I recently moved from NY to NC and had the best move ever. The people I spoke to starting with the office personnel to Paul H a retired ABF employee was outstanding. I had gotten several quotes from all types of renting trucks and ABF U PACK was the best. There was no upfront costs. The driver who delivered the truck was very prosfessional and friendly as was the driver who delivered at my new residence. Only problem I had was getting the truck into my driveway. After several attempts we got it unloaded and he was on his way. If I were to move again I would definetly use ABF again. i have told several people they are the best. Thank you again Mr Hall for your tips. .
Jean,
Thank you for using U-Pack and for your great review. We love hearing from our customers! ABF Freight certainly has some of the best drivers in the industry. I love hearing that they're still helping out, even after retirement! Enjoy your new home in North Carolina! Becky H.
U-Pack made our move from NJ to FL a worry-free experience. They did everything they promised to do in a prompt and efficient manner. The sales staff were very clear and concise as to what would be done, when it would be done and the costs involved. Pick up and delivery were punctual and the staff were extremely courtious and helpful. Everyone was a pleasure to deal with. The delivery person even suggested putting small pads under the pod legs so my driveway brick wouldn't be scratched. Very thoughtful! I would absolutely recommend U-Pack.
I had never used UPack before my major move from CA to WI. I really cannot say enough good things about the service and the price! The service was exceptional from the departure location to the destination. From the beginning in was so easy to get set up and they did everything for me since I was at a loss for what size I will need. The destination facility was above and beyond great in working with me on an unload time frame. I had checked other pod companies including doing it myself with UHaul and UPack was cheaper than anyone (including if I had done it myself with UHaul). If you are looking for a moving company (like this where you load yourself), really..look no further. I will use nobody else in the future. Wonderful to use a moving company and have no worries other than what you already have to do to make a major move. Extremely happy!
Thank you for moving with us, Traci! We're so glad everything went smoothly. We appreciate your business and hope you are enjoying your new home in Wisconsin!
I have used this company twice to move and the first time was great it was an easy decision to use them again. I was wrong!! I used a Relocube for my move and they LOST IT! Not just a few items, then entire cube is missing. It is likely I will never see any of my stuff again. And, they still have not offered any compensation. you can guarantee I will be telling everyone how terrible my experience was. .
I'm very sorry for your experience and would like to look into your situation further--if you haven't already, would you please send your move info to social@upack.com?
Upack was great for our move from South Carolina up to Maryland. They gave us an outstanding deal - $320 for a 500 mi move, shipping center to shipping center. Considering that was inline with Uhaul pricing, it seemed like a no-brainer to not have to drive that stuff 7-8 hours. Both shipping centers were industrial but efficient and the staff was prompt. I also learned that ABF (logistics company behind Upack) was a union shop - if that means anything to you (it does to me). If you have the kind of DIY personality that doesn't mind getting your hands dirty, shipping to these centers saved us about 60-70% off the door-to-door price. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Thanks for the great review and description on making a terminal-to-terminal move! DIY moving like this is a great cost-saving option. We appreciate your comments (and your business!)
I had a really good experience with U-pack. The container was dropped off on time, picked up when I was done packing it. I liked the idea of not having to drive the stuff myself. It got to its destination on time. The container was dropped off when promised and picked up when I was done unloading. There was great communication and the drivers where very professional. Would definitely recommend this company.
We used ABF to move from the Northwest suburbs of Chicago to the St Pete/Clearwater area on the west coast of Florida. Can't say enough good things about the dispatch. People at both the terminals involved are polite, understanding (the people at the Chicago end even went out of their way to make the drop-off and pick-up times work best for our schedule). The drivers responsible for drop off and pick up at both ends were completely professional and explained our obligations to us very clearly. We did have a couple of boxes slightly damp (there had been some monumental rains in the area during that week. We had purchased the insurance to cover us. Had we needed to make a claim, but it was so minimal it wasn't any big deal!). We had a quote based on 13'. Used only 8'. We were only charged what we used. No weight involved. Yes, we packed the bowling balls and the books. Great way to go!
If I move again I will use U-Pak. The entire experience was professional from the web site to the delivery and pick up. Any one would be foolish to choose any other mode of transportation of their belongings from household to business moves. Being responsible for the packing and loading of my belongings into the containers I knew that everything was done to my specifications and would deliver well. For those that don't know how to pack for a move, or don't have the time, there is professional help easily available. This is the best experience I have ever had with a move. Thank you U-Pak.
