Short Notice Move

I was able to schedule a move quickly. Customer Service reps were friendly, easy to reach, and had great communication about the pick up, move, drop off, and payment. The moving crew was great. They showed up on time, packed up my old place, and safely delivered my furniture to my new home. They were also very nice and professional.

My Moving Reviews.

I don't usually post reviews, but let this be my first review here on My Moving Reviews. Moving is not something we do on the regular basis, therefore, it's worth to mention that I dreaded the day we had to move. We have two little kids, and it's impossible to have time for anything especially when it comes to packing.
So my wife looked up some moving companies nearby to move us from LA to North Cali.
City Moving is a local company and located close to us. So we felt comfortable enough that they are as local as it gets.
The process of booking them on the phone was easy, Frank was very professional and assured us that we are in good hands. He gave us the breakdown on the whole process. We chose full packing service, with pick up and delivery and unpacking at the new location.
I was kind of anxious about the minimum insurance they have, but Frank got us full coverage insurance, so no matter what happens during the move we have a peace of mind that anything should go wrong we will be covered for any situation.

So we are all set for packing and pick up for next week. And I will definitely update my review on how everything is going to go!
Looking forward to meeting Franks team.

Long-distance move from California to Hawaii

Omg!! I am sooooo happy with these guys.

I went online about 3 months ago to look for a reliable shipper from Los Angeles to Hawaii. And everyone seemed to tell me they were reliable and I read reviews until I didn’t even know what to believe. Some were so horrible I didn’t even want to move anymore. I’ve never moved in my life! I thought I found the right mover and they left me hanging last minute. I called city moving and they came to the rescue. They packed all my things some boxes I had originally packed we’re old and they helped me on the pick up date. It took them a or 4 weeks to get it to Kauai. I am now an official resident of Hawaii! And I am so happy! Thank you thank you so much for helping me last minute. FYI they are probably not the cheapest but they are worth every penny and if you tell them exactly what you have, you won’t have any surprises.

Please read before you pick a mover!

I waited until my items were delivered before I left this review. Not sure where to start so I guess I'll start in the beginning I moved to Honolulu for work about 3 years ago, the company that I was working with picked up the bill I didn't really get a say who moved me to hawaii. They used brokers to set up the move one company picked me up and a completely different company delivered me a lot of my items were damaged! I lost about $16,400 worth of collectibles and antiques my husband lost so many tools. I didn't know who to turn to because the moving company is were blaming each other. It was a freaking nightmare. It was not a good start to my dream job! Turn the clock 3 years later we got the opportunity of a lifetime so it was time to move again.tbis time I crossed all my t's and dotted my i's. I literally interrogated every company I spoke to. Until I found Brian with city moving he answered all my questions and was very easy going everyone else wanted my commitment on our first call. I was able to do a wall through on facetime of all my items and the move went off without a hitch I purchased additional insurance and I made brian swear to me they would not have a different company deliver my items. He kept his word city moving picked me up and delivered me to my new home in Santa barbara. No damages and no complaints the only thing I wish I would of done different was I would of shipped one vehicle in advance. I highly recommend city moving and I will use them again on my next move! My sister is actually moving with them next month.

Long-distance move from Honolulu, HI to Boston, MA

The worst logistic and service management.

DO NOT USE City Moving. I have moved domestically, and internationally multiple times, and this is the worst company I have encountered. You will end us spending so much more money$$ with them.
1. Pick-Up was scheduled between 9a.m. to 1p.m., but the movers did not show up till 7p.m. My building charged me $300 for moving during permitted hours.
2. It took 2 months from the first available delivery date to deliver
3. They held my stuff hostage until I agree to pay them extra shuttle fee that was not in the contract. Otherwise, they will put my stuff in storage and I will have to pay for storage fee, too.
4. Customer service are robotic and poor attitude. Everyone including the manager argues with customers with poor attitudes.
5. Delivery window is vague, and the driver will just call and say he is there tomorrow morning.. how do I take time off work for this?

In summary, I did not received my items for three month from Hawaii to the East Coast, and encountered an addition $1000 fees directly and indirectly from City Moving. I don't even want to know what kind of loss and damage I have in total.. Go with a nation wide reputable company instead.

Long-distance move from Decherd, TN to Lanai City, HI

Wish I Could Give 0 stars.

