Long-distance move from Texas to Washington

Moving Service by NMG.

I won't go through all the details of our experience because I see the same comments in many of the one star reviews: low ball to lure you in, take your money, then disappear. In the initial phone call, they misrepresent themselves and do not disclose significant information. Then, the people really moving your house show up and increase the price A LOT (due to nondisclosure of significant issues and clerical errors on their part: booking the incorrect truck/space for your move) and then tell you, sorry, no refunds. I can't even believe that this company is still in business. How is this not fraud? All you one star reviewers - let's band together and see what we can do about this! My understanding (from legal counsel) is that there is a case for people who have experienced this so, class action lawsuit?

Long-distance move from New York to Florida

Better do your homework before choosing National.

National Moving Group is nothing more than a "load broker". ALL the actual moving is done by sub-contractor's that they hire from various locations around the country. In my case, the movers could barely speak english. They pull you in by telling you they are the only mover that prices their work according to actual weight. Nothing could be further from the truth. Once they get your initial deposit (33%), they got you. No refunds. The movers that showed up were courteous enough but they moved so slow. I had 226 pieces to move which consisted mainly of boxes. 95% of which my wife and I had packed. It took our movers 8 1/2 hours to load their small (straight job) truck. They informed us when they were done that they would bring the load to Brooklyn to sit in a warehouse to be combined with similar loads for the trip south. They stated it would take 3-7 days for the load to arrive in Florida. They presented a CAT scale receipt showing they had weighed the truck before loading and another scale reading would be taken to get the actual weight of our goods before the truck was unloaded at their warehouse. The second scale event never took place. In getting their initial "rough estimate" of the weight value of my "load" the phone people at National had "guessed" at the weights of every item. ie. They guessed my sleep number bed weighed 350lbs. Actual weight is 160. HELLO! It's mostly air and plastic panels. They grouped the boxes into 3 sizes, small, medium and large, and gave an imaginary weight to each. Before they were done, they "guessed" our load to be 8800+lbs. Our cost went from an initial "guess-timate" of $2900 to $3500. During the loading at the shipping point (our old home) I had to call National because of the flim flam the movers were doing with their 7 contracts and various forms they were wanting signed. National told them we were shipping by weight. End of story? No way. The 3-7 days shipping period turned out to be closer to 3 weeks. It took 3 calls, days apart, to finally get our goods delivered. When they arrived (at 4:30PM on a Friday evening) a knock came on the door and all we found was a foreign language speaking guy with no truck in sight and an excuse that they could not get the truck (an oversized 53 ft trailer and 30ft tractor) any closer to the house than a block away. If we wanted our stuff we would have to pay them (in cash) another $500 to hike it to the house on 2 wheel hand trucks. Another frantic call to National where I encountered a rather rude individual who had no inclination to help the situation. 2-3 calls back and forth and the best we could do is for the National rep to agree with the very rude truck driver (broken English speaking) and offer to unload for an additional $250, like she was getting us a deal. When we asked for the second scale ticket she almost laughed when she said there would be none. We were being billed at a total of $3500 PLUS the $250 to unload. This has been the biggest scam we ever fell for. Had I used Mayflower or another reputable mover it would have been far less cost with far less aggravation. Finally at !!pm these clowns put the last of our goods in our car port. They did assemble a couple of our tables, replacing the legs with tools I gave them to use as my wife and I reassembled other pieces. I would highly recommend you look elsewhere for HONEST movers. We got the shaft. I hope you won't.

Long-distance move from Virginia to Nebraska

Professionalism and affordability.

When my father observed that our family business would fetch more profits in Montgomery than we ever achieved in Virginia, it was time to move. My job was to search for a good mover and I landed on National Moving Group from my searches online. We contacted them and they promised to do all the work for us. We were living in a two family fully furnished apartment and we worried we may not be able to move everything expediently. The manager at National Moving Group gave us a reassurance and a friendly quote. After smooth preliminary planning, the crew arrived with all the right tools and embarked on the task straight away. There was a lot to be done, but there were no complaints from the crew. They treated all members of my family with respect and by the end of the move - we all expressed gratitude for their professionalism and affordability.

Long-distance move from Florida to Maine

Not there for me.

I had to move a small amount of boxes and furniture from FL to Maine. Jeff at National started out helpful, terrific and attentive until the contract was signed. Then he disappeared. National contracted out the move to another company and when there were issues with that mover on the day of the move, National was no where to be found. Very disappointing. I was unhappy with Ocean Moving, the subcontractor, as well.

Long-distance move from New York to Florida

Unprofessional and rude.

