Long-distance move from Nova Scotia to Ontario

Great Movers.

A big thank you to Atlantic Van Lines for their great service.  I had a small move from St Andrews, NS to Guelph, ON and they offered a great price and amazing service.  My move was not bit but they treated me with the same amount of respect as any other customer.  The sales reps were great.  I had my stuff in storage in their warehouse for about 5 months, and had visited the warehouse.  Facilities were clean and the staff was very helpful.  They let me bring a few items in to add to the stored goods and didn't charge me anything extra.  I had met the office staff and the girls were very nice - I probably know all of their life stories by now..lol
The price was very fair as well, especially for storage.

Fabolous Service.

In my opinion this company did a good job with our long distnace move.  I had a few small items that were damaged, but in general everything that was important to me and my family we recieved in great condition.
The best was that everything did arrive on time.  The last time we moved with another van lines we waived over 4 weeks to recieve our stuff and no communication.  This time it was easy to track our shipment, and we were able to have our possesions back fairly quickly.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
And I would recommend them due to their customer service.

Long-distance move from Ontario to Alberta

Poor service.

We moved from Markham, Ontario to edmonton, alberta. Estimated cost by salesman was $4000 and actual invoice value was $9850. Poor estimate by the saleman in spite of actual verification of articles prior to providing an estimate.  When the goods got delivered, many articles were missing including boxes containing expensive items, bedroom sets, etc. Looks like Atlantic Vanlines sub contract delivery to someone and delivery folks service was totally unprofessional. They did damage walls at the time of getting the furnitures in. Above all these hardships, Atlantic Vanlines response to claims were pathetic and totally un professional. It is now more than a year of my move, yet to recieve even a single penny for the lost goods or damaged wall in the house. Worst nightmare for me and my family. Will never recommend this to anyone.

Rip Off Company.

Atlantic Van Lines was the worse company I have ever dealt with. I originally got a quote for a two bedroom with no big appliences for 825 that was with 30 days of free storage and they would wrap my items free, I packed my own boxes. When they got to Ontario 7 days later, they then proceeded to tell my my new price was 2727.40 almost over 3 times more then I was quotes, they had sooo many hidden fees. Less then 30 days after I got a call saying they had my stuff they told me my month of free storage was up. They said the free month started from the day they picked my stuff up even tho they had told me that it would be in a staorage unit for 30 days not in the back of a truck. They wouldn't even tell me where my stuff was until a month after they got here. Worse company ever. Liasr! I would never recommend this copmpany to anyone. RIP OFF!!

Never Use Atlantic Van Lines.

WORST COMPANY EVER .. this company has no way to track a shipment, their attitude on lost items is lets wait and see if it shows up. The insurance is a JOKE, you cannot insure individual items only the entire shipment, so any loss is divided by the total weight. They "weigh" your items without you present so no way to verify the weight. We weighed ours as we were packing and there was a 1200 pound difference to their total. They charge you for a reweigh which you also are not present for. On the lost item they settle at 60 cents per pound but they also have a $395 deductible (for what I don't know, they LOST the item). To make matters worse when you agree on the lost item weight, they still charge you for the delivery of that item even though you NEVR get it .  The customer service is abysmal, starts out OK until there is a problem and then Anita the manager is never in the office, nor will she return phone calls.  Our only resolution was disputing the charges with the credit card company, oh yeah, they also charge you a 3% surcharge for using a credit card….. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Do not hire Atlantic Van Lines, unless..

