Long-distance move from San Francisco, CA to Fayetteville, AR

Worst move of my life

Out of 20+ moves, this company was the worst by far. They damaged or destroyed over a 1/3rd of my possessions. 90% of the boxes were crushed. I know how to pack boxes for a move and I used the same techniques I've developed from the last several moves. They managed to break a 1-1/2" thick solid wood plank on a bookcase. They broke the wheels off and bent the legs of a Weber grill. They threw bed casters owned by someone else into the broken box of my gold foil-covered theater light and damaged it. Many irreplaceable items were destroyed. They assured me adequate insurance would be available via a form the movers would bring with them. The movers that arrived said it was too late to buy that level of insurance. Their support people were as unhelpful as they were unfriendly. I was in a hurry with this move and didn't research this company adequately. I'll regret it for the rest of my life.

This is a scam company

Cardinal Van Lines is a Scam and they are not moving Company. They are broker which is very important to know. They don't own any trucks and not responsible for anything. Their deceptive business practice was to give you an estimate way under to lock you in to pay down deposit. Once you pay deposit, you won't be able to get your money back. In addition, they will say to do another check closer your moving date. Then, they will jack up your estimate right before you move. You can't even take your money out. On your moving date, their subcontracted company will come and even up their cost. By then, you really get stuck and have no way out if you are required to move out of your house. On the date that we moved, we have less times than the original estimate, and our costs went up by 9K. The original estimate was 6K, and we ended up paying 19K at the end. We fought and they agree to give us rebate for 1K, after two months, still haven't got the money yet.

Also, all the reviews were fake.

Long-distance move from Redwood City, CA to Wayland, MA

Terrible customer and moving services

If I could give negative stars, I would. The company grossly underestimated the moving cost. When the movers got there, they packed up one room and then quoted that the rest of the house would cost double that. We paid for full service, what we got were 3 men in a Ryder truck with no level of experience packing items. Nothing was labeled, items were haphazardly packed, and even worse, we never received half our items upon delivery. They require a deposit, then the movers who packed our stuff and the ones who unloaded it both required checks or money orders so there's no way to file a dispute (probably because this is their usual mode of operating). When we call the movers and broker, no one is taking accountability for losing our items so we can't even file an insurance claim. Do not go with them under any circumstances. We're currently exploring legal action against them.

Moving company

This is a broker and not an actual moving company. They should have told us. They then use moving companies that do the actual moving with bad reviews so once the get their cut they are no longer as helpful and when they do finally answer they blame the other company though they were the once who made all the promises. Stuff got their eventually but not when promised so we just sat around waiting for 4 days. This is a bait and switch so beware. You get what you pay for as they say

Good Work!

The movers were efficient, friendly, hard-working. And honestly, they found several hundred dollars which I had inadvertently left lying around in the furniture to be moved. They immediately returned it to me. The company made boxes and some packing material available to us at no cost. They showed a great amount of patience while setting up in our new home, making sure I was happy with where they put the furniture. It was a very easy moving experience. I will recommend them.

Long-distance move from Columbus, OH to New York, NY

Dissatisfied with Cardinal Van Lines

My moved was from Ohio to New York and Cardinal Van Lines lied to me from the start of the process. The original quote was for 710 cu. ft. at $5000 and the final move was 1156 cu. ft. at $7633. William (sales agent) told me the move would not be any higher then the original quote. This was a false and misleading statement. The scam is that he gave me a low quote knowing the subcontracted movers would raise the price.

CVL’s explanation regarding the price increase was my fault because I did not give them an accurate inventory. They claim they use a DOT cost sheet based on my inventory list but items can be larger and raise the price.

CVL will hire another moving company to conduct the move. The company CVL hired for my move was 11EVEN MOVERS & STORAGE. Never here this company they are unprofessional, unethical and will “up charge” you for the move. They raised my move final price from $5000 to $7633. There are many broken, damaged and lost items involved in the move.

Do not hire Cardinal VanLines.

I would say that I am very disappointed in the entire moving process (after I received my quote) conducted by Cardinal Van Lines. Moving is a very stressful situation and CVL is not the company you want to hire to minimize your stress.

I am sure there are other professional moving companies across the industry, if I had a chance to do this again, I

would hire another company and not Cardinal Van Lines.

Worst moving experience

I would not recommend this company. They are a broker so they send out their jobs to different moving companies. Not only did our price increase $2800 from what was told the company hired did not bring a big enough truck so we ended up having to rent a uhaul load it ourself and drive it down ourselves. The company cardinal hired was Map Moving so put ads out on Craigslist for movers to help them. I would run away from this company. They do not stand by their word.

Thumbs Up!

They showed up about 5 minutes early, did a quick assessment of everything with the entire crew, and went to work. The delivery location was about 25 minutes away once everything was packed up. Even with that distance, they still came in UNDER their estimated time by about 3 hours with no damage to any furniture and nothing but positive attitudes. Recommended!

