Local move within Manitoba

Alton from Surrey BC to South Junction Mb.

Never again would I use a moving company because of my experience with this Company. I called up the company to get a quote from them, all went well, the salesman (Hozan) was awesome, he wanted a deposit ($225) right away to lock in the price he gave me.
I was quoted $3265 pre tax for the move based on an estimated weight.
the movers were great and professional. the mover made two trips (one full load and the second load was less than 25% full. The head mover estimated the weight to be around 6000 pound, which was within the estimated weight.
Few days later I called the sales rep and my bill was up to $6959.26.
On delivery when the truck showed up the driver refused to get on my driveway until the etransfer was received.
I felt as if I was robbed and I am guilty for inviting the thieves in.
my invoice # is 11142017.

Official company response

Dear Alton,

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your grievances on how our services do not meet up with your expectations.

Our greatest desire is to ensure our customers are satisfied at all levels.

The price is estimated based on the household industry average weight, however, the final moving cost is based on the exact weight that is determined only upon truck scale - before and after loading. Our movers cannot provide an exact weight at a glance. Obviously, the exact weight came to be more than estimated.

This information was disclosed in the booking agreement as well as the information about balance payment that is due prior starting the offloading.

We always strive to provide all the information upfront prior booking to avoid this kind of misunderstandings and grievances.

We are terrible sorry for unpleasant experience you had with us. Whilst an apology will regrettably not alter the outcome of your experience on this case, we do extend it with sincerity.

Long-distance move from Calgary, AB to Toronto, ON

From Calgary to Toronto.

We did a long distance move from Calgary AB to Toronto ON. A very reasonable price was given according to the weight. We had some really fragile china which they professionally packed for us and everything was delivered within the time-frame quoted. We needed a company who we could trust to carry out this relocation with minimal contact from us as both I and my husband are constantly traveling. Great all round job was completed by the movers. Will keep you in mind for the next future relocation.

Long-distance move from Prince George, BC to Toronto, ON

Informative agent.

Was given an estimate over the phone. Explained how the process works, pricing, days of the move and how to keep the costs down. Also some additional feedback answering many of my questions prior to my move day. I felt the agent spent time with me and didn't rush at all. Very satisfied with his handling of my request. The movers were exceptional every step of our move and I felt in the comfort zone with them due to their pleasant demeanor. Nice work.

Refusal to provide way scale documents or final statement.

I researched several companies before choosing Centennial Moving, their initial quote was comfortable for openers but they "claimed" my actual weight of goods exceeded the quote estimate and added a surcharge of $600.00 to the end amount. When I repeatedly requested "John" to provide me a final statement, and way scale document he refused to comply. So I suspect the final bill was inflated, and I will be taking further action against them through CBC Investigative "Go Public".

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1800

Official company response

Thank you for taking the time to share your grievances on how our services do not meet up with your expectations.

The exact weight is to be determined upon the truck scale that we do twice - before and after pickup. The difference between the two scales shows us the exact weight and the final price is to be adjusted according to it. We invite customers to be present during the scaling process to witness the scaling process. A copy of the scale ticket is provided at request.

You contacted John a month later to request the scaling ticket. As he informed you, we don't keep the weight slip copies after delivery is completed as we have the weight figures registered in the system.

Please contact us directly if you would like to discuss this question further in more details.

We are terribly sorry for the unpleasant experience you had with us. Whilst an apology will regrettably not alter the outcome of your experience on this case, we do extend it with sincerity.

Best regards,
Centennial Moving Team.

As smooth as possible.

Relocated for work from Calgary to Toronto. Everyone I dealt with was really professional. John who generated the quote and Trey, our move coordinator did an outstanding job. With a move this big, they did everything to ensure it went as smooth as possible. The movers in Toronto were so friendly and helpful as were the movers in Calgary. Thank you for the great experience.

Having what it takes.

These guys are the best. I used them to move from Toronto to Edmonton about three years ago and they made it such a great move then. So used them this time to hop over to Windsor and they were again worth every cent. I have since recommended them to my sister to relocate. I will always use them for my relocation requirements. They simply have what it takes for my needs.

Lots of Hidden Fees!

The price seems to be low at the beginning compared to other companies. But, they have their own way of doubling the price at the end. And since your items are in their hands and you need your items asap, you cannot do anything to prevent them from adding to the final price.
Firstly, they almost add 1000lb to the actual weight of the items (extra $600). The unfortunate part is you cannot prove that they are wrong once they have picked up your items and did the scaling.
Second, their movers are completely unprofessional giving you wrong information. I asked the movers whether it is possible to witness the scaling which they told that it is not. So, they picked up my items and scaled it later and provided the weight 1000lb more than what I have scaled myself.
Third, if you want the rescaling, they ask for an additional $400 and delay in the delivery of the items. Again, if the movers did not give the wrong information I could be present at the time of scaling in the first place. Although I tried to talk to their agent and the manager, none of them took responsibility for their mistake!
Forth, they add extra $300-400 for the shuttle services.
Fifth, they add an extra $120 if you have stairs.
Sixth, none of this information is indicated in the contract nor on their website. So you would think they give a reasonable price by signing the contract and making the deposit. But, in reality, you end up paying double the amount that you calculated based on the signed contract.
Be careful with them or you will lose your money if you only rely on the contract! I was expecting $1600 at max based on the contract, ended up paying $2800 based on hidden fees (their dirty way of business)!

