Long-distance move from Illinois to Massachusetts

IL to MA: Worst Experience.

Worst movers to work with. Came late for pick-up, and said will show up next day. Came late, and disrupted my travel plans. Don't value your time and no commitment. On day of pick up increased the cost from 1500 to 2500. The loader put all the charges. Still waiting for delivery.

But they donot offer any discount for their negligence.

Such a shabby and poor experience with the United moving company. If had time, I would take legal route. I hope some one teaches them a lesson
I am surprised to see people giving 5 stars (may be shady ones..).

United Transportation.

I moved from Las Vegas to Honolulu, and based on their reviews choose to go with United Transportation. I have had a pleasant experience from the day I first contacted this company. Tammy is very helpful and returns calls in a timely manner. Everyone that I have dealt with throughout my move was very professional and has done an excellent job with loading and unloading my belongings. I would definitely use them again.

Move to San Diego.

I'm happy to say that United stepped up to the plate and worked hard to make sure I was satisfied wit my moving experience. There was a break down in communication in the beginning but was quickly resolved by United. On top of that, they credited me $630 for packing and material and are going to replace my broken items. Moving sucks, things happens and things don't always go according to plan, but when a company admits its faults and then works hard to make amends and make sure the customers is satisfied, that goes a long way!

Tami was awesome. You could tell that she really cared and wanted to make things right and you know what? She did! It's easy to write a bad review when you feel service didn't meet your expectation or you were dissatisfied with the outcome but most don't take the time to update when a company made good on their promise. Although there were some bumps in the road, Tami extended herself to make sure the bumps were smoothed out and I walked away happy at the end of the day.

Truly a 5 star moving company.

I want to say thank you to UTMS for moving my family from Oceanside to Honolulu I was contacted by Tami and we had good communication, she was polite and she was very detailed about what's included in the service and she also checked the dates that will be cheaper to move.

Ben Call to confirm a day in advance and the guys were on time Boris, Manuel, and Rocky work fast and protected all my belongings.

Delivery was done after 2 weeks Hector and Rocky assemble all my furniture in my new home.

I don't have any damages. This is my 1st time moving I was a little scared but they made the moving process much much easier they were available for me.

I recommend UTMS to all families that are moving, they truly care about their customers. I couldn't be any happier with my choice.

They are 5 star moving company.

Long-distance move from Vienna, VA to Kahului, HI

Illegal and Fraudulent Actions. Beware!

This moving company has lied, decieved, and now illegally impersonated me to scam my credit card company!

I began the process of moving from VA to HI in October and everything was great- they seemed legit but once my items were picked up on 12/26/17, I had to call and email everyone week (sometimes 3+ times) to even get a response of "What do you need to know? We don't know where your stuff is." What? I just paid you $1,450.80 and you don't know where my items are?

I was told once my shipment made it to LA, I'd receive a call, I called on 1/1/18 and was told "We don't know." So I called back every few days ..and finally moved on 1/24/18 and was told it would be two more days until my things arrived, I called in 2 days and they say 3 more days..I call and they say 1 week..okay, now you guys are messing with me..a week later, they say 2 more weeks until my shipment arrives, what!

The two weeks passed after recording and documenting every phone call and email, mind you, we are told we will receive a call from the delivery man; he calls to tell us he was fired from United that day..so we hire him ourselves, as a private contractor; this contractor, myself, and bf go to the storage unit that was actually on island on 1/24/18 as well (they lied and said it wasn't) and pick up our own items and deliver to our own apartment since United did not fulfill the contract and lied the whole time! We took matters into our own hands and became our own movers.

Two days later, United charged my credit card for a delivery fee of $1173.28 which they did illegally and fraudulently! I worked with my credit card company and TODAY 3/10/18 was told United sent them a letter claiming to be ME stating I authorized the above payment. I DID NOT. United illegally forged my signature!! I have already filed a complaint with the BBB and will continue to file complaints so this doesn't happen the anyone else. I have now had United STEAL my identity in forging a letter. I am disgusted and shocked.

