Long-distance move from Denver, CO to Phoenix, AZ

My experience with the moving company.

My experience with the moving company.

What I got from the experience:
1 Throw away stuff you don't need, even furniture. It will be cheaper to buy new at your new place.

2 Furniture will arrive damaged, and workers will damage your walls when they are trying to get your couch into your house. See #1. Then you'll have to spend time repainting everything.

3 It doesn't matter what company you select, they will repack your stuff to put on another truck. It will cause damage, especially to the bulky items. See #2.

4 You will pay more than they quoted you.

5 Brokers will outright lie to you to get you hooked and get your money. And good luck trying to get a hold of them.

In summary. Get your documents and important items with you in a small uhaul trailer. Sell, give away, or throw away old stuff and furniture. If you have to, then get a big rental truck and drive it yourself.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to West New York, NJ

Very Satisfied.

They had all the modern tools and techniques to make my move go very smoothly. I called to arrange my move from Manhattan to West New York, NJ and they promptly set up an appointment for Friday right away.

They quoted me the most reasonable price and showed up at my door at the scheduled time. They fully packed my belongings and carefully labeled all the boxes. They then proceeded to haul them into the truck and they arrived in perfect condition.

Unpacking was a breeze since I was able to find my possessions quickly. They took great care of them every step of the way and delivered top notch service. I look forward to doing business again.

Perfect, Reliable Service!

Moving my uncle from South Florida was a tremendously daunting task since most of our family was up in the northeast. I had to call too many moving services and was stressed about the entire process. Essentially, the communication I had with the company was nice and clear and they provided great service to me. I enjoyed knowing they would take care of our belongings.

The entire move went off without a hitch and I do hope that anyone looking for a mover does their research well because moves like these are important.

Easy move.

Excalibur moved me from my shared two-bedroom flat to a one-bedroom apartment. I had never used them before. I started researching various movers but it wasn't long before I was getting overwhelmed by all the companies and quotes.

Excalibur was quick. The movers were on time and didn't complain about all the stairs up to my flat (unlike my previous movers). They conduct themselves professionally. I don't seem to have lost anything in the move. They were gone before much of the day had passed, so I was able to unpack a fair amount before the end of the day.

As I hope to stay here for some time, I hope I won't be in need of their services again anytime soon. But I will recommend them here and to friends/family.

Long-distance move from River Falls, WI to Mesa, AZ

Don't do it!!

This move has been nothing but a headache, pure stress and just traumatizing for me to the point I should have just sold everything and bought it when I moved. I am a single mom of an infant and this company did there best to sweet talk me into going with there company.
Never informing me that other companies would be picking up/dropping off. They advised they would do it and it would be smooth and a stress free move. Lies.
My items were picked up on 5/2/18. I was told they would be there between 9-12 they never showed up till almost 1. 3 very unprofessional movers showed up to my house and while loading my things where not careful by any means. Scratched my floors, thought it was an inconvenience to them when I asked them to take there trash with them and rushed me thru signing documented and quickly explaining the documents (after which I found out what was explained what's not what I was signing at all.)
After my items were loaded I was at that time told it could worst case take 1-17 days to get my items.. AFTER MY ITEMS WERE LOADED AND PAID I WAS TOLD THIS!
Well..fast forward to today 5/19/18 I still have no belongings. I call every day for an ETA and every day I have been told there is no Eta At this time. I also asked for a weight ticket and found out they didn't weigh my truck. They said it takes to long and. Sometimes is out of the way for movers.. Not my problem. They rudely stated 'we can weight your truck but you will pay anything it weighs over' I responded with no I will not since I was told I would never pay what was over my contract that that price was over weight and I would be refunded what it was over but I would never pay more.
I've been speaking to Adam and Steve and a very rude girl who I can never get her name. Im so beyond mad and want my belongings. Preferably undamaged but with the way things have gone im not hopeful. Save yourself and find a new moving company.

Long-distance move from Nixa, MO to Enfield, CT

Downhill at mid-point.

