Shleppers Moving & Storage

We got quotes from three companies, and Shleppers was the lowest by far. They had great online reviews, so we went with them. That was a huge mistake. The movers completely broke two items, and damaged nine others, taking pains to hide some of the items they broke. The foreman told us not to worry, that customer service would take care of us, but cust svce never returned our repeated phone calls. We finally disputed $500 of the charge with Discover, and Shleppers responded dishonestly, including the astounding claim that WE had not responded to THEIR attempts to reach us. As I was finally considering suing them in court, I reached out one last time - and got the only worthwhile person in the office, Amy, at ext 252. She and I worked the whole thing out in five minutes. I dropped the dispute, she refunded $400, all good, right? The next day, the company CEO sent a nasty email and left an even more disgusting voicemail threatening to bring us to court for committing fraud. Apparently he didn't know that we had dropped the credit card dispute. Instead of inquiring, though, he threatened and insulted us, which was mind-boggling. My wife saw the email first, calmly told him the facts, to which he responded "ok". No apology, nothing. I then heard the VM, read the email, and sent him a tough email in response. He has now escalated, threatening to get me arrested (for what, I have no clue), sending his lawyers after me, calling me a crook, you name it. This company is a total disaster. Luckily for them they have Amy, without whom they might have been sued into oblivion. Should I ever again need a mover, I will look for quotes from companies that do not have to charge exorbitant amounts to cover their advertising budget, and hopefully find a place, through word of mouth, that is honest and decent. It sure won't be Shleppers.

I would like to thank Eric Wolf who is more than just a salesperson, Eric guided me and my husband in what to expect in the whole moving process and was very honest both with pricing and planning. Selling a home and buying another with dates constantly changing, Eric was always available to answer questions and was flexible to constant changes to the move. We interviewed 3 other reputable companies in Westchester but Eric came in with best pricing and was more realistic with his presentation and made us feel comfortable. More importantly we must thank the movers who were considerate, friendly and were very careful with moving our furniture and other precious art pieces. My hat goes off to Will the foreman, the fantastic 4 team (Will, Dorsey, Damian and Antoine) who provided white glove service and should be recognized and awarded. We had some very heavy pieces and was very appreciative for all of there help in organizing the move in a seamless professional manner. Thanks for provided us the A Team

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4500

I've used Shleppers before to move a one bedroom apartment cross country. First time was fine, but this last one was not acceptable.

They failed to deliver my full-sized mattress. They delivered me someone else's king-sized mattress instead.

Opened and used my audio equipment while in transit. I can tell because the amplifier had been boxed in original manufacturer provided box. When delivered to me, was in a generic box without the foam padding, and had superficial damage. The speakers arrived damaged, requiring repair.

Dresser and media console furniture arrived damaged - the doors wouldn't stay closed and required repacement. And generally the furniture and audio equipment arrived cosmetically damaged beyond the usual wear and tear from moving.

Approximate cost of lost/damaged goods of ~$3,550.

I was pretty surprised at how poor the service was. I've tried to contact them numerous times over the last few months - I got into contact initally with employees two or three times who said they'd follow-up, but I have not heard back (or been replied to) despite periodically calling and leaving messages over the last two months.

This was unequivocally the worst experience I’ve had with any company or business. The entire move was done completely unprofessionally. Nearly none of my property came away unscathed. The movers were beyond incompetent to the point of being hostile. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU LIKE PAYING PEOPLE TO DESTROY AND STEAL YOUR PROPERTY.

Steven came out to inventory our items and give us an estimate. I don’t know if he has an issue with counting or just feeling lazy that day, but most of our items were not officially inventoried (including large items).
We were quoted at $1525, an obscene amount to pack and move so few things from such a small place. This is Manhattan. We live in a tiny box. We should have known something was off, but Shleppers had come HIGHLY recommended by friends and family.

On the day of the move, the movers showed up late. They made quick work of destroying our apartment. First they took the TV down to the van, and left it unattended with doors wide open. They packed everything haphazardly. Food was with clothes. Dirty cleaning supplies were packed with perishables and clean clothes. The dog’s food bowl was packed with kibble and water still in it. The coffee maker was packed with water still in it. Electronics were packed without having cables removed. An heirloom marble table, which was specifically supposed to be individually wrapped per our contract, was moved with no protection. Electronics were packed under open liquids. Records were packed at odd angles with items that could damage them. Discs were packed devoid of their cases with items that scratched them.

The movers quickly ran out of boxes because they were only filling them part way. When they ran out, they refused to pack the bathroom (which is about 5’x5’— no hyperbole here) or the fridge. We had to call the company to get the foreman to resume work.

