Long-distance move from Savannah, GA to Arlington, TN

WARNING: DO NOT USE worst experience ever. Total RIP-OFF.

United American Moving service turned to crap after they got their money. They increased the contract right before the move stating that the sq ft had increased. They charged for boxes that were never used, refused to reimburse me. The contract stated there would be professional movers. That was not the case. I have tried to get this resolved a number of time via calls and e-mail, asking for a manager but always told that one wasn't available. The original cost was just over $2000.00 and by the time I was done with them price jumped up closer to $4000.00. They don't even deserve a full star.

Stay Away! be Ware! Scammers.

STAY AWAY! BE WARE! SCAMMERS. Even with negative reviews, I am usually optimistic but please find other movers. I signed a contract for $1850 for a small load. Two days later they ask for $500 for no reasoning behind it. With my deposit tied up with them, I decided to continue on hoping it would all workout. Upon moving day, they price me $4100 on top of the deposit. Which was met with "if you tip me well, I can bring it down to $3500."

I still have not received my deposit back and they didn't move a thing. UNBELIEVABLE.

I think this company is just making money on collecting individuals deposits because as in my case they never end up moving anything and simple take the deposit.

DO NOT USE THIS GROUP.. save yourself the time, money and effort.

Long-distance move from Kansas City, MO to Jacksonville, FL

Cancelled within 72, deposit still not received.

I signed a contract and then decided to cancel. As informed, I requested the cancellation in writing on May 10th. Today is June 15th and would you believe I have yet to get my 90% refund back. They are just as friendly when they are trying to get your business but as soon as you want to cancel, those positive friendly attitudes turn into bullies. The guy I spoke with actually kept repeating to me, “ so you want to play hard ball!” Very immature and unprofessional. In addition, he kept invalidating my concerns by asking me why I think they have a 4 point something review and I’m like well if y’all are so great why does my little cancellation matter?! I would not recommend. Every negative review, I have read has matched my experience somehow. Something seriously needs to be done. They should not be able to treat people this way and get away with it. I want my money back.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Attleboro, MA

Avoid at all costs.

I would avoid this company at all costs. They have very little interest in properly helping you once you give them money. My initial call with a representative to book their service was pleasant and easy. But after encountering an issue that forced me to cancel, I called less then 24hrs after booking—talked to two people and received a cold response that it would be handled. The booking however was not thoroughly dealt with and a week later the third-party movers were aggressively calling me to confirm my move. After countless phone calls over a three-week period, they refused to give me my refund, stating that a phone call isn’t sufficient to cancel the service and that I needed written confirmation. When I repeatedly asked why the two different people I spoke with failed to inform me on how to properly cancel the service, they had no answer other than that they were sorry. I essentially paid $600 to have back and forth phone calls. During an unprecedented time like this, you would expect better customer support from companies. Don’t bother with them; there are better moving companies that actually understand how to run a business and retain customers.

Do NOT Believe a word they say!!

January, I received a phone call from United American Movers. I was offered a 50% discount on moving costs, if I would commit that day. Sadly, I did! Between January and March 3, when a different Co. (Fair & Square Transportation) showed up to actually moved my belongings, the cost jumped from $1,800. to $9,998.00. There were several reasons for the change in price. We did have more items than originally thought, but after they called and evaluated, I disposed of almost half of my belongings -still the price jumped again. The biggest change was origin/destination fee. On the original offer is was $700 (Florida to Idaho) On the Bill of Laden it was changed to $6,200.00. There was no change in destination or mileage.

BUYER BEWARE!!

Call around, get bids - do your research and be careful what you sign. Read everything! I was signing so many papers, I didn't realize I signed away my right to insurance for damaged property (and there was a lot)

UAM said 30 day free storage, I was charged over $300.00, no charge for 1 flight of stairs- I was charged $75.00. I could go on but won't. I can accept my misjudgement if it protects someone else from believing their lies.

Love to do work with this company, and you will too!

