This is my first time using a moving service and I am grateful that I called Charter Van Lines. I moved some household items from a friend's place to Las Vegas and I am surprised that the move wasn't as stressful or time consuming as people have warned me. Although I thought the quote was a little on the high side - compared to other moving companies this was a bargain! When I called to confirm the movers were already on their way and ready to get their hands dirty. The customer service was friendly and professional. The moving staff was prompt, punctual and efficient. When moving furniture items they were considerate and moved each piece carefully and treated each item with care (even if it was a box full of clothes). I'm glad I was able to trust Charter Van lines with moving items across state lines. Knowing I can trust a company with my belongings was a relief. If you want your first moving experience to be a breeze call Charter Van Lines.

Horrible experience! They stole my money and broke their contract. They refused to refund my deposit money of $915 dollars! Do not trust them! They lied to me several times when I wanted to speak to a manager. I canceled 8 days prior to our move. They said the 8th day didn't count as a whole day since I was calling in the afternoon. My husband and I are pastors and we have a huge move ahead of us and we didn't need this financial stress in the middle of everything going on. I will warn everyone against this company and you should stay far away from them. It seemed a little odd to me that all the other moving company's had 1 and 2 star ratings while this one had 5 stars. I wouldn't trust these other reviews!

I recently moved from Seattle to New York. Customer service was great.. until delivery day.

1. I did not receive any confirmation phone call prior as promised in contract. I received a phone call from the dispatched driver day of saying he was 30 min away. Fortunately, I was able to get someone at drop off location.

2. I quickly called Charter Van Lines to see why I had not received a phone call and the response: relinquish responsibility for driver/dispatch communications and referred to themselves simply as "booking" company

3. I then was told by driver I would have to pay $350 for a shuttle service (in contract) because Charter Van Line had pre-determined that the moving truck wouldn't fit onto my "narrow" streets (I live in a suburb in Long Island)

Again, I call Charter Van Line to dispute this charge as my street is a designated fire lane and there are tons of delivery trucks to 7/11 on the corner. This is when I was treated poorly, hung up on several times and told I would need to pay fee or my items would be put in storage and I would be responsible for payment per day.

In the end, when dealing with the drivers/movers, they agreed for no need for use of shuttle, (simply following orders) so I did not pay the fee. Charter Van Lines proved to not want to help a paying customer and took no responsibility.

Clearly, not a professional company.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1524

The most pleasant experience was getting a quote. They appeared to be very professional and customer friendly. Everything after that was downhill. The dispatcher did not call to say when he was coming. I had to call and find out for myself. The driver was extremely rude and tried to charge me an additional $900 in fees because he said I doubled the cubic square feet that was in the estimate but he would not allow me to see how he packed the truck.I only had 3 more medium boxes than I estimated which should not have exceeded the allowed square footage and the estimate . He also tried to charge an additional $300 because he said he had to walk more than 150 feet from the moving truck to my apartment. I was moving from a one bedroom apartment for both locations. The driver also refused to leave his drivers license with the concierge to receive the key fob for the freight elevator, so he told me I would have to operate the elevator and wait for him to load and unload the elevator because he was not going to leave his license with anyone. Since I refused to pay the additional $900 in fees the movers left my final destination without assembling my bed. Charter Vanlines only offered to give me $30 for my inconvenience. Do yourself a huge favor and look for a better company that will not contract your move to rude and money hungry swindlers.

Before my big move, I had been pretty apprehensive about how stressful it would be - but Charter made everything so much more streamlined than I ever thought possible! Right away, I was relieved to know that they would be there every step of the way to transport all of my belongings. I didn't have to go through the trouble of figuring things out on my own, and they were incredibly supportive, attentive, and reliable. All of my initial questions were answered, and throughout the transport process they took excellent care of all of my things. I especially appreciated how professional and helpful the movers were. I'm so glad I decided to use Charter, and I cannot imagine accomplishing a move like this any other way. I've already recommended them to my friends and family, and I'll definitely call them up if I ever need to relocate again.

An easy going company that is willing to help you with any question you may have about your move. I have done a couple of interstate move in the past and this company had the fairest price and provided the more quality services so far. They took care of my stuff and everything arrived within the scheduled time and with no problems.

Charter Van Lines has specific tools and boxes for small and big items that were very convenient for all my stuff. I was confident and relaxed during the whole process, which is what matters the most for me. So, great service.

Excellent company all around. I have used several moving companies in the past as we are a military family and there was ALWAYS an issue. Whether it be a huge disastrous delay on time or missing/broken items. The best part of this company is Rachel. She stayed after hours on several occasions to make sure everything got done on time. We have 3 children and many valuables/breakables. Not one thing arrived damaged and everything was performed in a timely and professional manner. Highly recommend!

Moving has always been a stressful process for me, but Charter Van Lines put me at ease from the beginning. Being a military family, I have been through plenty of moves. This company was straight forward with us the entire time, from cost to time estimates. Any questions or reservations I had were addressed in an easy manner. They did not shy away from any of my concerns and that gave me confidence that they were successful at what they were doing.