Quick add- there is another family on the island who's things were also in our storage unit and they're going through the exact same scenario and issues and are filing complaints of their own; also working with the credit card company as they were illegally charged as well!

Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT work with this company. They will steal you money, time, and peace of mind.

Long-distance move from Portland, OR to Rochester, NY

Do not recommend.

I booked my move from Oregon to New York through a broker company that contracts with United to perform the actual move. I will preface this review with admitting that using a broker caused some miscommunication and contributed to some of the issues with this move. That being said, the service I received from United was extremely unsatisfactory. It took nearly 2 months to move my belongings, and the customer service was truly horrible.

My pickup was initially scheduled for December 19. On December 21 at 9 pm, the driver called and said he would be arriving in about an hour. My storage unit closed at 10, so we agreed to meet at the storage unit first thing the next morning instead. The driver and one assistant showed up the next morning three hours later than the agreed upon time.

This was only the beginning. My belongings were picked up on December 22, and driven to California, where they sat until my delivery on February 15. The initial delivery was supposed to be on January 15! The delivery was repeatedly pushed back, and it was very clear that United was making absolutely no effort to ensure a timely delivery. In addition, they make you sign a contract that says they have 21 business days to make the delivery. So you basically have no recourse if your delivery is extremely delayed. And the reimbursement for a late delivery is only $30 per day. Hardly appropriate for such a huge inconvenience!

The company also doesn't typically accept credit cards (which seems a little sketchy to me). However, I arranged to pay the remaining balance due upon delivery by credit card. Unfortunately, there was a last minute problem in which my credit card was declined the night before delivery. I arranged with management to pay by credit card the morning of delivery, but when the driver found out about this, he refused to come to my house to deliver my belongings! The driver refused to deliver unless I had cash or money order, despite my having made special arrangements. This was obviously not communicated to the driver and was a huge inconvenience and burden.

Between the late pickup, extremely late delivery, and poor customer service, this move went absolutely horribly. I will not be using United for any future moves, nor would I recommend them to a friend. The only positive remark I can make is that my belongings arrived in decent shape with very few damages.

Long-distance move from Pioneer, CA to Sun City, AZ

United Transportation.

My bad experience with United Transportation started at the beginning. We agreed on a time and date for their arrival. They were two days late. They tagged and loaded my belongings and then asked for a gratuity. They have a poor system of ropes to separate clients belongings. I wanted them to store my belongings about 30 days. They palletize clients belongings in the warehouse. Because of their very poor system of separating client belongings with ropes, some of my belongings were put on the wrong pallet. Whoever United Transportation gave my belongings to never called anyone and decided to keep what didn't belong to them. United Transportation is not capable of tracing and or tracking pallets once they leave.
I lost clothing, I lost almost all of my irreplaceable lifelong treasures and almost all of my irreplaceable family heirlooms.

Long-distance move from Carlsbad, CA to Issaquah, WA

Horrific experience.

Absolutely a horrific experience! We've moved cross country 5 times, and this was BY FAR, the worst experience ever. They up-charged us multiple times, the pickup crew quit 1/2 way through the job, they hired guys off Craigslist coming into our home to pack and move our stuff and the office staff had no idea where our furniture was at any given time during the move. I mean really, I can find my I-phone anywhere, anytime, but they had no way of knowing where their huge truck with all our belongs was located over the course of a week?! We spent 2 full days sitting in an empty house waiting for them to show up. I could go on and on, just save yourself the heartache, frustration and aggravation and do not use them.

Seriously the worst customer service experience of any kind we've ever experienced.

BEWARE, this is NOT United Van Lines.

Avoid at all costs!!

Took over 21 days to get our stuff, from CA to UT. The entire time was a nightmare. Highly unprofessional. They will give you the run around on everything from price to where your stuff is. They charged us $6000 over what they quoted us, after giving multiple updated inventory sheets. They offered to give us a refund of $1400. Haven't seen it, don't think we ever will, as they don't return emails or phone calls. Many items were damaged en route, and their "insurance" its a joke. Save yourself the headache and use another company. I would give 0 stars if I could. Avoid at all costs! Take your money elsewhere! They will bait and switch you, and they will lie to you. They won't treat your belongings with respect. You WILL have items broken, damaged, or flat out destroyed.

