Long-distance move from New York, NY to Chatham, NJ

Terrible experience.

Terrible service, from customer service to movers.
The sales person does all the possible to sell you in, and you believe you'll have great service.
We hired full packing with move, so the quote was done at our place, after seeing all we have. The movers arrive on the day of packing/moving and give that look "Oh, you have a lot of stuff".
During packing, they were careful, packed everything but I wasn't happy to see they ate all the chocolates my parents had just brought to me from Brazil, without asking anything. Later on they drank several of my protein shake bottles, again, no asking and laughs while doing thinking I wasn't seeing it.
When unloading the truck, they were not careful with the new house. Scratches on hardwood floor, holes on walls of furniture hitting the wall, but the worst was a huge hole on my living room rug. I then called the movers lead to see it, he took a photo of it and told me to reach out the company.
Next day, reached out the company to hear that they had confirmed damage was not caused by movers - the leader showed the photo to them like something he took before the move had started. After many back and forth, the upper management offered me in good faith $50 for my rug.
I hated the customer service and support to you as a consumer. I gave over $400 in tip for the movers, I just wish I could cancel and give $0 for acting like I'm stupid.

Another example of good movers. OZ before loading the truck, they walk with you and count every box and items you have. When unloading, they count again and match. With Shleppers, they take your stuff to the truck, they unload and ask you to check the truck. How can I be sure nothing is missing, if I have no clue what has been loaded into.

I wish I had decided to go with OZ Movers, which I had used 4x before and never had any issue them.

Don't use them, even with a lower price, not worth it!

Long-distance move from Santa Clarita, CA to Jupiter, FL

12 weeks Since Move and Still Do Not Have My Stuff.

My husband and I moved to FL from CA 12 weeks ago. I am currently 25 weeks pregnant, and we are still sleeping on an air mattress and using camping chairs to sit on because Shleppers has been unable to advise when or even if they intend to deliver our stuff.

We contracted Shleppers to pick up our belongings in CA on May 21 and requested a drop off date of June 15 in FL. They advised us that the typical delivery window was 7-14 days after the requested delivery date.

As of today, we still have not received our belongings and have received no clear communication from Shleppers regarding when they might even load our belongings up in CA to be shipped out to FL. It seems as if they are holding everything hostage. We continue to get answers like: "we don't know where the driver is," "one of our drivers never showed up," or even "I can't help you." We were advised that legally, they have 30 days from the requested delivery date (June 15) to provide our belongings - that 30 days was up 18 days ago as of today. I have been calling Shleppers every day for the past two weeks and have been unable to get anyone to pick up my calls, or return my calls with any helpful information. If I do speak with someone, I am never able to get any information regarding timeline or even if they intend to provide my belongings. I am told they do not know where or when their driver will be coming to pick up my belongings which seems strange since their dispatch department is in charge of knowing that very information and should have at least some idea if I am calling them every day!

My desire is for Shlepper's to make things right by providing clear, proactive communication regarding when they will ship out my belongings and guarantee that they will meet the delivery window.

I am most disappointed by their lack of integrity, proactive communication and willingness to resolve this issue. I understand things happen, but my pregnant belly would really appreciate having a real bed to sleep on in the near future.

Shleppers Moving & Storage.

I've been looking for a reliable and not too expensive moving/storage company for quite a while and called about 5 different companies in the city. Shleppers was recommended to me by my friend who moved to another country and needed his stuff to be put in the storage for a while. The service was on point, the movers worked diligently and finished the job in a few hours. The move went out smoothly and definitely was a pleasant experience!

The Best In Their Field.

Thank you Shleppers for helping us move into our dream home. We had multiple pick up locations before dropping off at the final destination and Shleppers was right there to help us stay on target and within budget. From receiving the quote, understanding everything that was included in the cost, and the move itself - I will gladly recommend Shleppers for moving needs.

Recent Move.

Our long distance move had multiple unexpected challenges. Shelppers found effective responses to every one. I was particularly impressed by the team work shown by our movers under many obstacles. I was particularly impressed with the leadership of the foreman. Despite the obstacles, our move was finished on time and all items were delivered safely.

