Long-distance move from Ontario to Alberta

Reliable and affordable.

Okay I wanted to say that many companies have given me their service and some have even damaged my furniture. Now that that's happened I usually look into every company I pay to move for me. I am not saying you have to offer perfect service, but at least try not to damage my stuff. This company did that for me it made sure that my goods weren't damaged and didn't make me go through a years worth of paper work. What can I say, they delivered what need to be delivered. Simple and straight to the point. Loved it!

Great Shipping.

Metropolitan Movers did an excellent job when I was relocating across the city. The staff and movers were both very polite and helpful when it came to the questions I had regarding the shipping costs and the time the move would take, making the whole process a lot easier and easing my stress and worries about. Everything was delivered in perfect condition which was due to the exceptional job that the team did in order to prevent my items and goods from being even slightly damaged. Should I ever need to move again within the area this team would be my go-to choice.

Avoid at all costs!!

Contracts out your move to sketcky unprofessional people (not movers) arrived (6 hours after scheduled) with no equipment, no blankets, no experience - damaged my home within the first 15 mins - and we fired them. You will regret hiring this company - your move will be 1000X more stressful!! Hire local - Pay more - these people are not legitamate, do not waste yout time with them. They are all to helpful with scheduling, but horrid with everything afterwards. No responses to attempts to get assistance with repairs from damage they caused.

Metropolitan Movers has 43 better business bureau complaints.

As most of the complaints on this site suggest, this company hires subcontractors. When something gets broken Metropolitan Movers puts the onus on the subcontractor to resolve the claim. This was definitely not communicated with me when booking. I was told that I had full coverage for any damaged items. To make a long story short, Warren the customer service manager simply ignores phone calls and tells you to call Edward the crew manager who also doesn't bother to respond. I will be the 45th person to file a complaint with the bbb. BUYER BEWARE.

Very frustrating customer service.

I was also uninformed like many of the reviewers were that this move would be contracted out to outside movers. The mover themselves were okay they were rather friendly and showed up on time. However after they had loaded my stuff it took them over four hours to drive from Regina to Saskatoon when that Drive should take at the very most three. After the move I also noticed that my dark bedroom furniture had some scratches and dings on it. But that wasn't the worst of it the worst was when I was asking for a receipt or an invoice when I was paying. The mover seemed to have no idea what I was talking about when I said I needed an invoice because my work is reimbursing me for this move. Finally he produced a handwritten receipt that said the amount that I had paid and told me that they would send me via email an official invoice at the end of the day when he had imputed all the information to the billing department. Two days later I still hadn't received anything so I called them and after waiting on hold for what felt like forever I was talking to a lady who said she would transfer me to the billing department however she hung up on me, surprisingly enough someone called me back a few minutes later and he was extremely rude when I said what I wanted. He told me they would send out the invoice right away. When I asked how long he said right now and I that I  can even wait on the line if I wanted. I couldn't because I had other things to do so I said if I didn't see it in a bit I would call again. Surprise surprise an hour later still no invoice. When I called back a lady informed me it would be at least 2-3 days till I got it. When I said that's ridiculous because someone else had told me they would send it today, and wanted to speak to a manager she said they would call me back. And again no surprise when I didn't receive a call back that day. After over a week of me needing to call multiple times everyday(they tended to say oh let me check then put me on hold and hang up) where I was told various things including: the billing department just closed, I'll submit an invoice request to the billing department, it usually takes 2-3 days to get an invoice, it can take 10-15 days to get an invoice. Finally I was given the number of the guys who actually moved me and told to try calling them. So I did, he seemed confused because apparently I had told him that the hand written receipt he gave me was enough. After explaining that it wasn't because if doesn't even have the companies name on it. He said he had lost their copy of it which was why he hadn't submitted it to the billing department. He told me they would make a new one and submit it right away. Later that day the cherry on top of this whole terrible experience happened. I got a call from them wanting to do a customer satisfaction survey. When I was in the middle of explaining how unhappy I was and that I wouldn't recommend this service to my friends I was put on hold mid sentence. And than they disconnected me.
After 10 days and over 20 calls I finally received my invoice and I would never recommend this company because of their terrible customer service, and I don't at all know how it is they received a consumers choice award. .

