Long-distance move from Houston, TX to Storrs Mansfield, CT

Moving in multiple stages

I am so happy with how Tanya helped me with a very complicated move. I had to box up everything to sell our home. She helped me understand how things needed to be boxed for safety. Then some things had to go to family in Connecticut, some to storage and some to where we were going to live while we built our forever home in Canyon Lake. Finally getting all these things together to make the move to Canyon Lake. She helped calculate storage costs and how much packaging supplies I would need. And some of this took months to accomplish and is still ongoing.

She always promptly returned all my calls (even when I called multiple times in one day) Without her expertise and advice this whole process would have been too much for me. The movers were prompt and very, very careful with my things. I was even a little worried about some boxes in storage and they came back out to check on them and rearrange them to my satisfaction with no additional cost to me. Service with this company is phenomenal!!!

Long-distance move from New Orleans, LA to Milwaukee, WI

NOT GOOD AND LOTS OF DAMAGE

This is not our first cross-country move, so I tried to go with a reputable mover to avoid the poor experiences we have had in the past. Paid twice as much as our last move, from the same destination. We contracted with International Van Lines (IVL) because they are supposedly the best. I wouldn't know as all they did was refer us off to American Knights.

The issues started when they showed up with a truck barely large enough for our accurately inventoried items. The movers themselves spoke little English which when trying to explain what/how to pack things, is not so ideal. They packed things we asked to discard and vice versa. Took SO long compared to other movers we have used, but I thought it was because they were packing well. Wrong.

Just received our shipment and the boxes look like they were rode over by the truck. Most of our glassware is shattered along with several small kitchen appliances and an antique desk - in pieces. Their liability unless you purchase the EXORBITANT insurance is LAUGHABLE. Almost as much as the move itself. We aren't done unpacking yet and I dread what else they destroyed, clearly no care taken whatsoever. English once again a problem at drop off when trying to explain where to put things.

The only reason this gets 2 stars is I do not blame the guys who did the drop off and one person I dealt with was at least responsive, which is more than I can say for IVL which will be getting a separate poor review.

The moral of my story is, when looking for movers, just go with the cheapest as honestly they are ALL TERRIBLE. They do not care and operate under a whole different standard of basic customer service, timelines and liability.

Long-distance move from Herndon, VA to Floresville, TX

TERRIBLE

I wish I could give this company Negative Stars. From start to finish this move has been rife with incompetence, lies, misdirection, passing of buck, phone calls not returned, not even being able to get through when calling (EVERYTHING goes to a voicemail system to include customer support), binding estimate not even close to actual costs (mine went from approx $17k to $27K).

At the time I contracted with IVL, I had extensive and explicit discussions with Justin in regards to my delivery date expectation. I was told they do not guarantee dates but give a 3 day window. The contracted conversation with their booking specialist was that they would pick up my stuff on 25/26 May in Virginia to be delivered in Texas within the agreed upon window of 17-19 June. (22-24 days should be plenty or so one would think)

However a few minutes after the booking conversation, I received the contract by email and saw the 21 day standard language. I called the booking specialist back and I was assured that as with all contracts this was standard language that was printed on all contracts to safeguard for extenuating circumstances such as natural disaster, truck break-down/accidents etc. but was told the 3 day window (17-19 June) superseded that and I could disregard or so I thought

IVL would then go on to apparently subcontract with American Knights Moving, which I was never advised they would do. Had I know that, I would have NEVER contracted IVL. I went with IVL because they were very highly rated. This must be another industry where you can buy your rating.

Due to the horrendous customer service and blatant lies being told to me at every step of the way, I can say I have spoken to almost every level of management within the company only to get the same terrible treatment and for them to hide behind their lies. Their customer service has been completely inept at their job.

On the day of pack-out American Knights ( which is an absolutely HORRIBLE company ) showed up and my "binding estimate" increased by more than $10k and was told take it or leave it. They know you wont leave it because it most likely too late for you to re-contract with another carrier. So you're stuck and they know - scam artists). I was informed that they (American Knights) does not guarantee delivery dates and the dates I requested for delivery is what they refer to as "first date of availability". At NO TIME prior to 3/4 of my shipment already being loaded on their truck did they communicate that. The driver goes on to state that the "standard language" of 21 days from "1st date of availability" is what they WILL use and that nothing in the contact negotiation discussions will be honored and they WILL tell you to take it up with IVL. Which I did, only to be told they will "make every effort to deliver on your 1st date of availability. There is very little IVL will/can do and you will not be at the complete mercy of American Knights Van lines. [Just for clarity, for example, you ask for your stuff to be delivered 15 June, they can choose whenever the hell they want to deliver it between 15 June and 6 July. They hide behind this crap and must be the only industry that you pays tens of thousands of dollars to and they can do whatever the hell they want and show up whenever the hell they want.]