Great from beginning to end.

I was so impressed with the customer service. Shannon was attentive, communicative, and so helpful before the move in date. She even called half-way through the move to make sure everything was going well. The guys moved our stuff quickly and efficiently, and there was absolutely no handholding involved. I was even able to get some work done! I would definitely recommend them to friends, plus the pricing was very reasonable.

Lost / Damaged Goods in Cross-Country Move.

I've used Shleppers before to move a one bedroom apartment cross country. First time was fine, but this last one was not acceptable.

They failed to deliver my full-sized mattress. They delivered me someone else's king-sized mattress instead.

Opened and used my audio equipment while in transit. I can tell because the amplifier had been boxed in original manufacturer provided box. When delivered to me, was in a generic box without the foam padding, and had superficial damage. The speakers arrived damaged, requiring repair.

Dresser and media console furniture arrived damaged - the doors wouldn't stay closed and required repacement. And generally the furniture and audio equipment arrived cosmetically damaged beyond the usual wear and tear from moving.

Approximate cost of lost/damaged goods of ~$3,550.

I was pretty surprised at how poor the service was. I've tried to contact them numerous times over the last few months - I got into contact initally with employees two or three times who said they'd follow-up, but I have not heard back (or been replied to) despite periodically calling and leaving messages over the last two months.

Local move within New York, NY

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had.

This was unequivocally the worst experience I’ve had with any company or business. The entire move was done completely unprofessionally. Nearly none of my property came away unscathed. The movers were beyond incompetent to the point of being hostile. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU LIKE PAYING PEOPLE TO DESTROY AND STEAL YOUR PROPERTY.

Steven came out to inventory our items and give us an estimate. I don’t know if he has an issue with counting or just feeling lazy that day, but most of our items were not officially inventoried (including large items).
We were quoted at $1525, an obscene amount to pack and move so few things from such a small place. This is Manhattan. We live in a tiny box. We should have known something was off, but Shleppers had come HIGHLY recommended by friends and family.

On the day of the move, the movers showed up late. They made quick work of destroying our apartment. First they took the TV down to the van, and left it unattended with doors wide open. They packed everything haphazardly. Food was with clothes. Dirty cleaning supplies were packed with perishables and clean clothes. The dog’s food bowl was packed with kibble and water still in it. The coffee maker was packed with water still in it. Electronics were packed without having cables removed. An heirloom marble table, which was specifically supposed to be individually wrapped per our contract, was moved with no protection. Electronics were packed under open liquids. Records were packed at odd angles with items that could damage them. Discs were packed devoid of their cases with items that scratched them.

The movers quickly ran out of boxes because they were only filling them part way. When they ran out, they refused to pack the bathroom (which is about 5’x5’— no hyperbole here) or the fridge. We had to call the company to get the foreman to resume work.

The foreman demanded a cash tip of 20% multiple times. I didn’t feel comfortable giving it to him, but I was also isolated with four or five large men and he was very aggressive and repetitive in his demand.

When we arrived to the new apartment, we began to see the CHAOS that had become of our property. If I didn’t know any better I’d think they threw our items down the stairs instead of carrying them. Not a single moving blanket was used. They crushed one of my cacti. They packed another in a box with perishables, killing the plant and ruining the food (the movers laughed when they discovered this). Both of our tower speakers were cosmetically damaged. Our receiver was fried. Both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Pro were damaged. The heirloom marble table was damaged beyond repair. Custom frames were broken. Both leather chairs were damaged. The bed frame was damaged. The record shelf was damaged. The TV console had pieces missing. They cut through our bedsheet while removing the plastic cover. Magnets, especially of an explicit and LGBT nature, were stolen. MANY items were left behind, meaning that we had to taxi back and forth for the next day to retrieve them. The list could go on.

As soon as they left, I called Shleppers. Robert was a professional at least. He inventoried all of my items, had me send the photos, and immediately reached out to upper management. He told me that in the 40yr history of the company, he had only heard of a move this bad happening maybe 3 times. Unfortunately it’s clear that’s not the case, given all of the bad yelp reviews.

