Beware of The Levic Overcharge Scam

This company is HORRIBLE to deal with and has a great scam going. They quote you a per cubic sq/ft fee and then show up with an undersized truck and tell you that it holds far more than it actually does. Here's my story...

I contracted with Levic Moving and Storage dba "Levic Van Lines" to move all my household possession from Los Angeles, CA to Boulder, CO at a rate of 4.55 sq/ft. On April 26, 2021, Levic showed up with a moving truck they claimed was "26 feet long."

Near the end of the packing, it became clear that all my belongings would not fit in their truck – even though the 26’ truck used was based on the Levic calculation of all my itemized household goods (estimate was 275 items, actual was 265 items). The movers left 2 to 3 feet of unused space at the top of the first truck and called in a 2nd truck to accomodate the supposed overage. The result: even though I received Binding Estimate of $7,000, I was charged $12,100 on the day of the move - after the truck were fully packed.

Amazingly, all belongings arrived in ONE Penske 26’ truck. Per the Penske website, their 26’ truck has a capacity of 1,700 cubic square feet. The math is simple: The amount quoted was $4.55 cu/sq/ft times 1,700 sq/ft = $7,735. Subtract the discount offered by Levic in the Binding Estimate of $833.95 and add the fuel surcharge fee of $501.85 and the storage fee of $225 and the amount comes to $7,627.90, not $12,100, an overcharge of $4,472.10. Levic clearly sent a truck less than 26’ packed it inefficiently and then used the scam to overcharge me on the day of the move and after everything had been loaded in their trucks.

Levic also promised delivery on 7/1/21 and showed up on 7/8/21 costing me $699.33 in lost rent.

Finally, Levic broke and lost items totaling $1,050 as confirmed and signed off on the Bill of Lading by the movers who arrived with my goods.

If you were scammed the way I was, I urge you to file a complaint with the BBB, the Bureau of Household Goods and Services, the U.S. Department of Transportation: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the FMCSA, and on as many of these sites as possible. This company is unethical, fraudulent, and virtually unresponsive (I logged over 50 calls without a return call).

Note that Levic Van Lines is the business name for Levic Moving and Storage located at 201 KING OF PRUSSIA ROAD SUITE 650, WAYNE PA 19087 when filing complaints.

Official company response

We apologize for the inconvenience with your move. Mr. Langford received a binding price prior to loading, the contract states a flat fee, David the Forman at the job site never told him we need one or two trucks!

When we arrived at the warehouse we were able to consolidate everything on one truck, its much easier to load in the warehouse than it is at a job site, but at no time did we write anything about CF we provided a binding price inclusive everything, shuttle material and quantity of items and boxes.

We are trying to explain everything to Mr. Langford but today it’s a tool to blast all on internet!
We believe we haven’t done anything wrong regarding this shipment. If its okay with Mr. Langford we will like to upload all paperwork.

The review

10/10 would not recommend this company. At first it was a great experience, the lady I worked with (Amy) seemed to be very informative about what I was getting myself Into. We have never moved this big of a distance so it was obviously already stressful and the thought of a company I’ve never heard about was a bit worse.(Should’ve just bought a uhaul and did everything myself) I was quoted around $1300 for everything, signed the contract and everything. I was warned about the amount of stairs being more than ten it would cost more and I was fine with that. I had my date set for pick up two weeks before we leave to a whole new state. Well I get a call almost a month before and Amy is asking if they can pick our stuff up earlier because of holiday season and everyone is moving etc. to ENSURE that we get our stuff at our by our move in date which was a month later. I honestly didn’t mind a month I understood during these circumstances that would be necessary. So the day the movers come (David &Tony) they show up an hour after the time given to me (between 8-11) so they show up at 12. They were friendly but destructive a bit with our bedroom items and my walls. They did take the time to ensure my tv’s were completely protected which was wonderful as they weren’t broken when we got them. During that time though I got charged an additional $250 for two extra stairs and then walking a little more than 150 feet. I was also told that the process Amy explained for pickup was wrong and that I didn’t get to choose my date. I was starting to get stressed finding out that the contract I signed pretty much meant nothing. So now comes time for us to move a month later and we are supposed to receive a call 24hrs before our drop off. I also was told they deliver in a semi trailer so us moving into apartments made that impossible and we would have to pay for a shuttle. Another $500-$600 for that but I chose to have it dropped off at my family’s house. (Which I now had to load my own stuff) and still pay for a trailer to take it from point A to point B. I’m now at $2000 dollars for this. There was no communication from the dispatch team unless I constantly contacted them just to get some kind of response which was always vague. Now we are two more weeks into our new move (so a month and a half later) we finally get the call about our stuff coming. The company that dropped off(apparently an outside company that Levic Van Lines uses) continuously complained in front of myself and my family about the heavy boxes we had and we couldn’t verify any of our things before they unloaded and we paid them. Not to mention my Fiancé was helping them as well because of all the complaining.Come to find our our coffee table was missing and my dresser and nightstand were damaged along with kitchen stuff. Absolutely way more stressful of an experience than just loading it ourselves and taking it. Only saved $500 and added on consistent stress for almost two months of waiting.