Diane, We're happy that you had such a great experience with U-Pack! Thanks so much for the great review. If you ever have to move again, we look forward to helping!
I researched every option for my interstate move of over 1,000 miles. The full service moving companies were more pricier, but would provide the loading, packing, and transportation. U Haul gave me more loading/unloading flexibility; however, I would have to tow my car and drive the truck. U-Pack offered a 28 ft trailer, and charged what was used. I ended up using approximately 24 feet.
They delivered the trailer to my house and allowed up to three days for loading. They advertise a three to five business day delivery. My shipment arrived at their destination terminal on the second business day. It was delivered to my new home the following day.
Price-wise, U Haul is less expensive; however, I was able to load more onto the 28 ft trailer, AND I did not pay for gas or drive the truck. It was worth the few hundred dollars I would have saved.
The company quickly responded to all email inquiries. Both the Pick-up and Destination reps (Old Dominion Freight) were personable and helpful; and the drivers were also helpful.
Strongly recommend this company, and I will use them again is approx six months when I complete my move.
Mr. Lyme, We're so glad to hear that your moving experience met your expectations, and that you'll be using us again. Thank you for the great review, and best wishes in your new home!
After contemplating another long move from Montana to Oklahoma, I started searching for alternatives. After a few emails, I decided that U-Pack was the best choice. After completing the process, I'm completely satisfied. The whole experience has been outstanding. The price was only slightly more than a U-Haul rental and might be about the same when you consider fuel costs. The whole process was timely and the delivery was actually ahead of schedule. Heck, I never considered getting this move completed in one week. What started on Monday is now over as of Friday evening. My father is in his new retirement apartment and I can sit back and enjoy a beer. Why? Because I just completed one of the most stress free moves I've ever experience. Don't hesitate to use U-Pack and the related services. .
Paul, Thanks so much for the great review! We're glad to hear the move was so successful. Please pass on our best wishes to your father -- we hope he enjoys his new retirement apartment in Oklahoma!
Put items in storage on July 31st. $495.00 per month. ABF delivered items on October 1st All good. Picked up empty trailor October 3rd. Charged my card $495.00 again! for 3 days. Finally received a credit for $395.00 - $100 for 2 partial days and one full days use? Then come November 3rd they charged my card $495.00 AGAIN!! Evidently the trailor was never logged in at the terminal when it was returned or something like that. May take up to a week to process the credit. Didn't take a week to get the money from my account though. Oh and they did say they were sorry. .
Mark,
Thank you for choosing U-Pack! I apologize for any inconvenience during your move, but glad to hear the billing issue was resolved. Please contact me directly at social@upack.com should you have any other questions--I'm happy to help!
Best wishes in your new home,
Autumnn M.
U-Pack Moving.
Upack was smooth, efficient, and inexpensive compared to other moving services. I used 5 feet of a 28 foot trailer. I was quoted for 7, but they took money off due to me using less space. I was nervous with it being a cross-country move, but everything went as expected. Customer service was great, and the move was very fast. I literally had to race my shipment across the country. ;).
Grant, Thanks so much for sharing your U-Pack cross-country move experience. We're glad to hear that it went well! The "pay for the space you use" concept is definitely a good thing when you can fit into less than you originally thought! Best wishes in your new home!
We did a cross country move from Brooklyn to Seattle and got many quotes and settled on ABF because it was the most affordable and recommended by a friend. ABF was prompt in both the pick-up and drop-off and the drivers in both places were so helpful and kind. They made coordinating an otherwise stressful move a breeze. They quoted us for 12 feet but we only used 7 feet. It was a nice surprise for our final bill to be lower than what was quoted! We'd use them again in an instant.
Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the great review, and thank you for choosing U-Pack! We hope you're enjoying your new place in Seattle. Best wishes in your new hometown!
The movers arrived beyond the agreed time, and could not have exclusive use of the elevator. Throughout the day, the local mover continued to insist they were on their way. I phoned UPACK for a replacement but received none. After arriving the movers were slow and complaining leading to a 4 hour bill for a job that should have been complete in 1 hour. Will NEVER use them again. I hired my own movers on the destination side and the trailer was unloaded in 45 minutes. I phoned UPAK to speak to a Supervisor and received no return call.
