Long-distance move from New Orleans, LA to Ocala, FL

Move from New Orleans to Ocala FL

Worst Experience ever. First, I was unaware safe ship farmed out to movers. Second, They use the bottom of the barrel individuals who are trying to scam you from the beginning before and after pick up. Safe ship started my quote at for this 570 mile trip and with furniture I moved into storage with a 26 ft truck at $12000 plus. When I told him I wasn't interested in spending that much he kept saying he was speaking to his MGR for discounts and got the price to $7900. This was about 2k more than I thought it should be, however I was 1000 miles away and reluctantly agreed because I was told there would be no additional charges. 2 days later a Mgr called and asked if I had told them everything in storage because it would be more if I didn't give all the correct info. I told him I had and if they found I had to pay 1 more dime I would cancel. He assured me no other charges would be brought.

The movers I found out later would pick up on Friday at 2PM. I had someone there to meet them which cost that person $500 to move a job. Guess what, they were a no show. Then they say they will be there at 8 am sat and contact me at 10 saying they are running late and will show up after 11. Also costing my friend an additional $500 loosing another job. I told Habib, the person I was speaking with that I was not paying for anything else and if he thought for a moment it would be more to cancel. Now the amazing thing is he was picking up on Sat and not delivering until Tues, Habib thought he could deliver any time he wanted. Once he picked up he told my friend I was 300 cubic ft over what I paid for. He was told at that time to call me and he choose not to. He then sent me a text the following day saying I had to pay an addtional $2500 if I wanted my stuff. I told him to eat shit. I had to have police there to intervene, Safe ship refused to get involved.

We are sorry your experience with was less than satisfactory. Correct, we are a Broker. Our Broker Status is certainly not something that we attempt to hide, it is listed on our website and all documentation. The fee collected by Safe Ship Moving Services is a broker fee. This is our fee for arranging a fully licensed/insured motor carrier to move/handle your household goods and possessions. Moving is a stressful time and most people are simply incapable of remembering & identifying every single thing they plan on moving. Prices would never be increased without increased services or Inventory. Very similar to a real estate broker, our fee is proportionate to the move size. If the move or volume increases, so does the Broker fee.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to address your concerns. We will use your feedback to identify training opportunities. Thank you.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to West Hollywood, CA

BEWARE!! Do not use this company! You've been warned!

I just completed my 4th interstate move and this by far was the worst experience ever! Please note, Safe Ship IS NOT a moving company but simply a broker who you pay to "shop" your move to moving companies. I was totally aware of this, however the problem is that the moving companies they deal with are bottom of the barrel, borderline criminal in the way that they carry out their business. The pickup crew (Top Rated Moving Van Lines) didn't even have a legitimate truck. They basically rented a truck and put a removable placard with their company info on the side of it. The drop-off crew was similar and didn't even bother to put the company info on the truck (I still don't even know the name of the company, which is probably by design). Anyways, once they have your belongings they will extort you for more money, show up late (if at all), handle your belongings with the least care possible, and ignore just about every covenant in the contract you signed with Safe Ship. I was originally quoted $3,200 for my move from NYC to LA, yet it ended up costing over $5,500, and this was AFTER "credits applied due to the multiple complaints throughout the process. Had I not read my contract and spoken up when the movers were trying to scam me, I would have been out of pocket over $7,000. Safe Ship is complicit in all of this and only steps in when you basically force them to. I find it funny that it was easy to reach them prior to the move, but I would often get routed to voice mail when trying to contact them regarding the extreme poor service from the movers.

Before moving, I did a cost analysis of how much it would be to move my stuff vs just selling all of it and buying new items and it was cheaper to move my current belongings. Had I known the cost would have ballooned to $5,500 I would have taken the other route. I will admit that I had a few more items than what was initially provided to Safe Ship, but they were all boxes, nothing bulky. When I disclosed the additional boxes during the final inventory review, the rep specifically told me "this isn't enough to materially change the size or cost of your move so I will leave everything as is". I was fine with paying a few more hundred for the additional boxes and was prepared to do so.

To keep a long story short, the movers (Top Rated Moving Van Lines) showed up, put everything on the truck and then proceed to tell me that the size of my belongings were double than what was in the contract. Based on the inventory I provided, Safe Ship estimated my belongings to be about 360 cubic ft, but the movers said it came out to 680 and the total cost of the move would now be just under $6,000. Being that there were no major items added to the list disclosed to Safe Ship, I was immediately skeptical so before I signed off on anything I asked the "head" mover to let me see the measurements for myself. He first tried to tell me that he didn't have a tape measure (mind you, that they had a full tool box in the truck) so I told them I would get one from my doorman. Once I returned with the tape measure, he then tells me that he would measure it himself and I was not allowed into the truck for safety reasons. I ignore him and say I want to see the measurements for myself. Just as I thought, the measurements came in around 500 cubic ft, which was much lower than the 680 cubic ft that he quoted. This was a difference of over $1,000!! Of course, at this point the head mover became irritated because I caught him trying to scam me. He refused to knock off the full amount based on the actual calculation and said he would base it on 550 cubic ft, and nothing lower, which came out to about $800 off the original quote. He proceeded to get nasty and tell me that "this is how it works when you broker your move out to companies like us", "this isn't a charity, we're here to make a profit", and "I'll put all of your stuff on the curb right now and drive off if you don't agree with this amount!". Though younger me probably would have probably acted in a very different manner, I did manage to keep my cool as I was completely aware that they had my belongings and did not want them to get broken or purposely end up missing. I paid their portion based on the new amount and even tipped the other movers and decided to take it up with Safe Ship.

