Long-distance move from Denver, CO to Toledo, OH

Great Experience!

I don't typically leave reviews, but we had an extremely positive experience with Purple Heart. We needed to move quickly with very little notice and I found them through a quick online search, All of their employees were excellent, and eased all of our concerns. We were stressed with the timeline, only because our move was so last minute, but everything went according to plan. The movers were so friendly when our items finally arrived at our new house, and even though I hovered and asked them endless questions, they were completely friendly and treated us and our belongings with respect. I would highly recommend Purple Heart!!

Long-distance move from Atlanta, GA to Birmingham, AL

Fabulous Movers!

I am so thankful for a moving company like Purple Heart. They made my recent move from Atlanta to Birmingham so much easier than I was anticipating. I expected it to be a crazy, hectic day with possessions flying here and there and some getting lost along the way, but it was the absolute opposite of that -- from the first moment that I spoke with the company.

They were professional and a joy to work with from the very beginning, straight-forward with their prices (which were very reasonable!), timely and diligent in their efforts to remove my crazy amount of possessions from one house to another, and gentle with my breakables.

I would definitely recommend this company to any planning on moving to another state. The lack of stress and craziness in my day was far worth the price I paid. Thank you, Purple Heart, for making my move a positive experience!

Local move within Wisconsin

It's a scam don't do it!

Purple Heart Movers in conjunction with HQ Movers are a scam.
I’m not sure where to even start with all my issues. The original move was scheduled with Purple Heart Moving Brokers after checking around for best possible prices. I had a long-distance move from Ashland, Wisconsin to Dothan, Alabama. Initial quote was for 286 cf (2002) lbs. I had a King Size Bed, A couch, two end tables and a large vinyl shelving unit, couple light shelves with 20-30 boxes. I was assured I would receive a call from the mover to inform me when my items would be picked up. I was already in Alabama. So, I also gave them the number of my friend since he would be at the pickup location for a backup contact. Apparently, they contacted him but did not contact me. I got a call from my friend stating the company would be there in several hours. They assured him pick up no later than 5pm. At 6pm he contacted me. I had to reach out to Purple Heart to find out why the movers were not at my apartment yet. They finally decided to show up after 8pm. It was close to 11am when they left the Ashland, Wisconsin location. Before they picked up all my boxes, they informed me the rate would increase. I could see that as a possibility. With a small increase. After all my count guess could have been wrong. That brought the original estimate from $1848.19 to $2751.21. Still seemed like a large increase for so little items. The guys were going to send me the inventory and copies of the files. What I received was by teach. The pictures were taken in the dark. I was supposed to also get pictures of the items placed in the truck. Didn’t happen. I was paying by credit card. They required me to take a picture of the card and my drivers license and send it by text. I was uneasy about doing this. I’ve never known a reputable company to request this information by delivery of text. The next day I received a credit card release from HQ. I went ahead and paid the balance off and had to send the information once again. After about a week, I called to get the status of my move. I called numerous times. The pick-up driver wrote down earliest delivery a month out. I was already in Alabama. I had to start my new job as the Morning Show on Air Personality at the radio station immediately. The calls went back and forth. At one point I was told my items were in Minnesota. Next time they were in storage in Kansas. Finally, several weeks later, they told me I would get my belonging the following week. Once again, I was told the driver would contact me. The information being transmitted was always after normal business hours. I go to sleep right after 6 to get up at 3am. The week of delivery, I called several times. I had not received a call from their delivery driver. He finally contacted me and told me he would be at my new apartment the following day. Once again, I went over my work schedule. On the delivery day he called and gave me a time of 6pm. After 8pm, he comes strolling up to my apartment telling me that he couldn’t get the 18-wheeler into the apartment complex. I told him I was expecting a call right as he arrived in Dothan. He proceeded to show me his phone where he started calling me. The first number was the radio station office line and the second number wasn’t even my number. Then he proceeded to tell me my phone was disconnected. No, my phone works fine, I was on it when you walked up. You dialed the wrong number and tried to blame it on me. He called me earlier on the correct number. Total bs. A call indicating, they were going to be late should have been made. I would have informed him which entrance to use. He told me he still wouldn’t be able to get the truck in. My apartment complex manager was standing outside and reaffirmed the instructions I gave him. (My whole family drives 18 wheelers so I’m very schooled). Be aware, do not fall for this. That’s just more money they want to charge you. We go upstairs and then the driver informs me the stairs will cost me another $75.00 in cash and my balance of $1963.31 My contract shows the first flight of stairs includes up to 21 stairs. I only have 14 steps on one flight. So now my total is $2826.21. I previously paid the balance and his paperwork did not reflect that. Here’s more time wasted calling back to their dispatch office. It was after 9 by the time they started unloading my belongings. At least 8 boxes had lost numbers. I opened those first to confirm those belonged to me. The boxes were beat up. Looked like they had been thrown and run over by a train. Once everything was delivered, I signed the paperwork. The guy left, and I realized My large vinyl shelf wasn’t in the house. I went to the door to stop him to find out where it was. He basically told me that it wasn’t on the truck. I informed him it would have been on the truck. It was wrapped in shrink wrap and noted on the inventory. So now, one of my largest and longest pieces of furniture is missing and I’ve been told it wasn’t on the truck when I can surely see it was on the inventory list and indicated it was shrink wrapped. If it’s not on the truck, the rate shouldn’t have been increased. It was large and long. Also, my antique record storage cabinet is also split down the side. Looks like someone dropped it. Now the wood is split down the middle of one side. I tried to contact the office on Friday to report the damage and missing piece. It went to voicemail. No returned call from them. Finally, Sunday during a funeral I get a message from Purple Heart. At this time, I’m done with dealing with this company. I thought that I would be helping Veterans by using this company. This experience has taught me a lesson about moving. I work in the media. This will not go unnoticed. I’m sure I’m not the only person they have ripped off. The customer service is horrible. No reputable moving company delivers after normal business hours and they certainly don’t contact you in the middle of the night.

