Move from Nanaimo to Calgary

Very satisfied with the move from Nanaimo to Calgary. Both crews were experienced ,courteous, and worked hard.No damage at all,and they also dismantled/rejoined some of our heavier furniture where neccessary. The cost-which included one week of storage- was lower than we expected.

If you have a full house move,I would strongly recommend using their packing service. It is a reasonable extra cost but in view of the work and stress it saves,it’s worth every dollar!!

Inexperienced and careless

Two movers dropped and damaged several carts after watching them endlessly not secure, wrap and or secure in any way. The so called insurance paid $29.67 Canada dollars when they did over $600 damaged. I will never use this company ever again

Last minute help

I called for a last minute move from the Sunshine Coast to the Island, after my rental truck fell through. 2BurleyMenMovers were able to accommodate me and the total was less $$ than my local mover quoted. The guys were very pleasant and hardworking. My stuff was not damaged. They arrived at both locations on time. I would highly recommend this company.

Shady at best.

STAY AWAY! Not BBB Accredited for a reason!

They underestimate and overcharge. The majority of the movers will smoke on your property and leave the butts on your driveway.

No face masks or gloves worn.

The long haul manager E*** is rude, condescending and does not care about your lost and broken items (which there will be plenty).

Even when you go through their 'claims department', the lady C***** will not call you back.

Also their $50,000 insurance policy is NOT for your stuff, it is for their own equipment. You are not covered and you will NOT get replacement value. You will get some made up arbitrary price based on item weight and the square foot footprint it took up. Seriously. Then they will want your credit card number to give you your “compensation” ($22 for golf clubs and bag), DON’T DO IT!

They are shady at best! They ding walls, scratch wood floors, and put heavy items on boxes which are clearly labelled fragile.

They do not divide customer shipments or label anything.

It is not worth the hassle and irritation.

Unprofessional, unorganized, no communication

On Sunday April 25, we hired 2 Burley Men to move locally. We had hired 2 Burley Men last July to move a one-bedroom apartment from Duncan to Nanaimo. Those movers were AMAZING, they were friendly, polite, courteous, and fast! They moved me from Duncan to Nanaimo in five hours

Very opposite this time

Less contents (without contents of my kitchen, and some already sold items), moving locally, but

going to two locations - the couch and kitchen table needed to go to my mom's house

They claimed more than six hours plus.

The 2 gentlemen this time had no communication with each other, as I would mention something to one of them, and then had to tell the other the same thing shortly after.

When asked to disassemble my bed they didn't think they had tools. They were also asked to wrap items such as mattress and mirrors, they said they would, but didn’t. My mattress was not protected and is filthy, and my dresser has scratches.

One guy was looking for a ramp, there was none, only a hydraulic back door. One guy went with each box up and down the hydraulic. It is as setting a table, bringing each plate by itself.

They went to the wrong location, when asked they drove away, without explanation.

It took them about 2.5 hours to unload the truck at the first location..

The kitchen table with chairs (supposed to go my mom’s house) were unloaded several times.

The way boxes were put into my bedroom was completely unorganized to the point where they quickly ran out of room, and ended up leaving more than half of my boxes outside the house,

I now have to personally move them inside.

The pieces of my bedframe were left on the ground in the middle of my room with the mattress on top of them, leaning against my dresser. As the pieces of my bed are wood, and the ground is wood, the lack of friction caused that entire pile to fall.

I went to get them gatorade, and a couple snacks from 7-11, they just took it and walked away. I understand I'm not paying for manners, but still.

When finally finished, they left the door open, said nothing to my sister, and just left.

By the time they got to my parent's place, both my parents (who are both over 70) and myself helped unload the couch to expedite the process.

I'm not even sure what the gentlemen's names were, they did not introduce themselves, and I didn't get the waybill at the end.

I had been hoping to go into work that afternoon, but since it took much longer than anticipated, not only was I unable to go into work, but with the amount that I had to help, I quite severely injured my back and was unable to get out of bed yesterday.

Talking with a lady named Cheryl from the claims department, and she had the unbelievable suggestion to give me “10% of my next move”

Run Away!

We have used 2 Burley Men many times for local and distance moves over the past 10 years - NEVER again!

