Long-distance move from Washington to California

Poor Handling.

Careless handling of furniture. Did not use furniture pads provided and put furniture directly onto handtruck causing scarring of furniture. They did not treat my things with the same care they would if these were their goods. Two boxes were missing after unloading. I would not use them again or reccomend them to anyone. They use Labor ready for their work crew. On the front end one was very helpful and careful. The other fellow was a slacker. The one made up for the lack of work ethic of the other. On the back end they worked at a steady pace but were careless.

Helpers.

Our experience with the Helpers was fantastic - we just can't rave enough about them! Some (Mike & Robert) even claimed to have professional mover's experience, and it showed! Duane was not only prompt but early, and Bill & Eric were also great. We would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to go this route. We would definitely use them again ourselves, though we don't plan on moving again anytime soon!

Long-distance move from Louisiana to Texas

Efficient Operation.

Our experience with SML was excellent. We used them for loading the truck only..the unloading was handled by others on the delivery end. The move was a 3 bedroom home from Louisiana to Texas over a weekend. The two SML helpers arrived a little before the scheduled 9am although they had a 9am to 10am window.  They dug right in and I had to tell them to take breaks over the 2 hours it took to load the truck. Good job!

Unloading of household items.

The unloading of our furniture and items was a diaster.  The fault lies with SML who did not employ individuals capable of unloading furniture and other items.  Two nice individuals were sent who tried their best, but they were in no way up to the task.  If my husband, son and I did not jump in and do half or more of the work the move would never have been complete.  I have tried to talk with a cusomter claim representative three times without success.  I have left messages and no one has gotten back to me.  The day of the move, they were unable to sent other helpers.  With any move there is tons to do and this was suppose to make it easier.  Instead my back still hurts.  No one who can handle my concern has called and my charge card has been billed.  The two individuals I did talk with were simpathetic, but could do nothing.  My concern was initially shared with them on July 24th and again on July 29th.  I heard nothing and was billed on August 2nd.  I tried to call now and left a message.  Called again and waited to get a live person who told me they were aware of my concern and I would be called back when they knew what "angle" they were going to take on this.  SML should have sufficient labor pools to help with moves and if not advise the client they cannot handle the business.

SML representative and truck loaders.

I had to get assistance for loading our moving truck and lifting heavy items. The pro movers did a great job and after 5 hours they had most of my stuff loaded so we let them go to avoid any further cost. We had hoped they could have loaded things faster. But they were very professional and courteous. The SML representative that sent me the contract and notified me of my options was also super helpful and very fast with all responses. I will do business with them again and would recommend them to friends.

Long-distance move from Florida to New Jersey

Unloading Only.

I used them for unloading only. The movers were fast. They showed up on time to the minute. They finished in under 3 hours, saving us time and money. It was a good experience. The only negative is that you have to pay them for a minimum of 3 hours, even if the job is not going to take that long. I did not have a problem with that since it was clearly explained to me upfront and seems to be common industry policy. I rented a 26" truck from Penske in Naples, FL. I had movers there to load the truck. I drove the truck to New Jersey and had them unload it into a storage unit. They did a great job fitting all of my items into the unit without breaking anything. .

Movers to unload trailer into storage.

We used SML movers to unload our trailer into our storage unit. The guys were so nice and worked non-stop till the job was done. They only took an hour and even offered to help load things into our minivan that we were taking with us. They were fast, efficient, and very pleasant as well as professional. Great guys! Will definitely recommend SML. It would be nice if you could get a little refund if it takes a lot less time than expected. We overestimated, they were done in an hour. That's the only drawback. But thanks guys..good work!

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to North Carolina

Lacked concern for my property.

I contracted for 2 helpers from SML to unload a 16 ft truck.  The helpers arrived on time, were polite and worked continuously.  The load of household goods in boxes occupied approximately half of the truck.  There was also a secretary in 2 pieces which was the primary reason I needed SML.  I could not move these peices alone.  The entire truck was unloaded and items carried to various rooms in my house in under 45 minutes. The helpers were dirty, I assume from a previous job and rubbed against the walls of the stairwell multiple times leaving dark smudge marks on the walls.  The stairwell is not narrow and the boxes  were ot that heavy.  I had carried all of these boxes down multiple stairwells on the loading end without any touching of walls.  The move of the secreatary resulted in a small gouge on the ceiling going up the steps and a chunk knocked off of the trim ot the upstairs landing.  I was fortunate to have stopped the glass doors on the secretary from crashing into that same corner when  they were turning the corner without regard to the spatial relationship or clearance to make the turn.

Lacking in knowledge and tools to move appliances.

