Long-distance move from Texas to California

Ttotal Negative Out-of State Move.

Chelsie did a great job selling us on her company.  She promised careful packing, great follow-up communication and  NO extra fees on dellivery.    Of course, she couldn' be precise on moving dates as those have to be coordinated.  We understood that.  I contacted Chelsie May 16th and told her our family member was moving to the new apartment May 23rd.  That's when everything fell apart.  All communication with Teresa nd tne "manager" I dealt with were incredibly rude and unhelpful.  It was insisted that I fax a copy of my driver's license and credit card.  I objected as I have never had that requirement of me by any company in the past.  Finally got a virtual credit card and sent that, along with a fax of my driver's license with part of the ID info obscured.  That was approved.  Although I called a week before daughter moved into the new place, she did not receive the shipment until more than a week AFTER SHE MOVED, A PERIOD OF TWO WEEKS. .During that time, she slept on the floor in a sleeping bag and had only a card table and chair for furniture.  When she told Teresa that, she was laughed at.  We also had been told to have a cashier's check made out to American Knights for the balance, athough they apparently knew they would not be making the delivery.  They transferred the shipment to another company somewhere along the line.  Daughter had to run to the bank at the last minute and get a new cashier's chec k in the name of the actual delivery company.  Worse than that, American Knight's packiong materials had been removed and drawers bounced around in the truck unprotected.  An 2 month old, $800 dresser had been dropped and a carved foot broken.  A desk had a large chip out of a corner.  20% of the shipment did not even make the trip, including a comic book collection.  Insult to injury, te delivering driver needed a check for $75 because they had to carry items across an apartment parking lot.  American Knights had promised NO extra delivery charges.  We had never been told the shipment would be handed off to a different company.  The driver insiseted daughter seign the  bill of laden, noting the damage.  She was not immediately aware o the missing items. When she called Teresa, she was told they would "check the warehouses" for any of her missing boxes.  The number given for claimse is never answered.   Suggest choosing another company for any out-of-state moves.

American Knights Movers.

These people ruined or damaged every piece of furniture they touched and I have the pictures to prove it. They cost me hundreds of dollars to replace damaged furniture and refinishing costs are estimated to be in the thousands. They had the audacity to offer $300 on the insurance claim. They broke off a corner of a coffee table but did glue it back on. I would not even consider using them again and would recommend that they not be considered by anybody for any reason.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Virginia

Rocky start but overall good experience.

Dwayne told me that my move was close enough that they could do same day/next day delivery, because of my varied work schedule that was ideal for me. When the men came to pick my things my things up, they said that delivery would be 3-21 days, next day was not an option and shouldn't have been offered. However, after this "miscommunication", things went smoothly. My stuff was delivered five days later, but they worked around my work schedule and were very efficient with the unloading.

Long-distance move from California to Texas

Great Start - Failure at The End.

I relocated from California to Texas (Houston).  The salesman was ok, he mostly worked with my Fiance.  The guys that picked up the funiture were prompt (although they came a day early and that was inconvient), they were professional, and they seemed to take care with my items.  I was not aware that once my items arrived to Houston, that they would be dropped in a warehouse, (new matresses were dirty and uncovered - I was praying not to have bedbugs), several items broken, they lost pieces to my very costly end tables, they were dirty, I could go on and on.  I got scratches on items, etc.  I did not get the extra insurance because my Fiance was very impressed with Dwayne the sales person, who promised him that he would make sure our experience was done in excellence.  I would only use them if I could get the same people who pick it up, to deliver, and not be dropped in a warehouse.  I was livid over my broken items.

Service.

Exactly as all others review. They quote one rate then double it and then add more when they pick up.  They make promises and then never keep.  Since I still don't have my furniture I can't attest to the condition.  However, they said truck was loading.  When I followed up they told me truck was loading.  This went on for weeks.  Finally they said truck was loaded and would be here on a Friday or Saturday.  This never happened.  At this point I'm getting no service and considering legal action. My only suggestion is "do you homework".  "Look at their reviews"  and "then don't use them" My mistake for not researching.  .

Worst Movers in the Business.