Lied to me repeatedly about how my goods were charged and promised I would not have to pay one more cent to get my things. Kept increasing the piece before they would give us our stuff. Jose the manager lied to me numerous times and put in writing that I wouldn’t have to pay anymore. Then would not release my items to me until I paid another 1200 items with not guaranteed date of delivery. Dropped my stuff off to another company they never told me about, said I changed my destination which I did not and proved in Writing. Then I had to pay the company they dropped my stuff off to another $1800 to get it to my location and then another $400 to get it to my house. So much for “Door to door guarantee.” WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. LIARS. I have moved several times before and never had issues like this.

City Moving. do Not Use This Company.

Don’t use City Moving. They packed us out from Tampa on 16 June 2019. Terrible. Plates stacked 7 or 8 together. Items not tagged. I called city moving and told the so called moving captain I had about the sloppy work. When they deceived our household goods two days ago here in Hawaii we had over $6,000 in damages. Our Belgian Shrunk top was broken in half, our 65 inch TV had a screen broken in numerous places. Broken Villeroy and Bach dishes. Over a dozen picture frames broken. Many other glass items ruined broken in pieces. I am sorry I picked this company. Please take my advice and stay away from City Moving. I am a Retired Command Sergeant Major From the US Army. Our family moved all over the world numerous times with minimal damages. Trying to call and talk with someone is very difficult. You get voice mail sometimes. Sometimes you get a voice mail message that says the mail box is full. Many times City Moving did not return our calls. The only time they were proactive is when they wanted payment. I talked with a supervisor in claims today. There is not recourse to hold City Moving accountable for their sloppy and terrible work.

Terrible Service - Lost our furniture.

If you are thinking of using this company our experience has been the worst ever possible. They managed to loose over half of our 5 bedroom house of furniture while they were storing it and now 120 days after submitting a fair claim their Claims department is not answering any of our emails and will not take any phone calls. Even their own Customer Service department can't connect us to the Claims department.

Move went well.

Me and my family moved from San Diego to Chicago last month. The move went smoothly for the most part. We did face some delays in delivering our things to the storage unit City provided for us while our apartment was being prepared for us to move in.

City kept us posted along the way regularly. The team was easy to reach which was very Important to me.

Long-distance move from Kailua Kona, HI to Albuquerque, NM

Just don't hire City Moving.

We moved from Kailua Kona to Albuquerque.

Let me say that 4 years earlier, or move from the mainland to Hawaii in a container packed by local contractors arrived without a single broken or damaged item.

The Kona crew was on time and fast, maybe a little too fast but it all worked out. We didn't have a house to move to, so our shipment went to our sons house to be stored in a POD on his property. The delivery in Albuquerque was not communicated well and the truck arrived before our son could arrive from work, when he arrived a large portion of our items were unloaded and stacked all over his driveway by the LONE person sent to unload the truck. The delivery person then moved the items to the POD.

Once we bought a house and started to unload the POD it became apparent just how badly our items had been treated and stacked, who knows if it was delivery or during transit. Either way, City Moving did not respect our property.

Items marked FRAGILE were on the bottom of piled up boxes marked HEAVY. There were tears in boxes and crushed edges. Boxes that had stiffiners installed in the corners were damaged and items inside were destroyed.

We paid over $10k to have our goods abused.

Don't let City Moving do this to you.

Friend Recommended.

It’s hard to find a good and affordable mover these days. My neighbor recommended City as he had used them before a couple years ago. I sold my house and was moving to a smaller condo in Palm
Springs and have City a call.

The process was quite simple and I am happy with the job they did. They really went over and above what I expected.

I needed to have the things I sell or give away wrapped and moved carefully to my new home.

There were no issues along the way.

Long distance move.

City Moving came through for me and my family when I got a job offer and had to move to Anchorage pretty quickly.

The cost was fair and the team came prepared. There were no cost over runs. The storage unit they provided in Anchorage was clean and easily accessible. They really took the stress out of moving and my wife and me plan to recommend them to our friends and neighbors.

Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to Honolulu, HI

No issues.

Everythingwent as planned. I contacted City well in advance of my move. The moving team came well prepared and packed my things with care. It wasn’t a large move but it was far. I got a job in Honolulu and also had to store my things for a few weeks at City’s storage facility. The unit was easy to get to and clean.

The cost was good compared to their competitors that ship to Hawaii. City knew how to make a move go smoothly.

Local move within Hawaii

Unprofessional, lazy, all around terrible movers.

City moving only set one old man to complete a full-service move at my home in Florida. He dropped an antique cedar chest because he was too good to use a ramp. He did not wrap the furniture, including my mattress which was shoved in the back of a dirty moving truck. He asked my 65-year-old mother to help move items.. 65-years old, full- service move..