Long-distance move from Maitland, FL to Staten Island, NY

Beware of Fraud.

I live in New York and had furniture in my condo to move from Florida back up north and for starters Purple Heart is not a moving company, they are a broker and they find other companies to move your furniture, that is the first mistake. I thought I was getting a reputable moving company and I got Pac N Go movers which is a 2 brother and wife operation. They showed up a day late which I had to change my flight and cost me $75 to change, they showed up at 4pm when the window was 8am-12, they lost some of my property which they are not responding to now. The quote I got from Purple Heart was $1000 less than my quote at pickup. The furniture was suppose to take no more than 21 days and it took over 30. The customer service is horrible, they lie to get you off the phone. The only nice people were the young 20 year old kids that delivered the furniture, even that was going to be 3 people and was only 2 because the 3rd had no way to get home. This has been the absolute worse experience. Anyone reading this, go with a large reputable company, you know what you are dealing with and do not have to worry about lost and or damaged items.

Long-distance move from Tennessee to Florida

Love this company.

I was relocating from TN to FL and I had another company to move my belongings and on the day of the move, they bailed on me. With only 2 hours to spare, I reached out on the internet and Purple Heart Moving Group came to my rescue. The movers were pleasant and took time to pack my belongings very neatly and in a timely manner. My delivery time was right on schedule and they put together all belongings in the house. I recommend this company because they were very courteous and empathetic to my needs.

Long-distance move from Denver, CO to Montauk, NY

Horrible service.

