Bait and Switch - Overcharging & Aggressive Handling.

Company Info:
State to State Logistics
6912 Owensmouth Ave. Suite # 202
Canoga Park, CA 91303
DOT# 3168977
MC # 116720

I spoke with sales representative, Tom Parker, at State to State Logistics more than 5 weeks before our scheduled move. While selling the services of his company, Mr. Parker calculated an estimate for me based on cubic footage. He told me that it would cost $4.76 per cubic foot to transport our belongings to our final destination. He NEVER told me that the final cost would actually be based on weight, nor did the issue of weight even come up during our conversations. The written estimate shows both a cubit foot estimate as well as average weight, but since he emphasized cubit feet and this was the first time I'd used a moving service, I didn't catch the potential for issue. Throughout the packing process I was paying careful attention to cubic footage and had an accurate measurement given most of or belongings were boxed. We measured our belongings to be 538 cubic feet.

On the day of pick-up, the movers rushed me through the paperwork (which was almost unlegible). They were in a rush.. toward the end they became very aggressive in the handling of boxes which resulted in some falling to the ground. (Later in the day we also found out that they had accidentally loaded two chairs from the apartment lobby that belonged to the apartment and not us.) Then AFTER all of our belongings were on the truck they told me that the weight was 7000lbs, almost double of what the estimate showed (they calculate average weight to be 7 lbs per cubic foot) so their final bill ended up being $4,740.57. If truly based on cubic feet, the charge should have been $2,560.88 plus a 9% fuel charge of $230.01 for a total of $2790.89. I immediately began calling Tom Parker, the sales representative but he was never available, nor did he call me back.

Me being sleep deprived and the movers being in a rush, I with great regret, signed the paperwork they put before me. I did ask to make a notation on their paperwork about the price/estimate discrepancy but the man in charge, David, would not allow me to. Instead he gave me a form to fill out with the company name on it that said, "Referral Letter," and said he would give it to his supervisor. I was never shown anything that proved our cargo was 7000 lbs, nor was it noted on the "Summary of Charges" section of the "Bill of Lading."

I called the company a total of 17 times the day of pick-up. I was never connected with Tom Parker or anyone that could help me. All I could do was leave a message. In one message I even asked them to turn the truck around and return my belongings. I emailed Tom Parker with no response. In yet another call to the company I asked for a manager and was given the name of Robert Weiss. The receptionist said he was not in but could leave a message for him to call me. He never called. I also emailed him and forwarded my previous email to Tom Parker about the dispute. There still has been no communication from State to State Logistics after a total of 19 phone calls and 3 emails.
Our belongings have not yet been delivered. The company requests the final payment to be in cash, which should raise eyebrows. But we are at their mercy now that they are in possession of our belongings.

BEWARE of this company! The shady business practices and poor customer service is outrageous; I feel taken advantage of and helpless. I will be filing a complaint with FMCSA ( Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the DOT and the Better Business Bureau.

Very professional and on time.

First time using moving with a professional moving service (going from CA to VA). We initially underestimated how much we had, but they were able to accommodate us no problem. On the day of the move they showed up right on time and got all our stuff in under 2 hours. When we got to VA we were able to contact our driver and find out our stuff would arrive only a few days after we did. Very professional staff packed and unpacked everything and set up our furniture no hassle. Would totally recommend to a friend.

Worst Moving Company EVER.

I wanted to update my review and let you know that this company reached out to me for my poor review and then did nothing and did not follow through to fix any of their mistakes. I DO NOT trust this company.I moved from CA to Washington DC, they arrived late, they broke multiple items, damaged my bed frame. The customer service is rude, in fact when they showed up late they yelled at me. It is ridiculous. The worst part is there ARE hidden FEES, they last minute told us they coudlnt bring the truck into DC we had to rent a uhal and get all of our stuff out of their truck on the side of the road in Maryland. I thought it was a joke, but it wasn't this company is absolutely terrible.

PLEASE Don't Do It!!