By this point, I just wanted to be done with the process and move on with my life. I rarely write reviews, but really feel people should be informed about how this company operates. If I save just one person from falling victim to this scam, I feel I have done my job. Do your research before picking a mover and STAY AWAY from the brokers as you will have no control over who your movers are and will be at their mercy once they have your belongings. Save yourself the stress and pick a reputable end-to-end mover even if it costs more. After all, you'll most likely end up paying for it anyways.

Again, we truly are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Worst company

After going through my itemized list for my move multiple times, nobody ever asked me the size of my items. On moving day, they let me know I was paying by cubic ft, not my list, and I was $500 over my paid price. In addition, they could not bring my mattress or sofas unless I paid an extra 300, so 800 over my estimate. When I called customer service, she told me, “yes, and no partial refunds for your items not delivered.” Would never ever recommend.

Long-distance move from Chesapeake, VA to Ann Arbor, MI

DO NOT use this company or service

Let me start by saying I've moved 8 times in the last 12 years. Most have been cross-country moves. We've done full-service corporate relocations using big name long-haul movers. Then we've done smaller moves that were more hybrid using ABF Freight. For this move from VA to MI, we decided to use this broker as we were both working full time and wanted a company that pre-vetted the mover. Worst moving decision we've ever made!

First off - when calling to get a quote, we started off by giving an estimate of amount of household goods. I had a fairly good guess, because we'd moved only 1 year earlier from TX to VA. At that time we had a 28' truck that was crammed full. I knew that it would require something larger as we'd obtained more furniture pieces while in VA. So that information was provided right off the bat. They wanted to do a verbal inventory, so we did. I overestimated the size of things like sectional sofas, patio table, dressers. They ran it through their algorithm and came up with an amount of cubic feet needed. Agent indicated that they will arrive in a semi-truck and we will be charged/refunded based on how much we use.

Fast forward to within days of move - we do a more detailed inventory now that we've got boxes packed. We had done a relatively good initial inventory according to them. Again I OVER estimated size of things.

I don't get name of mover until day before - I look up reviews and they are terrible. Like one star. I couldn't have picked a worse one And they're in New Jersey (I'm in Virginia Beach, VA)?!

Movers arrive 2 hours later than arrival window roll up to my house in a 28' box truck (reminder one of first conversations with Safe Ship - we moved a year earlier, 28' will be too small, so I know we'll need larger). Supposed to send semi-truck and charge based on what we use. Didn't happen.

Thankfully the mover had taken a look at the detailed inventory I'd given Safe Ship, he knew it wouldn't fit in a 28' truck, so he had gotten another truck moving from NJ which was 7 hours away. He walked around our house, looked at the amount of stuff to be moved and indicated that we would use most of that 2nd 28' truck. Which grew our bill to the tune of an additional almost $10,000. Inventory wasn't significantly different than what I'd given Safe Ship, but whatever they use to calculate the cubic feet needed, woefully underestimated the need.

So my decision to make was to either pay the extra $10,000 (in cash) to get my mover underway or try to find a long-haul mover that could start the job the following day (unlikely) because our house was closing and we had to be out. I had no other choice than to pay the extra money and move forward.

You can image the rest - items damaged or missing when they arrive, moving truck shows up 10 days earlier than scheduled and we have to jump through all sorts of hoops to accommodate them. Moving company customer service unpleasant is putting it kindly. A DISASTER! Although I was willing to pay the extra money to have it go smoothly. Never would I ever recommend using this service. Your money gets you nothing. Even if you've never moved before, you can do a better job handling it yourself than paying extra $$ for this broker. The moving company told me that I paid an extra 25% for the broker fee, so in our case that was $6250 for nothing but problems. DO NOT USE THEM

Long-distance move from Washington DC to Georgia

Be ready to pay more than what they tell you

Be ready to pay more than what they tell you and read the small font before signing!

Booking was the easiest part, and the representative was very nice. He warned about costs being higher once they would load the truck since inventory was just an estimated amount, but it ended up being TWICE as much. It would have been better to do a more detailed walk of inventory or given us a range, so it wasn't a surprise when they picked it up. There are also extra costs they warn you about when booking such as distance between truck and apartment number.

Another surprise cost happened when they dropped off our items. They used a shared load 18-wheeler to drive our things which couldn't access our building. it was written in the smallest font in the contract that there was an extra charge per cubic feet for a shuttle service from large truck to a moving van.

Last complain it that they do not tell you exactly when they will be picking up or dropping off your stuff until 24 hours before. Our moving elevator was booked for the time they were coming, and we asked if they could come later in the afternoon, but they arrived even earlier and got upset we didn't have the elevator booked.

We are sorry your relocation did not go as expected, however Safe Ship Moving is the broker so we wouldn’t have been able to double your rates as we do not have authority to pick up items as a broker. We will launch an investigation with the carrier who handled your items to make sure your issues are addressed properly.