Hi Deborah,
I'm very sorry to hear of any problems with your movers. Because U-Pack is a self-move service, we do not offer moving labor. I apologize for any misunderstanding and would be happy to look into your situation to see how I can help; please email your info to me directly at social@upack.com. Thank you, Autumnn M.
I am so angry with them that I'm signing up just to post this.I'm on hold with them for 30 minutes. No response on when the box will be delivered.OK - they just hung up.OK - got on the phone - and they lost track of 1 of the 3 cubes.I asked where is the cube and he answered "How am I supposed to know?""What?!?!" This is your job to know!"And he just put me on hold again.. RIDICULOUS!!HORRIBLE SERVICE! They were supposed to deliver this morning and we even hired movers to come. No delivery. Last response was that it will come later in the afternoon. REALLY? SERIOUSLY? no explanation or apology. We hired moved, served and paid for elevator used, and to add oil to fire, is not responsive. How can such a company operate?AND yelling at the customer?!?! Are you serious? And saying you don't know where the cube is!?!?I don't think I've been so angry at a service in my life..
Jimmy, I'm very sorry for any problems with your move. I would like to help--could you send your move info and the names of those you spoke with (and the location) to me directly at social@upack.com? Someone will be in touch shortly.
Ohio portion of customer service was EXCELLENT - very personable and helpful, answered all of my questions. Unfortunately, the Indianapolis portion was only so-so. It took U-Pack WAY TOO LONG to pick up the empty trailer from my apt. complex, citing they were very busy. Overall - an average experience or in otehr words pretty good up until the very end.
Thank you for choosing U-Pack, Dr. Baughman. I'm very pleased to read that you experienced great customer service -- that's exactly what we work toward! I'm sorry, though, for the delay in picking up the empty trailer at your destination. We understand that timely pick-up and delivery are important to our customers. Thank you for your review and best wishes in your new city!
I am sharing my experience because I had a hard time finding reviews of people who had similar moving requirements to mine. Hopefully this will help others who are in my situation. My circumstances were that we needed to move our 4BR house (with full basement and garage) under fairly short notice. We also needed a storage solution because our new house wasn't going to be ready for 45 days. If you have a smaller household you have a number of options (PODs, Upack Cube, etc). But with a lot of belongings there are limited choices. Basically you can pay for items to be off-loaded in a warehouse (with a full-service company), rent a huge storage unit, or complete a "trailer hold" (where they park your trailer in a facility and wait until you are ready to receive). I had heard horror stories about the amount of damage that can come with the off-loading process. So that didn't seem appealing. I was nervous about the trailer-hold because of my stuff not being in a temperature controlled environment. But that seemed the best of the options avaialble. The full-service mover I liked best also recommended the trailer-hold. We moved from Virginia to North Carolina; roughly 200 miles. We packed the trailers in late September and received them just before Thanksgiving. I really didn't know how much space I would need. I was sure it was less than one trailer but no more than two. This wokred our perfectly with Upack where you only pay for the portion of the trailer that you use. I scheduled the pick-up with Upack in mid-September for a late Septmber move-date. We needed two trailers but didn't have the space on our street for both at one time. So I needed one to be dropped, filled, and then replaced with the empty one. I scheduled one to be dropped on a Thursday morning, and the other to be dropped on Friday morning. In our area Old Dominion handled the freight for Upack. The person in dispatch was helpful with scheduling, but they provide a four hour window (which was longer than I would have liked). The first trailer arrived at the end of the window (noon; from an 8am-Noon slot). The second trailer arrived at the start of the window (8am). Because of some problems with my local movers the fir trailer wasn't filled. The driver was super cooperative and found somehere else in town to drop the trailer. The guy in dispatch was fairly grumpy though when I called back to get them to pick-up. However I did cause them some inconvenience. They ended up not being able to pick-up the trailer at the close of Friday so I had them take it on Monday. I had the whole weekend to get the second trailer loaded (which was only around 1/2 filled anyway). When they pick up the trailers they put a seal on the divider (or the pack of the truck if you are using the full unit). The drivers did a great job explaining the process. Old Dominion didn't have as "full" or "solid" a divider as the Upack website shows (but ultimately this didn't make a difference for me). My trailers arrived in North Carolina promptly. They provided a tracking number so I could follow the process. But as I mentioned above I needed them to be held for 45 days (so I was in no hurry). Before I discuss the unloading I'll share the financial side. I paid $1,377 for the