Long-distance move from Spokane, WA to Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Stay away if you want to save yourself and your family a ton of stress

Stay away if you want to save yourself and your family a ton of stress, agony and frustration. On the surface the company seems legit and trustworthy but the reality is that these people are using an organized front to run a scam that relies on legal loopholes and contracts that are written in favor of the moving company. They use fake reviews to maintain their rating, just look at the recent reviews, no context, no details just random 5 starts with one line reviews. I will give a short summary and go in details, feel free to respond to the comment if you want to know more about my experience and in general what to look out for when working with companies like this.

Summary - Hired Sunflower to move from WA to CA. Andy & Luis reached out after I did an online query on some website. Andy assured me that I will not have to worry about the move and they will be there for support throughout the move. I was told the carrier is their own West coast partner and not some random company and they even sent me email receipts for proof. Day of move a totally different carrier shows up (Northwest Relocations, google them to see the horror), my deposit money is on the hook and I was out of options and had to proceed with the move even though Sunflower lied about the carrier. They know this, that once you pay them the first part of the payment, after 72 hrs you can't refund it and the carriers show up for the move after a week at least. They use this as leverage over you so even if you send back the carrier on the day of the move, they still may thousands on the initial deposit.

Once the carrier came, the folks I spoke to during the booking, they disappeared. Andy never came on the call to answer for the mess of a service they ended up giving me and I was told that my "case" is now with operations and that Andy is from Sales. After the movers left, this is when Sunflower started to show their real color. In the name of updates, I got template responses about "we will let you know". The carrier contact details they shared with me never worked. If you search NW relocations, you will see what kind of company Sunflower does business with. I could never get in touch with the carrier and Sunflower kept fading away in their communication as well to the point they started threatening that they will switch me to email only communication. Claire is the one who was handling my operations case and like others they are all trained in diversion and providing no value updates to the customer.

For 30 days, I had no update on where my belongings are and when will they be delivered. Sunflower had the working contact details of the carrier but never shared it with me saying it's policy they can't share the details, which makes no sense at all. They did share contact details but they were bogus.

I had to resort to filing a police complain in WA and hire a lawyer in Florida and compose a detailed complaints against Sunflower and file it to multiple bodies like FMCSA and event sent a complain to Attorney general in Florida. After constant pushing and going through the stress and frustration of more than a month, I finally got my things but I would be an idiot if I ever work with Sunflower or recommend anyone to work with them. Turn away while you can, they are really good at what they do, scamming people.

Long-distance move from Allen Park, MI to Knoxville, TN

Does not follow agreed upon schedules

After speaking with Jeff, him consulting with dispatch not once but twice that the dates were possible & there “wouldn’t be any problems,” we paid a deposit for services to be moved from MI to TN on 9/30 for our items to be picked up 10/7 with delivery typically within 24-48 hours, guaranteed no later than the morning of 10/11 as we made it well known a toolbox getting shipped is needed to begin working on the 11th. We were told by Jeff we’d receive a call the same day with a guaranteed date and time for pickup, didn’t receive it until the following day, told we’d have a pickup date now of 10/7 OR 10/8. The 7th came, no contact, we called, that afternoon they finally returned the call that the driver was delayed, pickup wouldn’t be until Saturday, the 9th between 9am-12pm, she’d call back with a confirmation of the exact time in 1-2 hours. We figured since it’s supposed to be delivered within 24-48 hours, no later than the 11th, it’d be ok, we could work around the possible few hours delay of getting the toolbox off the truck. Never received that confirmation call either. Saturday came, 9-12 went by, we started trying to reach out to find out what was going on. We left voicemails at 3 different numbers, spoke to one person who claimed he was just a “weekend guy” & didn’t know anything about any of the contracts, he’d send an email and someone would get back to us. We didn’t hear anything. Around 4, we filed a discrepancy with the our credit company since our contract had not been fulfilled, services were not rendered as agreed upon, and we hadn’t been able to reach anyone and our time was running out. About 20 minutes later after our bank stated we should have the funds refunded within 48 hours, our driver called to notify us that due to circumstances & another job he picked up, he wouldn’t be in MI by tomorrow, that the earliest he could be here was Monday morning. We told him we couldn’t wait that long, it wasn’t what we agreed to. He said he didn’t know what we were talking about, he was our original driver and had told the company the soonest he could be here was Sunday morning. I said it isn’t what we were told or agreed to & he notified us he’d call the company to let them know we wanted to cancel and get a refund. Not 20 minutes later, we received a call from Sunflower stating they understood our frustration, but they spoke to dispatch and our driver would be arriving between 3pm-6pm the following day, Sunday. I told her again that we couldn’t wait that long, my fiancé has to start work Monday and needs the toolbox that was to be moved on the truck. She claimed it was the first they heard of that. She tried telling me the original pickup date that was contracted was the 10/8, that she called on 10/7 to notify us the pickup date was delayed and wouldn’t be until Saturday or Sunday, she’d call back in an hour or two to confirm the time and date. She then claimed she told the carrier to call us with a date/time confirmation & admitted she did not call us back as promised. You could hear a man in the background coaching her on what to say to us on the phone while all this is going on. Then she says she just spoke to the actual driver, not dispatch, (how she was on the phone having two different conversations with two different people at the same time is beyond me) and the driver is saying he told us he’d be there between 3pm and 6pm. She believes what we’re saying, and that we’re not lying, but it’s what she’s being told and can’t we work with that. I again said no, again explained why, stated we had to call multiple times trying to reach someone, and just wanted a refund and because we couldn’t reach anyone to discuss that, we filed a discrepancy charge since services were not rendered as agreed upon. She then told me the bank will require we try to work it out with them first and because we are refusing to allow their driver whom is already en route to our location, we are not eligible for a refund. I explained they did not meet the agreed upon terms in the contract, we expressed a need for a service by a specific date, and that service was not met. We already filed a dispute so arguing over it on the phone was a moot point because we just couldn’t keep pushing our pickup day later which then pushed the delivery day. I was then informed to look at section 12 of the contract, that dates/times are estimates only, they are not held responsible, any & all information would be handed to their legal team, & all further contact would be made via email only. I said that’s good cuz at least then everything they say is in writing and they can’t contradict themselves any more & she hung up on me.