Long-distance move from Alberta to Saskatchewan

Worst experience ever.

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Supposed to pick up at 9am.. showed up at 8:30pm without explanation or communication in between. They were supposed to pack my items and bring materials. They only provided 10 boxes and some tape. I had to provide the rest of the materials and pack my things. It ended up taking two days to pick up my things and then they were a week late delivering. I ended up with items that weren't even mine. I feel like everything they told me was a falsehood. They said they guaranteed my pick up and drop off time. That's the reason I chose them. They said my items were insured for $50K. I found out later that they ended up putting in words in my contract that sounded like what we'd agreed to on the phone but were nothing at all what we talked about. The insurance was really only 50 cents a pound. Technically, I'm still waiting for them to return my calls and tell me how their "investigation" into my complaint is going. It's been two months and the only thing I heard was the story they told the Better Business Bureau when I complained to them.. something about a broken truck on the day of the pickup.. a fact I never heard once in the 100 un-returned calls I made to them. I feel like these people are con artists and will do anything they want to make money. I was charged $4600 for a tiny one bedroom to go from Calgary to Saskatoon because I have no way of verifying how much my things weighed. Worst. Experience. Ever.

Liars.

These people contracted to a third party when I specifically asked if they did which the rep responded that they do not. HIRE A LOCAL MOVER AND YOU WILL BE BETTER OFF ESPECIALLY WITH THE UNPROFESSIONAL, INEFFECTIVE, AND INEFFICIENT COMMUNICATION!!They charged me for THREE men to move ONE PC desktop tower sized item which weighs approx. 200 lbs. I am unimpressed and they ripped me off. This is on top of them messing up my moving date so I had to wait for which they claimed to have never offered the proposed date which I originally agreed to. They blamed me. DO NOT USE METROPOLITAN MOVERS!!

Metropolitan Movers, check on them.

I blieved that they have a consumer AWARD Choice.   Unfortunatly, after my move went horrible, nothing but delays and damages.  I went to check who gave them the award.  I found that this claim is bogus and they are nothing than bunch of immigrant people they know nothing about honesty, expertise and customer service.  they get their workers from the shelters.  Always check on your movers before hiring anybody, check on their insurance, call the insurance company and verify the coverages, if they have 647 number instead of 416 and they are claiming over 10 years in business, this is a lie.  Are they providing you real references or just friends.  The most important, always ask for a flat rate fee instead of paying by the hour and read what you sign for.  Do not agree if the contract says "the mover will keep your items until full payment received.".

Way too slow and costly.

Their estimated time was 6 to 8 hours so I was confident that I could afford these movers. Unfortunately it took them 12 long hours. I had clearly labeled each box and a lot were placed in the wrong place. Heavy boxed that I took the time to label were placed on the main floor when I needed them to be upstairs. It was a lot of work for me to carry the heavy boxes around. I know that it was not on purpose but they broke an expensive lamp and lost my dining room table screws. When I called to ask if someone might remember where they put the screws they did not bother to call me back..even after a few calls. I had a very hard time finding screws that fit perfectly. They were way too slow and took a lot of smoke breaks. Nice boys but just way too slow. Who can afford this extra expense when moving?

PS I MADE AN ERROR ON PROMPTNESS. NOT 3 STARS BUT 0.

The worst moving company.