Then when you call (because they never call you), they will tell you, we will be there tomorrow between 10 and 11. Then 11 comes and goes, you call back only to be told, "oh the driver got mixed up, he wont be there until tomorrow". and so on and so on.

I cannot describe to you just what a nightmare this entire process has been. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT contract with IVL or America Knights.

The absolute worst. My review is -10 stars

They will not meet their contractual obligations and then their customer service representatives will lie to you. It has been 6 weeks since I moved and my items have still not arrived. For the last month I have called them for updates. First they said 14 days, then they guaranteed 21 days. After 21 days my items were not even loaded on to a moving truck. They say they will call with updates but I have had to call them multiple times a day for a month to get any information and most of the time their answer was "I don't know." Personally, if I am going to trust a company with everything I own I expect at least a minimal amount of competence and transparency. I sit here on business day 27 wondering if my items are actually on the way to if I am still being lied to by their customer service department. They have missed 3 arrival dates now that customer service has guaranteed over the phone. Save your money and your sanity and hire anyone else for your move.

Long-distance move from Somerville, TX to Hobbs, NM

Don’t do it!

Where to start…. Have them a complete inventory list, from myself and my husband, just to confirm we weren’t missing anything. We’re told the cost was around $4000, ok that’s fair, we were packing a 3br/3ba house. On moving day, they show up in a truck that was too small. They said they could go get a larger truck but it would cost more. When inventorying our things, my husband and I both told them 40-50 boxes. Apparently that box estimate was for 40-50 medium boxes. At no time were we told about box sizes. So because we had larger boxes and more stuff than we told them (we did not) we basically were railroaded into paying another $2000. We were also never told that it would be 5-10 business days before we got our delivery. The actual movers that did the move were very nice and polite. As of today, we’ve received one phone call back after our many attempts to call about a delivery date. And the one person we have talked to was rude and unprofessional. So we are on business day 12. No furniture, no idea when we will get our things. And no calls or updates. I’m fearful of the state of things when I do actually get my things. This is the most unprofessional, unorganized, piece of sh*t “business” I have ever dealt with and would recommend to anyone looking to use them that they would be better off renting a covered wagon and horses and Oregon Trailing it across the country!

Great job

I recently moved to American Is and had a wonderful experience I found that their prices were very reasonable. They have a great team,Tanya helped me all along the way. I had a damage free move. Everyone was very professional coming in my home and I felt very comfortable. All of my questions were answered before booking and any concerns i had during the move got answered. Would recommend American Knights.

Max and Oleg were incredible

I had to move on short notice. They responded immediately to my request for a quote and were able to schedule my move for the date and time I needed. On the morning of the move, Max texted me and let me know the arrival time (they were on time). Max and Oleg were incredible-they were efficient, friendly, and careful with the items. They went above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. I would definitely recommend them and hire them again.

Terrible for cross country moves

I see a lot of positive reviews for in-state TX moves but my experience with American Knights has been awful. They are supposed to be moving my home cross country, with an expected arrival of 14-21 days. It has been 18 days and my stuff is still sitting in a warehouse in Houston.

They can give me no estimate when my boxes will arrive and only state that they have until October 4th based on the contract which uses “business days” although I was told the timeframe was in calendar days.

American Knights Moving was Awesome

Excellent moving job by the team Nicholos, Sam, Gabit, Rus, Koyla. Very professional and polite/respectful. They were detailed on labeling our boxes and helpful in putting items where we wanted them in the new house. They figured out how to get things packed well and the move was flawless. Plus American Knights Moving was flexible with our move date as it needed to be pushed out a few times. Thanks!!!

Long-distance move from Cedar Park, TX to Falmouth, ME

Worst moving company ever

We are having a terrible experience with this company. Short version - We were quoted a cost, told the cost would be 9k, jacked the price up 25% when picking up for THE SAME ITEMS, and failed to meet the 21 business day window.

Long version - Prior to the company picking up the items, we were quoted $9k based on what was itemized.