Horrible Estimators

DO NOT USE THEM!!! I am beyond furious at Safe Ship. Recently the movers came at 7:30pm (1.5 hours later than agreed upon) and they did not leave until 2am. I have 3 children that this move disrupted in a very harmful way. What upsets me the most right now is that they quoted me 768 cubic feet for all of my things and it was only HALF of what I needed to move. I was only able to get the movers to take the big furniture and even that was 200 cubic feet more than what they quoted me for everything that I told them that needed to be moved. Now I have to make arrangements at the very last minute for everything else that needs to be moved. Not to mention that this is going to cost me about $1,000 more than I was told. I understand if I needed a little more room and they still took everything but I was over and they only took half of what I needed to be taken. Even the driver looked at the list and told me that the estimate was way off. I was very honest and very precise in what I said I needed to move. Especially with QA. Safe Ship is horrible at estimations. They claim to be a veteran owned organization but I seriously doubt that. Safe Ship stabbed me in the back and hurt my children. And they caused me to spend thousands of more dollars than any of their estimations. I also had to get additional storage and hire another mover to help that will drive up my moving costs even higher. DO NOT USE THEM!!!higher.

Already concerned in advance of scheduled move...

When I initially spoke with Mia (Sr. Logistics Coordinator), I felt incredibly comfortable and reassured based on several of our conversations, the length of time she spent going over detailed information. So I paid a $1,200 non-refundable deposit (no services yet provided). Then I received notification that Mia is no longer with the company and when I called to obtain more information (as I am a month out from my move... to another state... and trying my best to plan and be prepared), I had the displeasure of speaking to Michelle, allegedly the Manager. Not only did she speak while I was speaking, so the entire conversation was us both speaking at the same time, but no additional information could be/was obtained during the call. She continued to tell me that she wouldn't be able to narrow down the 1-10 day delivery (after items are picked up). How might someone who has zero belongings know where they are to travel to be present when the movers do arrive at destination? Furthermore, Michelle advised that by paying more money ($1 per mile) was the only way to guarantee a 1-2 day move, otherwise all your belongings could be loaded, unloaded, and re-loaded onto multiple trucks before finally arriving. In my mind, the less loading and unloading would minimize damage and increase efficiency. I understood that was exactly what their dispatch team did, was coordinate all of the logistics in advance so that a clear and proper order of pick-ups and drop-offs were planned based on each truck and moving team?? I was also advised at the time of my booking there would be 4 movers arriving (1 foreman & 3 movers) so I'm extremely concerned to read that was not the situation for other moves based on reviews. Then to make matters worse, Michelle makes a comment (implying my move isn't important or that somehow, I shouldn't be concerned) because it is still a month away. Exactly, I am doing everything I can to ensure the smoothest out-of-state move possible (as opposed to waiting until the day before as she shared, she personally did recently... good for you Michelle, some of us prefer to have a plan). I am completely nervous now and unsettled about using Safe Ship and do not know what to do... I either lose the $1,200 deposit and find another company or stick with them but based on all of the reviews, they seem to broker with terrible moving companies and then simply hide behind their contract saying we have no control, or say, in what happens... well then why are you involved in process at all if not to help?!

Already completely discouraged and dissatisfied.

~M. Ryan

Scam scam scam scam scam

Safe Ship did a phone estimate of my inventory. Movers (not actual safe ship workers, but a company contracted by safe shop to do the job) showed up on moving day and tried to tell me that my cubic footage was double then what was given over the phone. I expected a small change as I am aware that uneven items and things like moving blankets take up space. But not double. Additionally, I removed 2 large items from the move that were on the initial estimate. The mover tried to say my stuff was 1300 cubic feet. And the original estimate was 600. I ended up telling the movers to leave and I went with another company. Actual cubic footage with the new company was 700 cubic feet.

So safe ship essentially price matched to win the business, took a "non refundable" deposit from me, and then contracted a company who tried to double the square footage to make their money back.

Never use a moving service "broker"

Never again will we use a moving service "broker." Safe Ship brokered our move. From start to finish: terrible communication (hard to even reach a human being); the move took 30 full days when we were told verbally it would be 4 days (and yes, we know the moving company is "allowed" to take 30 days, but that was not how our move was characterized); even though we provided a detailed inventory, we ended up paying HUNDREDS more than we were told it would cost, AND we had to move another truckload ourselves, and the load we moved (a month after we left our old home for our new one) arrived literally 30 minutes before the moving van did - we lived with an air mattress and a suitcase of clothing for a month; throughout this nightmare, Safe Ship kept saying "call the moving service" even though SS was "our" contact, "our" broker, "our" first line of communication. Terrible experience overall ... stressful, financially painful.