From the very start, the prices were the lowest, working with Mike to take me through the process and schedule was great, and the movers themselves were so professional. They made moving stress free. Totally recommend going with them. I have a huge, expensive mirror that I was really nervous about moving, they did an amazing job making sure it got to my new house safely.

Avoid this brokerage at all costs.

DO NOT USE THIS BROKERAGE AT ANY COST.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. This place was an absolute nightmare for my cross country move (1,400 miles).

First off, the present themselves as a moving COMPANY but they are a moving BROKERAGE. There is a big difference and you should do more research if you are unsure between the two. It will save you a lot of hassle.

My original quote was for $1,800. Michael, the sales agent, called, we talked and went over inventory. At first, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He "forgot" a few things on the original quote and when I went to put down the deposit, a few things needed to be added. It cost me an extra $300 but I thought I would be good after that.

A few weeks later, their primary guy (forgot his name at the moment) called to confirm inventory. We went over my inventory in detail. When all was said & done, my "new" price went from $2,100 and change to darn near $3,900. On top of that, he gave me an ultimatum that I could either pay the extra $1,200 in deposit ($2,200 in total) in that to "lock in" that price or if I waited until the next week for the movers to show up, it would be "double" the price. He gave me absolutely no time to think about and forced my hand. He also informed me that despite his sales agent clearly lying about the inventory and purposely miscalculating size that it was more of my fault (the customer) than his own sales agent. Not knowing any better, I agreed to the extra $1,200 deposit. I didn't have time to find new movers and spent another $3,500 in 5 days to find a new company. They also told me that none of my deposit would be refunded if I backed out, even within their 72 hour window after they charged me an extra $1,200 in deposits.

The next week, the movers showed up. Yes, the actual moving company who was packing my stuff up and taking it half way across the country.

Upon arrival, he presented me with the wrong invoice. I showed him the most recent one and right away, he called his manager. Long story short, United took damn near $2,200 in "deposits" and left the moving company with less than $1,600 to actually do the 1,400 mile move. Their way out of it was to send the actual moving company an old invoice and then try to fight about it via phone once the movers showed up.

After an hour of them fighting back & forth & United hanging up on ME twice, they told the moving company to leave and that they would have another one out the same day. It wasn't the same day, it was the next day.

The next moving company came and moved everything without much of an issue. Due to another FALSE estimate the week prior, I ended up having to pay another $700 to the moving company itself.

So, here's what I learned and why you should NEVER use this place:

- United is a brokerage that is only allowed to take a certain portion for a deposit. All they are doing is being paid to line up movers. THAT'S IT.

- If you go straight through a moving company, they will come out & give you an actual estimate. That way there's no surprises along the way.

- Most brokerages are out of Florida. The reason they are out of Florida is because they can still legally get away with this stuff.

- United has told multiple moving companies they are going to change their name AGAIN soon and that they aren't worried about legal repercussions.

- If the price seems too good to be true, it's because it is.

Long story short, United American Movers is a fraudulent company that is a brokerage and not a moving company. They'll leach every cent out of you, then screw you and the moving company in the process.

Cancellation.

I felt something was wrong when I gave my deposit and ultimately decided to cancel that is when they were no longer friendly or helpful. While they were able to process my deposit in seconds they are not willing to refund such. All I want is my money back. They keep deferring me to another person each stating they are not authorized. So frustrating. Do Not Use this company so wrong on so many levels.

Very Unprofessional.

I spoke to Brett regarding my interstate moving needs, and after I was worked up for a quote, he was pressuring me to sign and commit to their company immediately. I mentioned that I needed to speak with my husband, and get some competing quotes, and he began to berate me, saying I didn't respect or appreciate the time he spent on my quote, and that I wouldn't be able to move on time now that I didn't sign with him. He then promptly hung up after thanking me for "wasting his time". I was shocked at this very unprofessional behavior.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Portland, OR

Worst company.

