City Moving

My husband and I were making a big move from Hawaii to Maine and I'd say the move was alright. Our items were wrapped up nicely by the movers and they were fast and professional, and our communication with Ryan was stellar (he even handled the port reservation for the move of my car, which he did not have to do and only did once the person from the car department seriously dropped the ball by not scheduling our reservation when he said he would, part of the reason for the 3-stars). The other issue came with the delivery; we were provided the delivery window and even left our family in another state early to be available for the whole window, since it was communicated by Jen that if we were not available for the whole window, we would have to deny the delivery and pay an additional $11.00 per day for storage for minimally a half of a month (um.. no thanks!). Come the last day of the delivery window, we had not heard anything from Jen; no delay notice or 24-hour notice that they were on schedule. I had to reach out to the company to find out the movers were delayed by a few days!! It was communicated that Jen was not in office (it was a Sunday), but she should have set up a contingency plan for an associate to communicate any delays since she knew the window of our move. The movers ended up being 3 days late, but once we were 24-hours out, they were very communicative and everything went smoothly with them. The last star-killer was as a result of a few damaged items, one of which was a table that has a 200 lb load capacity that was split clean through. How the movers managed to break that has to really be chalked up to wanton carelessness when it came to packing the truck. All in all, I would cautiously recommend this company, and mention that Ryan seriously needs a raise, he was awesome!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $11860

Mike was awesome to coordinate with and the price was about on par with other companies. The service itself was quicker than expected, which was a plus.

Unfortunately, there were some hiccups. On pickup, the crew forgot their tablet to document the job. They ended up having to come back the following day for signatures, which was a cost of time on my family's end. That also delayed receiving a copy of all the forms for me. He also wasn't really bothering to properly wrap individual items, but was luckily corrected by his coworker before I brought it up. During delivery, only one person was present to handle the move. Definitely not ideal for carrying objects up stairs. I ended up having to help move things, despite being on disability for my back. My desk arrived damaged and missing hardware (though the delivery driver did replace it himself, but not the proper dimensions). Also, now that I had time to unpack everything, I noticed I have items missing. I'm not sure how that happened, as they're just small kitchen items as far as I can tell. Luckily, they're replaceable, unlike the shelf to my desk. Upon packing, the movers removed it to move the desk and almost left it behind. I gave it to them as they were loading the last things, but I assume they never packed it. Now I have a damaged wooden desk, with missing hardware replaced with the wrong kind, and no shelf for it.

I reached out and was given the claim forms, but I'm not sure I can expect much. I moved multiple times through the military, but never had this issues with those companies.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $2636

This company does well before and while you are in the process- but once your items arrive- missing and broken- they don’t respond. My bedroom furniture came with broken feet. They found the pieces, sent a picture of them in a box at the warehouse (through the driver), also an family antique furniture piece, but no one after months can tell me how or when I’ll get them back. They won’t call you back when you ask but defer to email with questions about which box is missing- even though my items are in their possession. Appreciate the driver’s assistance or I wouldn’t have known anything. Get ready to lawyer up with this company.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $8990

Packers were excellent - Isaac and Rene; I knew I didn’t have a full container, so knew shipping would be delayed - James called frequently with update, which was much appreciated. Mike, Ryan, and Miguel all friendly, understanding and professional.

Delivery was discouraging - had damage to my bed, trash can totally demolished, and 2 containers damaged beyond repair or use.

Delivery persons did not introduce themselves.

Of course, there is no way to know when damage occurred, so cannot justify putting in a claim.

Overall, I will give 4 stars out of 5. Thank you.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $5440

My wife and I went through an extremely extensive and thorough review of possible movers that could take our furnishings from Honolulu to Indiana. Generally, we hoped to find a firm that would complete the packing (excluding boxes), moving, and unpacking process from place of origin to new location. City Movers proved to be the ideal choice for our needs. They were courteous, friendly, honest, cost efficient, and trustworthy. Though they estimated eight to ten weeks total moving time, they completed the job from start to finish in just five short weeks without a hitch. Overall, I would rate them an A+ and would not hesitate to hire them again. Bravo for a job well done!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3372

Moved from California to Hawaii and things went very smooth.

A truck of 3 men arrived at my house in CA to pick up all the things I packaged in about 1 hr, then, a truck of 3 men arrived at my house in HI to drop off all the things I packaged in about 1 hr. A couple of boxes were crushed, but I made sure to transport all of my fragile things (desktop computers, etc) in hard-plastic boxes labeled "FRAGILE", spend the $ and do this to keep fragile things safe.

I also used City Moving to transport 2 vehicles thru Matson that cost me less than the price on the Matson website.

My customer experience guy, Andre, gave me a number I could reach him directly and he dealt with any and all problems that arose, such as shifting timeframes or incorrect vehicle shipping information.

Giving 4/5 stars only because the main shipment took a couple weeks longer than expected, other than that, everything was great.

Move size: Studio Service cost: $6000

My move was not a traditional furniture move that City Moving handles, I needed to ship a vintage motorcycle with sidecar from the California to Hawaii. From my intial contact the company was very willing to work with me to get my shipment to me. They picked the bike up and built a fantastic crate to protect it during shipment and I was surprised at how low the price was for the crating, especially considering how big it had to be. Once picked up I was contacted regularly to update me on the status of the shipment. It actually arrived in Hawaii much quicker than I anticipated. They delivered the crate right to my driveway and even uncrated it for me. The delivery crew (2 people) were very careful and meticulous in their work and they were right on time with the time estimate they gave me for delivery. I felt the overall price for the move was very good, especially considering what the item was and the amount of space it needed to take up in the container. If I was moving anything again I would definitely use City Moving again and would recommend to others who need moving services.