Recently did a move from a small Vancouver apartment to the island and they chose not to honour the verbal quote they gave us. “No more than $1200,” we were told. Charged over $1800! Terrible customer service afterward. Rude, defensive, indignant, dismissive, not willing to budge or negotiate. I used to recommend this company, now I will tell everyone I know to avoid them at all costs. Shysters.

DO NOT use this company

If I could give 0 stars I would. Do yourself a favour and choose literally any other company. They were 3 hours late to my reservation, due to my truck breaking down. They did not call me to let me know they would be late until after my booking time had started. The movers themselves were slow and inefficient, taking an hour to load a single bedroom, which I had already had everything waiting outside for them. The truck then broke down again holding us up for another hour, they didn’t have any jumper cables or thought to call their manager for help, so I had to run around the neighborhood looking for cables and a truck to jump. They got the truck going again and were about 5 minutes behind me, yet somehow took over an hour to drive to my new apartment when it took me only 30 minutes. The movers seemed inebriated when unloading my things, and one of them sat there doing nothing while making the new guy (it was his first shift) do everything.

On top of all of that, they made me sign the papers before I was aware of how much they’d be charging me. On the invoice, they miscalculated times and overcharged me. I am now trying to settle the bill with the company for what I believe is fair, as I kept track of the timing that day and have several witnesses. Instead of correcting the bill or honouring their statements that they would waive travel time due to all of the issues we ran in to, they are threatening legal action.

Do NOT reserve with this company, you will be overcharged for crappy service and you are better off elsewhere.

Truck full of garbage! Disgusting service!

The movers arrived 2hrs late for our move, they then ranted for the duration of the move about how much they hated their jobs and the branch they were helping out at. The truck from the Langley branch was filled with garbage and trash and my belongings were stored right along side pizza boxes and other crap. They then dropped boxes and broke fragile items due to rushing and over stacking to compensate for their lateness. When I called to complain I was offered 15% off a future move and told they couldn't help me because this was just usual moving stress. The poor customer service, gaslighting from the man taking my complaint and the disgusting conditions of their truck are more than enough reason to stay away!

Long Distance Moving- Prince George to Nanaimo

The Long Distance division of this company is AWFUL!!!! The guys who actually handled the packing and unloading of my items were great but the office people are horrible, disrespectful, outright rude. I had a scheduled time for delivery, guy who does scheduling couldn't be bothered to call me back notifying that they were delays, took over 3 days to have items delivered, extra charges on my bill and now the service office will not return emails or phone calls to return my money. Horrible horrible company, DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Great service

While there was a delay at the start of the move by 1 day due to them being really busy , the crew kept in close contact with me and I was very happy with the level of communication. The crew was from Edmonton and they did a great job! They wrapped all our furniture with care and everything made it to our destination in one piece. They were polite , courteous, and very careful. No damage at either locations. The price quoted was what I was charged as I didn't exceed the 6000 lbs standard for their fee. And by far the best rate compared to any other company I got a quote from. I will definitely use this service again. Again shout out to the Edmonton crew fantastic job!

Worst company I have ever dealt with

All around the worst experience. I booked them July 18th for a Sept 1st move. They never showed or called, they were suppose to be there at 9am. I ended up calling them and they were running behind from a move from the day before. They showed up at 330PM. By the time we got to the new place it was after 9PM because they were so late to begin with. The driver was unable to make a turn on my road with his 36 foot truck even though Sleep countries 40 foot truck had no problem at all. They some how backed into someone's fence on the road as well. They ended up leaving. The next day I heard nothing so I called around and I eventually got Cheryl who deals with these situations and she said they were loading a smaller truck for me and I had to just wait all day/night until they showed up because she couldn't give me a time. I told her I was a single mom with a 5 year old and they had my furniture. She asked if there was somewhere I could drop my kid off (there wasn't). I got a call at 9pm and they said they would be there at 9am the next day, they never showed. They showed sometime after 12pm with the same truck. I had to go find a Uhaul because they refused to even try it. I had to spend $100 on a uhaul and I missed 3 days of work and was without my stuff for 3 days. They then billed me for $1700 way above the quote because of their mistakes. The owner Scott was even going to stop by because it was such a messy situation so the drivers said he was going to stop by and he never did. When I called to complain Cheryl said it was all my fault and that it wasn't their responsibility to even refund the uhaul amount. I am going to seek legal advise today as I have no where to go but here.

