Long-distance move from Washington to Missouri

Too bad you can't give negative stars!

Do NOT use these movers!! Cost listed is only what I have paid so far to move only personal items--no furniture!!
1. As noted by other reviewers, it's bait and switch when getting estimates--count on 1.5 to 2 times what they estimate as the cost. We measured cubic feet and they made us break it into boxes which came out as fewer cubic feet and then they jacked up the cost.
2. I can't count the number of falsehoods given by the sales department--from guaranteed pick up time to availability of your items within 48 hours of contacting the company.
3. I can't reach anyone to get my items. I've been trying for over three weeks to schedule my delivery. I've paid the down payment and pickup and storage costs--now they have my items and most of the money and I have nothing.
4. They charge you a huge service charge to use a credit card and don't tell you until you are making the transaction.
My next steps will be contacting the BBB, FMCSA (DOT), and then possibly filing a claim with AMSA.

Long-distance move from Excelsior, MN to Cambridge, MA

Do Not Use!

Given quote over phone - explained in detail what we wanted moved. When they arrived at our home - it would cost an additional $1000. is box up mattress and cabinet. Gave detailed listing over phone about these items. No mention on phone of additional cost.
Will follow up with my credit card company to void deposit.
All the talk on the call from Taylor at Midwestern how great they are and their Better Business rating is all B.S.!

Long-distance move from Saint Cloud, MN to Las Vegas, NV

If I could give zero stars I would &**DO NOT USE**.

Great salesmen..the worst service EVER experienced.
This move ended up costing $1,000 more than quoted and they would not load or unload without paying the difference. No one responds to phone calls, emails, voicemails (when you can actually leave on - everyone voicemail box seems to be full) once you pay your down payment you have no contact or response from anyone via the main phone number.
You never see an actual 'Midwestern Van Line' driver - they are all contracted help and what is interesting is that their DOT authority is as a carrier not a broker so not sure how they are contracting out the work to be completed.
THEN..to top it off - numerous items / boxes missing and every box was damaged on delivery..bed frame delivered without headboard and the rails require the headboard - so new bedframe has to be purchased. Mattress was special covered and wrapped on pick up - wrapping and cover destroyed on delivery - not sure where this mattress has been. Was told driver that brought load was doing the delivery - but then found out from contractor that did the delivery that my possession were have been in storage for who knows how long. They also delivered to me someone else's boxes - I let them know they were not mine so hopefully those possessions got to the rightful owners. Expensive kitchen equipment and clay pots - all that were bubble wrapped and heavy boxed are all broken and unusable. Missing boxes with tools and household items. I would have been better selling my belonging and buying all new when I arrived - I would have saved money in the long run with all that I am having to replace that I paid a LOT of money to have moved. There is zero regard for your belongings or even speaking to you once they have your money. I have been unable to contact the company regarding any kind of claim so I will be posting on every website / internet chat / BBB that I can find in the hopes that someone else does not have the same unfortunate experience with these scam artists.

Long-distance move from Aurora, CO to Forest Park, IL

Horrible experience, will never use again.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. This is a long review but the short story for anyone shopping moving companies is that this company will swindle you, treat you horribly, and not return phone calls and emails for WEEKS while they have your belongings.

The sales process was very smooth, as any good salesmen can make you feel like the company is trustworthy. We looked at their reviews and decided that we should still move ahead, feeling confident with the rep we dealt with. Once the sale was made, the company went radio silent. I had to reach back out three days before our move to get anyone to discuss our final arrangements. I spoke with someone in QA and we adjusted the final quote (up by over $400) to reflect those changes. On moving day, the driver arrived and said he still believed we'd be at least 300 cubic feet OVER the new quote. We agreed to load to the increased space (at another $1200 above our quoted price) and stop at that point. At that point we still had a full sized couch, 4 burner grill, two end tables, one coffee table and a smattering of smaller items that could not fit. We were unwilling to continue paying for the space. I will add, our revised quote the week of the move INCLUDED all of these things. The company's contract also says they will break down furniture. WRONG. My husband and I broke everything down to consolidate and save space. After the loaders were done, the driver gave us his phone number and said we can call him if we can't get in touch with dispatch to discuss how completely wrong their quote was. The next day (move was on a Sunday) we called our rep within the company to discuss. He didn't answer. My husband called all of the extension lines at home office and there was no answer at any of them. He next called the driver to discover it was a fake phone number. We finally got ahold of our rep, he sounded as shocked as we were (I'm sure he's scalped other movers many times) and that he would raise it to the owners to help us out and see what he could do. That was the last we heard from him. For three weeks we had no contact with the company. We called, we emailed (all documented and saved) and no one responded to us. For three weeks, we were unsure if our belongings were still our own, or if they had been thrown away, sold on eBay, etc.