We were given false information and charged an additional $900 for weight fees coming from information given from an employee of this company that was wrong. Beware Seniors don't believe the hype. We will never forget how we were treated and check the BBB for information. They tell you the conversations are recorded, so you need to go back and see that your employees are telling customers anything to get a sale. God sees all and the Seniors should not be treated in this fashion. You are not a reputable company. We saw that this was a veteran ran company, so really this is how you treat people. Shame on you. We are immensely sorry about your relocation experience with the carrier that we provided for you. Safe Ship Moving services is a moving broker, we charge a fee (deposit) for finding a moving company (carrier) to move your items. This fee is for arranging for a fully licensed, bonded, and insured motor carrier to move and handle your household items. When you refer to your quote increase you are referring to the carrier fee. Upon arrival the carrier charges a seperate fee for the pickup, delivery and transportation of items. The first half is due upon pickup and second half due upon delivery of your household goods at the intended destination address. Safe Ship Moving Services does not participate in the collection of carrier payment nor do we share in the proceeds of carrier charges. Once your payment is processed with us (required deposit amount) we will immediately have our dispatch department initiate the process of locating a licensed and insured carrier to transport your household goods.

Run! Don’t waste $$$$

I will post more as soon as I calm down!

FOR THOSE PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Spend near $4700 for 921 cubic foot of household items from Va to Fl, with a $1600 up front reservation fee 1st red flag, I paid the fee and was given a pickup date of 23 Jan, the movers arrived 90 mins later these movers were from Long Distance Van Lines a 1-star company from union NJ, they looked at my storage unit and told me it was more then 921 cu ft and that I needed to pay and additonal $2000 cash (only) 2nd red flag, after some back and forth with their “management” and the “customer service” from safeship moving I told them to forget it and I want my money back, I was told that if they departed the premises I would forfeit my $1600 deposit bc it was outside of the 3 day refund window!!! They kept on pressing for me to accept the $2k cash on top of the $4700 quoted to take all my household goods. Fuming at this point, I told them to take 921 cu ft of items that I had boxed and packaged neatly to include a washer and dryer set that is a couple months new, they packed “921 cu ft” of items, half of the stuff I needed moved and wanted cash for the remaining balance of the $4700, 3rd red flag, I paid them since I have a bill of lading and it was the only method of payment that was allowed. 5 days later no phone call, no updates and the foreman of the pickup quit. I reached out to a +1 (551) 430-1208 number and was told my stuff would be loaded on tuesday jan 31, with and estimated deliver outside of the original 7-10 day window, bit my tongue since they have my stuff. Friday rolls around Feb 3rd before they finally loaded my stuff, and deliver happened today Feb 6, 15 days and $4700 later shattered glass everywhere, truck arrived looking like a garbage truck, stuff were just thrown in there fragile boxes smashed, and a 5-7pm window ended up being around 8:45pm with 1 mover (door to door is what was agreed) thanks to a few neighbors items were offloaded. Please take your money and pay more for a company that has their own truck and movers and not one that farms out their contacts to the crappiest bidder. A formal complaint will be submitted to BBB but posting this quick review to save potential victims from this company.

RUN THE OTHER WAY

Please run the other way. Our original quote was about $5500, then after a 3 hour quality control call where we went over EVERY item I had, dimensions and all, the price jumped up to $8300 and when the movers came the final price was $13,000. They even brought a second truck knowing they would need it even though the estimate they gave me said we wouldn't even use a full truck. A $7,500 price difference from the estimated quote is absolute robbery. I talked with everyone I could, and I pride myself on integrity and shared literally everything we owned, but all they could say is the system they use for estimates doesn't take in consideration items that can't be stacked. That's BS in my book. I truly feel like this is a bate and switch company. We booked this moving company because we have 3 kids that are age 2 and under and I am pregnant, so I wanted to take the stress of moving away, but all this company did was add an immense amount of stress and literally drained our savings. So please, please book with a different a different company.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $13000

Official company response

Here at Safe Ship Moving we strive to make moving as simple and stress free as possible. Every estimate is based on the moving needs (household goods inventory, extra required services, desired pickup and delivery) provided by the customer during the setup process.
We provided the estimate based on the inventory and article list that was given to your Logistics Coordinator. Upon pickup the carrier revised the estimate based on the space needed. As specifically notated in our contract, any additional space, packing materials or services needed are at an additional cost. The estimate is a powerful preliminary guide to determine the initial volume but what what you are paying for is the space used on the truck.

The estimate is a powerful preliminary tool for determining the initial volume. We take every measure to ensure the estimation process is as accurate as possible but our estimate is an only an approximation based on the inventory given by the customer. Our Cubic volume evaluation system is based off of national averages. The system inevitably will can not account for articles that are larger or smaller than the national average.

Our Quality Assurance Department exists specifically to prevent inaccurate estimations and to ensure that the customer receives an appropriate amount of truck space based on their inventory and article list.

Carriers often arrive at pickup locations with more than one truck as a precaution. With the substantial stress of moving, customers often forget about items, articles or whole rooms of furniture, so the carrier must arrive prepared.

Your feedback is crucial for helping us improve our services and overall customer experience.

DO NOT USE!!

Horrible moving brokers! This is a bait and switch. I did a FaceTime virtual estimate with Darren. Spoke with Wendy in customer service and Bud their manager. Giovanni was a moving consultant. Rachel was the manager. To get the job, they will say anything. They will always be available. They lie and when there are problems they keep ignore your call or tell you they are speaking with their manager to advocate for you.

