Long-distance move from Nashville, TN to Huntington Woods, MI

Do Not Use This Company

This move caused incredible stress and you should NOT use this company.

* We were promised a full service move with the understanding that we needed to be packed up and off the property by the stated drop-dead deadline. I emphasized this repeatedly with the sales rep, who assured me we would be taken care of. The movers showed up hours later than promised each day of the move, and even with my spouse and her sister actively helping to pack, they did not meet the deadline.

* We were LIED TO about where our belongings were being stored for the summer, in violation of FMCSA regulations. The drivers of our moving trucks upon delivery said they had picked up our belongings outside of Atlanta, and not in Chicago, which is where we were told our belongings were being stored when we asked.

* Upon delivery, the way the truck was loaded and many of our items packed (or not packed) did not take appropriate precautions to protect our belongings. Items that should have been covered with moving pads were not, items that should have been hung on hangers in a garment box were simply shoved into them, etc. We immediately found multiple damaged items that had they been packed with care by the movers would not have been damaged in transit. We also found moldy items, implying that the "climate controlled" storage facility where they were being kept was not actually climate controlled.

* Not all of our belongings were delivered in a timely fashion on the back end of the move. In particular, our bedroom mattress and dining room table had been left behind in the storage unit. It took an entire extra month (which my wife and I spent sleeping on sofas) for us to receive our mattress and dining room table. And, when we received them, the mattress and table were in a state of brokenness beyond repair due to not being packed in a professional manner. The mattress was not placed in a proper mattress bag, and the dining room table was not completely covered with moving blankets.

* We had to spend thousands on our 3rd party insurance deductible to cover the thousands of dollars worth of physical damages to our belongings, which could have easily been avoided had they been packed and cared for properly.

What should have been a headache and stress-free full-service move was anything but. been anything but. AVOID this company at all costs.

Don’t Move With International Van Lines – Broke and Ruined My Stuff!

Hired to move me from Philly to South Florida, and it was an absolute nightmare.

Instead of moving my stuff to the proper address, they dumped everything in a warehouse somewhere for almost two months. Apparently, it wasn’t climate-controlled:

o My rug had a huge moisture stain (picture)

o And there were hideous yellow stains on my entertainment center (picture)

It gets worse – they also can’t pack or move things properly.

They broke my mirror by basically packing glass in tissue paper (picture)

They broke my TV – the Best Buy repair team said it was not fixable because somebody put something heavy on the screen and broke it. These people are supposed to be professional movers, and they literally put something so heavy on top of a TV screen that they broke it (picture).

So, in a nutshell – I hired these guys to pack and transport my things professionally, and they disrespected my possessions.

Thousands of dollars in damage and an apathetic response when I contacted them.

Do not hire these guys to move your stuff. They broke and ruined so many of my things that the damages cost more than the move.

Avoid at all costs!!!! It’s not cheaper if they break your stuff!

All my belongings were handled with the most care and everything arrived at my new home exactly when they said it would. Nothing was damaged not even a scratch. This is an amazing company very professional I would definitely recommend to a friend or use them again

Long-distance move from Newark, DE to San Antonio, TX

Deceptive Marketing

Our move was contracted by International Van Lines, but they subcontracted the move to American Knights Moving, which we were informed the day before the move. IVL disparages moving brokers on their web site, but they appear to commonly broker all their moves.

When AKM called they informed us that the total move should take place in one day. Previous discussion with IVL had indicated one day to pack and the next day to move, which is how we had based our hotel arrangements. In feedback to IVL, they said that they may allow the move to extend over to the second day.

First day of move – AKM reviewed the house contents to be moved, and increased the cost by 10%. In discussion by phone with the movers’ supervisor, he said that the initial estimate was only good to +/- 30%, while the in-person estimate was 100% accurate. AKM movers also stated that they could not pack any food or liquids, contrary to a specific previous discussion with IVL about these items. In reviewing this with IVL, they stood by the inventory assessment by AKM, but agreed to reduce the increase by 10%, or 1% of the original estimate. They said they would direct AKM to take food and (nonhazardous) liquids.