We still have not heard anything from the company. Our belongings arrived on time and in full, thank goodness. Unfortunately for us, every large piece of furniture has been damaged in some way. The moving company wrapped all of that furniture. And yes, I do have photo proof of each damaged piece. There isn't much we can do since the company doesn't return calls or emails, but I am begging anyone else looking at this company to go elsewhere. Save your money for a better company that won't damage everything.

Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to New York, NY

Bad Bad Company.

NOT GOOD!! Our family moved closer to us.. used this "company" to move them.. Various No responses from them, over 30 days not knowing where their belongings were. Finally a response and said "it should be on it's way". they was not tracking/gps… anything. They received a call the night before it was coming. about 1/4 of their belonging were damaged. Please do not use this company. No loyalty, no responsibility!! I am not sure what the costs were but they had to buy a lot of stuff they already had packed up. Please read these and let put them out of business!!

Long-distance move from Wisconsin to Tennessee

Worst Movers Ever!!

8 weeks of my life have been ruined because of these people!! Firstly I have filed complaints with the BBB/ the Fed Dept of Transportation & the Atty Gen of TN. And, I will keep posting complaints & reviews until this company goes out of business. My reality company is even telling it's clients NOT to use this "Mover".
To Begin--- The Sales process went smoothly, They answered all my questions quickly, returned my calls-- gave a reasonable estimate.. all good. Then came our move.
On our original move date they cancelled due to"driver emergency". Then they were an hour late for the rescheduled time the next day. When we called to inquire about this company we were lied to and told the drivers are all full time employees and the trucks used are also owned and part of their fleet. All untrue-- these drivers are free lance & the trucks are not Midwestern Van Lines property!
The driver & crew that did show were rude, the truck was way too small and they gave us the option to leave belongings or wait an unknown amt of time for a new- larger truck. We ended up leaving a bedroom set & our patio furniture on the curb. We had sold off most of our furniture prior to the move so we really had few large items --and 90 boxes & bins. We were VERY clear with our inventory so we were appalled at this turn of events-- then we were informed it would cost an additional 1,000.00. We were already behind due to the delay -- so we felt we had no choice & continued with the move.
3 weeks after arriving in TN-- I called to get an estimated delivery date. Now, no one would answer my calls or my emails. For the next 4 weeks I called pretty much everyday to check on what was happening. I was told (when they answered) that a driver needed to be assigned, or a driver was assigned ( but had truck issues) or most commonly I was informed they had 30 business day to get us our things-- And told so very rudely!
5 weeks after our move we had to go out of town.. I called as I was concerned our things would arrive when we were gone. I was told they couldn't tell me if they would be delivering during that time-- but, if they did & we were not here to accept-- they would stick our things in a "to be determined " storage facility and we would need to claim them & move them ourselves. My grandmother was turning 100 and it was important we be there. So we asked a new neighbor (we didn't even know) to watch for them & gave her the keys & balance of $ just in case!
We didn't have an issue while we were gone-- so upon our return I again started calling. Verbally we were told ( and the contract stated ) delivery would most likely be in 21 days. However, their standard answer to my calls was 21 BUSINESS Days-- BUT also as LONG AS 30 Business days if needed. After 30 Business Days I went to my local police dept. to report our items as stolen. They were unable to help me, but indicated I should hire an atty. I called again to inform them they were now in breach of contract & I would be suing them. Suddenly, I was told they would credit me $30 for each day they were over--and they suddenly had a driver!!
So FINALLY after 7 1/2 weeks without our things a driver called and said he would be delivering on Friday evening. AND we needed to pay balance in CASH. He did arrive @ 8:30 pm and it was 10 and dark by the time the finished.
Let me just say--- we have an RV-- and it is just my husband and I & our dog. I do not have a job yet---so WE were Very Lucky that we had a mattress to sleep on, cooking supplies, basic living essentials---how would a normal family depending on these items survive?? It's unbelievable!!
In the end our things did come, we had many broken items, missing items and at this point we will be filing additional claims for those things.. all I can say is if you are looking to move DO NOT LOOK HERE!! And for those of you that were treated with the same disdain & disrespect we & our belongings were FILE FILE FILE complaints to EVERYONE!! This Company should not be left to prey on innocent people!!

