Long-distance move from Florida to New York

Pleasantly Surprised.

I'd like to start by saying the overall move was flawless. The process of picking a mover was one of the most stressful things I ever had to do , I mean even moreso than me buying my new car. I must of gotten dozen of calls and millions of emails from all types of movers, I never thought when I went online to Billy.com would I get so many replies back for moving me. I went and spoke to about 10 different companies and in the end my choice was Beacon Movers because of their sales person Joe was the most informative and helpful individual I spoke to out of the bunch. I'm very pleased with how everything went and with my choice I'd recommend Joe and Beacon to anyone anytime.

Long-distance move from Virginia to Nevada

Fraudulent.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!   They took advantage of a 85 year old woman on a fixed income tramatized already by having to moving to be with family because she could no longer support herself.   The "BINDING - Not to Exceed Estimate was $2,548. I received a call this moring that said upon deliver they wanted an additional $2000 above the money I already paid bringing the cost to 4,548 with NO details regarding the reason.   Both the saleman, Michael, or the home office in Brooklyn NY were reponsive to phone calls seeking an explaination.   The amount doesn't reach the threshold for policie involvment - although they have been informed in Brooklyn, Las Vegas, and Virginia.   Anne Wilson.

Do Not Use This Company.

This is by far the worst movers I have ever encountered. They extorted money from me on pick up in cash and failed to deliver on time, threatening that if tips and extra cash from ATM wasn't withdrawn my goods would be damaged and never delivered. My delivery arrived 2 days late and multiple items were damaged. Further, I was lied to about packing materials and the fact the truck would be exclusively mine. It wasn't.

Beacon Moving & Storage - TERRIBLE.

Beacon Moving & Storage are TERRIBLE. They quote significantly cheaper prices for moving your stuff, but you end up paying for it later, both in frustration, time and money.Firstly, the company that comes to pick your stuff up is not called Beacon, they are another company called Amiran. They came to pick our stuff up on time (we moved from NY to AL), but about 10min after they arrived, they said that it would cost more than what I was quoted by Joe because we exceeded "the cubic volume" that we quoted to them over the phone. To jack you on the price they will say one of these three things that you either exceed: the number of items on your list, the cubic volume or the weight. Once they packed everything up they take it to a warehouse where it will sit until they can get enough jobs to fill the van and drive it to your state. THEY ARE NOT BUSY FOR A REASON.They were a week & a half late with our delivery. The people we spoke to EVERYDAY until our stuff finally came were George and Michael. George is rude, unprofessional and lies about everything. We were given all kinds of excuses as to why our stuff wasn't being delivered: "the truck needs repairs", "the truck is on another job" etc. When our stuff finally came, things were DAMAGED or LOST, they also tried to keep our step ladder and again we were jacked on the price we were expected to pay. Again it was someone from Amiran. This guy was also named George and he was borderline violent. He threatened to leave with all of our stuff and also didn't want to assemble our bed. You don't need to put up with that when you have paid for a service and want it rendered.I strongly encourage you NOT to use this company to move. PLEASE save yourself a huge headache.

Long-distance move from Virginia to California

LIARS! Do not go with Beacon Moving!!