Today, when you go home, take a moment to look around your living room. Take a good look at all your furniture, your favorite chair, maybe some pieces are still not fully paid, or maybe some of them have been in the family for a while. Go to your bedroom and do the same. Think about how much money, effort, and time, has taken you and your family to gather all the items that make your home be home.
Now close your eyes, and imagine every single piece of furniture with a visible scratch and, for some, imagine that small pieces of wood have been peeled off. Imagine your lamps with broken shades, or darkened with spots made by an oily substance. Imagine one of your kids bed gone, and the dollhouse that made your daughter happy last Christmas vanish.
That’s the experience I got with Atlantic Van Lines, for over eleven thousand dollars, plus broken and lost items.
I will begin by saying that I have moved about 22 times in my life. Out of those 22 times, I have hired professional movers only 10 times. Well, make that 9, because the service I got from Atlantic Van Lines has not been professional at all. Here’s why:
On July 15th, 2013 I confirmed my move from Edmonton, AB to Waterloo, ON, scheduled for August 10th. We were excited about hiring, for the first time, a professional service to take care of the move, from packing to delivering. We didn’t know the rules, so we asked at least a couple of times what should be done before the move, with the same answer both times: “nothing, don’t worry about it”.
Friday August 9th: Even though we were told to expect a phone call to setup a time for pickup we didn’t receive a phone call all day. When I called, around 16:00, the answer was “the schedule is not finalized, so by the end of the day you will get a call”.
Saturday August 10th: For some reason (we thought we hired a professional, serious company), we hoped someone would show up. Around 11:00 am, my call was picked up by a person clearly annoyed by my inquiry, saying in a rather rude tone that they would show up between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. Around 3:00 pm the same person, now even more annoyed and more rude, said they would show up before 5:00, assuring they would have the truck loaded in one or two hours. This person didn’t even asked me who I was, neither looked up anything on a computer; she just brushed me off. Of course nobody showed up. My emails to customer service remain unanswered until now.
Monday August 12th: After a very stressful Sunday, we finally made contact with Atlantic Van Lines. Early in the afternoon they sent somebody to pick up our items. We had to sign the paperwork for our new home, so we were already in Ontario, and were forced to ask friends to be at our place to make sure the movers would take everything. Movers warned immediately about two things: the truck was not large enough to take everything we had, and it would take 10 hours. Atlantic Van Lines did nothing about it, and sure enough, it took 10 hours and some items were left behind. Our friends had to pitch-in packing stuff to make things go faster. Of course I had to get rid of my wines and liquors, because Atlantic Van Lines neglected to let us know they would not take those items, even though we asked more than once if there was something we needed to know. A standard letter would suffice, you would think, but that’s professional thinking, too high level for this company.
Tuesday August 13th: They came back to pickup the rest of our items. The surprise of the day is that when I talked to the manager of Atlantic Van Lines (Lucy), she knew nothing about our case, even though we were told (by Farah) she was aware of everything.
Friday August 30th: Items were delivered at our home, after 17 days (14 in transit, and we were told 5 to 10 days in several occasions). We paid the trucker. What we found later was shocking.
Two broken book cases (broken in half, literally), two missing bicycles (delivered a couple of weeks later), my daughter’s dollhouse missing, one of my kid’s bed missing (also delivered a couple of weeks later, with some damage), more than half or our wine glasses broken (why? Because they packed them underneath pans), things thrown into boxes carelessly, stained boxes with an oily substance, no lamp made it intact, broken adjustable legs of the stove, most of the furniture with visible marks of being hit or mishandled, and the list goes on and on…

I have never seen a display of such unprofessionalism and bad service by a moving company. Clearly the people doing the work are not professional movers. I have seen professional movers before, and these are not it. To be fare, it is not the movers’ fault. These are guys hired and sent to work with no training, no experience, and they are doing what they can to get things done.

I wish I would have read these reviews before hiring Atlantic Van Line.

I would never recommend the moving company that I used for my move from Brantford to Sarnia. I was originally quoted $925 (500lbs included in this quote) 26 cents per lb. They told me that I had 3890 in weight and I look at my stuff and wonder where the rest of it is because I can't see everything weighing that much. At the end of it all, I paid $2225.00. They charged me $75 per half hour for waiting for payment before my things were unloaded. They told me my price at 7pm (after my bank was closed) and sent the movers to my place before the bank opened the next day to be able to charge me the extra. If I was 5 minutes late they were going to charge me an additional $75. I offered to do a e-transfer and they had the excuse that their accountant doesn't arrive until 10am, so I couldn't do an e-transfer. They wanted me to use my credit card but they were going to charge me an additional 3% for processing fees. So, I had no choice but to wait until my bank was open to get the bank draft. The movers would not unload one item until they received payment in full for the move. I was also charged Warehouse handling fees and when I asked the representative from the company about that, and I had to remind her that I was loaded one day and delivered to the next morning, she said "it wouldn't have come off the truck." then she said "I will talk to the accountant and get that refunded to you" I also informed her "I want the 13% for the taxes you charged on that as well" When the move was done, I noted so much damage to so many items. I lost over half of my grandmother's crystal from England, the one and only plate I had left from my grandmother they broke, wine glasses from Germany 4 out of 6 broken (things with sentimental value), my pantry the bottom door was ripped off and the back was totally off (they handed me the nails to fix it on my own), gauge marks on my speakers, fireplace credenza (which is less than a year old) gauge marks on a decorative table I had a my door, major gauge marks on and pieces of wood missing from my bedside table and probably more damage if I really looked around. Their response was "You will have to put in a claim for all the damage" "I will send you the claims form to fill out", I haven't received it yet. I asked for a copy of the CAT Scale weigh in and a copy of my bill without all the white out, still haven't received anything. Other than getting everything here, I would never recommend them to anyone. I thought that if I used a professional moving company, I wouldn't have any damage but I will say I have moved many times with friends and family over the years with a lot less damage done to my things.

