International move from , IL to , ON

UPACK rocks!

Just moved from Chicago, IL to Toronto, ON last week.

As one can imagine, moving furniture and other household goods across the border to a different country was the most stressful part of the move.. until I found UPACK!

Loved the pay-for-what-you-use feature of the service. Also, all the service professionals who I spoke to over phone very extra courteous and helpful throughout the process - of arranging delivery, pickup, custom forms etc.

Oh, did I mention, the prices offered by UPACK are THE best you will find anywhere.

All in all, would absolutely use this service again, the next time I move, and highly recommend them!

Service cost: $1588

Long-distance move from California to Alabama

Very poor customer service!! They are like lying Ted Cruz!

We don't even know where to begin with these people. So much happened with them that we could go on and on. They are VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and have absolutely no customer service skills! Everything with these people is good until you are loaded in the trailer and ready to go. It's downhill from there. They will treat you poorly, lie, and even throw some smart #$% comments in there. We were so disappointed in these people and will NEVER use them again. I HIGHLY recommend finding another company. Even though ABF will cost less due to packing it yourself, it is so NOT WORTH IT!! This company will only add headaches and stress. RUN from this company!

Service cost: $3500

Official company response

We are so very sorry you had a disappointing experience. Please email details and your reference number to customercare@upack.com and we'll look into it for you.

Thanks,

Long-distance move from Wisconsin to Tennessee

U Pack.

My wife and I recently moved from Madison, Wisconsin to Nashville, Tennessee. We hadn't moved in over 30 years so you can imagine the amount of things we had accumulated over than time.

We checked pricing of professional moving companies, U Pack, and the u-drive truck rental companies. ABF U Pack was the best value out there for our circumstances. We were ablate pack, load and unload the trailer by ourselves but didn't relish the thought of driving a large vehicle full of furniture and belongings long distance.

Everyone we had contact with at ABF U Pack was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and courteous. This includes the drivers at origin and destination service centers.

I would use U Pack again and would highly recommend them to anyone contemplating a move, be it short or long distance. The only way I could have made my move better would have been to use U Pack people to help load and unload the trailer.

Service cost: $2300

International move from , BC to , CA

Blown away by excellent service!

My husband and I were planning a move from Vancouver, BC to Irvine, CA. Not only were we moving 3 states away but it was also international. Neither of us had ever done such a big move so we were fairly newbees at this. We scoured the internet for reviews and suggestions. We got numerous quotes from other companies. But it seemed like every company we looked at it was going to be a nightmare. The reviews for the more well known companies were horrible, like they just didn't care at all. And the pricing for the other big names of cubes were crazy high. And we were originally looking for pick up from my parents house in Washington state, as the price jump for taking our stuff over the border was unreasonably high. So we were planning to make smaller trips to my parents place, so we could then move everything from there and save about $1000. I came across reviews on this website actually for UPack and was surprised by the generally good reviews. We got a quote online and it was very reasonable. Then I read a specific review of someone who had moved from Vancouver to San Francisco and decided to just see how much it would be more for it to leave straight from our apartment. It was less than $100 more!! And was about half of what a big name cube mover quoted us to move from Washington!! We couldn't believe it! Everywhere else was charging so much more just to cross the border. I called UPack the next day and got an exact quote and reserved it on the spot. They sent me very helpful emails, always notifying me of dates for important paperwork. The ABF branch in Surrey, BC that we worked with was extremely helpful and friendly. Pat at the office was super helpful in answering all of my millions of questions. The driver who dropped of the cube was extremely friendly and helpful. We didn't have to be there for it to be picked up which was nice. Then the cube actually beat us to Irvine. The cube was picked up on Friday January 23rd, and I got a call it had arrived on Thursday January 28th! We were worried we would have to wait but it was the lowest quoted time! The driver who dropped of the cube was very friendly and patient as we were still signing some moving documents when he arrived. We only noticed one item damaged, a tile on a little table we had but that was more our fault as we didn't really care if it got damaged so we didn't put anything on top of it to cushion. We paid exactly what was quoted too. I would definitely recommend UPack for any daunting move or even easy move. They are a class act in an area where I think a lot of companies don't care as they are well known. Probably some of the best service from any company I have ever received.

Service cost: $1100

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a well-written review, Rachelle. We're grateful you chose us, and are happy to hear you were pleased with the service. I hope you and your husband are loving Irvine.

Long-distance move from Connecticut to South Carolina

My move from CT to SC.