I hired what I thought was professional movers to move my appliances into a storage room that I own downstairs from the condo I moved out of. The guys were very nice and polite and I liked them. I did feel that they did not come prepared for the job at hand and that they did not possess the knowledge I expected to do the job. They took longer and I paid by the hour than It should have took only because they needed to prob have more knowledge of moving high end appliances. They did not even have straps which I feel is why my refrigerator was damage but they also just didn't know how to take apart the fridge like they prob should have.   I have filed for insurance with them to fix it and would have to write another review on how that goes because I have not yet heard from them , this is almost a week so far. the stainless was badly scratched and the handle broken when the fridge slipped from them down the steps a bit.But this is why I hired a company with pros and insurance. If they take care of it I will be satisfied. I do feel that knowing this was a big heavy appliances job would have made them be sure these guys had the equipment they needed. They needed some of my tools and help. The damage could have been minimized or not happend in my opinion if they knew better how to handle the job. I got muscle but not knowledge.  Now I hope that they fix my damaged frige and make me a happy customer because I feel I paid alot for this job. The guys were hard workers but I just expected them to be more knowledeable about moving appliances. I was impressed with the installers that brought them in and thought I would get something similar. so I give them an average rating until I see how they handle my damage. .

Great packers! Very professional!

I used Simple Moving Labor to load the contents of two huge, stuffed storage lockers onto a 26 foot truck, in preparation for a move from Maryland to California. Tom, Sean, and Daniel were true professionals! They worked very hard, and managed to pack the two lockers so well that I was able to drive the truck to the house and add the contents of part of the basement. This after I had estimated that the 20x10 and 10x10 lockers would take up the entire truck. They worked for 5 hours without taking a break, and secured the contents well, so nothing shifted during the trip. The previous company that I hired took 10 hours to move the contents of only the 20x10 locker across the street. Simple Moving Labor did not drive the truck across the country for me, but I would not have hesitated to hire them to do so. I would definitely use Simple Moving Labor again, and would ask for the same crew! .

Make sure you get what you pay for.

Over the phone was persuaded to get the higher (professional) package which included furniture tools and cart for moving big items (which we needed as we needed a bed to take apart and large heavy boxes)
The movers showed up with absolutely no tools, we had to ask friends for a screwdriver and had to help move heavy boxes ourself. The movers stacked items high on back walls after we asked them not to which ended up falling in the move. When we reported our problems we simply requested a return that provided the return of the difference between the higher and lower package. They were unwilling to do so.

SML 2 man ProMover crew.

I hired professional movers to load a rental truck. They came with the equipment I expected. I was told that some of the things I wanted moved (glass table top, glass shelves, porcelin lamp and shade) should be taken by me in my car. The movers explained that they couldn't be sure these items would get to my destination without breaking. They did not offer to help me wrap these items.  I had a large piece of furniture with glass doors and was told that the doors would likely break on the move. They wrapped the furniture in a quilt but never put any other protection on the glass like cardboard as I had seen another mover do.  I had pillows that could have been put inside to help protect the glass. Many of the things that were put into the truck were not covered at all even though I had prepared them with several blankets and quilts. The job was done in an hour (I paid for up to 3 hours).  The movers were friendly and courteous. They arrived on time and went right to work. Fortunately, a friend was driving the truck and after being told to avoid any sudden turns or bumps, he made it to our desitination without anything breaking. .

Austin.

I used professional movers in Knoxville and they were great and the labor in Austin was terrible! their average is 50% and that is failing. I would not recommend them even if Knoxville did a good job. And finally, this site will not allow me to submit my comments unless I have 350 characters and I didn't want to use profane language, so I left it short. If this is not enough characters this time, I will toss all of it and miss the opportunity to tell everyone I know and those that I do not know, just how little I think of their labor. Loading was worth the cost, unloading killed the whole experience. If I had wanted to unload the truck, I would not have hored them. .

Move.

The movers arrived on time. They were professional, clean, and dependable. They worked hard to stay in the time frame allotted, and they took care of my possessions. The online service was straightforward, without hassle, and courteous. Whether it was the "move out" crew or the "move in" crew, I felt comfortable with their being in my home. Their demeanor was always professional and work centered. After they were finished at either place, all I had to do was sign their form, and they left. They did handle my property carefully and did not break anything. I recommend them to anyone because if I move again - I will use them again.

SML moving loaders.

The movers (3) were on time at the pickup site and did not require any moving equioment since they were young and strong. The moving went very well except our truck couldn't hold everything I we were forced to leave some items with friends. With the amount to move the movers went 1 1/2 hours over.

Foe the unloading everything went well and on-time. No issues except we were charged 30 minutes over our scheduled window which we don't agree with sicne there also wass a 20 minute delay due to severe thunderstorms. Otherwise no complaints.

Professional movers vs Helpers.

I used Simple Moving Labor just to load my truck to move from SC to TX.  I paid for 2 professional movers with tools and dolly.  When the movers arrived and started moving my washer, I asked him where his dolly was.  His response was that he didn't have or need one.  I spoke with the other mover and asked him if they both were "professional movers" and he told me that he was a helper and the other man was a professional mover.  I called the company to find out why I hadn't gotten what I ordered.  While I was on hold with the company, the operator in turn called the professional mover at my house who flat out lied and said he did have tools and a dolly and that both of them were professional movers.  The operator then came back on the phone and told me that I did have "professional movers" and that they did have tools and a dolly.  I argued back and forth and then gave up.  No dolly was ever on scene, and the tools these "professional movers" used were mine.  I paid for "professional movers" so I wouldn't have to babysit the loading, but unfortunately that's exactly what I did.  And to be lied to by both the operator on the phone and the movers was unacceptable.  I should have been refunded the difference between the cost of "professional movers" and "helpers".  The professional movers were $394.00 and the helpers were $219.00.  That is a big difference and I would NEVER recommend Simple Moving Labor to anyone!