I thought this was going great. Lowest price with all the service and professionalism I had hoped for. I gave months of notice on my move, called to let the office know I'd changed the address on my credit card, and they accepted my final pickup date. They verified my information, assured me the driver would be able to take credit card payment, told me my payment at pickup would be $442.50, and another $442.50 upon delivery (after my initial deposit of $400, this sounded about right to me). On the Friday that I'd been told someone would call and tell me which of the two days (Monday or Tuesday) I'd requested they would pick up on, I did receive a call -- very early in the day. They wanted to pick up on SATURDAY -- the very next day! I said that wouldn't work, and they quickly said, "Okay, then we'll pick up on Sunday." That still threw my schedule off, but I agreed. But then I got another call a few hours later saying they wanted to "go over a few things" with me, and it was the same information I'd already given a man over the phone a week earlier. I told him so, and he indicated no one had told him, and ended the call. Weird. And then a few hours after THAT, I got ANOTHER call. All these calls had a lot of background noise, and some accents involved, so I had difficulty understanding everything they said, but this person wanted to go over some of the same things and also said I wouldn't be able to pay the driver with my credit card. Late Friday afternoon, I'm in the middle of trying to expedite my packing (ALONE) ahead of schedule, and he said I'd have to either go to the post office and get (pay for) a money order, or go to the bank and get a cashier's check for the $442.50 -- or pay cash. I put my foot down and told him I'd been assured that I could pay with a credit card. He put me on hold and 'presumably' got affirmation from someone that I would be allowed to use my card, but I'd need to pay in cash at delivery. Is this starting to sound suspicious? Yes. Or, at the very least, that one hand in this company doesn't know what the other hand is doing. And on Saturday I got a call from the driver saying they'd be here between 8am to 11am the next morning. Good. Except there's a lot of lost sleep time between 8 and 11, and I have to get up and be ready for them at 8. Still, I can get over that. And, sure enough, at 7:30 Sunday morning they called and asked me what was the earliest time I'd be ready. I said I'd been told between 8 and 11, so I'd be ready at 8. They got here at 8:30. And the rest is just a hot mess! Props first -- to ME: I had 1 or 2 boxes less than expected, and one "sewing console" less, and I had every single box and piece of small furniture ready and waiting inside the front door, in my living room, except the armoire that was too heavy for me to move. One "driver" did all the moving while the other one sorted through the pile of paperwork I was supposed to "read carefully and understand". (I learned this from the little CYA booklet of my "rights and responsibilities" that was conveniently left in the truck until AFTER I'd signed all the pages with volumes of tiny print on the back, and numerous redundancies on the front, and corrections and changes made during the 'explanations' and signatures and promises to be quick so he could get out of my hair..blah, blah, blah talk. A few things did stand out loud and clear, though. That was when my pickup and delivery installments of $442.50 suddenly became $621.50 each! That's $337 over my promised "total". I strenuously questioned that. Lots more calculating was done, a phone call to "the boss" was made, I was given a "discount", and the payments became $471.50 each. I wasn't thrilled with the changes, but it was only $38 over; I hadn't even had breakfast yet, most of my shipment had been loaded, and I just wanted it to be over, so I wrote ANOTHER check. More calculations. Another phone call. Then I was told I needed to pay $800 today, with "only $621.50 upon delivery. I said, "NO. You have my stuff; that's your collateral. This was not the agreement I signed. I'm not changing it now." So he took the $471.50 check and finished the loading. He put cardboard around and shrink-wrapped my great-grandmother's antique treadle sewing machine console, wrapped a small rocking chair, a very small easy chair, and a small wood hamper in blankets, all of which were clearly listed in my initial inventory that was used to estimate my "total" cost" of $1305.80 in January, which I electronically signed. No add-ons, no dismantling, no packing of glass, no fancy stuff to re-pack -- just what I had originally said I wanted to send MINUS the computer and monitor, which I'll be carrying by car. You think that's the end of the story? Wrong. At this point only 1 1/2 hours had passed. ALL my shipment was loaded and locked on the truck, we'd said our goodbyes and I was confused, but still with the program. Then the paperwork driver knocked on the door. There'd been "a mistake", he says. I needed to pay $621.50 today and another $621.50 at delivery (an additional $337). Long story a little shorter, he left and came back several times during the next 1 1/2 hours. Let me say, he seems like he might be a nice guy. Maybe even an honest guy. Maybe he's just the messenger. At one point I spoke with his "boss", whose accent was very hard to understand, and he seemed to be adamant. I'm not suspicious or paranoid by nature, but I eventually got the distinct impression I was being preyed upon. I decided discretion might be the better part of valor. I wrote the check for $621.50, swallowed all the trade jargon just so I could shut my door and eat breakfast. By this time it was 11:30. But I very carefully went over my paperwork and the belated "rights and responsibilities" booklet, and what I see is that I signed my consent to pay $1305.80 for a 'relocation' that INCLUDES $65.80 for Fuel Surcharges, wrapping and quilting all furniture, packing tape and moving pads, ALL transportation, taxes, tolls, and MILEAGE. What I FEEL is that all these "cooks" have spoiled the "pot". Too many changes, too many representatives disagreeing with, or overriding each other, too little adherence to contract stipulations. And maybe someone making up things that gives them a little extra commission. I'm 73 years old. My sole income consists of a Social Security check of $570 a month. I own a 1993 Geo Prizm that I'll be driving from MO to CT. Do I really NEED this hassle? No. But, guess what? There's no one at Excalibur today -- at the CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. What a coincidence.

