Moving from Calgary to BC Lower Mainland.

That Guy office staff were pleasant and courteous to deal with and we received a quote quickly for our planned move from Calgary to the BC lower mainland after emailing our list of items to be shipped. The loading happened on Wednesday, a day earlier than scheduled, but went well. Bill, the driver, was great.

He showed up first, was very organized and loaded items from our garage, then 2 helpers, Jackie and Kane, arrived and the house contents and furniture were loaded. It took 5 1/2 hours to load our house contents into the moving van, with no damage to the house.

Our shipment was delivered as requested on Saturday at noon, with Darren, the driver and his assistant Cory. Both were very polite and courteous and took just under 3 hours working steadily to unload our shipment from the truck into the requested rooms and assemble the bed.

That Guy's price quote for the shipment was very fair and there was only a small adjustment to their original quote when we updated our list to include 20 more boxes than originally specified.

We were very happy with the services provided and this was our third time using That Guy Van Lines in the last year. Thanks to the staff at That Guy Van…

      Poor after service.

I want to say the front end process of receiving a quote went very well. The guys that loaded and unloaded our belongings were very professional and respectful. That's where the good service ends. I have used movers 8 times over the years to move across Canada and the US. Damage happens but how the moving company deals with the damage has always been consistent, until now. We had a small damage to our King bed footboard which the movers noted as being caused by a peddle on our bikes rubbing against it. We also had a more serious concern with the fact that the guys wrapped our furniture in blankets which gasoline was spilled on. I was told that they knew about this and still used the blankets. For the last 5 days day wife and I have been dealing with the discomfort of the gas fumes. A restoration company told me they need to clean and use ozone to rid the smell. Since reporting my issues I have yet to receive any form of reply. When I talked to their office I was told that the claims department does not talk on the phone to anyone and the e-mails I have sent have not been replied to. I paid $49.95 for extra insurance and I am not sure what that is used for as again no one replies.…

Frustrating experience with hidden costs and lost items.

That Guy may come in a bit cheaper than their competitors, but beware. Even though we were very specific about the amount of stuff we were moving, they underestimated the space and had to make two trips from Canmore to Penticton. We had to take two days off work instead of one to allow them to make the pickups. Even though they will quote you a rate for a full van-load, you don't actually get the whole van. They already had someone else's things on board, so we got what space was left. On top of that, they lost a number of items, including a 24 ft extension ladder. How do you "lose" something so large? If you wish to make a claim, you have to pre-pay a $150 deductible before they will review your claim. They do not make a roster of items, so you really have no idea if all of your boxes make it until you unpack everything and realize stuff is missing. They are also quite disorganized and you have to keep calling them to find out basic things like when your load will be delivered. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is that the guys actually doing the loading and unloading were very pleasant and hard-working. However, I won't be hiring this company again.

      Worst most expensive move EVER.

Moved within town, got a quote of $1440, the actual move cost $2100!! The crew was careless cramming things into the truck as they were under instructions to try and fit 2600 sq ft house in one 5tonne truck even tho I reserved and rented two 5 tonnes with 4 men.. 8 weeks prior. Every Rubber maid I bought for the move had cracked lids, my new wood dining set had severe damage to both the wood and padded seat area.. The movers had tore through bags of clothes trying to make everything fit in the truck.. I ended up having to pick my underwear up from the back of their truck and my driveway :-( I have tried several times to call the owners of the company but have not received a return call yet. I've left messages stating damage and was told by an employee that there was special insurance for it..I have yet to be contacted..I wouldn't want anyone else having to go through this as moving is stressful enough at the best of times..

      Great Experience.

I was very happy with the move. The two fellows who arrived were professional and pleasant. And, they were very helpful with some last minute decisions I had to make. I wasn't able to be at my new place when the items were delivered but I made arrangements for someone to let the movers in. And, when I arrived, everything was there and some of the furniture which belonged in specific rooms (i.e. dresser in bedroom) were in the applicable room. On top of all that, the pricing is very reasonable compared to the competition. This was also long distant move and That Guy Van Lines gave me the shortest delivery window of any of the competitors. Because it was winter and we were in a cold snap I didn't really want my stuff left too long in a cold truck. As it turned out, they delivered all my stuff the next day, hence, why I wasn't able to be there because I was driving up the day after. I highly recommend these folks. And, I would definitely use them again.

      Warning Worst Possible Choice.

Where to begin.. I have a house full of 178th century antiques & fine furnishings & was very worried about my move & the safety of my belongings. Almost every piece was damaged. I did but insurance but it's been 6 months & nothing. Not one word of communication after multiple monthly phone calls to them, multiple requests for my invoice to be emailed, multiple requests to have a manager return my calls. Zero help.

In fact I have been told they don't even know who the insurer is that covers them. That all they have is an email which they won't give out. That I should just wait..its been 6 months with zero resolution. Every piece in my $7k bedroom suite had wood chips & damage. My 6k couch was ripped at the back. The wall of my new home was damaged. My large gargoyle 17th century wall sconce was broken in half (after surviving centuries!) Thier workers took the top off of my antique dining table which has a complex leaf system & never put it back on so wE can not done at it to this day until I can find someone to fix it. NIGHTMARE. But worse is zero culpability or communication from the moving company.

6 months of calling every week trying to find out how to rectify this…

      Worst ever company to hire.