They are absolutely the worst moving company I have ever dealt with - DO NOT USE THEM. They will turn your already stressful move into a chaotic nightmare. They took 11 hours to move a 1500 sq foot Town home into a two bedroom house located only 20 minutes apart. They wouldn't take our things out of truck until we paid the $1100.00, which was not worth it. We did all the work. They charge by the hour. They were incredibly slow, we had ourselves, three men, and one women put all the boxes on the driveway before they came. All they had to do was carry out the heavy stuff, which was only a two bedroom with office. No appliances, except a freezer in basement. The patio furniture was even out front from the back yard to expedite the process. I have moved six times in my life and I never experience anything like this before. Im so upset!!

Awful experience.

While the 2 movers were friendly and efficient, I discovered damages to my furniture upon unpacking. I also sliced my finger open on a wrapped glass picture frame that was broken inside a box. I submitted pictures of the damage to the items in question. I was advised by a Customer Service Manager that since I had signed the completion form when the movers left they are not responsible for any of the damage. I explained I didn't find the damages until I started unpacking. The Manager told me I should have unpacked my entire belongings prior to the movers leaving then. Seriously!?!? That is a completely unreasonable expectation. Their website states "Best Customer Service in the Business!" Not at all..furthest from the truth!

I would not recommend this company based on their deplorable customer service. Once they get their money they don't demonstrate professional courteousy or responsibility.

I don't think so!

Used them 2 years ago - excellent, put plastic down, nothing damaged.

Used them again, the movers walked with their shoes on my off white carpet, took chunks out the walls, scratched the front door and concrete with the treadmill, both damaged. No plastic were put down. The door frame is also scratched and damaged.

The movers even mentioned that me and my husbans could move some of the boxes later ourselves (to save time). Sorry buddy, that's why we hired a company..

The last thing you want to do when moving out of a rental, is spending more time and money by fixing walls and painting doors.
Nothing I can do about my damaged treadmill or the door frame..

Also, when it came time to pay, the mover insisted that I pay the $45 that was WAIVED at the time of the quote for the treadmill. I paid not knowing about the damage yet - and even gave the movers a tip. Needless to say, we are not impressed.

A moving disaster.

Movers showed up 6 hours after agreed time with a Uhaul!! very tired resulting in extra hours, causing me to do half of the move by myself, charged me extra for items that had included in the order!! Causing me to be penalized for late return of the keys!! Overall a disaster..
They are not a real moving company, they rent uhaul and unprofessional people to do the move.
Charge you extra and leave you stranded with unassembled furniture!!

Worst moving company - better move your things alone!
The customer service is terrible, they overcharge and the best part is they never issued a receipt for me to check what I was charged for. Calling them is a nightmare..twenty days after and still I haven't manage to get a receipt for their service, although I already paid them..

Property was stolen, no customer support.

If you are using Metropolitan Movers BEWARE! I used their Regina division this past August and have never had worse service. On the day of my family's move it was easy to see Metropolitan Movers simply uses "freelance movers" as one guy was wearing another moving company's work shirt and their moving van had no indication of their company name even though their website infers different. As soon as they walked in they began describing all the items I and my pregnant wife would need to do ourselves for a litany of bad reasons. (We stuffed our clothing in garbage bags and somehow that would mess up packing their truck for starters)
Later that night after everything was moved and we were unpacking we noticed items were missing. I contacted their "employee" I had been dealing with in Regina and was never contacted back. Two weeks later I called their main office and was told I needed to email my complaint to their complaint department. I never heard back for a month. I called again and was told I had sent my email to the wrong address which I knew was a lie as the email they gave me was also the same one that contacted me with a confirmation of my move. I was given a SECOND email address even though I kept asking to just speak with someone in their office I gave in and emailed again, but guess what!? After not hearing any response I called in again and was told that yet again I was given the wrong email address. This time I was allowed to speak to a representative. So, after being left on hold for 15 minutes I finally was able to speak to someone about my concerns. I once again explained my issues and expressed my concern over the lack of communication. I was then told that my complaint over stolen items WAS documented and was in their system waiting to be sent to management. So they had known about my complaint for over a month and had yet to contact me. Next I was told that I would just have to wait until management could get back to me and was unable to be given any kind of time frame for when that would be.
After not hearing anything for two weeks I called in again. I was told management had performed an investigation, which somehow they were able to perform without ever contacting myself or my wife and that I would need to wait for the manager to be in the office to hear the result. So the next day I was finally able to reach a manager who informed me that he had never heard of my issue and no investigation had been conducted. He had no reason for why I would have been told this the day earlier. He then tried pushing me off by sending yet again another email, but I was persistent that I would not. He showed zero concern when I informed him that property had been stolen and immediatley began calling me a liar and telling me I had no proof. He informed me that because I had signed a work order when the move was complete that they were not to be held reliable for any missing property. I asked how anyone would know if items were missing unless I unpacked all my items infront of the movers. He told me I should have made a note on the paperwork and that I had no proof.
So after receiving zero help from their head office I went online and was able to track my wifes ipad online to a house in the core of Regina. With assistance from the police I was able to retreive the ipad. I asked the man where he got the ipad. He told me a guy who matched the description of one the movers at my house sold it to him for $40 at the nearby Macdonalds. Moral of the story: if you value your belongings DO NOT USE Metropolitan Movers. Research shows that they have horrible customer service and I have found that I am not alone in the poor service they provide and the absolute lack of customer appreciation is embarrassing. I feel sorry for anyone connected to this company and feel obligated to let the public know.

