Long-distance move from New York to Puerto Rico

Very happy.

They offered me the best quote, but I was hesitant because I thought "well there may be a reason for it being so cheap" but read reviews online and I called them. In the initial called they explained everything, the process, the shipping options, what to do upon delivery, in sum everything. They gave me a quote but didn't push to make the sales, which I was surprised. I hung up and called again a few days later and decided to go with them.
The cube came they day we set up for it and when we were done loading it, we call and immediately they picked it up. They say it will take up to 11 days to deliver it to PR from Buffalo. In my case it took them 10 days. I wasn't actually expecting the cube already when they called that it was ready for delivery. We ask if it can be delivered another day and they did.
On the delivery date, they told us they delivery truck will be at the public stroage facilities from 9:30 to 10:00am. Howevery they delivery guy called us 9:55am that he was on his way. He actually arrived at 10:10. Not bad considering how bad traffic is in the San Juan area.
Everything inside was in good conditions, but very dusty, actually like a black dust. At  first we thought things we will be destroyed since they bring the cube in a Flat Bed truck. The cube was downloaded to the ground in an angle. We thought that everything inside was going to be shifted towards the cube's door. But thanks to the fact everything was very well strapped and very tight, nothing broke. You have to make sure to pack the cube tight, to strap and bubble-wrap everything, since they don't have insurance for things that break inside during the move. And things that can't get dirty, like matresses, make sure to get covers for them.
What I like the most how easy they made the whole process, basically was. Call, set up the cubes delivery date. Upload. Then they call and setup the arrival time, download, call again to pick up the cube. That's it. .

Long-distance move from Alabama to Texas

Will not use again.

I did a lot of research before I booked ABF U-Pack and, for the most part, saw good reviews. I'd like to clear some things up for someone who may end up in the same situation I came from.
First, I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. My biggest furniture is my bed's headboard and my couch. When I booked the ReloCube, I advised of the 1 bedroom apt, it recommended 1 cube. Let me warn you, if you are coming from a 1 bedroom apartment, with average furniture, say a couple medium bookcases, tv stand, couch, bed and headboard, dining room table, several boxes, you may want to opt for 2 cubes. (Or go with a different option altogether.) Now, believing my things would fit in 1 cube may have been disillusional on my part, but I only had other reviews and what the company advised me of. I had to leave a couple small pieces of furniture and still take 2 car loads of things for my move.
Second, they estimated a time of delivery between 12-4 on Monday. They arrived at 5:30pm. An hour and a half late from the quoted delivery time. The most frustrating part is that I had to keep calling the distribution center to find out when they'd be there, when it should've been them calling me and letting me know. I can understand being late, just let me know. The other unfortunate part is that I had friends and family waiting to help me move, so they waited several hours with me before it got there. The delivery driver didn't seem to know that he had to deliver my cube until last minute because I had told him how I had called earlier to confirm and he stated he had been several hours from the location at that point. Very shady the way they handled it. But, I was already in too deep.
On the website, it quotes you 2 business day transit times. I had them pick it up on a Tuesday (I called early that morning), and I figured it would arrive to my destination by Thursday, latest Friday. I call the distribution center on Thursday at noon to confirm it's in transit to my city, and it's in a completely different city. Lisa, the customer service rep was extremely nice and as helpful as she could be, but ultimately called me early Friday morning to let me know it wouldn't arrive until over the weekend to them and I would receive it on Monday. No estimated time.
At this point you can imagine my frustration because I arrived in the city late thursday night, with friends and family in tow (from 3 states over, mind you, that were leaving Sunday night) to help me unload the ReloCube. Lisa recommended I called customer service due to the issue but ultimately suggested that it's only an estimated time of arrival. I received it on Monday. I again, had to call to get an ETA. The driver who dropped off my ReloCube was excellent! I can't remember his name, but he was the best thing about my experience with the company. Ultimately, if you choose to go through the company, make sure to book extra ReloCubes (I don't think they charge you if you book an extra one but don't end up using it. Definitely may want to really check on that though!) and if you have friends, family or movers that are unloading the ReloCube with you, pay the extra for the guarantee. Because they were late, I had to book local movers at the last minute and cost more out of pocket. Hope this review helps!!

Meshee, I'm very sorry to hear about your experience. That's not the overall impression we want you to have about U-Pack! I would like to have our Quality team review your move as part of our continual improvement process; would you please send your move info to social@upack.com?

