Long-distance move from Falls Church, VA to Dayton, OH

Worst moving company I have worked with in my military career.

Dishonest, and anti- military! Do not use! Check the BBB for honest (and a lot of dishonest) reviews. The long reviews with details are all very similar to my experience. They told me they were a "military preferred mover" and one of the "Top 3 military movers on the east coast." All of these were verified false with JPPSO once I started having problems. They gave me one rate with great promises, then over doubled the rate and told me that was just for moving, not for packing. When I told them that was unacceptable, they told me I was not allowed to cancel, they would come anyway. After a lot of discussion, I was finally able to find the local mover who they subcontracted with, and they said they were given different dates and would need 3 full days (as I estimated), and that they would not be able to arrive until two days after I needed to be out of the house.
Do not use! I have been in the military for over 20 years, with over a dozen moves, and this was the worst experience I have ever had. (Yes, I have more details if you want to know. See BBB for other similar horror stories.).

Long-distance move from North Carolina to Florida

Not good!

Assurance Van lines out of NY city is a broker for the actual moving company. Eazy moving out of Miami FL was the one who physically moved my belongings. Unfortunately, it all comes down to the guys you get. I was moving a three bedroom house and they showed up with two guys! It took them 10 hours to load my stuff onto the truck. That wouldn't have been so bad if they had spent the time blanket wrapping all the furniture, but they didn't. The soft furniture like my fabric headboard and chair cushions didn't get wrapped
either so there are grease marks on them and 95% of my wood furniture has gouges (not scratches) on the legs, tops or sides. The truck wasn't big enough so they were just cramming it in there. In fact, they didn't get everything in the truck like my refrigerator. Luckily, my house in NC is in escrow so I can go back and get it. I called Assurance van lines on Monday and they appeared concerned when I explained what happened but when I called back the next day, my account was handed over to the customer service department not a single individual. I still don't have my refrigerator nor will anyone call me back. I have called four times and Assurance puts me through to Eazy moving which says they will call back once the dispatcher checks the NC to FL schedule. Luckily I paid the broker, Assurance van lines, by credit card so I disputed the charge.

The photo is the desktop where they placed the finish side against the wall of the truck and the metal pattern of the truck is now gouged into it.

Long-distance move from California to Texas

John W. from assurance gave us an excellent deal.

Moving during the holiday season was a bit of a crazy idea. I was a bit nervous we'd be celebrating Christmas on an empty house this year. But after it was all said and done, the $3200 move from CA to TX was absoutely worth every penny.

John from Assurance took our call and although we didn't commit to leaving a deposit on our first call, he said he'd be willing to bring down the price even more if there was any other reputable BBB company that would give us a quote. Sure enough. I got him 2 other quotes. He matched one and he gave me a better price than the other. Total move was quoted $3200, but it all came out to $3400 because of a few boxes we hadn't calculated.

We're very happy with the movers and the support Assurance provided to us during our transition to another state. Thanks guys.

Service cost: $3400

Official company response

Elijah, thank you for choosing Assurance Van Lines for your relocation. I'll be sure to share your review with John and the rest of the team! Cheers - Mike J.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Georgia

RUDE and very unprofessional Service.

I would not use them again nor will I recommend them. I received the delivery 14 calendar late than our scheduled delivery date, charged me 20% more than original amount, driver didn’t know to drive and park 53’ truck - ended up damaging landscaping, received the delivery with damage/broke the sofa frame and tower fan, very hard to communicate with driver and crew members as they only knew few English words.

The sales person and manager were very nice until I signed the contract but experienced RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL behavior from both John and Kassandra during the post pick-up process. The A+ rating by BBB is a false advertisement. The claim process is very time consuming.

Long-distance move from Florida to Nevada

Would deff recommend.

We were in search for a good deal on our relocation for about 3 weeks. We spoke to dozens of companies both movers and brokers. Out of all of them, they Assurance gave us the best price for the amount of things we were moving.