Cross country move.

We moved from Maryland to San Diego. We used a broker who connected us to this company. The mover was fine. It was only him (the driver), it took a while for his help to show up. We felt bad and bought him some cold drinks, and I also gave him a good tip. I think because it was only him, our hardwood floor ended up scratched from moving the sofas. The broker offered $200 for the damage later when I complained because it had been a month and I hadn’t heard back from the company. We took longer than expected and went over the first 30 days free shipping so we had higher cost there than quoted for storage (apparently it’s cheaper if you book it initially) and apparently 90-100% require shuttle delivery which for us is an extra $800+ which we were not told in the beginning. We had different price quotes for both these fees from the broker as well. Maybe if we hadn’t used a broker we would have known about the fee to start? I suspect with all movers there are going to be hidden or not upfront fees. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories with moving and it’s a very scary process. But if I write this review, I get almost half off that unexpected $800+ fee. Our stuff hasn’t been delivered yet so I can’t say anything regarding that, but all in all the guys did a good job packing/loading/moving our stuff. BEST moving and storage (the broker) and the driver who did most of the packing reassured me and made a very stressful time less so and helped the process be smoother. He was apologetic about the floor and even with only one guy initially they were very fast.

I called today because I hadn’t heard and had put in a delivery date for tomorrow. I was very glad for the news they were indeed going to deliver tomorrow. We’ve had our stuff in storage now for about 5 weeks. You have to pay a full month for a weeks extra storage. Moving is so tough (don’t get me started on the hotels while waiting for house to be ready!!) and I hope you have a smooth transition!!

If you are price comparing, our cost below is the final cost for 8938#. (I had very significantly trimmed down our belongings including not transporting many furniture pieces and many full car donations plus garage sales for things that were included in the estimate) after the first extensive estimate, so I was really quite surprised our weight came in higher than the estimate, meaning we didn’t get a refund from the first estimate but actually owed more).

Burned all our stuff in a fire, no contact after.

This company should not even be allowed to operate. They lost al of our stuff in a supposed warehouse fire (was not supposed to be in a warehouse in California, they had told us would be delivered to Alabama the next week) and have been cold and unresponsive to this devastating loss. I am happy to speak personally with anyone who is considering using this company. DO NOT DO IT. They have a terrible claims company, a dismissive attitude about their obligations and a completely unresponsive customer service department. That doesn’t even get into the fact that they were terrible even at the initial packing up stage where a full service move turned into me and my neighbor helping the two people who showed up pack a 4 bedroom house. It was completely absurd. Save your self the hassle, use any other movers.

United transport hen Moving is definitely the best way to move.

I really do not know how to thank these fine people. They were excellent from the start to finish. I got the best possible deal from the sales rep tamara, and the packing and moving services by their team ( hector and fransisco). Execution of all the maneuvers was excellent, fast and accurate and the commitment by them was something to remember. They gave their best and made my money count. They did not keep me waiting for the delivery and handed over all my belongings in great condition. To cut the long story short – I got the best move ever by All services movers.

Excellent. Everything went perfectly. The quality of the everything was perfect. These guys wrapped everything very professionally. I have used another moving service in the past. Long-distance move from Pasadena, CA to New Haven, CT

AVOID. Not worth the headache and extra incurred costs.

