Long-distance move from New York, NY to Charleston, SC

Lack of Transparency re: Delivery Time; Lack of Communication.

We contracted with Moving APT at the end of May to move our belongings from New York City, NY to Charleston, SC in preparation for a June 1 relocation. The person that set us up for the move spent a number of calls and emails having us inventory our belongings and during that time also asked us what the earliest acceptance date (or "first available date") was, which we indicated as June 1. On May 28, a different company, Ernest Movers, picked up our belongings.

On June 1, we arrived in Charleston. One June 3, having heard nothing from Moving APT or Ernest Movers, and not having any of our belongings, we called Moving APT, who told us to call back on June 5. On June 5, we called numerous times, and each time, we were told someone would "look into it [the delivery date]" and get back to us, and no one did.

Looking back at the fine print in the transaction materials, we see that for a move of over 700 miles, the delivery date could be from 1 to up to 14 BUSINESS DAYS after the "first available date" -- UP TO THREE WEEKS. I am not sure how anyone could reasonably expect that, much less find it acceptable. Moving APT should have disclosed this to us more clearly (i.e., verbally and in writing) and gotten our explicit acceptance (i.e., verbally and in writing) of the waiting period before we contracted with them. It seems like the company was actually deliberately vague about the delivery time so that we would contract with them.

It is now June 7, and we still have not heard from Moving APT or Ernest Movers about the delivery date. We have paid June rent in our new apartment to sleep on an air mattress and conduct work sitting on cardboard boxes.

I will never use Moving APT again and strongly recommend against them to people I know.

Moving APT is a booking agent. The customer's contract was with Husky Truck Corp. Moving APT advised the customer initially upon booking of their delivery schedule of 2-14 business days and also had the customer initial this to ensure that it was understood. This was not in fine print. We are happy to advise that the customer`s delivery has been completed, within only 6 days, less than half the time agreed upon, just as an additional courtesy to the customer.

Long-distance move from Arizona to Washington

Like others state this is a brokerage company not a moving company.

This business presents themselves as moving company, they are not. They are brokers that hire movers for you. Their estimates are innacurate as they use an outdated system for calculating cubic feet. I measured my own furniture and calculated the size it would take up for them and their call center representative still filed to update our estimate accurately. Once our house was loaded by the movers our quote was updated to be around $4000 more than was originally estimated. The promise on the phone with the company is that this would be payable upon receiving the truck and that paying with credit card was a viable option. Now that the movers are set to arrive tomorrow the conditions have changed. Credit card is no longer a viable option, cash is the only thing that will be accepted. Having half a day to withdraw large amounts of cash during a pandemic is not exactly something that works. After a broker dodging calls and trying to only communicate through text finally spoke to us on the phone, he was extremely rude, unprofessional, and someone who should not have a customer facing job whatsoever. At a certain point of arguing with this child of a man there was no other option but to hang up on him as he was ovlbciously irrational and had no intention of helping. At this point our stuff is more or less held hostage until we are able to provide a large amount of cash like this is some sort of hostage situation .

Moving APT is truly sorry to hear about any issue experienced in your move; however, we do not have any customer by this name in our files. Please confirm that Moving APT was who assisted you in finding you a carrier for your move, and if so, please provide an order number that we may look you up by in order to better assist you. You may also send it to us at cs@movingservicesteam.com.

Long-distance move from Kingston, NY to Joshua Tree, CA

The worst company ever.

This is the WORST company I have ever dealt with in my life. RUN, RUN, RUN away!  I hired them to move my stuff from NY to CA and due to Coronavirus I could not be there to oversee everything.  First they gave me one quote, then a second quote when we adjusted the number of things we had and then they pressured me to overestimate what I had, which raised the quote by A LOT.  When I expressed concern about this they said not to worry, once they had the exact list after moving day they would give me a breakdown of everything and that the total would go down based on the actual box/item count.  The day of the move, NO ONE came or called.  Because I wasn't able to be there I was paying someone to meet the movers and they sat there waiting for 8 hours.  So I was out that money and had to pay someone for a second day.  When I could finally reach someone at Moving APT they told me the truck broke down and they rescheduled for the next day.  The next day the movers arrived, 2 hours late.  The movers that showed up were called Gross Country Movers.  They packed my stuff and the person I had waiting there sent me a list of the things moved.  I called Moving APT every day for a week trying to get a breakdown of the actual cost.  NO ONE called me back.  I got their answering service each time I called. I asked to speak to a manager, still nothing.  So Moving APT has basically disappeared on me and I'm dealing with Gross Country Movers.

