Fraudulent company.

Hi Cheryl,

I am shocked at your company's behavior. You mentioning more than once, "I bet you don't have a written quote". I have a witness when your employee provided a quote of $1000 to $1500. Never was there a mention of the costs going beyond the $1500 quote. He also explained the truck would be going back to the Victoria headquarters after dropping the oven off, not back to Vancouver.

I am baffled to see two ferry trips being charged at a staggering 568 dollars. Additionally, the entire move was so poorly planned. Your dispatch was not even aware of the current ferry schedule for May, I provided them with that information the day of the move.

Prior to booking with 2 Burley Men, I explored a number of quotes and 2 Burley Men came in on what I thought was affordable at $1500 at the higher side of the quote. I don't have any additional funds to cover this substantial margin of error of $882.48. Because of the vagueness of his quote, the eventual figure being 37% above the original quote, it is my view the estimator should be held to that original figure. The estimator is baiting potential customers with low estimates and switching the end figure with hidden costs such as additional ferry costs (not communicated) and added travel time. This is fraud where a business offers low quotes on a price for a service attempting to draw the customer into choosing them.

I am a local business owner in Victoria and I am absolutely appalled by these sleazy business tactics. The fact that you asked me again and again if we have a written quote is only evidence that you are conducting a bait and switch scheme.

I am not happy with this. I trust you will honor the $1500 quote you provided me and accept the check I will be providing for the agreed upon cost.

Regards,

Ryan.

2 Burley Men Moving Ltd.

2 Burley Men damaged our furniture, household goods and art in the summer 2019 in a move from Calgary to Vancouver Island. They would not pay the damages of $6,000 so we took them to court in Nanaimo and, after a settlement conference in February 2020, we received Judge Blake's written statement ordering 2 Burley Men to immediately pay us $3000. Scott Burley assured the judge he would pay the judgement the next day and did not. With the courts closed for Covid, he is evading payment. It is now May 29 and still no payment. Mr. Burley has now been ordered to attend a Summons To A Payment Hearing in September, 2020 in the same court in Nanaimo. The Summons requires Mr. Burley to give us his bank account numbers and vehicle VIN numbers so that we can take the next step in this difficult process.

Worst Move Ever! Feedback from 2BM move; Kelowna, August 28, 2020.

A week prior to our planned move, we arranged for 2BM to move furniture & personal items we packed from our house into 2, 20x8' containers in our driveway, scheduled for 1:00 PM Thursday Aug 27.

We got a call around 12:30 PM on Aug 27, saying they could not come, due to delay with previous job, broken truck, etc.. but would be at our home the next morning at 08:00 am.

Next morning, the first guy, Ryan, showed up around 08:30, on his own, no other helper or sometime to oversee the move. Ryan was pleasant, seemed to know what he was doing, and got to work.

Shortly before 09:00 the boss, Mike, drops off a scraggly, hungover or stoned looking guy named Victor, who moved some of his belongings (including a crack pipe) into Ryan's car, picked up a couple of things, was maybe on-site for 15 minutes, then he left! Never saw him again!

We called Mike several times to tell him this was unacceptable, but did not hear back from him.

Instead, Mike drops off another young scraggly skinny guy (from a homeless shelter) who was stoned on something, and a very large mid-50's guy (from one of the Missions).

We let the skinny guy know that he was unfit to work, because he was impaired (but not likely to be able to lift anything weighing more than 20 lbs anyways), and called Mike to pick him up.

Meanwhile Ryan is busily working away, and my husband Jeff hops in to start helping, as the larger guy (George) was huffing & puffing, wheezing, and we thought was going to have a heart attack! Seriously! After 1 1/2 hrs, we had him sit down in the shade, gave him some water, and called Mike to take him away.

Mike agreed to come back and help, and by the time he did, it was 1:00 PM, with the biggest of our furniture items left to move into the containers. Fortunately one of the women cleaning our home called her boyfriend and arranged for him and his friend to come in and help. Thank goodness, because there is no way we could have got it done by the end of the day.

We finally got everything loaded around 3:30 PM, and let everyone go.

2 days later, Sunday Aug 30) we decided to open the containers to make sure everything was secured, before the moving truck picked them up the next day (Monday Aug 31).

It was a complete nightmare! Stuff was literally thrown in anywhere -- even found two boxes of heavy, cement, lawn figurines on top of a glass entertainment table clearly marked as such, with FRAGILE written on top.

