Simple Moving Labor

I was told that 2 professional movers would be at my house between 9am and 10am. They arrived at 1045am. When they arrived at my home, one of the "professionals" was on his cell phone until he was told to put it away. I had a 26 foot truck that needed to be unloaded. There were only 15 pieces that I asked to be brought in the house and positioned. Other than that my truck was boxes and plastic containers. They barely got the truck unloaded in the 3 hours they were there. Had I not been on the truck moving things around and having my children grab small items it would not have been finished. They were pleasant people but not what I've dealt with as professionals in the past. When they finished they asked for payment which I found odd since the fees had been paid up front. One gentlemen hung around just long enough for it to be awkward since I had no intention of parting with more money. All in all it was not a good experience. I feel as though I paid for a service I was not provided. Moving helpers was what I got. This company needs to re-evaluate their definition of professional.

Service cost: $404

We did a local move in Charlotte to Charlotte. The professional loaders showed up on time and loaded as much as the could on 26 Ft truck as possible. What could not fit I had to put in storage but I knew great chance all would not fit. 4 days later after we closed on next house same crew showed up again. This was good since they knew how truck was they loaded. It took longer on the unload part mainly because house was bigger and all bedrooms upstairs.  Wife and I had Avery good experience. I would use them again.

Service cost: $400

Very dissapointed in this company. I ordered professional movers and I received men who had never moved or handled anything before. They pushed and pulled things rather than picking them up rsulting in broken legs on furniture and when they heard they cracks they just shrugged their shoulders. They put boxes marked very fragile on the BOTTOM of a tier of heavy boxes. And the head man, the only one who knew what he was doing, would dissapear in the bathroom for 20 minutes while the others would stand around.  The company's solutions? Apologize and not charge me for the extra time it took.  That's not acceptable. I specifically ordered and paid for professionals. I did not get what I paid for. The drop off was alright but there were three movers not two. It doesn't seem to matter what you order. The company does whatever they want. I wil find someone else to move my things in the future!!

Scheduled a move from Burbank, CA. to Boone, NC.  The two gentlemen from SML who helped load the moving fan were professional and worked efficiently.  The only complaint on this end would be the $75 extra they charged because the movers had to travel x amount of miles to get to me (in Burbank).  This is something they can simply charge any time.   Turned out I needed SML again part way into my trip cross country when I need to change moving vans in Texas.  The 3 guys that transferred all my belongings into a new truck didn't bother placing the cardboard between furniture pieces and several pieces of furniture arrived scratched.  Wasn't terribly happy about this.  If it weren't for these two issues I'd give the company a higher grade.     Note:  I drove the moving fan myself so SML was not involved with a delivery.

Service cost: $470

Horrible experience! Movers did not show up leaving my family and I in a bad spot! Do not use this company if you expect any sort of reliability! If you do decide to use SML, be sure you have your friends on standby, because they may not show and leave you to deal with everything by yourself!I called SML back in February to get information and pricing about their services. I was pleased with what I was told and called them earlier last week to book two "Helpers" for a move that was taking place last Friday. Whenever I first called, I was told that I was not able to book any "Helpers" after noon (this was contrary to what I was told over the phone when I initially called for information). I explained to the CSR that my father was flying in at noon and I had to pick him up at the airport so I need the "Helpers" there after noon. She then told me she would check on it; then later told me the latest she could schedule was noon because she didn't like to send them out any later. I got off the phone with her to discuss my options with my family and later we called back. We got a different CSR this time and she had absolutely no issues booking us two helpers at 2pm. She told us to allow for an hour travel time so they should arrive between 2pm and 3pm.Friday afternoon rolls around and 2pm comes and goes.. followed by 3pm.. still no "Helpers!" At 3:20pm we called SML to let them know that our "Helpers" had still not arrived; the CSR told us that she would have to call a different branch to find out where they were and she would call us back. 4pm rolls around and we have still yet to hear anything back from SML on the status of our "Helpers;" so we call them back. They tell us they still don't know where our "Helpers" are and they are looking for someone else to send our way. When asked what time we should expect them they told us they did not know. At this point point it was two hours after our scheduled time and we still had no helper or any idea what time or even if we would be able to expect them. SML refunded our money, however, not having the help that we were depending on left my father and I to do all the moving by ourselves. We could have scheduled some friends to help us move but instead we told them we had it covered since were hiring "Helpers" through SML. Big mistake!

We just used Simple Moving Labor for loading/unloading our truck.  Our experience started a bit rocky when the movers who came to load our truck arrived more than 2 hours late.  This threw everything off, as we had housecleaners, and other appointments set up around their arrival time.  Once they arrived, they did a really good job wrapping and loading our furniture (although, a bit on the slow side).  On the other end, the crew we hired did show up on time and did a great job unpacking although they did put some items into the wrong rooms.  No big deal..  Overall, they were very hard workers, and we would definitely use this service again, if we were ever moving again.  Which we're not.  Moving sucks!  LOL.. .

