Long-distance move from Farmland, IN to Welaka, FL

Re: Out of state move

On July 23rd, 2021 I had S and M Relo LLC move my home from Indiana to Florida. The company that contracted the move had assured me that my home items and business furniture would be safe. It took until September for truck to come. When boxes were delivered items were broken, boxes had missing items, my palm tree it’s leaves were broken on off, my brand new queen mattress was missing, the 2 Jamaican boys tried to deliver junk that wasn’t mine , my elliptical was broken, refused to take my church pew that was family memoir. I called numerous times , tried to follow claim, rude customer service, refuse to return call. Paid more than I contract stated. Contracting company Lee and Steve refused to answer or reimbursement for missing bed , lost items and broken items. Do not use this company, they have thieves working for them.

Now it has been going on 3 years and still no reimbursement. The company does not pay face value of merchandise unless you add extra costly insurance. When they loaded my bed they spoke in foreign language while holding mattress. I ask what they said one Tony said he was trying to use mattress to hold everything from falling. Already my heart told me not intention. I have several Jamaican friends who are honest not thieves.

Long-distance move from Kentucky to North Dakota

Nervous at 1st, but better than I expected.

Hi! I had a move from KY to ND. It took a little while, but when my stuff showed up, it was exactly as I packed it. It seemed like they treated my things with respect. My dog's beds still smelled like him. My couch too. (Btw~he passed just b4 the move) it took a little time, but I got everything back & perfect condition. I'm so thankful to John, the phone gals & Jesus. I know they catch a lot of heat from some kind of slow deliveries, but you'll get your belongings. Thank you so much S & M. You actually have a soft spot in my heart. Wishing you all at S & M wonderful business ventures for years to come.

Long-distance move from Atlanta, GA to Haverhill, MA

Most fraudulent, rude, dishonest company and owner ever.

When I booked my moving company I booked Colonial Moving(I will be writing them a review as well) who told me they were not a broker. When the truck driver showed up on May 16th to move my things, I was informed they were with S&M.No one informed me that this had been brokered out.My initial inventory list is attached but you can see I included a ton of furniture. The quote I got was for $1,578.42 for 363cf.The week of the move I contacted Colonial to inform them that I sold the sectional couch, armoire, dresser, computer chair, and TV stand and the 5 suitcases were going in my car and to update my quote. They never got back to me.When S&M came to pick up my things they said they needed to show the owner Steve my items to confirm the quote is correct. He called me to inform me that the quote was now going to be $2,431.28 for now 500cf.This made NO sense considering I sold all the big furniture that was on the initial quote. He was the most unprofessional owner of a company I have ever dealt with in my entire life. After a very long argument of trying to understand how this made sense and asking if he would give me some sort of discount or break since this seemed absurd, he sent me a new quote and told me I had to sign and use a credit card for the $790.99 or else he was telling his movers to leave. They already had my deposit so I didn’t have much of a choice and my hands were tied as I wasn’t going to be able to get my deposit back or another moving company there. He kept yelling at me and telling me I was out of line, yet all I was trying to understand is how I could have less on my inventory yet the quote be this much more.He didn’t want to hear it, nor help me out, nor have good customer service, and also told me to never call him again. He was the one who gave me his number and told me to call if I had questions. They charged me for 2 staircases and 3 long carries yet when I informed the company when I originally booked how my apartment was set up and such they said I shouldn’t have any of those additional charges.Steve told me he was actually helping me by not charging me more than he already was.He told me I had to sign the new contract and I told him it was the smallest print and I didn’t have a laptop and all I had was my phone. He said I could sign on my phone but I told him I couldn’t read half of it.He told me I had to hurry or he was telling his movers to leave. He was rude and arrogant. He had awful customer service yet somehow he is the owner of the company. He would interrupt me constantly. When his secretary called me to take my credit card she told me the total was $830.54.I said, on the quote it says $790.99, she said well we have to charge you a 5% fee for using a card since you aren’t using a money order.I had already gone to the store to purchase the money order of what I thought I was going to owe of $538.14 and couldn’t void that nor could I leave them at my apartment alone to go get them a new money order.Steve said I could use a credit card, NEVER informing me of the 5% fee they were going to charge. When I asked if he could help me out even a little by waiving that, he said absolutely not, that isn’t how this works. When I called the office to get an update on where my things were, they told me they would look into it and get back to me.They never did.So I called back, they didn’t answer my call. I tried again the next day and they didn’t answer my call.So I decided to immediately use my boyfriend’s phone and they answered, which showed they were screening my calls and purposely not answering my number.Every time I called to get an update, the response I would get is either “it’s still in Atlanta and we are trying to find you a driver” or “it is in route and you’ll get a call in the next 2 business days”.That didn’t happen.Again, I had to use someone else’s phone for them to answer until I finally told them I noticed they weren’t answering my personal number, and then they started to again.Steve and his company of S&M, nickel and dimed me the entire time and it took almost 4 WEEKS to get my things and to receive my desk broken.Steve and his company are unprofessional, an absolute joke, thieves, and just take advantage of their customers and do NOT care whatsoever about customer service.I provided an accurate inventory list.I tried to update the inventory list to take MANY things off, yet the quote went up.I tried to get the Steve to assist in helping me with the price, he wouldn’t budge and instead was SOO rude and quite frankly just a mean individual. They wouldn’t answer my phone calls. They gave me inaccurate delivery time frames and when I finally got my things I realized it had been brokered out to third company for delivery. They were amazing to deal with! They also informed me Steve ripped me off because they used only about 375cf when Steve decided to charge me for 500cf. S&M Relo LLC and Steve are the most fraudulent company I have ever dealt with and I would NEVER recommend them to anyone.