Issue #1 - When the movers came to pick the items up (Nov 14th) they stated the items were too big, and we needed to pay an additional $3k (25% more). These were the same things that were itemized and we do not own overly bulky furniture. Because we were moving the next day, we had no choice but to pay them more.

Issue #2 - We were told we would receive our items within 21 business days. While this wasn’t ideal (sleeping on air mattresses, eating while sitting on the floor, etc.) we understood and agreed to the terms, thinking the 21 business days (30 total days including Thanksgiving) would be a worst case scenario. I reached out to American Knights (outsourced company) each week to find out the status.

Between November 21st and December, I was repeatedly be told that the items are not on the truck yet but would be informed when they are.

On December 13th, I was told they were putting our items on the truck and would call us when they are on the road. I informed them that they are cutting it close to the deadline and we need our items sooner than later.

On December 14th, I contacted them as I hadn’t heard from them and they stated they were still putting our items on the truck, but would be leaving shortly. I reminded them that they are cutting it close in missing the deadline. They assured me that the delivery will be before the deadline and to expect it by Sunday (Dec 18th).

Today, the driver contacted my wife and stated they would be there by Wednesday, December 21st. This would be the last day of the period and any delays would put them past the allotted period. Three hours later, they notified my wife that they now won’t get there until Friday, December 23rd, past the period.

Issue 3 - Compensation.

Since our family has been eating on a floor and sleeping on air mattresses while paying $12k and they missed the deadline, I expected a discount on the service. Here is what I was offered… $25 PER DAY! So not receding my items until at least 45 days from pickup and a bait and switch on the price equates to less than 1% of the purchase in compensation. There is no incentive for them to follow the contract.

WORST COMPANY EVER!

Long-distance move from Biloxi, MS to Huntsville, AL

Terrible Company

This company is almost completely terrible. From the beginning, the movers sent to pack were late, complained about the number of house hold goods, and brought too small a truck, even after telling us it would be a semi-tractor trailer; it was a box truck. The truck was beat and looked like they just purchased it from a junkyard. Packers complained about the FREE pizza we bought for their dinner (they wanted hamburgers). They could not fit all of our goods into the truck, had to go UNPACK it into a storage location, and then return the next day. They were over an hour late the next morning. Since it was over a "holiday" weekend, (Good Friday, REALLY???) the American Knights home office closed for three days and we eventually could not get a delivery date for over a week and a half. When we FINALLY got someone one the phone, the following Monday, Claudia C., she began to argue that they were entitled to Friday off. We could not have cared any less and this idiot of a woman, raised her voice, got indignant, argued, and hung up. Top notch customer service. We finally had to call from a BLOCKED number to get someone to answer the phone and were given platitudes and BS excuses for Claudia's behavior by another employee. Unprofessional does not begin to quantify this company. Delivery, by almost an entirely different crew, was relatively OK, OVER two days, as ONCE AGAIN too small of a truck and they had to pack it twice from a storage location. Numerous items damaged from utter careless and unprofessional packing done by the first crew. Note, we again bought them dinner, pizza, when it got late; the one mover present, who was also a prior packer, just took a pizza all to himself without asking or saying a word. It should be noted the delivery crew chief was very professional and respectful; literally the only positive working with this company. Before using this company, consider pouring kerosene over your household items and set them alight. Dealing with an arson investigation and insurance fraud charges will probably be a better experience.

Do not do an interstate move with them!

Go to BBB to see reviews if you are doing an interstate move! I was quoted a 7 day delivery that turned into a 14 das My stuff was picked up on 12.15.2023 and it is now 1.03.2024. Now I am being told 21 business days but I am high priority. High priority to who? I have no bed or anything to cook with! My life is in disarray and may continue for another 2 plus week like this. Also upon pickup they placed tape directly on my furniture and literally dragged my furniture down the stairs which I said do not do that as it will damage my furniture. Clearly their movers are not professional and across state lines takes a month or longer to deliver.

American Knights subcontracted by International Van Lines

Do not use American Knights nor International Van Lines if you value your belongings. This company was subcontracted by IVL without our knowledge. It was an in state move with 3 months of what was supposed to be climate controlled storage. Twenty eight pieces of furniture were delivered damaged in transit and/or storage. Items were water damaged, heat damaged, functionally damaged, scratched, torn or totally destroyed. The claims process took two months and resulted in a payment offer of $404 based on $.60 per pound per item. It's going to cost me in the neighborhood of $10,000 to repair or replace the damaged items.
