Long-distance move from Florida to New Jersey

Worst move in many aspects.

I've moved with other companies in the past and have never had such a bad experience. In addition to their practice of suppressing negative reviews through signed settlement contracts, you should avoid Nationwide Van Lines because KNOWINGLY send out movers that are unprepared and behave unprofessionally and who cause damages to your property. Despite the fact that Nationwide Van Lines, Inc. sent out a mover that has received multiple complaints and has since been dismissed from their company, their claims process is inexplicably slow. It took them over 30 days to even acknowledge the receipt of my claim and over three months to process the claim.
Here are some details about my move:
1. Unprofessional behavior:
On pickup, the movers strongly hinted to me 3 to 4 times to generously tip them, as this is not an easy job and that they're the ones doing all the hard work. They also told me that if I took care of them with a tip, then they would take care of me. This is not acceptable behavior. Any person in this scenario would believe that if they didn't tip them, then they would not take care of their stuff.
They completely missed both pickup and delivery windows. The pickup window was from 9 am - 1 pm. They didn't arrive until 3:30 pm. They blamed it on bad traffic. They spent an hour setting up blankets before they came up to the apartment at 4:30 to start wrapping furniture. I had to stay there until 10 pm before they were finished completely. And this is even with having packed all of the boxes before the move. The delivery window was also from 9 am - 1 pm. They did not arrive until 7 pm. Again, they blamed it on traffic and sent me photos via text of traffic, but they told me they were coming from Virginia, which is only a 4-6 hour drive. They were not finished until 11:30 pm, creating a lot of noise for my neighbors, and I received complaints from the leasing office about the noise that they caused at a late hour due to them arriving late.
The method used to wrap the furniture was not done in a professional manner. It left considerable adhesive residue from the tape on the furniture, which I had to carefully remove. Additionally, a lot of the blankets used to wrap the furniture were filthy, leaving lots of black soot for me to wipe up.
2. Unprepared:
They took apart my futon when no other previous movers had taken it apart. This would have been fine with me, but upon delivery, they forgot how to put it back together. Fortunately, I was watching them take it apart and had to give them directions. Also, in order to unwrap the blankets, they needed to cut the tape on there. They didn't even have a box boxer available and asked to use my chef's knife to cut the tape. Fortunately, I had a box cutter available that I provided (Ironically, the box cutter was left over from a previous moving company's move - they were prepared!).
3. Damages:
All of the boxes upon delivery were dented or smashed in some way or the other, which only happens if items were improperly secured or if the movers stacked too many boxes on top of each box. My bike was bent from too much weight being placed on top of it.
There was a large dent/chip into one of my solid wood bookcases on the front that was transported. I noticed upon moving that the movers only wrapped the sides of the bookcases with blankets, leaving sizable gaps for the shelves to be exposed. This would not have happened if they wrapped the bookcases completely. The company considered this damage "cosmetic" and would not even offer the full measly $0.60 per pound.
BOTTOM LINE: If you want any semblance of a professional move, undamaged property, and a responsive company, do not use Nationwide Van Lines. I'll give up my settlement money so other people won't have to go through this awful moving experience.

Moving Job.

Professionalism through and through. The were there on time. Delivered the furniture on time. Used great care both in putting the furniture in the truck and taking it out. The movers had a great attitude and asked me various times if there was anything else I needed. They went above and beyond the call of duty by installing the television in the armoire which was sitting on the floor. They had to remove all the wiring and reinsert it. It took a little bit of time since it wasn't their expertise but they persisted until it was done and done correctly. This saved me lots of time and trouble and I was very thankful for that.

Long-distance move from Florida to Georgia

No need to look any further.

I chose Nationwide after reviewing 5 companies in June 2014. They were Great!! Alana is the best Customer Service Rep I have ever worked with. The gentleman that moved my furniture, well they felt like family. I had to send more furniture to Ga., in Oct 2015 and of course used Nationwide, no need to look any further. We are relocating in South Fla., to a new home and Nationwide will be moving us again next week. I even use Nationwide when shipping out my automobile. If you are looking for a reliable company to move your home, look no further!