When we asked IVL, we were assured that the movers were “professionals” and knew how to pack several antique clocks. On the first day the movers were about to place an antique wall clock in a box, only with paper wrapping, without stabilizing or removing the weights inside. When we questioned them about this, they stopped packing and held off till the next day, leaving us to address the packing. Second day of move - about 1:00 PM the movers came to us and stated that we needed to prioritize what we wanted to move, because it would not all fit in the truck. When asked when they would return for the rest, they said that the contract was for the one truck and they would not be back. They did not offer any alternative, nor did they try to check for other arrangements. Upon discussing this with their supervisor by phone, he told us that they would fill the truck and then go, leaving us to try to make other arrangements. This is despite the fact that they had performed a “100% accurate” assessment of the total load the day before, and that they had originally said the move would take place in one day. After calling and leaving desperate messages with the only two contacts we had at IVL, we contacted someone at the main customer service number. After many anxious minutes while the movers were getting ready to leave, the person was able to confirm that IVL had contacted AKM to discuss arrangements. At the same time the movers were contacted and were waiting at the truck for resolution, for about 45 minutes. Eventually the movers said, at first, it was agreed they would drop their truckload in Richmond, 5 hours away, then return at 5 AM the next day for the remainder. Then they modified this and specified that they would arrive between 4 and 5 AM, and call 30 minutes in advance, and if we were not there when they arrived, they would leave immediately. On the third day, AKM arrived about 6:30 AM. At this point many items became contentious, and they did not want to take items that had been reviewed for the “100% accurate” inventory:

• Rugs – 2’ x 5’

• Cables and remote for TV

• Items they had overlooked and not previously packed in the Master Bath and a kitchen drawer –

they accused us of adding these in afterwards. These were all thrown in a large box together, with no packing or separation.

• Similarly, in laundry room, many miscellaneous items were just dumped in a box.

• Executive desk (36 x 72”) and hutch – said that it could not be moved without damage, and that typically a third party is hired to separate. However, we assisted in the separation so the move could proceed. Desk was completely disassembled to move down stairs.

Delivery

Items which had been disassembled did not have the hardware available to reassemble. AKM said that we needed to continue to search for the missing hardware before they could do anything about restoring:

Kitchen table – never found the hardware. Purchased additional fasteners.

Executive desk – Upon further unpacking, 3 weeks later most of the screws and dowels were found sealed inside of one of the empty rolls of tape, at the bottom of one of the boxes into which many items were dumped on the third day of moving. In the meantime these pieces of desk (8) and table (5) were laying on the floor in the house. A month later a different crew from AKM finally returned to reassemble. Much of the desk had been damaged during the disassembly and reassembly, and did not fit together as before. With the number of damaged assembly locations, it could be subject to collapse at any time.

Many damaged pieces of furniture were discovered during the unpacking, as well as some items, such as electronics, which were “missing”. Only 2 of the 5 clocks survived in working order, with some antiques irreparable.

Avoid this awful company

I had a horrible experience with this company, probably the most incompetent and unprofessional service I have ever received. For a move from New York to Mexico, they first sent my shipment to Germany, causing a delay of months (and many thousands of dollars in additional living expenses during the delay). Their local agent in New York did a terrible job with the packing: many items arrived damaged or broken. When my shipment finally arrived at port in Mexico, their local Mexican agent took forever to clear customs and then their delivery truck broke down, causing yet another delay. I reached out to IVL's owner requesting help in resolving my issues, and he never responded. Avoid this awful company at all costs.

Didnt work for me

This service did not work out well for me. I foolishly didn't read all of these reviews. All seemed fine until two days before the move when I was told the movers would show up 24 hours early. I reacted badly (screaming I am ashamed to admit) that we were not ready for the movers to arrive one day early. The customer service response was Sorry but there is nothing we can do. Would you like to cancel the move? Previous reviews mention a lack of communication and customer service. Unfortunately, that was the case for me. The initial quote/estimate turned out to be literally half of the total cost of the move. $5,000 became $10,000 with tip included.