They helped us pack some of our loose belongings in appropriately sized boxes, to ensure they were kept safe during the moving process. They were not daunted by the amount of stuff we had but seemed to carry and air of focus.

It is so common to see a moving company just pile your stuff onto their truck and unload it without any finesse. That was not so with Charter Van Lines. I could tell that they were treating my belongings safely, not hurriedly and without consideration. They were very knowledgeable on how to pack the items into the truck to ensure minimal moving/shifting from point A to point B. None of my belongings were damaged, not even the boxes they were packed in.

All belongings were placed in our new house according to what was asked of them. All furniture was placed in the proper rooms, which ensured most of the labor was already done for us. The only thing we had to do for our own move, was unpack the new house!

I will be using this company again in the future, no doubt about it. I highly recommend you do the same!

Charter Van Lines helped make my first move a breeze! I recently moved from an apartment into my first home and was referred to Charter Van Lines by a family member who had a great experience with them. They answered all of my (many) questions which set my mind at ease. They took great care of all of my belongings and moved everything quickly. The price was great for the level of care I was given. I have no complaints and will recommend them to others who are in need of a great moving company!

Charter Van Lines was super professional. My move was local, so I was going to move everything myself. However, I had hurt my back a week before the move, and I did not want to put any more strain on it. I was stressed out and running out of time. I went with Charter Van Lines based on a recommendation from a family member and couldn't have been more pleased. They used extreme care with all my belongings, and moved me very quickly. Would definitely use them again.

My husband's job was relocated out of state and I wasn't looking forward to moving. We have three kids under five! And we've lived here for years and accumulated so much stuff. I did not want to pack it all and move it. I wasn't even sure how I was going to do it all while taking care of the kids. But my aunt told me about this service she used and liked so I looked up Charter Van Lines. I used the estimator feature on the website - and my final price was almost spot-on to the quote! There is no way we could have managed this move on our own. Charter Van Lines was so professional and nice - they didn't even mind the kids running around! I'm telling everyone I know about how awesome you guys are!

Moving is never an easy task -- quite the opposite, it's usually a huge pain. I'm so lucky I found Charter Van Lines for my most recent move! They really made the whole process so much easier than I could've imagined. Everything, from start to finish, was a breeze. They took such great care of my belongings, which is something I always worry about. I will definitely be using them for any future moves, and will surely be recommending to family and friends for their moves as well!

Charter Van Lines really saved me a lot of trouble. I had to help my godparents move at the last minute from the Chicago area to Jacksonville. I really appreciated how patient they were in hearing what I need and suggesting the best way to go about it. Even though we planned on driving the cars there ourselves, they let us know the option was there to have those shipped as well. I wouldn’t have even thought of that.
The move went so smooth, nothing was broken or missing and they took the time to walk through the itemized lists to make sure of that we knew everything was there. The movers were patient and let us play around with room arrangements to get it the way we needed. I would definitely recommend Charter Van Lines to anyone looking for out of state movers.

Best decision I have ever made! I have moved MANY times over the last ten years, and I wanted to spoil myself by hiring a moving company. Moving from the Arizona to Missouri would be hard for anyone with a family of four, but hiring a moving company made everything simple.
Charter Van Lines has a very simple website, easy bookkeeping process, and very helpful staff to make your experience free of stress. The rates were very affordable, and there were no hidden fees. The movers showed up on time, friendly, and ready to go. Our belongings were handled with care, which I really appreciated, and nothing was left or lost in the process.
I highly recommend Charter Van Lines! We will be using them again for our next move and spreading the word about how we had a wonderful experience, no stress, and everything was handled as if was their own belongings.

People hate moving and so do I. Initially I wanted to do the move myself but the laziness factor was too big (just did a move a year ago).

So I decided to outsource this project. Look for the best quote vs service. I read a bunch of reviews - some really good ones and some really bad ones. No clue what to make out of this volatility and at the end I just give an xxx and went with Charter Van Lines. Everything went smooth, I was billed what they quoted me, no damage (not even a scratch at my mahogany table), which is a good indicator. Based on this moving experience I can only give this company the highest rating - I hate do so since usually there is always potential to improved but to be fair.. it was top service!