THE ABSOLUTE WORST

I was given a quote over the phone with a list provided to the company. I ended up getting charged DOUBLE what the original quote was and they told me there was nothing they could do about it and I would lose my $1100 deposit. Absolute worst customer service; have not heard one word since reaching out multiple times. The movers ended up losing some parts of my headboard for my bed and I called many times to ask if they left it in the truck and no response. I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS COMPANY.

Do NOT use

Called the company a week prior to my move to confirm the amount due at the time of pickup. Only then did they inform me that there was a “50/50 chance that they pickup” on the weekend my contract is signed for. Cardinal Van Lines then tried to tell me that St. Louis to Chicago is an “unusual route” and they don’t have movers there.

Sales person lied and I am now desperately hoping to get my deposit back.

Cardinal Van Lies

What can I say? My experiece with Cardinal Van Lines was horrific to say the least. They come on all nicey nicey, but when the rubber hits the road it is another experience. They make promises and commitments that are not kept. They don't readily respond as a pickup date approaches, but they are good at notifying you of delays at the last minute. To keep the process going a "driver" will call to confirm inventory and guess what - the initial quote is significantly increased. The "scam" continued when I finally got through to a representative in the morning a couple of days after scheduled pickup and I was told a truck and driver was set up. Several hours later I did get a call from a driver saying he had just been contacted to pick up my load. Several hours later????? Timing??? That driver guaranteed he would be at my house two days later, unless he had a breakdown. Guess what, the morning of the pickup I got a call from the driver four hours away saying he had had a breakdown and it would take three days for the repair. I fired them on the spot, notified Cardinal through text and email as nobody answered their phone. I got a Penske truck and went through the inconvenience of doing the move myself, but ultimately saving quite a bit of money and eliminating the uncertainty of whether Cardinal Van Lines was going to show up or not. I had a hard departure date that I had to be out of my house on the pickup end. . Moving is stressful enough but to add the Cardinal experience on top of it... From my experience Cardinal Van Lines is dishonest, disengenuous - a scam. I did get my deposit back ( even from a debit card) through using the fraud department of my bank. Whatever Cardinal Van Lines deal is I don't know??? From my experience I would run as far away from them as you can. The positive feedback you read I would be suspicious of it. I am supposed to enter a star rating of 1 to 5. I grudgenly entered a 1 because there is nothing lower!!!

Long-distance move from San Diego, CA to Boston, MA

Never did the job!

HUGE SCAM!! I paid a deposit for a move from San Diego to Boston and received a 2-day window for the pick up. The night before the second day of the window, I received a call from the movers saying that they needed to delay for a day. This was already a huge issue, as my flight to Boston was on that day. Then, they called each of the next 4 consecutive days, telling me that they could not pick me up until the next day. Finally, I was put on a schedule 4 days after my scheduled move window. That morning, I was called and told that there was a mechanical failure, and they'd come the next day. The next day, they never called or showed up. I was able to contact the driver, and he told me that I was never put on their schedule. For the next 3 days, they called again to tell me that they needed to delay for another day. Finally, I was put on the schedule AGAIN, and the truck never showed up AGAIN, despite my calling the movers and Cardinal multiple times throughout the day and receiving assurance that the truck would come. Cardinal then assured me that they could get a truck to me early the next week, and they never even called me back. I asked multiple times for a refund on my deposit so I could hire movers that would actually show up, and Cardinal refused because their movers were still "willing to do the job." Yet, they continuously never showed up or contacted me. 1 month later, Cardinal is still telling me that I can't get a refund because the movers are willing to do the job. But my lease expired 3 days after my SCHEDULED pickup window, so obviously I had to hire new movers. Do NOT book with them if you actually want your stuff to be moved. They did absolutely nothing except cost me time and money.

Long-distance move from Florida to New York

Poor Service!!!

My plan was to move my dad from Florida to NY and decided to use a company named Cardinal Van. Once the paperwork part was complete I was given a 3 day window period as to when the movers will be arriving. So I received a call that the moving truck will be arriving July 28th between 9am-12pm. Its was 12:30pm that day and NO one called me including the driver to tell me they were going to be running late. I called the company back and was told he will be arriving in an hour. Unfortunately, I had to leave for work. My dad who is 83 yrs, then waited by himself for the truck to arrive. My dad calls me at 2:30p and still no truck. I call the moving company again to find out what the delay was. I was asked "Did you speak with driver?" I said no and that he did not call me all day today to update me. Again I was told by the employee, whose name I think was Brianna, he should be there in an hour. I asked why the driver has not called me since 9am and its now 2:20pm. She says he is busy driving, its raining and there is a lot of traffic. Due to this he can't drive the truck and make calls at the same time. I have used many movng companies and never seen one person come to load the truck. When I asked if he is the only person coming to take payment and load the truck, she says "Hold on I'm going to call the driver." I can't believe what she said. Why is it that she can call the driver while he is driving, and I can't. One minute ago she told me he can't drive and be on the phone at the same time. I spoke with another customer service rep and asked if I can speak with or email the owner of the Moving company whose name is Thomas Moore, her answer "He does not speak with cliental." I'm saddened by this experience and went on to cancel my move with Cardinal Van.