Don’t use Purple Heart Moving Group.
I’ve had a terrible experience with Purple Heart.
Summary:
• I arranged for 2 separate deliveries. The first delivery was made about 6 weeks, and the second 8 weeks, after the agreed delivery date, despite Purple Heart’s providing an estimated delivery date of 4-14 business days from my first available delivery date. My first available delivery date was September 24, 2018.
• There was only one individual to pick up my items, so I had to assist with carrying heavy furniture to the mover’s truck.
• Purple Heart is a moving broker. Purple Heart hires moving companies to do the move. Liability for lost or damaged items is with the movers hired by Purple Heart. The customer’s contract with Purple Heart states that Purple Heart does not have liability for lost or damaged items.
• The mover hired by Purple Heart lost one item and damaged a few others. As reported on a local Colorado news station, the mover is under investigation for theft of customers’ property. The domain for the mover’s website has expired. I am not confident I will be able to receive compensation for the lost and damaged items and late fees.
• Purple Heart has a weak C+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. There are 30 negative reviews on the BBB site within the last year or so. There are also dozens of formal complaints on the BBB site. It’s not clear whether Purple Heart resolved these complaints to the customers’ satisfaction. According to the BBB site, Purple Heart has only been in business one year.
Details:
• Purple Heart gave me a 3 day window for pick-up. They said I would be contacted 24-48 hours before pick-up. I was not contacted until one hour before pick-up.
• I had to help move some of the heavier furniture including the mattress, because the mover had only one individual (the driver of the truck) to do the pick-up.
• Purple Heart advertises delivery within 4-14 days of my first available delivery date. The first delivery date provided to me was 13 business days after pick-up, but the delivery was not made on that date.
• On the 21st business day after pick up, I was told by email that the delivery “should be within the next few days.” That delivery window was missed as well.
• The third delivery date provided to me was 27 business days after my first available delivery date. That delivery date was missed.
• Finally, the delivery was made 33 business days after my first available delivery date.
• I was not notified in advance of any of the delivery dates that the delivery would not be coming.
• I was given the contact information of the driver making the delivery. When I contacted him to confirm the third delivery date, he did not respond to me until the morning on which the delivery was made, which was 8 days after the third delivery date.
• Originally I had arranged for a second delivery of a smaller number of items to my father’s house. That delivery was made 42 business days after my first available delivery date. 3 days prior to that delivery I was contacted by the driver saying the delivery would be made in a few hours, but the driver did not show up, did not contact me, and did not respond to my calls.
• Purple Heart told me I would be contacted within 24 hours of each delivery date. In both cases I was not contacted until the morning the delivery was made.
• There was one missing items and 2 damaged items on the first delivery. There may be missing items as some of the boxes came to me opened. I may not be able to remember everything that was moved, as these items belonged to my deceased brother and I packed them very quickly without taking a comprehensive inventory.
• Purple Heart claimed that I would be compensated for each day the delivery date exceeded 30 business days after the first available delivery date.
• It was reported on a local news show that the mover is under investigation for theft and damaged items. The mover’s website domain has expired. So I am not confident that I will be compensated for the lost and damaged items, and the late fees.
• On no fewer than 4 occasions, when I contacted Purple Heart, they could not provide me updated information, promised a call back and did not call me back.

Long-distance move from Raleigh, NC to Vail, CO

Moving Nightmare.

Moving nightmare. Stay away from this company. I had been in contact with this company for a move from North Carolina to Colorado. I was told by the company there was a driver available to complete this move. My belongings were picked up September 28th and I was assured they were en route--with an estimated moving time (per federal standards) of 4 to 14 days. It is now November 26th and I still have not received my belongings. After calling this company on nearly a daily basis for 2 weeks after my belongings still had not shown up and being left with no answers (or anyone answering my calls the majority of the time) other than that they were on their way and would have an ETA and driver information shortly it was finally revealed that my belonging were sitting in a storage warehouse in a location that could not be disclosed to me. When I signed the moving contract I was told that Purple Heart Movers used their own drivers but as soon as I signed the contract I was told that any further communication would be through a company called Moving Kings. I was to pay the costs in increments-- on signing the contract, on item pickup and on delivery. I got a call from someone the day of my move stating that I would need to pay the entire cost of the move up front so that it would be "worth it" to the driver. Later I was told this was a misunderstanding. I was also told my belongings were insured up to $30,000 and that after 30 business days (not disclosed--they count the days from after the earliest delivery date) I would get $30/day the items were late. Then the company backtracked and said I would only get $15/day and only if I signed a non-disclosure agreement. Nevermind that this move cost nearly $6,000. After over a month and a half of waiting for my items to leave their "storage warehouse" I asked for a refund so that I could just move the belongings myself. The representative responded, "had you asked two weeks ago I would've told you that it would be a better idea to get your things yourself as we did not have a driver." It was important to me to receive my items in a timely manner as moving costs were to be reimbursed by my work but could only be reimbursed after the move was complete. I asked that every cost (including shuttling to and from the moving truck to my apartment) be included in my contract so there would be no surprise fees. The company looked up my location on google maps and assured the shuttling cost had been included in the estimate. Now the company has communicated they will need another $250-450 to shuttle my belongings to my apartment. I live in the mountains of Colorado and had already moved for work. Winter started in October-- living in an empty apartment when temperatures near 0 degrees on a daily basis is extremely uncomfortable. This company showed no sympathy whatsoever. I am now out nearly $6,000 before the holidays and still don't have my belongings. Please stay far away from this company.