You are correct about reserving 2 Cubes and only paying for the one(s) you use as well as the estimated transit vs. Guaranteed service options; thank you for sharing these tips for future readers. We appreciate your business and hope that you are getting settled into your new home. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to include those in your email. Long-distance move from Colorado to Arkansas

Did NOT deliver to location as promised!!

We were relocating to a home we had never seen in person. On the day of delivery they sat told us "sorry we can't make it to your house." Well how is that our problem? Well we got a trailer and the driver helped unload the cube. There were multiple things damaged. We carefully packed the cube; it happened durning shipment of course. This is the first and last experience with company. They didn't even try to make it right with us. No partial refund or anything. They promised a service and it was not delivered. Doesn't seem right to me.

Service cost: $1100

Official company response

I'm very sorry to hear about your recent moving experience. If you had a door-to-door move reserved with us and ended up picking up your items at the local terminal, it would be a lower rate. If the price was not adjusted for you, please send your move info to social@upack.com and I will look into it ASAP. I apologize again for any problems with your move; please don't hesitate to include further details in your email as I will be forwarding your situation to our Quality Manager for review. Thank you, Autumnn M.

Moving from Texas to New York.

Our experience was so good that I just wanted to share that. People were very nice on the phone and helped us with all the information that we needed. Our shipment was even earlier then expected! The weather wasn't helping at all, but it came on time. Big compliments! Price was reasonble and we didn't got hidden fees. I would defiantly recommend them!

Thank you for moving with us, Laura! Glad to hear everything went well in spite of the weather. We appreciate you and wish you the best in your new town!

Long-distance move from Missouri to Maine

Super pleased.

Communication was excellent, and this company was so very patient with me as I had to keep post-poning the date of my move.  I really liked the idea that I could padlock the bulkhead between my belongings and anything else they might ship in the space behind it.  The truck was a newer one, so had no problems with dirt or leaks.  Everything arrived in great shape, and the price was far lower than any competitor..PLUS..it left me free to drive my own pet-laden car!!  I highly recommend this company.  Lots of work to pack every single thing you own and then load and unload the truck, but the savings was very well worth it.

Service cost: $4500

Official company response

Hi Carol, thank you so much for moving with us! I'm glad to hear everything went smoothly. I hope you (and your pets) are settling in and enjoying your new home! :) Thanks again, Autumnn M.

They Steal Your Belongings Avoid Them.

AVOID ABF U-pack.
AVOID ABF U-pack.
AVOID ABF U-pack.
They steal your belongings, and they do not accept responsibility. We rented a U-Pack from Ottawa, Canada to Milwaukee, WI. When we received our box, our TV was missing. We contacted them they said you have no proof, we do not accept your complaint. It was obvious, they themselves steal people's belongings by opening the lock that you put on your U-Pack. That's why they ask you to put your own lock, so they get rid of the liability.
SHAME ON YOU ABF.

Service cost: $1000

Official company response

Mani, I am so sorry to hear this. If you would, please send your move info to me at social@upack.com and I will have our Quality Manager look into your situation. You are correct that we advise customers to provide their own lock on the trailer bulkhead wall or Relocube for added security, which would prevent anyone from accessing your items. If you have any questions or further details regarding your move, please don't hesitate to include them in your email. Thank you, Autumnn M.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Tennessee

Hire a real moving company!!