We spent about 2 hours going over our inventory and then went ahead and tried to get a better deal, but we weren't able to.So much of the time was wasted going back and forth finding a better price.

We were told there was no possible way this price would carry out 2 bedrooms from FL to Nevada, but luckily it did! $3100 for 2 bedroom home.

Service cost: $3100

Long-distance move from Alabama to New York

Top notch mover at a bargain price.

My situation was a bit different. I needed to find a moving company at a very last minute notice, and due to the fact that this was a last minute request with just 4 days due to move out I was being quoted $6200 - $14,000 for the exact same 2 bedroom move from Alabama to NY. I'm more than happy to recommend assurance to anyone looking for a top notch mover brokered from Assurance for a cheap price. I'm happy all their competitors were wrong when they told me "you're going to regret going with them..".

Excellent Service, Cheap, Cheap, Cheap!!

These guys gave a super low ball price for my relocation, I was so nervous I was going to get ripped off.. I gave my $850 deposit on good faith. Comes the day of the move and movers showed up on time, delivery was estimated between 1-7 days, and it came on the same day, and all my things came home safe. I'm not sure how people are going around saying they've been ripped off, when I clearly have used these guys and have been delivered what I was sold on.

Long-distance move from West Virginia to Indiana

Beware of this company.

I signed an agreement with Assurance Van Lines and told them I needed them to be at my home on November 11, 2016. The document stated they would be at my home on the 11th or 12th. My two daughters and I drove from Indiana to West Virginia where they were to pick my furniture up. They did not show up on the 11th as I had asked them to then on the 12th I did not hear from them until late in the afternoon to say they would not be at my home until th next morning; they broke our agreement. They stated they could not drive on West Virginia roads in a semi truck but I told them semis drove past my home daily. They told me they could not back into my driveway without even seeing my driveway. They never showed up BUT they had Busget Movers and Storage come on Sunday morning, the 13th and the driver stated to me and my daughters they had not known they were picking up my things until the day before when he got a phone call when he was in Florida unloading his truck saying he was to be in West Virginia the next morning, pick up a smaller truck then come load my furniture. I was lied to, they broke their agreement, my daughters had to go to work early Monday morning with very little sleep since we did not g back home until close to midnight and they had to be up by 5am the following morning to be at work by 6am. I was told I would have up to 30 days free storage but about 10 days later I had a phone call from the driver saying my furniture was in Kentucky and be delivered th following day. I told them that was impossible as they were to store it for up to 30 days free and I had not prepared for storage yet. I was charge $500 more than originally quoted for less pounds of furniture than originally agree upon. I feel I was jerked around and not kept informs as to where my furniture was located. I have written a letter to th Better Business Bureau explaining all the dishonesty involved with my move. I would NEVER give this company a good rating as I was totally upset with what they did. I feel Assurance Van Lines lied to me just to get my business then had a different company actually come to my home. I have received large items delivered to my home there where semi trucks backed into my driveway to unload them. They should not be recommended by the a Better Business Bureau. I am a very unhappy customer of this company. Virginia Bilyard.

Virginia, I'm very sorry to hear your experience with Assurance. I'm personally looking into this matter and unprofessional servicing from the movers we'd scheduled for you. If you can, kindly send me your move info to mike.j@assurancevanlines.com. Thanks - Mike J.

Long-distance move from Blacksburg, VA to Knoxville, TN

Easy Move.

My partner and I decided to move to Knoxville together and so we had to combine our separate apartments into one moving service. We thought this would be a really annoying process but this company made it easy to go from one apartment to the other and get both sets of stuff before we hauled off to Knoxville. They even took an extra stop at my shared storage unit to grab a few extra things. Very flexible and professional.

Sensitive to my personal situation.