Very Disappointed

I had a contract with Cardinal to deliver our stuffs from Washington to Florida after their sales agent named Jason gave us a reasonable quote. He even sent me a text stating I can contact him if I need anything. The contract was 4-21 days after pick up. After payment for deposit, I was on my own. The delivery until now is undetermined, it's already 40 days. I tried to contact Cardinal Customer Service and I couldn't get any response. Even texting Jason, no response received. At least by writing my review, I can share my experience and warn potential customers.

NOT REAL MOVERS: BEWARE SCAM

This business has been reported to CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT.

I spoke to Natalie, a manager, mid June to set up a move for August. Before signing the contract she assured me that she would call dispatch and driver to narrow down the delivery window. She informed me that the movers would get there on a specific date, a total of 15 days after pick up. I signed a contract with a pick up date August 4 or 5th. And drop of August 19. Yaniv, their dispatch, called on August 2nd to inform me that they were coming to pick up my stuff a day earlier. Told him it wasn’t scheduled to be picked up until 24 hours later, he said, “well we are here now. So if you miss us we’ll be gone and can’t move your stuff.” Um… anyway. I said, I’m already packed so it’s not a big deal, but can we make sure stuff gets dropped off on time? Yaniv said I ask too many questions and he didn’t like that. Then said do you want to move or cancel? And before I could answer he hung up on me. Called their customer service — after calling for HOURS and no one answering — and finally Rachel, a customer service rep, picked up and told me my stuff would be at least 3 weeks late. She was very nonchalant about it, like switching the dates of a dentist appointment, and not playing with the livelihood of a human being. She too told me if I didn’t like it I could cancel. The stress they put me through, during high moving season one day before the move, was ENORMOUS. No one needs to go through this, moving across country itself is stressful enough. After the way I was treated, I woke up the following morning determined to find new movers, even on short notice. I was successful, and if you are still reading this: do yourself a favor and save yourself from HUGE drama, disrespect, awful business conduct.

Find Another Company

Cardinal Van Lines is not the moving company. They serve as a middle man for other moving companies, at least they did in my case. They outsourced to “unlimited moving” which had worse reviews than Cardinal. Cardinal did not tell me that before after I signed the contract. That created more problems than I can describe, going between two different moving companies who do not care in the slightest about your move. My delivery date that we agreed upon was 10/1- 10/3 because that was the date we closed on the new house. Cardinal said they would not be a problem because of the size of our move and it would not take longer than five days to get to our new home.

Once I signed the contract and set up a time for them to come pick up my possessions, Cardinal would not take my call nor respond to messages. Which I found odd because I thought they were the ones picking up my stuff. Come to find out, it was another company that showed up on the moving day. Which was very concerning and upsetting. Like it was a scam. The scam came an hour later when that moving company charge me an extra $6,200. They said although the itinerary was 100% accurate, cardinal underestimated the cubic footage of my stuff.

I was told I would have a truck to myself because we had so many items in our two-story house, and it would be a semi truck. Unlimited Moving showed up in a large budget truck and said they would have to bring another large budget truck the next day to finish up the load. To be fair, the loaders were very hard working and professional. When signing the paperwork, I noticed that it said our stuff would not arrive for 2 to 3 weeks after the agreed-upon date of arrival. I shared with them what cardinal promised me and they said they were sorry but that is how long it takes. And that our stuff will just sit in storage until they could find someone to drive it to our new home.

We moved from Illinois to SC. It was a two story house with a finished basement. They updated quote with all our items (including 94 boxes of stuff) was $17,200. When the movers from Unlimited move-in got to our house, our final price went up to $23,670. Again, I asked how that could be and what could be done because the list was 100% complete and that’s not my problem. And they said to move forward with the move and for them to move my stuff, they had to charge me that much or not move me.

Several expensive items were damaged or missing despite our several hundred dollars worth of bubble wrap, foam padding and heavy duty boxes. Even things such as our $500 smokeless fire pit, which is metal. There are three HUGE dents on all sides, like they purposely threw it down stairs.

Our stuff, including my 1 year old’s stuff was 2 1/2 weeks late. They finally showed in two large trucks again. One was a day late despite following the first truck. How does that happen??

Anything that can go wrong with these companies, happens. Try to find any other moving company.

Moving experience with Cardinal Van Lines

This company is deceptive in their how they operate, what they say they will do, and how they present their services. Horrible mistake to use this company. William was person I spoke with. Disappeared after initial contact. Stay as far away from this company as possible. If you use them or the companies they foist you off on, you will regret it. Be particularly vigilant regarding their supposed insurance coverage. Just as worthless as the company. It's what they don't tell you that will cost you in the end.
