Long-distance move from New Jersey to Pennsylvania

Do your homework. Use somebody else.

Lets start by saying we got quote for 2000 lbs with 5% discount came to $1064.00 and move date was to be 12/23/2011. The quote was based on questions asked my the moving company. What size house, how many boxes, dressers, etc. Our house was flooded in August so we had minimal furniture. And we didn't move any of our appliances. We felt we had a decent amount of boxes so we called moving company and changed the estimate to 3336 lbs which they quoted 1681.34 w/10% discount. We didn't want any surprises or bait-n-switch problems on moving day. The drivers were supposed to arrive at 8:30am Wednesday, they called and said they forgot to get an empty weight at the weigh scale and will be running late. They showed up around 12:30-1pm. The 2 guys seemed nice but not the fastest crew. We had most of the boxes stacked ready to go in living room. After a long confusing day they finally finshed around 6:30pm. It was supposed to be a direct move 6 hour drive from Nj to Pa. The foreman said we wont be arriving till 2am do you care if we get a hotel and meet you at 7am or so. We figured ok no problem probably good idea since everyone would be tired. Around 8pm the foreman called to say the truck scaled out loaded 23680 lbs, which was 8000 more lbs than Nicole quoted us. So we argued with the driver over phone calls back and forth. He first offered to reduce the weight to 7000 lbs over then we still complained and he offered to drop the weight to 5000 lbs over at $0.56 per lb. we eventually gave up arguing and just wanted to arrive safely and phones kept dropping calls on rt 80. We drove our personal cars and arrived at new home 2am set the alarm for 6am. Around 8 or 9 am my wife calls them to find out where they are.
They said stuck in the mud probably 110 miles away at a hotel. Finally around 12:40 pm the truck shows up and had mud on the tires. They start unloading and starts off ok. Then my brother shows up and argues the weight issue. My brother has more experience than both movers together when it comes to trucking, weight,or moving. Half way through unloading the foreman brings up the weight issue, scale, and more money than agreed upon. So
my brother calls local cop and attorney. We agreed to possibly 4000 lbs no more. So they get their boss on phone who is the most unprofessional boss I had ever talked to and I argue with him then my brother argues with him and it goes back and forth. Then the foreman refuses to accept the 2 postal money orders. He wants wife to cancel them to get cash or payable to the driver to which I refused to do either. The drivers boss refuses money orders, and I explain the contract clearly states cash or postal money orders. So after the company did nothing right from start to finish I gave up and told their boss either take the money orders or get nothing. They took the money orders, and I still tipped each guy since they did do the manual labor. But I don't trust any employee at this company. Misleading from beginning to end.

Stay far away!

If you want professionals, do not use this company.  They will rob you, of items and money. Also, if you want to spend money on packing materials but have your hardware packed in old burger king wrappers, this comapny is the way to go.  If you want to get what you pay for, this is the last company I would ever use. We were charged an additional $240 by the driver via personal chack written to him, because our townhouse had stairs on the inside.. A TOWNHOUSE!! Also a $250 suede and rabbit fur coat came up missing during the move and the company has nothing to say about it.  We were supposed to receive a check reimbursing the $240 charged by the driver, but somehow it must have slipped their minds.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Texas

Run away, far away from this moving company.

Horrible, Horrible experience. I could have tolerated the rude, disinterested uninformed women who answered the phones. I might even have tolerated the lies told by salesman; completely false information and lies given to me when I phoned with point blank questions; the lack of follow up confirmation via email as promised; but I cannot stomach the nearly $600 in extra fees and charges after paying $195 for a binding estimate and getting a verbal promise twice that the estimate was binding. $200 for two pieces of cardboard. And the salesman who bragged about being in the moving business for years and could estimate so well- well not only did I have exactly the items I said I would have but I had even less boxes. And he still cost me several hundred dollars in overage charges. I got no notice for pickup (and I was trying to arrange this from another state.)They just showed up and demanded the warehouse owner (just a friend storing my furniture) give them cash and sign some paperwork. When he refused without my consent, they left without my furniture. A week later noone even knew where my furniture was.   I got no notice for delivery even though I firmly requested an email follow to a verbal conversation wherein I was promised 24 hotice for delivery. THe driver spent two days calling the wrong number then five minutes before 5 at night calls and says I owe him $1440 cash ($600 more than I had anticipated.) and that he'd be there at 9 the next morning, a work day with no prior notice! He wanted to get out of town before bad weather was due and if I wasn't home he'd put my furniture in storage. I spent hours and hours on the phone with Home Team Movers, the original company that contacted me, and hours on the phone with Moving Express and Storage who apparently actually did the move. Both companies should be ashamed of their business practices. THey lied to my face, made unauthorized charges to my credit card and held my furniture hostage til I paid and signed paperwork before I could even see my furniture. As for the "great claims department" the Moving Express rep told me they had (but wouldn't give me the number or anything before delivery)well, it's a third-party claims management company which doesn't even have a phone number or online processing. STAY AWAY FROM THESE COMPANIES!