Move from Comox to Duncan, BC.

I had a number of issues with this company when I moved. I asked to speak with someone in their PR department but they said there was no one for me to talk with.

One of the movers broke the stand off of my 52 " flat screen TV. He said he could probably fix it but it wouldn't be very secure and would probably lean to one side. He left it lying in the middle of a high traffic area at the final destination. I had to ask him to take it off of the ground and lean it up against the wall before someone stepped on it.

I was quite concerned when we got to my new place because he went into my bathroom and did not come out for 20 minutes. I asked him a number of times if he was okay.

I asked his partner at one point if he would check on him to make sure he was okay. When he finally came out he said he had a sore back. I'm glad that he was okay. (I was also concerned that I was spending $120 an hour for the two movers). This 20 minutes was charged to me.

Meanwhile the second mover had fragile boxes on his dolly and was running down the slope with them, stopping at the last moment at the gate, gravel flying everywhere. I was shaking my head and started thinking that the scenario was out of a cartoon scene. A few days later my friend asked how the move went. When I told her about the broken TV stand, she said that didn't surprise her. The movers had stopped at her place to pick up a couch and loveseat for me. She said they had literally thrown them both into the truck. The couch first, then the loveseat on top of the couch. With such force, that the loveseat rolled over the top of the couch and landed behind it. I could go on with my move but I 'm sure whoever's is reading this gets the picture. It would be nice to hear from someone at the company but I am not holding my breath.

Move within Nanaimo

This is the second time hiring this company and both times have been what I would call a success. The one downfall was that they arrived over an hour late. I received a call to say they’d be running a bit late, but it turned into a lot late. When they did arrive they got right into the move and they moved quickly and efficiently. They stopped for a short break in what turned out to be a fairly long day. They earned it. There were a couple of small dirty marks on one wall in the new house, but other than that we have not noticed anything else. Certainly nothing to cause concern or complain about. Overall we were pleased with the three personable men that moved us and their hard work ethic.

Long haul nightmare

If your ideal move is to chase your movers for a delivery date because no one knows where your stuff went; play phone tag for 3 days with multiple employees who pass you off as someone else’s problem; finally secure a delivery date, but have things arrive damaged and broken; get charged DOUBLE what they originally quoted; find out they lost some of your items, and when you notify them, they give you a “We’ll look for it”; then proceed to chase them down for a month, only to have them tell you they can’t find it and will give you $16.80 for your lost items (which was actually around $800 worth) – then this dishonest, hell-hole moving company is for you.

These guys don’t care. Their customer service is pathetic. Their lack of communication between cities is a joke. The incompetence of the staff is laughable. They can’t even accomplish the most basic task of a moving company: deliver your client’s stuff from point A to point B. To say they are unreliable is being generous. You think you’re getting a reasonable quote when you first call. (It’s a trap!) Be prepared to pay double what you were quoted. They say they “charge by weight” but never show proof of weight. I’m just glad I escaped relatively unscathed compared to the other reviews. Their google response makes no attempt to rectify their mistakes, just says “Hope we can do better next time.” There is no next time. There will never be a next time.

If you’re looking for a mover, get a U-Haul or pay extra for a better, more reputable moving company, but stay away from 2 Burley Men.

Overcharged and damaged furniture

Requested a quote for moving from Calgary to Red Deer, quoted $1350+GST for 2 guys for 8 hours and gas. Set up the move for 8am. Guys showed up over an hour late and the first thing one of them asked is if I could tip them in cash. They did a decent job packing and moving, however when they put stuff in storage they damaged some furniture and totes by sliding furniture on rough concrete floor and overstacking boxes. When the bill came they wanted over $1700 for the move but could not tell me why, first it was the extra travel fees then their customer service told.me it was extra wait time which was total BS I had to wait for them. They charged me for 10 hours but only worked 8 hour, the bill says 2 hours to load and 2.25 hours to unload, no way travel was 5.75 hours. Chery from customer service was useless, blamed me and then just ignored me. I showed this to another moving company and they confirmed that this is way overcharged, $1300 is max that I should have paid. Never using them again.