When all of the above and more was brought to the companies attention, they dropped off the face of the earth. They could never tell us where our items were and the condition.

Finally 2 months later after hours and hours of wasted time and money, a van shows up where the drivers forgot to lock the back of the truck, luckily nothing fell out. My paddleboard was attached to the outside of the truck though its bag was not rated for external carry, and there were mat knife holes in a brand new bag.

Unprofessional, nonexistent communication, and a rip-off. I have pictures and evidence if anyone wants more information. you're better off selling your items before letting them touch them.

Recommend.

City came through for me and my family during a fairly last minute move last week. We had an entire household and two vehicles to move as my husband got a job transfer to Honolulu. One issue we had was initially two fewer movers arrived at our property on the day of packing and moving but that was quickly rectified when I contacted the Parke they manager. She sent out two additional movers to assist right away. The cost was fair and we would recommend their services.

Long-distance move from Hawaii to Texas

Keep Shopping Around.

We chose City Moving based on a recommendation from a friend who was happy with their services. She moved from Los Angeles to Hawaii, we were moving from Hawaii to Texas. In the beginning, we were able to reach customer service without issues. Once we were booked there were some communication issues but nothing too severe or that held up the progress. The pick up went smoothly but over two weeks after our items were picked up, they contacted us reporting they did not have the delivery address, resulting in a reset of the 45-day mark and a delay in the delivery of items. Anyone who has ever moved knows the multiple headaches that come with not having your essentials over a long period of time.

Upon the arrival of our items, the motorcycle, which we paid $400 to crate, was not in a crate. There was damage to the body and the windshield was broken. We were informed by the 3rd party delivery man that it was in this condition when he picked the bike up and it had not been in a crate. Upon going through our boxes it was immediately apparent that a large number of items were missing which included a bunch of tools, men’s leather boots, electronics, watches, and a Canon Rebel Camera. Even stupid things like the rope handles from our cooler, which we didn’t notice until much later. They claim they will safely pack your larger photo frames but there was damage to one of custom framed pieces. We also noted and reported a missing box and receiving a box that was not ours. Throughout the process of the claim there was poor communication. A request for information regarding the claim’s process was shut down, we requested updates, and got no response. We felt there was minimal support to resolve the losses and damages. We were told the claim review process was to take up to 120 days, we did not hear anything from the claims department until we followed up. In the end we were told there was no proof of our stolen items, no proof of theft, and they would do nothing for our missing items. The box which we claimed was missing has not been addressed so we followed up. There was no report of a box being found so nothing was done. We were told we would be reimbursed for the crating fee and .60 cents per pound on the bike. We were told the claim reimbursement would take approximately 30 business days for the payment to go through. Again we had to follow up after the 30 days had passed to get the payment. The amount of stress and anger brought on by this situation was, and continues to be, overwhelming. I would never utilize this company again nor would I recommend this company to anyone else.

If you choose to go with City Movers, learn from our experience:

-Do not assume they have all the information they need to complete your transaction.

-Double and triple check that have all the information from you about pick up and delivery.

-Secure your belongings with tape, zip ties, locks, etc. Do not trust that all those who come in contact with your belongings are honest and trustworthy (this was our mistake).

-Take photos of the loading and unloading of your items, your boxes, and, the items in the boxes.

-Number all your boxes

-If you have a lot of valuables, consider the insurance even though it is incredibly expensive. Apparently you have to have insurance to protect you from theft of YOUR property by City Moving employees.

- If they tell you to file a police report, don’t bother because there is nothing the police will do or can do due to the unknown information about where items went missing.

-Do not expect strong customer service, assistance with any grievances, or timely action to complete the minimal processes.

Long-distance move from Kalaheo, HI to Eagle, ID

Malicious damage.

We moved from LA to Hawaii with another company and everything was perfect. Moving from Hawaii to Idaho was a disaster. I opted for the 100% insurance coverage just to be sure. We were given written instructions on how to pack. No problem, we used lots of good packing material. Aside from being late, all of our boxes arrived crushed, all our dishes, glasses, anything breakable, broke. Our metal bed frame was bent, our computers and monitors were smashed, I took over a hundred photos of the damage. We were then told that they are denying any liability because we packed our own boxes- as they instructed us to do. When I produced the instruction sheet they said the best they could do was refund our insurance premium. I got my premium back but suffered easily $15,000 in damage. They did give me $32 for our $2500 memory foam mattress that was soaked in water like a sponge.

Local move from Colton, CA to Sacramento, CA

Fine movers, bad customer service.