Typical as with the other complaints:

1) SS estimate (mine was a FaceTime call and I showed Darren everything in my house) of course the movers on moving day, said SS did not give accurate Cubic feet. My bid increased $3400.

2) we were told we would have Atlas movers. Instead 3 Egyptian guys who couldn’t speak English came with 2 trucks painted over that were previously 2 men & a truck…

They were late. It took them 14 hours to load a 3 bedroom home. They hired day labors that were drug addicts who walked off the job. Moved all our furniture on the lawn, rained on our furniture and ruined so many antiques.

They finally loaded the 2 trucks and were done at 2:30 am

Met us at 7:00 pm (night time, total sketchy) the next night with our stuff. We just wanted our items. SS would not help. As stated above, kept saying we will call you back, we are trying to advocate for you.

Safe ship is HORRIBLE! Do not use them. Go with Mayflower or another large reputable company.

Safe ship: don’t you dare respond. Scamming customers, lying, you are doing horrible things to your customers. Imagine if someone treated your mother or sister like you are allowing these companies to treat people. SS is doing great now but trust me, one day SS will be investigated and justice will be done.

RUN - DO NOT ENGAGE!

RUN, DO NOT ENGAGE! THEY'LL SELL YOU ON ONE PRICE AND BROKER YOUR CONTRACT OUT TO A 3RD PARTY WHO WILL THEN DOUBLE THE PRICE UPON ARRIVAL WHO WILL THEN SELL YOUR CONTRACT TO ANOTHER COMPANY! YOU WON'T KONW WHERE YOUR FURNITURE IS, THEY WILL LITERALLY HOLD IT HOSTAGE - YOU WILL WORK WITH 3 DIFFERENT COMPANIES - SAFE SHIP, EZ MOVERS & STORAGE IN NJ (ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND RUDE) AND LASTLY XPRESS MOVERS OUT OF MIAMI - DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT GO THIS ROUTE!

So, Initially worked with Nick Ceriglio in FL - cool guy! Quoted me $3500 full service move from ATX to BK - thought it was too good to be true and it was! They took the deposit from my account days earlier - no biggie.

May 8th: Moving Day 1 - movers arrive 3 hours late, take a tour of my apartment (pausing to take selfies from my balcony) and then double the quote. After hours of sitting on hold with Safe Ship - they conveniently don't answer once they've gotten their fee - we agreed to move with the new price as I had to fly out days later.

Movers pack - I'm livid at the new price of $7200! I have to get to NYC for my new job - so be it!

Oh, yes, Nick initially told me that it would be there days later - in NYC

Week later - I'm contacted by a random person in NJ with EZ Movers & Storage (10 mount pleasant avenue, Dover, NJ, 908-494-0078)...this is when it gets VERY FUN!

This person strings me along for 3 full weeks saying my furniture would arrive on X day and then that day would arrive, no furniture, no phone call. I called multiple times and even ended in a screaming match on the Metro North as he was "bothered" that I was calling so many times after he failed to keep me updated as he said he would....at this point, I just want to fly to Houston to get my things (yes, they stored my things in Houston)...I was told by Safe Ship at this point if I flew down to get my things I'd still have to pay the fee - at this point, they're holding my furniture hostage...honestly, I cared little about the furniture but they had personal items in the shipment (degrees/old family photos/etc. - stuff I can't replace)....

June 1st: Moving Day 2: They FINALLY arrive - now, I'm working with some company based out of Miami - Xpress Relocations - they won't even open the truck until they're paid - at this point, I'M LIVID! They're now moving my things so we will have to see if everything arrived in one piece...literally typing this as they unload!

DO NOT ENGAGE - RUN!

Use ANYONE but this company

Working with this company was a nightmare from start to finish. The sales people (Giovanni specifically) is unethical, deceitful, and shady. He did a great job at sounding believable and trustworthy. I did an initial moving quote and told them it would not be enough space, they ensured that it was an easy fix we could do closer to the move. As soon as I signed the contract I stopped hearing from them, communication was nonexistent despite several texts and calls to them. On SATURDAY of memorial weekend they called to finalize my move, which more than doubled in price and volume. This left with me with no options as every moving company was closed until Tuesday and I had to be out of my lease by Wednesday. How convenient for them!

I would rather move my entire household of items by bike than use this moving company or work with Giovanni.

Unresponsive once you sign the contract, unethical, intentionally misleading. Made my moving experience an absolute nightmare.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: £6500

Official company response

The preliminary Estimate is just an Estimate. Every estimate is based on the moving needs (household goods inventory, extra required services, desired pickup and delivery) provided by the customer during the setup process.
We provided the estimate based on the inventory list that was provided to your Logistics Coordinator. Upon pickup the carrier revised the estimate based on the space needed. As specifically notated in our contract, any additional space, packing materials or services needed are at an additional cost. The estimate is a powerful preliminary guide to determine the initial volume but what what you are paying for is the space used on the truck.Loading and packing a moving truck requires a lot of time, energy, and knowledge to get all your items safely on the truck.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to address your concerns. If you have any questions, please call 888-798-2852.

Very Bad Service

Safe Ship Moving Service has made my cross country move one of the most miserable experiences of my lifetime. Please never use this company. They are the worst! They are a broker, so they contract out to find movers to ship your items for the cheapest cost. They usually contract with very inept moving companies.