Long-distance move from Georgia to Pennsylvania

Nationwide Van Lines for Georgia to Pennsylvania.

The team at Nationwide Van Lines did a great job. The sales representative (Racheal Skolnik) was particularly excellent, since she always replied to emails within only a matter of hours (oftentimes minutes) and was very efficient in setting up the binding estimate. She was also very helpful in modifying the estimate after my final count of items being shipped changed, even when it was very close to the scheduled pick-up day. The movers themselves (Johnny and Jonathan) were also excellent - they arrived exactly on time for pick-up (my scheduled window was from 9am-12pm and they arrived exactly at 9 am), and they moved all of my furniture and boxes quickly and without damage. On delivery, they arrived within an hour of the beginning of their scheduled window, and they set everything up in my new apartment without any of my items going missing or getting damaged. Because I did not pay for expedited services my items had a longer delivery day window, and during this time I felt that communication could have been better regarding where my belongings were. At times I would call and there simply seemed to be no information available on where my items were - was the truck still in GA (where I moved from), somewhere in PA (where I was moving to), or in North Carolina? In a sense the information was not vital since I couldn't use it to predict my delivery date anyway, but the fact that no one I talked to in the office could give me even this basic information was a little concerning. It was surprising to me that there was not a better way for customers to even roughly track where their shipments were.  That being said, I never had fears about my belongings being lost or unaccounted for, since the entire team had done such an excellent job up to that point and their professionalism had impressed me. The staff were always very patient, and you were always able to call in with questions. Rick and Manny were excellent in returning phone calls and putting you through to the dispatch office as well.  I would highly recommend Nationwide Van Lines. They did a great job, and I thank them for their help.

Long-distance move from South Carolina to Georgia

Great move!

Chris was a very friendly and informative salesperson.  He was patient and able to answer all of my questions and concerns.  The pickup and delivery were carried out by Darren and his crew, who were all very friendly and professional.  Pickup went well and in a timely manner.  Delivery was a little delayed due to traffic in the area but was still able to be completed on the day following pickup.  Overall, the service was great and I would use nationwide van lines again for my move.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to South Carolina

Angela Mickler.

I've never had to deal with a moving company before & as a women, something keep telling me this was the one & of course my feelings were right. Everybody at company was wonderful, especially due to hurricane Matthew came through at the time of move, I had to change dates 3 times. There was never a problem & anyone I spoke to said no worries we understand. This is a company that I would recommend to anyone making a move, everyone is so professional, especially my movers. Alberto & Paul were the BOMB!! So professional, sweet, upbeat personality, & Helped any way possible to make this so pleasant. My Mom was totally amazed with Alberto & Paul, she said she could not believe how well & fast they work together & packaging, wrapping everything so well. Was moving my Mom from Lake Gaston, NC to Myrtle Beach SC. When we arrived at drop off location a couple of her neighbors came over & said when they moved into there the company they hired could not back the truck down in the cul-de-sac & had to shuttle all her stuff, my guys had no problem what so ever. They were amazed at them & I told them I guess you hired the wrong company, they laughed & said they wish they had went with Nationwide Van Lines. The price was great, not to mention again my guys were the BOMB!! Could not ask for any better. I hope their boss gives them a nice vacation & a nice bonus, because that's what makes a company earn the respect it deserves. Also at time of pickup their boss called me to check & see how things were going & also called back later after move to make sure things were right. I think this was very nice, how many people would do this!! Also dispatch called me to see how things were going, I said GREAT. No problems what so ever, if anyone is thinking of a big move I would definitely recommend giving this company a call first. Hope this will help someone else with a move they are planning. This was a very large move & price very reasonable. I want to thank everyone one that helped me with this, especially Alberto & Paul & of course the rest of you with the company. Thanks so much again for everything!! My Mom is still amazed !! If by any chance I had to do this again I will definitely call them again!! THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF YOU!! You are the BEST!! Movers had to break down almost everything & wrap & also set up & unwrap. Not to mention all the walking they had to do from pickup location, due to such small road with deep ditches on both sides. This was up & down driveway on hill. My Husband has drove semi trucks for a living before & also was director of training school, semi trucks & heavy equipment for 25 years. He said there was no way the guys would be able to make that turn, also said he could not even do it. Said there was no way, they do need some room, people need to take things like this into consideration. My husband also said he would not even attempt, & said I feel sorry for driver. Which this was very true!! Again very pleased with service I received from all involved in this move, everything went according to plan & THEY ARE THE BEST!!