Moved from Edmonton to Nanaimo. Got insurance as we value our possessions and wanted to protect them. Short staffed on both sides and obviously not “professional” movers were used to unload our furniture. There were two guys crossing the street bringing on one or two items at a time, no dollies no floor mats, causing gouging on brand new hardwood flooring. Many items broken and damaged and a lot of missing furniture and electronics. We made a claim as that is what insurance is supposed to be for and got denied, we had to call so many times we lost count, no one would get back to us, ever !! And now we have been forced to seek legal council. This is just a bad business period! Do your home work when hiring and save yourself from this horrible business seriously!!

      Worest Movers Ever.

I found these clowns on the a Google search offering $299.00 moves, they showed up one day late, could not put everything into the truck, ran out of blankets. I had to hire another company to move other items left and my price was five times what was quoted. My hutch glass was broke, all I got was oh well it's glass, my leather couch was ripped while taking it out. All they told me was I was lucky it fit, BUYER BEWARE! Do not trust these guys.

I Would Not Recommend This Company For Any Local Move.

I contacted That Guy Van Lines for a local move as I had previously used them to move from Alberta to BC. The provincial move was seamless, took 2 guys maximum 3 hours to load all my stuff and nothing was damaged. The cost for the provincial move was $2600

For the local move (I was moving 10 minutes from the origin), they quoted between $120 to $140/hr. Two guys showed up an hour late with a small truck even though when quoted I advised there were a lot of items to move. .Although the guys were very careful and pleasant, it took them 2 loads to move everything and a total of 8 1/2 hours (even with us doing 6 of our own pick up truck loads ourselves and us helping unload the moving truck at the destination) ..at $140 an hour. I was charged for the time the truck broke down first time where we had to call to get it jacked and a second time in the driveway when the steering failed and they had to call a tow truck to remove it.

When I mentioned the hours, travel, and break down times, the guys asked if I wanted to talk to the manager as she was there because the truck was getting towed. They went to get her. she walked towards me and said "what's your problem?" and I explained. She…

Horrible movers, don't be surprised when your items are damaged.

Hired this company to move from Kelowna to Calgary. They did not wrap furniture properly at pick up and delivered several items damaged in Calgary. They refuse to pay for repairs stating "I should have bought the extra insurance they offered". Who would have thought one needed insurance for damage CAUSED by the employees of the company!! They have stopped responding to my messages, looks like I'm going to pursue legal action. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS!!

Poor Customer Service.

I moved from Langley, BC, To Calgary. I found the movers on both ends to be professional and friendly. But!! I paid for insurance and unfortunately they dropped and smashed my tv. It's been over two months and they won't return my calls/emails in regards to a refund for my tv. This company lacks customer service and apparently doesn't understand what "insurance" means. I'd give them zero stars if I could.

Extra charges for using credit card

Unfortunately, this moving company was the "last choice" as couldn't find another for time needed - 1 day. Small load of personal furniture that fit in a 5x10 ft. storage shed. Move was from Salmon Arm BC to Kamloops BC. Agreed price $2,790.00. Once in Kamloops and before off loading, driver asked payment method, which was confirmed in initial agreement. When bill was presented for payment the total was $3,052.53. Agreed upon price was noted of the formal billing sheet, plus an additional GST charge of $139.50 with grand total listed as $2,929. 50. That leaves difference of $123.03!! Driver said added charge was because credit card was used. When questioned about excessive credit card admin charge, driver said "that's just the way it was" (not exact wording but meaning clear). There was no mentioned when initial agreement was given by company of this type of excessive charge, and no mention or anything noted on the legal agreement on the back of bill. This excessive charge is ridiculous and not within the norm. Be very aware of this excessive charge. Also note, that although there was an agreed upon price, this charge was way beyond any other major moving company!! I would not recommend them for any future moving needs. Other reviews have indicated the same.

Move from Surrey BC to Lethbridge Alberta

Was referred to That Guy Van Lines from a friend. We were going to hire a Uhaul and found out that they are famous for cancelling their "reservations" 24 hours prior to pick up. We were scrambling to find an alternative when my friend suggested That Guy Van Lines. They managed to squeeze us into their schedule. They were prompt with their messages to set up the move and were on time for pick up and on time for delivery to Lethbridge. We will be using them again in the future. Thanks for saving us on such short notice!

Do Not Use This Company.

I used this company 2 weeks ago and they were awful. That guy vanlines located in Winfield BC.
My complaint is as follows..

I hired these guys cause I have back issues. I didn't want to aggrivate my back more by hauling boxes. Paid 3 thousand for guys to load..move my stuff and unload . The loading and transporting went fine.. Problem started with the arrival time and unloading. They were 4 hours late for the unloading. I had a couple things damaged..a wall and a shelf. The kicker was the unloading. One of the movers was so weak he couldn't lift the heavy stuff..dressers..couch..shelfs..even a mattress. If it wasn't for my grown son there is no way.. I mean no way all my stuff would if been unloaded. This little thin as a board guy was grunting and groaning carrying boxes even. Since it was a late start 7:30 pm I even had to help move stuff. Im not just talking a box here and there..im talking I was part of the crew..should if been paid. I can honestly say that my son and I did half the work..no friggn exaggerating. I was pissed. I paid good money NOT to move my stuff and ended up doing it. If not for my son being there I don't know what would of happened. I called the moving company to express my complaints . She said I should of made a call to them that night..uhmmm right after hours at 8pm. I told her no your movers should made the call..not me. I am paying you 3 grand.
Anyhoo im not asking for a full refund.. I just want to be compensated for the 2 hours of work my son and I did. They did not do their end of the contract.
Paleeeaase do not get screwed over by this so called company. They are rude ..unprofessional..will not return calls.. DO NOT USE ..THAT GUY VANLINES!!