Great job.

I am very satisfied with this Metropolitan mover. Because me and my family just move to our new apartment. And they really impressed me beyond my expectation. They move all my belongings and my family stuff with respect and carefully and they did not allow any single thing to get damage. The company is well organizes, and they did their work perfectly with no complain. Highly recommended.

Outstanding Experience.

They are the best!

My experience with Metropolitan Movers was outstanding. The guys arrived in time and they were so friendly, courteous, professional, skilled, organized, and hard-working. They were also very careful with my furniture. And they made sure nothing was damaged. Based on my experience with these guys, I would recommend them for friends, family, and everyone.

Showed up with wrong size truck and left. Horrible Movers.

This company appears to use freelance movers that rent Discount trucks and appear for the move.
I requested a 20 - 24 foot truck and the two guys showed up 3 (three) hours LATE, with a 15 foot truck, looked at my items and claimed it would take too long for them to move and that my items were not organized.

This was end of the month when I had people required to move into where I was moving out of almost immediately.

Their foreman in the office then calls following day, no apology whatsoever and says "Do I want to re-schedule or cancel the move".

Horrible, Terrible, Nasty, Rude Company!! And that is no exaggeration..

Digusted.

I hired these guys back in July to move 12 items that were dissembled and wrapped. They took 2 hrs to load the truck. When I asked why they were taking so long? They said they did not want to damage anything. The paint was chipped off the front door and on the wall by the stairs. There was a brand new chair damaged and left in the garage. They left a huge mess. They took two hrs to drive to another city that was an hr away. Then they took an extra hr to reorganize the storage to make everything fit. This was not true, I left enough room and I was told they knew how to stack. The manager dragged out returning/answering my calls. He said he wld get these guys to fix the damage and return my chair never happened. One of the movers even called me and said where the [EDIT] are you? I am passed out in a subway very classy. When I told the manager he just laughed very professionally. This company double charged me in Sept and wld not have paid me if my cc provider didn't step in. The manager said he wld refund me the original cost. This was in Sept, it is now Nov. This manager is full of excuses, he is in a hurricane in Florida, up in Sudbury or not in his office. With today's technology, he can't call someone to follow up with this? His talk is cheap, he is not a man of his word and this is who is running this company? I thought I was hiring professionals. I cold have hired guys off Kijiji and got same level if not better service for less money.

Terrible Service.

Arguably the worst customer experience of my life.

The movers were supposed to arrive at about 9:30am but called to delay on three separate occasions. My wife and I both called head office and they were not helpful at all. When I flat asked how they planned to rectify this situation, I was met with awkward silence or attitude. Classy!