We decided to use ABF/U-Pack to save a few hundred dollars on our move. We used them and the moving company they recommended (to load their truck for us) thinking we were making a wise choice. It all seemed like a great idea, but it was a huge HUGE mistake!
First of all, ABF is a cargo company, NOT a moving company. They can call themselves “U-Pack” or whatever, but they showed up to our house with a filthy truck trailer that looked as if it had been recently used to haul dirty engine blocks to the scrap yard. I was shocked!
The next day the movers were scheduled to come. When they got there, it was two guys in a pickup truck. My first question to them was, “Have you worked with ABF before?” I was assured that they had and they got to work.. without having brought moving blankets, or even cord to secure our load. Again, I was shocked!
I have lived in Arkansas, Indiana, Pennsylvania (several times), North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Alabama. I have owned four houses, and have lived in three apartment complexes. This was the first time I haven't just moved our family myself. I am getting older and didn't have any help. I should have moved us one more time!
To make a long story short, everything we didn't have boxed up and extremely over-padded was damaged. One box was crushed almost to half of its former size. It was so bad that my PC had the heat sync knocked off of the CPU, even though it was shipped in its original box! My friend who builds PCs for a living (and had built this one himself) told me he had never even heard of a PC being internally damage during a move. Fortunately, it has a clear lighted case and I noticed the damage before I burned out my CPU.
Anyway, the first person I was put in contact with assured me everything would be taken car of. I was sent a claim from, and began emailing a Ms. Graham on the whole process I had to go through to get my heavily damaged belongings repaired. We emailed back and fourth several times and I started the process of getting the parts ordered for my couch to be repaired.
I was told I had to send in their claim form. I was told once the claim form was filled out someone would most likely be out and assess the damage to our belongings. I began to sense a stall.
So, I decided if I was going to be forced to follow a process just to get my couch repaired, I'd include everything that was damaged. I sent the form in and it was sent back to me with a notation that I had to have a price estimate. More stall? I put $875 (which was very low) just so the ever elusive U-Pack adjuster would finally show up and get a more accurate adjustment of the damage.
After MONTHS of trying to get them to come out and assess the damage to MOST of our furniture, I finally got an email telling me that their contract releases them from any damage responsibility because we packed the truck. When I explained that they did the packing I was told that it was still not their fault and that I should contact their recommended “movers.”
This is clearly NOT what they presented to my wife when she arranged for our belongings and valuables to be transported by ABF. This is also clearly not what I was lead to believe for months while I was going back and forth with ABF and their useless “claim form” process.
The moral to this story is.. If you want to hire movers, hire a real moving company that will insure your property.. and skip thinking you are going to save a few hundred dollars with ABF and U-Pack.
What you may just get is very damaged belongings, eventual denial of any fault by ABF (no matter the condition), an months of them pretending that they care and that they are going to make things right.. only to have “Oh, there is this little loophole in your contract.. and you get nothing.”
I have filed a complaint with the BBB.

Long-distance move from Utah to Ohio

Would recommend to anyone moving!!

I cannot rave enough about ABF. From beginning to end they were great to work with. I had to reschedule multiple times and they were so efficient in handling everything. I would recommend speaking with Erica Davis. She made me feel like we were long time friends. She explained everything in such great detail and made me feel so comfortable about the move. Once the truck was delievered to Utah I was unable to keep it there overnight so they made a special trip to come back and pick it up just a few hours later. Tom delievered the truck to Ohio and he was so friendly and helpful. He went out of his way and moved the truck a few times until we got it in the perfect spot. Then once I got my paperwork I noticed the footage was a little more than what it was supposed to be so I called and spoke to a gentlemen and he changed the footage and refunded my card right away no questions asked. Moving across the country is not a fun experience but using ABF they made it so much easier than I could have ever anticipated.  Thanks again!

Long-distance move from Mississippi to Arkansas

Best move ever.

I was dubious after reading some of the reviews of U-Haul, but this was the easiest smoothest move I have ever had. The trailer arrived clean and the drivers were well trained professionals having no problem placing the trailer exactly where I needed it. I found out I needed 2 more feet than predicted but loved being able to adjust than leave something behind.   HINT If I had had more straps and a ladder I believe that extra footage would have not been needed, because my friends packing did not fill all the way to the top (9 feet is high!).

Thank you for choosing U-Pack, C.D.! We appreciate the helpful review--you make a great point about utilizing maximum trailer space to save even more. Best wishes in your new home!

Long-distance move from Colorado to Florida

Rude customer service.

I decided to hire Upack for a long distance move.  When I called to set up the trailer delivery I needed it just a few days later.  The salesman assured me they would have the trailer dropped at my location on the day I needed between 8am and 10am.  I confirmed the date and times with him TWICE before ending our call.  Well, day of the move and no delivery as promised.  When I called to inquire where my trailer was the person on the phone said that the reservation I made was for the following week!  I assured him it was not as I needed to be at my destination at that day already and that there had been a mistake.  I even had the name of the person I made the reservation with and was actually speaking to him again.  Of course, he denied ever speaking to me.  The thing that angered me the most was the fact that he kept repeating that it was MY mistake.  No apology. No "let me see what happened". Nothing.  Complete rudeness. No accountability with this company. Any chance of me using or recommending this company to anyone is now gone.  Needless to say, it cost me a lot of money to change my plans last minute.  I am very upset with the way Upack handled this mix up.  Very unprofessional!!

Long-distance move from Georgia to Missouri

Damaged Property.