Moving with Atlantic Van Lines.. DON'T DO IT!

This is the worst experience I’ve had with any company. Everything in the agreement was broken. They gave me a four hour window of when they would arrive to pick up my belongings; I had to wait 5 hours. I was told that the delivery date would be 2-6 days. They DID NOT say business days and did not say departure was from the city I lived in, not my house. It took them three weeks to delivery my belongings from Calgary to Victoria. I would constantly call and ask where my stuff was and they kept telling me its going to be there in two days, over and over again. They had my textbooks, which I need for school so my grades fell because of them.. In addition, I got charged double what I was quoted and they tried to over charge me by calculating the taxes incorrectly! I don’t think I had a single piece of furniture that wasn’t damaged. They transported my vintage record player upside down, which now doesn’t work. When I asked for compensation they used every excuse they could to not reimburse me for the damage but they gave me a whopping $75 for the inconvenience! Are you kidding me?! I STRONGLY discourage using Atlantic Van Lines. Their customer service is appalling and I was treated terribly. It would have been cheaper for me to buy all new belongings than to go with Atlantic Van Lines.

Lying theiving crooks.

This was by far the worst, period. I chose to move my 425sq ft apt to a city 375 km away. I asked them for an estimate, etc, giving them a list of belongings. The quote can back at $765 plus taxes. And any other incurred charges. I'm glad I took pictures before the place was packed up, and after it was. Their drivers were over 12 hrs late picking my stuff up. Then the next day, at 5:30 pm, she calls me to arrange delivery.. Which also is not corresponding with the original agreement.. And politely informed me of the cost..$2380! Over triple the quote, saying the scale weight was almost 3000lbs!! Yeah, maybe if you weigh the crate it's on with the three movers sitting on it!! Then she says, "oh we can provide storage for five weeks for free" WHAT?!
..definitely being overcharged, put out, and basically feeling completely violated. Maybe one day I will get my belongings back, and they will be in perfect condition.. But I have lost my optimism. Moving companies are lying thieving crooks.

Too long between pickup and delivery! **PACKER BEWARE**.

Overall rating I am giving is AVERAGE, because some parts of our experience were UNSATISFACTORY; and others GOOD:

PROS:
*Initial contact with head office was very friendly and we were offered a quote on the move, with expected pick up date (it was a window of about 5 days). See additional comments below.
*Pick up crew was friendly, professional, and efficient
*All email communications were answered promptly by the general office manager
*Furniture items were professionally wrapped in thick blankets and some other items required to be packed were done very well (see additional comments below)
*Delivery crew was friendly and courteous

CONS:
-The initial email with the quote did not give any details about insurance or damage. It was only upon pick up that I was required to sign a waiver to agree to a $325.00 deductible on any claim of losses or damages. (I recommend you ASK about their terms of liability prior to engagement)
-There was no communication from the movers unless we prompted them through email. For example, over the phone I was told that I would be contacted when the load would be delivered; but it was only after an additional email that I was finally given a delivery date. This is unacceptable, and I feel that an approximate delivery date should be provided at the time of the quote. (Something I would insist in future)
-The delivery crew refused to assemble our bed upon arrival, indicating "they didn't pay me to do that". So, it appears that Atlantic Movers is sub-contracting the pick up and delivery services.
-25 days from the time of pick up to delivery with no reason provided for (what seems like) a delay?
- The cost of the packing items is ASTRONOMICAL! $10 for a 2' cube; $20 for a 4'; and $40 for a wardrobe box. No matter what, you'll have to pay for some packaging - but when I was purchasing boxes locally for $1 - $3, it's crazy to have to pay 1000% mark up for the mover's boxes! Take my advice, and PACK IT YOURSELF! In addition to the boxes, they charged extra for the plastic wrapping ($40) of the items that were wrapped with furniture blankets. (I would have thought that this was included in the proper security of furniture items.)
- We were not contacted when the delivery time was changed from "between 11 and 4" to "between 5 and 7". I only found out about the change when I called to confirm that they had received my payment.
- One box (packed by me with great care, and plenty of bubble wrap and paper) was clearly marked "extremely fragile" and yet when it arrived, it had clearly been mishandled. Thank goodness my Tiffany lamp was okay, but I lost a shade on one of my antique lanterns.
-One of our antique wooden pieces has a gouge on it that will need to be repaired.