We moved from NYC to Portland, OR in May 2020. Brett, the salesman who I first spoke to (https://m.facebook.com/PembrokePinesPolice/posts/1888963491116564), assured me of a few things. 1. That the movers could disassemble our couch in order to get it out of our apartment. 2. That the movers would wrap all of our framed photos and art. 3. That as long as we’d given them an accurate inventory, we would only be charged the price Brett quoted us. On the day the movers arrived to pick up our things, they told us they could not disassemble the couch (and because we’d had no notice of this, we ended up leaving it in the apartment), it had been our responsibility to wrap the framed photos and art, and that a number of items we’d CLEARLY included on the inventory list and then confirmed with a virtual walk through of our apartment, including our son’s keyboard, would be subject to an extra charge. They also charged us several hundred dollars more than we’d been quoted for a “long walk” to the van and for the flights of stairs we’d been very clear about when talking to Brett. Once they picked our things up, they then delivered them to a warehouse in NJ, where they sat for a month (Brett told us delivery would take 7 to 10 days. HA!). When our things finally arrived in Oregon, many were damaged or broken altogether, and a few had simply disappeared. We were in touch with several people in customer service at United, all of whom told us there was absolutely nothing they could do to make any of this right. If you receive a call from anyone at this company about a move, run away! What seemed like a chance to save some money turned into a very expensive and heartbreaking nightmare.

This is not a moving company.

These people sell your move to someone else. They make promises they cannot keep and quotes that will not be honored, then the real moving company that gets the job slaps you with reality -usually double the price or sometimes they hold you property hostage. When you call to get customer service their response is "wow it sucks to be you" "not our problem"

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to Charlotte, NC

Scam.

Complete and absolute unadulterated fraudulent company. The representative took an "inventory" by phone and quoted the cubic footage to be that of a one bedroom apartment (350cf of storage needed on the truck) even though we had a three bedroom house. When I discovered this was a tactic they use to book the job at a lower rate, then increase the price on the day of the move, I called my rep to cancel. Her "direct line" was disconnected and her email bounced back. I called the office 5-6 times and was told she would call me back. She never did. By the time I reached a manager to cancel, I was outside the "cancelation window" and they would not refund me. They kept my deposit of $1100. I have filed claims and complaints with the BBB, FL Attorney General, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator, the Bureau of Compliance, U.S. Department of Transportation and their insurance company, United States Surety Company, in Los Angeles, at 801 S. Figueroa St. If you have been scammed by these people, I suggest you do the same. Total fraud. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. BOOK A MOVING COMPANY THAT CHARGES BY WEIGHT, NOT CUBIC FEET. SCAM!

Long-distance move from Pearisburg, VA to Winter Haven, FL

Total Scam!!

As others have said they are a broker and the people they sell your bid to are crooks as well. We hired them to move my 70+year old in-laws from Virginia to Florida. Two bedroom, furniture only. Quoted $1800, 3-5 days. When they arrived they had a half full 30' trailer and harassed my elderly in-laws the whole time, to the point that their State Trooper neighbor had to come over to intervene. They told my Mother in law it was going to be $10,000, had her in tears and bullied her into giving them $500 cash that they REFUSED to give her a receipt for. I wish I could have gotten to them while they were there but we were in Florida. With ZERO communication they showed up 8 days later, totally rude again, shouting and arguing. They had “lost” 25 of the 70 boxes we started with and almost every box had something broken or was totally destroyed. They prey on the elderly and play this game of bait and switch with the price then terrify you with a huge final price so they can "negotiate" a deal. I would not hire these crooks for my worst enemy!! No one from David to Maya at the brokerage or anyone at the actual moving company was helpful or responsive! RUN! Spend a little more for peace of mind!

Worst Move Ever

WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE EVER! Also, these are not movers, according to the Florida Attorney General's office, they are moving brokers. You're essentially paying them thousands to make a few phone calls and sell your under bid move to an actual mover. I'm basically echoing the same experience that Claire F. posted, as mine was identical.

