You get what you pay for ,cheap not always the way.

The move off the Island went well but long as only 2 of them loading 2 trucks we ordered a Semi to be safe & they sent 2 trucks.
We also had to go into storage for a few weeks watch for t hidden costs apparently we needed 3 units never discussed with us just saw the enormous costs u pay monthly regardless of only 2 weeks .
The delivery and Subsequent follow up is reason for bad rating.
They were s/b be here w our stuff around 11:30 latest never showed till 5 ,no calls anything then they are unloading 2 trucks in the dark ,their explanation for being late was they got pulled from our job to do another -
They never put boxes where they should lots were outside back of yard when all boxes clearly marked ,when we notated them to say missing lots the Mgr there could only say all storage units were empty next step was to make claim really as other reviews has stated we had an idea but because they don’t tag anything who knows,we were missing our dolly which we made sure had our name all over it.
The claim form is a joke u need to send a cheque for $150 w the form along w pictures etc could then take 6-8 weeks
When I wanted to speak w Owners of Company I was told there are several & won’t give names then wanted who she reported too again she said no one above her.
I got a really uneasy feeling from here but told her to look into the missing boxes & dolly she agreed& would call back.
No call from her just to check in w us then called her over 1 week later she stated never called as no news on our missing items.
I was coming to Kelowna & wanted a meeting w her the day of the planned meeting low & behold the Dolly has showed up!
Our missing boxes were located in the back yard behind a shed wet from rain.
Bottom line is be careful here, Customer Service poor poor they don’t mark anything maybe take pictures of all your stuff, try not to use storage-.

Belated compliment for a gcreat move.

We moved from Kelowna to Langley this summer with you "Guys". You stored our furniture for 3 months then moved us.
Nothng lost, nothing broken! Great job.
Our compliments to your staff on both ends of the move. Friendly and hard working-especially Arnold on this end. His helper was late but he was prepared to do it all himself if he had to.

Thanks Guys.

B.C. to Alberta Move.

This is the second time using That Guy Van Lines and I am very happy with their work. They took great care with my belongings and wrapped absolutely everything that wasn’t in a box.
They were on time with pick up and on the early end of the time frame they gave me for delivery.
The movers were professional and courteous and I had no issues with communication with head office.

My House Damaged by Oversize Moving Van!

Newer neighbour next door works for this co. in Kelowna. On Wed. aft. he was parked in front of his house - however size of van is apparently restricted from residential streets as there are low hanging power and telephone/cable lines. Driver snagged same when leaving (did a hit and run) as kept going and managed to rip lines from my home that have damaged the soffit. Rude receptionist, who blamed me for low lines and she was also rude to the RCMP constable. Not impressed at all. Waiting for resolution as is being handled via police and ICBC. And no contact, or apology from driver/neighbour either.

Long-distance move from Edmonton, AB to Kelowna, BC

Missing items.

I moved my house to Kelowna with That guy van lines. my $600 chainsaw never showed up. I called asking if maybe it was there somewhere. The manager they had me speak to was very aggressive and rude and kept telling me it must be on the other end. The receptionist told me the guys remember putting it in my garage which it is not in. The employees need to keep one story if they are going to deny any responsibility. They do not take an inventory when moving you so there is no proof of what is there. The manager told me to call the RCMP. Then told me I could get back 60 cents for it if I pay to file a claim. Do not use them. They are cheaper for a reason.

Long-distance move from Vancouver, BC to Edmonton, AB

Highly recommend.

I had a great experience with this company. I sent an online quote request to the various moving companies that would offer it and they got back to me first with a good rate. It turned out to be the best rate. The company was very accessible via email and phone throughout the entire process, and they answered all my annoying questions politely and helpfully. They arrived on the day promised in Vancouver and delivered my stuff to Edmonton within the window provided. Everything was in good shape upone arrival (we packed our own stuff so I can’t comment on their packing abilities), but they moved everything with care. The movers on both sides were nice guys. I don’t think the price can be beat.

The worst moving company ever.

This is the worst moving company ever. It started out at the pick up when driver threatened to leave much couch because he could not figure out how to get it in the elevator. At the delivery, the mirror and the dresser legs were broken, the piece of the couch was teared off. The company refuses to talk about claim reimbursement. Spend your money elsewhere.

Doug from Abby.

I would like to thank everyone involved with the move that took place last week, The move went great right from the initial contact with the end result in Red Deer. I was in the moving industry many years ago and it felt like I had never left as the Office and drivers were very prompt and efficient. It was a very stress free event. I will be recommending this Company to all my friends and relatives. Thank you again for a job well done.