Long-distance move from West Liberty, IA to Tacoma, WA

Worse experience.

Please!! Do not contact these movers. They will make it nice and sweet give you a lower quote and make it seem you won’t be paying additional fees. We had a horrible experience. I explained very clearly the size and numbers of rooms, including everything in it. As well with the glass and fragile furniture. The representative made it clear that the amount was a guaranteed and swelled amount. Once the movers came the day of moving. The wanted to add and additional 2,000 dollars. Due to stating that the fragile stuff was not added to the contract and everything I stated in the rooms where not placed on the order. This added so much stress can you imagine. I had to sell my stuff in one day. I wasn’t going to pay 2,000 extra and the contract was selled. I rather get new furniture then have to pay 2,000 more. The movers where very nice. The agency it self horrible. Customer service extremely rude as well. Please don’t add more stress with this movers.

Long-distance move from Milwaukee, WI to Los Angeles, CA

Caution.

I have never felt the need to review any company before, but I need to warn future potential customers about the horrible service they may receive. Midwestern Van Lines promised that I would receive my items in 5 to 21 days (which then turned into 21 business days which then turned into 30 business days). I called them once a week for the first couple weeks, and it was extremely difficult to get ahold of anyone (sometimes I would call 10 to 12 times each day until I finally spoke to a person). When I left several voicemails, nobody ever called me back. All they could tell me when I called was that a driver had not yet been assigned. It took 31 days until a driver was assigned.

I finally received my items 37 days after they were picked up. Overall, they were in good shape, but I did notice a large scratch on my coffee table. I would recommend paying the extra money for a reputable company that won't give you the run-around and take over a month to deliver. I regret my decision to use Midwestern Van Lines - if I done more extensive research, I would have seen the scathing reviews on the web.

Local move within Minnesota

A Nightmare.. Have Had Our Stuff 2 Months.

It took them three days to pack a three bedroom house. They didn't show up or come back etc. WE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED RIGHT THERE. Then they told us we should move our delivery date out because it would be a fast delivery which was a trick to push our delivery date over another weekend as they have 30 work days to delivery which they are are OVER anyways. We were told the same truck it was loaded into would bring it to FL from MN. NOPE. The sales man said this company is out of New Jersey, but looks like its out of Miami or maybe the owners are in New Jersey. Raul our salesman didn't return calls when we found out our stuff would be stored in MN for weeks before it was brought down by another truck. NEVER returned our calls and didn't care. I am scared to see what is broken. Paid $15k a mess. Sell your stuff and take that money to buy new stuff. Drive your own truck for your special items. what a nightmare.

Long-distance move from Des Moines, IA to Rochester, NY

Scammers.

If there was a negative star, I'd would give them that.
They took 50 days to deliver my stuff. Very rude staff. The sales person "Taylor" told me that they were A+ with BBB, it turned out to be D-. The mother company is based on Miami not Denver or Illinois.
The initial estimate was 3600, when they showed up 2 days after the confirmed date they changed to to 6100$ !!
Don't even think to go with them. Stay away!!
Big scammers.