The second of the 2 containers might have been half fully utilized -- clearly not loaded by professionals!

We spent several hours re-arranging the mess, and then secured anything that was at risk of toppling over with various straps, etc..

Bottom line: this was the absolute worst moving experience we have ever had, and 2BM completely failed to provide the service they promised. The entire process was a complete shambles, and 2BM should be embarrassed, apologize to us, and refund whatever we paid them -- as whatever it was was way too much.

We will never, ever, recommend 2 Burley Men, and will share our experience with others on social media.

Awesome team!

I was moving items to prepare for an estate sale gathering furniture from 4 locations. Jeremy, Cory, , Daniel and Anthony were amazing. Very professional, efficient and handled antiques with great care. They were also very respectful to my elderly father who was struggling with the whole process of letting go.

Fair pricing and efficienct. I will definitely use them again for future moving needs.

Move.

This is the second time we've used 2 Burley Men and both times have been awesome!! The first move there was a problem with their staffing but the company contacted us first thing in the morning and told us exactly what was happening. Even though they were short staffed that day they still showed up and were friendly, efficient, and had the move done in record time with no breakages.

The second move we had an issue the morning of the move and had to call 2 Burley Men to reschedule our time to the next morning and they did with no complaints and no hassles! That move was also done quickly and efficiently.

Both times the movers were professional, respectful, friendly and worked really hard! We would definitely recommend this company to everyone and we will be calling them for our next move!

Thank you 2 Burley Men for the great experience!!

Unreliable.

We hired these guys to do a move for us from Kamloops to Victoria. We ended up cancelling the day before we had to give up possession of our house to the new owners because they kept delaying our move. They had problems with their truck but it seemed like we were getting the short end of the stick and were left screwed! They delayed our move 3 times until they finally found a time that worked for them but would have been done AFTER possession for us.. We didn’t trust them again when they said they would get it done, so we cancelled and ended up moving everything ourselves.. a total NIGHTMARE!! Completely unreliable, we would never recommend them.

Cancelled on us twice, then wouldn’t return my calls.

A poor experience and I’d strongly recommend others to not use this company. They made me miss 2 days of work while I waited for them to arrive to 2 different scheduled drop offs, before cancelling hours after the set arrival time. Finally on the third attempt they delivered my stuff. Then when I called to complain Earl and Scott proceeded to not call me back after multiple phone calls. Poor communication, poor service, very unprofessional.

2 Burley Men -Comox to Black Creek.

These guys Ian & Roy were great! They were courteous and friendly. It was a small move and only a 30 minute drive to the destination. They were very careful and considerate with the packing, protecting, loading & unloading of my possessions. They even set up my bed on the other end. I would definitely recommend using this company again. Overall I was pleased with their promptness and work ethic. I was somewhat disappointed in the final bill as it was more than the quoted price for the job. “ It is what it is” nothing got broken and you did an awesome job! Thanks!

Absolutely awful. You have been warned!

We are writing to you in response to the move we had on Sept 29,2020.

We were quoted that it would cost around $2100 for a move of a 2100 square foot house - because I knew we had a lot of items to move I phoned them the week of our move to confirm with them that we had a “house full of furniture as well as a garage.”

We were rather concerned that nobody came to do an actual estimate of our belongings but we figured that they must know what you were doing.

When the first team of movers arrived, they walked through the house, declared that we had “a lot of stuff” and it was “really big” and then drove away. We received a phone call from your office, moments later, saying that we weren’t ready to move and so the movers were going elsewhere. We tried to explain that we had friends/family coming later in the day to move the items that “weren’t packed yet” because we wanted extra care taken with them, but we were simply told that new movers would come for 1:00.

We then received phone calls explaining that the movers would be there a little late - and then at 2:30 were told they were finally on their way. Ultimately they didn’t arrive until around 3:00. This was extremely frustrating because it meant that the friends/family we had lined up to help us at 4:00 were now “in the way” of the movers. As well, our cleaner who had been asked to come at 4:00 was not able to start her job as very little had actually been moved by 4:00. She ended up working until late in the night to get the cleaning done, as the movers were there until quite late.

Some of the new team of movers did not behave in a professional manner - one was shaking our shelving units (and was actually reprimanded by another mover and told to “act his age”), swearing, playing inappropriate music, speaking rudely to our friends, etc.