If you want to hear nice promises how American Knight Movers take care of your move call them. But if you really want to know what they are really good at read on. They will give you best quotes and promises to get business. Then they will break and damage all your furnitures and deliver them at their convinience. Their delivery department have the most rude talking people one can imagine. They will ask you to send your claims to one of their settlement agencey who work for them favourably to pay 15 bucks for damaging your top class dinner table and breaking your vanity mirror 5 bucks etc. Never recommend these guys for any moving jobs.

Never, never, never again.

Lies and misinformation from pickup to delivery.  Yes they were within their contractual time period but to tell me twice my things were loaded on a truck only to find out a couple days later that it was still in the NJ warehouse.  Why should a shipment take over 2 weeks to even leave the warehouse?  Their website says '2 days delivery anywhere in the US'.  That must mean 2 days to the warehouse where it will languish until they find someone going your way!  I understand that things happen but the bad customer service is unacceptable.

Do NOT Hire.

Several items damaged, damage hidden intentionally until after movers left (delivery). Containers were broken into during transit, some items were missing. Most noteable were the attempted break-in of a storage bin containing empty prescription bottles (I use them to store springs and screws) and the bookshelf. The shelving unit was moved intact, delivered as a whole unit, and somewhere along the way the mover disassembled it *after* dropping it off in an attempt to obfuscate damage to the unit that occurred somewhere along the way. Now I'm left with several loose pieces of wood (split on the ends) and missing hardware. Some small items were taken from several containers in transit. They damaged a desk *they* custom-packed, furniture that they packed, an LCD monitor in its original packaging and an exercise bike they packed, among other things. I'm still compiling my complaint with the BBB and DoT against this company, as well as my insurance claim. .

Long-distance move from Connecticut to Texas

Total loss of Shipment! We lost nearly $30,000.

On Aug 3d, 2013, we hired a company called All Inclusive Moving based in Newark, NJ to move all our belongings from CT to TX. All Inclusive subcontracted the work to American Knights for the move. On Aug 9th, American Knights lost my entire shipment to a fire in Braxton County, WA. Supposedly the trailer caught fire (No other vehicle was involved in the incident). My moving company called me and told me that it was a total loss. The police in Braxton county said that 9 other families also had their belongings on the trailer.
It's been 23 days since the incident and so far American Knights has not bothered to contact me about the incident, let alone apologize. In fact, when I called them, they asked me not to call them and talk to my moving company (All Inclusive) instead. My moving company says it's not their fault and the American Knigts are responsible.
How can a trailer simply catch fire? Were they moving industrial chemicals with our residential shipment? Was the trailer jam packed with stuff from 9 families? We don't know. The driver made no effort to salvage any thing. We had fire safe boxes in our shipment with original documents. Maybe that would have survived.
Our loss in the incident was about $30K. We didn't have full value coverage, so the movers insurance will only pay us about 60 cents a pound (or $4K), leaving us with a loss of $26K. In addition to all our furniture, clothes and original documents, we also lost pictures and vidoes of our weddings and of our kids.
I'm writing this review under my real name and this is a real story.

Long-distance move from Michigan to North Carolina

Do Not Hire!!