Long-distance move from Maine to Arizona

Another bad review.

This company was on ABC News for fraudulent practices.  The company owner was an owner of a moving company prior to this company that was closed down by the D.O.T.STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANYThe story detailed a family moving from Maine to Arizona.  The company owner was placed under survilence.  The Department of Weights and Measures was involved.  This was due to the moving company claiming that instead of 8,000 pounds, the load was 16,000 pounds, or DOUBLE the estimate.  Yet the company refused to bring the truck to a weight-station numerous times.
Then when the company finally stopped holding the family's belongings hostage, the driver they used to drive the truck was drunk, driving on suspended license, and had a controlled substance in the cab of the truck.

The worst moving company ever.

I should have read all the reviews before using this company, but I didn't even know the company I hired was a broker and used a different moving company to deliver items.  That moving company is Moving Express and they are the absolute worse!  Rude, irresponsible, neglectful, thefts that damaged my furniture.  They tried to charge me $365 extra.  When I refused to pay they tossed my stuff out on the side of the road!  Several damaged items had to be thrown away.  Please check to make sure them moving brokers you contact do not have a contract with Moving Express because it will seriously be the worse experience in your life!

Long-distance move from Michigan to Colorado

Moving from Michigan to Colorado.

The driver tried to come 2 days early. I told him I wasn't ready. He said we will just pack you and charge you for it. Showed up with a truck that wasn't big enough. Wouldn't listen to me when I told him it wasn't going to fit. Before they left they were literally throwing things and they were falling out of the truck. I actually removed one item from the truck because I was afraid it wouldn't make the trip. I didn't realize they had two months to deliver my belongings. Several items got left behind. I will have to make a trip back to Michigan, rent a Uhaul and retrieve it. They offered to go back but there are people living in the house now and they weren't comfortable dealing with those people. I can't blame them. Then they called me a few weeks later looking for items they were suppose to deliver to Iowa for me and when I couldn't help them do their job they started yelling at me. So I told them not to make the extra stop which then meant I had to make a trip from Colorado to Iowa to help my son get the rest of his belongings. I also got yelled at for not unpacking the 2 drawer filing cabinet with all my personal information in it that put my Identity at risk of being stolen. Remember they were packing for me?? They found the filing cabinet. Put the contents in a box and shipped it Fed Ex. I'm guessing I wont see the filing cabinet. What did make it here, some stuff was moldy, some stuff was broken and some stuff is damaged and alot of stuff has that stupid brown tape all over it??

Worst experience ever.

I can't even begin with terrible experience with my move last week. These people are unprofessional and very very rude and uncaring. They overcharged and then threatened to put my things in some random storage if I didn't come up with extra 500 dollars to get a smaller truck because THEY messed up coming in a way too big one that didn't fit in my propoety. I ended up getting my own furniture in my home after paying them $2600. To top off am missing boxes and received someone elses things. INCREDIBLY STUPID will never recommend..EVER.

Terrible experience-would like to give no stars.

They picked up my daughter's furniture June 29 to move from SC to NM. They were a day late and didn't bother to tell us, I had to call and inquire about where they were. Once they got here and loaded the furniture, they informed us that the price had gone up $1000 because of square footage, we were literally moving one bedroom of furniture. We were told a fixed price for up to 2000 lbs. There was no mention of square footage. They have cashed my check and we have not heard anything from them. I have emailed them and called 4 different phone numbers. I get no response. The number listed on the paperwork rings one time and cuts off. I have left voicemails at other numbers. We have no idea where our furniture is and no delivery information. This company is a scam.

This company should be shut down.

Worst moving company ever. My quote of $5700 went to nearly $19,000 once they took possession go my goods. They showed up three days late and delivered 13 days late. Every time I called I was told your furniture is on the truck should be there tomorrow. They lied to us for 13 days straight like this. We had damages and they refer you to Anthem their insurance company. Good luck with that. "Where are the original receipts for 80 year old furniture". Huh !
They lied to us so much it was only when we threatened to call the police did our furniture finally show up. The guys doing the actual physical move were pretty good - but the office systematically lied. They don't take credit cards only cash or postal money orders. My balance was $12500 to be paid to the driver BEFORE they will unload the van. Take my advice and run as far away from this company as possible.

Scammers.