Long-distance move from Fremont, CA to Colorado Springs, CO

Premium price for below average move (poor customer service/time).

Not worth for the price (premium for below average move), headaches/pressure/stress at every step of the move.

Unfortunately. my experience with Purple heart movers(with real movers: Great American van lines) is not good (worse or more or less horrible holding customer hostage to pay extra or wont deliver and charge for the storage). Quote for the move for the large 2 bedroom apartment went up from $2700 to $3900 and then to $4300 (to rent truck). They talk nice initially and later they wont follow-up or notify about when driver would arrive(pickup or deliver) until you call them to push for desired move. Also, they(Purple Heart) consult/mediate with real movers to move the stuff. In this case, Great American Van Lines, came and raised the quote from $2700 to $3900 and then while delivering they raised to $4600 (came down to $4300). Even for the delivery, which was promised between 3 to 10 business days, did not happen until I had to make multiple calls to push for delivery of household stuff. Delivery is planned for 17th day after the pickup. Just to make sure that there were many items, Great American van Lines, disassembled some items(TV stand, steel rack frames, etc) into 5 to 8 pieces and made the grand total to >100 (109).

I would not recommend Purple Heart Movers as they are mediators who take a portion of entire move cost. Please go with Reputed Real Movers (who handle end to end move, which is more peaceful and same cost compared to these below average Movers (such as Purple Heart/Great American Van Lines).

Long-distance move from Salinas, CA to Jersey City, NJ

Purple Heart Moving Company.

Beware this company does not move you! They are brokers for other unknown moving companies to move you. Their first quote is always a low fee to get you to sign then they make you pay 1/3 which is their broker’s fee. Afterwards when the actual moving company comes they increase that fee 50% threatening to cancel your move if you don’t agree aka extortion. Then they cover themselves by saying you signed all their agreements. Also they paid for their good reviews as advertising!

Long-distance move from Myrtle Beach, SC to Las Vegas, NV

Don't.

If I could give them zero stars I would. The whole process of dealing with Purple Heart has been nothing but frustrating, sad and causing us so much stress. Purple Heart is merely a broker, so the company they found, United Movers is who we unfortunately got stuck with. However, we were given the impression that PH had their own vans and trucks, very misleading. First, our truck was 2 days late to arrive. Now, we are moving from SC to NV with only a week for travel and my boyfriend needs to get back to work. No one seemed to care. We talked to so many customer sercice agents who sound like rehearsed robots. Also, Like many reviews we have said, we too were quoted a certain amount, only to be told upon arrival that we owed almost double that. This resulted in an immense argument, and we almost pulled out stuff from the vehicle ( should have). We did not give in and we finally reached a deal after about an 1 and a half hours of arguing. We were told about 10 days. To my shock they arrived in 9. However, the people who dropped off our stuff we had no clue who they were. Apparantly whoever Purple Heart brokered to, brought our stuff to another company in Las Vegas to then bring out stuff to our apartment. OK. Well we are NOW MISSING 5 BOXES. 5! And a bed frame. HOW?! And not small ones. We tried out best to pack our valuables but there are things in those boxes that are irreplaceable such a pictures, cards and sentimental items. The company from vegas said they brought what Purple Heart had given them. So clearly someone on the path has our stuff. I am floored at the lack of sympathy this company has. If they were in this position and lost so many things, I bet they wouldn't be so rude on the phone. It really blows my mind. This driver has 1 job. To get items to their homes. And they can't even do that. This company is also tarnishing the name Purple Heart by providing horrible service, as this medal means a lot more than that. I am hoping so hard to get our stuff back. But, please be advised and do not use them, but a budget truck and tow your car. That's what we will do next time. You cannot trust anyone. Purple heart will make you think they want to help you And "give you the best deal" but it's all scripted lines of people who don't care.