Canceled on me.

I paid a $90 deposit and had a signed contract with SML. Six weeks later they called to say they JUST realized that they will be closed the day they were to provide movers, and they canceled on me. Obviously they are a very poorly run company. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! We had a signed contract. They did not honor this contract. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint.

SML labor.

We hired 2 guys to help load up furniture and boxes from a rental unit in Lexington, SC then hired another 2 guys in Blacklick, Oh to unload.  Both groups were early which means we started work on time.  The appearance of a couple guys was on the interesting side, but all things else were handled professionally.  There are 2 options with the movers.  You can hire licensed professionals or you can hire strictly labor.  We just wanted the labor since we knew how to load a truck.  Both sets of guys were prompt, careful, and thorough.  They even helped with some of the extras, like unwrapping the syran wrap from furniture, helped unscrew/screw a banister on stairway to get large chair through, didn't complain, and very polite.  Our experience was very good for what we were charged.  I would definitely use them again.  Hopefully these reviews will help SML weed out those who are not as professional as others.

Packing of house.

Several damaged items due to packing. Too much weight on a dresser- now it is buckled in the middle and the drawers do not meet squarely. There is a strap gouge on a coffee table. A lamp clobe was broken- this may have been due to shifting but is was just sort of stuffed in at the last minute because it was overlooked when packing that room. There were items left upstairs and they had almost left before I had a chance to go trhouh the house to check. I think that may be why the back of the truck looked like  a kid had packed it.

Showed and completed in timely manner.

My father and I had to hire helpers with our move. My father directed and organized everything inside of the truck while the men loaded the truck with my directions inside of the home. They were well-mannered, quick, and completed the job within the 2-hour minimum to fill a 16 ft truck. They also were able to move a futon bed and other items out of the home to be sent to the dumpster by another helper outside of SML without any hestitation or problem, still completed in 2 hours. My father raved they were excellent on everything!

Unload a 16' truck.

We used Simple Moving Labor to unload the truck at our new location.  The movers were early and started promply.  They were very curteous and followed all of our directions and requests.  They worked in a very timey fashion and were very careful with all of our items.  They unload the 16' truck in under the 2 hour minimum in fact it took them only one hour and 15 minutes.  We were very pleased with whole experience from the initial phone call to the completion of the unload.

Transfer shipment.

All three of the movers with Simple Mover Labor were courteous and on time. They worked together well and unloaded a 26' box truck (which was broken down) and transferred our shipment to a 24' and a 16' Penske Trucks. They stopped for breaks but didn't count this as their three hour time limit. They also helped us hook up our car carrier and load our car on the carrier. We appreciated their hard work and time consciousness.

Using SML for my move.

My move went as planned and on time.  The two professional movers showed up on time and started to place boxes in the truck.  Unfortunately, the moving truck had a leak in the box section on load day in a heavy rain which required repair and delayed the move 2 hours.  However, the movers remained in the area and were in constant contact with us.  They were ready to restart loading when the truck came back.  That was above and beyond my expectations. The items were placed very efficiently into the truck with care.  Given the number of items, the loading took a reasonable amount of time.  At the unload site, the 2 non-professional movers unloaded the truck in the time frame of the contract.  They arrived on time, and worked hard to complete their task and did so in a friendly and courteous way.  Overall, considering the distance involved and the complexity of the move, it could not have worked out better.  Very happy with the experience.

Packing up.

I was moving from Knoxville to San Diego and we rented a Penske 26 foot truck to drive cross county. I hired the Professional movers because I wanted it do correctly because it was not done correctly when I moved from San Diego to Knoxville eight years ago. The Pro movers were fantastic. They were courteous, polite, and wanted to know if we wanted them do the big moving items for the 3 hours to save us money. We had them work for 4 hours. When we go to San Diego, most of the boxes I put in the truck did not fair very well but the items they loaded we packed tight and correctly. Not one item they packed was damaged. It will cost some money for them to do it all but one expense item getting damaged would more than cover the cost of having the movers do the whole loading.

Professional or Bust. Literally.

My parents just moved to Dallas from St. Louis. They hired 2 teams from SML: one "professional" team to pack the house and load the items in STL, and one regular team to unload the truck into a garage. My mom didn't see it necessary to spend the extra bucks for a professional team to literally do nothing but unload a truck. This team, however, was completely incompetent and negligent. Hutches and large furniture items were dragged across the concrete, scraping and damaging them; they tossed smaller furniture items causing drawers to fly out and shatter; they somehow managed to break a recliner COMPLETELY in HALF; and they moved like sloths (trying for additional hours?..). There is no excuse for this negligence and the company refuses to own to its mistakes.
