Long-distance move from Illinois to Washington DC

Illinois to DC.

So, like many others here, I usually do not write reviews. The reason why I decided to share my story is because I had never experienced a big move. I moved from Illinois to DC and on top of housing stress, new job, etc, I also had to deal with getting my things here. When the time came to bring my things over, my first move was to look at moving companies. My new job paid up to a certain amount and I was sure that I would find a reasonable price. I only had 18 medium boxes, a twin sized mattress, a desk, and a small office chair. I got quotes from moving companies and was unpleasantly surprised. I got quotes ranging from $3400 to $1200. I was wary of the lowest price because that was only an estimate. The actual price was not to be determined until the final weigh in. I was hesitant about this, so I looked into u-pack. The reason why I had wanted a moving company was because I did not want my parents to go through the trouble of loading my boxes into the truck. However, I got a quote from u-pack and I knew I would only be paying for the space I used. I spoke with my parents and we both decided that it would be the best option. I called u-pack and arranged for them to drop off a trailer. When they delivered the trailer, they were courteous and informative in explaining the process to my dad. I got my things delivered to a terminal and the process was a very smooth one. What was most important to me was timeliness and that it was a low-stress process. I was dealing with the housing situation and moving, so working with u-pack did not give me many worries. I would definitely recommend them and I know I will use them for my next move. .

Long-distance move from Georgia to Texas

Easy, Easy, Easy.

This was my first long distance move and everything was stressing me out, including moving companies. I found out about U-Pack in a Google search and the process was so easy! They made this part of my move absolutely stress free. I was moving by myself and didn't want to worry about driving an annoying U-HAUL and towing my car 800 miles. I got to the terminal in GA on a Thursday, they brought my relocube around, we took as much time as we needed to pack it up then told them I was done. I got to Texas, they called me on that Tuesday when it was ready, and I went and unloaded the box and that was it! My belongings were a little dusty when I picked them up, not sure how they got that way, but I'm very thankful they made this part of my move as easy as they did. I would definitely recommend them to anyone doing a long distance move!

Toni,

Long-distance move from North Carolina to Arizona

I expected more from Upack..

Truck was quoted to come anywhere from 2-6pm. Hired movers to help at 5pm. Truck was a no show at 6pm. Told it was leaving the terminal now, expect in 30 min. No truck at 7pm. Told there was a wreck on the interstate, truck should be leaving now, expect in 30-45min. Thought you said it was leaving the terminal an hour ago? 8,9,10pm come and go. I send the movers home and lose out on a couple hundred bucks. I speak with probably 15 different people on the phone, most tell me its not there department or the people I need to speak with go home at 5pm. Hung up on twice and lectured by one person about knowing better than to hire movers the day of instead of the next day, its in the contract so its on me. What? no it isn't, is this how you talk to customers? 11pm truck arrives, just 9-5 hours late. Speaking with the driver he tells me he was not backed up from traffic he had to go pick up my trailer from the other side of town at another residence, take it back to the terminal and get a ramp then come to my house. So my truck was not at the terminal nor was it leaving at any point. It had to be picked up from someone else's house on the last run of the day. He said they do this all the time to people. Mind is blown with all the info received.

Spoke with supervisor in the morning, she said she was sorry I was unhappy but they technical fulfilled the contract by getting the truck to my house before midnight. Thats like me going to a restaurant and ordering a burger and they bring out a chard hockey puck and tell me, "well its technically a burger and that's what you ordered." No remorse no solution no offer to rectify the situation. All I get is her saying "what do you want me to do." I asked for money off my $4000 bill..$300. Nope, they usually just do $50 off, oh boy, that's not good enough. I tell her that they will lose thousands by never getting me as a customer again and anyone I tell and any review I post on the internet about not using their service. She doesn't care, said she'll do $100 off and no more, Im done with the conversation and this company, I have a truck to pack.

Service cost: $4100

Damage to the Garage!

I used this company to move from North Carolina to Michigan. The items in the cube were undamaged but the driver who dropped the cube off ran into the garage and drove over the lawn. Damage was done to both the garage and lawn. The driver was really nice and filed a claim for me. I was assured by the company that I would be compensated for the damage. After being given a low claim offer that was finally "agreed" upon, I still have not been paid, p6 months later.

Service cost: $661

Emily,
I am so sorry about the damage to your new residence. If you'd email your reference number or claim number to customercare@upack.com, we can follow up with the Claims Department about the payment you expected to receive already.
Thank you,

Very Good Experience.

It was my second time using U-pack and it was a great experience. The cube was delivered on time in California, the driver was very nice and friendly. My cube got to its destination very rapidly given that I was moving from the South West to the North East. It got there in 7 business days, which was the lower end of the estimate I was given. They were very flexible concerning the delivery time, and I got them to deliver it the following day since this worked better for me. I would use u-pack again for my next long distance move.

Service cost: $2300

Official company response

Thank you for the great review, Francis!
I'm glad that your move went well, the timing worked out and we met your expectations. I hope you are getting settled in your new place.
Best Wishes!

International move from , CO to , ON

U-Pack.

I had used ABF's full container shipping for a move from Georgia to Colorado and they did an excellent job, even storing our items while we were waiting to get into a rental house. So when it came time to move from Colorado to Canada, I decided to use their U-Pack service based on their price and timeliness of getting my items. Service was just as described, they were very helpful with the paperwork required to bring items into Canada and delivery was just as promised.

Highly recommend when using a U-Pack to pack tightly and tie items down to avoid damage as there is some shifting during the shipping.

Very good company to work with.

Long-distance move from California to Tennessee

Surprisingly Excellent Experience.