They moved me in record time and they did not lose or damage a single thing. Everything was delivered in perfect shape! Also, they did not try to overcharge me. I paid exactly what I was quoted in the beginning. I highly recommend them. They were pleasant and fun to be around.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $450

We hired this company to move us from Florida to Indiana, they were very good at telling you how great their moving record was & initial quote wasn’t too bad of $2600. But being in Indiana already we had to guess on the number of boxes & goods to be moved. Within two weeks of move we added 20 boxes & a few other items, our price went up another $600. Then we started packing & had to make a few changes again, on & off stuff that cost us another $500. On moving day an older truck pulls up not identified as Charter, but the fellas explained they wrap & take our goods to the delivering truck. They packed things very good but estimated it could be another $615, which it did cost us after packing. 9 days after leaving we got delivery from another trucking company that advised they picked goods from Truck for delivery to our house. I now realized our belongings were loaded and unloaded at least six (6) times. If I would have known that up front I would have insured my belongings. The truck dropping off goods just wanted to unload & leave, but the loading truck advised that we should check off the items as they were unloaded. BE SURE YOU DO THAT!! The guys gave us a hard time about the time it took them to have us check off items as unloaded, glad my daughter was with us to help with that.
We had a water softener system shipped with goods worth over $6000, when a company was installing in new home the found the control Head was severely damaged & tanks leaked at threads. It was clear that the tanks fell over & damaged. It will cost us another $2400 to have this fixed, the $0.60 a pound recovery that is offered almost isn’t worth the bother to file for. Again if we knew goods would have been loaded & unloaded more than 6 times I would not of used this company or would have insured my belongings, we will have over $6000 into this move by the time we are done. Very upsetting.

I’m a control freak, so I was already apprehensive when I knew I needed to hire a moving company. Charter Van Lines helped me go from Florida to Pennsylvania without skipping a beat. They helped me figure out everything I needed to have a good move. They meticulously talked me through pricing, services, truck sizes, and many other details until I felt comfortable completing the journey north. Other companies I called for quotes didn’t take the same amount of time and care they did. Now that I’ve moved with Charter Van Lines I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to move by myself again!

This is a real review I called Charter and they provided great customer services I thought for sure my move was going to go smooth. Until moving day came and their claws came out. The quote was no were near what I paid for. The movers came and said my move was another 3,000 more for what I was quoted. I told them I didn't have the 5,000 so they said oh well you for fit your deposit which was a little over 1,000. I felt trapped I didn't want to lose out in a 1,000 and I really had to move out. So after loaded my stuff the storage location changed without my consent. I was relocated to Florida and the movers stored my stuff in New Jersey. As soon as they had my money it was a nightmare to get my things. I kept calling the people who had my stuff and Charter Van Lines and they kept saying different things. Finally after a month I was able to get them to bring my stuff to Florida from Connecticut. My daughters bedroom frame broken, 52 inch screen tv broken, my computer desk broken, my daughter barbie doll house broken. The mover gave me a false website to go on to make a claim. Not only did they take advantage of you when they have your stuff they break it. DO NOT USE THEM UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE ROBBED!!

One of the worst experiences that I’ve ever had. They will lie to you, they will add additional fees before they will unload your furniture, and items will be missing.
Customer service is pretty much like the Stepford wives. They’ll tell you where ever you want to hear and you’ll believe them, but unfortunately, it’s not true.
To top it all off, on the unexpected delivery of a Sunday afternoon, when there’s nobody in customer service, they demanded $650 additional shuttle fee. I paid it, but I’m going to dispute it. We just wanted to get the furniture that they been waiting on for three weeks.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $3200

Charter van lines was a terrible company to do business with. We were given an estimate and the required deposit based on that estimate. We were told July 3rd or the 5th because of the holiday. they did not come until the 6th at 3:30 pm and with 2 movers they did not finish until 7:30. We needed ot start driving cross country so it was a very late start. The estimate went up $600. We were told that it would be 5 to 14 days to deliver. Now we are dealing with Arrow Movers. So when you contract with Charter van lines, you will not be dealing with that company again. Every time we tried to call to find out when we could expect delivery, we had tremendous difficulty getting to speak with a person. After 3 weeks, our furniture was still in CA, our starting point. Arrow now changed the rules and said that delivery would be 15 to 30 days. When the 30th day arrived, they said it had to be 30 business days. They then informed me, that an added $700 would be tacked on because my street could not accommatdate an 18 wheeler. I call our city traffic coordinator, who firmly confirmed that given the width of my street and the fact that the is a city ordinance that no one could park 20 ft from the intersection. When I relayed that information, I was told google said the street could not handle the truck. On a Friday evening at 6 pm, we were notified that delivery would be the next day at 12 pm. Of course, that now means they do count Saturdays as work days. The day of delivery, Ashley(from Arrow) said that I would still be charged the extra $700 for a shuttle. She now said thaat the truck was too heavy for my street. On the day of delivery, when the truck arrived the mover said he called the manager to say the added fee was unfair because my streeet definitely could have handled the 18 wheeler. The company's policy is that they will reimburse you $25 for every day over the 30 days of delivery. That did not happen. Serge, Thomas and Charlie were very professional, honest and hard working. I do not know where our stuff was but many of our boxes were totally wrecked and many items were broken, along with the wheels on our vintage desk. My advice is DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. I intend to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

They lie! They provide a "binding estimate" and said we won't be charged surprise fees at pick up. Even though we are below our inventory list they are charging us more money now. They said that they would be doing the move but instead have farmed it out to someone else. PLUS my daughters belongings have NOT been delivered as promised and apparently it's still in California!
DO NOT USE THEM!! Dishonest company. I wish I saw these reviews before I hired them.