Do not use this company! They lost items, broken storage totes and use unprofessional common-senseless helpers hired from Craigslist they don’t even know!! Not movers!! I had a long distance move from HI to GA. My husband and I were on a tight budget and tight schedule. I asked the salesman if he they can show up and do the job. He said his supervisors said yes. I told him I’m shopping around still. He lit up my phone all day and the next assuring me they don’t need to come out to see the storage unit and gave me a quote, time and date over the phone. We were in a bind they said they could come out Saturday, we had a flight to leave Monday. Well, they showed up 5 hours late and couldn’t do the job. Closed Sunday so rescheduled to Mon. My husband paid to change his flight to stay for pick-up. He called me when they showed up and was so disappointed with their service. It was chaotic, disorderly and rude. The company calculates by cubic ft not weight, which we thought was a plus because we have very heavy items. However, if you don’t pack like Tetris you waste a lot of cubic space! Which is exactly what happened. Paid for a lot of wasted space. Fast forward three weeks later my husband died. I pleaded with them to stop blowing up my phone and give me and my four daughters a moment to catch our breath. I paid the full amount plus storage to get the delivery going. The driver shows up solo has plenty space to maneuver the 18 wheeler truck but manages to snap a full grown tree branch!? I wait another 45 min for his “guys”. Two men show up and introduce themselves to the driver. I asked the driver if he knew them ? His exact words “No, I found them on Craigslist before I got here.” What? You hired these men you don’t know to my home? It was just me and my daughters. I was terrified! I just wanted them to unload into the garage to make it simple and some in the adjacent room from the garage. One reeked of alcohol dropping boxes, leaving boxes in the rain. The other would ask to use the bathroom frequently to take 20-30 min breaks barely helping. They were NOT movers. This was not my first long distance move. I know moving. These guys stacked heavy boxes on top of small ones that were clearly marked fragile! The driver instructed them to tell me the number on the sticker so I could check them off. They were telling me any number they saw on the box incorrectly or not telling me at all! It was mad chaos. The driver would yell from the truck the numbers on the boxes. I repeatedly asked him/them to slow down and show me the number all the while I had to re-stack their shoddy job. By the way, these stickers have a barcode on them. They scan them when they load the but not when they unload on delivery day. Or I was told by Melanie in claims that it’s “new technology that not all the drivers get to use” How useless. That’s how mistakes are made. And ultimately after they were done unloading and I was still checking but not thoroughly done. The driver said he had to go. I said what am I signing he said just the delivery. I said I haven’t checked all the boxes he said not to worry that you can always call customer service they’ll take care of you. I asked for a copy. He was like “let me take care of these guys, I’ll be right back” He hopped in the truck and left. Yes, big mistake but I feel I was taken advantage of. I hadn’t slept since my husband died 6 weeks prior. My main focus was on our daughters. I was a zombie. I noticed later that evening that my Large 75” plus in diameter glass table top that my late father custom-etched waves all around was missing. I would’ve remembered it being unloaded. It’s well over 300 lbs and so wide that you would easily have needed all three of the men to move it. I immediately called and texted the driver and City Moving to which they said “No, it’s been delivered” I filed a formal claim and Of course it was denied. Its lost and they won’t take any responsibility. I am so devastated by this loss. They said their in house investigation shows it scanned onto the truck.. They said they contacted the previous delivery jobs. There’s a couple more boxes missing too. I’m going to file a claim for as well. This is most certainly not what I wanted to be dealing with right now. I’m appalled by this company. I have never written a review. But I feel the public needs to know. And if you’ve seen this table please contact me.

I moved from Hawaii to California just shy of 13 years ago. I had left a bunch of items in storage thinking I was gonna be moving back pretty quick!! Long story short, I met my husband, bought a house, and adopted 2 dogs. So, I'm staying in Cali!! After so much time, I kinda forgot exactly what I had left in storage!! But, I finally had the opportunity to move my things here. After some research on companies specializing in long distance moves I settled on City Moving.

From my initial contact with [NAME EDIT] (sales). To [NAME EDIT] (customer suport). To [NAME EDIT] (billing). To [NAME EDIT] (local area manager). And my movers, MY MOVERS!! both in Hawaii and here, I can't express how amazing and awesome and pretty stress free they all made this stressful experience!!! [NAME EDIT] was very communicative, and took all my crazy questions and concerns with patience and consideration!! The moving team on both ends were fast, careful and just plain nice and a pleasure to work with!! Considering all the craziness that's happening at our ports, all my things arrived timely and in perfect condition!! If you are worried about moving long distance, I do recommend that you stay in constant contact, and ask your "silly" questions!!! Your things are valuable, if not monetarily, sentimentally. And you too should be responsible and proactive in participating in helping the move be successful. City Moving(s) team was amazing! I was extremely worried about the cost of the move, how long it would take, and the care my things would receive!! All those worries were taken into consideration by City Moving, and put to rest!! I would definitely use them again in the future (hopefully not soon tho) lol And MOST DEFINITELY would recommend them!!! To friends and family too!!!