Long-distance move from Florida to Oregon

Levic van lines

Levic van Lines packed up a small amount of furniture in early February in Wellington, Florida for shipment to Portland, Oregon. It was for my step-daughter and they required a "cash tip" to load the furniture which she paid.

I paid a moving deposit on February 3, 2021; shortly therafter Levic demanded to be paid in full before "dispatching" the shipment. Payment occurred via wire transfer to Levic's BOA account (March 2021) after obtaining a written invoice (which was not easy to obtain) for documentation. Wire transfer has been verified, both with BOA and Levic.

4 months later - still no furniture. When I contact dispatch no one seems to know what is happening and promise to follow-up; so far no furniture has been delivered despite sending copies of the invoice accompanied by the paid wire transfer from BOA.

I would avoid this company if at all possible. I called again today and a new phone person promised to investigate once dispatch returns from "lunch."

Long-distance move from Woodside, NY to Sun City Center, FL

Don’t Do it

At first Amy Houston was helpful. Once I made the first payment I never heard from Amy again. I give them 1 star because the pick up was on time. But the delivery was 7 days late, and my brand new couch arrived wet and ripped. There were 4 boxes drenched the shoes, the linen and appliances in them were also drenched in water. I picked this company because it was the cheapest one I found ($2800). however with the loss of a $3k couched, designer shoes and appliances I wish I had made a different decision. This company changes their name often so reviews like this one doesn’t affect them. I know how stressful moving is, but do yourself a favor don’t go with this company. I moved from NYC to Florida and this place is horrible. DONT DO IT. I wish I could write a google review. But can’t find the way to do so. I will be reporting this company to the BBB.

Long-distance move from Pittsburgh, PA to Ann Arbor, MI

Just avoid - Shattered TV, refuse to move items and charge $400 extra

My move from Pittsburgh, PA to Ann Arbor, MI was a disastrous experience. Don't trust when they say they have their own trucks. The movers I got drove a truck with the "A1A Moving" label printed on the truck. At first, everything felt nice. I contacted Amy and she was pretty responsive. But once I paid the $300 initial deposit everything became different. The inventory I reported to Amy doesn't count. The movers just refuse to move my exact same list of items as I reported to Amy accurately, unless I pay them $400 more dollars (initial quote given my inventory list was $2,100). I ended up not moving some of my items including a queen bed and mattress and a chair. Note that they only tell you that when at the last minute when you have no other choice except to comply. If you contact the company at this point, expect them to tell you that "Amy is at the sales department, we are at dispatch and we decide everything". And Amy became unreachable at this point - my calls go to voice mail every time (at least 8 times).

At the destination, according to the contract, 16 flights of stairs = $75 dollars (first 8 stairs included, then $75 per 8 additional stairs). But then the movers would tell you that they will only drop the items on the ground if you don't pay $150. Again, I had no choice but to comply.

Worst of all, I opened my TV and found it completely shattered. I had to buy a new one.

If you want to be treated like a prisoner, suffer through unresponsive and inconsistent customer service, be charged $400 extra, and have a shattered TV, choose Levic Van Lines. Otherwise, you deserve better than this in your life.

ZERO STARS

This company is to put it plainly, evil. They lie to you up front about costs and delivery. Like many have mentioned, Amy was involved in the initial quote and sale. Do not believe a word she says. They had my stuff in storage for over a month. I called every week and was told the first week it was loaded on a truck waiting to be taken. Then the truck needed repairs, to call back Monday. Called back Monday and was told that wasn’t true, the driver was actually in the hospital. Call back next Monday. Called back and the truck had actually never been loaded and my stuff was still in storage in Miami. Another week goes by and nothing. Finally call and am told a driver is on his way from TX. A week later I was told my stuff was loaded and it would be 5-7 days before delivery. It arrived 2 days later, (I know great news you’d think) but they refused to wait to deliver until I was off work. So I had to leave my brand new job to meet their movers. If I did not they were threatening to leave my stuff outside, and still charge me extra, or to put my stuff in storage and charge me extra. This all after they misquoted me originally and charged me $3000 more, and after waiting over a month to get my stuff. I can not express how rude, cold, and disrespectful the employees are. They will lie through their teeth about everything, and even tell you previous employees you talked to lied to you. I was cursed at, screamed at, and threatened. They LITERALLY do not care about you, or your things. Boxes arrived ripped, squashed, and open. About the only positives were the people they contract to actually do the loading and unloading of the truck, both were very nice. I feel terrible that they work for a company that cares so little for not only them, but also their clients. Bottom line, DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!! Pay extra and go with a company like UPack, you’ll end up paying the difference with fees and extra costs. You can only pay in ways you can’t dispute later which they know you will. They also basically blackmail you for more money after they have your stuff, and that contract you signed prevents you from doing a thing about it. BEWARE AND DO NOT USE LEVIC VAN LINES!!!!