I rarely give ANY survey a 10 rating (being the BEST) but I have to say that I do give U-Pack a positive 10 for a super job well done. Each and every call I made or with in person contact with the drivers, they were all second to none. From the first representative that I spoke to the drivers that delivered to my home and destination the pods were very professional and attentive to my concerns. I would NEVER have a problem recommending U-Pack to family, friends and even strangers. One person that really shined above all was Vanessa, she was better than a 10. She was an outstanding representative of your company, very professional, sincere in recognizing my concerns and very pleasant to talk to. PLEASE recognize Vanessa and all those individuals I have come into contact with. Vanessa as well as the others are what makes a company successful and it was my pleasure and great experience to utilize the services of U-Pack. It is because of them that I say "THANKS" to all for a wonderful experience. To the staff and management at U-Pack I give a solid 10.

Service cost: $1500

Wow, Larry!! Thank you so much!

I am so happy your u-Pack move went so well.

U-Pack JUST implemented a recognition program for the people at the terminals that make it happen every day and I've already sent in Vanessa's name based on your comments.

Thanks for the review and taking the time to mention the great service by Vanessa.

Best Wishes,

Long-distance move from New York to Texas

Abf u-pack trailers for cross country moves.

ABF u-pack was a nice moving experience. My move was a small move from Long Island to Austin Texas and I have looked around for multiple possibities, either renting a truck and driving myself with the goods, hiring a full service moving company, geting a pod delivered, or hiring space on a van line. Because to drive with a truck towing my car would be a pain and cost a fortune just on gas, I decided to let go this option early. The choice between a full service moving company is always questionable as there are lots of crooks out there, so beware. The option of having a pod delivered always ended up being more costly than getting space on a van line or a freight company because it usually involves using the pod for an entire month for storage purposes, etc, and I really didn't need it. I was just needing a trailer at my old apartment complex for a certain period of time to be loaded, then delivered at my new apartment complext for a certain period of time to be unloaded, so ABF was a perfect choice. The trailer arrived on the setup date (tuesday), I hired local help on hireahelper.com to load it on the next morning (wednesday). Everything went smoothly, I had most of the things prepared already, so it was just a matter of wrapping up, padding and loading. Then I set the trailer to be picked up later on that day such that I could finish cleaning the apartment and loading myself the cleaning supplies (vaccuum cleaner, etc). Note that parking might be an issue, and I have checked with my apartment complex if it would be ok to have a big trailer parked there overnight- they said it was ok, but be aware that the trailer is quite big and because the truck head leaves, it cannot be on the street. The driver came, helped me out installing the bulkhead, and I said farewell to my stuff (wednesday evening). I kept minimal stuff with me to drive down there - I would be leaving on the next day (thursday) and note that I have a wife, a dog, and two cats to fit in a VW beetle. Particularly, an air mattress is an important thing because my stuff would only arrive a couple days after me, but it really depends on you and  how big is your car. So I took 4 days of driving to get there (arrived on sunday) - a nice drive through the middle of the country stopping to eat at super nice country restaurants. It was nice that I had everything arranged with my apartment complex because it was just a matter of checking in and bearing an unfurnished apartment for a couple of days. I started calling the local abf terminal to check in my stuff. It arrived on tuesday. the terminal here is a small one, so they are not as flexible as up there in Long Island with time windows, so I set up the delivery for the next day (wednesday), they said in between 8-5 but then arrived late in the morning. I had set up another local hireahelper crew to come and unload it and haul it to my new apartment and I asked them to come earlier as soon as the trailer arrived. they came and unloaded everything. the goods arrived in good condition: I have only a minor dent in a tv stand, a corner of the dinning table, and another small dent in a computer table - no big deal at all. Note that I was somewhat careful packing my things, several furniture pads for the furniture and couch, bubble wrap for fragile stuff, everything was kind of sealed with plastic wrap or inside boxes, then I had a plastic cover on top of everything and used my mattress to pad the back side against the bulkhead. The guys loading the trailer really did a good job - in my opinion it is important you get experienced professionals for this. After the trailer was empty (wednesday afternoon), I call the abf terminal to set up its pick up, they came on the next day (thursday) and because I was at work, I didn't see the driver. I left my car blocking the trailer head and then when I left, I left boxes on those parking spaces asking people to kindly not to park there.   overall, a great experience. a very competitive price just for the delivery, maybe one could get a cheaper quote, but at least I got good vibes from abf costumer service assuring me that everything would go as planned because of my tight schedule (particularly delivery and pick up times of the trailer). abf asked for roughly 1700, hireahelper was approx 400 total (slightly more expensive in long island, obviously, "this is new york" than in texas). if it was not such a pain, I would definitely do it again. good luck with your moves. feel free to contact me if you want. best wishes  .

