Long-distance move from Beaverton, OR to Miami, FL

Very Bad Experience.

- Driver very rude.
- Customer Service does not answer phone or return calls.
- They simply lost 3 of my items. The back of my couch (now I have a useless couch), the legs of my office desk (now I have a useless desk) and parts of my daughter's crib.
- Can't give me an ETA of when I will be getting my belongings back.
- Do not use this company if you have other choices.
- Their answer as a broker will most likely be that they have nothing to do with it and that I have to contact the actual movers that they hired.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3500

Long-distance move from Cape Girardeau, MO to Gainesville, FL

Rip Off Company.

My fiance and I were needing to move quickly, I left finding a moving company up to him, and he thought he had found a really great company. They could move his stuff quickly, they walked him through the estimated cost. It was a little pricier than what I would have gone with, but I thought 'hey, if they are able to get everything moved down quickly, it would be worth it.' The original quote was for $2500.
When the movers came, they showed up in a semi, and could not make it up the hill that we lived on. They said that nothing was packed the way that it was 'supposed' to have been, even though we followed the directions from Purple Heart. They then were going to charge us an additional $3000 dollars!. When I found out about this, I said to get our deposit back, we would find a different company. However, according to the guy that was there to move our stuff, we were not able to get our $1000 deposit back, because we signed the paperwork for them to come move our stuff.
Long story short, we begged our family to help us offset the cost because we were now stuck in this contract. They gave us a new quote of $3500, and said they would come back another time with a different truck, but they needed our next payment now.
We handed over the money, different people came the next time, loaded everything up, they were friendly people, hard working, I don't have a single complaint about them.

HOWEVER, we were told by Purple Heart, By the first moving company HQ, and by the third group of people, that our stuff would be there between 3-5 business days.

Day 5 was yesterday, still no contact. We called Purple heart just to see where our stuff was, and they told us they were not sure of its location, but that it would be there within 21 days.

This whole process has been a nightmare. Not only did this process make me never want to use a moving company again, but it has made me never want to go through the process of moving again. I'm not saying that this company is fake, because it is obviously a real company, but it is not a reputable place of character.
There is no transparency at all with this company, and we spent all of our savings just to be ripped off. If you are considering this company, don't.

We apologize for the issues you had throughout your move, we have notes on your file from 4/17 that you spoke with our quality assurance manager, Kelly and she went over packing materials with you and wrote a note in your file that you would be doing all packing yourself. She then sent you over the revised estimate after adding 1 item and there was still $0 in packing materials.
After reviewing the paperwork, which was sent to you already, it looks like you had $180.00 in packing materials along with a total of 746 cubic feet. We are still within your delivery window as well, your first available delivery date was 4/24.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service department.

Long-distance move from Fort Smith, AR to Burlington, KY

Horrible.

All the positive reviews have to be fake. They promised me a 2 day delivery and I received my items almost a month after the promised delivery date. I had to leave behind my dresser because they were going to charge me extra for it. They were prompt to charge me the initial balance but it has been really hard to get in contact with them after that. Worst customer experience I have ever received in my life. Please do yourself a favor and find a uhaul and move yourself because that would be more efficient than this company. Even if you do it by yourself you probably will do it faster than these people. Fool me once shame on me, but they will NOT fool me again. By the way, they only delivered half of my recliner. They don't know where the other half is.

Official company response

Our contract states the carrier has up to 30 business days to deliver. We do not guarantee any pickup or delivery dates. We provide the best estimated time of arrival based off the mileage of any move and DOT regulations.
If you have damaged, missing or broken items this would be handled as a claim, we would be happy to provide with you with claims information.
We will request additional information from the carrier as to why the dresser was not taken, if this was a large item, they may have charged a bulky fee which is also in our contract. If a customer refuses to pay the additional charges, they will not move the item.

Do NOT hire!

If I could give a 0 star review, I would. This company is TERRIBLE. I hired Purple Heart Moving Company to move my things from Pennsylvania to California. I chose Purple Heart because they went by weight, NOT space, and I thought it was a better system. I was told that my bill would be $2200 because I was doing what is referred to as a "mini-move". I paid 60% of the bill up front and was expected to pay the rest when the truck arrived. They brokered out my move to a carrier called Capital One Vanlines. When the movers arrived, I was told that I owed them $1200 more than what I was originally told because I had too much stuff, however, they weighed nothing. The movers gave me a date of June 13 for my delivery and told me that it would probably be sooner than that when my things arrived. It has been over a month and I have heard nothing from the carrier. Upon calling Purple Heart, I am told they can't reach the carrier. I have called Purple Heart multiple times only to be put on hold and hung up on. When I call back, they do not answer. I have even taken to having my father call on my behalf and they give him the same run around. I did some research of my own and found out that they hired a carrier who is no longer authorized to carry loads to move my things. This is NOT acceptable. I have no idea where my things are or if they were stolen, lost, damaged, left in a dump, etc.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3500

