WARNING: AVOID LONG DISTANCE MOVERS, INC AT ALL COSTS!!
To make a long story short, Long Distance Movers, INC is unreliable, unprofessional and they are only concerned with your money. They really do not care about the quality moves and great rates that they promise. I am out a $1600 deposit because their driver couldn't show up on time and I was forced to find emergency movers to move my family instead. Continue reading or feel free to reach out to me so I can share my experience with you.
As cliche as this sound, I would totally give negative stars if I could. Our failed attempted to move with Long Distance Movers, INC was a stressful nightmare and I would highly advise against using these guys for anything at all.
We thought our quote was great and decided to utilize their services. The salesman pitched a great game and we were fully confident we would have a quality move.
During our quote, we were provided a window of 2 days that the mover would show up. The mover, assigned to me by Long Distance Movers, INC., failed to meet his window. After an entire days worth of failed attempts to reach the driver (or anyone at Long Distance Movers, INC), the driver contacted me to let me know he would not be able to make his window. We worked it out with our landlord to where we could stay another day since the movers would be late.
The following day, I receive another phone call from the driver saying that he is going to be a few hours late again for his newly proposed window. This trend continues for a while until the driver pushes his window back into the next day. In addition to being tardy, the driver also explained to me that he really needed to be on the east coast and would be there "with or without" my stuff. This was even before we decided to go with a different company.
We needed to be out of our house and were forced to find different movers.
According to Long Distance Movers, INC, even though they failed to fulfill their end of the deal and provide me with services that I paid for, I "canceled outside of my window" and "refused pick-up when the driver arrived" which means that I apparently, willingly forfeited my entire deposit.
If you are reading this, do yourself a favor and DO NOT USE LONG DISTANCE MOVERS, INC.
This company deserves ZERO stars. I don’t even know where to begin. What they are doing is basically FRAUD. It’s as bad of a scam as it gets. I’m only writing this to save you from getting yourself into a mess. Run as fast as you can far far away from these people. They will cheat you out of your money. Here is my story…hopefully you can learn from my mistake and save yourself.
I read the reviews before signing with them. I thought, well, let’s see if it’s really the case. They can’t be THAT bad, right? No one can be THAT bad. Boy was I wrong. I was moving from a 4 bedroom house into another 4 bedroom house. I spoke with one of their sales people, Mark, and spent hours on the phone. He must have called me a dozen times. We went over every single detail of the items that I have. I mentioned every last piece of inventory in my home. For some reason, it is too difficult for them to hear what you are telling them, and write it down, regardless of how many times you tell them.
Then, after hours of talking to them, you get an estimate. Let me be clear about this. THIS IS NOT AN ESTIMATE. It’s not even a guestimate. When the actual movers came out to move the stuff, on MOVING DAY, they give you an entirely different estimate. The movers game me an estimate of that was around $3,000 more than what LDM gave me as an estimate. Plus, you end up spending about $1,300-$1,500 free just so they guarantee your cost doesn’t go above your estimate. Well guess what, I might as well had thrown that money down the toilet because it didn’t do jack. Of course, on moving day, your choices are limited because you now are in the position to need to move your stuff, or lose your $2,000 deposit.
And that’s just the beginning…. I haven’t even gotten to the real problems.
On moving day you learn that it is some 3rd party movers that LDM hires to move your stuff. These guys came to my door and had no idea what was going on. They don’t come on the days they are supposed to. They didn’t show up on their 2 day window when we were actually home from work anticipating them. They came on days when we had to be at work. And they won’t even telly you that they are not coming. They will just make you wait until the sun has set and you realize there’s no way they can make it now. When they did come the next day, they didn’t know that my moving INCLUDED packing. Some random guys showed up to my house asking me what’s going on and where’s my truck. WHERE’s MY TRUCK?!?! Are you kidding me? You pay $10,000+ for a move and some random people ring your bell asking you where your truck is.
Apparently they hired some random guys from somewhere (probably Craigslist) or something to help with the move. These are your “professional movers.” Then the guy with the truck shows up. Again, no one has any idea that they are supposed to be packing. Not only that, NO ONE even knows how to pack. They went to home depot or something and just bought some boxes. Keep in mind, I had paid 10,000 for professional movers and this is what I’m getting. And get this - my packaging estimate was $800, and they charged me $1,700 for packing. My nanny was there and I couldn’t be there since they didn’t show up on the days they were supposed to. I spoke to the guy on the phone about how the packing is going, and he said everything is packed instead of the kitchen, and he estimates that it will cost an additional $1,000 for the kitchen. (Seriously, $1,000 for the kitchen).
And the worst has yet to come….