I went through them to ship my furniture, belongings, and my car. The pick-up date of my car was delayed twice. I confirmed with them weeks before that my car would be picked up by Tuesday, April 25th since I was flying out of Los Angeles the evening of the 25th. The pick-up date was supposed to be April 23rd or 24th. I never received a call from the company with updates. I had to take the initiative to call them multiple times to find out why my car wasn't being picked up. I would call the company and the staff seemed to have no idea why a pick-up time wasn't on file. After days of confusion and no information from the staff, I finally was informed by a manager named Wendy that they company they hired to pick up my car canceled at the last minute and that they couldn't get a truck to pick up my car until Friday, April 28th. I told Wendy that this was unacceptable since I was promised the car would be picked up by April 25th since I was flying out that evening. She said that there was nothing she would do and that I would have to leave my car at a friend's place to be picked up. I had to inconvenience my friend who is a mother and works full time to have my car picked up at her house during working hours. I was happy my friend was willing to help. Wendy would not offer me a discount and was unapologetic to my situation.

Safe Ship Moving Service does not care about its customers and how stressful moving can be. They are only in business to make moving even more stressful than it already is. Please do not use this company.

Service cost: $1500

Official company response

We are very sorry to hear about the negative experience you had during your cross-country move. We deeply regret any inconvenience or stress that was caused as a result of the delays during the pick-up of your car. We understand that moving can be a challenging and demanding process, and we apologize for falling short of your expectations.

As a broker, we strive to provide reliable and efficient services by partnering with reputable moving companies.

We have thoroughly reviewed your situation, and we have taken immediate steps to address the issues you raised. We have implemented additional measures to improve communication with our contracted movers and ensure that such last-minute cancellations are minimized. Furthermore, we have reinforced training protocols for our staff to better handle situations where there is a lack of information or confusion regarding pick-up times.

We recognize that asking your friend to accommodate the pick-up of your car during working hours was an imposition. We will be addressing this matter internally to ensure that our team members are trained to provide compassionate and considerate customer service in all circumstances.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for the negative experience you had with Safe Ship Moving Service. If there is anything more we can do to assist you or if you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly. We are committed to resolving this matter to your satisfaction.

Worst experience

This company fails on nearly every front. They low ball quotes to get you to agree and then lie as to the actual bid. They did a terrible job transferring my things to a third party shipper from my storage unit who then told it would cost even more money. Then they finally delivered and sent one guy to unload the truck. One person. I complained that it took all day and I lost a day's pay. Finally got them to give me a check for $300 and after fifteen phone calls it finally arrived made out to the wrong person. I did also get a $200 venmo from the third third party shipper. The aggravation was not worth it. They also lost two boxes somewhere and have done nothing to help me locate them. I would never use such a dishonest and deceptive company like this again. Buyer beware!!!

Official company response

Thank you for your honest and thorough critique of the carrier and their performance on your move. As the broker, we have minimal control in the performance of the carrier one the job has been dispatched. It is disappointing that the carrier’s performance was as you have expressed below acceptable.

We are overseeing the assignment of over 1000 moves every month. There are more than 12000 carriers approved by the Department of Transportation to service these moves. We are thankful for your honest and straightforward feedback so that we may better serve future customers and their moving experiences.

The moving industry is a difficult industry to traverse and carriers can go from great to bad overnight with something as small as hiring a new crew or over stretching their means with the purchase of a new truck. This of course did not make it acceptable, after review of your experience it is clear that we can no longer trust this carrier to be a part of our brand and service our customers.

Thank you again, customer service will contact you to see what we can do to assist you with claims or any other action you wish to take against your assigned carrier.

Keep in mind Susan that we as the broker do not wish anyone to have an unsuccessful move. And as we have little control beyond assessment of the carriers based on previous experiences we will take action using your review of the experience. You will protect and prevent this from occurring ever again under the name of Safe Ship. We will also guide you through all the options available to the consumer to protect yourself and assist with bringing this carrier's actions to light.

False advertising

I wish there were negative markings to give this company. I hope and pray future families moving see this before going with Safe Ship and Moving and Storage LLC (Midwest Movers). They have both been a disappointment to me in my move. Without writing a book, let me just say----I WAS RIPPED OFF---my move cost close to triple what the original quote was for. After almost a month of trying to communicate with both companies, I got $704 returned for miscalculations----nothing for the real problem-----overcharging and poor services.

I take responsibility for not researching more companies and thinking the number one search on Google would truly be the best-----WRONG!!!!!

I'm not trying to be vindictive-----I just can't imagine another family suffering like I have. This has been physically, mentally and emotionally stressful and still it feels unresolved.

PLEASE---make sure this review gets out there for all to see.

I've read the reviews included and I guess Safe Ship and their carriers live well while we all suffer and have financial hardships due to your lack of professionalism.

Disappointed beyond words.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $12000

Official company response

We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. As your broker The preliminary estimate provided is solely intended as an estimation or an approximation. Each estimate is formulated based on the specific moving requirements, including household goods inventory, extra services, and pickup and delivery preferences, which are provided by the customer during the initial setup process.