We were never told they were moving brokers and that they subcontract jobs out. I DO NOT recommend using this “service” unless you don’t have any time table requirements & don’t mind getting multiple stories as to why they are not responsible so they can’t, won’t, or don’t have to do their job they were hired for.

Long-distance move from Bainbridge, OH to Allen, TX

Great care was taken!

These moving guys were super friendly from the get-go. Setting up my appointment was thorough, professional, and everything was explained to me. I also received a confirmation with instructions and a call four days beforehand to confirm everything. I was definitely out at ease. The Sunflower Transit packed everything well so that nothing would get damaged and nothing was damaged! Thanks, guys!!

Long-distance move from Austin, TX to Charlotte, NC

Everything they quoted was a lie

If I could rate 0 stars, then I would. They quoted us $2500 for a move with a guarantee it would be at the new location in 3 days. They called to take inventory about a week before showing up. Then told us, we actually were going to have be pushed back by a day. Not the biggest deal in the world, we just had to reschedule some things. However on the day of the move, they called us and told us that the new quote was $5600 and that our packages would “get there when they get there.” We tried to negotiate down to 4 grand, which already would stretch us incredibly thin, to which they replied “we can take half of your stuff for that price.” Out of principle, we just took a uhaul and did it ourselves. The worst customer service possible imaginable.

Wish there was a 0 rating

First let me say , I never in my 60+ years understood how companies are able to take advantage of honest hard working people and stay in Business. This is the worst company possible. They are very scandalous. They talk like they care about your moving needs but when it comes time to follow thru they are no where to be found. Claire, Cameron, and Jeff are all allowed to take advantage of hard working consumers. The first guy Jeff quoted me a price went through the whole script, of what he felt I needed. Sounded good for a whole 2 months. Then 2 months later ... 1 WEEK BEFORE MOVEDAY....Cameron calls to say that Jeff's estimate(735cf) is not correct and that I should have more space(1500 cf), based on the exact same inventory I gave Jeff!!! He strongly advised that if I don't pay an extra 2000+ that a lot of my stuff will be left behind! And if I don't need a $10,000 truck, them you'll just pay for what you use( his words). My whole problem with this process is Sunflower has not checked on me once to see if I was happy or if things were going ok, or even if I had any questions. When I called Cameron back because I was going to change my inventory to somehow NOT reflect me using a 15 00 cf Truck which would cost $10,000 he was no where to be found!! Claire who was my original broker disappeared too!Iwas only able to speak to her 1 time during this entire process. To add insult to my already straight up injury the movers came and could not see where I paid an extra $2000+ to Cameron! Fast forward to 3 weeks later the movers are 12 days late with my goods, holding them hostage because they say they cannot get in my city and they have to rent a smaller truck to bring my goods, which will cost $900 MORE CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS!!!!!! Still no help from Sunflower!! I hope I can save someone from this extreme heartache!! DO NOT SELECT SUNFLOWER LLC, out-of-Florida THE BROKERS ARE CROOKED AND CANIVING!! And they DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU... US THE CUSTOMER. IT'S TOTALLY ONLY ABOUT THE MONEY NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! My next review is to the BBB!! THESE PEOPLE TRULY NEED TO BE STOPPED SOMEHOW. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HARD WORKING PEOPLE AND THEIR HARDWORKING MONEY LIKE THIS!!