Lawn Crushes - This Company Doesn't Care About Personal Property!

New neighbours at the very end of the street hired this moving company. Instead of just backing out onto the main road when they were leaving (small town, quiet road) they decided to come around the cul de sac - duh! Almost hit two cars, the fire hydrant and decided to run over our staked off, new lawn that we had just planted a couple months prior. We asked the company for $50 for seeds and soil to fill up the huge indent in our lawn from the truck driving over it. They said they couldn’t see the damage (sent pics) so they won't send any money, so I thought I’d share a video our neighbour was kind enough to share with me. I would NEVER hire THAT GUY VAN LINES to move anything. Obviously they don’t care about someone’s property. If you want to see the video, just go to youtube and check out THAT GUY VAN LINES - NEW LAWN CRUSHER.

That guy van lines..worst moving company.

Absolutely terrible experience, do not use these guys. They are terribly unorganized and do not care about the customer at all. I was quoted $2400-$2800 and I was charged at the very top amount without reason, even after they were large picking up, only 1 guy showed so I had to move everything myself. Then they were a day late dropping off with no discount and no reason.

I Would Not Recommend This Company For Any Local Move.

I contacted That Guy Van Lines for a local move as I had previously used them to move from Alberta to BC. The provincial move was seamless, took 2 guys maximum 3 hours to load all my stuff and nothing was damaged. The cost for the provincial move was $2600

For the local move (I was moving 10 minutes from the origin), they quoted between $120 to $140/hr. Two guys showed up an hour late with a small truck even though when quoted I advised there were a lot of items to move. .Although the guys were very careful and pleasant, it took them 2 loads to move everything and a total of 8 1/2 hours (even with us doing 6 of our own pick up truck loads ourselves and us helping unload the moving truck at the destination) ..at $140 an hour. I was charged for the time the truck broke down first time where we had to call to get it jacked and a second time in the driveway when the steering failed and they had to call a tow truck to remove it.
When I mentioned the hours, travel, and break down times, the guys asked if I wanted to talk to the manager as she was there because the truck was getting towed. They went to get her. she walked towards me and said "what's your problem?" and I explained. She attempted to argue with me and said that it wouldn't take more time to do 2 loads as it would to do one.. she took off 1/2 hour cost for travel and said that she would take a look at the provincial move time and would get back to me to resolve the lengthy time this move took. I have left 2 messages for her since and have not heard back. They have charged the credit card full price and apparently do not care once payment has been processed. The cost of the local move (a 5 minute drive) was over half of the cost for the provincial move.
I would not recommend this company for any local moves.

Move review.

I’ve had 2 long distance moves in the last 8 months and have used That Guy Van Lines for both.
Each move was a very good experience. Furniture, mirrors, pictures were all carefully wrapped. On time and on budget. Great communication with office staff. (They always answered the phone which was very appreciated. No annoying voice mail when you needed a question answered immediately)
The drivers were professional, friendly and polite.
I would definitely recommend That Guy Van Lines).

Long-distance move from Calgary, AB to Vancouver, BC

Will not Recommend.

The customer service was all good to begin with and we were told that we could schedule the move 2 days before the truck leaves. So called 2 days before, they said it wont happen now until 4 days later. So we didn't say much, was ok. They took all the stuff, and committed to reach with 2 days to Vancouver. That never happened, they said the roads were bad. Understood. But then we were at the apartment waiting for 4 days and took time off work but they could never make it. They wanted to make it on their time which was odd hours and we explained many times that the elevator will not be available. They still could never make it. Husband took time off work, stayed at the apartment, got an email saying truck has mechanical troubles, cannot make it again. 4 days later, somehow husband took a couple more hours off in the morning, said time was short so they just put all stuff and left in a hurry. Overall, even though the full amount was paid, the experience was extremely stressful ! And on telling them that, they said they cannot do anything about it. The ladies on the phone are not aware of half of the stuff happening, there is a huge disconnect we feel. Will not recommend them.

Kamloops to Abbotsford Move.