That evening, Howard, the third in command at the company, called to assure he would “make things right” despite their pathetic 60¢/lb. insurance policy. He was appalled that we were forced to tip cash, saying that demanding money from a client was the biggest no-no they had on the rule book. He asked me for the my documentation of issues. I sent them over, and he forwarded them to Amy in the claims department.

Amy sent over a claim form. The form is poor at best. They state that they don’t move pressed wood or Ikea furniture. Steven never mentioned this. You can only file claim for items the sales rep has documented, and as I mentioned before, he documented practically nothing. Additionally, they wanted links and SKUs for all my items, many of which were antique or were impossible to find a comparable item to. When I called Amy to complain, she said I must fill it out regardless. She told me she was “unable to refund cash” (for the tip), and that, despite Howard’s assurances, we would, in fact only get the 60¢ on the lb.— and only for the items inventoried, which conveniently excluded all of the most valuable pieces.

Howard did not continue to help us. Shleppers offered us an insulting $196 for our claim. $96 for damage, and $100 as a “good will” gesture.

At this point, I’d rather have rented a U-Haul and destroy my own objects than pay someone else to do it.

I have documentation and proof of this entire fiasco if the company tries to dispute or discredit any of what I have written.

Stress free move.

I have been referred to Schleppers by 2 of my friends who had amazing experience with them. The in home evaluator came in and gave me a good estimate. The moving crew was amazing, very courteous and have done an amazing job. I moved from a 3 bedroom apartment and had a lot of delicate and expensive stuff. The guys accommodated every request of mine. I would use them again if I have to.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Silver Spring, MD

Excellent Service!

We chose Shleppers because of the reviews we read online and because they sounded the most professional on the phone. After talking with a Shleppers representative on the phone and walking through our apartment, we received a flat-rate for our move spread out over two days. When we updated Shleppers requesting more book boxes, they adjusted the flat-rate slightly and delivered boxes to our door. We boxed 90% of our items ourselves with boxes and tape provided by Shleppers.

The original plan was that Shleppers would pack up a truck, the truck would be securely locked up over night, and everything would be delivered the second day at noon.

The Shleppers representative said it would be too many hours for one crew to pack up our place, drive to our new state, and unload everything, and drive back to NY. It appears they take good care of their workers!

Oscar was a great crew leader. He and his men worked tirelessly to pack everything in a careful manner. I was amazed at how fast everyone worked. Oscar and his crew arrived exactly on time at our apartment and they packed everything up in three hours.

A representative from Shleppers called us and asked us if the second part of our move (the delivery) could be at 2PM instead of noon. We said no problem.

The following day, in our new state, we found the Shleppers truck in front of our new address at 8AM. We were a little confused. It appears the truck had two jobs on it and we were the first job of the day instead of the second. We figured better early than late!

Rene, the delivery crew leader, was also a great crew leader. Everything was unloaded and placed where we requested in approximately an hour and a half.

Everything that made it out of our first place made it to our second. We were very impressed.

Exactly what I was looking for.

I have used Shleppers twice now and I have never had a smoother moving experience. The teams have both showed up on time, prepared, and ready to go. Perhaps the most important: they charged me what they quoted! To the penny! I have never had any damage to any items, and the team was professional and efficient from start to finish. I cannot recommend them more, and will use them in the future, no hesitations.

Extremely professional; wouldn’t use anyone else.

We’ve used Shleppers for our last 3 moves and will continue to use them for future moves. Their consistency — in both execution/process & professionalism of their employees — is remarkable and hugely valuable to us. Their rates are reasonable, communication frequent & very clear (leading up to / during / after the move), and the moving team is hard-working and generally a pleasure to be around. Importantly, they always treat our property as if it is their own — with respect and care.

Couldn’t recommend Shlepper’s enough; wish moving was a more frequent activity so we had more opportunities to work with them!

Robbers/Liars/Callousmovers.

Our point of dispute lies in the gross negligence, robbery and deceit committed by the company and movers.