Official company response

We apologize for the inconveniences with your move, our company is working with the proper authorities to get this matter with the carrier resolved. The majority of our moves are completed by cubic feet, not weight. Our customer's can request to go by weight but the majority of the time space is preferred as a customer can see the space they are taking up in a truck, weigh stations may be far away from pickup and delivery locations and the customer is not always able to follow a truck to the weigh station to verify the weigh in of the truck.
Purple Heart is a broker and the carrier we assigned to complete your move provided us with all of the proper documentation before we dispatched any jobs to them. They provided an active DOT and MC number along with current insurance information. We do extensive research on all carriers before we begin working with them.
Our management team is aware of your situation and will also be contacting you directly to further discuss the next steps.

Long-distance move from Sarasota, FL to Nashville, TN

Do not use this company.

This company is a total fraud. Recently had a move from Sarasota Fl. to Nashville TN. Purple Heart misrepresented itself from the beginning -for they are not a moving company they are a moving broker. Yes- they used the same ole line--we hire veterans who need employment. Believe me --they have no veterans because they would not tolerate screwing people like this company does. They out sourced to a company called Ocean Moving of whom were the bait and switch company of all time. Total insult to veterans!!
Looking for the lawyer in Florida to give them a good dose of what its like to get screwed!! My contact is: billmason1108@att.net

PS: All these good reviews have been easily tracked to only several IP addresses---so you know the severity of the screwing your getting if you use them!!

Long-distance move from Pittsburgh, PA to Memphis, TN

Worst move ever.

I have moved many, many times. I have moved internationally and I have moved from one state to another. I have used major moving companies and I have used local moving companies. But never have I had as bad experience as I had recently with Purple Heart moving group. When I called Purple Heart, they told me that they support veterans and that veterans were often involved in the moving process and I was very pleased to think that I would be supporting a company that helps veterans in the U.S. when it came time for my things to be packed up however I was greeted by two men originally from Bosnia who works for a company out of St. Louis Missouri called five star movers and they informed me that they were going to pack me on Sunday and then load There rented a Penske’s truck on Monday, Memorial day, and then meet me in my destination city two days later. This was far more rush than I had originally planned and it was very upsetting to have to organize everything at my end so quickly. Their justification was that they had another job immediately after dropping off my things and they were in a hurry. They went to Home Depot and bought boxes which they use to pack me. They charge me not by weight as I have usually been charged in the past, but by volume. So, they made sure there was plenty of open space and large boxes by not filling them all the way so that the volume of the move would be increased. They kept the weight lighter by not using much packing paper. Miraculously, they were careful to load the boxes onto the truck and nothing was damaged inside the boxes except for one glass. As for the furniture, I can’t say the same. They didn’t know how to wrap furniture properly nor did they know how to pack the truck to keep the furniture safe. As a result, two legs on a hall table were broken off. My dining room table has nicks on the corners on one end. When attempting to carry a wardrobe down the stairs of my originating house, they damage the wall and scrapes the front of the wardrobe with sheet rock. The lead mover’s attitude was “no big deal” And he even commented that the whole table was old and made of cheap wood. It happened to be about 20 years old and from Baker, a very fine American furniture manufacturer and he even commented that the whole table was old and made of cheap wood. It happened to be about 20 years old and from Baker, a very fine American furniture manufacture. A Sony flat panel TV that was working before I left is no longer working in my destination home. The error message I’m getting indicates a problem with the internal board. The movers complained when reassembling a set of oak bunkbeds and then handed me some of the screws, informing me that it was sufficiently sturdy as they have done it. All attempts that I have made to try to unscrew what they’ve done in order to properly assembled the bunkbeds have completely failed. I don’t know what they did to put those screws in, but I cannot get them to move. This is a set of bunkbeds I have taken apart and reassembled multiple times. When the movers left in a big hurry so they can get to their next job that they were in such a big rush to get to, they handed me paperwork and said “call the company and they’ll give you a form to fill out to get reimbursed for the damage.“ When I called five star moving group today, I was told that I could be paid no more than $.60 per pound per item that had been damaged. At the time of the move, I thought that the $.60 per pound was if everything was lost in the move that would be the coverage. I had no idea he referred to specific damage done to the furniture. That was because the movers paid no attention to really going over the details of the move because they were always in such a big rush. And a customer, at that point, can’t slow things down because it’s time to get on the road and get moving. The customer is essentially stuck in this case these were very unprofessional individuals handling my move. Purple Heart moving group is rated number three among best moving companies in the United States. But if they pass on their jobs to these other very unprofessional and poorly managed moving companies, their reputation cannot stand. I am severely disappointed that I chose to use them and I would never recommend them to anyone else.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $10765

Official company response

Purple Heart has sent this customer all of her paperwork from the carrier as well as offered a refund in the amount of $250.00 on June 29th, which the customer has not responded to.