LIARS, LIARS, LIARS!!  My husband and I needed a moving company quickly to go from Alexandria, VA to Belmont, CA (Basically Washington D.C. to San Francisco) for a new job.  The salesman I talked to, Joe, was a smooth talker from the start and promised that our things would arrive on July 6th.  They picked up our things on June 27th so that is almost two weeks of delivery time.  He was sure that the window in receiving our things would be July 6-8th.  I know now that he just convinces people to use their company through whatever means possible.  We believed him and made sure we arrived on July 5th to meet our furniture and move into our apartment.  We were starting to pay for rent the day we got there (and hotel stays).  From then on it has been a series of calls and people saying "your things will arrive in 3 days".  WE STILL DO NOT HAVE OUR THINGS and it has been 26 calendar days (or 17 BUSINESS days as they like to refer it as).   We found out that our contract actually included a date range.  It says earliest delivery date is July 6th and latest delivery date is July 27th.  They never verbally mentioned that.  They just sneak it into your contract.  Looks like they were always planning on getting here on the "latest date".  But they are going even past that date.   5 days ago I called the driver, Demetri from Amiran Van Lines.  They are the company that they use for moving, not Beacon like you might think.  4 days ago I was told our things would arrive Monday, today, July 22.  2 days ago the truck driver said it would be Wednesday, July 26th and this morning he said they gave him more stops to do (they consolidate your furniture with other peoples' and drop their things off along the way) and that now the date would be sometime "at the end of the week".   Mike, a supervisor, told me last week that our things were sitting in storage for the first two weeks, because "a truck had broken down".  After reading other reviews, I see that they say that, but they actually try getting more jobs before they decide to move our things. We have tried talking to George, the owner.  The one time my husband got on the phone with him he was rude and would not listen.  He also promised some date to get us to hang up the phone.  That date came and went 2 weeks ago. I just called the dispatcher line again asking what happens if our things get here past their "latest delivery date" (which is VERY likely since the driver has about 5 or 6 more stops along the way and he isn't even in Missouri yet).  The supervisor is "going to call me back" after the 21 business days which really means I'll be calling him next Monday again.  They always say they'll call you back and never do. We plan on updating this day to day until we get our things.   I hope you do not go with Beacon Moving!!  I am pregnant and this whole experience has been extremely frustrating and distressing for us.  They truly are the worst moving company out there.  They are "cheaper" than other companies, but now we know why.  .

LIARS, Thieves, Rude, and Unprofessional.

I am so very pissed off with this disgusting company and how they treat their customers. Every employee I dealt with after the pick-up of my furniture was very disrespectful. I am pregnant and they did not get all my belongings such as crib, bed frame, tv stand, lamps, mattress, and box spring from our storage. Even though it was in the contract for all items to be in the truck. They then tried to con me out of an additional $500.00 dollars to bring the rest and said there was no more room, but if I paid the extra that they would make it fit! How can you do that to people? These scavengers don't deserve to do business and I hope they falter. The manager and owner did nothing to help and hung up on me and my husband numerous times about the unprofessional mess! Whoever is thinking of using a moving company, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Long-distance move from Maryland to Florida

They called m a.

As I was doing my online research for an upcoming move, I wound up on their site and had to enter my email and phone number to get the quote. I received a vague voicemail a few weeks later from someone named "Peter," who wished to speak with me about my upcoming move. Thinking it was the moving company my new job had contracted I gave him a call back. It only took a few moments to realize this guy was going hard for the sell, and after apologizing for the confusion I tried to get off the line. Long story short, Peter called m a "f*ck*ng b*tc$" and hung up on me in the process. Even if I didn't already have a moving company figured out, I would never go with them. Talk about rude, unprofessional and inept. And after reading the reviews I can't say I'm surprised they have a horrible reputation.

Do Not Use These Rip Off Artists!!

OMG talk about a NIGHTMARE from HELL! These movers are scam artists to say the least! First of all they will give you a quote and then when they come over to move you, they jack up price another thousand! Do not fall for this! Then they take apart things that shouldn't be taken apart and break them! All our furniture is destroyed. A beautiful dining room table..destroyed..a Gorgeous $800 desk..destroyed..Expensive Frames destroyed, the list goes on. Then, when you try to call Victor to reimburse you for the items destroyed they refuse to call you back or speak to you! They also told us for the stairs we had to pay $100 cash but when they go there they tried to scam us for $200 instead! Such liars! They also tell you to give them a money order so when we gave them a cashiers check which is even better then cash, they refused it and wasted 3 hours refusing to unload until we switched it to a money order or cash! They also didn't even get to us until 8 days after pick up! a one - two day drive took 8 days for them! The whole experience was a nightmare, we thought we were looking up another company off the internet and used them by mistake. Dont make this same mistake! They are a joke and a complete rip off! .