Brandon and Jim are the company reps who I dealt with in scheduling my move. A close relative passed away the same day the movers were scheduled for pickup. Jim was very professional in handling my case and told me he'd send another truck in 2 days. He didn't charge me a penny extra even when the contract said otherwise. Losing someone is something I don't wish to even my enemies, but adding the stress of move put even more pressure on me and my family. Brandon and Jim handled this situation with sensitivity and professionalism. I came from NM to SD for a total of $5300 for a 3 bedroom home. I have nothing but good things to say about Assurance van lines.

Mark helped me out immensely. I needed an estimate for a last minute move with a really fast delivery. My last company fell through a week out and I was desperate. Contract with moving company.

I used Assurance Van Line Services to contract with a moving company. Storage was also included. When the movers came, the cost was much more than the estimate even though I had deleted items on the list. When I received my belongings, several items were broken, most of the wooden furniture had scratches, tools and boxes were missing.
I don't feel that Assurance Van Lines investigates the companies they work . I have filed a claim. The insurance company took 4 months to respond, response being, the moving company wants to handle the claim themselves. I was given a phone number, left messages with no response. It has been almost 6 months and I have received no satisfaction. When a company is a broker, they have an obligation to determine if the companies they find jobs for are any good.

My review after move completion.

Brandon & Jeff were my main points of contact to schedule my relocation back to Saint Paul. Initially I was a bit hesitant about the whole long distance move situation because of everything I heard from other people. But these guys got me a bit more comfortable in how long distance moving works when going through a broker. I hired a couple of college kids to help me get all my fragile belongings with extra padding, we packed our clothes in air-sealed bags and placed them on large boxes.

My TV, Computers & Mirrors were left to pack to the movers which they charged an extra $200 for. My total move for a small 3 bedroom home from NJ to MN came to $3,600. The movers who were sent to me for pick up and drop off of my items were fast and professional. I was a bit tough on them when they came to get my stuff to make sure they placed all my fragile items of top and had them reinforce with tape all my boxes. I am left with a positive experience in hiring Assurance Van Lines as my brokers. My moving number was M4491125.

Service cost: $3600

Official company response

Shirley! I'll make sure I share your positive feedback with Brandon and Jeff. I'll also give the movers a high five for taking care of you. Do let me know if there's anything Assurance Van Lines can do for you. Cheers! - Dan.

Worst Experience In All My Moves Over the Years.

The rudest, most unreliable company on the planet. Both pickup and drop off were both more than hours late.

Told couch would not fit on the elevator at the drop off site and it would be $200 cash (right now!) to carry it up the stairs. Called customer service at Assurance and was hung up on. Funny, the doorman was able to get the couch on the elevator.

Honestly, there is nothing positive I can say. Oh, and this is cut from the Better Business Website: "This business is not BBB accredited." Check it out for yourself.

My feedback on using assurance van lines for relocation.

This is the the last and only time I'll be relocating to a difference state. The whole relocation process has been pretty stressful for me. Getting the new lease in NY, packing everything, getting rid of things, choosing what will be taken and what will stay.. Getting my kids to get on board and help me out. If it wasn't for assurance, I would have rather leave everything in Nashville and start all over.

Assurance helped me negotiate for a low-cost move for my 2 bedroom apartment. I packed things myself and had the movers make sure all my boxes were properly sealed and my furniture was protected to avoid scratches. During pick up and drop off, I was supervising to make sure nothing would get lost/damaged. Thankfully, the movers on pick up and delivery did a very good job in getting my things moved. My move #4499154, was quoted for $2400 which included the furniture, boxes, & mattresses. When things got home, they were setup with caution and care. I'd certainly recommend these guys for long distance moving.

Service cost: $2400

Official company response

Tai, thanks for sharing your positive feedback with Assurance Van Lines. We completely understand that relocating and moving out of state can be a very stressful process. Everything I needed for my relocation.