Atlantic Van Lines.

This was our fifth move by professional movers and our worst experience.
They agreed to a 2 day move..pack first day move second day. I found out two days before our move that they were going to do it all in one day. By then I had no choice. arrived at 7:30 am with 3 guys to pack and move a 4 bedroom house. These guys were right po'd when they saw what a big job it was. Consequently the packing was horrible. They filled these huge boxes to the top with NO bubble wrap or paper between items. The guys where rushing so fast to get the job done that very little care was taken with our possessions. They left our new home at 11:30pm that same day and they had no clue what was in the boxes. They couldn't even find our bedding.
The sales guy low balled the estimate by over 3000 pounds. Maybe he was new. Maybe he does it on purpose. Their people are highly trained on the broken record technique "sorry nothing we can do it's policy"
We put in a claim for all our belongings that they damaged and haven't heard a word. We will never use them again.

Beware of this company.

Lied about everything..quote turned out to be 25% higher than originally quoted.. They quoted low on purpose just to get the order..then when they have your furniture..they will increase the price and not release it until you pay.  I was originally quoted $2500.00 and then it was increased to $3500.00.   Delivery staff were very unpleasant and made the whole experience very uncomfortable. I do have to thank them however for opening my eyes to checking reviews first..now that I see what all the others are saying about Atlantic..I kick myself for not doing my due diligence before hiring them for the job..  .

DO NOT USE this company - unprofessional, unreliable.

Original quote $ 1204, 2nd quote $ 1595

I hired Atlantic Van lines without looking into company reviews or the BBB, had I done so, I would NEVER have hired them. I hired the company May 2 via Christina White quote and call on May 4th to confirm details and request the price for monthly storage after 5 weeks if I was not ready to move, she quoted 125/mth, and no mention of warehouse fees. The dispatch/drivers/movers were booked 2 times before they actually made it to my Castlegar address. They were scheduled to arrive between 6 - 8 pm. Unfortunately, I never received a call until 11:45 pm by the property manager telling me the moving company had just arrived they were then given my number and spoke to me about moving my stuff during the middle of the night. I thought that type of service to be un-professional and I received quite a lash back from the property manager about the late arrival and move. I had much fear and anxiety do to the fact the truck had no branding on it, that perhaps I hired a scam company. The driver assured me I nothing to worry about. After a few phone calls Chritina White was no longer the manager of my case, someone named Samantha with no last name, again un-professional took my distressed call about where my belongings were, and where was my contract or invoice for the move so far, as my belongings were going into storage with them. May 20th I sent another demanding email requesting the above info from my move early May on May 28th, and finally received basic wait, cost and address of my storage. I called mid September to request my belongings be delivered to Vancouver Island, and spoke with a female. She was to set up my move and full invoice via email by Oct 1, I then spoke with Samantha and requested the same info and delivery. Still no response for several weeks (I have cell bill to prove I called). Oct 20 I called again, to request delivery and my full invoice for a delivery on Nov 1. Once I was assured by Samantha my delivery would be done Nov 1, I offered a flexible timing during this week, so they could que up with another load to move to the island to help save them fees etc, as I believe this is good business. I emailed Samantha Oct 27 to request that my delivery needs to be during the day, as it was going into a local storage facility, which I provided all the details for that delivery. The response was they will contact me, but no contact came in, finally on Nov 2nd I again emailed Samantha to request dispatch has not yet contacted me for my delivery, with no response. Nov 3, Samantha emailed me to let her know if I did not hear from dispatch, so I called at 9 am only to be devastated that she accused me of not being available for contact from dispatch on Nov 2, which I have since contacted my cell company to confirm no calls came in from anyone in her entire company or calls from numbers either unknown or blocked or from a number not recognised. I gave up sailing plans just to be available to confirm my delivery. Plus, I needed items in my storage for my birthday going away weekend for Nov 4th. Samantha said I was lying and that its my fault they tried all day Nov 2 to contact me. Now she added that a delivery can not happen unless they speak with me, yet I requested contact on 4 occasions. I have cell bills to show the number of times I called and emails to show written attempts. Samantha came back to the line for the 3rd time leaving me on hold for long periods of time suggesting that my delivery was not coming due to my fault and next delivery would be Nov 12, I said that is unaceptable unless they provide me with a discount of some kind. I was very distressed at this point and asked to speak with a GM and she said we do not have one, she is the highest manager and will NOT be giving me a discount, and offered to provide me with the dispatch contact info, she then hung up on me. Sent an email stating they are trying to deliver in a timely manner and has still not provided the dispatch info. nor a discount, for still upcoming delivery that may or may not arrive on time; plus I am charged 150/mth storage an additional 25 more per month.