Best moving Experience!

Excalibur Moving Group absolutely blew me away! I've had my fair share of bad experiences with moving companies in the past.

Every step of the way from my initial call to my belongings being delivered, I had an exceptional experience! Rarely do you come into contact with a company and be blown away by their remarkable customer service.

My brother is moving next month, and I've already referred him to use Excalibur.

I'll be using them in the future and referring them to all my friends and family!

Long-distance move from Hartford, CT to Miami, FL

Moving from Connecticut to Florida.

I moved with Excalibur from Connecticut to Miami last week on April 3. They definitely did a great job. It wasn't a huge move but I lived on the 3rd floor of an apartment and the elevator wasn't in order so it was a lot of work going up and down all of the stairs with my furniture and belongings. My belongings made it to Florida- so I'm happy. They were friendly and everything too.

Long-distance move from San Diego, CA to Raleigh, NC

Went down without a hitch.

Had to move across the country with a very short notice, and they were extremely helpful! They went out of there way to make sure everything was taken care of, I didn't have to do anything except sign the papers. Could not recommend these guys enough, if you're moving, use the Excalibur Moving Group! I already know my family is going to have another move in a few years, and I very much plan on hiring these guys to move all our stuff again.
We had a lot of stuff, and I mean a lot of stuff. Dozens of very fragile antiques, electronics I don’t really know how to use (kids), and really heavy furniture. And they moved all of it. All of it. They managed to move it across the country without a scratch on any of it. It has all been accounted for, and was all put in the places we wanted in our new home! I can not say enough nice things about this company, they’re truly live savers. They put up with me in a very stressful time, and again, I would just like to give you guys my biggest thanks.

Long-distance move from Onalaska, WI to Corvallis, OR

The Oregon Trail went well!

I was nervous about making my first ever big move - across the country from Wisconsin to Oregon. I had never used a moving service before (even for more local moves), and felt uneasy about my stuff being in someone else's hands for so long - but, I didn't have direct access to the right transportation to do it myself. Excalibur Moving Group eased all my worries and did an amazing job at getting my belongings out to Oregon efficiently and safely. I hope I don't have to make another big move for awhile, but if I do -I would definitely hire them again for the job! Highly recommend.

Easy Move.

I had a career change that evolved very quickly and needed to move fast and unexpectedly. My uncle owns a moving company but was already booked. However, I do know what goes into a move and what to expect because of his business. Excalibur Moving Group showed up on time and did a great job with my relocation back to Texas. They took care of my belongings (even though I don't have much stuff..) and were mindful of my expensive electronics. I'd recommend them to any friend or relative. Great job!!

Professional and courteous service!