City Moving, while nice, were overall not good at their job of moving our stuff from A to B.

Overview: Movers were fine, nice and fast but had minor damage on a few things. Customer service was an absolute mess. They failed to change vital information despite repeated attempts do so including not updating half our estimate and trying to charge us $2,300 more because of it, and almost sending our things to the wrong address (that was misspelled to begin with). Overall, I'd choose someone else. Further details below.

The deets:

The movers were on time, nice, and professional. They also slightly damaged our most-prized piece of furniture among other things. It happens but that side gets a 3/5 - they're cheaper and we can repair most all the damage.

Customer service was horrid. They were kind, but unfortunately ineffective. We had to change our destination for the move, and had to inform City Moving five times because, despite telling them on the phone, in print, and through their official forms, they never changed the address until the day before because I asked them about it. If I hadn't, there's a great chance our things would have gone to the wrong place.

The estimate process was another headache. When calling for an initial estimate, the rep said all that was needed was a rough estimate and the large pieces of furniture - *this is false* - be very thorough as every sq. ft. not in that estimate will be 2x as much day of. This would have been fine, except I had tried to update our estimate when we found out we had more to pack. They never updated the estimate and I only avoided paying an extra $2,300 because I had in writing that I had been trying to update it - so *get everything in writing*. This, paired with them downplaying the importance of the estimate initially, comes off as a bit shady. If I were being ungenerous, I'd suspect that they were trying to trap us into paying a higher price by getting us to leave things off the estimate. Though, I am sure it was just one of the many errors on their end.

They also showed up a month after our initial pickup. This was the limit of their allowable time. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of. If you need your stuff fast, choose someone else.

Heck, overall, I'd choose someone else.

Long-distance move from California to Hawaii

Worst in the world, bar none.

If you want your things lost, if you want to be lied to on a regular basis, if you want to lose money because you were counting on the shipped items to rent a condo you had purchased, then these floosies are your company. I was promised at every phone call that it would take 3-4 weeks for my things to arrive in Honolulu. It was double that time. Then they lost a mattress, and an antique bed footboard which was irreplaceable. And if you call them to find out what is going on, they ignore you and don't get back to you. 1) They have your money. 2) They have the small print the absolves them of any wrong-doing, they can blame any number of other entities for their incompetence, and 3) they will not help you through the stressful process of moving once they have your money. That's all they want: the money. And then you can go take a flying leap because they will not be there to help you. They will ignore you and they could care less what happens to you and your stuff. They, in effect, are giving you their middle finger.

Long-distance move from San Francisco, CA to Honolulu, HI

TRAUMATIZED

WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. TRAUMATIZED. ANY GOOD REVIEWS LIKELY FAKE. YOU WILL REGRET IT. I value my anonymity but also really want to protect others from this company. Sort reviews by "Lowest" and you will clearly see a pattern. We moved from San Francisco to Honolulu in May. They promised the world before they locked down our business and indicated that they would deliver our things by a certain date. Once they had our deposit and furniture, they could have cared less on their delivery date and instead started to refer us to the buried fine print. It took a couple of weeks longer than expected for our furniture to arrive which forced us to spend money on temporary provisions. They had offered a $500 discount, and now, months after delivery, they are trying to invoice us for the discount that they apparently have retroactively decided not to honor and is calling a mistake (even after we provided all documentation). There is no reasoning with the customer service agent [NAME EDIT]. She constantly gaslights us every time we have a conversation with her. THIS IS A PLACE OF BUSINESS?! How are they legally still allowed to operate? So much time and energy wasted over email and over the phone communicating with unreasonable people. Not to mention they accidentally delivered someone else's box spring when they did eventually deliver our furniture. We contacted them more than once and they never came back to pick it up. We had to call the city to remove it off our property. It's clear that City Moving only cares about getting paid and have absolutely no regard for their customers' property or timeline.

Long-distance move from Honolulu, HI to San Diego, CA

Worst Move Experience

We moved from Honolulu to San Diego and the move was horrible all around. Picking up our stuff, the movers showed up 5 hours late and could’ve cared less about our belongings. Then we were mislead about when we would receive our things. When we tried to call to check where our stuff was, no one would answer or we would get sketchy answers like, “It’s in the warehouse, you will get it soon.” Finally, our stuff arrived almost 2 months after being picked up. Our belongings were gross, covered in dirt, broken, and we had almost $1,000 in missing items. They claimed to have “found” our missing items and were supposed to ship them to us, but we have yet to receive them. If you value your belongings at all, please don’t use this company.