Long-distance move from Galva, IA to Greenville, SC

Avoid company at all cost!

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! If by some chance you get brokered into it ( what happened to me ) back out immediately!! So where do I start.. so we moved out from our house in Iowa to head to SC on May 31st our items didn't get delivered till July 18th.. they told us 9 days .. but they have 21 by contract.. The entire time they could give us no update on when or where my stuff was .. Jackie the from office manager kept telling me she didn't have that information on hand at her desk.. the first manager I talked to argued with me telling me I had no clue what I was talking about and I was not looking at my contract when I had it in front of me.. my glass table was shattered my 1,000 dollar tv was not on the truck .. my 300 dollar sound bar as also missing.. all the boxes were in very bad condition with my high value collectables damaged.. the driver told me he would be there at 8 am .. I had to call him twice .. and both times you could clearly tell I had just woke him up after he said he was on the way .. had to contact his boss to get anywhere .. as they arrived they were putting belongings in my yard ( like my 2,000 dollar matresses!! ) they have little regard for you or your belonging.. was charged 250 cubic feet.. for 80 cubic feet . Moved an studio apartment for about 2,500.. worst experience ever!

Long-distance move from Youngstown, OH to Foley, AL

Most dishonest business I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

The owner Steve Coburn of S and M Relo is the most heartless, hateful, dishonest business man, ever!! What started out being a $1797 move turned into $3345 move, and some of my stuff is missing. I was brokered into using this company, unfortunately. Did not pick them.

He made me pay $1600 on top of the rate I was quoted, because "out of the goodness of his heart" he was bringing me my stuff alone to Alabama because I was so stressed out, and tired of waiting for it. The driver shows up with this huge truck with someone else's stuff on it. So the special truck, just for me, with the $1600 price tag on it was a total lie!! Then I get to see the drivers phone, and there are text messages between he and Steve saying, "they need to get their story straight..the smaller Penskie truck broke down on the way down south." So basically I was charged an expediting fee, for a truck that was already heading south!! The driver was coming this way anyways from Nashville to Texas, but Steve made me believe he rented that truck, and paid a driver just for my shipment. When the driver got here, he informed me it would be an additional $225 for the stairs to my apartment. I had a complete meltdown and told them to take my stuff back to Ohio, burn it, sell it, put it in storage, they were not getting another dime from me.

After that, the driver said he was going to eat the $225 himself, and just bring me my stuff. Then I had to wait for Steve to email me another contract with the $225 fee taken off. I was not signing anything until the stair fee was waived!! Glad now that I did have that meltdown, because the driver seemed to be in on the lie about how such a big truck was needed for my little bit of stuff.

Steve refused to take a credit card from me, because his word was not good enough that he would in fact have my truck here on friday morning as promised, so I put a hold on my card. He accused me of "playing games", so now he would only accept cash from me. I drained my bank acct for this man, and then he wanted more. All I wanted was something in writing, and he refused. He said he would not give me anything in writing, that his word was good enough..huh!! I don't trust that guy any farther than I can throw him!! He is dishonest, greedy, and will make you sign stuff in a hurry, or that is cut off of the page, and then tell you, "you should have read your contract.." My 86 year old mother was the one signing for me when they picked up my stuff in Ohio. They rushed her through signing and initialing 3 pages of tiny print, because they were in a hurry..she had no idea she had just sold her soul to the devil himself, by signing those pages.

I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. I would not use this company, if they ended up being the only one left in the country!! I would carry my stuff on my back from Ohio to Alabama, before I used them, again!! If I could do it all over again, I would do my research. Make sure you are not dealing with a broker. Ignore all those "too good to be true" quotes, because they don't exist!! In the long run you will pay double, maybe more, if you don't use a reputible company!! I found out the hard way, but sure learned my lesson!!

Long-distance move from Chicago, IL to San Francisco, CA

Unprofessional Movers; Overcharged; Uncomfortable Experience.