I was also promised my stuff would be delivered within 21 days, they said that the 21 days was by law.  Now it's been 30 days and still no stuff.  I've been told "by the end of the week" a few times now and yesterday I was told by Gross Country that my stuff is in transit but they couldn't reach the driver on a Sunday and today I was told the truck is broken.. which is the second time they've given that excuse.  Will my stuff ever arrive?  I highly doubt it, which is heartbreaking.   My wedding album is in there, my kids' baby keepsakes, old photos and journals.. not to mention all the other stuff that has monetary value.   I will update this review if they actually deliver my things, if they give me the actual cost breakdown and if they give me the discount they've promised.  But don't hold your breath.

Official company response

Please be advised that Moving APT is a booking agent. We were not the customer's movers. That said, we are always here to assist and mediate whenever necessary. We do apologize that the customer experienced a delay with their movers, and despite their movers being responsible, we have offered to compensate the customer ourselves as a courtesy.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Los Angeles, CA

Lost, damaged and dispected

We contracted Moving APT to move from NYC to CA. Our belongings were picked up on August 28th by Starway Relocation LLC. I initially dealt with Ian Kerr and Collena so after several weeks, I tried to contact them for an update. They did not respond to any emails or calls. I called the customer service number on the Moving APT website multiple times with no response. The receptionists that I spoke to said they would have some reach back to me.No one contacted me.I called Ian multiple times and left my name, phone number and job number. Then, I tried calling Ian from a new number. I left a vague message that implied I was a new customer. Ian called my new number back that same day! This is extremely frustrating that Ian Kerr would not return my calls when I was an existing customer, but he would be happy to call back a new customer. Ian told me that the moving apt computer system had been hacked and he was having a hard time finding my information. He said he would have Collena get back to me.No one contacted me.The next afternoon I called the customer service number again and demanded to speak with a supervisor. They put me in touch with Mike again. Mike gave me his word that I would be moved to the top of the priority list and that he would contact me on Monday with an update. He told me to contact the manager, Lily, so that I could discuss some form of refund for this unprofessional customer service. As of 5pm Monday evening, Mike did not contact me. I also called the customer service number again with no response. It's only when I submitted a request on your website as a new customer, did someone call me back.Mike told me the same excuse that the system was down all week and that he would try to locate my belongings now. He explained that Starway had gone out of business and you are trying to find a replacement. When I spoke with Collena, she told me that Starway had NOT gone out of business and that they would be handling our move. Mike texted my girlfriend the following morning to say that Starway was DEFINITELY out of business and that no one was assigned to our move. When I spoke to the manager Lily, she said that Starway was still in business, but there was still no one assigned to our move. This was 6 weeks after our things had been taken. Lily said we would address compensation for the delay and poor customer service only after our items have been delivered. Our items were finally delivered on October 28th by Presto Logistics. We were shocked to see that nearly half our items were missing and every single box was damaged or destroyed. We had a wardrobe box with delicate items that was completely smashed in and had two large boxes placed inside of it. Total disrespect of our belongings. Most importantly, we lost a box marked fragile with family photos and diplomas that is IRREPLACEABLE. Among the other missing items were multiple boxes, suitcases, fitness equipment and our 55inch TV.When we contacted Presto Logistics, they said to contact Starway. I have been unable to make any contact with Starway since our pick up and I have no idea if they are even actually still in business. When I contacted Lily at Moving Apt, she just told me to submit a claim through Moving Claims. This company has 120 days to even respond to my claim. No one has said that they will make any effort to locate my missing belongings. Moving APT has made zero apology for the delay and unprofessional behavior of it's staff.

Would not recommend

There was a lack of transparency about what this company actually does -- they are a broker, and not actually a moving company. They also have little to no relationship with the companies that they hire for these jobs.

The employees that you talk to and work with regarding your move seem friendly and helpful at the beginning, but when their part of the 'job' is done, they are impossible to contact for help - and trust me, you will be needing help.

They also did not update the actual moving company with an updated inventory that I provided when I realized that I did not need to take as much stuff. When the moving company came, they had the wrong list, and despite calling someone from APT on site with the moving company, they never received the updated inventory.

On the day of your move, you start receiving calls from multiple different people from different departments asking a bunch of questions, while you are trying to deal with the movers that are in your house. I would say at least 5 different people called me in a 3 hour window of time. Because of this, I never knew who to call back with any problems or questions.

Overall I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Official company response

Moving APT is a booking agent. This is explained at the top of the very first page of the customer's agreement in large, bold letters, which the customer was asked to read, acknowledge, and sign prior to us being able to book their reservation. This is done to confirm that customers understand this and is in no way hidden. The customer's updated inventory was sent to their carrier prior to their move, which their carrier has confirmed that they did receive and was an error on their part. Nonetheless, we have been trying to reach the customer for almost a month in order to assist them, but the customer has been unresponsive. The customer may get back to us at cs@movingservicesteam.com at their earliest convenience, and we would be happy to address and take care of any inconvenience they feel they have experienced. Thank you.