Official company response

Dear Masoud,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We have commented on your review below.

-The price seems to be low at the beginning compared to other companies. But, they have their own way of doubling the price at the end. And since your items are in their hands and you need your items asap, you cannot do anything to prevent them from adding to the final price.

You mentioned you had a 1 bedroom apartment to be moved. The industry average weight for this type of household is between 1000 - 2000 lbs. The original price quote we sent was based on 1000 lbs as this is our minimum shipping weight charge.
In the booking agreement, we informed you the final charges will depend on your exact weight that we determine by scaling the truck twice - before and after loading.

Follow this link for booking agreement screenshot https://www.screencast.com/t/eYWoevqlO5

-Firstly, they almost add 1000lb to the actual weight of the items (extra $600). The unfortunate part is you cannot prove that they are wrong once they have picked up your items and did the scaling.

The list of items you provided us via weight estimation tool included 85 items with an industry average of 4330 lbs and 85 items. We picked and scaled 79 items and got the weight of 3380 lbs.

-Second, their movers are completely unprofessional giving you wrong information. I asked the movers whether it is possible to witness the scaling which they told that it is not. So, they picked up my items and scaled it later and provided the weight 1000lb more than what I have scaled myself.

Our movers have over 15 years of experience in moving and are absolute professionals in this field. The driver couldn't tell you such information as you have a legal right to witness scaling process.
Unfortunately, we haven't received any information of the scaling you did by yourself. You didn't send us any weight pictures, scale tickets or other papers confirming you did scale and used certified or industrial scales.

-Third, if you want the rescaling, they ask for an additional $400 and delay in the delivery of the items. Again, if the movers did not give the wrong information I could be present at the time of scaling in the first place. Although I tried to talk to their agent and the manager, none of them took responsibility for their mistake!

Rescale is not a part of the contract as we don't do this on a regular basis. Rescaling requires setting appointment at the scaling station. Rescaling fee depends on the size of your load and cover the fuel surcharge, labor, equipment and time spent.
The conditions of rescale are discussed with each customer individually. And if the rescale proves we were wrong with the weight, the rescaling fee is refunded and the price adjusted according to the exact weight.

-Forth, they add extra $300-400 for the shuttle services.

The same booking agreement stated that we charge additional fees and shuttle fee was one of them.
Your addresses were not accessibly by 72ft semi-trailer and we had to betake to the help of shuttle trucks to complete the job.

-Fifth, they add an extra $120 if you have stairs.

We informed you about stairs fee prior sending your the agreement in email correspondence and in the booking agreement itself
FYI all moving companies charge stairs fee

-Sixth, none of this information is indicated in the contract nor on their website. So you would think they give a reasonable price by signing the contract and making the deposit. But, in reality, you end up paying double the amount that you calculated based on the signed contract.

As you can see from above, all the information was clearly indicated in the booking agreement, FAQ section and email correspondence.
Failure to acknowledge yourself with the agreement is not company's fault.

-Be careful with them or you will lose your money if you only rely on the contract! I was expecting $1600 at max based on the contract, ended up paying $2800 based on hidden fees (their dirty way of business)!

We are transparent with all our charges and customers are welcomed to ask any questions before making a reservation.
"Dirty business" would not allow us to stay in this business since 1995 and to have good ratings on all moving review platforms including BBB.

We are sorry your move was less than perfect for you.
We invite you to contact us directly if you have any questions left unanswered.

Long-distance move from Kingston, ON to Vancouver, BC

Mission completed.

We moved from a large home in Kingston to a home half as big in Vancouver. Needless to say, this was very stressful and a complicated long distance move. It was also complicated because we needed to coordinate the move to our new home a week after we closed on our old home in Winnipeg. From start tom finish Centennial made the move easier. We even hired them to pack up our Kingston home and deliver into our new home in Vancouver. We unpacked ourselves. Centennial was very accommodating and understanding at all times, even under the pressure of getting us packed and loaded in the same day. And the prices were reasonably competitive for the work done. Highly recommended!

Long-distance move from Lethbridge, AB to Toronto, ON

Impressed with business.

I needed to move last minute long distance during the busiest moving season, not only were they able to get the load done in a half a day, they got all of my stuff on the truck and delivered in a week. Great business took great care of my stuff and the customer care was excellent. I am extremely impressed with the company and how they do business. Between the very fair cost (that was not jacked up after packing up the truck like most movers seem to do) but they were timely, friendly, respectful and very nice good hearted people. A huge 5 stars from me. I highly recommend them.