This company is GREAT! I phoned and emailed them lots. The ladies in the office were always friendly and answered all my questions. Email responses were always prompt. I couldn’t believe their quote, which was way lower than any of the other companies I called. AND That Guy Van Lines does not charge by weight! They gave me one price over the phone and stuck to it.
I was a little worried about my move being in the winter - January. But BILL, the driver, showed up on Monday morning as scheduled. His two swampers, Chris and Gord, also were there. All 3 guys were experienced and organized my stuff for loading the truck efficiently. They also wrapped my furniture in blankets- wow! After loading Monday, Bill drove from Kamloops to Abbotsford to overnight. That was so helpful as I was constantly worried about the possibility of bad winter weather.
Bill showed up on time Tuesday, and he had two local guys, Jeremiah and Dakota, to help him. They weren’t as experienced as Chris and Gord, but they worked hard. With guidance from Bill, they did a good job for us.
Thank you That Guy Van Lines!

Long-distance move from Calgary, AB to Surrey, BC

Moving from Calgary to BC Lower Mainland.

That Guy office staff were pleasant and courteous to deal with and we received a quote quickly for our planned move from Calgary to the BC lower mainland after emailing our list of items to be shipped. The loading happened on Wednesday, a day earlier than scheduled, but went well. Bill, the driver, was great.
He showed up first, was very organized and loaded items from our garage, then 2 helpers, Jackie and Kane, arrived and the house contents and furniture were loaded. It took 5 1/2 hours to load our house contents into the moving van, with no damage to the house.

Our shipment was delivered as requested on Saturday at noon, with Darren, the driver and his assistant Cory. Both were very polite and courteous and took just under 3 hours working steadily to unload our shipment from the truck into the requested rooms and assemble the bed.

That Guy's price quote for the shipment was very fair and there was only a small adjustment to their original quote when we updated our list to include 20 more boxes than originally specified.

We were very happy with the services provided and this was our third time using That Guy Van Lines in the last year. Thanks to the staff at That Guy Van Lines for making this move so successful and stress-free.

Vancouver to Vernon move.

Called this company (based in Kelowna) to quote a move of 4 furniture items. Their quote was very reasonable, 1/3rd of other companies I tried. Their correspondence was timely, and the movers called the night before, showed up on time and moved our furniture safely to Vernon. We bought the insurance as it was fine furniture we were moving. Did not need to make a claim thankfully. The movers were very polite and our experience was impressive.
I would use them again and give them a good recommendation.

Art Studio move Alberta to Vancouver Island.

Communications with the office can be unclear at times due to the rotation of staff and the fact that emails are unsigned.
They arrived a day late due to said mechanical problems. They pick up driver Chris was excellent and the load which took 6 hours went well.
Truck arrived on time and the unload went equally well if not better with 3 handlers. Driver was great at managing the help and placing things where they needed to go.

Moved from Calgary to North Vancouver.

My father and I moved to North Vancouver using this company and we were extremely satisfied with them. The booking was very easy and the movers came a day early and we received our things a day early as well which was perfect( they called us to confirm if it was ok to come early). It took them only one day to deliver and nothing was broken! The movers in both Calgary and Vancouver were very polite and professional. That Guy Van Lines is very professional, dependable, reliable, reasonably priced and the movers are EXCELLENT! Long-distance move from Surrey, BC to Edmonton, AB

Surrey to Edmonton move.

We moved our son from Surrey to Edmonton, and from the initial call to the final item being unloaded, I can't say enough positive things about this company. Unlike larger companies their quote is based on cubic feet as opposed to weight, a huge bonus as there are no surprise costs. I was able to send photos of the contents of the townhouse to the office and received a quote that didn't waiver and was $4000 (yes, $4000!) less than any of their competitors. Plus, they were able to give me a window of a day or two for delivery, whereas everyone else seemed to think 10 days was fine. The office staff are amazing and were able to answer all my questions and set my mind at ease. The moving team arrived exactly when promised and the unloading team did the same. The furniture was securely wrapped in moving pads, and loaded with great care. Michael and Terry on the Surrey side, and Robert and RJ on the Edmonton side worked hard to get the job done professionally and personably. Everything arrived exactly as it left without any damage at all. This company is our only choice for future moves and I would highly recommend them to anyone considering a long distance or even a local move. Thank you to everyone at That Guy for making a stressful event.. easy!

Horrible service.

3 Hour move:
two young inexperience boys showed up 2 hours late to do the move. They arrived without gloves, food or water.
We had to feed them! No problem except they dropped our 2500$ table while loading, and broke it to smithereens!
Again, no problem because they reassured us that their company would reimburse us! HAHAHA.. NO.. even after numerous emails THAT GUY VAN LINES dismissed us and said we were out of luck.
So..this company is only about making MONEY not SERVICE.

Local move within British Columbia

Horrible customer service.