In summary:

-broke $2500 TV and $100 lamp, that Nicola told us we could not individually insure, then forced us to sign with threats of charging us more, if we wouldn't sign 30cents/pd. They packed both of these, in their own boxes
-stole my ipod, and brand new clothes (see more below).
-we saw Gerard callously break our big mirror that attaches to a desk. He picked it up not by the base, but a wooden 2" by 4" attachment board, which would obviously not hold the weight of this heavy mirror. He promised that the company has two repair men that could come fix it, which as per the company, he lied. No one came to fix it.
-Also broke lots of wine glasses and dishes.
-Bad indentations and scratches on ALL of our bedroom set. Gerard said someone would come fix this, to no avail.
- We received someone else's decorations. Who know what is missing from our stuff that we do not realize.
-Without permission, they packed away my work uniform even though I explicitly told them not to touch a certain pile (which also had my stolen ipod and clothes, several times.
-Lots of hidden charges that you will find out along the way. Only one example, no one told us that they charge us for the time to put into storage.
-4 Roaches and waterbugs (both dead and alive) in the boxes. Also mice droppings (I was an exterminator for 15 years).
-Very rude and disparaging, mainly Margaret Lombardi, from claims. She is extremely condescending and not the least sympathetic. My wife did not fell comfortable speaking to her.
-Inconvenience. Because the TV was broken, I still have no internet or phone service because Time Warner will not come until you have a TV. I am a radiologist and had been on call 3 times since this occurred and I really need internet and phone.
-Shleppers uses delay tactics and try to wear you out. They hope that the customer will just take what is offered. They make false promises. After we complained to customer service about claims, they said they would be able to give us much more than the 311.50. They did not.

MAIN ISSUE
They broke a 2500 plasma TV and 100 dollar lamp and stole my ipod and new, tagged clothes (more on this below). THEY packed/unpacked the TV and lamp in THEIR own boxes. Since the first sales representative Nicola told us they we could NOT insure individual, more valuable boxes like we would have wanted (The company will lie and say she would not have said this and also argue that she is not qualified to let us know about the insurance, which should not up to the customer's discretion to determiner if a Sales Rep is qualified or not). Therefore, we did not further inquire into extra insurance, which we would have liked for certain boxes. She should have told us that she did not know about the insurance or you have to call, but she did not.
Then they forced us to sign 30cents/pounds, even after or they would not leave and keep on charging us the hourly rate. Where we signed, it says "Unless the shipper expressly releases the shipment to a value of 30 ( ) cents per pound per article, the carrier's maximum liability for loss and damage shall be either the lump sum value declared by the shipper of 2500, whichever is greater".
When I asked the company about this statement, they try to twist it and make it more confusing and wordy then it need to be. This is meant to seem that you may get up to $2500. Gerard, the foreman who forced us to sign, probably lied or at least not knowingly told us that we could get more than the 30cents/pd, and closer to the 2500 that is stated above. We tried calling the company before we signed for some clarity and assurance but no one was conveniently there to pick up the phone. We were forced into signing and promised this we would be worked out later on. It was not at all as well were only promised about 311.50 (as we found out several weeks later). No one in their right mind would sign something valuing at 30 cents per pound after they see their 2500 TV is broken. There was duress. It is a contract of adhesion, and thus should be unenforceable (especially since we were initially told by Nicola that we could individually insure each box!). We should have not signed, and that is where I blame us. That is when we called American Express to cancel the payment, but since it was already pending, we were not able to do so until the charge went through. We also think that Gerard, may have done it on purpose as the team was mad because we could not let them move in earlier and it was a weekend. It was obvious that the team wanted to leave asap. By the way we still tipped them 15% and the first team 20%.
We moved on late June and moved in late July. We put our stuff in Shlepper's storage while we were on vacation. I had in a neat pile my ipod and new clothes (many of which the tags were still on), which were suppose to go away with me. I told Carlo's team (Carlo was the foreman on the first move), NOT to touch this pile several times. They still tried to pack it, even though, I told them not to. This is when they stole my ipod and new clothes. The only reason that I did not report that then was because I wanted to be 100% sure that they did not pack it away "accidently", since they were snooping in that pile all day.

We have pictures and receipts, if you need. Please contact us if you need anything else.

Shleppers was GREAT!