I didn't think I would ever have to go to theis level as to post a bad review about a company. I am beyond UPSET over the damage to my items.  From the beginning of the moving process I received very poor service. The beginning should have given me some sort of idea of the experience I was about to receive and I should have stopped the process then.  Without posting all of the gruesome details, I will start when my items arrived at the drop-off location. When I arrived on day one to view the truck to ensure my items were ok everything looked ok. I went back a second time to pickup certain items before the movers picked up the rest. When I arrived I had two ABF employees to remove the wooden dividers so we could start to unpack. When the dividers were removed all of my furniture started tumbling forward onto to us. The two employees asked that I remove myself from the truck so I didn't get hurt, which I did. I could not believe what I was seeing. I was so mad that I went into the office to inform them of what had just happened all I received was we are sorry but here is a claim form to submit for damages. WELL, who would have thought in the end you file a claim and are told you are only going to receive .10 cents on the dollar. What in the world could .10 cents pay for when you have hundreds of dollars in damage created by ABF Freight. I was asked why I didn't buy more insurnace, which was a slap in the face. I informed that employee that no one ever told me about extra coverage. It seems to me that this is how ABF works. Lets give them a contract and not tell them that they can buy extra coverage so we don't have to shell out loads of money.  I will tell everyone I possibly can about ABF as well as posting a review on as many sites I possibly can. This is some underhanded unprofessional tactics this company is using and something needs to be done about it.

Long-distance move from Louisiana to Texas

Small move Louisiana to Texas.

We used U-Pack to move my grandmother's items from Lafayette Louisiana to Texas. We kept having to push back the move date (by months) and U-Pack kept with the original quote. I paid for the 2 hour delivery window and that worked great. The driver had to get the truck down a pretty narrow driveway, over a culvert and between big trees. He did a great job.  We weren't quite ready for delivery in Texas and they held the shipment for several days no charge. They notified me of delivery time and it all went smoothly. We only needed the five feet of space. A lot can fit in there. We didn't want to drive a U-haul. This was by far the easiest and cheapest option I could find. We used Bellhops movers to load the truck in Lafayette and that worked great.

Smooth!

We moved from Arizona to Vancouver, BC in February 2015.  Not a lot of companies offered an international move like this, and U Pack was by far the best price (PODS wanted almost 3x the price!).  From start to finish, the process was very smooth, all questions answered, great customer service, and the customs process in Surrey, BC was a breeze.  We chose to load and unload the pod at their sites, and it couldn't have been easier - just pull your truck up (within 5-10 ft of the pod).  Such an easy move!  Would definitely use U Pack again.

Long-distance move from Washington to New Jersey

Total Unstisfactory.

I updated my new address n asked to drop off my cube.I was asked it will be done in 2-3 hours.
I checked my place it and it was not dropped off.
Later I called they told me to talk o terminal without checking herself.
I called Treminal and talked to Sam he said there is no appointment set up for me. I was really surprised. He said if any driver comes it can be delivered, it was 2:00 PM. I called every 1 hour and to check same.
Finally at 7:00 PM Sam told me to check with Upack if they can provide any driver. when I called Upack, Representative didn't help me rather just saying she can't help me and cube will be drop off on Monday.
I am staying in Hotel and it is completely frustrating for me. She didn't try to help me rather giving options that I can take stuff from terminal myself my whole Home staffs containing Bed, tables, Sofa, Boxes etc.
Very BAD experience with Upack for me.
If you are dealing with Upack, please re-confirm with next representative.. Better to check other company.

Liability and Storage.

We are satisfied with the price value.  They are the cheapest thing going by far especially for long distances.  I do have two words of advice. READ YOUR CONTRACT.  Especially the paragraph concerning liability.  The Standard Coverage only covers .10 per pound for any damage due to negligence.  This can be minimal especially with an item of any value. You can upgrade the coverage in case of damage or use outside coverage.  Also if you plan to have them store your items, rap anything that is not water resistant in plastic bags.  The containers are stored outside and if you happen to get one that is not air tight and it rains the container could leak.

Long-distance move from Florida to New Jersey

Not good at all.

I was moving from Fl to NJ for a new job.  I made it clear to them that I did not know where I was moving to when I got to NJ.  I paid to have my items stored in NJ.  When I found a place and gave them the address I was told it would cost $400 to move the trailer.  I was in shock since I had no clue about any other fees.  When I called I was told I was being given a break since it would cost them over $800 to move the trailer 45 miles.  I finally got them down to $200.  When I got the trailer around 3 pm once again the time frame you are given is from 8-8.  If you call you just get told soon.  When I unpacked the trailer found out it had leaked.  Had many boxes wet and now have many items ruined.  Like a coffe maker that was new, a kitchen aid mixer that I have had for 20 years.  A great toaster and a coffee grinder.  Plus had a hard time getting the boxes off the truck since they were wet.  Ruined many boxes as well.  Alond with cookbooks from my grandmother that cannot be replaced.  I will fill out the paper work and I am sure will get the run around like I have before.  They do not help you just take your money.  Would not use them again.  paid them a lot of money and they did not care about me at all.  Just want more money and if something goes wrong if your fault not the company.  .

