Long-distance move from Michigan to Colorado

Moving With Confidence.

There is no such thing as a stress-free move.  If you want to come close, give ABF U-pack a call.  From my first contact with their agents in their Ft. Smith, AR home office, to the drivers and local terminal reps; everyone was eager to help in any way they could.  It's rare to receive this level of customer service at any company in this day and age, not to mention the price, which could not be beat.

Service cost: $1514

Long-distance move from Virginia to Michigan

Cross-country move.

There were two somewhat distinctive parts of our move--one, many books making for a heavy load; and two, a need for one month of storage.  Moving across the country, too, I was very pleased the the affordability of U-Pack, and we didn't sacrifice a thing in terms of quality.  We talked with customer service a fair number of times, and got quick, well-informed responses.  Talking with the managers at the terminals, too, always went well, with very courteous people.  So we got a great deal and were treated very well, while nothing was damaged.  It's hard to find honest moving companies sometimes, but if U-Pack is a good fit for your style of move, I'd strongly recommend them.
We did hire movers on both sides to help us load and unload.  Even with that, I think we saved 3,000-4,000 dollars in comparison with a full-service company (and of course, many of those aren't actually trustworthy).

Service cost: $2700

Long-distance move from New York to South Carolina

Worst moving experience ever.

I have moved several times during my adult life - this is the first time I used UPack.  I will never use them again.  I have never made a move that has been more botched.  I was promised the truck would arrive at my new location at the latest by Friday - it didn't arrive until the following Monday.  The extra nights in hotels (because our beds were on the truck), the extra restaurant meals (because all our pots and dishes were on the truck), I had to buy work clothes to go to work that Monday, I had to hire movers to empty the truck because I had to be back to work that Monday.  In all my loses were over $1000. Upack agreed to give me back a paltry $150.  Terrible company to work with.  They were very nice when scheduling my move, but when they failed to meet the schedule they had promised - they became very rude.  One customer service rep even hung up on me, and when I finally got a manager on the phone (5 days later) - she offered no solutions only a lousy $150 back.  She acted like I should be grateful since they don't normally give anything back, "but given the extenuating circumstances, she could make this exception.

Pathetic excuse for customer service.  They don't keep commitments.  Don't use this company.  .

Service cost: $3000

Long-distance move from Wisconsin to Georgia

My stuff was destroyed.

I moved cross country with Upack and it was a very bad experience.

Firstly, they called me to tell me that no relocubes were available in my area two days before my move. They upgraded me to a trailer, which seems good at first until the logistics of parking it for days at a time is considered.

They could not accommodate my move in date and so I was left without my things for a full week.

When the trailer did arrive, my things were broken and scuffed. I called to complain but couldn't get a representative on the phone after waiting for 40 minutes.

Avoid this service if you can. They are professional in their demeanor but unprofessional in the quality of their services.

Okay, but you need to have room for a truck for 3 FULL days or more.

If you have room (driveway, suburban street) to park a trailer for three full business days, then U-Pack is fine. The price is great, the delivery times are great. You have to do a bunch of coordinating footwork yourself, but it is a good value.  If, however, you do not have ready room to park a trailer for three full days (like in an urban environment), be very careful in choosing U-Pack. They *will not* guarantee same day pickup of your trailer. They do not work on Saturdays or Sundays. Fridays are the absolute busiest days, and same day pickup will be virtually impossible, and you will have to park the trailer for 5 days - F, S, S, M, T.  If you can manage to arrange for 3 full days of trailer parking (plus weekend if your dropoff is a Friday), see above - the service is fine and well-priced.  Bottom line: if you are going to use U-Pack, the "three business days" thing does not mean "up to three business days". It means that you will have a trailer to deal with for three full days, at least. If that works with your locations, great. Everything else about the process was good for us. But if it doesn't work for your location, you might consider a different mover.

Service cost: $3930

Official company response

Thanks for the feedback, Laura! In many cases, equipment can be picked up before the 3rd business day but you are right, you may need to have that entire time available depending on the location and the number of moves that are happening in your area. I'm glad that, in general, the move went well for you and I hope that the 3 business days didn't cause any problems. Thank you for using u-Pack - Audrey J.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Montana

Bad service.

I will  never  use this  service  again. I got an email  telling  me truc  would  arrive  between   8:00 - 1200 noon which  is  what  I  was told   on the  phone. When no truck or a call from company  I called  and was told  it would  be  45 minutes  there was no ramp in the  truck . After an hour  I called   again told another  hour the  driver had a ways  to  go. The truck finally  arrived  2:50pm.  I was driving  across  country  and  had preprepaid hotels which  I  could  not  keep  s lost my deposit . I had calculated truck  gettng  there at noon   with 2 hours to pack. Since it was so late coukd not leave  until  the  next day  I called  customer  service  to complain  and the woman  who  answered  could care less and you  could  hear it in her voice  by the tone and her words. She state that the the 4 hourtime  frame  is just an estimate  that the truck  can arrive anytime. I sent an email  to  the  person who sold me the  server  and the person  who sent  me  an email  about  how prompt  they are and to schedule  a drop off. Neither  person  responded to my email. The truck  driver  told me he had been  working  13 hours he had  his normal  routes  to  run first. I was no priority to anyone. When  the  truck  was dropped  off  there was dust so thick  on everything  and I'm  allergic  to dust.  Don't  use them  especially  if  going  across  country.

Service cost: $3500

Long-distance move from California to Arkansas

Absolutely thrilled.

I was THRILLED with this whole experience. The Old Dominion Freight drivers were personable, friendly, and helpful - and ON TIME! The dispatchers were likewise helpful and informative.  And the truck with my things arrived well ahead of schedule. I couldn't be more satisfied.  THANK YOU, U-Pack! (Note: I suspect that U-Pack uses different freight line subcontractors. My experience with U-Pack and Old Dominion was wonderful. I wonder if the not-so-great experiences reported were with different subcontractors??).

Long-distance move from Tennessee to Colorado

Worst Moving Experience.

I'm not one to typically post reviews on companies was SO terrible that I couldn't not say something. I moved from Tennessee to Colorado and in turn had to pay for 4 extra days in a hotel because it didn't take "4-5 business days" to arrive. It took 9! They give you a tracking number and I followed it everyday. On the fifth business day it was in my new city but when I called to set up a time they said they wouldn't deliver it for four more days! I'm sorry but that just isn't acceptable. I don't have extra money to just stay in hotels waiting for them to drive 10 minutes to deliver a trailer. I would NOT recommend anyone to use this company! It ended up being the same price as our POD quote for terrible service!

Outstanding.

Can't say enough good things.  Our second big move with uPack and it's all gone so smoothly.  And at such an affordable price.  This is definitely the best way to move. We hired folks to load/unload at either end.  It worked out great and both times nothing major was broken, hardly anything even minor.  Very pleased, thank you guys.  You have an excellent thing going.  .

Long-distance move from Florida to New Mexico

Never again.

This was not my first move with UPack, but it was the worst. The moving packers are subcontracted out and you take your chances. Unfortunately the subcontractor, Night and Day Movers out of Jacksonville, FL were especially inexperienced and even misrepresented and outright lied about their time and managed to use 6 linear feet more than the exact same move I made 2-1/2 years earlier using UPack. Several items of furniture were broken, or stained. See pictures of some damage. I provided blankets, plastic covers (which they failed to use on couch) and tie-down ropes, which they also didn't use. I am still unpacking and I don't know if any items were stolen in the "Condition at delivery" area below. I have no problems with ABF, the transport van company, but if you use them, hire moving labor locally instead of using this service. The cost below is for UPack only, and does not include the van.