Do NOT hire this company!!  Ok, I was that person that read the reviews and thought to myself, "the only people that write in are the disgruntled few that have bad experiences and the exception, not the norm." I spoke with Dwayne on the phone and he convinced me that they cleaned up the company and that my experience would be different from those who authored the less than stellar reviews. I took the chance and went with American Knights for my move from Detroit, MI to Charlotte, NC.    I definitely learned the hard way to trust the complete strangers that take the time to write reviews and they are really just like me and you. Please take this review and trust it to be your warning.   Dwayne, the agent appointed to be my customer service rep, quoted me a price of $1262. We went through the inventory and attempted to list everything that I had to move. I voiced my concern about missing something and how that would effect the cost. He assured me that missing one or two things would not be a big deal, but missing several would increase the cost. Ok, I was fine with that.    On the day of the move, they went to my house. The movers were rude to my mother, asking for water, access to the house to charge their cell phones, and took FOREVER loading the truck. During the loading process, one of the drivers realized that an item that was in the truck already from their previous stop was broken. In an effort to hide the broken piece, he asked to place it in my mother's garbage.    As the movers added up additional items to be moved, my cost went from $1262 to $1500. Then they said they needed to charge me for more packing materials. Then more boxes. Then truck space. When I became very concerned, he said that the cost would not go over an additional $400! He came back an hour later and quoted me at $3100 but was going to "take care of me" and only charge me $2000! With no other choice, I agreed.    Two days later, I called to check on the status of my stuff. Spoke with Dwayne again who said he needed to transfer me to Rosa the transportation person to see where the truck was on the route. Rosa said she could not find my truck and would get back to me. Never heard back from her. I called her back a few hours later and she still couldn't find the truck and said she would call me. Never heard from her. I called the next day. Still nothing. So now my stuff is missing. This went on for 10 days until I got a call from the driver. He said he was not sure why Rosa couldn't find him and said that they would be at my apartment on the 13th day. 13 days! I started my new job with no furniture or clothes because they "could not get a truck to deliver my stuff".   Day 13: Movers arrive. As they go to reassemble my stuff, they realize my desk is broken and cannot be put back together. They also broke my night stand lamps and it wasn't until I went to go use it that I realized that my suitcase fill with random last minute stuff, was completely missing. Still have no idea where it is to this day.    The President of the company, Kobi called to apologize. He was full of excuses as to why they couldn't get it together. His response, "This isn't like a pizza delivery you know". he took $300 off my bill but now I have a broken desk, two broken lamps, and a missing suitcase full of stuff. This all realized after they collected payment. Oh, and don't forget the 5% credit card processing fee they tried to charge me!    Once they got their money, that was the last I heard from them. I had to contact an outside claims company to file my claim. Nothing guaranteed and it can take up to 12 weeks to process.    Bottom line..DONT DO IT!! Horrible company! .

Long-distance move from Ohio to Arizona

Loss and damages.

I had things damaged that belonged to my late husband and my late mother plus a few things that were collectable and sentimentable. I am through trying to deal with this company. To be offered what they did offer is an insult to me. I could not even get enough to even fix or replace items. Legs to a cherry end table still not found. There are quite a few things I have yet to find. I know they went on the truck, which was the largest they have and a partial load on another truck. But if you have glass shelves that are 1/4 inch thick and they wrap it in a moving blanket and the glass is broken then I don't think it matters who packed it. Throwing a box of statues that my late husband collected and the man missed the catch it doesn't matter who packed it, they were all broken. Table that should not have been damaged are broken not sure they could even be repaired, one was my late Mother's. This company does not stand behind their men who loads and unloads personal items for a move. I am through dealing with them and have started a campaign against them. Thanks for nothing, even though it cost me a mint to move.

Stay Away..don't Use These Movers.

First of all I hired Major Van Lines and this is the company that came to our storage shed for pick up. I was told by MVL that they are the same company. If I had know that I would not have hired them because American Knights had AWFUL reviews. So from the get go I was deceived by Sarah at the company. I was told there would be professional packers to load our things out of our storage shed. That was such a lie. The driver showed up with 1 person to help and he had just answered a craigslist ad and told my husband he had never loaded a truck before!! I called and talked to the manager and that was a joke. Couldn't understand anything he said and I just got more lies. He promised he had more "professional " movers coming to help. 2 more guys showered up in sherwin williams shirts covered in paint to load our stuff. Needless to say it was the biggest joke and nothing like we were told. My husband had to watch every thing they did and he helped load hoping to help keep our things from getting damaged. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. So unprofessional and NOT what I paid for. Every piece of our furniture had scratches and some are pretty bad just from the lack of knowing how to pack the proper way. My poor stainless steel trash can looked Like it had been thrown into traffic!! I just pray when I open all my boxes my things are ok because my stuff was put back in another storage so I won't know for awhile. The worst part was just being totally lied to and deceived by the company and after many calls to them they just stopped answering my calls because they know im very unhappy with them. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Such a rip off and nothing professional about them.

Professionalism.

I have moved my 3 bed room apartment house hold items from Memphis to Charlotte, NC. The guys who picked up and delivered were very professional and honest. Bycycle seat was ripped; and couple of very minor breakups. I wouldn't make it as big. Packed, unpacked, very good behavior and would recommend this company. Thanks you American Knights; and thanks to Delta Vanlines who subcontracted them.