Local move within Texas

My trailer had a leak, an inch of water when it arrived.

When my trailer was dropped off, everything was fine, the driver did a quick check (I.e already had his form checked off and didn't really check) and left it for me to pack. The bulkhead doors latch was broken, so I was unable to lock my items. Oh well I thought. When my goods arrived, it had been raining across the country, and there was a leak at the back of the trailer. All of my big heavy furniture items got water damage, there was about 2 inches of standing, moldy, rusty water covering my furniture. The standard insurance rate is $.10 per pound. That means a $1500 couch that weighs 200 pounds nets you back $20. A $8000 Rolex would net you maybe 20 cents? I didn't lose a Rolex, but I did lose a lot of furniture, as well as expensive small lightweight items. I was never offered an additional insurance option. I will be letting my large corporation, which moves employees regularly, not to use this company going forward.

Cross country move.

I found the use of relocubes to be the most economical choice for my cross country move. I was really happy with the customer service on all fronts. The only thing that I needed patience for was that the cubes were scheduled to be picked up on a Friday, and weren't picked up until Monday. When you are without your household items to begin with, adding three extra days to the wait wasn't great. Also, the cubes arrived at my new location by Friday, but again weren't delivered until Monday. Another wasted weekend worth of time. BUT, all in all it was a very positive experience, and I highly recommend them. Thank you!

Long-distance move from Arizona to Texas

Issue with rental supplies.

I located this site in an online search. I phoned to promptly set up a move date to purchase my airline ticket (the apartment I was moving out of was located in Arizona & I physically reside in Seattle, Wa.)  and the furnishings were being relocated to Texas. The process of planning the move went well except that I had to call another company to perform the loading (I needed help to load furniture & a family member on the receiving end needed help to unload.)
The relocation cube arrived on time. The loaders from Moving Staffers arrived on time & performed well. I did not rent nor purchase moving supplies from U Pack as there was no one in Arizona to receive them in the mail. The timing of the move worked seamlessly so that I was able to obtain moving supplies & rent blankets from U-Haul.
The cube arrived in Texas earlier than expected, however, I kept the arrival date set. The Moving Staffers performed well on the receiving end. It was a lot to orchestrate this move with so many different people involved on both ends. This made the move stressful enough.
Then, when the move was completed, an unloader on the receiving end informed a member of my family to place the blankets in the cube as it would be picked up later that day (however, as I stated, I rented the blankets from U-Haul.) On none of my paperwork did it indicate that I needed to return any supplies with the cube.
I had to contact that terminal in Texas to discuss the issue & I was informed I had to pick up these items to return them to U-Haul (they were kept in the office.)My family member had no vehicle to obtain them. Then, there was severe flooding in Houston, which further prevented the rental return. In the mean time, I am continuing to pay for more rental time.
I called again & spoke with a Mr Elfredo Thomas, who returned the blankets to U-Haul that late afternoon. Mr Thomas is the only reason I gave an average rating in my review! Why did it take more than a week to resolve a problem one of your staff created? Future rentals will be done at a one stop shop at U-Haul for a more pleasent experience.

Service cost: $2300

Official company response

Thank you for business and the feedback. I apologize for the miscommunication that led to your frustration and the rental supplies being returned to our terminal. If you would like me to investigate it further, please send your move information to customercare@upack.com. Best regards, Brittany G.

Long-distance move from California to Minnesota

Upack.

We were incredibly pleased with UPack from the time of sign-up until they picked up the trailer at our new home. Moving from Los Angeles to Minneapolis was a lot of work, but made much easier by using UPack.
Their customer service was fantastic, they provided more than enough moving information, and were always helpful and quick to answer our questions when we called.
The trailers were prompt and arrived on time for each scheduled drop off/pick up. The trailer was the most economical and affordable option we found by far of the options out there for the space. And being able to track our trailer en route was not only helpful, but just kind of fun!
We would highly recommend them to anyone, especially those looking to move across the country.