This company holds you and your earthly possesions hostage, DO NOT USE.

Check with Better Business Bureau they have 23 claims against them plus all the reviews here.

Actual cost $ 3496.53 plus now they want 3 % additional charge for using my credit card.

Worst Company Imaginable.

Atlantic Van Lines is by far the worst experience I have ever had as a consumer. My frustrations ultimately became laughable due to the sheer clueless and carelessness of this company.
Their major offences:
- The delivery was three weeks late
- They attempted to grossly overcharge me based on their mistake (and ended up overcharging only a couple hundred dollars after tirelessly reasoning with them)
- My 'service representative' Roy Clarke kept me completely in the dark on all the happenings of the move and displayed a complete and utter disregard to my rights and interests as a patron of his company.
- Mine and my wife's personal belongings were held hostage.

A brief summary of my experience:

Aug 24 - Call placed to AVL, solicitation. Shipment arrival estimated Oct 3rd. Pickup window established between Sept 6-12 (Six Day Window?!)

Sept 6 - Haven't heard anything from anyone (including the mysterious Roy Clarke, our Service Rep). I call, they have no answers, they will call me right back, no return call takes place.

Sept 14 - Still nothing, I call again. They say truck is coming tomorrow. Remember, this is with no forewarning, I had to call them.

Sept 15 - Truck arrives for pickup, three days after the extravagant 6-day window closed.

Sept 16 - Email received from Service Rep Roy: "Shipment will arrive in 17-21 day (October 6th). Later than the original estimate, but marginally so.

Oct 11 - (26 Days after shipment, no email or call from Roy or anyone) I call them, they know nothing; I have to call Calgary dispatch, which I do: "Oh, your shipment has been sitting here." Frustration. Roy Clarke couldn't even send me an email, let alone call me, to let me know my things have been sitting in Calgary (for how long?). I had to hunt with multiple phone calls from my work to find this out. I set up a delivery with Calgary dispatch next week.

Oct 17 - 1530pm; I receive a call from Calgary Dispatch: "Your boxes arrive tomorrow, how would you like to pay". I reply Credit Card (the only reasonable way to purchase something in the thousands). They remind me of a 3% credit card service charge (which turns out was in the fine print of my quote, but come on!) I arrange time off work to take care of the boxes.

Oct 17 - 1700pm; I received an email from Roy Clarke (which I did not realize until the next day because instead of calling, he sent an email at 5pm)

Oct 18 - I notice and read the email. It contains a cost summary; just over $2000 based on a scaled weight of 1560lbs. However, I self-weighed all my items at 805lbs, I expected some change in weight at the scales, but a discrepancy of over 700lbs, which would cost me hundreds of dollars more, must be a mistake. In addition, this is being addressed ON THE DAY my boxes arrive because my service representative EMAILED me the night before. Frustration ensues.
I call Roy; explain to him the scaled weight cannot be correct as it is nearly double what I know I put on the truck (weighing each box individually, albeit with a bathroom scale, but still..) Roy gives me two choices (more of an ultimatum considering..);

Choice 1: Despite a ridiculous scaling error (their mistake) I would have to wait at least an additional week (to my already 3-week late shipment) AND pay a re-delivery fee. All so they can return to the scales to correct their mistake.