I eventually spoke to a supervisor who awarded me $200 for arriving 24 hours earlier. This amounts to a 2% reduction. Can you imagine being told two days before your move-out date that you are indeed moving the next day? I am 60 years old and just out of cancer treatment. This was truly a horrible experience for me. The lack of communication, the lack of customer service, and the addition of unnecessary stress and urgency were such a disappointment.

Should you choose this company perhaps you will have better luck than me.

Subcontracting nightmare

Many things went wrong with my move using IVL. They subcontracted to an inferior company without telling me. I wasn't told important options for scheduling. The final part of the move was ok but the overall experience was quite stressful. Valuable antiques were broken but they did pay for repair. The movers arrived late and were uncommunicative. Instead of 4 promised movers, only 2 arrived at first. Now that I've unpacked, I see that things are missing. This might have been because they deposit the possessions in a warehouse and then move them onto another truck. The final delivery went pretty well, thanks to the intervention of an attentive Customer Service agent.

So much stolen

We've moved every two or three years for three decades. This company was by far the worst. They stole so much of our stuff and the company chooses to believe the movers denials. They took a mint condition high end purse, several pairs of shoes still in the boxes, all of my husband's professional sports jerseys. They were all Chicago teams and the moving crew was from Chicago. I could go on. If these men are still employed there, your belongings will not be safe.

A total sham that cost me thousands upon thousands. Read more at: htt

An all time bad experience. I was moving cross-country, and settled on IVL. I provided them with a list of what we had.

The day of the move, they increased the cost by 50% based on what they saw, and didn't give me a chance to refute it. I didn't really have much of a choice at the time, so I just went ahead with it.

When I got the final copies of the materials, I saw that they had double counted many items. Others were not actually packed and were left behind. Others still, including a $900 appliance, arrived broken.

When I contacted them about these claims, they said they'd have to review them before a certain window, but didn't get back to me until that window had closed.

A total sham that cost me thousands upon thousands.

Long-distance move from Kansas to Illinois

International Van Lines

We moved from Kansas to Illinois in July 2024 using International Van Lines, which appeared highly rated on the internet. Our experience with them was a nightmare from beginning to end.

The process of estimating costs, even apart from overcharges for materials that we were able to correct in the end, seemed designed to seriously underestimate expenses. Some of this may be attributed to our naivete and inexperience, but, judging from internet reviews, underestimates of 25% are common with the company.

The costs of the move would have been tolerable were there a modicum of services provided for them. However, that was not the case.

We spent the week before the move frantically trying to contact their customer service representative to clarify the time of the pickup and what we would need to do to be prepared for it. Calls continually went to voice mail and were never returned by the representative. As a result, we learned too late to do anything about it that a cashier's check would be required if there was not to be potentially a week's delay in delivery so that our check could clear.

Most important, the move itself was a disaster. As best we could tell, IVL subcontracted with other movers or used questionable affiliates to have the work done. The first group showed up at our home in a rental truck from Enterprise. They apparently unloaded our furniture at a warehouse where others reloaded it at some point. It was eventually delivered in a nondescript truck by movers whose English appeared limited. It is a system that seems designed to encourage poor service and a lack of accountability.

The results were problems and damages that went far beyond those ordinarily encountered in moves and, in some cases, that resulted from sheer negligence. For example, the movers disassembled a Danish dining room table, but lost the hardware so it could not be reassembled. They lost the legs to a Danish modern desk that we needed to have a furniture repairman remake. They disassembled a table with a marble top that we thought was indestructible--it wasn't. They snapped another coffee table in half. They also managed to lose three large boxes that were only located and delivered three months later. And they lost a filing cabinet that is apparently still floating around their warehouses somewhere.

Claims for damages are handled by an organization called Movingclaims.net. Before dealing with IVL you would be well advised to look up reviews on the internet of the organization at the Better Business Bureau, Reddit, and similar sites. It will give you a good idea of the nature of the organizations you will be dealing with. Suffice it to say, it took three months from the time our meager claim was settled to get a check.

Long-distance move from Washington DC to California

Cannot imagine a worse job.