The foreman demanded a cash tip of 20% multiple times. I didn’t feel comfortable giving it to him, but I was also isolated with four or five large men and he was very aggressive and repetitive in his demand.

When we arrived to the new apartment, we began to see the CHAOS that had become of our property. If I didn’t know any better I’d think they threw our items down the stairs instead of carrying them. Not a single moving blanket was used. They crushed one of my cacti. They packed another in a box with perishables, killing the plant and ruining the food (the movers laughed when they discovered this). Both of our tower speakers were cosmetically damaged. Our receiver was fried. Both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Pro were damaged. The heirloom marble table was damaged beyond repair. Custom frames were broken. Both leather chairs were damaged. The bed frame was damaged. The record shelf was damaged. The TV console had pieces missing. They cut through our bedsheet while removing the plastic cover. Magnets, especially of an explicit and LGBT nature, were stolen. MANY items were left behind, meaning that we had to taxi back and forth for the next day to retrieve them. The list could go on.

As soon as they left, I called Shleppers. Robert was a professional at least. He inventoried all of my items, had me send the photos, and immediately reached out to upper management. He told me that in the 40yr history of the company, he had only heard of a move this bad happening maybe 3 times. Unfortunately it’s clear that’s not the case, given all of the bad yelp reviews.

That evening, Howard, the third in command at the company, called to assure he would “make things right” despite their pathetic 60¢/lb. insurance policy. He was appalled that we were forced to tip cash, saying that demanding money from a client was the biggest no-no they had on the rule book. He asked me for the my documentation of issues. I sent them over, and he forwarded them to Amy in the claims department.

Amy sent over a claim form. The form is poor at best. They state that they don’t move pressed wood or Ikea furniture. Steven never mentioned this. You can only file claim for items the sales rep has documented, and as I mentioned before, he documented practically nothing. Additionally, they wanted links and SKUs for all my items, many of which were antique or were impossible to find a comparable item to. When I called Amy to complain, she said I must fill it out regardless. She told me she was “unable to refund cash” (for the tip), and that, despite Howard’s assurances, we would, in fact only get the 60¢ on the lb.— and only for the items inventoried, which conveniently excluded all of the most valuable pieces.

Howard did not continue to help us. Shleppers offered us an insulting $196 for our claim. $96 for damage, and $100 as a “good will” gesture.

At this point, I’d rather have rented a U-Haul and destroy my own objects than pay someone else to do it.

I have documentation and proof of this entire fiasco if the company tries to dispute or discredit any of what I have written.

We’ve used Shleppers for our last 3 moves and will continue to use them for future moves. Their consistency — in both execution/process & professionalism of their employees — is remarkable and hugely valuable to us. Their rates are reasonable, communication frequent & very clear (leading up to / during / after the move), and the moving team is hard-working and generally a pleasure to be around. Importantly, they always treat our property as if it is their own — with respect and care.

Couldn’t recommend Shlepper’s enough; wish moving was a more frequent activity so we had more opportunities to work with them!

I had a excellent experience with shleppers moving. The workers were very courteous fast and experienced. They packed and shipped everything to my storage unit neatly and efficiently. They did a very good job and I will definitely recommend them to family and friens. I will use them again when I need to move again. Anna in the office followed up with my move to make sure that I had an excellent experience she was very courteous and kind and assisted me with the paperwork and setting up the move. We were extreamly pleased and Sleppers exceeded our expectations. The price was the best we were quoted . The phone conversation were all knowledgeable courteous professionals who were always willling to go the extra mile to assist .The movers arrived timely and were courteous , organized and professional. They carefully wrapped all furniture and no damage to our home . All our furniture arrive after being stored 17 days all in perfect condition and 100 percent of ou inventory arrive 2 days after we moved in . We recently moved into a rental house for a temporary stay, while doing renovations on our home. Shleppers came in the day before our move to help us pack. They were professional and quick, and made sure it was a stress free day. The day of the move was no different. There were four men that helped us move into our rental. They did a wonderful job and made sure that we were happy with the job before they left. We will definitely use them again for our move back to our house in a few months. I would highly recommend them for packing and moving!

I chose Shleppers based off of a recommendation from a trusted colleague, and I am very pleased to say this company lives up to every bit of the reputation they've earned! Every step of the way, the representatives I worked with were courteous, knowledgeable, and above all, friendly! On the day of the move, the crew arrived a few minutes early and went above and beyond to make sure the move was as fast and pleasant as possible. Items were packed in a carefully, and they were very patient a we worked to place them in our new home. I really cannot say enough about this company. I would highly recommend Shleppers to anyone getting ready for a move of any size!