Choice 2: "The best I can do", says Roy, "is call it 1000lbs and charge you that". I reluctantly accepted the offer, even though it constitutes charging me over $150 more, given that they are assuming I had approximately 200lbs more on the truck than I actually did. But my wife and I needed our things three weeks ago, so I couldn't allow it to be delayed any more.

I think given the mistakes this company made prior to this the "best" they could do is take my word for it at 805lbs, but given that they threatened to not deliver my things if we didn't work it out (effectively holding my shipment hostage) perhaps I should see Choice 2 as a gracious offer, but I digress.

The icing on the proverbial cake is that all of the cardboard boxes were horribly squished, and all of the plastic tubs were cracked and broken, with our personal belongings half falling out of some of the boxes. Thankfully, my wife and I packed diligently and nothing was broken, and so far nothing seems to be missing.

In summary, Atlantic Van Lines based their entire costing on a single scaling, which they got grotesquely incorrect. Compounded by the fact that the service representative, Roy Clarke, gave me the official cost summary (which was wrong) the day of delivery, I was forced in to an unprofessional deal which involved charging me an overestimated sum of money based on zero substantiating evidence of costing. Not to mention the damaged boxes, late arrival, and a complete disregard for keeping me informed, forcing me to play 'transit broker' between AVL and Calgary, as well as having my boxes sit in Calgary without me knowing about it for who knows how long.

How a company can stay afloat with such blatant ignorance for common decency and business ethics is beyond my comprehension.

Please be diligent in reading consumer reviews. Had I visited this website I would have never gone with this company, as many others have dealt with what I have.

Atlantic Van Lines; I recommend hiring some new staff and starting to hold yourself accountable for your poor business practice. Step it up.

Atlantic Van Lines is AWFUL.

Atlantic Van Lines is the worst experience I have ever had and I regret not looking up reviews before I went with them.
- They overcharged me a disgusting amount
- My representative "Roy" never responded to me within a timely manner and had no desire to fulfill any sort of customer service.
- A lots of my belongings were damanged.
- I tried to claim some of my belongings back and they offered us a total of $50.

I had weighed all the items myself before they came and they charged me double the amount. Thinking that they actually used "government issued scales" I believed them and decided not to argue or ask for any form of proof.

When my items arrived to my new home the movers were racist and rude. After throwing all my belongings in the house (leaving no space for me to even walk) they accused me of lying to them saying that I had no steps that led to my unit, they had the audacity to ask how long I had been living in Canada and if I even understood English.

After unpacking all my belongings I found a couple things had been damanged. My flat screen TV, my expensive lamp, my bicycle and some antique cabinets. I asked Roy for the claim process and he said that I would have to take some photos, estimate the original price etc etc. I did this promptly. It took them a total of 8 weeks to respond to me. Their first excuse was that the claim director was "out of office." The second time they just didn't reply. After finally getting a response they said their claims were based on the estimated WEIGHT of the item. Then why go through all the trouble of asking me to submit a form with photos and estimated cost and how old the items were?? Finally, they offered me a return of $50 to all my damaged items. I honestly thought that was some kind of joke.

All in all, Altantic Van Lines is an awful company whose main goal is to scam people. I hope no one EVER uses them again or has the same experience as I have had. I am shocked as to how they are still an actual company.

I would give it zero stars if I could.

Worst Company in History. Do not hire them. They quote low depending the guessed weight of your stuff. Weight is ALWAYS higher. Furniture is held hostage until you pay up. My final payment was $4000 ABOVE my quote. Lots of my stuff was damaged beyond repair and I was offered $50 in compensation. Walls and floors were damaged in both homes but they are not liable so they don't care. Do yourself a favour and get a company that comes into your house, gives you a guaranteed quote and has good insurance. You will be happier for it.

Disappointed.

Echoing many many others experience. I am usually really good at doing my research. I wish I read these first.
The men that came worked extremely hard in the midst of a heat wave. My frustration came when they charged us $450 for "packing". They asked me at booking if I needed packing material and I said no. But the first thing they did was assemble these huge boxes, great for holding odd shape things. But still, no mention of a charge for this until drop off day. They had my husband initial beside packed, but no dollar value was listed there.
I don't hold them responsible for my things weighing more than I was quoted, but I do hold them responsible for the hidden "packing" charges.