ZERO STARS. Scammers!! Just as everyone else has been saying. Chris K at US Household Moving & Storage (their partner broker company) did a very good job at convincing us that our belongings would be picked up and moved and delivered August 7th. Well, it's August 21st and the movers still haven't left New Jersey and in the event that they don't arrive within 10 - 14 business days (as they told me over the phone), US Household Moving and Storage denies any responsibility for the delay nor for the quality of the moving company they've partnered with. They stopped caring the moment they took their portion of the binding estimate. Then, as others have said, Chris K's burner phone number suspiciously switched lines and he vanished. The movers (Moving Express & Storage--although they keep changing their name to avoid the bad reviews) will take your things straight to a warehouse in New Jersey (NOT to your destination) where they will then hold it hostage until you pay as much as they demand. And the two companies' contracts are circular such that they diffuse responsibility toward the other in the event of any dispute, and because they know people are out of state, they hope to intimidate them out of filing civil claims while hoping that the stress of not having their belongings will threaten and pressure them into paying more, in some cases 2 - 3x more because that's the psychology of criminals. They try to make you initial blank forms under the impression that you're confirming your belongings went on the truck and then later modify the forms to make it seem like you agreed to revised estimates. Take photos/make copies of EVERYTHING for your imminent civil trial (in the state of Jersey). They also try to ask you during the "secure" credit card authorization online form (while a representative is on the phone with you) to "repeat your credit card number [out loud] just in case you got it wrong" to instill doubt in you and get your credit card number. Lmao, I didn't fall for that one. Don't do it! They're fraudulent businesses. I've already contacted several authorities, including the police and a lawyer, and am just letting people know through reviews while bolstering my paper trail because they've violated their binding agreements on so many angles it's scary. Make sure to involve police on all fronts and keep track of your reference numbers and CAD numbers, always. Good luck!

Long Distance Move.

Worst moving experience ever! I did not pick this company but they were sent to complete my move by Rightway Movers (avoid them too). When they arrived to pick up my items they demanded 3 times the amount that had been quoted. They damaged floors and walls during the move. I had to keep going behind them from room to room because even though I said everything was to go, I would go into a room that was suppose to be done and there would be a chair, or a lamp or a box left behind. Once the truck was loaded they demanded a tip and I felt like my property was being held hostage. When my items eventually arrived many things were damaged, I was missing a kitchen chair (I sent 4 and only received 3). I totally understand why this company has an F BBB rating.

Long-distance move from Virginia Beach, VA to Boulder, CO

Awful. bait and switch. Scam.

I booked and then saw the reviews on here. I tried to cancel and Paul convinced me otherwise. Should of went with my gut and canceled. Worst experience ever. Our condo we were moving out of had set times for move in/outs. They were suppose to show up at 10 am and didn't show up till after 3 pm. They moved slow and took breaks. They didn't finish loading the truck until after 9 pm. We only had a 2 bedroom condo.. Then on top of that the estimate was way off. I walked through my house and told them everything I had, the item sheet was 100% correct down to the very box as we called 4 days prior to the move to update it. The price was quoted at $1200. After they loaded it, they said it would actually be over $3600. On the back end, the contract gave them 21 days and they took 23 days. The truck driver was rude and tried to make up new fees payable in only cash to him. He didn't bring any tools so he couldn't put any furniture back together. Missing boxes, tons of damage items, any thing glass was broken. When I tried to cancel, Paul stated, "you won't find a negative comment mentioning me". So there you have it he's awful and the company is too. Only nice part was the contract unloaders they hired on the back end were nice, mainly because they disliked the truck driver as much as me.

If you've already booked with them cancel now. Even if you'll lose your deposit cancel. They we charge you thousands more than your quote. This company needs to be put out of business. They will be eventually but hate for them to scam anymore people.

They need to be investigated.

We ended up with them by starting with a moving broker who was just as bad (General Movers). You'll never get anyone to call you back. They showed up at our house on Labor Day weekend at 5:30 and called and wanted to know where we were. We were told the day before that they would call and schedule for the following week. Then threatened to charge $500/hr for them waiting. After I threatened to get the police involved they promised to have it here between 10 and 1 today. It's 5 and no one is here yet. They demand payment in cash. I agree with others, they need to be put in jail. I have filed reports with the DOT, FBI, Local Police and Federal Trade Commission. I'm now trying to find and active class action suit to get in on.

DO NOT USE-CRIMINAL!

We have reported them to the better business bureau and the police. They are a company who our move was outsourced to without our knowledge. They extorted $3400 additional from us upon arrival for our out of state move. They already had received a substitute deposit from us so we had no choice, but to give them MORE money. We were told our things would arrive in 5-7 days, but it has been 15 and every number we have been given for them has not worked. We were told our items would never leave the truck and would be on a truck with only 1 other family. That was all a lie.

We are still hoping our stuff eventually arrives, but we have reported them and the outsourcing agency to the BBB and we filed a police report with our lawyers. We drafted our legal complaints only to find that they are REGULARLY REPORTED And check every box for what is considered fraud by the federal government.