The guys came into my place looking for percocet and vicodin. I am a consultant not a drug dealer. They then tried to overcharge me for cubic feet utilized but I went and got a measuring tape and I was 100 cubic feet below the estimate provided by Quality Express Van Lines (the broker that overcharged me 2x on my estimate so they could make more money). The driver flicked a pen knife at me and at 2 other residents within the building in the elevator. I over heard them talking about checking out a strip club before they left. I assume the extra money they tried to get from me was for the narcotics they outrageously asked me for and that. I wanted a partial reimbursement from Quality Express Van Lines and S&M Relo and was met with rude customer service and unanswered phone calls. Please steer clear.

Do Not Use This Company.

I'm in the process of filing a claim, but I had a terrible experience with this company. I went through All Pro Moving and they contracted out S & M Relo. All of my furniture was damaged or didn't show up at all (yes, an entire bed frame and desk were delivered in pieces and only some showed up..). Nothing aside from my mattress was wrapped and anything taken apart was left disassembled in my garage (my parents accepted the delivery). I am still fuming thinking about what a waste of money and total scam this company is running. I repeat DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Utah

Moving.

The delivery took a month. Missing tons of boxes, ladders, tons of damage. Website to file claim is not even working. My boxes arrived smashed so matter how well you packed or bubble wrapped can’t survive smashed boxes. The delivery driver even felt bad and agreed it was terrible. Lesson learned for sure. I would give no stars. Don’t use these guys they are terrible and can’t even return calls or communicate.

Long-distance move from Covington, KY to Port Charlotte, FL

Crooks & Scam Artists!

Experienced great customer service with Quality Express Van Lines who never informed us they were a broker. "Kyle" said our moving crew was "his favorite crew" coming to move our family 1,000 miles from Northern KY to Central Florida. Once he had our 30% deposit from an initial $7,000.00 quote, we never heard from him again and to this date, he has never returned multiple phone calls.

A moving company showed up at my house at 6:30 p.m. after confirming an arrival time of noon. Walked through our house, talked to his "boss" who then called me to say the broker "grossly underestimated" our move and it was going to cost us another $2400.00 (1/2 of which had to be paid to the movers at the time of pick-up). Our closing was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. the next day and the "boss", Ryan, knew we were under duress. Our hands were tied! We had already paid over $2,000.00 to the broker that disappeared and now we had two movers on our driveway who wouldn't load anything until we got a contract from S & M emailed to me and I signed it.

Once signed, the crew opened their truck which was already HALF FULL of someone else's belongings "from Utah". Wehad just signed a contract for a 26 foot truck and a half! Ryan said, "the empty truck is on its way" only to call back an hour later to say he couldn't get a truck "until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning". The crew of two loaded what they could in the half emtpy truck, left after midnight and promised to be back with an empty 26 foot truck at 7:30 the next morning. They showed up at 9:00 a.m. knowing we had to be out and clean the house with our closing scheduled at 2:00 p.m.

We did not make the 2:00 p.m. closing. Movers finally left our house at 4:30 p.m. with our belongings. I gave items away, threw items out, to make my belongings fit into this quote that was provided to me. We were asked what was the soonest date they could deliver our items to us at our new home. It was June 27. We received our belongings on July 17. We went 3 weeks sleeping on air mattresses living with only the items we had fit into our cars!

Ryan lied to us mutiple times about when the truck was coming. We were told over and over that our stuff was still in the warehouse in Atlanta. He wouldn't return phone calls. He eventually stopped answering our calls altogether. We resorted to calling from friends' telephone numbers so he couldn't recognize our calls. Then he answered! Don't bother calling the "home office" because they are the left hand of this operation that has no idea what the right hand is doing! Ryan told us he would check with his boss, who, by the way, is Steve Coburn, to try to expedite our move, which would cost another $1600.00. I had not intentions of paying them another dime. We were held hostage by them! Ryan relayed to me that his boss told him to stop answering our calls and we would get our stuff within 30 business days.

When our belongings arrived, we were given items that didn't even belong to us. ALL of our items were jam packed into one 26 foot moving truck (even though we were charged and paid for a truck and a half). MULTIPLE items were broken, some damaged beyond repair. An entertainment center with built in fireplace was completely shattered such that the driver had me walk outside to see it bc it wasn't even worth carrying it, or its pieces, inside. My heirloom piano was missing its wheels which were found in the "Atlanta warehouse". I was told the wheels were being Fed Exed to me the next day..I've never received them. We had too many damaged items to mention here. The movers who came to our new home to unload the truck told me directly, "they treated your stuff like garbage. I've never seen a move like this before". I've filed a claim with their so-called moving claims company but I certainly don't expect anything in return.

This company is a joke. They take advantage of peoples' situations and rob them! They lie from the moment they step on your property. When they do finally deliver your items, they will be trashed, broken and some missing. DO NOT BE SUCKERED INTO THIS SCAM LIKE MY FAMILY WAS!

I'm doing my best to write as many reviews as I can on these two companies to try to save another family the grief and expense that we endured. Even the Ohio Attorney General has been contacted! Good luck to you with your move!