Do Not Use This Company..

The truck that came did not say Atlantic Van Lines, so they obviously farmed this assignment out. Long story short, I was vastly overcharged, but like others had no way to prove the weight indicated was way off. we had a one bedroom apartment with one extra bed and no appliances (they claimed the weight was 5,165 lbs) NO WAY!! Had to pay in full before they would unload the truck. After inspecting my things, everything that came in (on an unprotected dolly) was scratched and or gouged. Your comment on your site that says, "your trust is our top concern" should be removed, as it apparently isn't so. Not only do we feel that we were vastly overcharged, you further added to this insult by offering us $50.00 for numerous pieces of furniture damaged. I will research the internet and find every possible site to express our experience with your company.

Worst Moving Experience.

We moved from Saskatoon to Ottawa and the state that our belongings arrived in was simply offensive. Every single box was smashed in, chairs, tables, lamps, and paintings had not been properly wrapped and were destroyed. A few pieces of our furniture never even arrived, so who knows where on earth they ended up. We filed for insurance, and of the measly 400$ they approved, we only got 100$ as there is a 300$ deductible.
The sheer cost of the movers (all of the hidden fees), the condition of our belongings and the despicable remuneration made it the worst moving experience imaginable. Avoid this company like the plague.

Filed A Civil Suit Against Atlantic.

Hi all,

Atlantic Van Lines sent me a weight scale ticket from their scale at their warehouse in Ontario.

I was just wondering how many people have received a weight scale ticket from them, and if you could, would you send me a copy of it via email to manningc@hotmail.com, please and thanks as it will be used as evidence at court to prove that Atlantic falsifies the weight scale tickets, which is actually a criminal matter called fraud.

Thanks,

Charles.

Long-distance move from Vancouver, BC to Edmonton, AB

Read ALL the fine print!!

We have never moved to another province and we thought we had done an adequate job researching moving companies. The company we chose, Atlanntis Van Lines was one of several we had narrowed down our choice to. They all were quite similar at first glance but I had a long detailed phone conversation with the company's Senior CR Manager Vicky and apparently we were not on the same page because what she told me that day conflicted in many ways to the actual outcome. Because we seemed to have reached a mutual understanding during our phone conversation, when she emailed the contract I did not read all the fine print as I took her at her word. I will never make that mistake again.
I left the conversation assuming: 1) Our stuff would be picked up in the morning
2) Our stuff and my mother's(who was also moving out of her Vancouver apt and moving with us to a shared home in Edmonton) would be on a dedicated truck - I had asked Vicky this specific question.
3) Our truck would arrive on the 1st as I had told Vicky that my fiancee was flying out on the 31st so she could meet the movers.
4) That the cost of our move would not differ greatly from the original quote.
Well reality was far different in every aspect.
1) I was contacted very close to moving time and was shocked to find out the movers would not be picking up in the morning but the afternoon which did not work for us because my Mom had to be out of her place by noon with everything cleaned. I had to get them to pick her stuff up the day before and then they returned to our place on the 31st.
2) So sure our stuff was on a dedicated truck when picked up. What we weren't told is that it would be moved to a larger truck and "consolidated" and would not leave until the truck was full.
3) This led to us not getting our stuff until one week later so we had to find a place to stay for a week while we waited for our stuff
4) Last but definitely not least..we were hit with a final bill of $5150..oh and then hit with an additional 3% for paying by credit card for a total of $5310..our original quote was $1850..so that is 3x the original quote!!
I understood there could be a difference once weighed but 3x the price??
They obviously lowball their quotes to get business and then the actual is more in line where it should be.

**Buyer Beware**

Learn from our experience and do not ever use Atlanntis Van Lines.

Incorrect quote and price increase after deposit.

I got quote for my move from California, US to Toronto, Canada. The initial quote was provided based on lbs and I had submitted the list of items to ship. Later when I paid the deposit of CAD 200 I was told that quote had increased by 1000 CAD as the space required is more in the truck for items. For the dining + 4 chairs + 1 bench the weight was 325 lbs and after paying the deposit when I filled the exact items in the excel provided the weight was considered 500+ lbs. The trick is to provide lower quote and then increase the quote once you fill excel (which has fixed lb calculations irrespective of the weight if actual products.)