I was VERY impressed with Dave and Brian!  They were professional, without being "stuffy", very informative, right on time and very efficient! They loaded my moving truck with precision and were very helpful in giving me tips to finish up (as I had to let them go after 3 hours, due to my lack of funds, unfortunately!).  There was NO damage to anything, either in my apartment or in the truck.  When I arrived (from Kenosha, WI) to Flint, MI., everything was in order in the truck and secured tightly.  I will certainly call SML in the future when I need movers!  The cost was affordable, even for me, and worth every penny! I was VERY happy with my guys!  You should give both of them a hefty raise! Thank you for sending the BEST!

We recently moved back to the Dallas, Texas area from Sarasota, Florida and used Penske Truck Rental which works with Simple Movers as loading labor.
 
PRO'S: 2 Pro packers arrived on time as scheduled, the office called also to monitor if they arrived and everything was going right.  A nice touch. We went with the higher cost pro packers instead of the grunts as we figured since they probably got paid more they would be more careful with our stuff.  The two guys were on time, went right to work and we needed them for an extra hour beyond our 3 hours originally contracted for.  They were efficient, helpful and friendly, and carefully stacked our boxes and furniture.  
 
At the other end of the move, the un-loaders arrived on time, went right to work, and had us unloaded in less than three hours, they were efficient, friendly and courteous.  All in all, a good experience, I would recommend them to anyone moving, we heard of them through Penske Truck Rental.
 
CON'S:  When we were done on the loading side and signing off on the paperwork, one of the workers said to me "We also work for tips, you know…"   Now at $50.00 an hour per person/per hour, I'm assuming these guys make more than minimum wage, and to keep good people you need to pay them for what they do, but I don't like being strong-armed for a tip.  I was up all day and night packing boxes and literally had $2 in my wallet, and didn't want to insult them with $2, so I asked them if they would give me a mailing address and I would send them a tip.  The more I thought about it, the more agitated it made me that they were asking for more than the contract price.  I wouldn't care if the contract stated their workers also work for tips (it doesn't), but I don't appreciate someone hitting me up for one.  
 
At the unloading end, I was curious to see if this was an employee practice to remind the client they work for tips, but the two gentlemen who unloaded us never brought it up.  Since they didn't bring it up, I gave them $100 as a cash tip to split between them for their help.  I don't mind paying for good service, but I don't like being strong-armed for a tip as we were on the loading side.

Service cost: $700

I used the Pro-Movers to load my rental truck in Pembroke Pines, FL and unload the truck in St. Augustine two days later.  When I scheduled my move,  the customer service rep was very helpful and thorough, explaining the entire process and all my options.  A company rep called me before my move and during the loading / unloading to make sure I was happy with the service.  Both crews arrived on time and did a fantastic job wrapping my furniture, loading and unloading.  All four individuals were very professional and courteous.  I would not hesitate using SML for my next move - I highly recommend them.

Service cost: $763

The loading help came to my residence on time and they were very polite and professional.  I had a three hour contract with SML and they had the 22 foot truck that I rented loaded and ready for me to go in a little under the three hours.  They then asked if there was anything that I would like to have them do, so I asked if they could move a planter tub back out near the street were I moved it from for the winter months, which they did.  I would recommend SML's service to anyone, they were great.  Everything in the truck survived the 1600 mile trip with no damage.

I scheduled a 2-man crew to help load a 26-ft Pensketruck.  They arrived exaactly on time, worked for 2 hours with only one short break.  These 2 guys were awesome - they hefted op heavy pieces of furniture easily and marched out the door.  I have an antique china cabinet with glass front and sides - loaded easily - arrived 650 miles away with no breakage.  I'm most impressed and so glad I used SML's service.  Would do again in a heartbeat except I do not intend to move again.

Service cost: $330

I hired two men for loading my moving truck for a cross country move. I had the smallest penske truck for stuff worth a one bedroom apartment and did not want the added stress of lifting and loading the truck before the long drive. Even though I had only hired the "muscles" and not SML's professional movers, the service I got was as good as the professional service. The two guys (can't remember their names) showed up right on time. They took good care of my delicate stuff, and knew exactly how to stow them. They did a pretty good job of loading the truck in a sensible way without my input. Nothing had moved even slightly after two days of driving!

Service cost: $190

This was the first time I've hired movers and this was the worst move of my life. I will never use Simple Moving Labor. I booked the service as the customer service agent at the Penske Truck Rental asked me if I wanted to book movers as well. This was a mistake. The crew arrived 4 hours late-- the dispatch called around the initial arrival time and told me that the crew was unavailable at the time that I booked them. The person who helped me make my reservation didn't help me in booking the right type of crew and I had only 2 movers for a job that might have needed 3-4 movers. This move ended up taking almost 10 hours and costing us way more money than we anticipated. We were moving my house until nearly 3 am. This was a disaster. I would not recommend SML to anyone.