From the driver who dropped the trailer exactly where we wanted it, to the driver who picked it up and cheerfully accommodated us by backing the trailer up to directly in front of our apartment so we load our mattresses in the rain, to the quick delivery and professional demeanor of everyone we worked with at U-Pack and Old Dominion, our move could not have gone any better. There were a couple of items broken due to our less-than perfect packing, but the load was in surprisingly good shape overall.

The price was the best of any option ($2700 for 10 feet of trailer space) and the safest as well, since we didn't have to tow our vehicle 2300 miles.

If we ever move long distance again, I will definitely use U-Pack. Have already recommended to friends. There's no other long-distance move option that even comes close to being as safe and affordable. The professionalism of this company and its reps is just a great bonus.

Service cost: $2712

Long-distance move from Minnesota to Florida

UPack moving.

Absolutely outstanding from start to finish. This will sound like an inside review, it is not. In an age of poor and offshore customer service, from the initial contact to the trailer pickup UPack was flawless. The estimates and discussions were dead on. Great suggestions, dates and times were adhered to, the phone system was simple and efficient, the agents in MN and FL were knowledgeable and friendly, I could go on and on. But the move:
I was unsure of the space I needed by a factor of 2. I considered a Penske/Budget 16, 24 and 28 foot truck. We were going from MN to FL, 1700 miles and had a truck/boat to get to FL also. After considering the options, 2 or 3 days of driving a 24 foot truck and my wife driving our truck/boat and likely having too much or too little space, the UPack option of use what we need and not drive separately was and easy choice.

There were several date complications that the MN agent was very accommodating with and we got the truck Fri PM. It was both pristine and a technological marvel. Moving beams every 18 inches or so allowed for securing the contents very well. We were loaded by Tues and they picked up the trailer exactly as requested. Online tracked showed the truck in Orlando by Sat. We arranged for a Monday delivery on Fri and the truck was there on schedule. The Orlando office (reachable with one phone option and a real person answered (Alan who was also great)! had our info in seconds, a time seconds later and did exactly what they said they would do. The same for trailer pickup. After 8 or 10 military moves, had this been around then I would have hired UPack for all of those moves.

One last thing, regarding self pack. More padding is better, it is difficult to pack higher up, secured items with rope or twine to prevent movement. As they say, the tighter the better. We had a few self induced abraded pieces due to insufficient restriction on movement which could have been rectified with some rope! Oh, the cost: about 5000 pounds moved 1700 miles we used about 21 feet and it was about 3000$.

Service cost: $3000

Greg,

Thank you so much for the review. We're thrilled you were pleased with your U-Pack experience. Also, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your service to our country.

Long-distance move from Texas to Florida

Perfect Solution for Cross Country Move.

U-Pack from ABF delivers a top-notch, worry-free service.
From my first phone call asking some basic questions, I felt like we were in good hands. Calls were answered quickly by knowledgeable and friendly staff. I never felt like I was put on hold or having to wade through lots of phone prompts. Following each call, I'd receive an auto-generated email confirming my order. This was very re-assuring as there were some last minute changes to our move date and I was able to easily adjust the date / time of our initial trailer drop-off without any penalties.
The trailer was dropped-off as scheduled. The friendly driver worked with us for optimal placement to make it as easy as possible to load the trailer.
In the following days, we loaded up our trailer with assistance from a local moving company. The U-Pack trailer was then picked up on time by another friendly and professional driver.
When we arrived at our destination and had possession of our new home, we called as instructed. I was given the latest info on our trailer's location and expected ETA in our new city. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived to the local depot ahead of schedule and that dispatch contacted me to schedule delivery.
As part of scheduling delivery, I notified dispatch that the house was some distance from the street and was hoping that the trailer could be parked in the driveway near the street. She didn't think it would be a problem, but also said it would be to the driver's discretion.
On delivery day, the driver called to let me know when he expected to arrive. He was there on time. After arriving, he carefully surveyed our driveway before flawlessly backing the trailer down a pinetree-lined curving driveway to be close to our new house. Having the trailer so close to the house significantly cut down the time it would have taken to unload the semi if it had been near the street.
Once unloaded with assistance from local movers, I arranged for pick-up. The trailer was promptly picked up while I was running errands.
In addition to having friendly and helpful staff throughout the entire process, U-Pack's website and printed paperwork is easy to use and understand. There were no hidden surprises or fees. It was also comforting to track our trailer online.
While we initially thought the transit time seemed to be a long time not to have our belongings, it went by really quickly. While our belongings were being transported, we were traveling too in the comfort of one of our cars. Once in our new city, we were then busy with the house closing and other matters. It was a relief not having to be trying to unpack a rental van with all the other chores that needed attending.
Summary: ABF U-Pack is a first class operation from beginning to end. Highly recommend.

Long-distance move from Illinois to North Carolina

East Bound & Down, Loaded up & Truck'n.

If anyone is relocating, I recommend giving U-PACK a call. The whole U-PACK Team impressed me with the level of service I received from beginning to end. My move went off without a hitch. The convenience of racking and stacking my own (well, borrowed) trailer and given 3 days on each end was perfect. I reserved 17 feet and wasn't sure what I was going to take, but when it was all said and done, I was able to only use 7 feet and saved myself about a grand. When and if I ever move again (not anytime soon, LOL), I will definitely use U-PACK and WILL recommend these services to anyone I know that may be moving. Also, by using U-PACK to do all the driving, I was able to take my time cruising accross the states with TWO(yes TWO) Great Danes at a leisurely pace. Geo A. Wake Forest, NC.