I first used Shleppers more than 10 years ago, and used them again last month. They remain exceptional -- excellent value in terms of service and price. The movers were professional, friendly and efficient. I was under the weather that day, and they were very patient with me about what needed to packed or donated. FYI, they take donations too, which is also part of their great service. Their customer service was helpful in getting me quotes, without being intrusive or insistent (no daily email reminders to get back to them and book a date, no phone calls). They patiently waited for me to get a firm move date.

If moving stresses you, this is the company to work with. Their team does all of it right, and you can literally just sit back and relax.

I recently used Shleppers for the second time in two years. I decide to use them again because of the extraordinarily helpful and pleasant specialist, Fran, who helped me plan everything and navigate some last minute logistical hiccoughs. I’m very happy I chose Shleppers again.

My movers arrived right on time and made quick work of packing up my apartment, attentive to my requests for some fragile items to be handled with extra care. The delivery at my new apartment was equally efficient.

Last month I moved out of a sublet back home while finishing up renovations in an apartment purchase. This move was exceptional - fast, painless, and a good price. Yesterday I moved into said ready apartment and was met with the same service - fast, painless, and fair pricing. The movers were extremely friendly and efficient on both of the moves and everything was in the same condition upon arrival as upon departure. The company is extremely communicative and easily accessible and they deal with COIs with ease. Doing two back-to-back moves with Shleppers, I definitely trust them for future use and recommend their service to others.

The 96 inch couch was moved into the apartment approximately 40 years ago when it was legal to put the sofa on top of the elevator . Apparently it is illegal to use the elevator roof now . The superintendent of the building stated (repeatedly, categorically and arrogantly) that there is no way to get this sofa out. He re-stated several times that it must be destroyed ,”cut in half “ . He has seen this many times because it will not fit down the steps or in the elevator. He also claimed that there was a 3500 fee for moving out of the coop. I guess that is for his ignorant advice. I demanded written proof of this fee from him and the building manager and have yet to see it since demanding it 2 weeks ago. Anyway..

With prodding from me, because I refused to chop up my mothers antique sofa, the Shleppers called a supervisor to the site and they successfully removed the sofa via the steps . It was a second floor apartment, so just one flight. This was heroic to me because my mother left me this sofa and it was her mother’s sofa. So it was over 100 years old and irreplaceable.
Instead of listening to the super who really didn’t know the moving business the moving team called their supervisor who got the job done. I feel sorry for those who may have listened to the super in the past. Thank You Shleppers !

From the initial call to the final payment, these people were on top of everything. The employees were very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions and concerns. I received several reminder calls and email and my calls were returned timely. The price they quoted was the price I paid. I was moving one room and it appeared that I was moving the whole apartment based on all the stuff I had and they didn’t even question it. The mover arrived on time and was extremely accommodating. We lived on the fifth floor of a walk up and they appeared not to even notice. They worked quickly and nothing was damaged. A++ service. I would definitely recommend.

My fiancé and I needed to move from Washington heights, NY to the upper east side. To start, booking their services is very easy. I made numerous changes to our agreement on what they were going to move for me and was always met with a positive attitude on the other end. The movers were polite, fast and efficient. One of the most impressive things was that they were able to navigate the narrow streets of my block on the upper east side and find parking with their truck. The movers placed everything where we wanted. We are extremely satisfied and would highly recommend shleppers to anyone who needs to move. They’re worthy every penny!

Shleppers is amazing. They know what they're doing, they make sure they do it well, and they occasionally work miracles. Not only are they extremely efficient, but they're also very good at problem-solving, both in advance and on the spot. Everyone who worked on my move, from the office staff to the movers, did a spectacular job.

They came in the day before my move to make sure everything was packed. They were incredibly fast, even by professional standards. On the actual day of the move, everything went against them -- they couldn't find parking on the street and had to park on a different block, and it was raining very hard. My new building had strict rules about moving hours, and I was worried because the parking and weather had us behind. I should have had more faith! Even though they also had trouble parking at the new building, putting us even further behind schedule, they nevertheless managed to get everything into the apartment in the time allowed, because they are just that good. And they didn't even look like they were hurrying, either; they still took the time to sort everything into the rooms they were labeled for, they assembled my bed, and they even helped me lug stuff into my building's storage unit.

I would definitely use them again, and I would recommed them to anyone. They are just the best.

I recently used Shleppers for my move from New York City to Denver and had a great experience. As I was only one person moving a single bedroom of furniture, Shleppers was by far the most affordable option for a long distance move with minimal items. I was pleased to find that in addition to being affordable, Shleppers was attentive, helpful and thorough. Everyone I communicated with throughout the process was responsive and diligent, making my move as seamless as possible. All of my things arrived in their original condition in the estimated time frame. I would absolutely recommend Shleppers for a long distance move!