I spoke and emailed with Tom Parker, Senior Moving Coordinator, on several occasions PRIOR to signing the contract with State to State Logistics and he was always nice and customer focused. Once the contract was signed, I called and emailed him several times to check on the status of my delivery and he replied ZERO times. Once I got my delivery, 8 days later, I realized that one of my plastic containers was missing (the other one had glass dishes, which I told the drivers at the time of pickup, but they stacked stuff on top anyway and broke a few bowls (see attached pic). The containers were brand new). I've called several times to speak with ANYBODY, but no one pics up, nor do they return my phone calls. I've called the dispatch person, Dianna, and the driver and no one wants to help locate my clothes. I have ALL of my coats in the container and it is now raining! Stores are closed and my only alternative is to buy ANOTHER ONE online. Unfortunately, I had so much going on for this 1,100 mile move that I overlooked checking past reviews, but I wish I had. These reviewers are not lying!!

Horrible movers do NOT use.

My quote was DOUBLED after I was at their mercy -they have this trick they use - they take all your belongings outside and while it’s all sitting outside on the street they tell you it’s TWICE AS MUCH to the tune of $4000. But that is not the worst of it. I was promised a delivery day of July 1. That didn’t happen.. when my things finally arrived all of my boxes were CRUSHED. It was as if they threw them against a wall and then ran them over with a truck. They were destroyed! All my lamps were broken. Dishes broken. When we finally got thru the unpacking process we realized we didn’t even get all of our boxes. So many things didn’t make it to the house. Oh and did I forget to mention I was promised 4 workers to unload the truck and I got TWO. It took the entire day. Icing on the cake?? The driver yelled and screamed at me over and over and said “why do I have to talk to a woman” and then he slept in the truck all day and did not move ONE THING. Please people. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Worst experience of my life. And all for the exceedingly high price of $4000. The owner told me he owns five houses. So I’m assuming that is where all of my money went. Not even one star. Negative 100 stars.

Such a fraudulent company!!

Let me just begin by saying if you want to hire a company that overpays, looses half of your belongings and has rude employees this is your company! I have So many negative things to say about this fraudulent company! First off what they quoted us over the phone vs what it was, was a 1000$ difference! And took almost 2 months to get our things as well as loosing our motorcycle in the process! We had to file a police report and everything! Our stuff was damaged and we finally got the motorcycle after I had enough and harassed them! Stay far away from this company! Your better off selling your stuff and starting over or driving yourself making sure everything gets to you! If I could rate this company a -5 I would! One star is pushing it!

Doubled Price and took forever- GO ELSEWHERE.

I gave an itemized list plus sent pictures but when the guys showed up in ended up being double my original bid. And I felt like I was really up front in what I was shipping. I even sent the an email when I added a couple of boxes. At that point it was too late to start over although I should have. I was having items shipped from CA to Idaho and they milked it to the very end. They arrived at 4pm on the last day of the contract period before they were in default. I waited weeks.

Several items were damaged (broken table that they had packed) and our bikes were really scratched up. My patio furniture had tape on it (them again) so when I unpacked it the finish was pulled off.

And best of all I ended up with somebody else's artwork. I sent them an email with pictures telling them so but of course they never got back to me. Guess they figure the other person will just file a claim or something. Artwork photo attached (if it is yours).

Horrible Moving Company.

Horrible moving company, would rate zero if I could. Boxes came crushed with over 5k in broken or damaged furniture. Called multiple times and they don’t care about anything. Stay away. Used Sawgrass for moving my whole house who brokered them and now I have to refurbish a whole house again, stuff wasn’t even a year old. Will be seeking legal actions if items are not replaced. Mover beware, DO Not hire this company

This company will rip you off, they hold your belongings for ransom, damage every thing you own and then won't give you enough to take the damaged stuff to the dump and a $2,300 move of 400 miles ended up costing $5,500 and the total cost with damage and missing property was over $20,000, my dumping costs were much higher than their offer,

and the arbitration company doesn't even want to deal with this company.

I would not give them any stars but you have to at least mark 1 star. This companies settlement offer would not have been enough money to cover the amount of time it took to do the claim forms and the 148 photos of damage. what they offered is nothing more than an insult and they can stick it where the sun does not shine. If you get a call from cross country moving group or state to state logistics do your self a favor and just hang up.

Nightmare Move From CA To OK!

Our experience with this company was a nightmare. They misled us about the price, their capabilities, reliability, drivers, equipment, staff, customer service and more. They didn’t show up when promised. And when they did show up, they demanded more money for less items, damaged our home and furniture, wardrobe boxes and other boxes. They didn’t deliver when promised. And when they did deliver they showed up with a one man crew, didn’t reassemble any of the furniture, delivered damaged boxes, broke/scratched furniture and left boxes outside on the driveway.