When selecting a moving company, we chose International Van Lines, even though their quote was about $1000 more than competitors, because were well reviewed.

I have to assume they are manipulating their reviews because I can not imagine them doing a worse job if they had tried.

The company they subcontracted to came to get our stuff on March 20th. They had apparently completely forgotten we were also supposed to have our car shipped.

The car was eventually shipped without issue but the household items arrived without notice on easter Sunday, April 27th.

We were told that if we couldn't accommodate a 54 ft truck then we would have to pay an additional 'shuttle' fee of $300. We made sure our apt complex could handle such a truck and they could. However, when the driver called he told my girlfriend that it would be $300 extra for a shuttle without even asking if we could accommodate the truck. She tried to explain that he didn't need a shuttle, but found it hard to communicate with him due to a language barrier, either real or for his convenience. He insisted that he had an 80' truck and that it would never fit. In a communication with the company they admitted that he did in fact have a 53' truck, so the 80' truck was a total fabrication. It is my theory that he had already loaded the shuttle without bothering to check if he needed one and made excuses as needed so he didn't have to unload or be responsible for his mistake. A more cynical theory might be that he just wanted to charge an extra $300 and would have said anything to do so.

Many of the boxes that arrived were crushed beyond recognition. Although disappointed that several things were cosmetically damaged, we decided it wasn't worth making a claim over.

However, 2 days later, we discovered a box- one that had been packed by the movers with a number of our other boxes in it, was missing. We called and e-mailed IVL, but did not get a response until April 4th, nearly a week later. They said they'd look into the missing box, but eventually started ignoring our requests for updates on the status of the search.

On April 13th, a week since we'd heard anything from them, they told us that they could not locate the box- no apology, mind. They offered $100, a tiny fraction of what the contents are worth (we are still compiling a full list of everything but are already at over $3k), even though we have a $5000 pay-to-replace insurance plan through them.

This box contained nearly all of my clothes, my college diploma, as well as hundreds of documents that are difficult or impossible to replace.

If you find it difficult to understand the scope of this, just imagine someone walking into your house, filling a huge wardrobe sized box randomly with your things and walking out. Even if they paid you retail value for what they took, it would still be a massive pain and they likely would have ended up with something of sentimental value or something with no cash value but would be very difficult or impossible to replace. Now imagine they offered you $100 for that box. With no apology for losing it.

In hindsight, I'm not surprised at their lack luster attempt to find our possessions, if any attempt even took place. They had no motivation to find our stuff, considering the comparatively small financial hit they would take. In fact, I'm more surprised that any of our stuff made it at all, since they only try to pay out a small amount for things they lose, they have little financial motivation to do the job we paid them for.

After leaving a bad yelp review, they told us they had found our box, but, unsurprisingly, it turned out not to be our box, nor did it remotely fit our description, but one that happened to have been labeled with my girlfriend's first name. At first I was slightly mollified because I thought they actually made an effort to find our things, but after talking to the sender (someone who had realized they received the wrong box) I realized they had just had someone call in and took a wild stab at who the box belonged to- it also shows that they lose SO MUCH STUFF that they have multiple people with the same first name lose boxes at any given time.

At a glance, it may have actually been cheaper to GET RID OF ALL OF OUR STUFF AND BUY ALL NEW THINGS than to pay these people to damage and lose things. They lost, damaged and bait and switched the pricing, the moving company trifecta.

If you have any possessions that you like, use someone else.

Long-distance move from Connecticut to Utah

International Van Lines.

We rarely write reviews but we had a terrible experience with IVL. We used them to move from CT to UT and it was a disaster. The move was subcontracted out entirely (contrary to what they told us). The actual move was done by a company out of Bronx, NY and the truck driver was from a different small time outfit and he was surprised he was doing a residential move and that he had to stop in Utah on his way to California. You need to find exactly who will be doing the move and research those people because IVL goes away completely.