Highly recommended!!

The wonderful expert guidance during the estimating and planning process to the meticulous packing and careful problem freeloading, the process was done with professionalism, courtesy, and good cheer. The team leader and his team are experts, efficient and speedy. Also, the several calls on both days during the process asking about progress and offering any help needed were of great comfort and help. Many thanks to the whole team for a job well done!

Long-distance move from State College, PA to Ponca City, OK

Completely unprofessional: unwanted surprises at every turn

We hired Sunflower Transit for our cross-country move. We had a low estimate at first for a very good price, which is how they got us into a contract, and they completely redid it the week before our move to charge us almost double for mostly boxes and only 5 pieces of furniture (bookcases). But then the movers actually come to our apartment and say that the estimate we had was still way lower than our stuff will actually take up in the truck, even though we had 14 boxes fewer and a full desk less than the actual estimate we were given that they didn’t need to include in the truck. Their whole scheme seems to be to low-ball you to get you in a contract and then charge you way more when movers actually show up! Completely ridiculous, and the moving company that actually picked up our stuff (CR7) was rude and asked us for $100 tips per person and did not phrase it as optional. I would suggest you measure the cubic feet of your stuff as close as possible before anyone picks it up or do not use this company.

Long-distance move from Portland, OR to Minneapolis, MN

Refund

Again in rereading the contract and reviewing my rights under the website you provided. Your company's representative was not clear. I asked your company's representative if "I can cancel?''. They advised me that I could cancel, as long as it is within the timeframe provided in the contract. They did not mention to me at all that a "requested move date time frame" is the same thing as an "available pickup date." I was advised to wait for a phone call to schedule my final pickup date. Which was asked many times and I said Oct 17th, through Oct 19th. So if anything this should have been my requested move date.10/17/22 through 10/19/22.

Once I found out the payment method, I immediately hung up the phone. Your company called me back right away. I explained to Sam why I did not feel comfortable with going through with my order. Immediately before Sam could speak, his manager got on the phone. I advised the manager how I feel more comfortable with a credit card payment method just in case something were to happen I have my bank back me up. I explained to the supervisor multiple times that I did not feel comfortable. The supervisor advised me, "Since you mentioned a dispute I do not know if we should do business with each other." Your comapny's supervisor pressured me into signing a deal. Additionally, this seems like a bait and switch kind of scenario where both Sam and the supervisor understood the difference between Requested Move Date (as stated in my contract of 9/20/22 - 10/20/22.), they knew I could not cancel and I would lose 50% of my funds, therefore the company collects and makes money. If they would have explained to me that I would not be able to get my full refund back because of how they completed the contract then I would have totally understood. This is a sneaky and underhanded trick, that is a complete violation of the regulation UDAAP. (Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Practices).

To conclude, I would like between $500 to -$600 dollars of my money back, through Venmo or Zelle. If not we will go into arbitration. Along with the complaints to the the BBB, CPB, State of Florida, and City of Palm Beach. So please let's not let it get to this. Because really under the section of red flags of the website provided in the contract your company has an 85%match, and I am sure the FMSCA would love to hear about this.

I appreciate a timely and quick response. Additionally please be advised that if I do not receive my money seeing as I work from home I will continue to reach out every hour on the hour till I get my funds. If your company tries to block my number, there are ways around this, as well. Everything I am saying to your company is not a threat, but a foreshadowing of what is to come.

April this is nothing against you personally. I am sure you are a wonderful human being, and I wish you the best in life. My money is my money, and I deserve it back. Your company is not clear and completed a bait and switch which is completely illegal.

All did well

It was great fun collaborating with Gabriel and the rest of the team. Their positive attitude instantly put me at ease, and we had a few hearty belly laughs. This has been the smoothest relocation I've ever experienced, and I owe it all to your professionalism and optimism. In the past, I have moved about quite a bit. There is a lot of praise for Sunflower Transit.