Long-distance move from Florida to Connecticut

Florida to CT.

These guys are professionals. Do the responsible thing by making your own inventory list, and be sure to supervise the loading and unloading. They'll do the rest. I only gave them 2 weeks notice, and they were able to meet the deadline. Like most moving companies and shippers, it's based on cubic feet, so try to condense your load. It's also best to get a 'direct flight'. You don't want someone who has to change trucks mid-route. Nationwide was able to provide direct service.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to Florida

BEWARE: intentionally misleading for $$.

I’ve been lucky enough to complete four cross country
moves in my days. Life has taken me to some pretty amazing places … and as a result, I’ve worked with my fair share of moving companies both large and small. Natiowide Van Lines, is – hands down – the WORST one I have ever worked with. EVER. If I could give zero stars, I would. Things started out great. I spoke with Suzanna who gave me a too-good-to-be-true quote, professed their
honorable business values, and professed that they knew my new move-in area well enough to wrangle Miami’s complicated move-in/move-out regulations with ease. I was so pleased that I encouraged my parent, who would be doing a similar cross country move, to get in on the action and set up their own move through Nationwide. However, in the days leading up to the move, I received
several phone calls that raised the bright red flag of doubt:

1. The company would be tacking on an additional $500 (in
addition to the original $300 I already agreed to in my quote) to move the piano. Which I agreed to – it is a $7000 instrument after all. Especially because this extra fee was meant to cover the cost of special movers who knew how to pack, disassemble, and reassemble a piano properly. 2. Despite having
told them I could not, under any circumstances move into my new apartment until the first of the month, they said they would be delivering on the 25th… of the previous month. Five days early. Normally, this would be great, but considering I had clearly expressed that my lease would not begin until the 1st, it felt like a ploy to very conveniently rake in another $900 (the fee to “unload and
reload” your items should you not be able to receive your items in accordance with their delivery schedule. They also were conveniently out of any later pick up dates to accommodate a later arrival. And 3. The movers would be arrivng a full day later than I had originally anticipated to pack my furniture and pick up my boxes. Interesting. I took these revelations in stride and was fortunate enough to be able to pro-rate my lease to facilitate the early delivery (trust me, I’d rather pay my landlord another few hundred dollars than shell out even
more money to Nationwide’s mysterious “add on’s” fund).

Then move out day arrived. And things went WAY downhill.
Fast. The foremen tried to tack on another $150 here for a long haul (despite
the fact that they only had one hallway to walk down). And another $200 there
because they didn’t know my end tables had stone tops (a nuance which they
conveniently did not include as an option on the initial estimate sheet or in
discussions with the quote “expert”). And you shouldn’t be surprised to learn
that there was no “special piano expert” in toe. The foreman was extremely rude
to my father, pugnacious with me, and generally difficult to deal with. Phrases
like “this isn’t my job” and “that’s between you and the moving expert” were on
repeat. Since you had to pay half the move in cash up front, I was literally
held hostage.

Fast forward to delivery day. In a twist of cruel fate,
my building’s service elevator was out of service for a grueling seven hours.
To help ease the situation, my building outfitted the foremen with a trolley
cart and said they could unload the big items (couch, piano, etc.) in the
loading garage, and then wheel the small items (boxes, small chairs, desk,
etc.) up through the main lobby. Instead, the head foreman took this
opportunity to smoke cigarettes in my lawn, nap, and complain about the
situation. I offered to help him set up in a way that would work to get it done
faster and had the security guard coordinate with him ways to make the
situation better. He simply would not do it. He wouldn’t even open the doors of
the truck unless the elevator was working and insisted that the remainder of
the move be paid in FULL (in CASH) before he even touched a box. Another red
flag so there would be no recourse if (and in this case WHEN) damage occurred.

