Long-distance move from Illinois to Utah

First Move.

As a college student, this was my first move ever and I have to say it went better than I thought it would! ABF did a great job, from customer service to being on time for pick up and delivery. They were able to move my stuff accross the country in 4 business days. While there were other companies that offered similar services for less, I didn't want to wait 10-14 business days for my posseions when I moved with no furniture. They were nice enough to give me a student discount, which saved me $75. I would recommend ABF to anyone, just be sure to confirm everything once you have it set up! I ended up having to change my destination address with them after I had initially set up the move. I called U-Pack and let them know but they hadn't notified ABF of the change until I called and made sure everything was correct. It was a small error, that was easily fixed once communication was clear between all parties. My stuff arrived at the right address so really that's all that matters.  .

Amazing customer service.

I have nothing but good things to say about abf upack. If you don't mind packing and loading your things (in which case you control safety of your items) this is the way to go. Their customer service underpromised and overdelivered. They originally stated my belongings would be dropped off on a Friday and then CALLED ME back to ask if it would be ok to drop it off a day earlier. Everyone, including drivers, was so polite, something you don't see much of these days. And most important not a single thing of mine was broken. Everything went as planned and I could not have been happier.

Great Service Great Price.

Wow - I have to echo everyone's comments - ABF UPack provided very professional, easy and affordable service.  I HATE moving and have done it many many times. I've used everything from full out moving services that pack for you to friends with trucks.  This was by far the easiest, most drama-free and reasonable professional service I have encountered.  I kept waiting for something to go wrong, but it didn't.  The details of my move changed many times before it actually happened, but each time I called, the customer service reps I spoke to were courteous and responsive.  I thought, compared to other moving services, their costs are quite reasonable.
I was moving the contents of storage units from one state to another and ended up taking and picking up my stuff at ABF terminals.  If there was one negative, it would be that for some reason (liability, perhaps) the storage unit facilities I dealt with in each locataion do not allow these pods to sit on their property.  Also, I checked in one city, and there is a rule against leaving them on the street at the curb.  So, check before you make your plans. This system works best if you have a driveway large enough to park one on your property while you pack it.
Still, I would definitely use ABF again. .

Moaks, I'm so glad to hear you had a great experience. Thanks for pointing out that there are sometimes parking restrictions with storage units--definitely something to check on prior to a move! Informative details like that is what helps prepare others when they check out moving company reviews. Thank you for moving with U-Pack, we appreciate your business!

ABF U-Pack Moving Service.

Well, my Mom's stuff is in transit and in Chicago, Illinois as it makes it's way out to Portland, Oregon. I was VERY PLEASED with the ABF U-Pack Moving service that we had in packing my Mom's stuff. The trailer was clean, the ramp was sturd..y and pretty safe, the divider walls that you put in were pretty easy over-all, and my Mom's stuff (with the exception of a couple of things) was able to fit in a ten feet wide by five feet long space. Aside from the great help I had from family and friends to load the truck, the thing that impressed me the most about the experience of using the company and it's service was the professionalism of the driver. His name was Doug O'Connor and he had been doing his job for 20 years (you could tell by the way he smoothly maneuvered that massive rig to parallel park next to my Mom' house). He was friendly, put the ramp down for us, and made arrangements with his supervisors to be able to come back after a few hours so that we wouldn't have to leave the trailer sitting there for a few days (they usually leave them 3 days and then pick them up). What was even cooler is that when he picked up the trailer, he was willing to wait for me as I proceeded to go to Lowe's twice to get a proper lock that would fight the hole of the divider wall. After my second failed attempt, he even drove the truck with me to Lowe's and waited in the parking lot and nicely explained that this happens often. He was a pretty cool guy. The people I worked with on the phone were also nice to talk to and the DVD video about the U-Pack service was excellent! It will be interesting to see how my Mom's stuff is when it gets to it's destination, but if there is any damage to anything, it will be due to our error in packing the trailer, which thanks in large part to Allan Smith and my Brother, we packed the thing pretty high and tight. If you are needing a service and are moving across country or a few states a way, I think this is a great service and cheaper ($2,400) than driving a U-Haul yourself, which is what my Mom and Brother originally were thinking of doing (from New York to Oregon would have cost around $6,000 or so with gas, u-haul, food and lodging, etc.). Two Thumbs UP! http://www.abfs.com/default.aspSee More.