After 2 and a half hours, a new truck was eventually resigned to us. Despite not arriving until 1pm (over 3 hours late), the new movers we had were professional and very personable. Zii and Matt from Bayfield Moving earn my recommendation, but Metropolitan Movers as an actual company is utterly disorganized, complacent and rude.

PS: Metropolitan Movers felt a discount was unreasonable. Really? You were only 3 hours late! Let's hope they somehow make this right.

Crooks!! Don't give them your Credit Card #.

Our kids booked them waiting for a move date to firm up. They took their credit card # as "security"..I would have no way! before 24 hours, our kids determined it was going to be a different date and called to cancel. They charged them $197 and have indicated they will be charging them more! They did not adequately inform our kids of their cancellation policy and their invoice and website is very vaguely worded. What a scam outfit and the other reviews show it. We have raised a credit card dispute with MasterCard and will fight them on their despicable rip-off.

Contract, service.

I contracted metropolitan movers for a move in 5 weeks. I asked for two movers, a large truck enough for a single move within a city, a specific time for start and clear indication of any additional costs. I indicated that I wanted an agreement on the written details before finalization. The same day I got an invoice for one mover and vague response to other questions. When I questioned the one mover they corrected to two movers and were unresponsive to my other questions. I cancelled the order the same day I started 5 weeks before my move. They charged me $119 plus tax for the cancelation. They clearly were not interested in customer service or their reputation.

Missing Wedding Band.

I thought the movers were very quick and helpful. However, things were not as they seemed. I had told them to leave a dresser and its contents behind, but when I was not in the room, the dresser was packed. I was concerned because my wedding band (which was in a 'Peoples'ring box) was on top of the dresser. I was assured that everything was put in the dresser drawers. But, when I went to unpack the next day, my ring was nowhere to be found. I called the manager in charge of my move and simply asked where the movers had put the ring (I assumed they might have put it elsewhere or may have fallen out in the truck). The manager never called me back, it was always me calling him. I called the main company and was essentially told it was my fault. In the final phone call with the manager, he said I have no proof of anything and to go ahead and report it to the police and hung up. So rude and unprofessional. I just want to know what they did with my ring and want it returned.

Very bad.

Me and my daughter lived a nightmare today because of your company.

I wanted to local move in Niagara falls, from my one bedroom apartment to townhouse. My apartment is at 3rd floor. I had an agreement, and talked with Raymond. I told him that I want two worker, my house is at 3rd floor, we set up everything.

Before moving day, one man called me and said that they have a very busy day, they have to be fast, he will send me 3 mover. I said I have limited budget, I can't afford. But after he said they are fast and no need for minimum 3 hour service for 3 workers. And I thought my house is one bedroom apartment, they can work fast and finish in 2 hours. He persuaded me that 3 workers are more faster and economical for me.

Moving day they came at 9. 30am. But They didn't start on time. They were parking the truck for fifteen minutes. After starting, they were very slow. Me, my daughter and my friend carried more than them. They were delaying the work obviously.
After loading everything finally, before moving to my new address one of the worker came and wanted me to make the payment. I didn't understand, Because we didn't go to my new address and they didn't uploaded the stuff. I actually got suspicious at that time. He wanted me to pay for the stairs fee, which I haven't heard before. They worked very slow to raise the hourly rate.

After I called their boss who is name is Ajmal, he threatened me to taking my furniture and everything to Toronto. My daughter started to cry, she wanted her toys. I said them I have limited budget, they are adding, adding and finally they find more than one thousand dolar for just one bedroom furniture.

Their behaviour was very rude and mean. They were not thinking their work, just how can they earn much money from me.

I paid today to this company 1060$ (after their discount) just for one bed, one couch and two dresser. But as a newcomer, today I learned my lesson that don't trust moving companies. Today they took my money by threatening and which they really didn't deserve.