The packing job was done hastily in 1 day and they finished around Midnight. Our possessions showed up on a different truck, having been offloaded and reloaded somewhere along the way. Full payment was demanded before we could even see our possessions. The crew that was there to help unload was confrontational, asked for some money upfront, and when that was refused by IVL's subcontractor, they left. The company then showed up with a group of men they picked up from a mosque parking lot. They were wearing sandals and were fasting for Ramadan (not making this up). These guys were just trying to make a little money and had no moving experience.

As our possessions were being unloaded we could see that many items had been re-wrapped due to the poor original packing job and due to the move from one truck to the next. Some items had a combination of blankets and garbage bags taped around them! Many items were exposed, dirty, and damaged. Boxes once opened revealed even more damage due to improper packing and protection.

This was a frustrating and terrible experience. We bought the extra insurance, thankfully, but that only covered us in part and could not replace damaged items. I would not use IVL.

Scammer.

I think all there 5 star rating are fake. International Van lines are scammers. Do not trust them. They will bid your move out. Mine was bid out to Gts Shipping Window Inc. I tried to get insurance for my move, but they just pull me around. They never return my calls on the insurance or when there was an issue on the delivery date with Gts Shipping Window Inc. When they finally came, they missed the our appointment date and keep my household items hostage. After, I pay for my items my wine collection was stolen, furniture, and items were damage. Guess that was the reason why they didn't want me to get insurance. All and all please so not trust them. They will just find another victim.

Long-distance move from Acton, MA to Fremont, OH

My moving experience from MA to CA w International Van Lines.

IVL is just a broker despite whatever they tell you. I initially picked a different company but Ryan convinced me to go with IVL telling me their moving crews work for IVL and they own their trucks. NOT true. After they took my deposit, they detached themselves from the move. Go directly with a moving company for your move.
My move was screwed up big time, neither Ryan nor the customer service rep Karen called.
My pickup was delayed twice and 32 hours later with a small truck with other people's stuff in it. I told the guy it's obvious he cannot fit all our stuff in it but the lead guy told me to just trust him. The two movers ended up leaving quite a bit of furniture and stuff in the garage. The next day is my house closing day, the new owners are not happy with our stuff left in garage. The new owner took $1000.00 in escrow and asked us to move our stuff before their July.1 vacation otherwise they will remove them. It was very stressful. Eventually the moving company Honest and True Moving crew came through and did a second pickup. Throughout all this, neither IVL sales rep or customer service rep was not much of a help and never bother to call even after I called them multiple times and left messages. Now I am trying to deal with insurance because 2 lamps are missing, piano keys stuck and lots of furniture scratched, new house scratched and bumped. But their service rep is non responsive.

Long-distance move from Richmond, VA to Chicago, IL

Terrible Experience.

I used International Van Lines for a move from Richmond, VA to Chicago, IL and the experience was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. There were several incidents where I was lied to, hundreds of dollars of damage were caused to my belongings, they did not deliver within the date I was promised, and there were several other issues. Please read all the other negative reviews before using them.

A quick summary of issues is bulleted here, feel free to read about the issues in further detail below.
- Sales rep promising a delivery date that the items weren’t delivered during
- The Manager promising another [later] delivery time that wasn’t followed either
- Management then communicating several other timeframes that weren’t met
- Movers created hundreds of dollars of damage to multiple items
- Management saying that the delivery will be leaving on one day on a truck by itself, then the movers informed me that items actually left the warehouse multiple days later with several other loads
- The office/“customer service” rarely picks up their phone and likely blocks you if you call consistently trying to find out where your items are
- Movers up-charging above the “Binding” contract after poorly packing and not disassembling items in order to increase the number of boxes needed [Note: the contract says they disassemble and reassemble basic furniture which they did not do]
- Movers/packers showed up late [after rescheduling 2x] and weren’t prepared for the move / didn’t have all the materials they needed to pack the items
- Truck drivers being dishonest and saying they are headed your way when they are not – also communicating incorrect “expected” delivery times

I contracted with Justin on 6/8 after receiving a guarantee that my items would be delivered between 7/15-7/19. Justin added in a new line to the contract calling out “Delivery between 7/15-7/19.” He said the new line item superseded the clause noting that that would be only the first attempt.