I searched for movers online March 7, 2020. I went to a googled website, and you put in the number of bedrooms, and it generates a "quote". At the time a 3 bedroom house moving 120 miles away shows up as costing $1,300-$1,900. That's just a price to get you to call, because naturally it is too good to be true. You call the company, do a talk through of your household items, and then they quote you in the $7,000 range, which is obviously much more than the price they lured you in with. Then they play the "name your price" game. So, I gave them $5,200 based on other estimates I had for the same move. They were able to "apply a military discount", and some other "discounts" and gave me a quote for $5,216.40. Obviously a far stretch from the price they lured me in with online, but understandable. Then they set you up with a phone call for another walk through/talk through inventory. The first call, the kid calling "had an emergency with his girlfriend", so he rescheduled halfway through the day before the move. He calls back the day before the move, and does the walk through inventory. He talks my wife into adding more boxes to be on the safe side, and shockingly our estimate is now $2000 more. It was concerning, but I'm two days from my house being sold, so I am in a bind at this point. He tells my wife on the first phone call it would take most of a semi-truck, and it would be one day to pack and the next morning to load. The second time he called to finish the estimate, he tells her that it would be a whole truck, and one day to pack and load. That afternoon, I get a confirmation call stating the movers would show up between 9AM-1PM. Again, I expressed my concerns, which was I sold my house, and I had to be out by Thursday. They are assuring me everything is going to be perfect.

Worst move ever. So, the day of the move someone calls me around noon to tell me they will be at my house around 3:30PM with a 26ft truck. I was beside myself. No words can describe what was going through my mind. They arrive at my house 3 hours after the time promised, and they proceed to tell my wife that we would need to pay another $4,000 to move everything. Really...the day I have to be moved out of my house, they are telling me that I need to pay another $4,000 to make it happen? Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. I spend the next few hours hearing about how they quote...cu. ft., etc. It is a complete scam.

Bottom line, my wife and I detailed everything in my house, and they talked me into exaggerating my goods to avoid this exact situation. They moved about 75% of what they quoted. 147 pieces out of the 212 pieces on my listed inventory. Needless to say, I spent around $7,200 for a partial move, and after they packed almost everything, I spent the rest of the evening through to the next morning, so I can finish moving my household goods. No one answers their customer service. The only one that would answer was the guy who gave me the original quote. Then they played the "I am a supervisor" game and they are "going to take care of me" until they closed. Needless to say, I was left with a house full of stuff to move by myself.

After speaking with the Florida Attorney General, which is quite familiar with this company, I found out they are a moving broker that advertises as an actual mover. United American Moving subcontracted out my move to US Movers for $4,200, so essentially United American Movers took my inventory, and purposely underquoted the cu. ft., so they could sell the contract cheap, and pocket $3,000 for making a few phone calls.

Dishonest Brokers

This is a brokerage company that will say anything to get your business. Dishonesty is common in this industry, but these are bald-faced liers.

On the eve of moving day, you're suppose to receive a call from the actual movers. This didn't happen in the first 20 hours of the day so I called them in case I fell asleep, but the phone had been disconnected like the entire thing was a scam. I reached out to the call center instead and they tell me that I'm out of luck because none of the brokers were reachable because they're all observing the holiday of Shavuot. After pressing them for help, they reluctantly gave me the number to the actual moving company who were running late (find one directly if you want to save a few hundred bucks).

On the day of, the movers were late, but reachable. When they arrived, they immediately took to straightening out all the BS that I was told; this seemed to be routine. I tried to get a hold of a broker again but they were still unreachable. I had to go through the time consuming process of cutting a new deal on the spot with my back against the wall. It suddenly made sense why the movers were late.

At the end, I was missing a box and it wasn't their problem. I understand that, but they sure acted like they would've cared. The actual movers deserve separate poor reviews. I guess the lesson here is that you get what you pay for and some people can be extremely dishonest.