Damages Items and Wrongly Bills.

I would highly advise against using this company for moving if you value accuracy in the amount you are billed or if you value your items not being destroyed in the process of moving at no fault of your own. It is no joke that my family was in tears when we opened the trailer and saw many of the items we owned destroyed. I had multiple problems with Upack. First, I was charged for the wrong amount for my trailer usage. This cost was significantly more than was justified given the space I used (an extra $792). Luckily, I caught this huge error, but I was out of money on my credit card until they reversed this extra charge. Customer service was helpful in resolving this and I was refunded this extra amount, however I should not have to spend part of my time moving attempting to resolve billing discrepancies with U-pack. Second, my items were significantly damaged during the move solely due to the negligence of U-pack. Strangely, a large metal bar that I did not own ended up behind the bulkhead and on top of my furniture. According to one ABF employee, this was from another shipment in the same trailer. This metal bar resulted in a $500 desk being totally destroyed and many other items becoming severely damaged. Again, customer service was helpful and I received an insurance compensation that was only 0.10 per pound (I received less than $30 for a $500 desk). Of course, this was not sufficient to cover my items cost. It was very distressful to have items you just paid to shipped totally destroyed due to U-pack's incompetence with no fault of my own.Overall, I spent over $3038 to move my items across the country and was left with pieces of furniture and hours on the phone trying to fix things with U-pack.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Indiana

It never arrived!

Booked my Relocube months in advance. even received a letter confirming that the delivery was to occur on Friday 4-8pm as I have requested. Working 12 hour shifts monday to saturday. I only have sunday to move my stuff into the cube. Whent Friday came, the ReloCube has not arrived and I had to call their service center to find out that the ReloCube was not arriving! Their ONLY driver was apparently injured. Its a valid reason assuming its true, but I would have appreciated them calling me and telling me that it was not arriving as opposed to allowing to wait for nothing. There was no appology from their staff. The only appology I got was when I cancelled my order. I had to spend more money as now I needed to move ASAP. I would not recommend this company to my worse enemy.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Wisconsin

Terrible.

I really regret doing business with ABF. They pushed back our delivery 3 times, while they promised ontime delivery. Therefore, I had to reschedule my movers and pay fine for that. It was the last week of June, which is the busiest time for moving and all of movers are completely booked. Then their truck broke. Huge attitude problme whenever I called.  Please, Please pay a little bit more and DO NOT hire them. .

Amir,
I'm very sorry to hear about any problems with your move. This isn't the experience we wanted to leave you with! While delivery windows are estimates, we do offer a guaranteed time frame for customers on a tight schedule or have moving help lined up. If you opted for this, I can certainly get that corrected.
I also apologize for any equipment issues and would like to investigate your situation further. Would you please send over your move information so I can look into this for you? I'll also have our Quality team review your move for future improvements as well. I appreciate the opportunity to address your experience and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Autumnn M.

Long-distance move from Virginia to Pennsylvania

Wonderful Service All-around.