My grievances are as follows:
1. I scheduled a pickup date of July 26th. I understand they did not break the contract that allowed for a grace window until the 28th. However, they did not contact me at all and it took several calls to get through to them on the 28th. When I finally did, I was told that the pickup would be July 30. I convinced them to come July 29th. During this delay we had additional transportation and meal expenses because our fridge was empty and we had sent our car due to the expected move. Throughout this communication and negotiation experience I received poor customer service, but was told that I could be compensated $150 for the one-day extension of the pickup window.
2. On pickup, the crew was working across 3 levels of my home and I was unable to supervise everything. When I unpacked I realized that they had used my own couch cushions to pad the machine. Each couch cushion is worth $500 and is not to be used for this purpose and is ill-designed to pad a 100+lb machine. In addition the packaging was far to thin and it only had an inch of bubble wrap on one side. This side was physically damaged and warped from presumably being dropped and the bubbles were all deflated. Extremely poor service that was explicitly paid more for ($80). The crew also damaged several walls, doors, and even the ceiling while taking my items to the truck. Buyer negotiated $500 for repairs but United would not provide compensation.
3. On delivery the crew also incurred damages to the walls and unit that will come out of my security deposit when I terminate my lease. Estimated $500 of damage they incurred.
4. On pickup I asked the supervisor if I should still expect 7-10 days for delivery. He said no, probably 7-14. I had no problem with this, as I understand this is normal. It was not clear if he meant business days, but I understood him to mean calendar days. However, when my things hadn’t arrived at 10 days I called to get an update. Anna told me that there had been a delay “in Hawaii” (but isn’t that before LA?). However, when pressed, she said that it should arrive on the 14th or 15th. On the 14th I contacted her again to get an update and requested again to speak to Ben or her manager. On the 16th I received a call from the truck driver that the truck had broken down in Ohio. The same day I got an email from Angela saying as much and that she would update me ASAP with any updates. I never got any updates. When I finally got in touch with Anna again I was told that it was delayed because of the breakdown (but the truck broke down past the date I was told it would arrive). The driver did not update me and Anna or Angela did not update me during the delay and I repeatedly asked Ana to talk to her manager and was told that “she will give you a call” but I never got one. Once I realized that Angela was Ana’s manager, I obtained her number and contacted her. I was offered a very small settlement of $200 which covers almost nothing.
5. Throughout the process, the communication was poor at best and potentially fraudulent at worst. I felt misled about the delivery date throughout the process and at multiple points was told that 21 business days is “possible but pretty much never happens.”
6. Due to this continued pushing back of the delivery date and misleading about when it would happen my daily spending was affected. Instead of buying more household and cooking items early on we spent more money finding places to sit in a chair and eat food. I estimate about $1000 of expenses following the updated date of the 14th that I was told.
7. Throughout the process I attempted to communicate directly and clearly with United Transportation Moving and Storage, but received false information and was ultimately hard pressured into accepting a settlement of that barely covered any of the damages. Of course I declined the settlement and have withheld my right to file this claim and additional reviews.

This company saved us!

My hats are off to United Transportation. United Transportation and their crew went above and beyond to ensure that our family was well taken care of. They turned a nightmare situation into a situation that was a breeze and met all of our needs.
Let me tell you a little bit of how it went. First, We decided to hire a local reputable company. Our home which is on the larger scale, required a full service move along with packing and crates since we have a ton of antiques and fragile items. The company we hired called us literally the day of the move to tell us they were not going to make it ! I was alone, at home, with small children and it was the worse news I could have received. I had chosen this company because their price was a little better. I picked up the phone and spoke our agent. This agent was quick to resolve our problem. Not only did she schedule a crew and truck for the very next day but she was also able to provide me with a flat price for our move which alleviated the factor of any unpredictable expenses. United Transportation saved our family the next morning. Now let me start by telling you the greatness of this company and their crew!
United sent a trailer and a crew of 6 movers the next morning. There was a foreman who walked us through the packing, wrapping and loading process. These men worked so hard and professionally to ensure our items would be packed and loaded safely. Among the six men there was a professional piano crew that was exactly what we needed to protect our baby grand piano. It was a pleasure to experience this move with this crew. Before we know our house was completely packed and was loaded into the truck. I called the office and thanked them for the amazing work these men did. I waited to write this review because I wanted to receive my shipment first. I just finished unpacking the last box and everything is in its same condition as when it was picked up. There was two Rubbermaid container tubs that ripped but these were really old but the contents were intact. I cannot express enough gratitude for the ethic, morale and professionalism this company provided to us. This is one company that I will recommend to all my family and friends. We are now ready to start our lives in Texas and moving was a breeze! Glad I know about this gem of a company.

Stay Far, Worst in The Business.