Under One Star-Scam

They said they were coming one day, then come the next day and only take 1/2 stuff. The truck they sent was full. Pick up the second half with another truck at 11:30pm-2am. Then over the following two days drop the stuff off. Its only a 1 bedroom. They quote is for $2700.00for the1bedroom. The first drop-off- increased to $3000.00. The second drop off is an additional 1650.00!!! The one supervisor was actually threatening and abusive, knowing our situation. Warn as many ppl as possible.

Unaccountable for damage to my furniture

The movers were friendly and hard working, but they did major damage to my furniture, including an $1800 solid wood mates bed and left nails protruding into my almost new mattress puncturing it. They KNEW they hadn't assembled it correctly but didn't tell me. My new dining room chairs have gouges in them, each worth $150 per chair. Gouges and scuffs to a wooden desk. They are offering me $168 refund for all this damage! This is unacceptable. How do they get away with this? They are not careful or accountable. There is no accountability with this company. Make it right 2 Burley Men. I will write a more positive review when you pay for the damage you caused to my furniture.

Move from Vancouver To Calgary

These guys are horrible! More like 2 Bonehead Men Moving than anything. Booked a time for 2-3pm for them to arrive. As in many downtown apt buildings you have to block off the elevator for a move. So we got the elevator locked off from 2-5pm for a micro studio amount move. They didn’t show up until after 6pm! Wouldn’t have been so bad had they communicated with us at all. We got through to Josh around 4pm and he said they were 30 mins away. Nope. Tried calling back and was completely ignored. When they finally arrived we asked if we could possibly move the items the next day as we no longer had the elevator locked off. Nope. They said they had “scheduled” pick ups the next morning and didn’t know when the truck would be back in Vancouver again. So we had to move the items in the elevator on a busy Saturday night with people trying to use the elevator which took at least 3 times longer. The cherries on this Jubilee was that we were fined $300 from the strata and the items arrived with chip and dings in them. Their reply when asked, “Stuff happens”. DO NOT use these guys!

Decent people. Bad systems.

Everyone I dealt with was polite and helpful. My goods all arrived intact.

The lower review is down to a huge disparity between the estimate and the final charge. It was $800+ more than the estimate or some 55% more than the estimate.

While estimates are rarely spot on, this disparity shows either incompetence in estimating work or habitual practice. Based on other reviews, and even comments by staff, it is a continuous issue. This makes them a risky vendor to employ as it can really damage your budget.

Plus they take payment with credit card over the phone and write down your card number on the invoice - a very insecure and archaic practice. As such I’d be unwilling to use them again in the future or recommend them to others.

Do not let them touch your piano!

They do not know how to move a piano properly. They damaged the piano during the move and the movers would not take reasonability for the damage they cause. When confronted about the damage, the movers became rude and aggressive towards us.

Do not let them touch your piano!

They were also asked beforehand specifically to wear a mask when entering our house, but the one of the movers did not come with a mask and entered our house anyways without a mask.

Additionally they did not use any floor covering to protect the flooring when moving the piano and did not wear booties when wearing their shoes inside while walking across carpet.

I strongly recommend others against using 2 Burley Men Moving and will not be using them again in the future.

The 2 men who picked up our stuff were awesome. The other two out of Edmonton should not be in the business without further training in handling goods. The cost of the move went from 6500 dollars to 8300 dollars. Our furniture came on two trucks days apart. The second load went from Oliver area to Calgary, Red Deer and then on to Edmonton then back to our place. Disgusting service in my opinion and grossly overpriced. Some items broken. Had I known they would never have been called for the job. I am positive there are more out there much better. Why send a truck to pick up our stuff when it won't fit?? Damage and Destruction - Alberta to BC move

Too bad I didn't bother to read the reviews posted here before hiring them. Didn't arrive when they were supposed (despite booking 2 months in advance), arrived late for pick up and the same for drop off. Quote was almost 1/2 of what I ended up paying. Furniture left on its side or left for 2 senior citizens to figure out how to move it. (Not our responsibility to put furniture where customer wants it) quote from customer service. More damage done on this move than the previous 10 moves in our life. Heavy items must have been placed on furniture not designed to take weight, Just a mess from start to finish. Ended up having another company come and put things as right as they could for us. (Get a Load Off Moving A+)