We had previously used PODS to move from OH to VA in 2013.  When we learned we would be relocating to the Williamsport, PA area in June of 2014, we again sought out PODS but learned that PODS did not service our new area.  The PODS representative, however, recommended that I try calling their competitor, U-PACK.  My husband and I had been completely satifsfied with PODS so we were both a bit let down to hear that news and leery of trying a new company, U-PACK.  We need not have been!  Our experience from start to end with U-PACK could not have been more pleasant or efficient and the cost was cheaper.  We had used one PODS unit (2100 sq ft house) in which we had to utilize every bit of space from top to bottom.  This time, we opted to utilize a full ABF 28' trailer (rather than several relo cubes) and by doing so, did not have to load "high" which we believe helped to prevent items from shifting and being damaged.  (Of Note:  you can reserve to use less of an AB trailer but should you want or need to utilize more space during the loading process, the cost per feet to do so is very reasonable.)  Naturally, one must be careful in properly tying down items with ropes and bungee cords and we have learned to keep and use old blankets, comforters, and mattress pads to protect furniture during our moves.  Each U-Pack customer service representative we came into contact with was exceedingly courteous, knowledgeable and helpful to include the ABF trailer drivers themselves. Our trailers were delivered and picked up on time.  In fact, our trailer was picked up in the Williamsburg, VA area on a Thursday and was already in PA on Friday (we actually think we passed it en route)!  Since U-PACK does not deliver over the weekend, we did have to wait until Monday morning for the truck to be delivered to our new location but it gave us enough time to clean and prepare the new home for our househould belongings.  I would highly recommend using U-PACK and we will utilize them over PODS whenever given the chance for our next major move (and we know there will be one again within the next few years).   I would also recommend taking the time to read all of the literature U-PACK sends regarding packing either the relo cubes and/or the ABF trailer as well as suggesting one reviews how to uninstall and install the bulk heads and loading ramps if using the trailer (videos all easily located on YouTube).  Happy Moving!

Hi Kimberly,
Thank you for moving with us! I'm so glad to hear you had a great move. You make excellent points about the importance of tying your items down and using blankets to pad/protect your furniture. Thanks again for choosing U-Pack. Best wishes in Pennsylvania!

Broken furniture.

ABF service was ok the truck was on time but my contents were very damaged.  They put heavy items on my marble dresser top and broke it in half, boxes clearly marked fragile were smashed and contents all broken.  Many items cannot be replaced or fixed. Although I don't necessarly blame ABF for this I blame moving staffers.  So if you do use ABF DO NOT USE MOVING STAFFERS.  they are not PROFESSIONAL loaders. they advertise that they are trained professional loaders but believe me they are a staffing company with day labors. Also when I called to let them know of the damage they blamed it on transit. In other words ABF RECOMMENDS THEM AND THEY DO HORRIBLE WORK AND THEN BLAME IT ON ABF.  ABF 'S trucks are very big so if you don't think you can load it yourself then either hire day labors yourself (like Home Depot) or go with a pod of some sort so you can take your time and load it yourself. kristine c.

Long-distance move from Georgia to Illinois

Unfullfilled Promises!!

I had booked U-Pack to move from Ga to Il. After speaking with several salespeople, I was assured that we were set and scheduled. It was explained to us that the trailer would be delivered to our location 3 days prior to the actual move, and if we wanted a sooner pick up to simply call them. And, after the trailer was delivered to the designated location, it could be unpacked and moved by them again. NEVER once did they indicate that when the trailer was taken to the secondary move site, it had to remain on site for a MINIMUM of 24 hours before removal. Obvilously, most storage locations do NOT want a trailer taking up space and we had to call over 50 loactions to find one that would allow this to happen. It was a neighboring town beside the U-Pack distribution center and about 1 mile from the original storage location. When I called back I spoke with Jory, explained our difficulty with finding a storage center that was willing to work with us and updated the address. We were almost complete and at the last minute he says, "Oh, I think we have a problem. We do not deliver to the town that you indicated your storage unit was at." Needless to say, I was shocked, frustrated, and he offered NO solutions other than to hold it at their distribution center and hire another mover to take it to the storage facility that was less than 5 miles away! He would not tell me why they could not deliver to the neighboring town, and offered NO solutions! What a waste of a whole day calling to find a facility that would allow their 28 ft trailer to stay overnight and then he had the nerve to tell me we were not in their area?? DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! It is not worth the hassles of using their sister company for the labor of moving and the runaround with the poor communication. You are better off renting a uhaul or doing what we did and using a real moving company like Bekins!