My move started awful with so many problems and still ongoing many months after. Missing items were found and still have not returned them when it has been OVER a month since they admitted to finding them and would deliver (I am sure they are going to want more money to receive my sons missing items we paid for initially) with no communication when they were going to come. I am sure it won't be until local, and federal authorities are sadly going to get involved.
I was subcontracted to this company from Allied Moving Group LLC in South Florida who told me no more then 10 to 14 days to deliver my sons furniture to his new home (it took over 21days)
Not only we're they extremely late, gave absolutely no communication, but in fact their company phones were supposedly down for several days which is unthinkable for a business. Once they ready to deliver that day, they called and demanded I pay another service to get them from a major city to my door! Once it came to demanding more money to delivery my items, then they got communicative, interesting..
I hope no one uses this company and the company, nor the company that sub-contracted my business to them! Absolutely terrible in every way, and they were extremely rude and unprofessional as if I had done something wrong. I must have, I paid upfront! Big learning lesson but at the end of the day they will be the one learning not to steal, charge more at delivery, and not communicate and lie.

Do Not hire this Company. Scam artist.

I was given a quote of $1587.00 for a move across country. I spoke with Tamar and she guaranteed the price was locked and that I need not to worry because they are A+ ratings on BBB. Therefore, I made a deposit of $200.00. I was also told that it would take 7-14 days to get to Ny and make sure that someone is there to receive it. I stated that someone is there to receive it. I told Tamar all things that I had in my apartment but she put what she felt on the inventory. The guys came to move my stuff and the Russian mover charged me twice the amount from the quote, almost three thousand of dollars. He even charged me for long haul of $75.00 when my apartment is less than 75 feet from the truck. The driver even charged to pack my sofa, coffee table and TV, when I was told by Tami that the guys will do this and it is in the quote. I asked him, how is this possible, he stated that I have double the space. Therefore, I went to the truck and I stated that he padded the truck front. He did not respond. I told him to unload my truck and He refused to unload. He stated that I must sign the paper and talk to customer service. I called Customer service that day but no one answered and I texted Tamar but no answered. The next day, I was able to get a hold of Tamar and she stated that she is going to rectify the problem and she is going to remeasured the size. She also stated that she is going to call me the next day. I never received a call from her. I called and texted her, and older man with a russian thick accent said she left for the day and she will call me back tomorrow. Tamar never did call and I told the Russian guy my problem and he stated I will give you a call by the end of business day but no call. This went on for three to four weeks. No returns the call and no one returns text messages. On march 22,2019, I received a called from the driver,Ben, that he wants to deliver my stuff on sunday and I stated that I waiting on the office to call me back in regards to price. He stated ok. He called the next day stating that he is going to deliver on Monday and I also stated that I waiting for the office to rectify the price. He stated ok, Monday he will deliver. The next day at 07:25, the same driver called and stated that he will be there in five hours to deliver my stuff. He also stated that make sure that there are no stairs to go up to dleiver my stuff, make sure that an 18 wheeler truck can pass then he stated that you have the full amount of money is cash. I stated that I am waiting for a call from the office and I only received an email of a credit of $250.00 and this is not what I signed up for. He stated then I can sue and good luck to me in doing so. So, I stated that I will sue because I noticed that a lot of former customers had the same issues with this company. He never came with stuff. They have my stuff hostage.
I called Tamar, on 03/25/19, she told me that she can not talk to me because I said I was going to sue and I said yes because your diver told me to and also stated that he wished my good luck. I asked for Anna, she stated that anna can not come to the phone now but she will be back in ten minutes. I called the number and no response therefore, I texted Tamar stating that you told me to call which I did three times and no one answered. Then I Anna from united called. She stated she does not normally would talk to me because I am going to sue the company and I wrote a review on the company. But she knows that I need my stuff. She is going to try her best to get the price down. She asked me to send a copy of the inventory list which I did and then she stated that she can not too much but a $250.00 discount. I said, I thought you were going to help me and she said that she was told that she can do. I asked when I am getting my stuff ? She stated that I will get it today and it will be a different driver and she will call me back. It is going to 4 weeks and I still don't have my stuff.