For $1,000 for kitchen packing, plus $700 for packing the rest of house, I was expecting some serious packing. NOPE. All they did was buy some medium and large size boxes from home depot or wherever, and threw whatever they could find in the house inside these boxes. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, inside these boxes was packed correctly. The dishes were just wrapped in paper but not those bubble wraps that you would expect when you pay $10,000-$11,000 on a move. The dishes and utensils and everything just tossed into boxes. There was glass on glass, hitting each other. There were ZERIO warddrobe boxes used, although in my contract it says I paid for a bunch of them. There were ZERO dish and glass boxes for the kitchen that was used - and I paid for a LOT of them. And I paid all that and got none of it.
I paid over $10,000 for professinoal movers, and I got some guy on craigslist that literally dumped everything into boxes and taped it up an tossed it in the truck. I had broken lamps, scratched up couches and dining tables, broken chairs, nice suits and dress shirts/pants all wrinkled - now have to take all these to the dry cleaners. Not to mention - I still don’t know why all my stuff smells bad. What is up with that?
And get this…not only did they show up on a later day than promised, they also arrived at the new home on a different day than promised. I spoke to the mover for hours on the day when they were supposed to be there and he was adamant that they would be there and that they MUST empty the truck on that day. He was so adamant that I had to leave work early to get money orders and change my entire week’s schedule around to accommodate his schedule. And later I find out that the entire time he knew that they weren’t going to make it that day.
Not to mention, all the hours I spent on the phone with LDM, on hold, trying to resolve the issues in real-time, and all you really get are people who make up excuses for their behavior. “Oh, you must have had more stuff that’s why they are charging you more for packing.” Mum, NO. In fact, I actually have less stuff. I moved a bunch of stuff myself in a car the week before. (I didn’t trust these people with my priceless items so I decided to move that myself, and thank God I did).
When you spend $10,000+ on a move, you expect them to take care of everything from beginning to the end. But each step of the way was a huge headache. Not to mention if you pay $11,500, about $3,000 more than what you were initially supposed to be paying.
Oh, and by the way, they didn’t even move all my stuff. The movers FORGOT a bunch of things, for which I now have to wait another couple of months to get. Many of those things are very important. And oh yea, get this…I have to PAY MORE to get those things moved. What a bunch of losers. This is really just fraud. I think I should file a fraudulent claim.
Working with Long Distance Movers (LDM) was such a headache. TIf you don’t have time to do the moving yourself, then you definitely don’t have time to deal with all these people. I hate that I had to pay about $11,000 for the most unprofessional move I’ve ever experienced.
I don’t even know the people reading this review, but I wouldn’t wish this on my worse enemy. Please, unless you completely hate yourself, stay far far away from this company. I just couldn’t believe the reviews and being my crazy self, I thought, well, let’s just try it and see what happens. I should have taken other people’s advice. When you touch fire, it burns. Don’t try it, take my word for it.
Oh, and yea, there are many other things that went wrong too, but I realize this can go on for a while. So i’ll just leave it at that.
I will try to keep this short and I am hoping to save some people who are looking for a decent moving company.
Do NOT work with them! Even if you decide to work with them, you won't be able to because this is NOT a real moving company. They will hire another company (in my case they hired NW Relocation) and other company does the real work.
The company that they hired, had no idea about the promises, delivery or pick up dates.
After I contacted with them online, Chris McGarry (Senior Moving Coordinator) called me almost everyday sometimes twice a day to reserve a pick up day. After I paid 870$ and ''reserved'' the pick up date, he disappeared.
He took that money and he left me with another moving company which had no idea about that pick up date and delivery time.
Although I paid for reserving the pick up date, no body showed up because real moving company had no idea about that reservation.
I though LDM was a decent company and. I trusted them about the delivery date (I was promised June,19th -before I start my new job- but it was also a lie that he told me just to get my reservation money) So just before starting to my dream job, all of my clothes were another state and I was sleeping on my dog's bed.
I ended up getting my stuff weeks later and in the meantime my main contact was the NW relocation. They didn't lie and they told me they can only delivery in June which they did.
LDM inc will tell anything just to get your money after you hire them they will disappear and some random moving company will be doing the real work.
Since you won't be working with them anyway, just save yourself and find a real company.
They don't even deserve 1 star and this company is scam.
I chose this moving company because of the friendly service I received and the verbal assurance that my things would arrive in my new state soon after I arrived. The customer service agent I booked services with recommended I have my things picked up several days before I moved to MAKE SURE they would have my things in my new state when I arrived. They gave me a quote that they insisted would be far more expensive than my actual quote on sight with the movers. I had no idea how many boxes I would have, but the agent insisted that he was overestimating. I told him that I was a teacher and would have boxes and items from my classroom in addition to the things from my home. I repeatedly referenced that I have a lot of clothes and books and other things, but he insisted his estimate was more than I would be bringing. With his original estimate of $1657.89 as an overestimate of what I should be charged, I felt that was a reasonable price. However, the day the movers showed up, my new quote was revised to be $2256.73. I understood that I had more things than estimated, but I was very frustrated that the original customer service agent repeatedly insisted that he was overestimating how much I would be moving.