We contacted them. They apologized and blamed it all on the driver who they claimed they fired after our job. We were told to file a claim for reimbursement. We did. Received a low settlement offer which we rejected. We were told to file for arbitration. They just keep having us contact other companies to settle the claim. They are rude and incredibly unprofessional on the phone. They are scam artists at best and they couldn’t care less about providing truthful, supportive customer service. Do not, I repeat, do not hire this company for any move. You will regret it.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPNY

This company is classic scam outfit. Smooth professional sales person sold us on using them but our initial price of $2700 ended up being over $10,500.00. Customer service not part of the operation, staff are rude and unprofessional. Requests to speak with owners not allowed. Furniture was "interlined" without telling us and they want all payments except the initial deposit in cash or payable to cash. Much of our possessions were damaged or destroyed during the move. Pick up and delivery times are not as promised, and most of the workers we saw did not speak English as a primary language. They load your stuff and then tell you estimate was wrong and the new cost much higher. This happens on moving day, so rejecting their price is not an option for people like myself who are selling a home and moving across country. Once the furniture is on the truck at 7:30 at night what are you to do? The same with delivery, they will not open the truck until final payment is made in cash or bank check payable to cash. No receipts are provided and they did not compare inventory to what is on the truck. We do not yet know if we got all of our stuff, but do know that out of 237 items moved at least half of the boxes and furniture was seriously damaged. They insist you sign that items were delivered. I crossed out in good condition, but don't know if that will have any effect. Do not be foolish like me, do not use this company, you would be better off donating your stuff to charity!

Moved October 2020 delivery was January 2021. It was not delivered until February 19, 2021. In a rental truck Enterprise by another company. They kept apologizing saying they did not do the damage. They only requested $1500 it was supposed to be a balance of $2500. I was truly confused started to refuse the delivery the owner called me and said I have the 1500. I excepted it after they started unloading I noticed everything was taped up and wrapped up in blankets because of damage. Half of my items are missing what they delivered was almost totally unusable. The owner told me that there was an accident and I would be hearing from an insurance company. It is now April 11 I have never heard from insurance company. The owner has stopped answering my calls and returning my voicemail. He told me to text Tim receipts of what I have bought and they would submit a check to me. He told me the check was in the mail several weeks ago for what I had sent. That has never happened now he has stopped answering any of my calls. Half my items are missing the rest are damaged. And I have other peoples items. Part of an exercise piece of equipment and a box Framed pictures feel free to contact me if they are yours.

Moving mayhem

Our move from Idaho to Oregon was only 505 miles. We were eagerly looking forward to the move to be reunited w/our daughter. This move was anything but pleasant. All we had to move & load was my husband’s tools, a few bikes, kitchen & bath essentials & clothes. We had to vacate our house on the day of moving. They got there late, probably 9:00a.m.or 10:00 & were still loading by 9:00 p.m. The leader of the group took us aside & wanted us to sign a disclosure for $22K. I believe it was $9K. My husband had to sign under protest. We were stuck between a rock & a hard place. This was highway robbery! But what could do? My husband’s prized one-of-kind motorcycle was NOT crated after they agreed to do it on the phone. This bike was only made for 1 year so it’s impossible to replace missing or broken parts. It ended up w/broken windshield, broken turn signals & broken right side plastic. He had previously told them not to stack anything on the bike, AND THEY DID! We documented 74 pictures of broken items, broken glass collectibles, family heirlooms household mirrors & lamps. Not only was the move a disaster, there were items missing: 6 ft ladder, all screws for our table saw, pressure washer hose & nozzle, table saw belt, 100 ft bulk power cord & skill saw wormdrive 71/4” To us you have to agree this is unprofessional conduct & care going in to move another family’s possessions. I can’t tell you how many crushed boxes we witnessed. We also saw 2 of your movers going at it (arguing & fighting) This was awful to witness—very unprofessional. The claims office(where you are supposed to send in your claim) sent us a letter saying they are no longer contracted w/this company. We have been trying to contact the moving company since April 1st. Now what do we do??!