transport, plus $990/month for both trailers (total). I spent around $700 to pay local movers to load/unload the trailers. So my total was around $4,000 with the Upack option. The cheapest full-service quote I received was roughly $9,500. So I saved $5,500 going this route. It required more logistically for me (coordinating some details of the process), but with a big pay-off. The dispatch for the off-load was fantastic. The guys in Greensboro with Old Dominion were super. Very professional and accomodating. Instead of a four hour window they told me exactly when they would be there, and arrived within minutes. It was the same story on the pickup. The driver was excellent. My biggest worry was whether my belongings would be in terrible shape after sitting outside at a terminal for 60 days. The weather probably helped my situation since they were in North Carolina during October/November. But still there were some hot days to start (85 degrees) and some cold ones at the end (20 degrees). We have not opened all our boxes but we had no breakage or damaage at all to the furniture. This was with using "average" movers to do the loading. The guys I hired (independent local company) had some experience but weren't as careful as I would have liked. However when we off-loaded my stuff the furniture was in great shape. This was the case both with the trailer that was full, and the one that was partial (in which other materials was shipped). I saw no real sign of road-dust. There was no significant shifiting of boxes/furniture. Everything was in place and in great shape. As we continue to unpack I may find some damage but I'll attribute that to our packers and movers..not Upack/Old Dominion. So to sum-up..it was a great moving experience (considering all the headaches and hassles that are just part of this process). Upack and Old Dominion customer service were excellent. And I saved a lot of money! I highly recommend this process for those in similar circumstances to mine. PS We could have saved on some of our storage costs by offloading the partial trailer. However the cost of the rental wasn't much more than paying someone to unload and renting a storage unit. And this was a much easier solution.
This was my first time moving without using a U-Haul and I will never go back to that way again.. I am a recent college graduate so I've been moving around a lot over the past few years. Recently, I moved from Detroit, MI to Washington, D.C.-- for the trip out there I used a U-Haul with an auto transport. It was terribly expensive and so stressful driving through the mountains in the winter with a trailer behind me that I vowed to never do it again. I decided to move back up to the Detroit area after being in DC for just over a year. I had initially looked into using a moving company (too expensive) and then a friend recommended PODS. I was excited about the idea until I called to get a quote.. It was about four times the price of my U-Pack ReloCubes. I was extremely discouraged that this point because it looked like I was going to have to use another U-Haul, which I was dreading. Luckily-- My neighbors were moving out of state at the same time and I saw their ReloCube in the parking spot next to mine and decided to give them a call. I was SHOCKED by the way I was treated on the phone.. They were so friendly, helpful, professional and just genuinely interested in helping make the move easier for me. I booked my 2 ReloCubes that day.. For LESS than the cost of a U-Haul (without even factoring in gas). The guy who dropped them off made things very easy for me. He placed them strategically so I could fit them both in one parking spot and still open both of them without getting in the way, and he explained how everything worked, etc. I loaded them up in a couple days and hit the road. On my way out of town I called to let them know that the cubes were ready for pick up and they were on the road right behind me later that day. They arrived with everything inside perfectly unharmed about 24 hours after I had arrived. The driver made things work with my new small drive way and was very knowledgeable about city codes, etc. and how I needed to place them. He made everything work so that I could access both cubes, without touching the sidewalk, and I could still open my garage door. Overall, U Pack made this entire process 100% easier on me. I would definitely recommend them and I will be using them again for my next move. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your great experience, Rachel! We hope you enjoy the holidays while you're getting settled back in Detroit. Thank you for choosing U-Pack!
Perhaps the only affordable alternative to driving yourself.
Everything went well, but I felt that I was very much on my own to coordinate with the origin and destination service centers on all aspects of the move. I also felt that Old Dominion as a carrier, though they were good, was yet another third party that I had to coordinate with independently of U-Pack. I selected U-Pack based on some factors like real-time tracking of the trailer which ended up not being available because the load was subbed out to Old Dominion. In all, U-Pack could do quite a bit to improve the service by making the process more seamless. I'd definitely do it again if I had to do a long distance move, but it's not quite the seamless service it's portrayed to be on the website.