Shleppers was GREAT. We had a complicated situation and they were with us 100% of the way. We sold our home (in New York) in September and were not moving into our new home (in Georgia) until November. Shleppers came to our home, helped us pack up (it took 2 days!) and then stored all our our things in their brand new warehouse, which is enormous! When we were finally in our new home, we called up and our goods were shipped from NY in a couple of days. The men arrived in Savannah two days later and helped us unpack.

All the workers were kind, clean, courteous, and hard working. We were comfortable with them in our home and were grateful for all the help they gave during this very stressful time.

I would highly recommend Shleppers.

Excellent Moving Experience.

My wife and I had a terrific moving experience with Shleppers. We moved from New York to Pennsylvania and had to store our items for 3 weeks, until our newly purchased house closed. Oscar and his crew were excellent, efficient, and very careful in moving the items. In particular, we had a treadmill to be moved to the basement. The guys found that it was too wide for the doorway, so not only did they remove the door, but also the vertical portions of the treadmill so that it fit through with an inch to spare. They put it back together again in perfect condition! We also found out that the couple purchasing our home had used Shleppers 3 times in the past and wouldn't use anyone else. I would recommend their services without reservation.

Fantastic, low-stress NYC moving experience!

We used Shleppers for our recent move and couldn't have been happier. Moving when seven months pregnant, during a major heat wave, and in NYC made for a pretty stressful situation, and Shleppers made the move as stress-free as possible. I had used them for a previous move in 2011 and they did a great job, so I felt confident using them again, but this move went even more smoothly than the last. Fran and Jonathan were so helpful in coordinating the move with transparency and confirming every detail. I even had some last minute changes (deciding not to move a piece of furniture, adding more boxes) and Fran adjusted the estimate to fit. Then the day of the move, Angel and his crew came 15 minutes early and started moving all of our boxes and furniture out right away. They were friendly and professional, and most of all efficient, competent, and gentle on our belongings. They arrived at our new apartment at the same time we did (we expected they would stop for lunch, take their time, and we'd get there a good hour ahead of the truck, so we were really pleased with the timing), and set up all the furniture and placed the boxes exactly where we wanted them to. We've unpacked all but a few boxes, and everything arrived safely and in one piece. The only surprise of the entire move was a welcome one: Shleppers finished an hour ahead of the estimated time we were given. I've recommended Shleppers to a number of friends since my first move with them, and they've all been just as happy with their moving experiences. I'll keep recommending Shleppers (and Angel in particular; he was wonderful), and will use them for our next move!

Local move from Bronx, NY to Brooklyn, NY

Move within NYC.

We had a great experience with Shleppers Moving! Fran, our Relocation Consultant was super nice and helpful. She made sure everything was accurate and that we got the COI that we needed for our new building right away. I initially received quotes from 4 companies, and all were either slightly or significantly more than I was expecting. Shleppers was one of the more reasonable ones, but it was also the experience working with Fran that made me decide to go with Shleppers (plus I enjoy the name!). Our move was slightly complicated as my girlfriend was moving from the Bronx to Brooklyn and I was moving within Brooklyn, not to mention we needed to bring one item from the Bronx apartment to leave at my old apartment, but they made it easy (and it was much better than orchestrating two separate moves)

Felix (the Foreman) and his team were great! They were scheduled to arrive between 9-10am, but actually got there on the early side -
closer to 8:30 am and wasted no time in loading things up. By the time they got to me at the second location - they came in, I showed them everything that needed to be moved, and they started taking boxes out right away. Felix also helped get my curtains down as I was having trouble. They were done loading my stuff within 30 min. By the time I got to the final destination (maybe 15-20 min after they left), they were already unloading items into the new place. The longest part was putting the couch back together.

Overall the move went very smoothly and took less than 5 hours in total (including the driving to each location). The only issues were that one dresser got a little scuffed up and the back came apart (it wasn't an expensive or sturdy piece of furniture), but Felix nailed it back in right away after explaining how the tape had pulled it off the nails, without having to be asked. This was the first time either of us had ever used professional movers and it made things so much easier for us. I would definitely use Shleppers again and recommend them (particularly Felix and his team)!