The worst moving company

Before you read my story, let me tell you that just like everyone else’s I read all good reviews and gave this company a try until they tried to pull a fast on me. I will tell you my story and you be the judge and I just hope you don’t go through the hell that company put me through. I booked my moving on March from Va to Ca a two bedroom worth of tuff without any furniture or anything else. The estimator Thomas aka Tom, promised to me that if I had paid the deposit and he could lock the price 1750 and I paid a deposit of $630 after which he asked me to gave a review about his service. I got my confirmation for moving date between June8-10 being very flexible with this company. He indicated to me they have their own moving trucks and it should be no problem and “no one is gonna pull a fast” on me. Just three days ago the quality assurance called to confirm my household stuff without much change and I even had lesser stuff and the rep told me that I am all set for the pick up date between June 8-10. Today June 3rd I got a call from moving supervisor , Tarik, demanding $550 or else my stuff will not be moved. Not only was he threatening but very aggressive guy without Allowing me to say even a word. He tried every possible excuse to pull on me despite me telling him that the contract I signed confirms the price, date of pick up and going through quality assurance. He blatantly refused to accept everything I indicated to him including my deposit, being assured by the estimator and quality assurance. He threatened me that he will end the end call and cancel this transaction and that is what exactly happened. Turns out I tried calling the estimator direct line Thomas why he lied to me and made several calls,he didn’t answer either my message or call. I tried calling the company the whole day they would not transfer to customer service supervisor. Now my stuff is awaiting in boxes and have given my notice to vacate my apartment with no where but to put everything from my home at garbage or give it away. This is how reckless and careless these people can be without any accountability. Also forgot to mention the reason you see so many good reviews on their site is because once you confirm a transaction they ask you to give them a review and they there is no way going back to change it. This is not a moving company and they are bunch liers into scamming people.

They were very efficient with my move! They gave me a courtesy call and showed up right on time. They both moved all my boxes and furniture very quickly with no issues at all! They put everything back to together perfectly for me. I would recommend Moving APT to anyone that wants a stress free moving day.

Do do Not Move With Moving Apt** You Will End up Paying Double to Hav.

We decided to use Moving APT over some of the other movers because of their tactic of pretty much bashing the other moving companies that were competing for the job. The top competition was Flat rate out of NY and I really wished I would have chosen them Moving APT Rep Shawn emailed me some of the complaints and bad reviews posted on line about Flat rate and my husband and I went with APT after Shawn explained to us how the other companies would quote much less then up charge us and hold our stuff until we paid. Well, guess what APT Moving is trying to do.. I now know that I should have known better and done my homework. Any company that is willing to tarnish another company’s reputation to that extreme is nothing but a rip of f themselves. We prepaid the move thinking that’s one bill out of the way BUT After everything was loaded and the movers left I got a call from the driver telling me that They are now up charging us $4500 for  extra “ Capacity” – WHEN WE HAVE NOT ADDED ONE ITEM TO THE LIST and "extra packing supplies." WHEN THE ORIGINAL QUOTE WAS FOR FULL PACKING. Obviously, there is no way to prove either one of those claims, or they told us they would not deliver our stuff until we paid. Since we were not prepared and did not have the cash money available we had to stay in a hotel for 2 weeks until we were able to come up with the money. They refused to accept any other type of payment but CASH. I notified the company that I do have cash on hand and they said that a truck would be leaving the next day and the delivery would be 2 days later. When the date of the delivery arrived no one contacted us I called and was told that the truck broke down and it will be another 2- 3 WEEKS. We felt as though we had no control and that they were actually doing this on purpose. They refused to get a manager or the owner on the phone and we had no money to seek legal help the people on the phone were careless rude obnoxious, unprofessional On the delivery date the driver showed up ALNOE my husband and I had to help unload all our items off the truck. We were shocked that many of the items were not on the truck. Our big screen was packed in its ORIGINAL BOX and that arrived EMPTY all electronics were gone. $4000 Temparpedic mattress gone, the other two mattress were so badly soiled we had to trash them as well ,Missing 15 Boxes and the other boxes were wet and contents damaged  . Furniture b roken. Later when we unpacked these boxes our clothes and were badly damaged full of Rat droppings and Mildew not much could be salvaged Although we purchased insurance and we filed a claim with Moving APT THEY ARE CLAIMMING THAT THEY ARE NOW ONLY A BROKER AND CAN NOT HELP US – they sold our job to a moving company that is no longer in business – I later found out that the movers they sold our job to were NEVER LICENSED In all they lost/ruined over $50,000 worth of belongings, some family heirlooms. Horrible horrible  company, experience. My Husband and I are now seeking legal options BUT WHAT EVER YOU DO DO NOT MOVE WITH MOVING APT** YOU WILL END UP PAYING DOUBLE TO HAVE EVERYTHING YOU OWN DESTROYED They are a scamming BROKER They should be shut down.