If you value your belongings, don't use this place

Never again. First off, I was charged double what I was quoted, and they only told me after the truck was partially loaded. I had no choice but to pay it because I had to be out of my house and there was zero time to use someone else. I knew this was going to be horrible when some of my things were damaged before they even got on the truck. I ended up filing claims for damages to 47 items, many of them antiques. They were not at all careful. Some things were missing, and they brought things that did not belong to me. The workers were very argumentative and were constantly complaining. Masks were not worn when around me. Save yourselves a giant headache and do not use this place!

Long-distance move from Westminster, CA to Madison, AL

Terrible Experience

The moving company we hired, Marathon Moving Logistics (out of Florida) used Moving Express and Storage to pick up my mom's things for her move from California to Northwest Alabama.

Before I had a chance to investigate Marathon Moving Logistics, my mom had given them a down payment. I thought it was high for her downsized, one-bedroom at $4,700. Still, I inventoried her things and gave them an accurate assessment, along with pictures and measurements.

I tried to get answers about arrival time from Moving Express . . . but no one EVER answers the phone and the voicemail system is ALWAYS filled.

Moving Express and Storage came four days later than Marathon's estimated time because "the truck broke down in Arizona." OK. Not a pleasant wait, but things happen. Moving Express sent two people. Cham was the one who dealt with money. Even after my accurate accounting of the items, he said we had to pay an extra $1,200 that day. Unbelievable. I argued that it was Marathon's mistake if there was an error in the estimate. We went back and forth for about 2 hours. Cham was relentless. He said to me, "Haven't you ever moved before?" as if it is the most common thing in the world to be charged far more than expected on moving day. He called his boss who arbitrarily decided to *only* charge us an extra $700 that day. Completely defeated, we paid. The company's credit card system was down, so we had to go to the bank to get a cashier's check. Ugh.

Interestingly, there was another guy who was there to pack things up with Cham and stayed out of the money talk altogether. When away from Cham, he was asked if this happened often. He said that some people argue, "but most people just pay the money." Obviously, charging outrageous amounts of extra money on moving day is customary for Moving Express and Storage.

It took 16 days to get there, which is long, but not out of the ordinary. They took the stuff from California to New Jersey, stored it in their warehouse(s), and then took it to Alabama. Strange logistics, but whatever...

These were the problems on the delivery end:

*Broken items in carefully packed boxes

*Gouges in 3-piece bookcase that were NOT there before

*Hanging clothes piled in the bottom of box with hangers

*Worst of all -- the boxes REEKED of cigarette smoke (perhaps from the warehouse or warehouses they were stored in before being transported?)

My frail, 82 year old mom (on a fixed income) is VERY allergic to cigarette smoke. So, after all this, we had to get a powerful air purifier and smoke-eliminating spray just to deal with the overwhelming, stale smoke smell. The people at her new assisted-living residence were appalled, as am I.

What a lousy experience.

Please learn from our mistakes and do NOT hire Moving Express and Storage or Marathon Moving Logistics to handle your move. Save money and heartache.

**Please note that the moving company is NOT Marathon Moving Services. That is an entirely different company.

Dishonest cheaters unscrupulous

We contracted with Priceline, but once they got their money, they washed their hands. They sub-contracted to a crooked company Moving Forward Express, out of New Jersey.

They didn't know what was going on. The day of pick up, they told me they didn't have us even on the schedule to be picked up. After many phone calls they admitted it was the company they contracted with.

They would not get to the bottom of the issue of an additional $750 increase. They wouldn't back their quote. They said that contractors will sometimes raise their prices if Priceline didn't charge enough. At this point everything was loaded on the truck. MFE, loaders told my son that he padded the goods loaded because he had to make some money. He padded his quote by 100 cubic feet. They charged for stairs, which were included in our quote. The day before MFE arrived the raised the price by $350, because they said they had to transfer our hoods from a semi truck to a box truck. It was a lie, it was never on a semi. It had only been on box trucks. When they arrived they threatened to take our stuff to Phoenix and leave it there if we didn't pay in cash in full. They would not unload anything. Priceline Logistics, said that we were on our own. They didn't have any more to do with our move. MFE was so rude and unprofessional. The two drivers were cussing and threatening. One of them was yielding a 15 inch knife. The other was storming around screaming and yelling. They were wired.

This move was a nightmare from start to finish. Both companies are horrible.

Horrific Experience

I hired this company in April 2021 for a summer move to Naples, FL. The company was difficult to get representatives on the phone to finalize my move occurring in July. They didn't show on the date we had agreed. Instead, they showed on closing day almost ruining my closing and postponing it. They also were 17 days late per my contract for my delivery date in August. Much of my furniture was scratched and damaged.