We would be happy to review the carrier agreement that we have with her carrier to our dispatch department.

We do not handle claims but would be happy to provide the claims information for the carrier to the customer as well so she can be reimbursed for anything damaged, missing or broken. Our contract states all moves are included with standard cargo protection which is up to $10,000 at the reimbursement rate of $0.60 per pound, per article. Additional insurance would need to be purchased prior to pickup from a third party.

Long-distance move from Toledo, OH to San Francisco, CA

Updating original review from April 5, 2017.

Since I posted my poor review, Jessica the CEO of Purple Heart contacted me and has already refunded my original deposit and the $150 extra the driver made my daughter pay at delivery.

She has apologized to me and said that she would attempt to give me a full refund once she received my final payment from the carrier, and would follow through on our damage and loss claim. Jessica also told me that Purple Heart has discontinued their contract with their carrier Swift.

I believe that PH will follow through on their commitment to make things right and when that happens I will remove the earlier review.

Low ball quote that will be no where near what you end up paying.

They will quote you a low ball rate -- but send a truck big enough for your move. They are only the broker -- so, it will be hit and miss on who you actually get. The movers were nice and I could tell they knew the drill -- they don;t discuss the cost or how much you were quoted. We already gave a deposit so they knew we were going to lose it if we went with someone else. Do not believe the quote you get -- double it at least! Use someone that comes out and reviews all your stuff.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $8700

Official company response

Our contract states we are a broker multiple times. We dispatch a truck with enough space allocated for your move based off the cubic feet we have you estimated for.
We only work with certain carriers that are required to abide by our rules and regulations in order to continue working with us. We require proper documentation of all of our carrier's information before we begin working with them as well as doing extensive research on their company.
The drivers would be required to complete a revision onsite as well, which they would go over all the costs and any increases in the remaining balance as well.
Our billing department does the best they can to work with our customers if pickup is refused, they typically offer to send another carrier out to you after going over your inventory again or offering a portion of your deposit back if you refuse a 2nd carrier.

Do Not Use!!

This company contracts out to terrible carriers who are unprofessional, negligent and even criminal. We had numerous delivery times given with no shows, damaged and missing items, and the movers were kicking and throwing boxes. Purple Heart takes your mom and then pretends they'll guide the whole move but basically leave you hanging. They tried to make us sign an NDA in exchange for a small discount so not to write this review. AVOID!

A really good company we've used multiple times (more expensive .. but worth it) is Wheaton. Call them.

Purple Hearts Moving Group.

The hardship we suffered from Purple Hearts has been intense and extreme. The financial loss resulting from them handing us off to Fragile Movers' of Hackensack, NJ resulted in careless and cavalier treatment of our personal belongings. Damages exceeded $2600.

We experienced insult and indignity as a result of disrespectful treatment and unfulfilled commitments by both Purple Hearts Moving Group and Fragile Movers.

We experienced the receipt of misleading information from Purple Hearts Moving Group's Salesperson regarding insurance and what we would be able to expect regarding our delivery timeline. We feel Purple Hearts Moving Group took advantage of our need for a Mover and our inherent desire to trust a company that would bear such a name. Our experience has shown this trust to have been costly, misplaced and undeserving.

We experienced additional egregious and personal affront from having to absorb damages to valuable, personal belongings.

The injurious treatment persisted as Purple Hearts Moving Group washed their hands of the damages to our personal belongings, and we had to wait over 4 month to see if we would receive any compensation from Fragile Movers for our losses.

In the end, we were offered $48.00 to cover the losses of over $2600.

Although Purple Hearts Moving Group is the company that exposed us to the damages we incurred, it is likely the "small print" of our contract justifies such inaction on their part.

Along the way, there was no commitment to promises made to us regarding the placement of our belongings onto the moving truck, the departure time of the truck for the cross-country journey, and the ability to personally contact the driver of the truck so we would have some semblance of an idea of the timeframe for delivery. At times for us, the lack of communication seemed incredulous.

We lived in an unfurnished home for weeks, without any knowledge of when or if we would ever see our belongings again.

It is disgraceful and sad that “Purple Hearts Moving Group” uses such a name to represent their service.