Item damaged and over charged.

One of the item (TV Stand) was damaged and also during the time of delivery I was over charged for item delivery to my house which is next to the street. This charge was never discussed in the initial conversation. I am extremely dissatisfied with service. Get what you pay for.

I won't say anything bad. I do have some recommendations. They do have a great price for the quote I received. Once the movers showed up they charged me more. Imagine trying to refuse with no option as you have a move out date. I was a hostage to the situation. During the quote I listed in detail all items. Drivers were late, did not have room on their truck and had to finish two days later. I wish I would have bought the upgraded insurance. Many things were lost and damaged. They did not pay out the $/lb in the contract claiming cosmetic damage is not covered. Imagine furniture that has gashes in it. Not covered at full rate due to it just being cosmetic. Also they admitted to losing items on the phone but did not pay for them since I did not personally state it on the delivery receipt. The driver would not wait for me to check every item. I received the service I paid for. I will spend more in the future.

Stolen Items.

Worst moving company.  They seem nice, but your stuff is stolen and damaged.  Rude and they lie over the phone.  We have been trying to retrive our stolen items and missing items for over a year.  We have pictures, voicemails and contracts to prove they are a complete fraud. We moved from New york to California and not one item was damaged in the move.  Mark is a total joke as well.  Seems like a nice guy.  Great con man.

Be Aware Of This Moving Company!!

This company lost and damaged my personal moving items. I moved from Columbus, OH to Desoto, TX. When my goods were delivered, I noticed several large bins (8) missing with clothing for one adult and two children, kitchen and bathroom items, wash towels, comforters and sheets, and three boxes with three lamp shades. The movers brought a box from parts to a huge kitchen table, in which I had to inform them the items did not belong to me. That should have been a clue to me that I may have missing items. I also noticed damaged items: headboard mirror to my king size bed cracked, dining room table with several noticeable scratches (5) down the top of the table, and a crack in my large glass sofa table. I called the company and informed them of the above. I was informed that this company have warehouses filled with lost items, but I was not given the location of the warehouse. I was informed to file a claim. I filed a claim, downloaded pictures of damaged items and describe the items lost and damaged and sent to claims office. They received the claim on 8/4/16 and reviewed it on 8/9/16. In November after complaining to the company about such slow progress on my claim, they found and delivered five worn boxes mixed with clothes, pots and pans. I had to buy clothes for myself and three grandchildren. Some of the items did not belong to me! I told them that, and they did nothing. I was not all my items neither. December 1st they offered me $60.00 for my entire lost and damage property, and ordeal!. Be careful with this company, in fact, RUN.

I waited almost a month for my things to arrive here in Seaside Ca. from Texas. When the truck got here they had left my big screens washer and dryer ref. and other boxes. They were great.

I am surprised by the negative reviews here. Yelp had all positive reviews for 2016, so I took a chance. The quote was in line with other companies I spoke with and I liked they had their own trucks. My move date changed a couple of times during the scheduling process, and that didn't frazzle anyone at American Knights. The movers were very professional and courteous. The 2nd set of movers in NYC were the same. Nothing was broken and it was a very simple process. Do be very exact in what you are moving as you are charged by cubic foot. They can determine the general cubic feet of furniture, but I knew exactly how many boxes I had. It adds up quicker than you think.

Long-distance move from Louisiana to Kansas

Terrible.

Absolutely terrible. The movers themselves were wonderful, super nice, and helpful. Customer service, not so much. I moved from Louisiana to Kansas and had originally booked other movers (not to be named), something didn't sit right, so I called the other moving company I was looking at, American Knight Moving. I talked it through with their relocation specialist and ultimately decided to go with American Knights, which now, I consider a mistake.