Our Logistics Coordinator prepared the estimate based on the inventory and article list furnished by you. However, it is important to note that upon pickup, the carrier may need to reassess the estimate based on the actual space required for your belongings. As clearly stated in our contractual agreement, any additional space, packing materials, or services beyond the original estimate will incur supplementary charges.

While the estimate serves as a valuable initial guide to determine the approximate volume of your items, the actual charges are determined by the actual space utilized on the moving truck. Our aim is to ensure transparency and accuracy in billing, reflecting the actual resources used to complete your move.
A customer service agent will be reaching out shortly to assist further.

Terrible experience and price tripled from initial quote

I wouldn't suggest this company to anyone needing to move. The pickup was a day later than the 48 hours pickup window. The delivery was also later than expected and when it finally was deliverd there was a number of items broken/damaged. The list provided for the move seemed to have a number of packaging materials that were not used or used poorly resulting in damage. For example 1 large picture box, 8 medium picture boxes and an XL box, but all our pictures were thrown into one large box with very little packaging paper and most were damaged or broken. We also got a broken tv and desk.

says. There was also quite a few hardware pieces missing with furniture resulting in furniture not put back together correctly and most furniture was beat to crap. The price I was given when I set up the move was a third of what they ended up charging me for the move because the person that initially quoted me didn't put any boxes on the order even though I was adding on their service to box everything for me. When they corrected it they charged for way more boxes than they used but didn't bring enough padding materials for everything in our kitchen and left a bunch of glasses and stuff on the counter that we had to figure out how to package and ship across the country on our own.

Do not use this company

This moving company is an absolute scam. I wanted to do the research to find a good company that I would not have to worry about. I found a website of top rated movers that has customer reviews and everything on there, and this company was one of the best rated ones on there. I have since discovered that there is no way they did not pay for that spot and for customers to write good reviews. I would not recommend this moving company to anyone, not even my worst enemy. They do not tell you any of the hidden important information until after the contracts are signed. And the contracts really tell you no information because they are so vague. I originally was asked when I needed my things delivered to Iowa. They came back and said based on that date they will pick it up on ___ date to be there when wanted and needed. I then told them that I couldn’t get in until noon so they said they’ll switch the date to the next day instead, I did not think anything of it and from my understanding based on past and present conversations this meant that my things would be delivered that day. When I had not heard anything from anyone from safe ship the day of “move in” I texted, emailed, and finally called numerous times. After fighting to talk to someone and not get brushed off anymore, I was told that even though they picked the furniture up 10 days ago, the 1-10 day count down to deliver does not start until the date I told them I wanted to move in. None of this information was in the contract I signed and the sales person lied to me because they did not tell me any of this. The customer service was rude throughout the entire conversation and threatened to hang up on me numerous times. they did not disclose earlier that they use outside companies and they just “coordinate” the move. After this we were getting different answers constantly about the explanation behind what was happening and why my stuff was not on the way yet. The “manager” then says that there is actually no guarantee that anything will be delivered for 30 days and my items are currently in storage in the same state that they picked them up from. I am now stranded in a new place without any of my furniture, personal belongings, or even clothing. When I would try to ask where my things were the customer service would audibly laugh on the other end. A couple weeks later, I received a call from both the moving company and the movers saying that they were packing up my things and it would get there by the end of the week at the latest. The end of the week came and I heard nothing else so I reached out and they were adamant that they never called, that I was never told that, that I was lying. Finally after showing them my call log they tell me that yeah they did call but the truck had to make an emergency detour to Massachusetts…. From Dallas…. To Iowa. A month after they picked up my things I finally got the text that my stuff was getting delivered. The guy showed up late and without my mattress and full body mirror. All my boxes were broken and bent. Numerous things were scarped, torn, bent, broken, and shattered. He tried to deliver numerous things of someone else’s. And on top of all of this, even though on the phone I was told I would be given a discount, the driver said he was not aware of that so I still had to pay full price. When I called them about the missing items the lady on the phone was basically like someone stole them, we wouldn’t just misplace a mattress, “if someone delivered a nice mattress to your place would you really turn it down” YES SHE SAID THAT. I also found out through this that when you think you are working with an insurance person to PROTECT your things on the move, you are actually waiving all insurance rights and faults (they only have to pay you 60 cents per pound of missing items). I was told I could file a claim but that would take months and I need to go through everything else first because you can only do one claim for all broken and missing items. So I was under the impression that this mattress was long gone or at the very best it would be months before I saw it. I ended up buying a new one because I have now been paying rent in a place for a month without being able to live there. About a week later I got a text from a guy saying hey I have your mattress and I’m delivering it tomorrow. Never heard anything prior from safe ship or next stop about my mattress being located or anything (and they were also late delivering it). This company is shady as hell and doesn’t give a damn about any of their customers as long as they get their checks. Also the most unprofessional people I have ever spoken to. They told me numerous times that they were going to fire people on my behalf, like no that is not what I want and you don’t say that to a customer! DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THESE THIEVES. This company needs to be shut down IMMEDIATELY. ZERO STARS. ZERO OUT OF TEN.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2400

Official company response

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration you have experienced. We understand the importance of reliable and timely delivery, as well as the care and condition of your belongings.