I worked with Jason in scheduling my relocation to Chicago. I was looking for a complete moving solution that would fit my budget. He was able to bring down packing to $1,200 and the move to $3,800. My job on the move was simply to separate things and point where everything was and where everything went on the new place. I had 2 chairs scratched during the move, but everything else was delivered in perfect condition by the movers. Based on this experience I'd certainly use them in the future for a relocation job.

Disgusting Company. Run.

The service I received from this company is appauling. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. They stated they match any accredited quote, but once you issue a lesser quote that has all the bells and whistles it becomes an argument. I simply stated to cancel the reservation probably 10 times. The salesman, Jordan P. Just continued to talk over me telling me I do not understand and that I was going to be ripped off by the other companies. The conversation that I had on speaker phone became so ill, my fiancé took the phone out of my hand and stated he did not like the way this man was talking to his fiancé and to cancel the reservation and give us our $400 deposit back. Jordan continued to do the exact same thing and talk over him. We finally were able to ask for a manager who was far worse. He stated we didn't care about our stuff and proceeded to tell us that we enjoy being ripped off and every time I even said "cancel" he would respond with "ripoff." So just imagaine a grown man who is a manager having a tantrum on the phone and saying"rippoff ripoff ripoff ripoff ripoff ripoff ripoff ripoff ripoff." You almost have to pitty someone of that nature who thinks that is the proper way to handle situations. I don't know how the phone call lasted as long as it did considering we just ended up calling the bank and retrieving our money that way. The worst part is this company is so childish they entered my information, my name and phone number, into a spam mortgage call log so I receive endless calls, voicemails, and text messages. I hope for the sake of karma this place goes out of business and the rats that scam honest people end up in jail. I highly doubt this is the worst they've ever done in their life to people.

Service cost: $1149

Official company response

Colleen, This type of behavior is completely unacceptable in our business. I have a meeting scheduled with the individuals you outlined this afternoon and take the proper measures. We'll be reviewing all recorded conversations and take proper measures to make sure this does not happen to anyone. My sincere apologies. Please send me a any information you have regarding your move at Mike.j@assurancevanlines.com - Mike Johnson.

Long-distance move from Nevada to Texas

Relocation done at a price I could afford.

Moving long distance is so expensive, regardless whichever way you choose to take it. On my case, I've relocated from Las Vegas to Dallas with my 3 kids. I tried to get rid of as much stuff as possible and bring just the essentials, but even then we ended up with 3 rooms worth of furniture / toys / beds / clothing / personal items and their toys. The entire move was done for $3400 with the veterans discount. I had to call and change my move dates a two times, and was only charged extra the very last time because it was a date closer than the other. Some of my plastic bins arrived with a bit of dirt didn't get inside be bins, but it did get my house floor dirty. Other than that inconvenience the movers did a great job.

Sylvia, thanks for choosing Assurance Van Lines for your relocation. I'm glad everything went well with your move. Please let us know if there's anything else we can do for you. Cheers! - Dan.

Pretty & ugly of relocating with assurance.

I used assurance to take care of my relocation to Salt Lake City from San Diego. My movers assigned to M4498445 were professional, but showed up late on both ways. When they arrived, they helped me tape up all my boxes and disassembled all my furniture and placed blankets with wrapper.

When I called assurance while the movers were here, they provided with the moving company's phone number to talk about their fees. Since Assurance acts like brokers, they calculate and quote you based on the estimated size/weight of what you tell them on the phone, but it's all recalculated once the movers have shown up.

My move was completed successfully without any damages, and my move was done for $4790, when it was quoted for $4,500 by assurance. Compares to all the quotes I had received, this was still a competitive price. I advice you to make sure your sizes, item count and estimates are thoroughly revised so you don't under-calculate and get eaten up by the final price when movers show up.

Davies.

My relocation to Orlando.