That said, it's probably the best option at this time - Especially if you need quick turnaround and/or you can't get a parking permit for PODS/1-800-Pack-Rat. Additionally, I think U-Pack gave us a discount on the overall cost over what they could have charged, so they were even less expensive than expected (we used more of the traiiler than they estimated we would).
Thank you for moving with us, Isaac! So glad your move went well. I am passing along your feedback to our Quality team--we use these reviews to continually improve our service. Enjoy the holidays in your new home!
I recently just moved from Phoenix, AZ to Portland, OR. I was really nervous at first because I've never used this type of moving service before, but I did some research and am really glad I used U-Pack. It was such a stress reliever to not have to worry about one more thing when you're moving. I scheduled a pick up of my cube on a Friday and got a call that it already arrived on Monday. I wasn't even scheduled to be in Portland until that Wednesday so I was quite surprised at how fast it went out.
The process is so simple - get a quote, fill out form, schedule relocube drop off/pick up, they will call you when your cube has arrived and you recieve your relocube. I would also recommend that everyone read the Move Plan that they provide for you when you order your relocube, all the information you need is in there. I will definitely recommend U-Pack to anyone that is considering a big move. .
We moved 4 bedroom house OH to FL and from start to finish this was the best experience we had. The container was delivered on-time and driver explained everything and we took loading help from some movers. We liked the idea of paying only for the cubic ft we used in the trailer. Once loaded ABF picked up the trailer and delivered it within 5 days. After unloading with the help of movers, ABF picked up the trailer. It was the best move we had experienced. Thank you U-Pack.
I originally was looking at getting a POD or a uhaul. I stumbled across Upack when I googled movers. I am so glad I did and thankful for the positive reviews that led me to them. They were easy to work with and made the process so easy. They also are a very cost affordable option compared to others. I called a rep and explained we were moving 800 miles and had a 5 bedroom house to move. After explaining my situation he explained how a truck could be dropped off at my house and left there for as long as I needed to pack. (like a POD, but an entire truck). I called them when I was done loading and they took it to my new destination. As there was a difference in the closing dates on our old house and new house, I needed the truck to be temporarily stored at my new location before delivering to my house. They stored it a week for me which was all included in my price quote and delivered the truck when needed. After unloading I contacted them again and they came and picked up the truck. These guys make the process EASY. They are so friendly and they are very affordable. By the way if you do look at some other companies, make sure you compare the dimensions of the trucks. The UPack truck is bigger as explained on their website and gives you several more cubic feet of space for the exact same footage of truck space. IE. a 26 foot truck is not equal to a 26 foot truck at other companies. You will be glad you used these guys. I had never heard of them before this move, but would gladly use them again.
I'm glad U-Pack worked so well for you and that we had the flexibility you needed for a successful move. Thanks for the tip on truck sizes, too. A lot of people don't realize the difference and think the move will be more expensive with us, when in reality, they would use less space on a trailer.
Honestly I was impressed with U-Pack from start to finish. The guys on the call center knew there stuff and gave me several options so I could get the lowest price, they helped us when we forgot to bring a lock. The moved our relocube so we could unload it at our convenience. They were very helpful and friendly and just good folks to work with. The price to ship from terminal to terminal was much lower than renting a U-Haul or a rental truck or PODS.
Daniel, thanks for such a great review! We are so glad that your move to the Lone Star State was a good one. We appreciate your business and wish you all the best! - Erica D.
What an amazing experience! Let me say..every person I came in contact with was incredible. Very personable and willing to help. From the drivers to the guys in dispatch.
We had a few items that were a little dinged up but that was due to our packing. Nearly everything we have was completely fine. We just got lazy toward the end of packing and some of those items weren't packed as tightly. Our fault completely but even so, there wasn't anything that was majorly damaged at all.
I will use them again and will recommend them to everyone I know.
This was a great experience and made OUR move pretty painless. Thanks for everything!
I was very very happy with my experience. Every step of the process was handled professionally and promptly. Information provided from the quote through the delivery was accurate in every way - step by step guides provided through email and online about how the process would go, etc. Everyone was very communicative by phone both at pickup and delivery. Items arrived earlier than expected, and in perfect condition. I really liked that I was able to track my shipment all the way across the country. Would use U-Pack again in a heartbeat. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I'm happy that your move went so well. One of U-Pack's goals is to make the 'moving' part the easiest part of the move.. It sounds like we met that goal for you.