This is not the level of service we strive to provide. We understand the sentimental and monetary value attached to personal belongings, and we will do everything within our power to rectify this situation. From time to time delays do occur despite every measure we take to prevent them. All pickup ETAs, delivery timeframes and delivery ETAs are only estimates; they are not guaranteed as stated in the signed and agreed upon Estimate. Many factors can contribute to schedule variations. Truck breakdowns, accidents, traffic challenges, natural disasters, changes in carrier routes, severe weather, and staffing fluctuations are just a few unusual reasons why your moving team may have been delayed for pickup. We deeply apologize for any damages or missing items you may have experienced during your move. At our company, we prioritize the safe handling and transportation of our customers’ belongings. To address the damages, we have a dedicated claims process in place to ensure that you receive appropriate compensation. We highly recommend filing a claim for any articles or pieces that have been damaged or are missing. This will allow us to thoroughly assess the situation and provide the necessary resolution. It’s important to note that the claims process permits one claim per move. Therefore, we kindly request that you hold off on filing your claim until you have carefully examined every piece of your shipment. We understand your dissatisfaction and frustration with the overall experience, and we take your feedback seriously. Rest assured, we are committed to making this right for you. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the situation further with you and work towards a satisfactory resolution. A customer service agent will be reaching out shortly to assist further.

SNAKE SHIP IS A FRAUD SCAM !!!!

CHANCES ARE THAT IF YOU ARE HERE TO POST A REVIEW, ITS PROBABLY TOO LATE

AND MORE THAN LIKELY GOT RIPPED OFF!

First, off this is NOT a moving company they are brokers - Who basically get paid for NOTHING ! Except, RIP YOU OFF !!!!

These scammers are extremely talented & good and selling you a dream. They are NOTHING but smoke and mirrors…They have a license to steal, they ask you to send the money via bank wire , Which is designed to make it difficult for you to retrieve your money back !

FRAUD SCAM COMPANY !!! They will quote you one price and even negotiate with you and make you think you are getting a great deal , again it’s all smoke and mirrors …

Once, they take your deposit - ITS OVER !

I attempted to get my “money back”

But, Snake Ship employee told me I couldn’t get a refund, boxing me in , & basically forcing me to deal with them.

That or lose my 2,100$+ deposit …I checked with my bank and they said once you wire (ACH) your money its pretty much - GONE ! Snake Ship knows this …I made the mistake of not looking further into their criminal practices before hiring them , they pay for their Google reviews to pop up on top ….

I found out and read the Horror stories

( reviews ) after I sent them the money , and I brought it to their attention… I expressed my concern , & questioned their reputation and their quality of service. I asked, why so many people that do not know each other from all parts of the country, are having and posting the same repetitive horrific, nightmare of an experience. Their answer, was to simply blame it on the customer -“Customers Lie” “ Customers, will say they have 15 boxes and they really have 30 “ blah, blah, blah …This Is nonsense I was told …I wanted so bad to believe them & I went over my items / inventory 3x !!!!! 3x !!!!!! As, to avoid what happened to others , happening to me…

I made it LOUD AND CLEAR , to SNAKE SHIP THAT I DO NOT WANT TO BE SCAMMED !!! And I was reassured that it wouldn’t happen as long as I’m honest …I was even told if I had any problems to contact them and they would clear to situation. But it happened -

The day ( Petra ) Movers arrive… Snake Ship, abandoned me… They did answer the 1st call said they were going to place a call and disappear , wouldn’t answer my calls for help.

I was in a position, where I gave notice to my landlord that I was vacating my apartment, so I only had days away to the deadline. Snake Ship, quoted my move to be 600 cubic Square Ft.

Petra movers DOUBLED IT !!! To 1,200 cubic square feet !!!! I do not know how these guys are still in business ? If, I were able to give ZERO stars I would .!!!!!!

Hostile employees -- there are way better companies to use!

Don't make my mistake. Don't book with the company before doing your research. I booked with these people because I called & got a great price. There's a reason they are so cheap. After I booked, I decided to google them. The number of 1 star reviews from Consumer Affairs to Better Business Bureau & more led me to cancel. I was having items moved from my 75 year old mother's house & did not want to put her through the stress of what countless others stated, which you should read for yourself. My experience in the cancellation process was highly stressful and hostile on the part of the company. I spoke with Connor to cancel & he held me hostage on the phone. I know it sounds dramatic, but it's the perfect word for what that experience felt like. He continuously said he'd process my cancellation, BUT not until he told me how amazing the company was and said ALL the bad reviews were fake. I'm sorry, who has that much time or creativity to leave so many falsified bad reviews??

I kept telling him I don't need to hear it, I just want to part ways. He refused to complete my cancellation & refund. After ten minutes of being told how great the company is despite me saying I genuinely don't care I'm not risking putting my mother through any of their stress, I finally asked him to transfer me to his manager. He sent me over to Michael. This "manager" actually hung up on me. Michael told me Safe Ship is the "best" moving company and when I said "clearly the reviews show otherwise", he hung up!! I genuinely do not know if my refund or cancellation was processed & honestly, I'm terrified to call again because these people are so unbelievably inconsiderate. If this was any insight into how the move would have gone, I made the right choice to cancel. You should too.