Wow. Let me preface this by saying I submitted a bid request online, which then lead to at least 20 independent moving companies bidding it out within 24 hours. National Moving Group was one such group, and as all the companies did, Thomas McGarry (Ext. 255) emailed and followed up by phone. When we got the bids back, National Moving Group quoted over $2,000 higher than any company before them. When my SO received a second follow up call from Tommy, he asked why it was so high considering this move was for less than 300 cubic feet. Rather than explaining the price points, Tommy went off on a tirade about how we are going to get ripped off and to call him once we get ripped off and immediately hung up. He followed that by texting our phone with "call me when you get ripped off". We've never encountered anyone so unprofessional. The silly thing was we were actually considering them for the move but didn't understand why their prices were so off from nearly 2 dozen other companies. Needless to say we will not be going forward simply because of how unprofessional their representative Thomas McGarry is.

Long-distance move from Texas to New York

Waiting for promised delivery which is late.

I submitted a request online for a quote which was $1900.00. When crew came for pickup the price jumped to $3,000.00. I spoke with my sales person who said he would look into it. Never got a call back. Was told my goods would be delivered on AUG 1, checked with dispatch and was told they would be delivered on the 3rd or 4th of Aug. no call and no goods. Called on the 4th and left message after being on wait for a long time. No call back. I tried calling and now have been on the phone on hold waiting for someone to answer for close to one hour. All I can say is that I am beyond frustrated with this whole moving situation.

Long-distance move from New York to Arizona

They suck.

I moved from New York to Arizona and thinking I was getting a real moving company I called national . I should have left everything I owned in New York because 50 percent of what I owned was either spread out across the US or stolen by the movers or destroyed when my daughter called them on it they lied to her don't for any reason call these idiots.

Long-distance move from Washington DC to California

Scam.

I was charged excessive fees, threatened by the movers if I did not agree to sign revised cost estimates, and mislead about valuation protection.
1. Deposit required before delivery. I was charged a deposit of 40% of the binding estimate upon signing and an additional 30% at pickup. From my understanding this is highly uncommon and is generally only required by scam movers.
2. I was mislead about my options for valuation protection. On the day of the move, the movers required my signature on the valuation addendum. I requested full replacement value protection, but was told that wasn't an option and I had no choice but to select basic valuation.
3. Even though I asked if I should expect any additional fees outside of the original estimate prior to signing with NMG, the movers added additional charges amounting to $375. When I asked what these charges where for and why I wasn't informed of them earlier, the movers threatened to leave unless I signed the revised estimate (knowing I had no other option.
4. Continuous issues with contacting NMG and associated costs of storage. I called NMG repeatedly to provide them with a delivery address and never got a response. As the holidays were approaching, I emailed my broker and asked to arrange for a delivery after the holidays. Still no response. After the holidays, I continued to call NMG and finally got ahold of someone who informed me I would now have to pay additional fees for storage. Not only did I have to go for an extended period of time without my belongings because NMG has no customer service, but now I have to pay for storage? While trying to rectify this situation and arrange delivery NMG never returned my calls, and in the rare occasion someone answered, they would assure me they would immediately call me back yet I would never hear from them. This happened more times than I can count.

Long-distance move from Michigan to Florida

NOT EVEN worth 1 star.

1/29/17 Today was my day to vacate my storage unit which talking to Jeffery (Jeff) at National Moving Group should have been $2000. Their customer service rep. called 2days before to review my inventory check list. Tat day it increased from$2000 to $2600. I had to come up with more money for the deposit. So today the movers get to my storage and mind you I had given the 1st rep (Jeff) the size of my storage unit and also the 2nd rep. the movers tell me that it was 1300lbs. added to what the reps at National estimated. That means it is $600 more the day the showed. I had already had a money order they told me to bring and that would NOT be enough for my move. So I called the number National told me to call if there was any problems and guess what no one responded until 45 minutes later. I had to leave behind half the stuff I had on the Invoice National took from day one. Not to mention I had 4 chairs to my dinette set and they only took 2 chairs really 2 effin chairs. The rep. eventually texted me back really texted me back saying he didn't have services to call me but he was going to call the moving company huh that doesn't make any sense!! Never again will I use this company a complete rip off. All of my items wouldn't even fit on their truck if I was going to pay extra anyway. Super pissed and they guaranteed great services [EDIT]!!

Long-distance move from Florida to Alabama

Move from Florida to Alabama.

We had only a half hearted experience with this company. They were late arriving to pick up the boxes and Golf cart I was shipping and they were late delivering it to our new home. So many things are missing from my shipment that we know they did not deliver all the boxes I packed including my husband handheld toolbox. Every day we find something else missing that I had packed. Frank, the dispatcher, said we would have no problems. Well where is our stuff? We also paid more than I was originally quoted. What is a $725.00 Biding fee?