Dealing with Them Made me Physically Ill from Anxiety.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. These folks are unprofessional and criminal. They started out by showing up an hour late and running over garden lights. They then loaded the truck and told us it was 900 pounds over the original estimate. They told us it would be $1200 more. When my wife asked how they determined the difference in weight, they claimed the truck had a built-in scale. I unfortunately was at work on the other side of the country and could not help her with the situation.

They then gave us a new contract, even though the original had said it was binding. The contract did not list the condition of any of inventory, nor was it accurate. They just listed it as 30 plastic bins (which, it was mostly those and boxes). The driver told me wife we could expect delivery in a couple of weeks.

A couple of weeks later and I had not heard from them, so I called and found out the stuff was still in their warehouse in Los Angeles. They said it would be picked up within the week and then would be on its way. Another lie, as I called a week later and it still wasn't on a truck. I again was told it'd be picked up and then heading my way.

That pick up was also untrue. Finally I got word that someone was on their way. I pointed out that I was going to be out of town for a week to visit my folks over spring break. They said it was fine and they could have delivery occur the day I got back. I then got a call that Wednesday that the driver would be at my place on Thursday afternoon. I explained I was out of town and it would be a 12 hours drive for me to get there.

They told me I would have to pay hundreds of dollars a day to delay the delivery. I talked with them and they agreed to deliver it straight to a storage unit. They said I would have to wire the money to get the info about the storage unit. I wired the money and asked for the info on the unit. Three days later I learned from the driver that he had not left it in a storage unit and could drop it off the day I got back into town.

The driver was nice enough. Not totally professional, but I didn't feel like he was part of the scam. In fact, I found out that he was actually contracted for the work and didn't work directly for State to State. There was a poster missing and some plastic containers were damaged, but I did not pursue any damages. They had given me the info for their claims and all I could find about them on the internet was that they were also a scam.

The only positive was when State to State took $200 off the $2400 total (which was a $1200 binding estimate originally) for taking more than 21 business days to deliver.

The Worst Movers Ever.

I never leave reviews, but if I could give negative stars, I would give negative 5. Adam was the most uncommunicative, horrible mover I could possibly imagine. I only moved a bed, a nightstand, 1 bookshelf, and a dresser, and him and the other man helping him move my belongings managed to break 2 of those 5 things. The mirror on my dresser was completely shattered and my night stand was cracked. He barely acknowledged this incompetence, and was like I'll not charge you for the extra stairs (this is San Francisco, everywhere apartment stairs). He also was arguing and being really condescending and bossy to the other person helping him move, which made me feel really uncomfortable. He offered to repair my nightstand and gave me $100 off for the shattered mirror (it's going to take more $ than that to repair), so I didn't make a fuss of things at first. He then proceeded to ignore my calls and texts and make me chase him for a month. I sent so many texts to him and called him so many times, all I wanted was for him to provide a timeframe and give me a date when it could be dropped off (like he said he would). I moved November 4, and I only got my side table back today (12/13/19). He left me without answers for a month. Finally, one of the countless times I called and texted him with no reply, he told me, "I left the night stand with your neighbor." He didn't even bother to contact me to let me know he'd done that (after explicitly saying him or someone else would drop it off), and after he was at fault for breaking my possessions, when movers are trusted to get your belongings from one place to another without damage. My "repaired" night stand has an ugly crack now and multiple chips on the sides that were not there before, I am furious. Again, I never leave reviews, if you read this DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY OR ADAM, he is unprofessional, will not call or text you back, and does not know how to do this job.

I stupidly didn't read the BBB reviews, but do your research unlike me. There are a lot of complaints there that are so accurate and similar to my experience.

Long-distance move from California to Florida

All seemed great until..