I needed my stuff picked up by the end of the year, as I was leaving Jan 1. They wanted a 2 day window, so I said either the 29th or 30th of December would be fine. I had packed everything, all they needed to do was load the truck. They decided they wanted to come on the 30th (Friday). The movers were supposed to be there at 10am and by 11am, I had heard nothing, so I decided the call the driver, he was in shock that the company hadn't called me to let me know that his truck had broken down. I ended up having to call the company to figure out what was going on. They were giving me NO updates. I completely understand that things happen, but not keeping the customer in mind and letting the customer know what's going on is not good service. I ended up having to take the initiative and call several people myself. After several voicemails, I finally got a hold of someone and they told me they were working on it. A few hours later, I still had heard nothing, so I called again and I hear someone in the background obviously really annoyed that I called yell "TELL HER WE’RE STILL WORKING ON IT!" The movers finally got there at 5:30PM and ended up charging me $150 more because they had to wrap a glass table top (I put that I had it in my inventory and I don't know why that wasn't included in my quote, but by that time I was just ready to get my stuff picked up.) They tried to charge me to wrap my TV, too, but I had shown them the company had waived that for me.

I wanted to get a window for delivery, so the following Monday I called and the Company told me that the truck was scheduled to leave sometime later that week and that my stuff would probably be there that weekend. I heard nothing all week and on Friday I called and someone else told me that no delivery date had been set. I realized that Kansas had had some bad weather, so maybe the weather was why they hadn’t left? I can’t honestly say why they didn’t leave because no one from the company let me know what was going on. At that point, I realized that every time I called, it seemed as if they whoever I talked to would say whatever they thought I wanted to hear to get me to shut up and get off the phone, so I switched to email (that way I had proof that what they were saying and what they were doing were two very different things).

On January 11th - 12 days after my stuff was picked up, I still had NO idea when my stuff was going to be delivered, so I emailed my relocation specialist and expressed my frustration with not being kept in the loop. Not having any of my stuff really is a big deal and I felt like I had a right to know where my stuff was and when I would get it back. Within 30 minutes, someone else-not the relo specialiast- emailed me back and told me how sorry she was for my experience and admitted that the company should have kept me in the loop, etc. She then told me that the driver was leaving that afternoon, and as soon as he left, she would send me an email with his name and contact information. My projected delivery was to take place on Friday. The next day -Thursday- (not to my surprise) I still hadn’t heard anything, so I sent another email asking for his contact information and asking if he had left yet. She said “not just yet. This afternoon.” So I questioned her and said I had thought that the driver was leaving the day before (because that’s what she said) and she quickly replied that she was trying to finish everything up and would let me know when he left. 7 hours go by and I still hadn’t heard anything. I needed to know if I still needed Friday off, etc., so I emailed her again and told her that I knew she said she was working on it, but that this was a prime example of why I was frustrated. I asked her again why she said the truck was leaving on Wednesday, and then Thursday late afternoon the truck still hadn’t left. I told her that I was just trying to understand why what I was being told wasn’t happening. I, then, asked for her supervisor’s information. I told her that I knew it wasn’t her that was causing a problem, but I really felt like it needed to be raised higher up. No response.

She started a new email chain to let me know that the driver had left and my projected delivery was now Sunday. Ultimately, the driver got here Saturday and, like I said at the very beginning, he was VERY nice and conscious of my property. He did end up charging me another $150 more for long distance carry (something that I still question), and when I called the company to get a second opinion, no answer (of course). I knew he was just the messenger, so I just paid the extra $150 figuring I could try to fight the extra money I was charged once I got my stuff off that truck. I had one item missing and two items broken, but overall, my stuff was here in one piece, it was just the fight to get it here that was the problem.

I really would not recommend using this company unless you like complete unresponsiveness and not knowing when you will get your stuff. If it was possible to give them less than 1 star, I would.

Excellent cross-state move.

I hired American Knights Movers when I needed to move from Houston to North Texas. The other quotes I'd gotten were astoundingly high - Kobi, the American Knights estimator, was the only one to give me a decent price on the move. The whole process was seamless. The movers were polite, professional, and made it a painless process. I highly recommend this company.

HIgh Qualified Team.

American Knights Moving provided excellent and professional service. From the time I reached out to them, they could not have been more helpful. They responded immediately and set up a moving date. The employees who arrived promptly were extremely courteous. They handled the items to be moved with great care. They went above and beyond what I expected. We had wrapped a mattress for them to move. They took the time to cover it again to be sure it was protected. Every item was carefully moved. And the move was completed in record time. I would definitely use them again and would highly recommend them.