I hired this company to move our belongings from Kelowna to Squamish, BC. I got an email stating that with a 2 bedroom move they expected me to have 50-60 boxes which was an exaggeration. I emailed them with my dissatisfaction, told them I only had 30 boxes. Prior to my move, they said the needed to charge my credit card in FULL to see if I had enough funds. (1st red flag)

They showed up at 8:30am at the scheduled day, 30 minutes into the move, the driver decides to walk into my washroom, where my purse, wallet, keys and other important items were and remain there for another 10-15 minutes. I suddenly realized that he was taking a dump, and I had just removed all the toilet paper from the bathroom since I was moving. So he didn’t wash his hands, didn’t use toilet paper nor asked me if he can use my restroom. I kindly told him when he walked out, to just ask me next time, if it was an emergency I completely understand. (plus I could of supplied him with toilet paper the very least!!) His response was nonchalant, whatever and continued to sip his coffee. His demeanour was chauvinistic; like I can do whatever I want and you can’t say anything about it. It was more his attitude I had an issue with. I called to complain about the events and his attitude, the receptionist said she’d contact the manager because I wanted another driver. I didn’t want him in my home nor touching my belongings. When she called back, the manager said that if I had an issue that I had to pay and additional $80.00 to get new crew. That’s when I understood that any complaints will never get answered or resolved and the customer is always at fault. So I tolerated them for another 2 hours. They left large scuff marks on the bedroom door because the driver didn’t want to unscrew the feet of my sofa bed. No apologies for the marks, when I managed to get off the marks using Magic Eraser, his response was “Thank God for that Magic Eraser”. They kept taking boxes and bags from areas that I told them not to take and I had to constantly ask for those items back. If I was not on top of things, numerous items would of gotten missing.
At this point, I just wanted him out. The receptionist said that it will not be the same crew for the unloading in Squamish.
A day before my move, I had no response to what time I was to expect my delivery, I had to call them at 5:30pm because I still hadn’t booked the elevator time. They apologized and said they were still figuring things out for my move. They gave me an estimate of delivery from 10-2pm, at 9 am, I call them to know the whereabouts of the drivers because I was on my way there. The receptionist called me back and stated that the driver hadn’t left yet and was still in Chilliwack and would arrive there by 12:30-1 pm; they arrived at 12:30pm, with the SAME driver!! Dump man. Pieces of furniture were being brought into the apartment damaged such as fireplace mantle which the driver blamed me for missing screws, wine glasses shattered, he shrugged his shoulders and said yeah that’s glass..despite my efforts in wrapping and marking glass -Fragile, legs of desk were broken, all my furniture was dismantled even though I didn’t ask for that, Scuffed my walls in my brand apartment because he didn’t want to take the legs off the sofa bed. AGAIN.
Unwillingly paid for this service and a week later get an additional charge of $109.47 no elevator fee was not charged by the driver who wrote my bill. No call, no explanation, they have your credit card information and decide how much and when to charge.
Once I again I had to call and speak to the receptionist and ask what was this additional charge and why there was no call. I explained that there were things broken and didn’t bother to complain because it’s no point.
In all, as I read all your horrible experiences, it could of been much worse.

If you don’t want the headache, STAY AWAY. Not worth the price or experience. I wish I read all your reports before booking them.

That Guy Van Lines movers are exceptional. My cousin said that the movers on her end (Vernon) were very professional and the movers at our end (Burnaby) – Mike and Don – were excellent. Long-distance move from Calgary, AB to White Rock, BC

Calgary to White Rock move.

I hired this company to move very little belonging from Calgary to White Rock. The guys that came to Calgary were good and it went well. However the drop off in White Rock was suppose to be between 2-6 and I got a call saying that it wouldn't happen it would be in the morning. I then said I took the afternoon off from work and now you're asking me to take more time off work and not be compensated for it because you cannot guarantee your delivery time now! I insisted if they couldn't deliver that day I wanted a discount. The truck showed up at about 8pm, the drivers were tired they marked my walls, they lost an item, they didn't put runners down on my carpets like they said they would!! Its been a week now and I am still awaiting the manager of this company to return my call and for them to locate my missing item. Apparently they know where it is but are having a hard time contacting the people. It's unacceptable. 8 boxes, and about 8 big pieces and 3 smaller ones for $840.00. You would think that it would be a simple move and they would be able to get it all right. The most frustrating is the [EDIT] I am being fed. I do not recommend this company, and I probably have to consider my item lost and carpet cleaning on top of that and some touch up on my walls. I wish I would of read the reviews first!