Long-distance move from Georgia to Virginia

Avoid This Company!

Avoid this company! The men who packed up and delivered my items were hardworking, polite, and caring, and I have nothing but compliments for them. This rest of my experience with them was nightmarish. After my initial quote, I realized I would be moving more items and called them more than a week ahead of time to receive a new quote. They didn't want to give me a new quote, saying that the drivers would determine the actual price when they picked up the items. I told them this would be a problem for me, as money was tight, and I needed to know ahead of time what I would owe. They said I could pay it upon delivery (my stuff would be stored for a month). When the van showed up, the driver told me they needed an additional $1600 cash in order to move my stuff. (I couldn't come up with that much cash on short notice, so Beacon didn't move all my stuff, and I had to contract with yet another moving company to get the rest of it!) The driver told me I would need to pay $2150 in cash or by cashier's check upon delivery.  When I scheduled delivery, I was told that it would "probably be Thursday" and that I needed to make a deposit of $1150 by wire transfer that day in order to schedule the delivery. I had moved to a rural area, and my bank requires me to make wire transfers in person, so I was unable to do that. I called them the next day, and after talking to two different people, who put me on hold while they talked to several more, they agreed to let me make it on my debit card. I spoke initally with Victor, who was quite annoyed with me that I was unable to make a wire transfer. He brushed aside my annoyance that I was told to pay them cash upon delivery and was now being asked to drive an hour to my bank to make a wire transfer. Anyway, I made the deposit by debit card, but the van didn't show up Thursday. I finally got a call on Saturday afternoon to let me know the van was on its way. Not having heard from them by mid-morning Saturday, I had made the hour trip into town to run errands. I explained I was an hour away from home and asked how long it would take them to get there. I apologized but told him the last I heard the delivery was scheduled for three days before, and no one had called with a new date. He became annoyed with me and accused me of not answering my phone (my phone log doesn't show any calls from them). At any rate, they showed up after dark on Saturday evening and immediately told me that I needed to pay them $2150 in order to have my stuff delivered. I told them I'd made a deposit of $1150 on that $2150 already. The driver called the company and was told I had not. We spent the next 20 minutes arguing about this, with the person on the other end of the phone insisting I needed to pay the whole amount and that I hadn't made a deposit and that "it hadn't gone through." I was able to pull up my bank account on the Internet and show the driver that the charge had gone through. He told the person he was speaking to on the phone, but they didn't believe him. Ultimately, he had to take a picture of my online bank statement with a cell phone and email it to the company before they let him unload my stuff. I was their last delivery of the trip, and the first two items off the van (a sewing machine and a box of baby pictures) were not mine. The previous delivery was to an address in SC, so if you're in SC , had a delivery around 1/12/13, and are missing those items, they have them. Many of my boxes marked "fragile" were upside down and crushed, but so far I have not found any significant damage to the items. (They were not initially packed this way; I believe this occurred when they were put in or taken out of storage). I've only just begun to unpack, though. I'm very nervous that some of my items might not have made it, given that they keep track of items on a log sheet, and if I have two of someone else's, I'm probably missing two of mine. To sum up, avoid this company! Each person I spoke with told me something different. They change their terms after they have your stuff, essentially holding it hostage so that you have to do things their way. They strongly prefer dealing in cash, but they don't seem able to keep track of payments made to them, and while I found their moving men professional and hardworking (at least one of them on each end of the move spoke English well), the company, itself, quite clearly doesn't trust them.

Long-distance move from Virginia to New York

Owner.

Let me start by saying that their sales person and their delivery teams were honest, polite and hard working. The same cannot be said for the owner. Aside from being rude and unprofessional (refused to put the items where  they were supposed to go - as per the contract/agreement), Victor made some very prejudiced and discriminating remarks. In the  3 decades I have lived in this home I have never been subjected to such bigotry. Made me more than a little uncomfortable. Especially when he started walking around the house and questioning me about the property/yard. .