The pickup dates were set for 6/28-6/30. I called on 6/25 to find out the pickup date and had to leave a voicemail as IVL rarely picked up their phones when I called the offices. I received a voicemail on 6/26 saying the movers were going to be there on 6/28. I was then informed that they weren’t going to be able to pick everything up until 9-11AM on 6/30. The pickup time was changed again the next day to 3-5PM on 6/30. They showed up later than the window and didn’t even provide an excuse as to why they were late.

Upon the late arrival, the moving team did not have all the boxes and wrapping materials they needed for the move. One of the movers had to leave to pick up the materials needed for the “Full Packing” of a studio size apartment [what was contracted]. Additionally, the movers packed the boxes with excess paper and didn’t disassemble basic items [in the contract], causing extra boxes to be added to the inventory, which they then charged extra for.

The real issue arose when delivery was supposed to occur. After calling to find out what day I should plan to meet the movers in Chicago (on 7/11), I was told the delivery dates were not guaranteed and that there “must have been some miscommunication.” I was then told to talk to Sean who was the manager. After several calls, I was able to connect with Sean on Friday (7/13) over the phone. Sean told me that my items would be leaving Atlanta that Saturday and would be delivered during the time frame in the contract. On 7/15, Sean then “promised” that my items would “be there no later than the 19th” via email. The movers did not show up during that timeframe.

After multiple calls into IVL, I recognized my number was being ignored by the staff. I then called from another cell phone and they immediately picked up. I then connected with Sean on his cell phone and he said that the shipment was on its way, in a truck by itself, heading directly to my apartment. He provided the driver, Dario’s, number to check on the delivery time. Dario noted that he would be arriving by 12pm CT on 7/20. At 11:50AM Dario then informed me that they had to make a detour to pick up a different truck but were 7 miles away and would be there around ~2PM. I was later told there were 3 loads on the truck and they were loading mine on a different truck. Additionally, I was told that everything was loaded Wednesday night instead of the previous Saturday like I was told. Eventually, a Penske truck pulled up to my building after 3PM.

Upon delivery, the movers broke the glass front to a TV stand, scratched up a desk, and broke a tall lamp. Additionally, as items were unloaded, the movers dinged up the walls in my new apartment. Lastly, the two movers pulled a bike out of the truck that was not mine and I had to tell them to keep it.

This move was incredibly disappointing, but the dishonesty and lack of organization from IVL were what truly made the move terrible.

Long-distance move from Columbus, OH to San Francisco, CA

Miserable, miserable, miserable.

AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL.

I have never experienced such a stressful, miserable experience. This company picked up my items from Columbus, OH on June 14 - and today, more than 6 weeks later, I still do not have my items.

I have been snapped at by associates, given one sentence responses by dispatch and ignored. I chose this company because of the incredible (and what I thought were legitimate) reviews. I moved from Ohio to San Francisco, CA for a new job and a new chapter of my life, and your company has been it miserable and truly makes me rethink this adventure.

It is shameful that this company boast of easy moves and great follow-through - when they provide nothing but stress and a miserable experience.

My delivery passed the 21 day mark weeks ago - then a truck broke an axle - and then I was told 5-7 days from last Saturday - but now it's 2-4 days from last Thursday. When does this end and my items are delivered? The associates here are not caring at all that this is CONSTANTLY delayed and that I am living on an air mattress with plastic silverware and without my needed day-to-day activities - they are more focused on the fact that I need to have cash or a postal money order.

I feel so helpless and cannot believe that a company would be heartless and so deceptive. I am now looking into hiring legal representation and bringing in the police force.

I have cried multiple times when trying to contact someone to help me.

There is no follow-up or accountability.

I am cancelling plans waiting for the delivery truck to call - only to be told that this is delayed again. I am begging this company to please help me and deliver my items and let me get on with my life.

--UPDATE--
My items were delivered and boxes were squished, a cabinet was broken and small items were missing. I was promised compensation; but the company is now ignoring my calls and emails.

This company will make your life miserable and ruin every aspect of the move.