When I arrived in my new state, I had not heard from the moving company so I assumed they were on time for my move, as I was assured they would be. On my first available drop date (6/12), I expected to be receiving a call that my movers were here and ready to unload. When that did not happen, I called to check on the status of my things. I was shocked to learn that they were in storage and had not been moved since the day they were picked up. I would never have had my things picked up early if they were not going to arrive on time. Now, the company has had my things in storage for 32 days and there is still no truck heading in my direction to bring my things to me.
I was told a few days ago that the truck would be arriving soon and my things should be loaded onto a truck and heading to me on 7/7. That customer agent told me to call on 7/7 to verify that my things were loaded. I called customer service 3 times on 7/7. They took down my information each time and no one returned my call to tell me where my things were. I called 2 times on 7/8 to check on my things. Again, they took down my information and no one returned my call. I called on 7/9 and received confirmation that the truck never arrived and my things are still in storage.
I was verbally assured by the original customer service agent that I would have my things on 6/12. In reading my contract, I discovered the company has until 7/12 to deliver my items, which was never mentioned by anyone in the customer service department. Now, it is 7/9 and my things are still in storage. I have been told it is very unlikely my things will arrive by 7/12, which is the latest they are supposed to be delivered, according to the contract. The company will begin owing me $25-30/day for each day beyond that that they keep my things. That is a pathetic amount of compensation for misleading me into believing I would have my things within a week and actually taking more than a month to deliver my things.
I would highly recommend finding a different moving company. The customer service agents who get you to sign are misleading and dishonest. There is hardly any incentive for them to deliver your things within the required 30 days. I have been incredibly frustrated by this experience, and it is still not over. I still do not have any of my furniture or boxes and I still have absolutely no idea when my things are expected to arrive. I strongly suggest anyone considering Long Distance Movers finds a different company.
I hired this company to conduct a cross country move. I hired what I thought was a moving company. But this is not a moving company but a moving broker. Which they don’t tell you. I paid them my deposit for my move then they subcontracted another scam of a company Golden Globe Movers. They do not research who they hire and once the actual mover picks up your goods This company disappears with your hard earn money. They company they contract for my move isn’t even legally by federal law due to their DOT# allowed to cross state lines with goods. But that does matter to Long Distance Movers Inc. The company parting line is we just find a mover and how much that mover charges you and how they move your goods is not our problem we already been paid. They were no help trying to solve my issues with the mover they contracted for the job and never returned my calls. Now I have a mover holding my house hold goods hostage and Long Distance Movers Inc is no where to be found. Do not work with these people or, like me be out $3200 and not have my house hold goods. They are a scam. I have filed complaints with every local state a federal agency possible.
I was not expecting the relocation service would be like this.
I was promised my item would be delivered with 7-14 business days, the reality was from the pick up date to the delivery day: 38 days. I called several times to customer services during June, nobody told me the truth. My stuff waited in NJ warehouse more than 30 days and it only took the driver less than a week from NJ-TX(7/2-7/8). After the delivery date, after opening all the boxes and checked on all items, I realized I lost several boxes of item and few small furniture. So I contacted the customer service again and was told they were not late for delivery since they came during the 21 days business day time framework. Why there was nobody never mentioned about this date when I signed the contract? I did not hear any voice from the contact with customer service shown they are willing to help BUT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY OFFER FROM THEIR SHOULDERS. They told me they will let me know when they hear any updates, but they never call. So I have to contact them again. I lost the items value than $1500, and they said they are willing to compensation $150..So think again before you choose the service.
DO NOT USE long distance movers. Terrible every step of the way!
DO NOT USE long distance movers!! DO NOT! DO NOT! DO NOT! They did a move for us a few months ago.
-Price went from under $5000 to $7283. Then they tried to make me pay another $500 something at pickup saying if not they can raise the price again at drop off.
-They charge by weight which seemed standard. They estimated over the phone saying my items like tables and sofas were 200-500 pounds. A lot of my items were maybe 20% of that actual weight they estimated for. They told me not to worry because they weigh the truck when it's loaded to get the exact weight and legally have to give me the signed paper with the official weight. They will get the final price off of that information..My quote was supposed to be for the most the move could possibly cost not actually cost.
-They refused to give me the signed form with the official weight at drop off
-Refused to give me any money back
-delivery guy said I was a few thousand pounds under the estimate so I should get some money back and to call the office about it
-Called and left messages. No one would call me back about it.
-A day before the delivery I was trying to get exact numbers and they told me..