Somebody who appeared to be more in charge eventually came, and admitted that there weren’t enough movers for this job and that we wouldn’t be charged any more for the extra hassle/inconvenience of not having things moved in time.

But we were charged $4200- more than two other companies quoted us.

Whatever you do, do not choose these guys. You clearly get what you pay for. Although in our case, we paid double.

My move.

The slowest most unorganized move I’ve done in my life. I had everything ready and organized before they came.Would of been better off doing it with a friend and renting a truck. What should of taken5 hours took 9 probably longer if I didn’t help myself. Watched them throw my possessions in the storage locker. Asked them to use a dolly to move my marble statue which was ignored and broke in two when they moved it from the truck to my unit. Never use them again. Disgusted.

2 Burley Men moved my worldly possessions without a hitch or hiccup. They communicated with me in every step of the process and left nothing to guess work. They were very careful and considerate and conducted themselves professionally and respectfully.

This is the third (3) move for me with 2 Burley Men. I have no hesitation in recommending them to family members and friends.

Local Move.

We recently had Ian and Sylvain from 2 Burley Men move household goods for us from upper Vancouver Island to Campbell River. Everything went well, they kept in touch with us leading up to the moving date so we were able to coordinate a meet with them where the household goods were located. The move was efficient without any damage to the goods and was within the estimate provided. We would hire this company again should further moves be required.

Would give 0 stars if I could.

I would give 0 stars if I could. I booked specific dates and we are now 48 hours past the scheduled move date with no communication from the driver (Ryan) or the manager (Earl) despite my consistent efforts to contact them. I’ve left messages, called multiple times, and I’ve gotten one phone call that said “maybe tomorrow. We won’t get there tonight.” for the second night in a row. They pushed me off 4 times, and were not apologetic in the slightest. I would highly advise against scheduling this company if you trust your move to go smoothly. For $2100 I expected a lot better and was severely disappointed, leaving me scrambling for a big move. They have no regard or respect for other peoples time. Pathetic.

Both the movers and company/manager were very unprofessional

They quoted 8-10 hours for the move, it ended up taking over 14.5 hours with me helping them all throughout the day and the two movers were too tired/weak to finish the move and ended up leaving a majority of our boxes and furniture in the garage of our new home. I had to hire a Uhaul and get some friends the next day to finish the move. They also somehow managed to damage our dining table, sofa, love seat, two dressers, bed frame, coffee, baby dresser/changing station and another table of his. They also damaged our house by taking chunks out of the wall and scratching our floors.

The two guys who were helping with the move literally yelled and swore at each other throughout the day in front of us because one of them was new/incompetent, and at the end of the day when we tried to negotiate with their manager about all the damage he threatened us legally over the phone demanding we pay for the unfinished job.

After filing a claim to recover some of the cost for damages, they quoted a formula on how they came to the number since we weren't happy with the amount ($239 for damage on about $10,000 worth of different furniture pieces) which was based on the volume of contents to fill the truck. When I went and measured the furniture pieces and used their same formula to calculate the number it worked out to around $1800. All of a suddenthey backtracked and essentially said they've made their mind on the amount they'll pay and that the formula was not relevant because all the furniture was still functional and the damage was "minor".

Don't use these guys if you value your possessions. They don't care about your stuff and won't compensate you fairly if anything is damaged.

We were very impressed with service in our very challenging move

These guys are amazing! Our challenging move didn’t cause them any concern!

We were moving offices from Downtown Vancouver and Victoria out to Port Coquitlam to a location with stairs, no elevator! They did not fail us! They figured out what we needed and did it.

As there was an unforeseen mechanical issue in the leg of the move from Victoria to Vancouver the guys were unable to get on the ferry in time to meet their promised delivery in PoCo, but they did promise 8 a.m. the next morning.

In order to achieve that they travelled to Vancouver that night and were indeed at our new address as promised.

All of that was achieved in spite of a big storm that caused ferry cancellations on that route.

Rates were excellent and everyone we encountered along the way in setting this up and getting it done was very friendly, very helpful and very efficient.

We will all be highly recommending 2 Burley Men for anyone who has a move to make.

WELL DONE, 2 BURLEY MEN!