I wanted to drop by to leave my positive feedback for Brian, Mark and John for helping me with my relocation to Orlando. My significant other just went with the Lord, and I wanted to get my life back together and start from scratch. Brian got me professional packers to come and help me get things separated, ordered and packed so I could give away most of it and take with me the necessary. I donated more than half of my belongings and just brought with me my tempurpedic bed, my massage chair a small dining table and my entertainment center. Everything came down to $2000 to move from Nashville to Orlando. The movers did good job in getting everything in and out of the truck in less than 2 hours. I'd say this was certainly a stress-free relocation for me, and thank you for making it easy for me during this transition.

Long-distance move from Massachusetts to Georgia

I lost $400 with another company, Assurance came to the rescue.

I had booked a relocation to Georgia with another "van lines" company, and 3 days before the move they called me to let me know they would not have a mover come in under the week after. I fought them trying to get my $400 back and I'm now going through my card company to see if I can get refunded, but to make long story short, I ended up looking around to see who would be willing to honor the quote I had on a very short notice.

I called Assurance and 4 hours later got a call back from their manager Michael, who was extremely gracious and understanding of my situation, and he was able to match the deal I had gotten from competitor with a signed copy of contract.

As far as the move went, they movers did a great job at getting things down to my new place, nothing got lost or mishandled, just as I'd expected.

Service cost: $4400

Lily, thanks so much for choosing Assurance Van Lines for your relocation. I'm very happy to hear your move went very well. As always, let us know if there's anything else we can do for you. - Dan.

Buyer Beware - - - no Stars.

Assurance Van Lines is a Broker - DO NOT USE. The initial phone call with sales sounded promising - they will promise you a timely delivery in 5-8 days; however, once they pick up - they have up to 21 business days. Read the fine print! Don't expect to reach a live person if you have a problem - the employees are super incompetent. The move cost around $200+ more than the quote. Items were missing/damaged. The insurance company for claims is a joke as well. I'm not sure who is giving them good reviews - but I wouldn't recommend this company to move anything. Items picked up Aug 6th and delivered September 1st. BUYER BEWARE.

Service cost: $1700

Official company response

Pete, I apologize for the negative experience you might have experienced with Assurance. First, we don't pressure or threat anyone to do business with us, that's up to you as the consumer to decide. Second, our reps DO NOT Guarantee a delivery date, we do estimate it but we clearly tell our customers the extended delivery date range they can expect their items delivered - if this wasn't the case, I'll personally have to track down the call with the rep who misinformed you. I'd love to help clarify any misunderstandings, Kindly submit your move date & moving # to mike.j@assurancevanlines.com to address any issues. Thank you - Mike.

Still waiting on my things.

I was continually hassled by this company to use them for my move from phx to san antonio. Sales rep started quote at 1800 and when I declined they finally came down to 1200. When the movers came to pick up my stuff they said I would have to pay 1400 and I was misquoted. What was I to do at this point if I didn't pay they weren't taking my things. I was assured my belongings would arrive on Oct 24. I have called them every single day asking for my things and they said there is nothing they can do because they are inside the contract. Why promise a delivery date that you have no guarantee you can deliver on. Apparently they have up to 21 days to deliver. The customer service rep actually told me to "be patient". They take your money and then give you the run around. no empathy whatsoever and a "deal with it" attitude.

Service cost: $1400

Official company response

Chistabel, I apologize for the negative experience you might have experienced with Assurance. Just to clarify, we quote based on distance / weight / size of move. Long-distance move from West Virginia to Florida

Horrible Company.

This is the most unprofessional moving company ever!! They are brokers, they are not a real moving company. They quoted my small apartment for 1,800$ total. When the movers got there they were from a totally different company and the movers charged us an extra 361$ for 3 bins because they weren't boxes. When they delivered my things they charged us an additional 250$ because they said they couldn't fit an 18 wheeler truck in our new apartment complex; which they could have ! I had a money order that I gave the movers and they said they wouldn't take it, only cash. So I had to go cash the money order myself before they unloaded my things. So basically you don't even go through "Assurance Van Lines". They take your money and put you into the hands of convicts who just got released from prison who are just trying to scam and make more money.