1) I could no longer pay with a card and had to have cash at dropoff
2) If I can't pay cash by the next day they are going to put my belongings in storage for atleast a month and charge me an additional storage fee. Refused to give me exact weight of my belongings and just kept threatening me with more expenses.
Besides the frustration of them over charging me
-the pick up crew came 6.5 hrs late (they did a good job though)
-drop off crew took 11 hours to unload my things. keep in mind my home is barely over 2000 sq ft. (not very big). Also a lot of our furniture is from ikea so not heavy at all.
-4 hrs into it they were dying and looked sick.
-they left majority of our boxes in the garage so we had to carry them into our designated rooms. Tried leaving some dressers and other furniture in there as well but we asked them before they left to put those in the rooms.
-my husband put together most of the beds that they were supposed to put together
-They kept disappearing and would come back talking about how they were taking a break in the truck playing fortnite and watching youtube videos on it. I couldn't believe they would admit to something like that.
-because they were so fatigued they kept dropping things like bed frames down the stairs and hitting it into the walls.
-We have dings in our walls, dings in out railing. Both which we had just painted, and scuffed up floors.
-Also some off our things are broken. Like my son's wooden bed, arcade basketball hoop, sons wooden chair..
Anyways I could go on and on about how horrible they are! I just hope you will save your money, sanity, time, and belongings by not hiring them!
I've just started and will write another review after the move.
I haven't moved yet but am so upset with this company and myself. The original cost list was $1700 MORE from the orginal quote when I got the final inventory call yesterday. I realized that some items were left off, mainly a few totes which I which should NOT have added that much more cost and then he said they would need a bigger truck, costing me more. When I talked with the first guy for the original quote and checked off my own list.. he prompted me to sign the contract and pay while I was on the phone.. BIG MISTAKE. If I had taken a breath and gone over what he listed on HIS inventory in the email I would have double checked the inventory.. and realized the UNDER QUOTE and would have continued looking for another moving company. I'm not sure if he left off some items (like a heavy lazy boy and heavy garden stuff) on purpose.. these items were checked off on my OWN list when he went over the items verbally with me. So now it's too late to call and cancel.. but lessons learned .. NEVER sign until you've gone over the inventory list and compare what they send in the quote. Again.. I know I have my OWN checklist of inventory that I went over with him on the phone on the original quote and I have checked off items we went over VERBALLY on the phone but when I got the final call there were things left off.. I didn't notice on the email so I take responsibility for that..I'm so darn busy I felt comfortable at the time everything was VERY close in inventory. BUT the biggest mistake was paying for it after the VERBAL check. Now they are coming in two days to move me and I'll write another review after the move and see if they provide the service they said they would. The customer service gave me a 300 credit.. big deal. I was just about to call my credit card company for the original payment and say fraud because of the items left off.. but as I said I signed while I was on the phone with him and that was my biggest mistake. Do not sign until you take a breath and go over everything in the email of original inventory list. I ALSO plan to FOLLOW the van to the weigh station and see what the final weight is because now I don't trust them.
I booked the movers 1 month in advance and they quoted me a certain price. I gave them a deposit. When it came time for them to come and get my things they tripled the price. I had no choice to change, they would not give me my deposit back. I wound up leaving all my furniture behind. Gave some away and sold a couple of pieces, only had 2 days before closing on my house. When the movers came that they sent, they said I had to pay extra. I was suppose to have my belongings in 2 weeks. It was a tad over a month that my belongings were put into a storage unit. When I finally did get into my home 6 months later and got the boxes unpacked, I found out only to my demise that we are missing about 10 boxes of sentimental items. I am 70 years old and my son is handicapped. I can replace what I am missing, however the items they took from my son he had been collecting since he was very young and meant quite a bit to him and cannot be replaced. Who takes things from an old lady and a crippled young man. Not just overpricing but to take their items. They say what goes around comes around. Please go find another moving company. Do not trust these people.
Do not use LDM. Original price quoted was $4,500. Final cost $9,100. When my items were delivered the only person on the semi was the driver. My son and I helped him unload the semi. He did not put together the item that had been disassembled and then was in a hurry to get going. The driver, my son, and I spent 5 hours unloading and my son put most items together. The driver just wanted the money and then paid my son $100. Driver was unprofessional. I told him that a picture he put in my house was not mine, he said you can keep it or I will throw it away. Totally unprofessional, they don't care about your property, they just want your money. I am missing hardware to put my furniture back together, they threw fans, tools, etc. on top of my clothes in the wardrobe boxes. Glassware is broken, picture frames broken, and kitchen table has a large gash in it. LDM and the company they hired for me, US Movers, are a disgrace to the industry. Don't hire them unless you want you poor service, double the price quoted, and unprofessionalism. Be prepared to unload you own stuff like we had to do.