Very poor service.

This company provided the worse service ever. I have moved 8 times in the past and this was by far the most atrocious service ever. I only moved about 20 pieces of furniture and several boxes. Every piece had some damage, and some had significant damage. A vacuum was missing and I received a small box of parts that belonged to someone else. I was quoted a delivery time of a couple of weeks, it took one month to get my household goods. I called almost daily to ask about the progress and was told that it was on the way or a truck broke down. When I talked with the final delivery driver, he said it took him 3 days and he had picked up the household goods the day before he left. United management lied to me several times about where my things were in the process. They were difficult and argumentative with me and refused to call back in a timely manner. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Great Move.

We recently used United Transportation Moving and Storage to move 30 miles from our apartment to our new home. During our search for a quality moving company we bid 3 groups one of which we had used previously, Ben Hur. We liked Ben Hur when we used them and felt comfortable with their name recognition but the customer service, attentiveness and persistence shown by Stephanie at United was a welcome difference from the generic representatives at other companies. The movers they sent were great; very careful with our things and they had great customer service and general people skills. In particular we noticed what a great attitude the movers had despite the hard work they were faced with. Any moving company can send a few strong guys to lift your things but for us United really distinguished themselves by having really great and genuinely nice people to interact with. Our move was particularly tough since they had to lug heavy furniture and boxes down a very difficult stairway and then over to their truck which they could not park right next to the building due to access issues. No complaints the whole time, very accomodative and always with good smiles. I will remember these movers and their names, which I could not say for other moving companies I have used in the past. Without a doubt we would not hesitate to use United Transportation Moving and Storage in the future.

Long-distance move from Utah to Hawaii

Terrible company - SCAM!

This company uses every opportunity to scam you out of more money. Not only were the movers a whole day late in picking up our items (without ever notifying us of the delay), but later would not give us any information as to where our items were currently being held, when/where they were shipped and would not let us pick up our items from them. We had to get our shipment rerouted and without any documention, invoice or any notification from them of what they wanted to charge us, they held our property for ransom and told us we had to pay cash to get our belongings back (again without any invoice or documention as to what that amount was being charged for)! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR BELONGINGS!

Long-distance move from Minnesota to California

Not on time, delayed delivery, missing/damaged items.

The movers kept pushing back the pick up time - 10am, 2pm, 4pm.  They arrived about 5pm, and in filing out the paperwork revealed that it could take from 3 to 21 business days from when we told them we were ready for delivery for them to actually deliver, but they hadn't told us that until the truck was there waiting to be filled and we had a flight leaving the next morning.  They finished packing the truck about 10:30pm.

We didn't know where we were going to live, so we had the company store our things for a couple months until we found an apartment.  It took them three weeks from when we moved into the apartment to deliver our things, and every time I called to ask when delivery would be, they would say "in two to three days," so I didn't want to buy anything in the interrim.  I was living in an empty apartment with a one-and-a-half year old, sitting on the floor and eating with a couple dishes left by the prior tennant.  If they had just been honest and said, "I don't know, but probably more than a week," I would have bought a folding table and chairs, at least!

Delivery day:  They arrived at 9pm in a HUGE truck in our little neighborhood.  We were on the second floor, and one flight of stairs was in the contract, but "No, that's interior stairs.  And a flight is seven steps.  And there's a long-carry charge."  Our apartment is the closest to the street. Uh, uh.  I made a fuss and they caved.

Some items were missing stickers, they tried to deliver a bike rack that wasn't ours, stickern numbers didn't line up with what the inventory said they were (e.g. "box" vs. "chair"), and I couldn't check everything off the inventory list because of the missing numbers.  But everything was out of the truck and in our apartment at midnight, and what could I do but sign that we'd received everything?

Upon unpacking, I realized one box (I still think it's only one) was missing, along with our vacuum cleaner, which wasn't even listed on the inventory.  My husband's desk had missing and bent pegs from the way the initial movers took it apart, the stand of one of our monitors was broken and won't stand up, and some significant dent-scratches were put in an antique table.

We have filed a claim and are waiting for it to be processed.