Everything started off good. Good price, easy arrangements, etc. Company said they delivery to my area regularly. Then things started to take a turn during the pick up. When I arranged the pick up from my home in California, I had a 5x5 storage unit that was 60% used. During the pick-up, I added about 10 small / medium home depot boxes which should have evened out my usage and kept my price. Low and behold, the driver added $300 onto my cost saying a was way over my allotted space and I was not allowed into the truck to verify. I gave a delivery window for my stuff as I was driving across country and would not be home in Florida. The company tried to deliver too soon while I was not yet, home. Even though the contract stated not to deliver prior to a certain date. Then, after the date, the company went quiet. I called and no response. I had to fly back to CA for 4 days and while I was in CA, they finally called and said we will be delivering "tomorrow". I asked them to arrange delivery for the following Monday and they said okay, we call you then. Monday came and no response. Then Tuesday, no response. Then I called the company and no answer. Left a message and no call back. Called the driver and he finally responded with, call the company in CA. Come to find out that the driver and State to State are not the same company. Today, I called and got someone on the phone and they want to charge me a $300 re-delivery fee! What started out as a $1200 moving price is now 1800+. The person on the phone I spoke with today sounded like she could care less. I do NOT recommend this company. Regardless of who you go with, I suggest a POD of some sort that has storage without an additional delivery fee outside of your quote. That way, you know exactly what's in the POD and what is not and what your cost is without any surprises. I would also like to mention that when I booked, I was informed that I could pay with a Credit and/or Debit card. During the pick up, I was told Cash / Money Order only.

Criminal Thieves.

State to State Logistics is running a scam. They provide quotes with the intention to double the quoted price. My items were professionally weighed and measured by an outside company at 2800 lbs and 400 cubic sq. ft. , the data my fee was based on. After the driver picked up my items from a secure storage facility in LA, he called and told me that the weigh and size was double. I was told that I needed to send and additional $1500 on a $1300 binding quote or I could pick up my stuff at a Home Depot where they would drop it. Under the circumstances, I complied, fearful of the threat. Several days later, I was surprised that the delivery took place. I had to pay another $600 upon delivery, without seeing my items. Yes, the size and the weight were exactly as I'd quoted them. The company is in the business of torture and thievery. One of the delivery guys said, "You aren't the first and you won't be the last". I am reporting to the CA Attorney General.

The WORST moving company ever.

First, I'd like to start by saying that if I could rate a negative 5 stars, I would. Actually, scratch that, I would rate them a negative 10 stars.

I originally wrote basically an entire essay on how TERRIBLE this whole experience has been, but decided that just saying STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVING COMPANY AT ALL COST.

It is ridiculous how unprofessional, untimely, unorganized, and irresponsible this moving company is.

The lack of communication and care that these people had was by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever encountered. I have moved A LOT of times, but I have to say that this has been hands down the worst experience I've ever had.

Also, I specifically requested for weight tickets COUNTLESS times so that I could be reimbursed by the military, but of course they forgot that as well so now I've essentially thrown $1700 out the window.

I was told items went to NY, then I guess back to CA. Then to Miami FL. At the bringing is January the driver I had been told to call stated that the items he had were not my items. He got another driver to confirm this. State to State will not talk to me. They constantly hang up on me. I have contacted an attorney and they sent a letter to the company with no result. Terrible _ DO NOT USE THEM.

The sales rep negotiated a rate and then the guy who came to pick up my things basically doubled the rate. The binding estimate required a 50% deposit. The guy, Mario, who came to get my furniture demanded 60%. Then, they broke a lamp before they even got downstairs and didn't have the decency to clean up the broken glass. They were supposed to deliver on the 13th but the driver (from a completely different company) said he was coming a week early even though I would not be in my house yet. He said I had to pay for storage, even though the binding estimate said 30days were included and he demanded to be paid IN CASH before I could even see that my items were complete and not damaged. When I balked, they stopped talking to me and I have no idea where my belongings are. The driver said his boss said not to talk or text with me so I have no idea if I will ever get my furniture and personal photos etc. back.

Long-distance move from Phoenix, AZ to Beckley, WV

Worst Movers Ive Ever Encountered.

WORST move ever , if I ha paid a low budget move I could get it but this move was over 8k , I packed all the boxes myself and made sure all items that fragile were marked that way in big bold letters , day of move the contract estimate doubled after being loaded , in theory my household goods size should have doubled then but it did not ,the size increased but it sure as hell didn't double , upon arrival of my stuff in West Va the boxes marked fragile had been put on the bottom with heavy stuff on top , they looked like they had been pushed off and ran over .Needles to say lots of stuff broken , several items didn't make it at all , no clue where they went . E mailed and left voice mails with zero responses . DO NOT USE THESE FolkS if you want to receive your stuff in any form of being usable and intact . IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WUOUD HAVE BETTER YER NEGATIVE STARS.