We hired Simple Moving to load our personal belongings onto the Penske Truck we rented to move from Las Vegas, Nevada to Fargo, North Dakota.  We paid extra to have the "Professional Movers".  The two movers were to be at our house at 9:00am - they called at 9:15 and said they were on their way.  The "lead" guy told us he is a landscaper but doing this to help out his family business and the other mover was his girlfriends brother.  The other mover kept his sunglasses on..  My husband, son and I helped carry the boxes I had already packed to the truck as they were so slow.  I was also hurrying to wrap the legs of furniture they were not doing..I could not beleive it.  They literally stacked boxes on top of our leather couch and chair.  We told them the furniture could not hold the heavy boxes - plus they weren't stacked evening and would have tipped over.  We fed them lunch and they charged us that time too.  They ran over two hours and didn't even complete the load!  They packed the 26' truck so poorly that our belonging didn't fit - the truck is suppose to hold a three bedroom house.  They got one bed on the load - we ended up leaving behind so much valuable stuff behind - a bed we had purchased at Christmas, pressure washer, vacumn cleaner, shop vac, trike, wagon..it is heartbreaking.  And now we have to pay to buy all of these things.
 
I DO NOT RECOMMEND SIMPLE MOVING!

This is a total ripoff. I complained at the time the boys were here that they were inexperienced, inept and not up to the job of simply unloading the truck. they were slow and had to be directed at every turn; a complete 180 form the crew that loaded me in Owasso. I DEMAND a 50% refund as the MOORPARK, CA. crew was 50% as efficient at the OWASSO, OK. crew. I paid the OWASSO crew a bonus for work well done. The MOORPARK crew owes me money for a shoddy, slothful job. The crew at MOORPARK included a High School 11th grader!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I could have hired of the street workers who would have completed the work in half the time at 1/4 your expense.

The movers took a significant amount of time to find the location of our storage unit. I had to direct them over the phone using google maps. Upon arrival, they were friendly and they worked very quickly. The managed to empty our moving truck significantly faster than any moving service I've used before and, as a 12-year member of the military, moving is definitely not new to me. I was very satisfied with their quickness but forgot to tip them. Now i'm glad I did. When it was time to move into our house, upon removing our stuff from the storage unit, we found that the movers had nearly destroyed most of our furniture. Almost every single piece was significantly dented, scratched, or cracked. I would definitely not recommend them to anybody whom doesn't feel like replacing or refinishing most of their furniture pieces.

Unfortunately, my experience with SML was very poor and frustrating.  I purchased the "Pro Movers", and it did not appear that I was given Pro Movers on either end of the move.  They were college/high school students with experience and professionalism of the "Moving Help" option.  This was EXTREMELY disappointing, seeing as how we spent quite a chunk of money for the "Pro Moving" option.  The loaders were late.  They were very friendly and efficient, however.  Nevertheless, they did not come with tools to take apart any furniture that needed to be taken apart (as I was told by SML that all Pro Movers will come with tools and take apart any furniture that needed to be taken apart).  In addition, they did not use the 3 packages of rope and entire box of bungees to secure anything in the truck.  I asked them repeatedly to tie down items, and absolutely nothing was tied down.  This downright refusal to do their job yielded in SEVERAL damaged and broken items.  My upright piano was also scratched pretty severe upon the loading.  Again, no furniture pads were used, and we supplied 2 dozen for them to use and specifically requested the pieces to be covered (such as the piano).   The unloading started off with miscommunication, as the local movers called me 15 minutes before they were supposed to come stating that they weren't aware there was a piano.  There was apparantly miscommunication between the SML and contracting company, and SML called me to tell me I would need to pay for a 3rd mover now last minute or this copmany would not perform.  I refused, stating that it is not in my contract, and they have had a month to solidify their details.  Finally, the company agreed to do it with their 2 man crew.  Again, the movers were nice and friendly.  However, they were in no way "Pro Movers". They came with NO paperwork either.  I was extremely disappointed in having paid the price for "Pro Movers" and received less than quality (and even destructive) moving help.    .

The day of the move, the crew called ahead to let me know their arrival time which was great, and they were right on schedule. The crew that arrived were very polite  and showed me their paperwork. They were a sub-contractor for SML expecting to unload a truck, not to load one. When I asked which ones were the "Pro-Movers" one stepped forward and said he was the lead and I didn't see any red flags. They informed me that they were not allowed to pack (unhook) my tv's, but I had someone else there just in case, so that was ok. When it came to packing the truck, I wish that I had just stood there the whole time. I gave them lots of blankets, but it turned out they didn't use most of them, sandwiching my chairs and tables in and around boxes instead (which I couldn't see when I came by to look.  When I expressed my concern about how they were packing, reminding them that the load was going long-distance, they said it would be fine, that they hadn't had any trouble in the past. On arrival (in another state) we had also hired SML to provide an unload crew. The crew didn't call or show and it was over 3 hours and several calls before the dispatcher admitted that my order hadn't been assigned to a crew (up until then we were told that the crew was running late, or that perhaps something had happened to them).  My husband and our driver (both of whom should not have been unloading a truck for health reasons) ended up unloading a lot of it and hiring a couple of local guys to help out. Due to the shifting of the load we now have lots of nicks on the furniture that hey didn't wrap as well as some boxes that were dented  when they fell. I had provided straps, blankets, etc.Note: I have called to report all of this to SML but they have not returned my call. That says a lot.  .