Long-distance move from San Jose, CA to Delray Beach, FL

Held item hostage and refused to respond

This company (Levic Moving and Storage / Levic VanLines USDOT #3208892, MC 01001604, 500 NE 190St Miami FL 33179 / 201 King of Prussia Road, #650, Wayne PA 19087, Phone 267 360 6401, 855 785 3133) is a SCAM. Stay as far away as possible! They do not have their own truck as advertised, their Sales people disappear the moment the movers come to pick your belongings, hold goods hostage, charge you significantly more than agreed upon. Do not trust any of their reviews without checking out people's profile - They are all FRAUD PAID reviews given by students sitting in different parts of the world who have no reason to move belongings in the US.

Background - We had to move cross country from CA to Florida during the Dec 2021 holidays. After researching multiple companies, we decided to go with Levic based on their Sales person Gaby's attention to detail , their quote, them not being brokers and owning their truck fleet and overall reviews on multiple sites. We ensured that we itemized every item we had down to the T with measured dimensions for each item to get an exact quote before the move.

Our first reach out for quotes is attended to by Gaby (Previously Amy) in late November'21. Gaby sounds like a patient, detailed and committed Salesperson. She goes through the inventory in detail and works on our quote. Over the next few days she follows up persistently as we work through editing our belongings.

Gaby commits to our stuff reaching us in 10 days from the pick up date till the morning of the move.

Day of move - More than half way into loading the truck, the manager Sol tells us that we will exceed the Cu.ft quoted to us by Gaby by 150-200 and would need to pay $2000+more. We are SHOCKED. We continue to try to reach Gaby but she has disappeared. She has not responded to 30 calls/ 20 emails over the next 20+ days. The manager loading our belongings can get through to Levic but we cannot!!

The movers load our belongings. Stuck in a catch 22 situation, we end up shelling $2000+ more than our actually quote and leaving some furniture behind due to Levic's scam.

we try to contact Gaby everyday and she is nowhere to be found. We are redirected to dispatch one time and after we express our frustration they stop taking our calls and ask us to email info@levicvanlines.com.

after 20+ days of waiting, the truck shows up. We are told we will be dropping off your belongings in 2 hours.

A different company arrives - South Coast Carrier. The driver says it is a delivery outsourced by Levic to their truck. They demand the remainder of the payment before letting us see our goods. When we insist that they show us the items, they threaten to leave without delivering

We pay the money. It is devastating to see the state of our belongings. Items dismantled, lost, Boxes broken into, laptops stolen, table broken, chair broken, sofa dirty.

We get our items painfully delivered and try contacting Levic's customer service/insurance department. Since then no responses in spite of multiple reminders and calls.

We contact Emma at Levic she demands more money to deliver our rest of the items. When I refuse, she puts the phone down and has never picked the call again. Our belongings are being held HOSTAGE by Levic Van Lines and we have already lost a lot of furniture in this move (Pictures attached). The team arrived on time and worked tirelessly to pack all my belongings with great care and attention - there wasn't one broken glass or cracked plate which I'm sure wouldn't have been the case if I'd done it myself. Nothing was too much trouble, even moving heaving pieces of furniture between rooms as I changed my mind on where things should go. Overall - a great experience. No fault. Well done! Thanks!

SCARY

FORTUNATELY, MY REVIEW IS BASED UPON WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN. WE ARE DEALING WITH A MOVE COSTING MORE THAN $10,000.00

WE WERE NEGOTIATING THE EXACT DETAILS OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES RIGHT UP TO ONE WEEK PRIOR TO OUR PICKUP.

MAINLY, BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO PUT THEIR ORAL PROMISES INTO WRITING.

THEY REFUSED TO COMPLETE THE DETAILS OF THE ESTIMATE (PAYMENT SCHEDULE; LOGISTICS; ETC.) WITHOUT MY PAYMENT OF THE DEPOSIT.

I FINALLY DID PAY THE DEPOSIT AND NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN. I CALLED MY REPRESENTATIVE DIRECTLY, FOR 3 DAYS, WITHOUT AN ANSWER.

I THEN CALLED THE CORPORATE NUMBER, AND WENT THRU ALL 4 PROMPTS,WITHOUT ANYBODY EVER PICKING UP.

