now to find out they put in their own 5 star review to get the 5 stars. RUN AWAY THEY ARE CROOKS.

Long-distance move from Nashville, TN to Albuquerque, NM

Disreputable Company.

Ara is completely correct, they are the worst. I was provided a "binding estimate" and proof that price would not be over $6,400. Nightmare and no customer service begins once they get deposit. I confirmed pick-up for 8/29 on 8/27 and again on evening of 8/28 with agent. They no-showed on 8/29 because I did not "reconfirm" phone calls on 8/28, but they left no message for me or alternate number with wife. Move could not happen until 9/2. They came night before and jacked up price but said go ahead as talked to supervisor about misrepresentations, price had to be modified to lower. Near end of move on 9/2, said it was now 2000 cubic feet, price claimed now to $10,500! Then, on delivery I saw truck and markings that showed only 1700 cubic feet! Missing parts for futon, not reassembled. Movers said not cable of re-assembling bunk bed despite promise that they would. Reported immediately, filed claim 7 wks ago and nothing done and no communication. I will be filing lawsuit. Run.

Do not use this company.

I went with this company due to a family member helping me book a mover. I hesitated at first, but decided to use them. Such a big mistake. They had me put a 35% down payment before they picked up my items. They actually came on the day they stated to pack-up my items and sent them to a warehouse preparing them for the shipment. I was told by the representive to expect 10-14 days for delivery. I called on day 14 to see about when I can expect my items, and I was told they haven't left yet! What, why was I not called and told this. They were unable to delivery my items to me so I had to hire another moving company to go to their warehouse to pick-up my stuff. Now they are telling me my 35% down payment is not refundable. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I can not stress this enough. Use a more reputable company.

Terrible company.

Terrrible company. They force you after signing online with a low estimate, then use every way to get extra money from you because you paid 1500 online. Too many promises that will not happen. Not professional, do not answer phone calls or emails, even insulting answers. Late for delivery date and require you to file a claim (only after the delivery), no answer after 5 months. Do yourself a favor, and never hire this company, very bad on all aspects.

Worst experience ever.

This company is unethical and unprofessional. They scammed my wife out of 2200 dollars and provided no service other than excuses and hid behind the fine print on the contract of "natural causes". Be warned. Ellie and Tyler misrepresent their service. Offered no refund or apology for the extra stress.

First Call was absolutely amazing. They handled every single facet of this move. The call to set the move up was so easy. Matt was so polite and helpful. Do Not Use This Company.

I called them to assist in a move of 1000 miles. at first everything seemed great. we scheduled this move months in advance. I had multiple bids and they were the cheapest. we received a bid of $7500 to move about 1500 cubic feet of stuff. When they arrived to do the packing they had me start signing paperwork to get going. Then we were told that the price had changed to $23,000 as we would use over 3200 cubic feet of space. They tried to negotiate with us and basically made you feel like a hostage. They claimed that our stuff was way more then what was quoted. We canceled service with them same day and went with another moving company. The other company used quoted us for 1600 cubic feet of stuff and once it arrived we were told it was less than they had quoted. So as you can see nothing but lies and scams here. they are out to steal your money do not use this company.