I was under extreme time constraint and pressure after my moving plans with a previous company failed. I was starting a new job and needed to be moved before the following Monday and was completely discouraged with no alternative to replace them.
By a stroke of luck, through my google search I found and called Excalibur Moving Group. I was grateful that they had availability for me that matched my needs and assured me that my fragile furniture items would be handled with care during the move.
I was given an affordable quote and immediately made arrangements to have the guys come to my place to help me pack. They arrived prompt and professional taking over the packing I was rushing to complete and loading up boxes. I got out of their way and was finally able to relax and be confident in their service.
I was put at ease and relieved that they made this move a pleasant experience. I will be using them again for future moves!

Long-distance move from Oregon to California

Moved from Oregon to California.

I have used moving companies & brokers many many times before. This broker is by far the worst. I have been trying for almost a year to get my goods back but no luck. I should have done my homework and read the reviews. They were quite nice before I sign the moving contract. Once my household goods were in their processions, they toyed with me. They waited until they had another delivery in California to combine mine with the order delivery. So that pushed my date out to six weeks later. I had to go buy & borrow household items. My husband and I had two suitcases of clothes each to live on. About a dozen boxes were crushed and all the boxes were soaking wet from sitting outside in the rain before they loaded them, my desk had cracks, , my $3k bike was missing, along with four boxes, two expensive floor lamps and a leather chair. My husband made calls and file reports before my bike was returned. And that took about five weeks. Customer Service was no help, refused to help as they say they are a broker only and not responsible for the moving company itself. I filled a police report but that got buried under more crucial cases, which I understand. The rest of the missing goods, I have to give up on them. The most valuable box I can not replace had my children’s photo albums along with my deceased father’s Army photos. I hope they get shutdown quick before another family have to go through turmoil.

Long-distance move from Houston, TX to New York, NY

Runnay From This Company.

I wish I had read the reviews before hiring this company to move 1bed apartment from Houston to NY - it is NOT a moving company but only a broker, that promise things that will never happen and once you pay them and have your stuff picked up, there is nothing also they will do for you to guarantee that you will have a good experience or even get your move delivered on the 21 business window promised. I could understand if there was delay or anything that happens, but they actually don't answer your phone anymore, don't reply to emails and don't really care. At this moment, I'm trying to deal directly with the moving company that actually is doing the job to see if I still can get my move within the time promised. Working with Excalibur was the worst experience ever, don't hire. I wish I was informed since the beginning that they are a broker and not actually taking care of your move. Seriously, I suggest to pay more and just don't deal with this company. When I read the reviews (unfortunately only after I had closed the deal), despite all the bad reviews, there were few good reviews and I was hoping I would be the lucky one to have a normal experience. But everything written in the bad reviews is and I will never hire this company again and my suggestion for you is: runaway from them.

Long-distance move from Fort Wayne, IN to Sharps Chapel, TN

Move from Fort Wayne, IN to Sharps Chapel, TN.

There is not a choice of ZERO stars. DO NOT use this company..DO NOT!! Find someone else to arrange your move. Other than having cancer, this was the worst experience of my life. They seem so nice and helpful until they have your money and before the move. Once they have your money and the move is complete (even before the move is complete) they will not answer their phones. They have a 24 hr customer service number that they NEVER answer. If you leave a message DO NOT expect to receive a return phone call. It won't happen. This company Excalibur and the company they booked our move with, American United Vanlines, are both the most unscrupulous companies that I have ever worked with. Our shipment had to go to storage ($1200.00 per month) and then was delivered to the house we are building. I have never seen so many ripped, crushed and battered boxes. Our furniture was broken and damaged. This was our 10th move and we have never experienced anything like this. There is no customer service and believe me they will not care one thing about your household goods. They demand the last payment in cash or Postal Money Order. That is because they know you would never willingly pay to have your goods destroyed. They took the money and walked out once the goods were off the truck. We had to hire someone to move the boxes where they were supposed to go. Also, they use bait and switch on their pricing for the move. They quoted us a price after receiving an accurate inventory. When they came to our house and had already started putting things on the truck they said the move price was almost doubling. They literally held our goods hostage until we agreed to pay the higher price. They also stole our computer and printer and everything that was packed in manufacture boxes. We have filed complaints with DOT and FBI. HORRIBLE experience, horrible company!! Not sure how these scam artists sleep at night. Our ending move price was almost $14,000.00. We started with a quote of almost $8000.00 BEWARE..DO NOT USE!!