By the time the elevator was working, the foreman was in
another bout of rage. Feeling – yet again – held hostage by these movers, I
didn’t want to press the issue about having unpacked earlier or be overly
aggressive since they had total control over my belongings. And yet, I couldn’t
help but think his sour mood was much of his own making and reluctance to just
get the job done in tandem with my building. The movers left my apartment an
utter disaster. My side chairs were thrown on top of my couch. There was
padding everywhere (which they refused to take out). They had badly chipped my
desk (which they packed) and broken the leg off my wet bar (which they also
packed). But most disappointingly, they had broken the piano’s pedals and the
last three keys on the keyboard were not working. Before I could even give the
foremen a tip they slammed the door and stormed out. I sat on the floor and
sighed.

When the moving company reached out for a review, I
frankly told them about the situation and the customer serviced representative
began with a sympathetic promise to get the issue resolved. After two hours of
phone calls, he agreed to send $300 to cover the cost of the piano fix (quoted
at $150) and any additional damage the tuner found while fixing the keys. It
also felt a bit like hush money since I had threated to tell the world about
this experience and encourage my family not to use them for their own move. Two
weeks went by … and then three … and I had received zero updates about the
compensation. When I reached out, they had yet another convoluted, circumvent,
rambling set of excuses to explain why they didn’t intend to send me any
damages after all. I’m not at all surprised considering every interaction with
Nationwide has been fraught with double standards and financial shadiness. Par
for the course at this point. The measly $300 wouldn’t even cover the $800 I
paid to have the piano “professionally moved” to begin with and certainly
didn’t address the damage done on my bar or desk. Their consolation? “You can
file a penny on the dollar claim for your damage” (the coverage being so
pitiful it’s almost laughable – yet ANOTHER detail the moving “expert”
conveniently left out when quoting and binding my original estimate). All in all: A BORDERLINE FRAUD and horrendous customer
service. Beware. Beware. Beware.

TERRIBLE

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY

This company came highly recommended for a long distance move, but I cannot understand how. It has been an absolute nightmare dealing with them, Rick in dispatch in particular. The movers were late picking up and I still haven't received my property because the movers are late delivering. This company will waste your time and your money.

Long-distance move from Connecticut to Georgia

From ct to ga.

I recently relocated for work. During the planning process, I quickly found myself overwhelmed with the number of moving companies and began to rely on reviews, which is why I decided to write one myself.

If it wasn't for a very long delivery timeframe, then I would be giving Nationwide an A . The price was middle of the road. Customer service was really helpful during the quoting process and the movers were on time for pickup. We chose for the full packing service and everything was packed with care.

The movers were extremely polite at both pickup and drop off, which was a relief because we heard horror stories about rude, careless movers.

The only complaint I have is the extremelllyyyy long delivery. It was a total of 25 calendar days from pickup to drop off and they were a day late on the contractual delivery date, which was a whopping $25.00/day fee on their part.

No one was able to tell me the actual timeframe for when our things would be delievered, until our stuff was actually loaded back onto the truck from the storage facility it was being stored in, which wasn't until the 20th day. That was by far the most frustrating part.

Once we finally got our belongings, we were very happy that the only casualty along the way was a broken lamp shade. Being that we have glass table tops and a lot of fragile items, we were really impressed, espeially because there are so many stories out there about movers breaking a ton of items in the moving process.

Long story short- we were thrilled with this company except for the long delivery, so if you are ok with sleeping on an air mattress for a while, then you should strongly consider this company.

My experience with Nationwide Van Lines was extraordinary.  The quality of service for the price was beyond fair and I was extremely happy I made this choice.  From the salesman, Phil to the dispatchers (Gideon, Manny) to the actual movers (Jose and crew), everyone was very helpful and professional.  They assuaged my concerns from beginning to end.  The movers worked diligently through horrible weather, had positive attitudes and it almost felt like one big happy family (well not the crazy type of family!!) - just easy to work with!!  I would DEFINITELY recommend them to anyone in the future..but that's only if you want to work with accommodating professional workers :)!