IMAGINE IF I HAD ALREADY GIVEN THEM MY HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND HAD A PROBLEM? THEY WERE UNREACHABLE FOR 2 1/2 DAYS.

THEY ADMITTED THAT THEIR PHONE SYSTEM WAS INADEQUATE TO MEET THE MANY CONSUMER DEMANDS THAT WERE COMING IN.

OBVIOUSLY,I BECAME VERY SKEPTICAL OF THEIR PERFORMANCE ABILITIES.

WITH LESS THAN 1 WEEK LEFT, BEFORE MY REQUIRED PICKUP, I DID THE PRUDENT THING AND WENT OUT AND HIRED ANOTHER SHIPPER.

DUE TO THE SHORT WINDOW, I PAID A PREMIUM PRICE TO GET THEM, IN ORDER TO IMPROVE MY ODDS OF HAVING A SUCCESSFUL MOVE.

I FEEL VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE DISCOVERED THEIR SHORTCOMINGS, AND MAKE THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENT. DESPITE THE FACT THAT i HAD TO PAY MORE THAN A 10% PREMIUM.

This serves to confirm that I cancelled the subject estimate, never signed the estimate and am now demanding a refund of my initial deposit payment of $700.00.

This cancellation was submitted in writing more than 72 hours prior to scheduled pick-up date (12/11).

They refused to return my calls since Friday morning. All they wanted me to do was "Sign the email"!

Without any consideration of my concerns.

I am disputing the payment since the transaction DOES NOT correspond to the terms indicated in their your estimate, other various written communications and their failure to commit to putting their serious oral promises into writing.

Dishonest & unethical

I hired these movers for a move from MA to VA. They called and asked me to change my reservation to 3 days later than I had booked them for (2 days before the scheduled move). I agreed. I was charged $900 over the estimate and didn’t receive my belongings for 4 days. Upon receiving my belongings I noticed a few things missing which I brought to the attention of the crew. An empty 5 gallon water jug containing over $700 in change and a box containing my iPad, vitamins, supplements and other various items. I attempted to contact the company via email and text several times. Surprise!!! No response. If you value your belongings and care about money, DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! I still tipped both loading and unloading crews pretty well $150 to each crew.

Impossible

I went over all my details and needs for the move. I had never scheduled a long distance move before and thought the deposit standard. He assured me they would be able to pickup on the day I requested. I was flying into Delaware to meet the movers. I was told I would be contacted the day prior to pickup for exact time. I was never contacted but when called them customer service said she was just trying to call me on other line. Then she proceeded to tell me it would be late afternoon or evening or possibly the next day prior to my scheduled day when they would arrive for pickup. I told her I was flying out the next day and she said they tried to tell people in those circumstances to schedule extra days. Huh? They did not and even said it would not be a problem. I still held hope and thought she was exeragerratung the problem. It could not be happening to me. I called them next morning and she said the truck had mechanical problems and could not arrive until the following day. I said this was unacceptable and she said they would cancel. I had had hope because yesterday she told me they would know more at 3:00 pm and possibly he would arrive then. She never told me there was mechanical trouble yesterday.

I told her I wanted my deposit back. She said I should have canceled yesterday when she told me. Huh? I was in state of shock yesterday. She said she was the manager. She said she would talk to the owner and call me back. So far nothing.

Scammer and horrible experience

Never ever go with this company . They were a horrible experience to us .

Sales girl Amy was very telling us that they will deliver everything right after we pick your items . They were 4 days late picking our stuff from California to Austin . After they picked out stuff they threw them in a warehouse for almost a month stating that no one else is headed to Texas and they are waiting to get some some people move my route . After 30 days that they brought out stuff the following items were broken.

Laptop was scratched

And entire boxes of dishes were broken

They take your money and run

My husband I hired this company to move our belongings for Atlanta to Pittsburgh. They were a day late. The movers that arrived had no idea they were also packing for us, and had to run to buy supplies. Half way through the packing and loading, one of the men became ill and left, so my husband and I had to pack and load our belongings. Not to mention, Gabby totally misquoted us and the price was double. We also are being charged $1K when we packed about half of the items ourselves. It has been a week, and we cannot get a hold of anyone to see where our belongs are. No one will answer any texts or calls. My husband has been calling every number he has. We are about to call the police and report our belongings stolen. Do not use this company.

The worst customer service I have experienced

I have been trying to schedule a drop off date for 3 weeks. No one has ever called me back after leaving multiple voicemails, even sending a few emails. They are going to start charging me for renting out storage space soon, but I do not need it. I have been told twice now, while on the phone with a representative, that a manager would call me back and that has not happened.

The men who actually packed my items were great, which is the only reason they get two stars instead of one.

I’m incredibly exasperated with this company and would recommend that everyone avoid it.