Long-distance move from Neosho, MO to Orem, UT

Excalibur Moving Group.

As with the reviews I have read on this page, our experience was very negative. We definitely should have done more investigating into this company before we ever sent them money. We did not realize they were a broker. All the representatives I talked to were super nice and friendly. Some things to be aware of that might be part of their ways to bait you.
1. They offered us about $1800 off because a truck was making a delivery to an obscure town near us. (I felt like it was my lucky day).
2. When they called 72 hours from the planned pick up for a more accurate inventory - the price went up about $5,000. When my husband and I wanted to talk over this surprise increase, the representative wanted to hold. We really should have hung up. Calling so close to your planned departure and learning of the price increase puts people in a bind, because they have not planned another alternative and feel trapped. At this point we actually did ok another payment (very bad idea). Then when the movers came the price went up more. $799 packing fees, $12,000-$14,000 predicted for the move!! At this point we had a wonderful friend with us who quickly found out how much a U-Haul would be and we told the movers we had to break the contract because it was just too expensive. We were blessed to have men from our church come and load the U-Haul (something we were trying to avoid) and even if we never get our $ back, we will still be saving $ from what the total cost would be if we had used this company. All I can say is BEWARE and don't be as naive as we were.

Long-distance move from Connecticut to Florida

Worst service ever!

Worse experience I have ever had with a moving company! I called to get a quote which was $2200 to move from Connecticut to Florida, then come to moving day the movers told us a different amount, which was another $1000 added on! There was NO communication with the company or the movers! Then the movers Tell us we will get our items in the next 5-10 days. Which no one tell us from the beginning it would take this long. After day 6 we called which again NO communication, customer service saids she needs to call the movers to see where our items are, never calls us back! Then next day call again same thing, she needs to call the movers and will call us back, which never happened. Then we are told our items will be there between 5-14 days from our move. Finally day 10 comes, movers call us tell us they are in New Jersey and will be at our place in the next two days. Day 14 movers finally come and tells us they are charging us another $100 because we will on the second floor. That was NOT in our contract, so the main mover was mad and didn’t help bring in our items and slept in the truck! We never got an apology from the company or the movers or even a refund! In my opinion don’t use this company, they are not a real moving company, they are brokers!

Extremely unsatisfied with service.

I went through Excalibur for my move from SLC to Chicago. They sold me the idea that by working with them my move would be stress free and they would work to keep me updated throughout the process. I was told I could expect the delivery of my belongings 7 days to 14 days following my move. I had listed my date available to receive by as Sept 29. It is now October 22 and I have received ZERO communication as to when I will have any of my belongings. I have had to reach out to the moving company (Excalibur is a brokerage company, not the movers) myself numerous times to ask for a status update of my belongings. Was told my items were in transit multiple times, before being told they were actually sitting in storage because my move couldn't be justified. And after numerous complaints to EXCALIBUR, I was told the movers are in compliance with move regulations and have up to 30 buisness days to delivery my items, until then there is nothing I can do but wait. When I agreed to work with Excalibur I had assumed that my belongs would be moved a carefully and efficiently across the country. I was never made aware that my belongings would be placed in storage nor that my move was two small and would need to be piggybacked, put on a truck with numerous other peoples belongings, before it could be delivered. I was told Wednesday Oct 17 I could expect to hear from a driver soon and expect delivery by Friday, Saturday, or possibly Sunday. Today (Monday Oct 22) I learned there were multiple delivers on my route and I was the absolute last delivery and would be given an update when one was available. This information was provided by the movers I had to reach out to myself. Least to say, I should've gone through the movers myself and avoided Excalibur entirely. I paid $1334 to Excalibur (for what exactly I am unsure of) and need to pay $1566 to the actual movers. I will not use be using Excalibur for any future moves, and I will not be recommending them to my friends.