Check out their BBB reviews - then find another company. Jeremy Smith and Lakele had incredibly poor customer service - FIND ANOTHER MOVING COMPANY.

Long-distance move from Boston, MA to Portland, OR

A big mistake!

They seemed to be great up until the night before we moved, I had a dedicated contact and she always answered the phone and was polite and courtesy. All that changed when I tried to confirmed our move date, she became exclusive and impossible to reach. Then at 6:00pm the night before the move I finally got a call back from Justin, who said that their van had broken down and they needed an extra $500.They had me between a rock and a hard place. Their whole business model is using contractors so I'm not sure what van of theirs broke. I was then charged exorbitant amounts of money to "pack" the cushions of the couch and wrap the chairs. All in all I paid 50% more than their quote. I should have used UHaul pods. If I could enclose a picture of the way some of the boxes arrived you would be horrified. They looked like they had been dropped and kicked. What a mistake!!

Long-distance move from Chesapeake, VA to New Braunfels, TX

Terrible Service.

We used International Val Lines for our move from Virginia to Texas. Pickup was ok. Delivery was Horrible. I called to give them a delivery window only to be ignored and finally told, "We will deliver your furniture sometime within 30 days". They refused to answer calls or return messages. When they finally called they stated that they were loading the truck and would be coming this way. They called again later to say that the truck had broken down and was in the shop to be fixed. Two business days and the weekend later, they started again.
When they finally arrived, the driver tried to add fees for walking the furniture down the driveway. The driver apparently hired temp workers who knew absolutely nothing about moving furniture. The driver went back to the truck and stayed. No one supervised the delivery. They knocked a hole in the wall in the foyer and piled furniture in rooms before unwrapping it. When they did unwrap it, we discovered that it was all water damaged and molded. When the blankets came off, finish and paint came with it. Mattresses and box srings were multicolored with mold. A leg was broken off of a writing desk. The computer, printer, televisions, clocks, and electronics were all water damaged. Pictures and mirrors were broken. Clothes were mildewed. China was broken. Sterling silver was missing from the place settings. Items from our inventory are completely missing and we received other people's items (Kahseam, I have your summer clothes). The whole house smelled of mold and mildew. After International Van Lines left, we had to move everything back out of the house for fear of getting ill. Everything delivered, with the exception of a few dishes buried deep in the boxes and a few clothes that could be cleaned, was damaged or destroyed. International Van Lines has yet to admit fault. Their response was to say they were sorry. I have been told in sequence to: 1("Fill out the claim forms to receive 60 cents on the pound of cargo.' 2( "Don't fill out the claim forms, our staff will meet and discuss how to deal with your losses." 3( "I don't need a dissertation, you should have purchased the additional insurance.", 4( "Get an attorney." (5 When I said I would write this review, the response was, "Go for it!"
We paid $3664.50 for storage and $5146.47 for moving. We lost $13825.00 in damaged or destroyed household items. Nothing has been done to date to provide any resolution. Run from these people!!

Long-distance move from Huntersville, NC to Pueblo, CO

SCAM- low binding estimate and then pay double the estimate.

This company is taking advantage of my 74 year old parents who are currently waiting for their belongings to be delivered from Huntersville NC to Pueblo, Colorado. A $8000 quote turned into a final bill that they now estimating will be between 19k. Please note the following horrible interactions that describes not only taking advantage of senior citizens but also HORRIBLE customer service and POOR actual moving services.

To book this company two movers had to be involved and they WOULD NOT come out to provide an in person physical estimate. All items were estimated by a phone call, and a disclaimer signed electronically during the phone call protects them with this practice. I have moved from NY to CA 2x and have never worked with any company that wouldn't come out to physically inspect the items to have a more accurate estimate. BUYER BEWARE all moving companies that I have contacted have said that this is a highly unethical practice and this can lead to these grossly underestimated BINDING moving estimates. Let's be clear if the estimate were not the lowest my parents would've used another company. My father took detailed notes about what he told them. This is an ethical and unlawful practice. IT'S a scam!

The actual horrible moving company is named American Family movers and is based in Ga.