The initial list of items that I had provided had two beds, 2 mattresses and when I filled the excel I reduced the items to 1 bed , 1 mattress and added two small tables (IKEA ones which are very light in weight).

I preferred cancelling the trips. My 200 CAD dollars deposit was not returned. I took hit of CAD 200 and saved 1000+ on my move. Lessons leant here on dealing with agencies.

Avoid the company. Telephonic conversations are not taken inti account and executive decline the terms agreed on phone. Make sure everything is in email else you would pay way above the initial quote.

Long-distance move from Ottawa, ON to Edmonton, AB

Impressed with service.

After reading reviews of basically all moving companies I was concerned about choosing any one of them. However I did need to send some things which included a dirt bike, a bicycle and a family heirloom rocking chair, from Ottawa out to my son who lives in Edmonton. After using a broker who sent out information to moving companies to make a bid, I ended up choosing Atlantic Van Lines. The main reason was the price that they gave me but also the fact that they had looked up the size of motorcycle that I was sending. Noting that it was not particularly large, they quoted me $100 handling fee to move it whereas other companies were charging between $200-$400. The contact at Atlantic was called Jen. She provided fantastic service, responding immediately by email whenever I contacted her with a question. I was given a choice of 3 dates for pick up, they called the day prior to confirm date and time. They arrived on time, moved all the items that included several boxes that I had packed into the truck and they had wrapped up the chair well to protect it. I was notified of the final weight and cost but already had an accurate estimate. The company also sends out an Excel sheet that calculates weight of items so that customers can keep track of what their shipment is likely to weigh, so there were no surprises. A truck was being deployed to their warehouse in Calgary the following week and did leave within the estimated time frame. We were notified of the anticipated delivery period, sometime between October 31 and November 5; then we were called November 2 to arrange the e-transfer payment and the delivery for November 3. The truck arrived with the given time period given and unloaded. Other than a couple of small scratches on the bicycle, everything arrived in perfect shape. We were so pleased with the whole experience. Having read so many terrible reviews I felt it was only right to post a positive review because they really did a great job.

Long-distance move from Manitoba to Ontario

Moving.

We moved from Manitoba to Ontario and the quote was reasonable, they came prepared on time and accommodating.
On delivery they came unprepared, they were unprofessional, they disobeyed posted signs in my storage unit location and broke solar panels with their truck. They tossed my property into my unit breaking losing pieces and with no regard to my property.
And finally the cost was twice what they initially quoted.

Long-distance move from Quebec to Manitoba

Moving experience.

Please don't use that company !! my furniture came broken even if they did the packaging and the wrapping !! worst worst customer service I have had in my life !! they are very rude from the driver to their manager !! they are big big liars !! and finally their manager instead of apologizing at least she is telling me she can't do anything because she knows where I come from !!

Hi Anita,

I believe that insurance issue is in case the driver did an accident or sth unexpected happened.

But in my case, it was the unprofessional work from your compagny( employees) that damage and broke my furnitures.

I have paid 2000$ for a service that I didn’t receive it. You didn’t wrap well the furniture as it should be done and your driver said that, you driver didn’t enter the stuffs inside house. He pushed us to pay before getting our stuffs, otherwise not loading , refused to give a packing list. He was very agressive with abnormal attitude and insulting us. He was even about touching me and push me away. I had to deal with that, live this frustration and call the police. But, your driver ran away.

I think it is unacceptable to deal with customers in that way.

Since, I have paid for service that I didn’t receive it. I am asking for at least to be refunded or send somebody to fix the furnitures. That s not an insurance issue. That is mostly a compagny liability. I feel myself dealing with professional frauder and I hope it is not the case.

Hi Therese,

Thank you for your response to the claim and your feedback.
I understand where you are coming from and I understand your response. However, the coverage that you had with the move, we confirm with you in 3 ways:

1. Email quote which confirms coverage
2. Email confirmation which confirms coverage and offers the option to purchase extra
3. Moving contract where the coverage is offered

All of these options were declined unfortunately. (which is not true )

Without proper coverage there is only so much that we can do.
All moving companies in North America offer the same coverage to all long distance moving companies, and we are no different. Unless the customer declares a value or purchases coverage through a third party, our coverage is very limited.