Charged without service.

When booking through this broker I discussed with them the needs of my move. I informed them of the absolute deadline that I would need to be out of my old apartment. He then told me that they would set a pick-up window for my belongings that would include the final move out date. I agreed. Two days before the move I received an update call stating that everything was on time at ready to go. On the day of my move, the movers called and stated they were backed up on another move. I informed them that my lease was up and this move had been arranged over a month earlier. They stated there was nothing they could do. They never showed up but still charged me over 800 dollars in fees. I continuously tried to call a supervisor or some representative of the company. No one would answer. They took my money then ignored my calls. I submitted a dispute with my bank. However, Excalibur furnished a copy of a cancellation policy. I never canceled. Excalibur did not show up!

Won't Provide Refund.

If I could do 0 stars I would. I called the company July 13th to get a refund. I was told that the refund would take 21 days to get and that it would come to me as a check. I have called them multiple times about the refund after the 21 day period was done. I was told many different times that the refund would be sent out on Friday (08/17/18, 08/24/18 and 08/31/18). By September 20th the company quit taking my phone calls. It is now October 29th and the only way I can get a hold of them is by using other people's phones. I now call every other week. Once I tell them my name I am put on hold and I usually hang up after 40 minutes. At this point I do not think I will ever get a refund back and that this company IS A SCAM! PLEASE STAY AWAY AND DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

This company will steal everything you own.

DO NOT USE THESE FRAUDULENT PUSHERS! My mother gave a down payment to this company and they were supposed to show up today “late morning to early afternoon.” After 10:00PM I started to think to myself that something was fishy. One quick google search brought me to countless reviews stating that this company is indeed fraudulent & many people have lost all of their possessions to this company. At 11:30PM my mom got a call from one of these snake oil movers saying they will be at our house in 10 minutes! I told my mom to cancel the payment and once the two men arrived IN A BUDGET TRUCK (NOT A TRUCK OF THEIR OWN WITH THEIR COMPANY LOGO LIKE THE WEBSITE SHOWS) I told the driver “Thank you so much for being over 12 hours late, because if you hadn’t been then I wouldn’t have found all of the fraudulent claims in reviews and your BBB score of an F.” Then the driver sat there and said nothing while he had a nervous/awkward squinty smile on his face completely showing his cowardess. I told him “so we won’t be needing your service” and as soon as I said that both men rolled their windows up and they took off. I realize we should have did more research before committing to the down payment. Plus all of the 5 star reviews on this page are made by them to level out their average.

Long-distance move from Mesa, AZ to Irwin, PA

Scam Business | do Not Use |.

I had called and requested a quote from Excalibur Moving Group (referred to as "EMG" from here on). Once finished talking about the quote the salesman requested a down payment to secure the moving date. I complied and paid a $500 down payment. The conversation ended and I hung up. I then proceeded to see their online reviews and saw their online presence was atrocious and immediately called back in order to obtain a refund. During the phone call I spoke with a supervisor and after going back and forth, being told a "guarantee" of a full refund if I am dissatisfied with the move, being told he is saying this on a "recorded phone call" that I was unaware was being recorded, he finally agreed to give my money back according to the contract. I waited a week and called as I had yet to see a refund enter my bank account. They claimed there is a 21 day waiting period. I then called again after 21 days to be told it is actually 21 business days, and will be in my account that day or the next. I still have yet to receive my refund and they will now avoid my phone calls. This business is a scam and YOU SHOULD NOT pay any down payment with this company. I have not been issued a refund, nor have I been serviced in my move by EMG.

Totally agree.

I totally agree with all the negative reviews on this company! I have moved at least 7 times in my life so far, but this is the worst company to work with. They never moved our stuff because they never showed up, nontheless we never got our deposit back and because of them we incurred extra costs for not being able to move out the day we were supposed and the new tenants could not move in. We also had to show up for work at new location and had to stay at a hotel for 2 weeks until we made arrangements for new moving company. And Jason was the worst. He left us hanging!