Day 1: Movers showed up after lunch on moving day.
Day 2: The truck broke down on day 2 and they did not come out at all.
Day 3: A full crew came back on day 3
Day 4: the crew showed up at 6pm!
- by this time the lights and power were cut off because the move should not have taken 4 full days and should not have required any nighttime work. The crew worked until 3am, by cell phone light to finish. My parents never got copies of the inventory from the last day because at 74 years old they are not able to stay up until 3AM in the dark.

Any special accommodations or support offered?

My father Got attitude and belligerence from the supervisor when He told him this service was unacceptable. He was hung up on by a supervisor at the company. My dad ran a small business in the local Huntersville area for many years. He's pretty diplomatic and understanding, and has trained many employees on customer service skills. On day 1 and 2, he left an email and 2 voicemails to International with a formal complaint and request for an explanation.

No response.

It then took American Family over a week to call my father back about the delivery. No chance of delivering by 10/2, as promised. This is when he told my father the overage (DOUBLE the estimate of 8k and now up to 19k!!) No bill of sale from the actual pick up- NOTHING IN WRITING. The total bill needs to be paid in cash or they don't give the belongings. No accountability for their horrible service, disastrous customer service, and SCAM of under selling and then hiking up the rates. Have you know shame? Taking advantage of senior citizens. Actual estimate below.

The Worst Moving Company in the Country.

This has to be the worst moving company in the country. I had so many items damaged and so completely, that I wondered if it was done on purpose. Boxes marked "fragile" smashed in, legs broken off multiple furniture items, a dresser with a hole punched in the back, numerous glass items, carefully packed in bubble wrap, obliterated. Don't hire these people! I have pictures of the damage.

Long-distance move from Reston, VA to Norman, OK

Worst Hiring Decision we Ever Made!

Our domestic household move with International Van Lines ended up taking 31 days, 7 to 8 truck loads, and cost almost twice the original estimate. It was a nightmare from start to finish. Our belongings were damaged, and some are missing. There was no inventory control--we even ended up with someone else's things. Nothing we were promised when we hired IVL was performed. Before the nightmare was even over, they first offered us money to be quiet, then threatened to sue us if we spoke out about our experiences. I've never experienced such deceptive and/or incompetent business practices in my life. Read more about what happened to us at www.internationalvanlines.info.

Long-distance move from Pittsburgh, PA to San Francisco, CA

Damage, Loss and Theft.

I contracted with International Van Lines after reading many positive online reviews. The move across country was trouble right after I signed on with the sales person. The communication was terrible, their attitude was not helpful, the cost went up in the process and they insisted on cash for thousands of dollars. The worse part was that 1) 6 pieces of antique furniture were seriously damaged, 2) several boxes of china and crystal disappeared and were never delivered, AND 3) several family heirlooms were stolen (empty boxes arrived but not their contents). The staff were not helpful, and they said that they only owed me 60 cents/pound for loss/damage, but would go up to $500 total (for an estimated $25,000 in lost/stolen items) if I signed a release. DO NOT USE INTERNATIONAL VAN LINES.

Long-distance move from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles, CA

Tx to LA.

I chose International Van Lines because of their reputation. The truth is that they were a bit more expensive than other companies, but I did not want to take the chance and get burned like I did the last time I moved. My move was from Houston, TX to Los Angeles, CA for a three bedroom house. They did all the packing and packed very well. They showed up in a nice clean truck which made me feel even more comfortable. I received my load in about a week with no damage. My sales rep Alex was very detailed and made sure things went well for me. I would use them again.

Long-distance move from Charlotte, NC to New York, NY

Moving to NY.

I spent 3 weeks looking for a moving company. It appears that movers get tons of complaints which is very confusing when trying to select the right company. Even the largest movers have a lot of bad reviews. I chose IVL because they were referred by 2 consumer watchdog websites that claimed they are one of the best. My relocation was from NC to NY for a 4 bedroom house and car. IVL managed the job well!! They sent a crew of 5 guys to pack, load and deliver. I had my own truck and delivery time of about 3 days. Very pleased with their service!!