Long-distance move from Colorado to Oregon

Two trailers.

I had read some terrible reviews of all of the major van lines but did not want to drive a truck 1,500 miles on my own.  ABF seemed the best option.  Based on the Upack online estimator I came up with 17 linear feet for my 3 bedroom house.  I must have left out a lot because we quickly filled all 26 feet of trailer.  I called for a second one and it was delivered quickly.  I hired local movers to help load the trailers and we stacked right to the top on the first trailer.  The second wasn't packed as well and there was wasted space at top.  It's difficult to pack odd shaped items.  Standard moving boxes work better than liquor boxes because they are consistent sizes and shapes.  Anyway, ABF got both trailers to my destination on schedule and, despite some settling during shipment, there was very little damage.  The price I was charged was accurate and there were not last-minute "extras". I'd highly recommend Upack and ABF, but over-estimate your footage and get good crews for loading and unloading.

Long-distance move from California to Pennsylvania

U-Pack Move went great.

We moved my mother-in-law from her home in Lakewood, CA near Los Angeles to Pittsburgh.  We looked into a variety of options including traditional moving company to a container service (PODS and competitors), to do-it-ourselves one way truck rental.  U-Pack provided a 28' empty trailer.  They dropped it off in front of her house.  We packed it over a weekend, and they picked it up on Monday.  Then they dropped it off at the new apartment, we unloaded it and they picked it up when we were done.  You pay by the linear foot of trailer (8' wide, 9' high), with a 5' minimum.  This worked really well for us because fitting what she had into the containers we found was difficult or expensive.Setting up the move was easy.  Call the toll free number, supply the info (or use the website, which is what I did), and get a quote.  I called them to actually schedule things, which was also easy.In Lakewood, we had some hassle with getting the trailer delivered when they said they would, but with a couple of phone calls it got done on the day we wanted it.  Since they don't work on the weekend, we needed it delivered on a Friday, and they did.The trailer is delivered empty with a ramp (it's a real truck trailer with a 4' off the ground floor).  It's empty when they deliver it.  We hired experienced movers to help us load it, since packing a truck so stuff survives a few thousand mile trip isn't easy.  We got everything padded and strapped down.  One hint for anyone who does this is that U-Haul rents furniture pads one way, which is just what we needed.  U-Pack provides an 8' high wall, basically two sheets of plywood with some pipes to hold the sheets together and hook into the slots that run down the sides of the trailer.  This demises your stuff from anything else that goes in the trailer later.  They warn you that it's not designed to hold your stuff in place. U-Pack is a division of ABF trucking.  They haul the trailer to their terminal, load commercial freight in and send it to a terminal near you.  The wall protects your stuff from that freight.  It normally takes 4-5 days, not including the weekends to ship across the country.  It worked best for us to have the trailer delivered the following Wednesday, even though we could have had it as early as Monday. We needed the trailer delivered and picked up on the same day.  The facility she lives in would not let us leave it overnight.  The Pittsburgh terminal was able to accommodate that on our preferred day.  They delivered it as promised, and picked it up as promised. When we opened the trailer, it looked exactly as we had left it in Lakewood.  We took down the wall, unloaded the trailer and called the terminal to tell them it was ready to be picked up.This worked out great for us.  It was cost effective, pretty painless, and gave us the most flexibility.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Indiana

ABF moving company.

The trucks were on time. The people worked with me to determine the amount of a space needed.  The quote was the same at the end and the beginning. My issue was with the movingstaffers who contract with them.  Was told one charge and then charged quite a different amount 3 days before.  The packers came on time but took several breaks. The first 28 ft truck I had people there & it was packed well to the top and no damage.  Second truck the packers wanted to do themselves. Great damage.  Major gouges in the furniture. I was told one charge for blankets.  After the trucks were loaded charged another and wanted cash or check. The unpackers did not show up for two hours.  Got charged for them even though I dinight use them.  Moving staffers rude called me a liar.  I went to the visa company got the overcharges back in addition to some of the unpackers charges. Would use ABF but they should contract with another group or not recommend any movers at all.  .

Long-distance move from Florida to California

Amazing and Easy Move.

Even though we dreaded having to pack up an apartment and ship the contents across the country, U-Pack made that part easy. We were so surprised to get the cube in a week. Everything came in tack, just as we packed it. There were no hidden costs and the container came to our home. The container was then picked up soon after we called for pick up. We were quite impressed with this entire operation.