Great experience

Great experience. They reached out right away when I submitted an enquiry about moving, they called me the day before my move to confirm the time and on the day of the move the guys were running about 15 min behind because of a traffic accident and they called to let me know.  Movers were friendly, professional, and moved all my things quickily. They also offered to assemble and set up my couch.

Overall a very pleasant experience and made my move easy and stress free. Would totally recommend!!

December 21, 2020 move from Vancouver to Victoria

On December 21, 2020 your two movers, Ken R. and Amit did a wonderful job of moving us from Vancouver to Oak Bay. It was a rainy, miserable day but Ken and Amit did not stop for a minute. Unprofessional

Unfortunately I didn’t have a good experience from 2 Burley Men for my move from Alberta to a small town in BC and would not recommend this company. The crew was late for both pick up and drop off of my things and did not practice physical distancing or wear masks either time. There was damage to multiple items (cracked framed picture, broken leg on a standing mirror, dirty mattress) and one box was missing - all of which I was told could not be compensated as it was not covered under the protection plan. They also tried to charge $600 instead of their standard $300 for out of jurisdiction fee.

Good job, guys!

Dale, Mo and Steve did a good job with our move. They were on time, they hustled, nothing was got lost or broken. They had good attitudes and they wore masks as per the provincial mandate for Covid 19.

Dale was very clear in setting our expectations and explaining the cost per hour, as well as the option to add another guy for an extra 30$ an hour, which we did do, as it made the move go a lot more quickly. Dale seemed like he had the most experience; he did a good job of leading the team. Mo, Steve and Dale all worked very hard and were friendly and polite. Overall, we were pleased with the service.

Good job, guys!

Sexist Managers, thieves and culpable inaction

TL;DR: Burley Men borrowed pir Dolly for move 10/2020. Took a male to convince them it was missing. 5 phone calls, at least 7 emails and more than 3 months and dolly still hasn’t been returned.

I lent my 4 wheeled furniture dolly to my young friend who was moving from Victoria to into the house of her recently deceased Mother in North Vancouver. The 2 Burley Men movers (Ian and Tony) asked to use the handy dolley pack up in VIctoria. The 2 Burley Men movers caught an earlier ferry than the young couple and they had to get a friend to let the movers in. That friend didn’t know about the dolly. By the time they arrived in North Vancouver, the movers had fully unloaded and left.

The young woman called the 2 Burley Men’s Victoria office a few times to report the missing dolly and each time, the Manager, Kevin was extremely dismissive and didn’t believe her that anything was missing. It was until her Male partner called Kevin on October 10, 2020, that the issue of the missing dolley was taken seriously enough. Kevin told him that he was going to fill out a missing item report. No copy nor file number was given.

October 26th, 2020:

I sent an email outlining all of the above to the contact email on 2burleymen.ca. Cheryl promptly responded asking to send her the waybill and a detailed description of the dolly.

October 27th, 2020

Received an email from Cheryl saying that they found my dolly. “It is in our Courtenay office. It could take a couple of weeks to have it delivered and if that is what you would like please,

provide delivery address. Or if you are wanting to pick it up please, call the office after month end so that someone will be there to assist. “

I obviously didn’t want to drive to Courtenay so I responded right away with my Vancouver details.

November 12, 2020

Sent asking for status.

2 Burley Men - -> (Cheryl CC’d Kevin)

I am checking on the status of delivery .

Cheryl

November 17, 2020

Me: Any update? My patience is wearing thin. I need this back before the end of the month. Please advise.

2 Burley Men:

I am contacting the Courtenay office for an update.I will let you know Cheryl

December 14th, 2020

Ask for an update again, threaten to start online smear campaign

2 Burley Men:

Unfortunately, the Courtenay office does not go to the downtown core on the mainland offend. But they are scheduled to be about 20 minutes for the Pender address on the 21st of December. The dolley will be delivered at that time.

Thank you

Cheryl

As of this review, I haven’t heard anything. The fact that a dolly is missing, something essential to a moving company and their complete lack of culpability is so frustrating. I have no doubt they have used it everyday since they stole.

The fact of the matter is, I need it for my work. Which due to covid has been sparse to say the least. However, things are picking up and I am starting to get gigs. Now I have to buy a new one, with money I don’t have. All thanks to thieves at 2 Burley Men.

Very big mistake using these people. No professionalism whatsoever no matter who we tried to talk to. Movers not professionals, but kids that were hired by a labor company?
